Abstract The present study evaluated the effect of the taper angle of different internal conical connection implants and cyclic loading on the implant-abutment bacterial seal. A total of 96 implant-abutment sets were divided into eight groups. Four groups of different taper degrees with cyclic mechanical loading of 500,000 cycles per sample, with a 120-N load at 2 Hz before analysis [16DC (16-degree, cycled), 11.5DC (11.5-degree, cycled), 3DC (3- degree, cycled) and 4DC (4- degree, cycled)] were compared to four control groups without cyclic loading [16D (16-degree), 11.5D (11.5-degree), 3D (3-degree), and 4D (4-degree)]. Microbiological analysis was performed by immersing all samples in a suspension containing Escherichia coli and incubating them at 37°C. After 14 days, the presence of bacterial seals was evaluated. Fisher-Freeman-Halton exact tests and binomial tests were performed (5% significance level). The groups showed significant differences in bacterial seal, and mechanical load cycling improved the bacterial seal in the 3DC group. In all other groups, no significant differences in bacterial seal were found between cycled and uncycled samples. To conclude, the internal conical connection with a 3-degree taper angle showed better results than the other connection with different angles when subjected to load cycling. RESUMO Objetivo: Avaliar a influência das diferentes angulações internas de conexões protéticas cônicas em próteses parciais fixas de três elementos, em relação a distribuição de tensões no osso cortical e medular adjacente, também como nos implantes e componentes protéticos através do método dos elementos finitos. Métodos: Foram analisados de forma quantitativa e qualitativa, através do método de elementos finitos, as tensões de tração, compressão e cisalhamento no osso cortical e medular, e tensões de von Misses nos implantes e componentes protéticos de dois implantes, um com conexão cônica de 11.5 graus e o outro de 16 graus. Ambos em prótese múltipla de três elementos. Resultados: Na análise quantitativa, tanto no osso cortical quanto no medular, os picos de tensão nas forças de tração, compressão, e de cisalhamento foram maiores para o grupo CM16, se comparado ao CM11,5, exceto a força de cisalhamento do osso cortical, que obteve valores muito próximos em ambos os grupos. Ao se analisar qualitativamente, os ossos corticais e medulares apresentaram um maior stress ao redor da plataforma dos implantes com incidência maior no implante na região do molar. Na análise von Misses em ambos os grupos, as tensões concentraram-se na região cervical dos implantes, nas primeiras roscas, nas regiões de pré-molar e molar. No que diz respeito aos pilares protéticos, a concentração de tensões foi localizada na região de contato com o implante. Conclusão: Podemos concluir que conforme o ângulo da interface implante-pilar aumenta, ocorre uma incidência maior de tensões em todas as áreas envolvidas nesse estudo.

ABSTRACT Objective: Evaluate the biomechanical behavior of the influence of different internal angles of conical prosthetic connections in fixed partial prostheses of three elements, through the tridimensional finite element method. Methods: Two different models of segment of the posterior portion of the mandible, with two implants with conical connections at angulations of 11.5 and 16 degrees. Afterwards, and occlusal load of 180N was used, and divided into 2 points of application on the premolar, and 400N divided into 5 points of application on the molar. Data were acquired as the tensile, compressive and shear stresses on cortical and medullary bone, and von Mises stresses on implants and prosthetic components of two implants in both in three-unit fixed partial prosthesis. In the quantitative analysis, both in cortical and medullary bone, the tension peaks in tensile, compression, and shear forces were higher for the CM16 group. Results: When analyzing qualitatively, the cortical and medullary bones presented a greater stress around the implant platform with a higher incidence in the implant in the molar region. In the von Misses analysis in both groups, the tensions were concentrated in the cervical region of the implants, in the first threads, in the premolar and molar regions. Regarding prosthetic pillars, the stress concentration was located in the region of contact with the implant. Conclusion: The increased angulation of conicity of the internal conical connections represents a determinant factor to increase in stress concentration in the implants, prosthetic components and adjacent structures, such as the cortical and medullary bone.

