Background: There are several types of laminoplasty reported in the literature, but there are few studies comparing which one expands the canal the most. One of the ways to evaluate this comparison is by applying the techniques in a three-dimensional anatomical model. Objective: Define which laminoplasty technique provides the greatest increase in spinal canal dimensions. Method: This is an experimental study, a type of clinical trial. Initially, a patient was identified and diagnosed with cervical spinal canal stenosis at multiple levels, of degenerative etiology resulting in myelopathy. Magnetic resonance imaging and computed tomography of the patient's cervical spine were imported to a software program to print the anatomical model. A total of twenty identical cervical spine biomodels were printed, equally distributed into four groups: control, Open-door (OD), French-door (FD), and Two-open-doors (TOD) laminoplasty. The biomodels of the experimental groups were submitted to the laminoplasty surgical procedure, from C3 to C6, according to each technique. All specimens of the study were submitted to tomography, and the cross-sectional area and anteroposterior diameter of the vertebral canal were measured. The data were submitted to statistical analyses (ANOVA analysis) and p-value results < 0.05 were considered as statistically significant. An equivalence or non-inferiority test was applied in the absence of a statistical difference between the groups. Results: All techniques increased the dimensions of the spinal canal. OD laminoplasty was superior to FD in the area evaluation (OD: 2.17cm2; FD: 1.92cm2) and there was no statistical difference in increased anteroposterior diameter (OD: 10.97mm; FD:10.42mm). TOD laminoplasty (area: 2.30 cm2; diameter: 11.94 mm) that was superior to FD in both variables. There was no statistical difference between OD and TOD laminoplasty, although the latter tended to further expand the vertebral canal, based on the equivalence tests. Conclusion: The open-door technique expands the cross-sectional area of the spinal canal more than French-door laminoplasty with no significant difference in diameter. Two-open-doors laminoplasty increases the dimensions of the spinal canal more than the French-door, and it tends to be superior to Open-door laminoplasty.
Resultados: Todas as técnicas aumentaram as dimensões do canal vertebral.

Abstract The aim of this study was to analyze the expression of mast cell markers toluidine blue, c-kit, and tryptase and presence of mononuclear inflammatory cells in oral lichen planus (OLP) and oral lichenoid lesions related to dental amalgam. Nineteen specimens of OLP, OLLC, and healthy oral mucosa were selected. Mononuclear inflammatory cells were analyzed. Histochemical and immunohistochemical analyses were performed using toluidine blue, anti-c-kit and anti-tryptase reagents, and the results were quantified in areas A and B of connective tissue. Mast cells of all OLP and OLLC samples were positive for toluidine blue, c-kit, and tryptase. The density of toluidine blue+, c-kit+ and tryptase+ mast cells was higher in tissue with OLP and OLLC compared with healthy controls (p < 0.05). No difference was noted in mast cells density between OLP and OLLC (p > 0.05). The density of tryptase+ mast cells was higher in the subepithelial region (area A) than the region below it (Area B) in OLLC (p = 0.047). The mononuclear inflammatory cell density was higher in OLLC compared to OLP, but without statistical significance (p > 0.05). A positive statistical correlation was found between mononuclear immune cells and density of c-kit+ and tryptase+ mast cells in OLP (r = 0.943 and r = 0.886, respectively). Our data demonstrate that the etiopathogenesis process of OLP and OLLC modulates the expansion and degranulation of mast cells; mast cells density, however, was similar between OLP and OLLC. The distribution of mast cells appears to vary along the lamina propria. blue ckit, ckit c kit, kit c-kit (OLP amalgam selected analyzed antickit anti antitryptase reagents blue+ ckit+ kit+ p 0.05. 005 0.05 . 0 05 0.05) area Area 0.047. 0047 0.047 047 0.047) 0943 943 0.94 0886 886 0.886 respectively. respectively respectively) however propria 00 0.0 004 0.04 04 094 94 0.9 088 88 0.88 0. 09 9 08 8 0.8

Abstract A checklist of recent and fossil fishes of the Order Characiformes is presented herein and believed to be complete through 2022. A total of 47 collaborators checked and provided information about their taxa of expertise. The list is arranged in alphabetical order by family and then genus and includes all available synonyms. From a total of 3,087 species group names and 527 genus group names, 2,334 species are currently treated as valid, and assigned to 301 genera and 24 families. This total includes 25 species known only from the fossil record, of which 21 are assigned to eight extant families and four are Incertae sedis in Characiformes, but does not include five species based on fossil which were wrongly treated in Characiformes. The status of 79 nominal species remains unresolved. When there are two competing hypotheses about the validity of a name, one of them is chosen and the alternate interpretation is provided in the remark section of that name. Distributional summaries are presented as numbers that correspond to areas for which there is a record of occurrence of the species. A list of unavailable names is provided at the end since some of those names may need additional research to certify their status. 2022 4 expertise synonyms 3087 3 087 3,08 52 2334 2 334 2,33 valid 30 7 unresolved name 202 308 08 3,0 5 233 33 2,3 20 0 3, 23 2,

