Abstract Background Chagas disease (CD) is a serious public health problem in Latin America. Benznidazole (BNZ) is used for the treatment of CD and, despite its wide use, little information is available about its toxicity and mechanisms of adverse drug reactions (ADR). Objectives To identify and classify clinical and laboratory adverse reactions caused by BNZ in terms of causality and severity. Methods Prospective cohort study from January 2018 to December 2021. Treatment follow-up included visits and biochemical tests (complete blood count, liver and kidney function tests) before, during and after treatment. ADR were classified according to causality and severity. In the statistical analysis, the significance level was set at p<0.05. Results Forty patients with chronic CD were included. A high prevalence of ADR was observed 161 ADR in 30 patients [90%]; of these, 104 (64.6%) were classified as possible and 57 (35.4%) as probable. The ADR were classified as moderate and mild. Of the 40 patients, nine (22.5%) discontinued treatment. ADR associated with treatment discontinuation and interventions were those that affected the dermatological system, central and peripheral nervous system and sense organs such as ageusia. Mild hematological and biochemical changes such as lymphopenia were observed after 30 days of treatment. Conclusion Many patients were able to complete the treatment even with ADR, which can be attributed to the successful follow-up strategy with symptomatic treatment and counseling, leading to patient’s awareness of symptoms and treatment adherence. ABSTRACT BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVES: The mechanisms underlying nociplastic pain, such as fibromyalgia (FM), are not fully understood, however, it is believed that altered sensory processing and pain modulation play prominent roles in the maintenance of nociplastic pain. The hypothesis is that changes in the primary somesthetic cortex (S1) contribute to the generalized pain character of FM. The objective of this study was to evaluate the involvement of the primary somesthetic cortex in humans with fibromyalgia, as well as to investigate possible associations between S1 changes and clinical signs and symptoms of FM. CONTENTS: For this integrative review, the following databases were used: Pubmed and Web of Science, including observational studies carried out in humans with FM. In total, 541 studies were identified and four were included. The majority of studies are case-control studies, published between 2016 and 2022. In total, data from 161 individuals were included in this review. It was identified that there are morphological changes, hyperactivation and increased functional connectivity between S1 and periaqueductal gray matter and between S1 and anterior cingulate cortex. CONCLUSION: Patients with FM present morphological changes and hyperactivation in S1, as well as increased functional connectivity between S1 and periaqueductal gray matter and S1 and limbic system. Furthermore, different bilateral somatotropic subregions (legs, chest, fingers, hands, face and back) showed reduced functional connectivity in patients with FM. These regions are often presented as “tender points” in FM. Porém qualquer arranjo do consorcio dessas culturas aumenta a LER. ABSTRACT The success of intercropping depends on the spatial arrangement between crops, aiming at the best use of the planting area and greater profitability for the farmer. Here, we evaluated the effect of cassava-peanut intercropping on several agronomic parameters. The research was carried out in the APTA experimental area, in the state of São Paulo, Brazil. The experimental design was randomized blocks with four treatments (peanut in monoculture - P; cassava in monoculture - C, cassava intercropped with peanuts planted between rows - CPb, and intercropping in alternating double rows - CPd) and eight replications. The variables analyzed were vegetative growth of cassava plants, soil vegetation cover and weed control, incidence of the main cassava and peanut pests, productivity, and the land equivalent ratio (LER). Only CPb inhibited cassava vegetative growth, significantly affecting its final height. Greater vegetation coverage and, consequently, lower occurrence of weeds, was obtained in CPb in addition to lower incidence of whiteflies in cassava. The intercropping system, regardless of the spatial arrangement used, increased the incidence of the lace bug in cassava and reduced the incidence of peanut pests. Crop productivity was lower in CPd due to the lower planting density of intercrops. However, both intercropping arrangements increased LER. Thus, despite the spatial arrangement of the intercropping system having implied different agronomic responses of the crops, planting peanuts between the cassava rows brought the best agronomic results. crops farmer Here cassavapeanut parameters Paulo Brazil P C replications plants control pests LER . ABSTRACT The limited temporal completeness and taxonomic accuracy of species lists, made available in a traditional manner in scientific publications, has always represented a problem. These lists are invariably limited to a few taxonomic groups and do not represent up-to-date knowledge of all species and classifications. In this context, the Brazilian megadiverse fauna is no exception, and the Catálogo Taxonômico da Fauna do Brasil (CTFB) (http://fauna.jbrj.gov.br/), made public in 2015, represents a database on biodiversity anchored on a list of valid and expertly recognized scientific names of animals in Brazil. The CTFB is updated in near real time by a team of more than 800 specialists. By January 1, 2024, the CTFB compiled 133,691 nominal species, with 125,138 that were considered valid. Most of the valid species were arthropods (82.3%, with more than 102,000 species) and chordates (7.69%, with over 11,000 species). These taxa were followed by a cluster composed of Mollusca (3,567 