Photoluminescent and Magnetic Properties of Mononuclear Lanthanide-Based Compounds Containing the Zwitterionic Form of 4-Picolinic Acid as a Ligand LanthanideBased Lanthanide Based 4Picolinic Picolinic 4

A series of mononuclear lanthanide-based coordination compounds was obtained under mild synthetic conditions and fully characterized. Single-crystal X-ray diffraction reveals six isomorphic compounds of type [Ln(NO3)(4picH)2(H2O)4](NO3)2(Ln3+ = Sm (1), Eu (2), Gd (3), Tb (4), Dy (5), Er (6)), in which 4picH is the zwitterionic form of the 4-picolinic acid. Except for compounds 3and 6, a study into the emissive properties of the compounds was carried out, revealing a ligand-sensitized lanthanide-characteristic luminescence. Compounds 2 and 4are candidates for luminescent probes in solution. At the same time, the chromaticity data for 5 revealed a potential white-light emitter with a correlated color temperature (CCT) value of 6570 K. ABSTRACT The limited temporal completeness and taxonomic accuracy of species lists, made available in a traditional manner in scientific publications, has always represented a problem. These lists are invariably limited to a few taxonomic groups and do not represent up-to-date knowledge of all species and classifications. In this context, the Brazilian megadiverse fauna is no exception, and the Catálogo Taxonômico da Fauna do Brasil (CTFB) (http://fauna.jbrj.gov.br/), made public in 2015, represents a database on biodiversity anchored on a list of valid and expertly recognized scientific names of animals in Brazil. The CTFB is updated in near real time by a team of more than 800 specialists. By January 1, 2024, the CTFB compiled 133,691 nominal species, with 125,138 that were considered valid. Most of the valid species were arthropods (82.3%, with more than 102,000 species) and chordates (7.69%, with over 11,000 species). These taxa were followed by a cluster composed of Mollusca (3,567 species), Platyhelminthes (2,292 species), Annelida (1,833 species), and Nematoda (1,447 species). All remaining groups had less than 1,000 species reported in Brazil, with Cnidaria (831 species), Porifera (628 species), Rotifera (606 species), and Bryozoa (520 species) representing those with more than 500 species. Abstract Objectives Considering the fact that resin infiltrants lack antibacterial activity, this study assessed the influence of the quaternary ammonium monomer dimethylaminohexadecyl methacrylate (DMAHDM) and amorphous calcium phosphate nanoparticles (NACP) on the physical and antibacterial properties of an experimental resin infiltrant (ERI). Methodology The following groups were established: ERI (75/25 wt.% TEGDMA/BISEMA), ERI + 2.5% DMAHDM (2.5DM), ERI + 5% DMAHDM (5DM), ERI + 2% NACP (NACP), ERI + 2.5% DMAHDM + 2% NACP (2.5DM_NACP), ERI + 5% DMAHDM + 2% NACP (5DM_NACP), and Icon® (IC), a commercial resin infiltrant. Degree of conversion (DC; n=4), sorption and solubility (SO/SOL; n=8), and contact angle (CA; n=10) tests were conducted. Biofilm biomass (BB; n=6) and bacterial metabolism (BM; n=8) were evaluated after Streptococcus mutans (UA159) cultivation for 48 h on material samples. Data were evaluated by one-way ANOVA and Tukey or Games-Howell post hoc tests (α=0.05). Results IC exhibited the highest DC, with no difference from 2.5DM and 5DM. IC showed the lowest CA. IC had the lowest SO, followed by ERI, which had the lowest SOL, with no difference from IC. 5DM_NACP showed the lowest biofilm biomass, similar to 2.5DM and 5DM. Resin infiltrants containing DMAHDM showed reduced bacterial metabolism. Conclusions DMAHDM, with or without NACP, demonstrated significant antibacterial activity, while NACP impaired DC. Resumo O objetivo desse estudo foi avaliar o efeito da incorporação de partículas de Bário e Itérbio nas propriedades físicas de infiltrantes resinosos. Os grupos foram divididos de acordo com a adição de Itérbio puro (30 ou 40%) ou Itérbio com Bário (15/15% ou 20/20% respectivamente) no infiltrante comercial Icon e no Infiltrante experimental base. Foram realizados os testes de: radiografia digital (n=5), microradiografia Transversa (n=5), microtomografia (n=3), grau de conversão (n=5), sorção (n=16), solubilidade (n=16), ângulo de contato (n=16), resistência flexural (n=16), modulo de elasticidade (n=16) e Espectroscopia por energia dispersiva (n=10). As análises foram realizadas utilizando o programa R, com nível de