ABSTRACT Although lung cancer (LC) is one of the most common and lethal tumors, only 15% of patients are diagnosed at an early stage. Smoking is still responsible for more than 85% of cases. Lung cancer screening (LCS) with low-dose CT (LDCT) reduces LC-related mortality by 20%, and that reduction reaches 38% when LCS by LDCT is combined with smoking cessation. In the last decade, a number of countries have adopted population-based LCS as a public health recommendation. Albeit still incipient, discussion on this topic in Brazil is becoming increasingly broad and necessary. With the aim of increasing knowledge and stimulating debate on LCS, the Brazilian Society of Thoracic Surgery, the Brazilian Thoracic Association, and the Brazilian College of Radiology and Diagnostic Imaging convened a panel of experts to prepare recommendations for LCS in Brazil. The recommendations presented here were based on a narrative review of the literature, with an emphasis on large population-based studies, systematic reviews, and the recommendations of international guidelines, and were developed after extensive discussion by the panel of experts. The following topics were reviewed: reasons for screening; general considerations about smoking; epidemiology of LC; eligibility criteria; incidental findings; granulomatous lesions; probabilistic models; minimum requirements for LDCT; volumetric acquisition; risks of screening; minimum structure and role of the multidisciplinary team; practice according to the Lung CT Screening Reporting and Data System; costs versus benefits of screening; and future perspectives for LCS. Abstract The objective of this study was to evaluate the fractal dimension (FD) and lacunarity of the mandibular bone, comparing patients with and without osteoradionecrosis (ORN). In a cross-sectional study with a control group, 25 patients were included and divided into a case group (with ORN, n = 14) and a control group (without ORN, n = 11). A digital panoramic radiograph taken after the end of radiotherapy (RT) was evaluated for each patient. FD and lacunarity of the mandibular bone were determined using ImageJ software. Descriptive, bivariate, and ROC curve analyses were performed. Cohen's d effect sizes were calculated. Significance was established at p < 0.05. The mean FD and lacunarity values were not significantly different between the groups. The area under the curve for FD and lacunarity were 0.579 and 0.661, respectively. The cut-off point for FD was ≤1.1714 and for lacunarity, > 0.3821, correctly classifying the majority of cases and controls. Most participants in the case group (63.6%) had a FD ≤ 1.1714 and the majority of participants in the control group (63.6%) had a FD >1.1714 (p = 0.395). For lacunarity, most individuals in the case group (72.7%) had a value > 0.3821 and most participants in the control group (63.6%) had a value ≤ 0.3821 (p = 0.198). In conclusion, the FD and lacunarity values did not show statistically significant differences between patients with and without ORN. However, the moderate and large magnitude of the effects seem to indicate that the results may be clinically relevant. (FD ORN . (LC (TAVR desenvolvimento tempo 200 2023 NSC. NSC . Abstract Background Robust data on the learning curve (LC) of transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR) are lacking in developing countries. Objective To assess TAVR’s LC in Brazil over time. Methods We analyzed data from the Brazilian TAVR registry from 2008 to 2023. Patients from each center were numbered chronologically in case sequence numbers (CSNs). LC was performed using restricted cubic splines adjusted for EuroSCORE-II and the use of new-generation prostheses. Also, in-hospital outcomes were compared between groups defined according to the level of experience based on the CSN: 1st to 40th (initial-experience), 41st to 80th (early-experience), 81st to 120th (intermediate-experience), and over 121st (high-experience). Additional analysis was performed grouping hospitals according to the number of cases treated before 2014 (>40 and ≤40 procedures). The level of significance adopted was <0.05. Results A total of 3,194 patients from 25 centers were included. Mean age and EuroSCORE II were 80.7±8.1 years and 7±7.1, respectively. LC analysis demonstrated a drop in adjusted in-hospital mortality after treating 40 patients. A leveling off of the curve was observed after case #118. In-hospital mortality across the groups was 8.6%, 7.7%, 5.9%, and 3.7% for initial-, early-, intermediate-, and high-experience, respectively (p<0.001). High experience independently predicted lower mortality (OR 0.57, p=0.013 vs. initial experience). Low-volume centers before 2014 showed no significant decrease in the likelihood of death with gained experience, whereas high-volume centers had a continuous improvement after case #10. Conclusion A TAVR LC phenomenon was observed for in-hospital mortality in Brazil. This effect was more pronounced in centers that treated their first 40 cases before 2014 than those that reached this milestone after 2014. (LC (TAVR countries TAVRs s time 200 2023 CSNs. CSNs . Abstract This study aimed to investigate the effect of including mouse feed with different concentrations (5, 10, or 20%) of Pereskia aculeata Miller (PAM) leaves on the morphology and development of preantral ovarian follicles and ovarian stromal cell density. The oral toxicity was performed using repeated dose toxicity assays subdivided into experiments of 30 days and 90 days of treatment. After the experiments, the ovaries of each animal were collected and submitted to classical histology. At 30 and 90 days, there was an equivalent percentage of normal, primordial, and developing follicles (P > 0.05) between PAM treatments compared to the control. Regarding the different stages of follicular development, after 90 days, there was a higher percentage (P < 0.05) of developing follicles only in the control group compared to day 30. The PAM 5% treatment was the only one that affected the cell density in the stroma after 90 days of treatment. Thus, we observed that supplementing the diet with P. aculeata did not pose any risk concerning animal consumption; specifically, there were no toxic reproductive effects observed from adding Pereskia aculeata Miller to the mouse diet. 5, 5 (5 10 20% 20 (PAM 3 9 histology normal primordial P 0.05 005 0 05 Thus consumption specifically ( 1 2 0.0 00 0.

