SUMMARY: The anatomical structure of wood from tree species found in floodplain forests can undergo alterations due to seasonal fluctuations in water levels, potentially affecting the volume of wood available for sustainable forest management in inundated areas. Thus, this study aims to characterize the anatomical features of Hura crepitans, Ocotea cymbarum and Eschweilera albiflora, assessing whether these characteristics differ from descriptions reported in previous studies of the same species conducted in other environments. Samples were collected from six adult trees of each species in two sustainable development reserves (SDR), Mamirauá and Amanã, located in the middle Solimões region, state of Amazonas, using a non-destructive method with an increment borer. Two samples were collected from three different heights (0.30, 1.30, and 2.30 m). Microscopic descriptions of the species were determined (porosity, axial parenchyma, rays, fibers, and vessel elements). Two-way factorial ANOVA followed by Tukey’s post hoc test was used to verify the differences in the anatomical elements of the wood samples collected at the three heights. The wood of H. crepitans has diffuse porosity, a predominance of solitary vessels, diffuse-in-aggregates, scarce axial parenchyma, non-storied rays, and libriform fibers. The wood of O. cymbarum has solitary vessels in radial multiples, vasicentric axial parenchyma, non-storied rays, and septate fibers. E. albiflora has a radial grouping of vessels, banded parenchyma, and non-storied rays. This study confirms previous descriptions of this species, revealing that its anatomical characteristics remain constant throughout the trunk.

RESUMEN: La estructura anatómica de la madera de las especies de árboles que se encuentran en los bosques de llanuras aluviales puede sufrir alteraciones debido a las fluctuaciones estacionales en los niveles de agua, afectando potencialmente el volumen de madera disponible para el manejo forestal sostenible de las áreas inundadas. Así, este estudio tiene como objetivo caracterizar las características anatómicas de Hura crepitans, Ocotea cymbarum y Eschweilera albiflora, evaluando si estas características difieren de las descripciones reportadas en estudios previos de las mismas especies realizados en otros ambientes. Se recolectaron muestras de seis árboles adultos de cada especie en dos reservas de desarrollo sustentable (RDS), Mamirauá y Amanã, ubicadas en la región media de Solimões, estado de Amazonas, utilizando un método no destructivo con barrenador incremental. Se tomaron dos muestras en cada una de tres alturas diferentes (0,30, 1,30 y 2,30 m). Se determinaron descripciones microscópicas de las especies (porosidad, parénquima axial, radios, fibras y elementos de los vasos). Se utilizó ANOVA factorial de dos vías seguido de la prueba post hoc de Tukey para verificar las diferencias en los elementos anatómicos de las muestras de madera recolectadas en las tres alturas. La madera de H. crepitans tiene porosidad difusa, predominio de vasos solitarios, difusos en agregados y escaso parénquima axial, radios no estratificados y fibras libriformes. Resumo Tendo vigorado entre 2017 e 2022, o Teto de Gastos marcou um importante período da política fiscal brasileira e gerou uma série de debates acerca de seus efeitos sobre variáveis macroeconômicas. Abstract The Expenditure Ceiling, effective from 2017 to 2022, marked a significant period in Brazilian fiscal policy and triggered numerous debates regarding its impact on macroeconomic variables. This article employs the synthetic control method and utilizes annual data from the World Bank and IMF to assess its influence on the central bank policy rate (Selic) from 2017 to 2021 and the real rate of public investment between 2017 and 2019. The findings indicate that the implementation of the expenditure ceiling aligned with a decrease in the Selic rate, consistent with previous research on long-term and neutral interest rates. However, analyzing public investment proves challenging due to the substantial reduction in government investments resulting from the 2015-2016 recession. Os dados de 2014 e 2022 mostram uma mudança nos investimentos da territorialização do extrativismo agrícola para a territorialização do extrativismo energético com a produção de energia eólica e solar, gerando um novo regime de estrangeirização de terras. Analisamos esses dados e dois estudos de caso para compreender as disputas territoriais e as mudanças nas territorialidades: um caso no estado do Ceará, onde duas comunidades impediram o processo de desterritorialização e outro no Rio Grande do Norte, onde a comunidade sofre os impactos de um parque eólico resultante do investimento de fundos e empresas multinacionais.