significância de 5%, e os testes de microradiografia e microtomografia foram analisados qualitativamente. Nos grupos com 30 ou 40% de Itérbio, a radiopacidade foi maior ou igual ao esmalte dentário. Na microradiografia e microtomografia parece ter maior radiopacidade nos grupos com 40% de itérbio. Dentre os grupos sem adição de partículas, os do infiltrante experimental apresentaram maior grau de conversão do que os do Icon e o grupo controle experimental e com 40% de itérbio apresentaram os melhores resultados. Na maioria dos grupos, a solubilidade foi abaixo dos níveis recomendados pela ISO. A adição de particulas resultou em maior viscosidade. Os grupos com Icon apresentaram maior resistência flexural e modulo de elasticidade do que os grupos com infiltrante experimental e a quantidade de partícula aumentou a resistência e o módulo de elasticidade. Abstract Radiopaque properties in the infiltrant should be interesting for clinicians to feel more confident to indicate this treatment. Thus, the aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of the incorporation of barium and ytterbium particles on the physical properties of resin infiltrants. Groups were divided according to the addition of ytterbium oxide (Y) alone (30 or 40%) or Y with barium (YB) (15/15% or 20/20% respectively) in the Icon commercial infiltrant and in the experimental infiltrant base. Digital radiography (n=5), Microradiography (n=5), Microtomography (n=3), degree of conversion (n=5), water sorption (n=16), solubility (n=16), contact angle (n=16), flexural strength (n=16), elastic modulus (n=16) and Energy dispersive X-ray Spectroscopy (n=10) were performed. Analyses were performed using the R program, with a significance level of 5%, and microradiography and Microtomography analyses were evaluated qualitatively. In groups with 30 or 40% of ytterbium, radiopacity was higher or equal to enamel. Microradiography and Microtomography appear to have more radiopacity in groups with 40% (Y). Among the groups with no particle addition, those of the experimental infiltrant presented a higher degree of conversion than those of Icon®. In most groups, there was solubility below the ISO-recommended levels. The addition of particles resulted in higher viscosity. Groups with Icon had higher flexural strength and elastic modulus than groups with experimental infiltrant. The addition of 40% (Y) improved polymerization, had low solubility, and had greater radiopacity than enamel, however negatively affected the viscosity increasing then. Resumo Os polímeros Natrosol e Aristoflex® AVC são amplamente utilizados na indústria cosmética e foram recentemente aplicados como uma opção de espessante na composição de géis de clareamento dental, com o objetivo de reduzir os efeitos adversos sobre os componentes minerais do esmalte. O objetivo deste estudo foi avaliar a variação de cor (ΔE*ab, ΔE00, ∆WID), rugosidade da superfície (Ra), e quantificação do conteúdo mineral (Raman Spectroscopy) do esmalte dentário após clareamento dental com gel experimental baseado em 10% de peróxido de carbamida (CP), contendo Carbopol, Natrosol e Aristoflex® AVC. Sessenta dentes bovinos foram divididos aleatoriamente em 6 grupos (n=10): Controle Negativo (CN) - sem tratamento; Controle Positivo (CP) - Brancura Perfeita 10% - FGM; CP com Carbopol (CPc); CP com Natrosol (CPn); CP com Aristoflex® AVC (CPa); NCP - sem espessante. Os dados foram analisados e modelos lineares generalizados (∆WID -T0 x T1) foram usados para medições repetidas no tempo para Ra e com um fator de estudo para ΔE*ab e ΔE00. Para a avaliação do conteúdo mineral, os dados foram submetidos a testes unidirecionais de ANOVA e Tukey. Para a análise da superfície topográfica do esmalte, o Microscópio Eletrônico de Varredura (SEM) foi realizado. Um nível de significância de 5% foi considerado. ΔE*ab e ΔE00 foram significativamente maiores para os grupos CPc, CPn, CPa e NCP. (∆WID) mostrou uma média significativamente menor do que os outros grupos para NC em T1. Após o clareamento (aplicação diária de 4 horas por 14 dias), Ra foi maior nos grupos CPc, CPn e PC. Para CPa, Ra não foi alterado. Nenhuma diferença significativa foi encontrada na quantificação do conteúdo mineral. O CPa preservou a suavidade da superfície de forma mais eficaz. Aristoflex® AVC é uma opção viável para aplicação como espessante em géis de clareamento dental, apresentando desempenho satisfatório