A cardiomiopatia hipertrófica (CMH) é uma forma de doença do músculo cardíaco de causa genética, caracterizada pela hipertrofia das paredes ventriculares. O diagnóstico requer detecção por métodos de imagem (Ecocardiograma ou Ressonância Magnética Cardíaca) de qualquer segmento da parede do ventrículo esquerdo com espessura > 15 mm, sem outra causa provável. A análise genética permite identificar mutações de genes codificantes de diferentes estruturas do sarcômero responsáveis pelo desenvolvimento da CMH em cerca de 60% dos casos, permitindo o rastreio de familiares e aconselhamento genético, como parte importante do manejo dos pacientes e familiares. Vários conceitos sobre a CMH foram recentemente revistos, incluindo sua prevalência de 1 em 250 indivíduos, não sendo, portanto, uma doença rara, mas subdiagnosticada. A vasta maioria dos pacientes é assintomática. Naqueles sintomáticos, a obstrução do trato de saída do ventrículo esquerdo (OTSVE) é o principal distúrbio responsável pelos sintomas, devendo-se investigar a sua presença em todos os casos. Naqueles em que o ecocardiograma em repouso ou com Manobra de Valsalva não detecta gradiente intraventricular significativo (> 30 mmHg), devem ser submetidos à ecocardiografia com esforço físico para detecção da OTSVE. Pacientes com sintomas limitantes e grave OTSVE, refratários ao uso de betabloqueadores e verapamil, devem receber terapias de redução septal ou uso de novas drogas inibidoras da miosina cardíaca. Por fim, os pacientes adequadamente identificados com risco aumentado de morta súbita podem receber medida profilática com implante de cardiodesfibrilador implantável (CDI).
La miocardiopatía hipertrófica (MCH) es una forma de enfermedad cardíaca de origen genético, caracterizada por el engrosamiento de las paredes ventriculares. El diagnóstico requiere la detección mediante métodos de imagen (Ecocardiograma o Resonancia Magnética Cardíaca) que muestren algún segmento de la pared ventricular izquierda con un grosor > 15 mm, sin otra causa probable. El análisis genético permite identificar mutaciones en genes que codifican diferentes estructuras del sarcómero responsables del desarrollo de la MCH en aproximadamente el 60% de los casos, lo que permite el tamizaje de familiares y el asesoramiento genético, como parte importante del manejo de pacientes y familiares. Varios conceptos sobre la MCH han sido revisados recientemente, incluida su prevalencia de 1 entre 250 individuos, por lo tanto, no es una enfermedad rara, sino subdiagnosticada. La gran mayoría de los pacientes son asintomáticos. En los casos sintomáticos, la obstrucción del tracto de salida ventricular izquierdo (TSVI) es el trastorno principal responsable de los síntomas, y su presencia debe investigarse en todos los casos. En aquellos en los que el ecocardiograma en reposo o la maniobra de Valsalva no detecta un gradiente intraventricular significativo (> 30 mmHg), deben someterse a ecocardiografía de esfuerzo para detectar la obstrucción del TSVI. Los pacientes con síntomas limitantes y obstrucción grave del TSVI, refractarios al uso de betabloqueantes y verapamilo, deben recibir terapias de reducción septal o usar nuevos medicamentos inhibidores de la miosina cardíaca. Finalmente, los pacientes adecuadamente identificados con un riesgo aumentado de muerte súbita pueden recibir medidas profilácticas con el implante de un cardioversor-desfibrilador implantable (CDI).
Hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCM) is a form of genetically caused heart muscle disease, characterized by the thickening of the ventricular walls. Diagnosis requires detection through imaging methods (Echocardiogram or Cardiac Magnetic Resonance) showing any segment of the left ventricular wall with a thickness > 15 mm, without any other probable cause. Genetic analysis allows the identification of mutations in genes encoding different structures of the sarcomere responsible for the development of HCM in about 60% of cases, enabling screening of family members and genetic counseling, as an important part of patient and family management. Several concepts about HCM have recently been reviewed, including its prevalence of 1 in 250 individuals, hence not a rare but rather underdiagnosed disease. The vast majority of patients are asymptomatic. In symptomatic cases, obstruction of the left ventricular outflow tract (LVOT) is the primary disorder responsible for symptoms, and its presence should be investigated in all cases. In those where resting echocardiogram or Valsalva maneuver does not detect significant intraventricular gradient (> 30 mmHg), they should undergo stress echocardiography to detect LVOT obstruction. Patients with limiting symptoms and severe LVOT obstruction, refractory to beta-blockers and verapamil, should receive septal reduction therapies or use new drugs inhibiting cardiac myosin. Finally, appropriately identified patients at increased risk of sudden death may receive prophylactic measure with implantable cardioverter-defibrillator (ICD) implantation.

Resumo Uma espécie nova de Inpaichthys é descrita de um tributário do rio Canamã, bacia do rio Aripuanã, estado de Mato Grosso, Brasil. A espécie nova pode ser diagnosticada de suas congêneres por seu padrão de colorido em vida e por caracteres morfométricos e merísticos. Uma ampla análise filogenética de Characidae, conduzida para avaliar o posicionamento genérico da nova espécie, demonstrou que Hasemania nambiquara também é um membro do gênero Inpaichthys e esta espécie é aqui transferida a esse gênero. Um grupo monofilético composto pelas três espécies de Inpaichthys é hipotetizado como sendo relacionado a Nematobrycon e o clado composto por Carlana, Pseudochalceus e Rhoadsia, entre os táxons aqui examinados. Abstract A new species of Inpaichthys is described from a tributary of the rio Canamã, rio Aripuanã basin, Mato Grosso State, Brazil. The new species can be diagnosed from its congeners by the color pattern in life and by morphometric and meristic features. A comprehensive phylogenetic analysis of the Characidae, conducted to assess the generic placement of the new species, revealed that Hasemania nambiquara is also a member of Inpaichthys and thus transferred to this genus. A monophyletic group composed of the three known species of Inpaichthys is hypothesized to be related to Nematobrycon and a clade composed of Carlana, Pseudochalceus, and Rhoadsia, among the taxa herein analyzed. Development of platforms capable of guarantee a controlled NO release at a specific target is highly promising yet challenging. Herein, we present the synthesis and characterization of cis-[Ru(bpy)2(1,4-dt)(NO)](PF6)3 (RuNO), where 1,4-dt = 1,4-dithiane and bpy = 2,2’-bipyridine, which was adsorbed on gold through the sulfur atom of 1,4-dt. This complex was thoroughly characterized by electrochemistry, nuclear magnetic resonance, and vibrational and electronic spectroscopies whose assignments were corroborated by theoretical data. The formation of the self-assembled monolayer (SAM) of RuNO on gold was monitored by surface plasmon resonance giving a coverage density of 2.1 × 10–10 mol cm–2. Taking advantage of the NO lability upon reduction, electrochemical scanning microscopy (SECM) was used to both trigger the NO release from the SAM of RuNO on the gold substrate and detection at the SECM tip. ABSTRACT In 2000, Cleide Costa published a paper presenting the state of knowledge of the Neotropical Coleopte ra, with a focus on the Brazilian fauna. Twenty-four years later, thanks to the development of the Coleoptera section of the Taxonomic Catalog of the Brazilian Fauna (CTFB - Catálogo Taxonômico da Fauna do Brasil) through the collaboration of 100 coleopterists from all over the globe, we can build on Costa’s work and present an updated overview of the state of knowledge of the beetles from Brazil. There are currently 