ABSTRACT The analysis of Tabernaemontana heterophylla seeds entails morphological characterization and the study of genetic variability between batches. This knowledge is fundamental for evolutionary biology and agronomic and conservation practices. Crop productivity, species preservation, reforestation, and post-harvest processing can all benefit from understanding and considering seed size. This work aimed to determine the multidimensional characteristics and mass of the seeds using multivariate cluster analysis. We investigated multidimensional characteristics by measuring the dimensions and mass of the seeds and computing their physical attributes. Several statistical measures were used to assess the morphometric data, including the mean, amplitude, coefficient of variation, relative frequency, arithmetic mean, standard deviation, and confidence interval. In addition, grouping patterns and inter-variable dependencies were examined by multivariate cluster analysis using Ward’s method. The results revealed significant variability in seed dimensions, indicating morphological unevenness in the seeds of this species. Euclidean distance analysis identified the formation of subclusters, implying distinct groupings based on seed size and mass. The finding highlights the significance of segregating lots with similar physical characteristics and defining representative properties for management practices. These variations reflect the genetic diversity required for adaptability and ecological resilience, ensuring forest ecosystems’ survival and proper functioning. Alternatively, classifying and standardizing seed lots based on these physical traits can optimize post-harvest processing and increase agronomic productivity. batches practices productivity preservation reforestation postharvest post harvest attributes data mean amplitude variation frequency deviation interval addition intervariable inter variable Wards Ward s method subclusters resilience ecosystems functioning Alternatively