e mantendo a eficácia clareadora do gel, com a vantagem de preservar a rugosidade da superfície do esmalte dentário sem perda significativa de conteúdo mineral. Abstract Natrosol and Aristoflex® AVC polymers are widely applied in the cosmetic industry and have recently been applied as a thickener option in the composition of dental bleaching gels, with the purpose to reduce the adverse effects on enamel mineral components. The aim of this study was to evaluate the color variation (ΔE* ab, ΔE00, ∆WID), surface roughness (Ra), and mineral content quantification (Raman Spectroscopy) of dental enamel after bleaching treatment with experimental gel-based on 10% carbamide peroxide (CP), containing Carbopol, Natrosol, and Aristoflex® AVC. Sixty bovine teeth were randomly divided into 6 groups (n=10): Negative Control (NC) - no treatment; Positive Control (PC) - Whiteness Perfect 10% - FGM; CP with Carbopol (CPc); CP with Natrosol (CPn); CP with Aristoflex® AVC (CPa); NCP - no thickener. Data were analyzed, and generalized linear models (∆WID -T0 x T1) were used for repeated measurements in time for Ra and with a study factor for ΔE* ab and ΔE00. For the evaluation of the mineral content, data were submitted to one-way ANOVA and Tukey tests. For enamel topographic surface analysis the Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM) was performed. A significance level of 5% was considered. ΔE* ab and ΔE00 were significantly higher for CPc, CPn, CPa, and NCP groups. (∆WID) showed a significantly lower mean than the other groups for NC in T1. After bleaching (4-hour daily application for 14 days), Ra was higher in the CPc, CPn, and PC groups. For CPa, Ra was not altered. No significant difference was found in the quantification of mineral content. CPa preserved the surface smoothness more effectively. Aristoflex® AVC is a viable option for application as a thickener in dental bleaching gels, presenting satisfactory performance, and maintaining the whitening efficacy of the gel, with the advantage of preserving the surface roughness of tooth enamel without significant loss of mineral content. ABSTRACT Coordinated and harmonic (synchronous) ventricular electrical activation is essential for better left ventricular systolic function. Intraventricular conduction abnormalities, such as left bundle branch block due to artificial cardiac pacing, lead to electromechanical “dyssynchronopathy” with deleterious structural and clinical consequences. The aim of this review was to describe and improve the understanding of all the processes connecting the several mechanisms involved in the development of artificially induced ventricular dyssynchrony by cardiac pacing, most known as pacing-induced cardiomyopathy (PiCM). The chronic effect of abnormal impulse conduction and nonphysiological ectopic activation by artificial cardiac pacing is suspected to affect metabolism and myocardial perfusion, triggering regional differences in the activation/contraction processes that cause electrical and structural remodeling due to damage, inflammation, and fibrosis of the cardiac tissue. The effect of artificial cardiac pacing on ventricular function and structure can be multifactorial, and biological factors underlying PiCM could affect the time and probability of developing the condition. PiCM has not been included in the traditional classification of cardiomyopathies, which can hinder detection. This article reviews the available evidence for pacing-induced cardiovascular disease, the current understanding of its pathophysiology, and reinforces the adverse effects of right ventricular pacing, especially right ventricular pacing burden (commonly measured in percentage) and its repercussion on ventricular contraction (reflected by the impact on left ventricular systolic function). Abstract Objective To characterize activated charcoal and 2% hydrogen peroxide-based toothpastes and investigate their effects on roughness, color change, and gloss of bulk-fill composite resin. Methodology Composite resin specimens (Aura Bulk Fill, SDI) were subjected to 5,000 brushing cycles with regular toothpaste (Colgate Total 12, [RT]), activated charcoal toothpaste (Bianco Dental Carbon, [AC]), or hydrogen peroxide-containing toothpaste (Colgate Luminous White Advanced, [HP]), with or without coffee exposure. The pH, particle characterization by scanning electron microscopy (SEM), and weight% of solid