35,699 species in 4,958 genera and 116 families known to occur in the country, including representatives of all extant suborders and superfamilies. Our data show that the Brazilian beetle fauna is the richest on the planet, concentrating 9% of the world species diversity, with some estimates accounting to up to 15% of the global total. The most diverse family in numbers of genera is Cerambycidae (1,056 genera), while in number of species it is Chrysomelidae (6,079 species). Conotrachelus Dejean, 1835 (Curculionidae) is the most species-rich genus, with 570 species. The French entomologist Maurice Pic is the author who has contributed the most to the naming of species recorded from Brazil, with 1,794 valid names in 36 families, whereas the Brazilians Ubirajara R. Martins and Maria Helena M. Galileo are the only ones among the top-ten authors to have named species in the 21st century. RESUMO A concentração adequada de salinidade pode impactar positivamente o crescimento das plantas de girassol. Nessa perspectiva, este trabalho teve como objetivo avaliar o girassol. BRS 323 no que diz respeito aos efeitos da salinidade e ao uso de solução pirolenhosa como mitigante. O experimento foi conduzido em viveiro de plantas. O delineamento experimental foi inteiramente casualizado, em arranjo fatorial 5 x 2 com quatro repetições, uma planta por parcela. Os tratamentos corresponderam a cinco níveis de condutividade elétrica da água de irrigação: 0.75 dS m-1 (controle); 1.65; 1.95; 2.65 e 2.85 dS m-1, obtidos pela dissolução de cloreto de sódio, e duas condições de aplicação de solução pirolenhosa, com e sem. Semanalmente, as plantas foram avaliadas quanto ao crescimento em altura, diâmetro e área foliar. Além disso, foram avaliados os valores de índices de clorofila a, clorofila b, clorofila total, matéria fresca e seca da parte aérea e radicular e matéria fresca e seca dos botões florais aos 50 dias após a semeadura, correspondente ao final da fase experimental. Os resultados sugerem que a solução pirolenhosa, na concentração testada, pode ser recomendada para aumentar os índices de clorofila a, b e total. ABSTRACT Proper salinity concentration can positively impact the growth of sunflower plants. From this perspective, this study aimed to evaluate the sunflower BRS 323 with regard to the effects of salinity and the use of pyroligneous solution as a salt stress mitigator. The experiment was conducted in a plant nursery. The experimental design was completely randomized, in 5 x 2 factorial arrangement with four replications, with one plant per plot. The treatments corresponded to five electrical conductivity levels of irrigation water: 0.75 dS m-1 (control); 1.65; 1.95; 2.65 and 2.85 dS m-1, obtained by dissolving sodium chloride, and two conditions of pyroligneous solution application , with and without. Weekly, the plants were evaluated for growth in height, diameter, and leaf area. Also, the values of the indices of chlorophyll a, chlorophyll b, total chlorophyll, shoot and root fresh and dry mass, and flower bud fresh and dry mass were evaluated 50 days after sowing, corresponding to the end of the experimental phase. RESUMO A berinjela (Solanum melongena) é amplamente cultivada. Apresenta tolerância moderada ao défice hídrico, mas sofre perdas de rendimento nas regiões áridas e semiáridas onde é cultivada. O objetivo deste estudo foi investigar a influência das nanopartículas de óxido de zinco (NPZnO), em associação com bactérias promotoras de crescimento vegetal (BPCV), na qualidade pós-colheita de berinjela submetida a déficit hídrico. Foram estudadas duas percentagens de irrigação referentes à evapotranspiração potencial -ETo (50 e 100% de ETo) e cinco combinações envolvendo NPZnO ou BPCV. Foram avaliados peso e número de frutos comerciais e não comerciais, diâmetro, comprimento, cor da casca, firmeza, acidez titulável, sólidos solúveis, SS/TA, vitamina C e açúcares solúveis totais. Houve forte correlação positiva entre peso de frutos comerciais, SS/TA, açúcares solúveis totais, acidez titulável, luminosidade e vitamina C nos tratamentos contendo ZnSO₄, NPZnO e BPCV. O déficit hídrico e as nanopartículas contendo zinco, associadas ou não a bactérias promotoras do crescimento das plantas, não influenciaram o peso e o tamanho médio dos frutos e a qualidade pós-colheita da cultura da berinjela. O déficit hídrico reduziu a cromaticidade e a luminosidade da cor da casca e o teor de vitamina C