Abstract Since 2014, we have investigated land grabbing in Brazil in the Data Bank of Struggles for Spaces and Territories (DATALUTA). The data from 2014 and 2022 show a change in investments from the territorialization of agricultural extractivism to the territorialization of energy extractivism with the production of wind and solar energy, generating a new land grabbing regime. We analyze these data and two case studies to understand territorial disputes and changes in territorialities: a case in the state of Ceará, where two communities prevented the deterritorialization process and another in Rio Grande do Norte, where the community suffers the impacts of a wind farm resulting from the investment of funds and multinational companies.

Resumen Desde 2014, investigamos el acaparamiento de tierras en Brasil, en el Banco de Datos de Luchas por Espacios y Territorios (DATALUTA). Los datos de 2014 y 2022 evidencian un cambio en las inversiones de la territorialización del extractivismo agrícola para la territorialización del extractivismo energético, con la producción de energía eólica y solar, generando un nuevo régimen de acaparamiento. RESUMO Este estudo teve como objetivo construir e validar o Modelo Lógico (ML) da prescrição farmacêutica no Brasil. Caracteriza-se como um estudo de avaliabilidade, com utilização de técnicas quantiqualitativas. Para a construção da primeira versão do ML, utilizaram-se informações disponibilizadas em documentos oficiais, literatura científica e informantes-chave. Para validação, empregou-se a técnica de Delphi, com 19 especialistas que analisaram a pertinência e a relevância dos itens propostos, no período entre março e outubro de 2022. O ML apresentou, ao final, oito itens do elemento estrutura, 13 itens do elemento atividades, oito itens do elemento resultados intermediários e quatro itens do elemento impacto. Da versão original à final, houve relativamente poucas modificações realizadas a partir da contribuição dos especialistas, resultado dos altos níveis de consenso alcançados nas análises de pertinência e relevância. O ML validado apresenta plausibilidade de execução nas relações estabelecidas entre os elementos de atividades e de resultados, identificação da essencialidade no campo da estrutura e vislumbre dos resultados de sua execução em longo prazo, que incluem a promoção do uso racional de medicamentos, a expansão da atividade do farmacêutico no cuidado à saúde, melhoria da qualidade de vida do paciente e racionalização de custos ao Sistema Único de Saúde.

ABSTRACT This study aimed to build and validate the Logical Model (LM) of pharmacist prescribing in Brazil. It is characterized as an evaluability study, using quantitative and qualitative techniques. To construct the first version of the LM, information made available by official documents, scientific literature and key informants was used. For validation, the Delphi technique was used, with 19 experts who analyzed the pertinence and relevance of the proposed items, in the period between March and October 2022. The LM presented, in the end, eight items from the structure element, 13 items from the activities element, eight items from the intermediate results element and four items from the impact element. From the original to the final version, there were relatively few modifications made based on the contributions of experts, a result of the high levels of consensus achieved in the pertinence and relevance analyses. The validated LM presents plausibility of execution in the relationships established between the elements of activities and results, identification of the essentiality in the field of structure and a glimpse of the results of its long-term execution, which include the promotion of the rational use of medicines, the expansion of the pharmacist’s activity in health care, improving the patient’s quality of life and rationalizing costs for the Unified Health System.