Resumo O objetivo deste estudo foi comparar clínica e radiograficamente implantes extra curtos e padrões. Quarenta e dois implantes foram instalados em 10 pacientes selecionados. Eles receberam carga protética somente após o tempo de espera convencional para a osseointegração e as próteses foram feitas ferulizadas. As imagens radiográficas foram realizadas para avaliar as perdas ósseas verticais e horizontais nos tempos T1 (instalação protética), T2 (6 meses de acompanhamento) e T3 (12 meses de acompanhamento). Parâmetros biológicos como nível ósseo ao redor dos implantes (CBL) foram avaliados, alteração CBL (CBLC), comprimento total da coroa (TCL) e relação implante / coroa (ICR) foram calculados digitalmente. Todos os implantes incluídos no estudo foram submetidos à análise do quociente de estabilidade do implante (ISQ) no momento da instalação do implante (T0) e aos 12 meses de função protética (T3). Os dados foram testados estatisticamente. A ICR foi maior no grupo teste do que no grupo controle (p<0,0001). As medidas de CBL no início do estudo foram de 0,21±0,19 mm e 0,32±0,38 mm e em 12 meses 0,65±0,24 mm e 0,87±0,34 mm, respectivamente nos grupos teste e controle. CBLCs e CBL foram semelhantes em todos os momentos (p>0,05). Não foi encontrada correlação entre os parâmetros CBLC e ICR, bem como entre o ISQ e o comprimento do implante. Podemos concluir que padrões e implantes extra curtos podem fornecer resultados clínicos semelhantes na reabilitação protética da mandíbula atrófica ao longo de 12 meses de acompanhamento.

Abstract The aim of this study was to clinically and radiographically compare extra short and standards implants. Forty-two implants were installed in 10 selected patients. They received prosthetic loading only after the conventional waiting time for osseointegration and the prostheses were made ferulized. Radiographic shots were performed to evaluate vertical and horizontal bone losses at times T1 (prosthetic installation), T2 (6 months follow-up) and T3 (12 months follow-up). Biological parameters such as bone level around the implants (CBL) were evaluated, CBL alteration (CBLC), total crown length (TCL) and implant/crown ratio (ICR) were digitally calculated. All implants included in the study were submitted to the analysis of the implant stability quotient (ISQ) at the time of implant installation (T0) and at 12 months of prosthetic function (T3). Data were statistically tested. The ICR was higher in the test group than in the control group (p<0.0001). The CBL measurements at the beginning of the study were 0.21±0.19 mm and 0.32±0.38 mm and at 12 months 0.65±0.24 mm and 0.87±0.34 mm, respectively in the test and control groups. CBLCs and CBL were similar at all times (p>0.05). No correlation was found between CBLC and ICR parameters, as well as between ISQ and implant length. We may conclude that standards and extra short implants can provide similar clinical results in prosthetic rehabilitation of the atrophic jaw over 12 months of follow-up.

RESUMO Objetivo: Avaliar a eficácia de duas formulações de alprazolam (ALP) na sedação de voluntários submetidos à procedimentos cirúrgicos de Implantodontia. Métodos: Foi realizado um estudo clinico, randomizado e cego, com 52 voluntários (ambos os gêneros) que foram divididos em 2 grupos: G1 (n=26) - administração de ALP (0,5mg) por via oral uma hora antes da sessão clínica; e G2 (n=26) - administração de ALP (0,5mg) por via sublingual 30 minutos antes da sessão clínica. Foram avaliadas a pressão arterial (PA) e frequência cardíaca (FC), e foram utilizadas a escala de ansiedade dental de Corah (COR) e escala analógica visual (EAV) para avaliação do nível de ansiedade. Adicionalmente, foram utilizados o teste de Trieger (TRI) e um questionário de percepção (QP) para avaliar as respostas aos tratamentos. Todos os parâmetros foram avaliados em 3 momentos (pré, trans e pós-operatório imediato). Resultados: Para PA e FC não foram observadas diferenças estatísticas significativas entre os períodos para G1 e G2 (p>0,05). Para COR, a maioria dos voluntários foi classificada como ansiosos ou muitos ansiosos em ambos os grupos (p>0,05), e para EAV a diminuição da ansiedade foi significativa (p<0,05) e não houve diferença estatistica significativa entre os dois grupos tanto no período “pré” (p=0,18) quanto no “pós” (p=0,12). Para TRI, não houve diferença significativa entre os períodos pré e pós considerando o número de pontos perdidos (p>0,05). Quanto ao QP, ambas as formulações tiveram boa aceitabilidade pelos voluntários (p>0,05), não ocorrendo amnésia anterógrada. Conclusão: Concluiu-se que ambas as formulações de alprazolam foram eficazes para a sedação dos voluntários avaliados.