da berinjela. ABSTRACT Eggplant (Solanum melongena) is widely cultivated. It shows moderate tolerance to water deficit, but suffers yield losses in the arid and semi-arid regions where it is grown. The aim of this study was to investigate the influence of zinc oxide nanoparticles (NPZnO), in association with plant growth-promoting bacteria (PGPB), on the post-harvest quality of eggplant subjected to water deficit. Two irrigation percentages relative to potential evapotranspiration-ETo (50 and 100% ETo) and five combinations involving NPZnO or PGPB were studied. Number of commercial fruits per plant and weight of commercial fruits per plant, diameter, length, skin color, firmness, titratable acidity, soluble solids, SS/TA, vitamin C and total soluble sugars were evaluated. There was strong positive correlation between weight of commercial fruits per plant, SS/TA, total soluble sugars, titratable acidity, lightness and vitamin C in the treatments containing ZnSO₄, NPZnO and PGPB. Water deficit and nanoparticles containing zinc, associated or not with bacteria that promote plant growth, did not influence the weight and average size of the fruits and the post-harvest quality of the eggplant crop. Water deficit reduced the chromaticity and lightness of the skin color and the vitamin C content of eggplant. Resumo O presente estudo avaliou as respostas hematológicas, antiparasitária e de crescimento de tambaqui (Colossoma macropomum) após alimentação com dietas suplementadas com microalgas Arthospira platensis e Chlorella vulgaris (0%; 10% A. platensis; 10% C. vulgaris; e 5% A. platensis+5% C. vulgaris). Exemplares de tambaqui (n=60, 62,57±8,76 g) foram alimentados por 20 dias com as dietas experimentais. Amostras de sangue foram coletadas para determinação dos parâmetros hematológicos e brânquias foram retiradas para contagem de parasitos monogenéticos. A suplementação com A. platensis 10% reduziu o RBC, consequentemente aumentando os valores de VCM e HCM. As contagens de leucócitos (total) e de monócitos, eosinófilos e basófilos reduziram com o uso de A. platensis. Números altos de monócitos, eosinófilos e basófilos em tambaqui alimentado com dietas com 10% C. vulgaris foram observados e podem ter ocorrido devido à presença de imunoestimulantes na composição da microalga utilizada. Redução dos níveis plasmáticos de colesterol total em tambaqui indicou que a inclusão das duas microalgas (A. platensis 5%+C. vulgaris 5%) pode indicar que maiores benefícios à saúde do peixe do que quando separadamente suplementada. Ambas mostraram eficácia contra parasitos monogenéticos das brânquias de tambaqui. Abstract The present study evaluated the hematological, antiparasitic and growth responses in tambaqui (Colossoma macropomum) fed with diets supplemented with the microalgae Arthrospira platensis and Chlorella vulgaris (0%; 10% A. platensis; 10% C. vulgaris; and 5% A. platensis+5% C. vulgaris). Tambaqui (n=60, 62.57 ± 8.76 g) were fed for 20 days with experimental diets. Blood samples collection was done to determine hematological parameters, and gills were removed to identify and count monogenetic parasites. Supplementation with A. platensis 10% reduced red blood cells count, in consequence mean corpuscular volume and mean hemoglobin concentration increased. Total leukocyte, monocyte, eosinophil, and basophil counts reduced with the use of A. platensis. Higher monocytes, eosinophil, and basophil numbers in tambaqui fed with diet supplemented with 10% C. vulgaris were observed and may have been due to the presence of immunostimulants in this microalga composition. Reduction on total cholesterol in tambaqui that received both microalgae (A. platensis 5%+C. vulgaris 5%) may indicate that combined supplementation presented greater benefits to the health for C. macropomum than separately. Both microalgae were efficient against monogenetic parasites of tambaqui. Thus, the dietary use of the microalgae A. platensis and C. vulgaris provided immunostimulant and antiparasitic efficacy in C. macropomum. ABSTRACT The limited temporal completeness and taxonomic accuracy of species lists, made available in a traditional manner in scientific publications, has always represented a problem. These lists are invariably limited to a few taxonomic groups and do not represent up-to-date knowledge of all species and classifications. In this context, the Brazilian megadiverse fauna is no exception, and the Catálogo Taxonômico da