RESUMO Modelos de formação de atletas primam pela ampliação de experiências esportivas, incluindo os eventos esportivos. Assume-se que a variabilidade de propostas incute na vivência de situações paradoxais, importantes na permanência no esporte e/ou vida ativa. Este trabalho discute a percepção da experiência vivida em dois eventos de ginástica para todos com distintos vieses: um com caráter competitivo e outro com caráter demonstrativo. Protagonizaram o estudo 29 crianças participantes de um projeto de extensão universitária. Para a coleta de dados, realizaram-se 8 Grupos Focais, sendo utilizada a Análise Temática. Diários de campo e texto reflexivo do mediador dos GF foram considerados para a triangulação dos dados. ABSTRACT Models for athlete development have prioritized sports experiences, including events. It is assumed that the variety of events instills in the experience of paradoxical situations, important in the permanence in sport and/or active life. This article discusses the lived experience perception by children in two gymnastics for all events with different biases: one competitive and the other demonstrative. Based on qualitative research, 29 children were interviewed using Focus Groups (n=8), and data analysis using Thematic Analysis. Furthermore, field notes by 4 coaches and reflective narrative from the Focus Group interviewer were considered for triangulation. Two themes were highlighted: a. intersubjective aspects and b. interrelationships. These themes were addressed in both events to a greater or lesser extent. In item a, commitment, aesthetic components, and anxiety were in both events, but overcoming and nervousness more prominent in the competition. Abstract The current investigation aimed to explore the effects of Myrciaria dubia liquid extract (MDLE) as the primary component of an extender for breeder rooster semen over different periods at room temperature. Fifteen breeder roosters (40 weeks of age, average body weight of 2.05±0.12) with confirmed fertility were used. Employing a factorial design (3x4), the treatments consisted of semen in natura and two semen extenders (an experimental based on MDLE and a commercial) subjected to four periods at room temperature post-collection (5, 10, 15 and 20 minutes) with four replicates (tubes) each. All variables evaluated in this study yielding significant results (p<0.05). Analyzed individually, the experimental extender based on MDLE exhibited a linear reduction (p<0.05) in motility and vigor results, while it caused an increase in pH values and percentages of sperm defects evaluated. When compared with semen in natura and commercial extender, the efficiency of MDLE as a semen extender was inferior to that observed with the commercial extender and similar to the results observed with semen in natura. Nonetheless, the experimental extender based on MDLE yielded satisfactory results for up to 15 minutes of storage time. In conclusion, MDLE can be considered as an alternative for composing a roosters’ semen extender, maintaining sperm characteristics within acceptable limits for up to 15 minutes at room temperature. Abstract Background Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is a prevalent tumor with high mortality rates. Computed tomography (CT) is crucial in the non-invasive diagnosis of HCC. Recent advancements in artificial intelligence (AI) have shown significant potential in medical imaging analysis. However, developing these AI algorithms is hindered by the scarcity of comprehensive, publicly available liver imaging datasets. Objectives This study aims to detail the tools, data organization, and database structuring used in creating HepatIA, a medical imaging annotation platform and database at a Brazilian tertiary teaching hospital. HepatIA supports liver disease AI research at the institution. Material and methods The authors collected baseline characteristics and CT scans of 656 patients from 2008 to 2021. The database, designed using PostgreSQL and implemented with Django and Vue.js, includes 692 CT volumes from a four-phase abdominal CT protocol. Radiologists made segmentation annotations using the OHIF medical image viewer, incorporating MONAI Label for pre-annotation segmentation models. The annotation process included detailed descriptions of liver morphology and nodule characteristics. Abstract Several countries and non-governmental organizations have discussed the use of animals in industry and biomedical areas. This work shows the progression of animal’ rights for scientific purposes in Brazil and how Brazilian Councils have advanced to follow worldwide regulations. Since the first rules about animals’ usage in Ireland in 1635, the British Cruelty to Animals Act in 1876, and the Brazilian animal protection rules in 1924 and 1934, most worldwide actions culminated in the Universal Declaration of Animal Rights (1978). In 1979, the Brazilian Law 6.638 displayed directives for didactic-scientific practice of vivisection. In 2008, the Arouca Law 11.794 filled regulatory gaps and created the National Council for the Control of Animal Experimentation (CONCEA). In 2014, the CONCEA incorporated