ABSTRACT Objective: The aim of this study was to evaluate the efficacy of two formulations of alprazolam (ALP) in patients undergoing oral implantology surgical procedures. Methods: A single-blinded randomized clinical study was performed with 52 volunteers (both genders) divided into 2 groups: G1 (n = 26) – oral administration of ALP (0.5 mg) 1h before surgical procedures; and G2 (n = 26) – sublingual administration of ALP (0.5mg) 30 minutes before surgery. Blood pressure (BP) and heart rate (HR) were evaluated. Corah dental anxiety scale (COR), visual analogic scale (VAS), Trieger test (TRI) and the perception questionnaire (PQ) were used to assess the level of anxiety and responses to formulations, respectively. All parameters were evaluated at three times (be-fore, during and postoperative). Results: For BP and HR no statistically significant differences were observed between periods for G1 and G2 (p> 0.05). For COR, most volunteers were classi-fied such as anxious or very anxious. For VAS, decreased anxiety was significant (p< 0.05) and no statistically significant differences between the two groups both in the period “pre” (p= 0.18) and “post” (p= 0.12) were observed. For TRI, there were no significant differences between the periods considering the number of points lost (p> 0.05). The anxiety reduction was significant (p< 0.05) for both formulations. As for PQ, both formulations showed good volunteers’ acceptance (p> 0.05), and they have not reported anterograde amnesia. Conclusion: It was concluded that both formulations were effective for sedation of the evaluated volunteers.

Resumo Introdução Quando os níveis de tensão e compressão gerados no sistema osso-implante excederem a capacidade óssea ocorre uma fadiga mecânica, resultando em colapso e perda da osseointegração. Objetivo Analisar o comportamento biomecânico em próteses unitárias implanto-suportadas com implantes de diferentes diâmetros na região posterior de mandíbula. Material e método Foram criados três modelos de elementos finitos de implantes cone-Morse de mesmo comprimento, variando-se o diâmetro: 3,3 mm, 4,1 mm e 4,8 mm. A localização do implante foi a região de primeiro molar inferior, com componente e coroa protética sobrejacentes. A mandíbula foi composta por osso cortical e medular. Foi criada malha refinada de 0,5 mm nas interfaces criticas a serem analisadas. O carregamento dos modelos foi realizado nos pontos de contatos oclusais, com uma carga oclusal de 400 N. Resultado Tensão e deformação máximas ocorreram nas regiões cervicais dos implantes em todos os grupos, tanto na análise dos implantes e componentes quanto na análise do osso cortical. Quanto maior foi o diâmetro, menores foram tensão e deformação encontradas no implante. O grupo 3,3 mm apresentou a maior deformação em osso cortical periimplantar, tendo o grupo 4,1 mm a menor deformação, significantemente menor em relação ao grupo 4,8 mm. Conclusão Apesar de o implante de maior diâmetro (4,8 mm) ter apresentado os menores valores de tensão e deformação, o grupo do implante de diâmetro intermediário (4,1 mm) mostrou menor taxa de deformação em osso cortical periimplantar. Portanto conclui-se que o implante de plataforma 4,1 mm apresentou-se mais efetivo biomecanicamente para manutenção óssea periimplantar.