Fauna do Brasil (CTFB) (http://fauna.jbrj.gov.br/), made public in 2015, represents a database on biodiversity anchored on a list of valid and expertly recognized scientific names of animals in Brazil. The CTFB is updated in near real time by a team of more than 800 specialists. By January 1, 2024, the CTFB compiled 133,691 nominal species, with 125,138 that were considered valid. Most of the valid species were arthropods (82.3%, with more than 102,000 species) and chordates (7.69%, with over 11,000 species). These taxa were followed by a cluster composed of Mollusca (3,567 species), Platyhelminthes (2,292 species), Annelida (1,833 species), and Nematoda (1,447 species). All remaining groups had less than 1,000 species reported in Brazil, with Cnidaria (831 species), Porifera (628 species), Rotifera (606 species), and Bryozoa (520 species) representing those with more than 500 species. Analysis of the CTFB database can facilitate and direct efforts towards the discovery of new species in Brazil, but it is also fundamental in providing the best available list of valid nominal species to users, including those in science, health, conservation efforts, and any initiative involving animals. Resumo A onicomicose é a doença mais comum que afeta a unidade ungueal e representa pelo menos 50% de todas as doenças ungueais. Além disso, a Candida albicans é responsável por aproximadamente 70% das onicomicoses causadas por leveduras. Nesse estudo, foi investigado o efeito antifúngico dos enantiômeros (R) e (S)-citronelal, bem como seu mecanismo de ação preditivo sobre C. albicans de onicomicoses resistentes ao voriconazol. Para este propósito, foram aplicadas técnicas in vitro de microdiluição em caldo e docking molecular de forma preditiva e complementar para os mecanismos de ação. Os principais resultados deste estudo indicam que C. albicans foi resistente ao voriconazol e sensível aos enantiômeros (R) e (S)-citronelal na dose de 256 e 32 µg/mL respectivamente. Além disso, houve aumento da concentração inibitória mínima (CIM) dos enantiômeros na presença do sorbitol e do ergosterol, indicando que estas moléculas possivelmente afetem a integridade da parede e da membrana celular de C. albicans. O docking molecular com proteínas chave da biossíntese e manutenção da parede celular e da membrana plasmática fúngica, demonstraram a possibilidade do (R) e (S)-citronelal interagir com duas importantes enzimas: 1,3-β-glucan sintase e lanosterol 14α-demetilase. Abstract Onychomycosis is the most common disease affecting the nail unit and accounts for at least 50% of all nail diseases. In addition, Candida albicans is responsible for approximately 70% of onychomycoses caused by yeasts. This study investigated the antifungal effect of (R) and (S)-citronellal enantiomers, as well as its predictive mechanism of action on C. albicans from voriconazole-resistant onychomycoses. For this purpose, in vitro broth microdilution and molecular docking techniques were applied in a predictive and complementary manner to the mechanisms of action. The main results of this study indicate that C. albicans was resistant to voriconazole and sensitive to the enantiomers (R) and (S)-citronellal at a dose of 256 and 32 µg/mL respectively. In addition, there was an increase in the minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) of the enantiomers in the presence of sorbitol and ergosterol, indicating that these molecules possibly affect the integrity of the cell wall and cell membrane of C. albicans. Molecular docking with key biosynthesis proteins and maintenance of the fungal cell wall and plasma membrane demonstrated the possibility of (R) and (S)-citronellal interacting with two important enzymes: 1,3-β-glucan synthase and lanosterol 14α-demethylase. Abstract Introduction: Optimized allocation of medical resources to patients with COVID-19 has been a critical concern since the onset of the pandemic. Methods: In this retrospective cohort study, the authors used data from a Brazilian tertiary university hospital to explore predictors of Intensive Care Unit (ICU) admission and hospital mortality in patients admitted for COVID-19. Our primary aim was to create and validate prediction scores for use in hospitals and emergency departments to aid clinical decisions and resource allocation. Results: The study cohort included 3,022 participants, of whom 2,485 were admitted to the ICU; 1968 survived, and 1054 died in the hospital. From