species), Platyhelminthes (2,292 species), Annelida (1,833 species), and Nematoda (1,447 species). All remaining groups had less than 1,000 species reported in Brazil, with Cnidaria (831 species), Porifera (628 species), Rotifera (606 species), and Bryozoa (520 species) representing those with more than 500 species. Analysis of the CTFB database can facilitate and direct efforts towards the discovery of new species in Brazil, but it is also fundamental in providing the best available list of valid nominal species to users, including those in science, health, conservation efforts, and any initiative involving animals. The importance of the CTFB is evidenced by the elevated number of citations in the scientific literature in diverse areas of biology, law, anthropology, education, forensic science, and veterinary science, among others. publications problem uptodate up date classifications context exception (CTFB http//fauna.jbrj.gov.br/, httpfaunajbrjgovbr http //fauna.jbrj.gov.br/ , jbrj gov br (http://fauna.jbrj.gov.br/) 2015 Brazil 80 specialists 1 2024 133691 133 691 133,69 125138 125 138 125,13 82.3%, 823 82 3 (82.3% 102000 102 000 102,00 7.69%, 769 7 69 (7.69% 11000 11 11,00 . 3,567 3567 567 (3,56 2,292 2292 2 292 (2,29 1,833 1833 833 (1,83 1,447 1447 447 (1,44 1000 1,00 831 (83 628 (62 606 (60 520 (52 50 users science health biology law anthropology education others http//fauna.jbrj.gov.br/ faunajbrjgovbr //fauna.jbrj.gov.br (http://fauna.jbrj.gov.br/ 201 8 202 13369 13 133,6 12513 12 125,1 82.3% (82.3 10200 10 00 102,0 7.69% 76 6 (7.69 1100 11,0 3,56 356 56 (3,5 2,29 229 29 (2,2 1,83 183 83 (1,8 1,44 144 44 (1,4 100 1,0 (8 62 (6 60 52 (5 5 http//fauna.jbrj.gov.br (http://fauna.jbrj.gov.br 20 1336 133, 1251 125, 82.3 (82. 1020 0 102, 7.69 (7.6 110 11, 3,5 35 (3, 2,2 22 (2, 1,8 18 (1, 1,4 14 4 ( 82. Abstract Hypereosinophilia (HE) is defined as an eosinophil count exceeding 1500 cells/microL in peripheral blood in two tests, performed with an interval of at least one month and/or anatomopathological confirmation of HE, with eosinophils comprising more than 20% of all nucleated cells in the bone marrow. Hypereosinophilic syndrome (HES) indicates the presence of HE with organ involvement due to eosinophil action, which can be classified as primary (or neoplastic), secondary (or reactive), and idiopathic. Cardiac involvement occurs in up to 5% of cases in the acute phase and 20% of the chronic phase of the disease, ranging from oligosymptomatic cases to fulminant acute myocarditis or chronic restrictive cardiomyopathy (Loeffler endomyocarditis). However, the degree of cardiac dysfunction does not directly correlate with the degree of eosinophilia. The cardiac involvement of HES occurs in three phases: initial necrotic, thrombotic, and finally necrotic. It can manifest as heart failure, arrhythmias, and thromboembolic phenomena. The diagnosis of cardiopathy is based on multimodality imaging, with an emphasis on the importance of echocardiography (echo) as the primary examination. TTE with enhanced ultrasound agents can be used for better visualization, allowing greater accuracy in assessing ventricular apex, and myocardial deformation indices, such as longitudinal strain, may be reduced, especially in the ventricular apex (reverse apical sparing). Cardiac magnetic resonance imaging allows the characterization of subendocardial late gadolinium enhancement, and endomyocardial biopsy is considered the gold standard in diagnosing cardiopathy. Treatment is based on the etiology of HES. Abstract This study aimed to analyze the physical features and effect of hydroxyapatite (HAp) and Niobium/HAp CaNb2O6/Ca3(PO4)2 composite on critical size defect in rat calvaria. Biomaterials were characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD), X-ray fluorescence (XRF), Particle size distribution (PSD) and Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM). Critical size (8 mm) calvarial defects were created in Wistar rats (n = 24) distributed in three groups (90 days): Control group (CG): critical defect no treatment; HAp group: Hydroxyapatite; CNb/CPO group: CaNb2O6/Ca3(PO4)2 composite. After 90 days, calvaria samples were subjected to histological, and immunohistochemical reactions for osteopontin and osteocalcin, and Micro-CT analyses. XRD analysis confirmed the formation of a crystalline structure of CNb/CPO. XRF measurements confirmed the presence of Nb added in the sample CNb/CPO. Fracture toughness from CNb/CPO composite was 0.82 MPa.m1/2. Micro-CT showed increased trabecular number (p˂0.001), decreased porosities (%) (p˂0.001) and decreased trabecular separation (mm) (p˂0.001) in the CNb/CPO compared to CG group. In CNb/CPO group showed presence of new bone in which connective tissue differentiates to form or indicate a bone matrix score 3 (3-3.75, p˂0.05) and strong immunoexpression of osteopontin (p<0.05). The findings indicate that CNb/CPO showed resistance to the propagation of cracks and stimulated bone formation in calvaria defects in rats. ABSTRACT Objective To analyze vaccination coverage up to 24 months of age according to race/ skin color in the 2017-2018 live birth cohort in Natal, Rio Grande do Norte, Brazil. Methods Population-based survey conducted in 2020 and 2021. Vaccination coverage up to 24 months of age was estimated according to administered, valid and timely doses. Crude association of race/skin color was estimated by calculating the crude Prevalence Ratio and respective 95% Confidence Intervals, using Poisson regression. Results Of the 688 children in the selected cohort, there was greater coverage among Black children for administered doses (White 30.5%; Black 47.8%; 95%CI) and valid doses (White 25.8%; Black 40.1%; 95%CI), although without statistical significance, and lower coverage for timely doses, in the full schedule excluding yellow fever (PR = 0.21; 95%CI 0.04;0.90). Conclusion There was lower timely coverage among Black children compared to White children.