Abstract Introduction When stress and strain levels in the bone-implant system exceed It's capacity, a mechanical fatigue occurs, resulting in collapse and loss of osseointegration. Objective Analyze biomechanical behavior in single implant-supported prosthesis with implants of different diameters in the posterior mandible. Material and method Three different finite element models of Cone-Morse implants with the same height were created, varying the diameter (3.3 mm, 4.1 mm and 4.8 mm). The mandibular first molar area was the location of the implant, with It´s component and overlying prosthetic crown. The jawbone was composed of cortical and cancellous bone. Refined mesh of 0.5 mm was created in the critical interfaces to be analyzed. The loading of the models was performed at the point of occlusal contact with an occlusal load of 400 N. Result Maximum stress and strain occurred in the cervical regions of the implants in all groups, either in the implants or in components as well as in the analysis of cortical bone. The greater the diameter, the lower the stress and strain found in the implant. The 3.3 mm group had the highest strain in peri-implant cortical bone, and the 4.1 mm group had the smallest deformation, significantly lower than in the 4.8 mm group. Conclusion Although the biggest implant diameter (4.8 mm) appears to have lower values of stress and strain, the group of intermediate implant diameter (4.1 mm) showed less deformation rate in the cortical peri-implant bone. Therefore it is concluded that the 4.1 mm implant platform presented a more biomechanically effective peri-implant bone maintenance.

An important parameter for the clinical success of dental implants is the formation of direct contact between the implant and surrounding bone, whose quality is directly influenced by the implant surface roughness. A screw-shaped design and a surface with an average roughness of Sa of 1-2 µm showed a better result. The combination of blasting and etching has been a commonly used surface treatment technique. The versatility of this type of treatment allows for a wide variation in the procedures in order to obtain the desired roughness. OBJECTIVES: To compare the roughness values and morphological characteristics of 04 brands of implants, using the same type of surface treatment. In addition, to compare the results among brands, in order to assess whether the type of treatment determines the values and the characteristics of implant surface roughness. MATERIAL AND METHODS: Three implants were purchased directly from each selected company in the market, i.e., 03 Brazilian companies (Biomet 3i of Brazil, Neodent and Titaniumfix) and 01 Korean company (Oneplant). The quantitative or numerical characterization of the roughness was performed using an interferometer. The qualitative analysis of the surface topography obtained with the treatment was analyzed using scanning electron microscopy images. RESULTS: The evaluated implants showed a significant variation in roughness values: Sa for Oneplant was 1.01 µm; Titaniumfix reached 0.90 µm; implants from Neodent 0.67 µm, and Biomet 3i of Brazil 0.53 µm. Moreover, the SEM images showed very different patterns for the surfaces examined. CONCCLUSIONS: The surface treatment alone is not able to determine the roughness values and characteristics.

A fim de verificar se a lubrificação do parafuso do pilar pode gerar valores maiores de pré-carga do que nos parafusos não lubrificados, um pilar de titânio foi parafusado no análogo do implante e escaneado pelo Sistema Procera para gerar 20 pilares de zircônia. Depois, os implantes MKIII Brånemark foram presos num dispositivo de torque. Os pilares foram distribuídos em grupos seco e úmido com 10 amostras cada. No grupo úmido, as roscas internas dos implantes foram preenchidas com saliva artificial. Então, todos os pilares foram apertados com parafuso Torqtite a 32 Ncm. Dez medidas de destorque foram realizadas por grupo apertando-se o botão reverso do Torque Controller logo depois do parafusamento, e os valores foram registrados. As medias de destorque foram calculadas e comparadas pelo teste t de Student (?=0,05). Os valores médios obtidos nas condições seca e úmida foram 27,5 ± 1,5 Ncm e 31,7 ± 1,2 Ncm, respectivamente. Diferenças estatisticamente significantes foram observadas (p=0,0000024). Observou-se sempre existir uma perda do torque inicial quando o torque de remoção é mensurado em ambas as condições. A condição úmida demonstrou um valor médio maior de torque do que a condição seca. Valores melhores de pré-carga podem ser estabelecidos no grupo úmido, sugerindo que o parafuso do pilar deve ser lubrificado em saliva para evitar seu afrouxamento.