particles in the toothpaste were assessed. Roughness (Ra) was evaluated using a surface profile-measuring device, color change (∆Eab/∆E00) by reflectance spectrophotometer, and gloss unit (GU) by glossmeter. Kruskal–Wallis, Dunn, Friedman, and Nemenyi tests were used, and the correlation coefficient test was performed between Ra and GU (α=0.05). Results RT presented a higher Ra after brushing and did not change after staining with coffee; moreover, the ∆Eab/∆E00 values were higher for RT than HP. Regarding gloss, AC and HP obtained higher values compared to RT. A significant negative correlation between gloss and Ra was found for RT exposed to coffee. All toothpastes had a neutral pH; however, RT had the largest percentage of solids by weight. SEM images showed particles of many sizes: irregular shape (RT), more regular particles (AC), and spherical clusters (HP). RESUMO Este artigo tem como objetivo analisar as publicações acadêmicas brasileiras sobre lutas e Educação Física. Utilizou-se a análise de conteúdo por meio de revisão narrativa, com 38 artigos como corpus. Como resultado construímos quatro categorias analíticas empíricas: 1) Espaço e aspectos socioculturais: apontam a falta de infraestrutura e a escassez de materiais como fatores restritivos para a abordagem dos conteúdos de luta nas escolas; 2) Tecnologias/mídias: que servem como ferramentas de auxílio para a inclusão das lutas na Educação Física escolar; 3) Currículo de Educação Física: aborda questões relacionadas a conteúdo, cultura, documentos e professores e 4) Prática pedagógica: que envolve questões mais específicas observadas nos estudos, como metodologias que envolvem a aplicação do conteúdo às aulas, vivências, dimensões do conteúdo, atividades e implicações sobre os temas discutidos no conteúdo, como a associação com a violência, a discriminação de gênero e a sexualidade. Concluímos que os estudos mostram que a abordagem das lutas como conteúdo nas escolas ainda é incipiente, sendo a insegurança do professor fator preponderante para que as lutas não sejam inseridas. Dessa forma, estudos indicam a necessidade de criar materiais e metodologias que auxiliem os professores, possibilitando assim a utilização de conteúdos já consolidados na literatura. ABSTRACT This article aims to analyze the Brazilian academic publications on fights and Physical Education. We used content analysis through a state of knowledge, with 38 articles as corpus. As results we built four empirical analytical categories: 1) Space and sociocultural aspects: they point the lack of infrastructure and the scarcity of materials as restrictive factors for the approach of the fight contents in schools; 2) Technologies/media: that serve as auxiliary tools for the inclusion of fights in school Physical Education; 3) Physical Education curriculum: addresses issues related to content, culture, documents and teachers; and 4) Pedagogical practice: which involves more specific issues observed in the studies, such as methodologies involving the application of the content to classes, experiences, dimensions of the content, activities and implications about the themes discussed in the content, such as the association with violence, gender discrimination and sexuality. We conclude that the studies show that the approach of fights as content in schools is still incipient, being the insecurity of the teacher a preponderant factor so that fights are not inserted. Abstract This work addresses the synthesis of a multi-band frequency selective surface (FSS) through bioinspired computing and a general regression neural network (GRNN). This hybrid computational method, which utilizes the multi-objective cuckoo search algorithm combined to a GRNN, determine the best physical dimensions of the FSS in order to achieve a multi-band filtering at the 2.4, 3.5 and 5.8 GHz spectrums. Therefore, the results are to be applied to aid the propagation of Wi-Fi, WLAN, WiMAX and future sub-6 GHz 5G systems. The resonant frequencies were measured and a -10 dB cutoff value has been considered for the transmission coefficient. The triple rectangular loop conductor geometry of the device is printed upon a glass epoxy (FR-4) substrate. Measurements were made for different wave incidence angles, from 0° up to 45°, to demonstrate how signal incidence would affect the device’s functioning. The agreement between simulated and measured data display satisfactory results.