SUMMARY: The COVID-19 pandemic caused several changes in the teaching of human anatomy, among them the use of different teaching methodologies based on E-learning. However, studies evaluating electronic tools have not provided clear evidence of effective student learning. Thus, this was the first study to evaluate medical students after completing human anatomy courses in the E- learning modality. We recruited first term (Group A, n=25) and second term (Group B, n=13) medical students. We applied a practical assessment based on 50 human anatomy markingson real anatomical specimens and cadavers, to be completed in Questionnaire 01 (Phase I). After detecting low scores on Questionnaire 01 by both groups, we applied a practical and face-to-face tutoring system for 14 days (Phase II). Afterwards, we re-evaluated both groups by repeating the same scores (Questionnaire 02, Phase III). According to the paired analysis of questionnaires 01 and 02 by Student's T-test, both groups showed significant increase in the final scores obtained in questionnaire 02 (Phase III). The evidence showed that the remote format lecture system weakened the learning and retention process of basic anatomical knowledge by medical students. On the other hand, in-person practical teaching proved to be efficient in the formative process of the students, a fact proven by the significant increase in the scores of the students in the 02 questionnaire, for both groups.

ABSTRACT Introduction: With the development of society, the concept of quality has become essential within health care organizations. However, little is known about the impact of the structural component of the Donabedian model on the quality of care provided by the Specialist Nurses in Rehabilitation Nursing. The purpose of this study is to identify and analysis the factors related to the quality of rehabilitation nursing care in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation Units in the light of the Donabedian model in the structure dimension. Methodology: Case study of a qualitative nature. We used a non-probability convenience sample, with all participants being RNs from the same service. Data were collected through a semi-structured interview, composed of eight open-ended questions and a set of eight questions for socio-demographic and professional characterization. In data analysis, we used the guidelines for content analysis proposed by Bardin (2009) using the Atlas.ti software. Results and Discussion: From the analysis of the speeches of the 16 participants, in light of the Donabedian model in the thematic area Structure, the following categories emerged: people management and leadership in the service and physical environment and conditions for the functioning of nursing practices. The Donabedian model supported the discussion in conjunction with other references. We found discrepancies in the participants' discourses, specifically regarding the work methodologies and workload distribution related to rehabilitation nursing care. The work method emerges as a hampering contribution for some nurses, while, for others, it is an added value for the accountability of the autonomous practices developed. Conclusion: We can conclude that the nurses identify facilitating and complicating factors within the structure of the service, which interfere with the quality of care.