ABSTRACT The limited temporal completeness and taxonomic accuracy of species lists, made available in a traditional manner in scientific publications, has always represented a problem. These lists are invariably limited to a few taxonomic groups and do not represent up-to-date knowledge of all species and classifications. In this context, the Brazilian megadiverse fauna is no exception, and the Catálogo Taxonômico da Fauna do Brasil (CTFB) (http://fauna.jbrj.gov.br/), made public in 2015, represents a database on biodiversity anchored on a list of valid and expertly recognized scientific names of animals in Brazil. The CTFB is updated in near real time by a team of more than 800 specialists. By January 1, 2024, the CTFB compiled 133,691 nominal species, with 125,138 that were considered valid. Most of the valid species were arthropods (82.3%, with more than 102,000 species) and chordates (7.69%, with over 11,000 species). These taxa were followed by a cluster composed of Mollusca (3,567 species), Platyhelminthes (2,292 species), Annelida (1,833 species), and Nematoda (1,447 species). All remaining groups had less than 1,000 species reported in Brazil, with Cnidaria (831 species), Porifera (628 species), Rotifera (606 species), and Bryozoa (520 species) representing those with more than 500 species. Analysis of the CTFB database can facilitate and direct efforts towards the discovery of new species in Brazil, but it is also fundamental in providing the best available list of valid nominal species to users, including those in science, health, conservation efforts, and any initiative involving animals. The importance of the CTFB is evidenced by the elevated number of citations in the scientific literature in diverse areas of biology, law, anthropology, education, forensic science, and veterinary science, among others. publications problem uptodate up date classifications context exception (CTFB http//fauna.jbrj.gov.br/, httpfaunajbrjgovbr http //fauna.jbrj.gov.br/ , jbrj gov br (http://fauna.jbrj.gov.br/) 2015 Brazil 80 specialists 1 2024 133691 133 691 133,69 125138 125 138 125,13 82.3%, 823 82 3 (82.3% 102000 102 000 102,00 7.69%, 769 7 69 (7.69% 11000 11 11,00 . 3,567 3567 567 (3,56 2,292 2292 2 292 (2,29 1,833 1833 833 (1,83 1,447 1447 447 (1,44 1000 1,00 831 (83 628 (62 606 (60 520 (52 50 users science health biology law anthropology education others http//fauna.jbrj.gov.br/ faunajbrjgovbr //fauna.jbrj.gov.br (http://fauna.jbrj.gov.br/ 201 8 202 13369 13 133,6 12513 12 125,1 82.3% (82.3 10200 10 00 102,0 7.69% 76 6 (7.69 1100 11,0 3,56 356 56 (3,5 2,29 229 29 (2,2 1,83 183 83 (1,8 1,44 144 44 (1,4 100 1,0 (8 62 (6 60 52 (5 5 http//fauna.jbrj.gov.br (http://fauna.jbrj.gov.br 20 1336 133, 1251 125, 82.3 (82. 1020 0 102, 7.69 (7.6 110 11, 3,5 35 (3, 2,2 22 (2, 1,8 18 (1, 1,4 14 4 ( 82.

Abstract This study aimed to evaluate the effect of inoculation with lyophilised and/or activated Lactobacillus buchneri on lactic acid bacteria populations in corn silage. Experimental treatments consisted of corn silage without additives or silage with the inoculants of L. buchneri (1 x 10 5 cfu/g) applied according to the manufacturer’s recommendations (1 g/tonne fodder) in the forms of the lyophilised inoculant and pre-activated inoculant. Purified isolates from corn silage with and without the inoculant were identified, and 93% of the isolates corresponded to the lactic acid bacteria of the species Lactobacillus plantarum. Among the isolates, no bacteria of the species L. buchneri were detected. The application of lyophilised or activated L. buchneri improved the microbiological profile and reduced ethanol production in corn silage, even without being identified among the isolates captured 70 days after ensilage.

ABSTRACT. This study was performed to investigate the effects of composted tannery sludge (CTS) on the physical properties of tropical sandy soil after seven years of CTS application. CTS was applied to a Fluvisol at five rates (0.0, 2.5, 5.0, 10.0, and 20.0 Mg ha-1) in experimental plots (sized 20 m2) with four replications. Water infiltration into the soil was determined in the field with the concentric-ring infiltrometer method. Bulk density, total porosity, macroporosity, and microporosity were determined in the soil samples. The permanent CTS application altered the physical properties of the soil and led to a decrease in bulk density. The total porosity, microporosity and macroporosity values in the CTS-applied soil ranged from 44.1-51.7, 34.6-39.4, and 9.1-12.8%, respectively. Water-infiltration rates were significantly influenced by CTS. The cumulative infiltrated water in the soil varied from 21.3-34.7 cm. The basic infiltration rate was lower in the unamended soil and increased with an increase in the rate of CTS application. This study confirmed that the physical soil parameters improved after the permanent CTS application. Therefore, this application may be a suitable strategy for improving physical soil properties over time. ABSTRACT Objective: To evaluate scientific production on disabled persons with dental care needs over a 20-year period. Material and Methods: The search was conducted in the PubMed database using the MeSH terms “Disabled Persons” AND “Dentistry”. Three researchers selected articles based on readings of the title, abstract and full text. The articles were categorized according to periodical, country, study design, subject and classification of comorbidities and associated disorders. Three hundred ninety-seven articles published in 140 periodicals were included. Results: The periodicals Special Care in Dentistry (54), Dental Clinics of North America (14) and British Dental Journal (14) accounted for 21% of the publications. The studies were conducted in 50 countries, with the United States accounting for 33%. More than half (52%) of the studies had a cross-sectional design. The main subject addressed was oral diagnosis and most of the comorbidities were generalized disabilities. Conclusion: Although a large number of the periodicals have contributed to knowledge building on disabled persons with dental care needs, the number of articles is small compared to other fields of dentistry. Moreover, important gaps in knowledge persist and projects with better methodological designs are needed to offer a more substantial contribution to clinical practice.