The aim of this study was to verify whether screw abutment lubrication can generate higher preload values compared to non-lubricated screws, a titanium abutment was screwed onto an implant analog and scanned with the Procera System to generate 20 zirconia abutments. MKIII Brånemark implants were clamped to a precision torque device, and the abutments were distributed in dry and wet groups with 10 specimens each. In the wet groups, the inner threads of the implants were filled with artificial saliva. All abutments were fastened with a Torqtite screw under 32 Ncm. Ten detorque measurements were performed per group pushing the reverse button of the Torque controller soon after screw tightening with values registered. The mean detorque values were calculated and compared by a Student's t test (?=0.05). The wet condition presented significantly higher mean detorque than the dry condition (31.5 ± 1.2 versus 27.5 ± 1.5 Ncm, respectively; p=0.0000024). In conclusion, there was always a loss in the initial torque values when the removal torque was measured under both conditions. The wet condition presented higher mean torque than the dry condition. Better preload values were established in the wet group, suggesting that the abutment screw must be lubricated in saliva to avoid further loosening.

OBJETIVO: este trabalho apresenta um método para expansão ortopédica da maxila, na dentadura permanente, utilizando implantes como ancoragem. METODOLOGIA: detalharam-se os procedimentos cirúrgicos e laboratoriais da confecção de um expansor com ancoragem dento-óssea em crânio seco humano. Dois implantes de titânio foram colocados na região anterior do palato, e o parafuso Hyrax adaptado de modo que a expansão ancorou-se nos implantes e nos primeiros molares permanentes. RESULTADOS: o experimento laboratorial em crânio seco mostrou que o procedimento apresenta-se anatômica e operacionalmente viável. Os implantes suportaram a força gerada pela ativação do parafuso expansor, redundando na separação transversal das hemimaxilas. CONCLUSÕES: vislumbra-se que a expansão rápida da maxila ancorada em implantes (ERMAI) poderá potencializar a eficiência da expansão ortopédica, assim como reduzir o custo periodontal dos procedimentos convencionais de expansão. Futuros estudos clínicos são necessários para testar essas hipóteses.

AIM: This study presents a method for maxillary orthopedic expansion, in the permanent dentition, using implants as anchorage. METHODS: Surgical and laboratorial procedures for the construction of a tooth-bone-borne expansor was detailed in a human dry skull. Two titanium implants were placed in the anterior region of the palate and a Hyrax screw was adapted in a way that the expansion was anchored both on the palatal implants and on permanent first molars. RESULTS: The laboratorial experiment in dry skull showed that the procedure is operationally and anatomically possible. The implants supported the force generated by the expansion screw activation and the maxilla halves were transversally split. CONCLUSIONS: Rapid maxillary expansion anchored on implants can increase the efficiency of orthopedic expansion and decrease the periodontal sequela caused by conventional RME. Further clinical studies are necessary to verify these hypotheses.

Este trabalho se propôs a avaliar a performance clínica de dois tipos de cerâmica: IPS Empress, Ivoclar-Vivadent - IPS e Duceram Plus, Degussa - D. Foram realizadas 86 restaurações por apenas um operador, sendo 44 IPS e 42 D. Vinte e sete pré-molares e 59 molares, num total de 33 onlays e 53 inlays, foram cimentadas em 35 pacientes de ambos os sexos, com idade média de 35 anos. A cimentação das restaurações foi realizada com cimento resinoso dual (Variolink, Ivoclar-Vivadent) sob isolamento absoluto e avaliadas no baseline e após 06 meses, mediante o critério U.S.P.H.S. modificado, quanto à sensibilidade pulpar, reincidência de cárie, fratura, reprodução de cor, descoloração marginal, integridade marginal e textura superficial. Adicionalmente foram realizadas radiografias e fotografias. No baseline foi obtida a classificação Bravo nos itens sensibilidade pulpar - IPS (2,27%); D (7,14%); reprodução de cor - IPS (2,27%); D (2,38%) e textura superficial - IPS (2,27%); D (11,90%). Após 06 meses foram analisadas as 86 restaurações, nas quais foi constatada a classificação Bravo para os itens reprodução de cor - IPS (6,82%); D (2,38%); textura superficial - IPS (2,27%); D (9,52%); descoloração marginal - IPS (6,82%); D (4,76%) e integridade de superfície- IPS (4,55%); D (7,14%). Os resultados obtidos foram submetidos ao Teste Estatístico de Fisher e McNemar. Não houve diferença estatisticamente significante entre as cerâmicas. Pode-se concluir que os dois tipos de cerâmica demonstraram uma performance clínica satisfatória após 06 meses.