the 3R’s philosophy and recognized substitute techniques, but only in 2023 it prohibited vertebrate animals in scientific research, development and control of personal hygiene products, cosmetics and perfumes. ■ RESUMO Introdução: A reconstrução mamária pós-tratamento cirúrgico do câncer de mama (um dos principais cânceres que acometem as mulheres) tem sido progressivamente mais indicada, haja vista o benefício da recuperação psicológica e da qualidade de vida, seja utilizando implantes e/ou tecidos autólogos. O presente trabalho visa demonstrar a experiência da equipe, discutir técnicas operatórias e complicações em relação aos dados da literatura mundial, além de verificar a aplicabilidade da técnica na prática clínica da equipe. Método: Estudo observacional retrospectivo desenvolvido em hospital universitário em Juiz de Fora a partir da revisão de prontuários de pacientes submetidas a mastectomia com reconstrução mamária entre 2010 e 2020. ■ ABSTRACT Introduction: Breast reconstruction after surgical treatment for breast cancer (one of the main cancers that affect women) has been progressively more recommended, given the benefits of psychological recovery and quality of life, whether using implants and/or autologous tissues. The present work aims to demonstrate the team’s experience, and discuss operative techniques and complications concerning data from the world literature, in addition to verifying the applicability of the technique in the team’s clinical practice. Method: Retrospective observational study developed at a university hospital in Juiz de Fora based on a review of medical records of patients who underwent mastectomy with breast reconstruction between 2010 and 2020. Results: Of the 860 breasts treated, 84% underwent immediate oncological surgery and 16% were late; the main access to the breast tissue was the Stewart incision, followed by extended inframammary, periareolar, and inverted T incisions; regarding reconstructive techniques, 35% of cases used a latissimus dorsi muscle flap, 25% used a prepectoral prosthesis, 20% used a transverse rectus abdominis myocutaneous flap and 10% used a local muscle flap. The most common complications were surgical site dehiscence, followed by skin necrosis, seroma, surgical site infection, and hematoma, in addition to other less common complications such as chronic pain and prosthesis rupture after mammography. Abstract Effector proteins in Phakopsora pachyrhizi (Pp), the causative agent of Asian Soybean rust, are involved in the infection process. A previous study identified a rust effector Egh16-like family based expression profile during the interaction with soybean. Herein, we scrutinized available the Pp genomes to validate the predicted Egh16-like family of Pp and identify new family members. We described 22 members of the Egh16-like gene family in the Pp MT2006 genome and 18 in the UFV02 and K8108 genomes, highlighting a family expansion. Family members have a small signal peptide, conserved cysteine-rich R/Y/FxC motifs in the C-terminal region, and a virulence-related Egh16-like domain and were able to suppress PTI related responses in Benthamiana. ABSTRACT This study was conducted to evaluate the relationship among digestibility, residual feed intake (RFI), and enteric methane emission in growing Nellore cattle (Bos indicus) divergently classified based on RFI phenotype and breeding value (EBV-RFI). Animals (n = 122) subjected to performance testing (forage:concentrate ratio of 60:40) in two test groups were classified based on RFI. A sample of 80 animals classified as low (−0.748±0.076 kg DM/day) or high (0.775±0.075 kg DM/day) RFI was evaluated regarding feed compounds digestibility, fecal excretion, and methane emission (CH4, g/day). Statistical mixed models included fixed effects of RFI (or EBV-RFI), linear effect of initial age as covariate, and the random effects of the test group. There was no difference in the digestibility of feed compounds between the most and least efficient animals. However, dry matter intake (DMI; 6.92 vs. 8.66 kg DM/day) and feed conversion (7.93 vs. 9.42 kg/kg) were lesser in low RFI animals. On average, low RFI animals emitted 14.3 g less CH4 per day (174 vs. 188 g CH4/day); however, CH4 emission expressed as g/kg DMI (23.1 vs. 20.1) and the percentage of gross energy intake lost as CH4 (8.13 vs. 7.08%) were greater for these animals. These results showed the benefits of using more feed efficient animals in the beef production chain, i.e., animals that exhibit lower feed intake, lower fecal excretion, and lower enteric methane emission without differences in weight gain or body weight. However, the variations in feed efficiency among them cannot be explained by differences in dry matter or feed compounds digestibility. RESUMO Este estudo teve como objetivo construir e validar o Modelo Lógico (ML) da prescrição farmacêutica no Brasil. Caracteriza-se como um estudo de avaliabilidade, com utilização de técnicas quantiqualitativas. Para a construção da primeira versão do ML, utilizaram-se informações disponibilizadas em documentos oficiais, literatura científica e informantes-chave. Para