Abstract In this work, a compact ultra-wide-band microstrip antenna loaded with C-shaped parasitic elements, for Digital Video Broadcasting - Terrestrial (DVB-T) and LTE 450 / 700 signal reception, is designed and presented. The proposed antenna is named “HI Monopole”, and its geometry has been designed to be simple, lightweight, and compact. Fabrication process is inexpensive and suitable for electronic gadgets. The HI Monopole operates with ultra-wide bandwidth characteristics, encompassing Digital Video Broadcasting - Terrestrial (DVB-T) standard (470-890 MHz), LTE-450 and LTE-700 bands. This feature has been accomplished by inserting an indent in its ground plane, adjusting dimensions of the feeding line, and adding two C-shaped parasite elements onto the region posterior to the antenna's main radiating element. It was verified via electromagnetic measuring that this device is capable of covering the 429-1022 MHz range. Hence, its total bandwidth is 593 MHz. The superior and inferior cutoff frequencies have been defined using the -10 dB return loss reference level. Therefore, the proposed antenna can be employed for receiving DTV and LTE signals broadcasted in any country, independently of its adopted standard.

Abstract In this work is presented a hybrid bioinspired optimization technique that associates a General Regression Neural Network (GRNN) with the Multiobjective Bat Algorithm (MOBA), for the design and synthesis of the Frequency Selective Surfaces (FSS), aiming its application in data communication systems by diffusion of millimeter waves, specifically, in the IEEE 802.15.3c standard. The designed device consists of planar arrangements of metallizations (patches), diamond-shaped, arranged over a RO4003 substrate. The FSS proposed in this study presents an operation with ultra-wide band characteristics, its patch designed to cover the range of 40.0 GHz at 70.0 GHz, i.e., 30.0 GHz bandwidth and 60.0 GHz resonance. The upper and lower cutoff frequencies, referring to the transmission coefficient's scattering matrix (dB), were obtained at the cutoff threshold at −10dB, to control the bandwidth of the device.

A series of new glycosylated 2-aryl-5-amidinobenzimidazoles derived from four different carbohydrates (D-glucose, D-galactose, N-acetyl-D-glucosamine and lactose) were synthesized by the condensation of the appropriate 4-formyl-3-methoxyphenyl glycoside with 4-amidino- or 4-N-isopropylamidino-ortho-phenylenediamine hydrochloride. All the compounds were properly characterized by high resolution mass spectrometry, uni- and bidimensional 1H and 13C nuclear magnetic resonance and then were evaluated for their antibacterial and antifungal potential. Considering the antifungal potential of them, two derivatives were active against Candida parapsilosis at 96.4 µmol L-1 and another was active against this same strain at 83.5 µmol L-1. In addition, one benzamidine showed activity against Candida glabrata at 97 µmol L-1. Considering the antibacterial potential of these compounds, six of them showed better activity against three different stains: three of them with IC50 of 96.4, 97 and 83.5 μmol L-1 against Gram-positive Micrococcus luteus, the other two with IC50 96.5 and 96.4 μmol L-1 against Gram-positive Enterococcus faecalis and one against Gram-negative Escherichia coli at 90.5 µmol L-1. These findings suggest this structural pattern can be employed for design of more potent agents for discovery of new antimicrobial drug candidates.