The aim of the present study was to evaluate the clinical performance of two types of ceramics: a slurry-powder ceramic (Duceram Plus, Degussa) - D and a hot-pressed leucite-based glass-ceramic (IPS Empress, Ivoclar Vivadent) - IPS. Eighty-six restorations, 44 IPS and 42 D, were made by one operator. A total of 33 onlays and 53 inlays on twenty-seven premolars and 59 molars were cemented in 35 patients of both sexes, mean age 35 years. All restorations were cemented with the dual-resin cement (Variolink, Ivoclar-Vivadent) under rubber dam and were evaluated at the baseline and after six months, using the modified U.S.P.H.S. criteria for postoperative sensitivity, secondary caries, fracture, color match, marginal discoloration, marginal integrity and surface texture. Additionally radiographs and intraoral photographs were carried out. At baseline 86 restorations were analyzed and all of them received Alfa rating, except for the following that received Bravo rating for postoperative sensitivity - IPS (2.27%); D (7.14%); for color match - IPS (2.27%); D (2.38%) and for surface texture - IPS (2.27%); D (11.90%). After 6 months 100% of the restorations were analyzed and the following received Bravo rating: color match - IPS (4.55%) and D (9.52%); surface texture - IPS (2.27%) and D (11.9%); marginal discoloration - IPS (6.82%) and D (4.76%) and marginal integrity - IPS (4.55%) and D (7.14%). The results were submitted to the Fisher and McNemar Statistical Tests. No significant differences were noticed between the two ceramics. Both ceramics demonstrated satisfactory clinical performance after six months.

O objetivo desta pesquisa foi avaliar in vitro a compatibilidade entre as resinas compostas Herculite XR, Z100, AP.H e os diferentes adesivos XR-Bond, Scotchbond MP e PUB 3, uma vez que, por uma série de motivos, é muito freqüente na prática clínica do cirurgião-dentista a utilização de resina e adesivo de marcas comerciais diferentes. Utilizou-se um dispositivo constituído de base e matriz, as quais, quando justapostas, apresentavam uma cavidade em forma de halteres que recebeu a resina composta. Inicialmente, confeccionaram-se 45 meio-espécimes de cada resina. Após uma semana armazenados em água destilada a 37ºC, os meio-espécimes foram reposicionados na matriz para confecção da segunda metade e divididos em grupos de modo a combinar cada resina com cada um dos três adesivos. Armazenaram-se os espécimes em água destilada a 37ºC por 7 dias e procedeu-se ao teste de tração na máquina Kratos. Concluiu-se que: de forma geral, as interações entre as resinas e os adesivos testados mostraram-se compatíveis; a combinação AP.H/XR-Bond apresentou a maior discrepância, pois a resistência à tração foi estatisticamente inferior à associação original proposta pelo fabricante; as demais combinações entre os adesivos e as resinas testadas apresentaram resistência à tração estatisticamente semelhantes ou superiores à associação recomendada pelo fabricante.

The aim of this work was to evaluate the in vitro compatibility between some composite resins (Herculite XR, Z100 and AP.H) and different adhesives (XR-Bond, Scotchbond MP and PUB3), since for various reasons, the utilization of composite resins and adhesives from different commercial brands is very frequent in the dental practice. We used a device constituted of a base and a matrix which, when juxtaposed, showed a cavity in dumbbell shape which received the composite resin. Firstly, 45 half-specimens of each composite resin were made and stored in distilled water at 37ºC for one week. Then, they were replaced in the matrix for the building of the second half and divided into groups to combine each composite resin with each one of the three adhesives. The specimens were stored in distilled water at 37ºC and after the period of 7 days they were submitted to the tensile strength test in a Kratos machine. It was concluded that: generally, the composite resins and the adhesives showed to be compatible; the combination AP.H/XR-Bond showed the highest discrepancy, since the tensile strength was statistically smaller than that of the combination proposed by the manufacturer; the other combinations of the adhesives and the composite resins showed tensile strengths statistically similar to or greater than that of the combination recommended by the manufacturer.