Abstract Introduction Clinical assessment in orofacial motricity is required for the speech therapist to diagnose and treat disorders involving the stomatognathic system. Validated tools can help establish a prognosis and outline intervention methods connected to human development. Objective The goal of the present study was to examine the domains of the oromyofunctional assessment of nursing infants and preschoolers according to sex and age group, as well as the application of the MMBGR Protocol – Nursing Infants and Preschool Children. Methods A quantitative technique was used to conduct an analytical and cross-sectional investigation. The present study included a total of 214 healthy breastfeeding infants and preschoolers of both sexes. The Mann-Whitney test was used to compare the medians. The Spearman correlation of each test domain was determined. R Core Team 2021 (R Foundation, Vienna, Austria) was used, and the significance threshold was set at 5%. Results In intraoral and extraoral examinations, there was a difference between sexes for tongue scores in nursing infants(d =-0.428; p = 0.045), worse in males. When the orofacial functions were considered in nursing infants, there were differences between the sexes for the liquid/solid/semisolid deglutition scores (d = 0.479; p = 0.031), with females performing worse. There were sex differences in solid/semisolid deglutition (d = -0.335; p = 0.043), and speech in preschoolers (d = - 0.478; p = 0.034), including the production of phones/phonemes (d = - 0.599; p = 0.007), which were always worse in males. Conclusion The research revealed sex disparities and related the domains of oromyofunctional assessment, according to scores, of the domains of myofunctional assessment, as recorded in a standardized oromyofunctional assessment protocol by age group. system development group Children crosssectional cross sectional investigation 21 MannWhitney Mann Whitney medians determined 202 Foundation Vienna Austria 5 5% examinations infantsd d =0.428 0428 0.428 0 428 =-0.428 0.045, 0045 0.045 , 045 0.045) males liquidsolidsemisolid liquid solid semisolid 0.479 0479 479 0.031, 0031 0.031 031 0.031) solidsemisolid 0.335 0335 335 -0.335 0.043, 0043 0.043 043 0.043) 0.478 0478 478 0.034, 0034 0.034 034 0.034) phonesphonemes phones phonemes 0.599 0599 599 0.007, 0007 0.007 007 0.007) 2 20 =0.42 042 0.42 42 =-0.42 004 0.04 04 0.47 047 47 003 0.03 03 0.33 033 33 -0.33 0.59 059 59 000 0.00 00 =0.4 0.4 4 =-0.4 0.0 0.3 3 -0.3 0.5 05 =0. 0. =-0. -0. =0 =-0 -0 =-

Abstract This study aimed to evaluate the contribution of oral and maxillofacial pathology laboratories (OMPLs) in Brazilian public universities to the diagnosis of lip, oral cavity, and oropharyngeal squamous cell carcinoma (SCC). A cross-sectional study was performed using biopsy records from a consortium of sixteen public OMPLs from all regions of Brazil (North, Northeast, Central-West, Southeast, and South). Clinical and demographic data of patients diagnosed with lip, oral cavity, and oropharyngeal SCC between 2010 and 2019 were collected from the patients’ histopathological records. Of the 120,010 oral and maxillofacial biopsies (2010-2019), 6.9% (8,321 cases) were diagnosed as lip (0.8%, 951 cases), oral cavity (4.9%, 5,971 cases), and oropharyngeal (1.2%, 1,399 cases) SCCs. Most cases were from Brazil’s Southeast (64.5%), where six of the OMPLs analyzed are located. The predominant profile of patients with lip and oral cavity SCC was Caucasian men, with a mean age over 60 years, low schooling level, and a previous history of heavy tobacco consumption. In the oropharyngeal group, the majority were non-Caucasian men, with a mean age under 60 years, had a low education level, and were former/current tobacco and alcohol users. According to data from the Brazilian National Cancer Institute, approximately 9.9% of the total lip, oral cavity, and oropharyngeal SCCs reported over the last decade in Brazil may have been diagnosed at the OMPLs included in the current study. Therefore, this data confirms the contribution of public OMPLs with respect to the important diagnostic support they provide to the oral healthcare services extended by the Brazilian Public Health System. Abstract BACKGROUND: The burnout syndrome can be avoided and/or have its signs and symptoms reduced by knowing the five associated factors that help identify the health and working conditions of the professors of graduate programs. OBJECTIVE: To analyze the factors associated with burnout among faculty members of graduate stricto sensu programs. DESIGN AND SETTING: A cross-sectional study was conducted among 585 faculty members of Graduate Programs in Language Teaching and Linguistics in Brazil. METHODS: Data were collected through an online questionnaire. The outcomes were the dimensions of burnout and its related factors identified through multiple templates of logistic regression. RESULTS: Faculty members with increased chances of emotional exhaustion and depersonalization mentioned the use of medications due to labor activities. The negative influence of pace and intensity of work, thoughts about quitting the program, and having to produce three or more scientific articles were associated with higher chances of emotional exhaustion, while having to achieve nine hours per week in undergraduate programs was related to reduced personal accomplishment. Having a conjugal relationship, satisfaction with health and work, post-doctoral degree, autonomy, and good interpersonal relationships with faculty members of the program reduced the chances of emotional exhaustion. Reduced chances of depersonalization occurred among those who were satisfied with work, had good interpersonal relationships with advisees and faculty members, and received productivity funding. CONCLUSION: Sociodemographic, health, and occupational factors related to the dimensions of burnout were identified. BACKGROUND andor OBJECTIVE SETTING crosssectional cross sectional 58 Brazil METHODS questionnaire regression RESULTS activities work accomplishment relationship postdoctoral post doctoral degree autonomy funding CONCLUSION Sociodemographic 5