validação, empregou-se a técnica de Delphi, com 19 especialistas que analisaram a pertinência e a relevância dos itens propostos, no período entre março e outubro de 2022. O ML apresentou, ao final, oito itens do elemento estrutura, 13 itens do elemento atividades, oito itens do elemento resultados intermediários e quatro itens do elemento impacto. Da versão original à final, houve relativamente poucas modificações realizadas a partir da contribuição dos especialistas, resultado dos altos níveis de consenso alcançados nas análises de pertinência e relevância. ABSTRACT This study aimed to build and validate the Logical Model (LM) of pharmacist prescribing in Brazil. It is characterized as an evaluability study, using quantitative and qualitative techniques. To construct the first version of the LM, information made available by official documents, scientific literature and key informants was used. For validation, the Delphi technique was used, with 19 experts who analyzed the pertinence and relevance of the proposed items, in the period between March and October 2022. The LM presented, in the end, eight items from the structure element, 13 items from the activities element, eight items from the intermediate results element and four items from the impact element. From the original to the final version, there were relatively few modifications made based on the contributions of experts, a result of the high levels of consensus achieved in the pertinence and relevance analyses. The validated LM presents plausibility of execution in the relationships established between the elements of activities and results, identification of the essentiality in the field of structure and a glimpse of the results of its long-term execution, which include the promotion of the rational use of medicines, the expansion of the pharmacist’s activity in health care, improving the patient’s quality of life and rationalizing costs for the Unified Health System. RESUMO Objetivo Analisar a frequência do consumo de desjejum e sua associação com a adiposidade corporal em estudantes universitários. Métodos Estudo transversal com dados da linha de base de uma coorte de 2.179 estudantes com idade de 16 a 25 anos, matriculados em 21 cursos de período integral, coletados entre 2015 e 2018. Os desfechos avaliados foram excesso de peso, obesidade, circunferência da cintura elevada e relação cintura/altura elevada. A frequência de consumo do desjejum foi avaliada em: regular (5-7 vezes/semana); irregular (1-4 vezes/semana) e omissão (nunca/quase nunca). As associações foram estimadas por modelos de regressão de Poisson com variância robusta. Resultados As prevalências de omissão e consumo irregular de desjejum foram, respectivamente, 14,5% e 23,6% para homens e 14,6% e 24,7% para mulheres. No sexo masculino a omissão do desjejum associou-se diretamente à obesidade (RPa=1,74; IC95%=1,05;2,88), à circunferência da cintura elevada (RPa=2,10; IC95%=1,31;3,35) e relação cintura/altura elevada (RPa =1,59; IC95%=1,13;2,23). Entre as mulheres, a omissão do desjejum associou-se à relação cintura/altura elevada (RPa=1,51; IC95%=1,03;2,20). O consumo irregular do desjejum foi associado apenas à obesidade em mulheres e não foi associado a nenhum dos desfechos avaliados entre os homens. Conclusão A omissão do desjejum associou-se à adiposidade abdominal em ambos os sexos e também à adiposidade total entre os homens. O consumo irregular do desjejum foi associado apenas à obesidade entre as mulheres. ABSTRACT Objective To analyze the frequency of breakfast consumption and its association with body adiposity in university students. Methods Cross-sectional study using baseline data from a cohort of 2,179 students aged 16 to 25, enrolled in 21 full-time courses, collected between 2015 and 2018. The outcomes assessed were overweight, obesity, high waist circumference and high waist-to-height ratio. The frequency of breakfast consumption was assessed as: regular (5-7 times/week); irregular (1-4 times/week) and omission (never/almost never). Associations were estimated using Poisson regression models with robust variance. Results The prevalence of skipping breakfast and irregular breakfast consumption were, respectively, 14.5% and 23.6% for men and 14.6% and 24.7% for women. In males, skipping breakfast was directly associated with obesity (aPR=1,74; CI95%=1,05;2,88), high waist circumference (aPR=2,10; CI95%=1,31;3,35), and high waist/height ratio (aPR =1,59; CI95%=1,13;2,23). Among women, higher prevalence of obesity (aPR= 1.90, 95%CI= 1.16;3.12) was found among those who had breakfast irregularly, and skipping breakfast was associated with high waist/height ratio (aPR=1,51; CI95%=1,03;2,20). Irregular breakfast consumption was only associated with obesity in women and was not associated with any of the outcomes assessed among men. Conclusion Skipping breakfast was associated with abdominal adiposity in both sexes, and also with total adiposity among men. Irregular breakfast consumption was associated only with obesity in women. Regular breakfast consumption should be included among the objectives of actions to promote healthy eating habits at universities.