A liberação de flúor de quatro cimentos de ionômero de vidro usados para restauração— Photac Fil (PF), Vitremer (VT), Fuji II LC (F2) e Fuji IX (F9) — foi testada durante 14 dias. As leituras do flúor liberado para água deionizada foram realizadas por um eletrodo específico para esse íon, acoplado a um analisador de pH/íons. Os dados foram submetidos a análise de variância e teste de Tukey-Kramer. A quantidade de flúor liberada foi significantemente maior para o PF em relação aos outros materiais (PF > VT > F9 > F2), sendo que VT/F9 e F2/F9 não apresentaram diferença significante entre si (p < 0,05).

The fluoride release of four restorative glass-ionomer cements — Photac Fil (PF), Vitremer (VT), Fuji II LC (F2) and Fuji IX (F9) — was compared during 14 days. The readings of the fluoride released to deionized water were done by means of a fluoride ion selective electrode and an ion analyzer. Data were analyzed by one-way ANOVA and Tukey's test. The amount of fluoride released from PF was significantly higher than that from the other materials (PF > VT > F9 > F2). There was no significant difference between VT and F9, nor between F2 and F9 (p < 0.05)

O objetivo deste estudo foi verificar a resistência à remoção por tração e a infiltração marginal de coroas totais fundidas cimentadas com cimento de ionômero de vidro, em dentes reconstruídos com duas formulações de cimento de ionômero de vidro, ou seja, Cermet e "mistura milagrosa", em comparação às coroas totais cimentadas em dentes com preparo para coroa total (sem reconstrução). Foram selecionados trinta molares superiores recém-extraídos, dez para cada condição experimental. Uma liga do sistema prata/estanho (M3) foi utilizada para obtenção das coroas totais. As amostras foram submetidas a ciclagens térmicas nas temperaturas de 5ºC, 37ºC e 55ºC, por sessenta minutos, durante sete dias. Para a última ciclagem térmica, foi utilizado o corante Rhodamina B a 0,1%, em solução aquosa. A seguir, as amostras foram lavadas e mantidas em condições ambientais por vinte e quatro horas, para serem levadas à máquina de ensaios universal, para os testes de remoção por tração axial. A análise de variância mostrou diferença estatisticamente significante, no nível de 5%, dos dentes sem reconstrução (controle), com relação aos dentes reconstruídos com "mistura milagrosa" e dentes reconstruídos com Cermet. Os dentes sem reconstrução apresentaram maior média aos testes de resistência por tração. Verificou-se, pela comparação individual entre as condições avaliadas, que o grupo reconstruído com "mistura milagrosa" e Cermet não mostrou diferença estatisticamente significante. Da mesma forma, foram elaboradas comparações individuais entre as condições avaliadas dos escores de infiltração, em que se pôde observar que houve significância entre os grupos de "mistura milagrosa" e Cermet com o grupo controle (dentes sem reconstrução). The aim of this work was to measure tensile strength and microleakage of full cast crowns cemented on built-up cores using two formulations of glass-ionomer cement, Cermet and "miracle-mix", as compared to full cast crowns cemented exclusively on tooth structure. Thirty freshly extracted upper molars were selected, ten for each experimental condition. An alloy of the silver/tin system (M3) was employed to obtain the full crowns. The samples were thermocycled at 5ºC, 37ºC and 55ºC, for 60 minutes, during 7 days. For the last thermal cycle, 1% Rhodamine B aqueous solution dye was used. After that, the samples were washed and kept at room temperature for 24 hours, and taken to a universal testing machine for testing. The data were analyzed by parametric and non parametric statistical methods and the following conclusions were drawn: 1 - there was a statistically significant difference in removal resistance of cemented full crowns under the various conditions; 2 - the crowns cemented on the "miracle-mix" and Cermet reconstructed teeth showed statistically significant lower removal resistances than controls (teeth which had not been reconstructed); 3 - no statistically significant difference was found comparing teeth reconstructed either with "miracle-mix" or Cermet; 4 - no statistically significant differences were found between microleakage patterns in teeth rebuilt with the "miracle-mix" and with Cermet; 5 - statistically significant differences were found between microleakage patterns in teeth rebuilt with "miracle-mix" and Cermet cores as compared to the non reconstructed group (control)