Colonialidade, subalternidade e narrativas de resistência numa comunidade afro-equatoriana

Resumo Partindo-se de um campo etnográfico dedicado à realidade da comunidade afro-equatoriana “La Chiquita”, nomeadamente quanto à sua luta pelo território ancestral que é-lhe de direito face à desterritorialização promovida pelo avanço do monocultivo de palma azeiteira, propomos: (I) compreender a dimensão da «colonialidade» do Estado no interior deste conflito, incluindo-se o ethos disciplinar e institucional que interpreta a negritude; e (II) identificar e analisar as diversas formas de resistência desta comunidade em resposta a tal estrutura sociopolítica vertical, trazendo à tona as narrativas do seu contexto desde uma crítica centrada na epistemologia e na sociologia jurídica.
Abstract Departing from an ethnographic fieldwork dedicated to the reality of the afro-ecuadorian community of “La Chiquita”, in particular on its struggle concerning their ancestral territorial integrity in response of a growing dispossession process orchestrated by oil palm monocultures in Ecuador, we propose: (I) comprehend the “coloniality” of the State within this conflict, including the disciplinary and institutional ethos in interpreting blackness; and (II) identify and analyze the various forms of resistance of this community in response to such vertical sociopolitical structure, bringing out their narratives in context from a criticism focused on epistemology and the sociology of law.

O Índice de Área Foliar (IAF) é determinante nos processos de trocas de massa e energia nos ecossistemas, sendo fundamental para o entendimento das mudanças no clima regional e na dinâmica do ecossistema. O objetivo deste trabalho foi analisar, por meio da geoestatística, a variabilidade e dependência espacial dos valores de índice de área foliar (IAF) em áreas naturais de campo 'baixo', campo 'alto' e floresta de transição no Sul do Amazonas. Os valores de IAF foram determinados numa malha regular com 33 pontos para cada área estudada, e a aquisição dos dados foi feita pelo analisador de dossel LAI-2000, que permite se calcular a estrutura da vegetação com base na radiação que penetra na copa das árvores. Os valores médios do IAF variaram de acordo com a área estudada, com maiores valores na floresta (4,42 m²m-2), seguida pelo campo alto (2,03 m²m-2) e campo baixo (1,72 m²m-2). Em todas as áreas os valores de IAF mostraram dependência espacial com o uso da krigagem entre as amostras e apresentam distribuição espacial diferenciada em cada área estudada: o grau de dependência espacial foi moderado na floresta de transição e fraco para os campos naturais, sendo que no campo alto a distância limite em que os pontos estão correlacionados é de 35,3 m. No mapa de krigagem foi possível observar manchas com valores altos e baixos distribuídos de forma diferenciada entre as áreas estudadas.
The Leaf Area Index (LAI) has strong influence on ecosystems' energy and mass exchange and is fundamental to the understanding of regional climate changes and ecosystem dynamics. The main goal of this work was to establish, based on geostatistical analyses, the variability and spatial dependence of LAI in the natural fields and transitional forest in southern Amazonas State, in Brazil. The LAI was measured in a regular grid with 33 points at each studied area. Field measurements were done using the canopy analyser LAI-2000, which calculates the structure of the vegetation based on the radiation beneath the tree canopy. The average values of LAI varied according to the studied sites: the highest values were found in the transitional forest (4.42 m²m-2), followed by the high (2.03 m²m-2) and low (1.72 m²m-2) natural fields. All studied sites showed spatial dependence according to the kriging methods, but with different degrees of dependence: spatial dependence was moderate at the transition forest and weak at the natural fields. In the more arboreal open field, the maximum limit at which the points are correlated reached a distance of 35.3 m. The kriging maps proved to be very important tools for describing the spatial distribution of LAI in the Amazon.