the complete cohort, 1,496 patients were randomly assigned to the derivation sample and 1,526 to the validation sample. The final scores included age, comorbidities, and baseline laboratory data. The areas under the receiver operating characteristic curves were very similar for the derivation and validation samples. Scores for ICU admission had a 75% accuracy in the validation sample, whereas scores for death had a 77% accuracy in the validation sample. The authors found that including baseline flu-like symptoms in the scores added no significant benefit to their accuracy. Furthermore, our scores were more accurate than the previously published NEWS-2 and 4C Mortality Scores. Discussion and conclusions: The authors developed and validated prognostic scores that use readily available clinical and laboratory information to predict ICU admission and mortality in COVID-19. Resumo O controle do Aedes aegypti é feito com inseticidas químicos que promovem resistência a estes compostos. Buscando novas formas de controle, o uso de produtos botânicos atualmente é crescente e muitos testes com óleos já foram realizados. A diversidade vegetal da Floresta Nacional do Araripe possibilita o estudo de diversas espécies contra este vetor. Para avaliar o efeito larvicida dos óleos essenciais de plantas dessa floresta, foram utilizados alecrim do campo, copaíba, louro, cajuí e pequi. O trabalho foi dividido em três etapas: todos os óleos com a mesma dosagem; o melhor óleo nas dosagens de 0, 5, 10, 20, 50 e 75 µg/mL; e a melhor dosagem nas temperaturas de 15, 20, 25, 30 e 35 °C. Os óleos de alecrim do campo, copaíba, louro, cajuí e pequi são bons inseticidas quando utilizados em dosagens acima de 5 μg/mL. O óleo de louro apresenta alta atividade larvicida em todas as dosagens testadas, apresentando a maior eficiência a 75 μg/mL. Temperaturas de 15 e 35 °C aumentam a suscetibilidade do inseto ao efeito do óleo de louro. Abstract Aedes aegypti control is achieved with chemical insecticides that can promote insecticide resistance. In the search for new forms of control, the use of botanical products is currently growing and many tests with oils have already been performed. The plant diversity of Araripe National Forest enables the study of several species against this vector. To evaluate the larvicidal effect of essential oils from plants of this forest, we used field rosemary, copaiba, bay leaf, cashew and pequi. The work was divided into three stages: all oils with the same dosage; the best oil at dosages of 0, 5, 10, 20, 50 and 75 µg/mL; and the best dosage at temperatures of 15, 20, 25, 30 and 35 °C. The oils of field rosemary, copaiba, bay leaf, cashew and pequi were good insecticides when used at dosages above 5 μg/mL. The bay leaf oil showed high larvicidal activity at all dosages tested, showing the highest efficiency at 75 μg/mL. Temperatures of 15 and 35 °C increased the susceptibility of the insect to the effect of the bay leaf oil. Resumo Este estudo avalia a semelhança reprodutiva e ecológica entre a tartaruga cabeçuda (Caretta caretta) e a tartaruga-de-pente (Eretmochelys imbricata) duas espécies de tartarugas marinhas no litoral sul da Bahia (Brasil) durante duas estações reprodutivas (outubro a abril de 2013 a 2015) . O estudo abrange uma área de 10 km composta por três praias, Pompilho, Itacarezinho e praia do Patizeiro, com 5, 3 e 2 km de extensão, respectivamente. Foram realizados levantamentos diários de campo durante 102 dias para avaliar padrões entre as espécies estudadas, utilizando a ordem de escala multidimensional não métrica e a análise de correlação de Spearman para obter o padrão de oviposição das duas espécies. Além disso, testes de Kruskall-Wallys foram realizados para revisar as diferenças no número de filhotes nas três praias. O NMDS provou que as espécies são muito semelhantes do ponto de vista ecológico, pois havia três agrupamentos claros em termos do número de filhotes nas três praias. Com relação ao número de ninhos, foi observada correlação negativa nas duas espécies. Em relação à atividade de eclosão de ambas as espécies nas três praias estudadas, uma maior quantidade de filhotes de C. caretta e E. imbricata foi encontrada na praia do Pompilho, seguida de Patizeiro e Itacarézinho. Esses achados influenciam as estratégias de manejo para reduzir o impacto antropogênico e contribuir para a conservação dessas duas espécies de tartarugas marinhas ameaçadas de extinção.
Abstract This study evaluates the reproductive and ecological similarity between loggerhead sea turtle (Caretta caretta) and Hawksbill sea turtle (Eretmochelys imbricata) two species of sea turtles on the southern coast of Bahia (Brazil) during two breeding seasons (October to April 2013 to 2015). The study covers a 10-km area composed of three beaches, Pompilho, Itacarezinho and Patizeiro beach, which are 5, 3, and 2 km long, respectively. Daily field surveys were performed for 102 days to assess patterns between the studied species, using the non-metric multidimensional scaling order and the Spearman correlation analysis to obtain the oviposition pattern of the two species. Moreover, Kruskall-Wallys tests were performed to review the differences in the number of hatchlings on the three beaches. The NMDS proved the species are very similar from an ecological perspective since as there were three clear groupings in terms of the number of hatchlings on the three beaches. With reference to the number of nests, a negative correlation was observed in the two species. Regarding the hatching activity of both species on the three beaches studied, a larger amount of C. caretta and E. imbricata hatchlings was found on Pompilho beach, followed by Patizeiro and Itacarézinho. These findings influence management strategies to reduce anthropogenic impact and contribute to the conservation of these two endangered sea turtle species.

Resumo Durante o levantamento de parasitas de anfíbios brasileiros do estado de São Paulo, Brasil, Gorgoderina parvicava Travassos, 1922 foi encontrado na bexiga urinária (11 vermes adultos) e nos rins (cinco vermes juvenis) da rã-pimenta Leptodactylus labyrinthicus (Spix, 1824). Os parasitas foram examinados por microscopia e os genes 28S rDNA e COI foram sequenciados e analisados para o estudo molecular. As reconstruções filogenéticas resultaram em topologias idênticas com valores suportados nos nós na maioria dos clados, usando métodos de máxima verossimilhança e inferência bayesiana e posicionaram G. parvicava no subclado formado por espécies da subfamília Gorgoderinae parasitando a bexiga urinária de anfíbios. Dados filogenéticos moleculares mostraram que esta espécie está relacionada a outras espécies de Gorgoderina. Além disso, novos dados moleculares e as análises de distâncias genéticas fornecem dados comparativos extras, que podem ser aplicados em futuras investigações sobre o status taxonômico e a diversidade entre Gorgoderina spp. e relações parasita-hospedeiro.
Abstract During a parasite survey in Brazilian amphibians from São Paulo state, Brazil, Gorgoderina parvicava Travassos, 1922 was found in the urinary bladder (11 adult worms) and (five juvenile worms) in the kidneys of the pepper-frog Leptodactylus labyrinthicus (Spix, 1824). Parasites were examined by microscopy and 28S rDNA and COI gene were sequenced and analyzed for the molecular study. The phylogenetic reconstructions resulted in identical topologies with highly supported values in the nodes in most clades using Maximum likelihood and Bayesian inference methods and positioned G. parvicava in the subclade formed by species of subfamily Gorgoderinae parasitizing the urinary bladder of amphibians. Molecular phylogenetic data showed that this species is related to other species of Gorgoderina. In addition, new molecular data and the analyses of genetic distances provide extra comparative data, which can be applied in further investigations on the taxonomic status and the diversity among Gorgoderina spp. and host-parasite relationships.
