Resumo: Este trabalho apresenta os resultados do estudo Eu Quero é Mais! A Vida de Profissionais do Sexo Durante a Pandemia da COVID-19, integrante do programa de investigação comunitária EPIC. O estudo analisou os efeitos da pandemia nas vidas de trabalhadoras sexuais cis, trans e travestis em nove Unidades da Federação e 11 cidades brasileiras ao longo de 2020 e 2021. O artigo tem como foco o componente qualitativo do estudo baseado em entrevistas semiestruturadas realizadas de forma presencial e remota com 43 trabalhadoras sexuais, e seu cotejamento com o componente quantitativo. Os efeitos são analisados em relação com o marco pandêmico brasileiro, considerando as dimensões sociais, econômicas e políticas do vírus da COVID-19. Entre as temáticas chaves da análise, se destacam: casos de adoecimento, práticas localizadas de isolamento social, práticas de prevenção e gerenciamento de cuidado, vacinação individual e estratégias coletivas de vacinação. Compartilhamos também as respostas cotidianas e ativistas traçadas por trabalhadoras sexuais numa agenda política que se contrapõe à lógica individualista, familiarista, doméstica e neoliberal de isolamento, por meio de perspectivas comunitárias de cuidado, o que se desenhou como a única linha de ação em saúde para a categoria durante a pandemia. As ações coletivas reposicionam o trabalho sexual na interface entre a saúde pública e os direitos humanos e tomam como princípio os conhecimentos das ruas, desde os ativismos, e o poder de decisão delas próprias sobre seus corpos.

Abstract: This paper describes the results of the study I Want More! The Lives of Sex Workers During the COVID-19 Pandemic, which is part of the EPIC community research program. The study analyzed the effects of the pandemic on the lives of cis, trans and travesti sex workers in nine Brazilian states and 11 cities throughout 2020 and 2021. This article focuses on the qualitative component of the study, which was based on semi-structured, remote and face-to-face interviews carried out with 43 sex workers, and its comparison with the quantitative component. The effects are analyzed in relation to the Brazilian pandemic framework, considering the social, economic and political dimensions of the COVID-19 virus. Some of the key themes of the analysis are cases of illness, specific social isolation practices, prevention and care management practices, individual vaccination and collective vaccination strategies. We also share the daily and activist responses drawn up by sex workers in a political agenda that opposes the individualistic, familialist, domestic, and neoliberal logic of isolation by adopting community care perspectives, which was the only line of health action for this work category during the pandemic. Collective actions reposition sex work at the interface between public health and human rights and take as their principle the “street knowledge”, from activism, and the workers’ power of decision over their own bodies.

Abstract Intimate Partner Violence (IPV) among youth is a public health problem worldwide because of its high prevalence and lifelong serious consequences in health and quality of life. This cross-sectional census aimed to describe the IPV victimization among all freshman students in a Brazilian university (n=1,509), which was selected from a larger population of 2,706 freshmen. We created a 10-item questionnaire inspired by established instruments to measure the prevalence of IPV. Multivariate logistic regression assessed the association between demographic, socioeconomic, and behavioral factors with various types of IPV. We visualized co-occurrence using a Venn diagram and employed multinomial logistic regression to examine the relationship between covariates and the cooccurrence of IPV types. The chance of IPV was higher in males, those who were currently in a relationship, and those with a higher risk of alcohol abuse. These same characteristics were also associated with an increased likelihood of experiencing the co-occurrence of two or more types of IPV. Prevention strategies should consider those groups and monitoring of those who abuse alcohol, which can be a predictor behavior or a mechanism to deal with the stress arising from IPV.

Resumo A Violência por Parceiro Íntimo (VPI) entre jovens é um problema de saúde pública em todo o mundo devido à sua alta prevalência e consequências graves duradouras na saúde e qualidade de vida. Este censo transversal teve como objetivo descrever a vitimização por VPI entre todos os estudantes calouros de uma universidade brasileira (n=1.509), selecionados a partir de uma população maior de 2.706 calouros. Criamos um questionário com 10 itens inspirado em instrumentos estabelecidos para medir a prevalência de VPI. A regressão logística multivariada avaliou a associação entre fatores demográficos, socioeconômicos e comportamentais a diferentes tipos de VPI. Visualizamos a coocorrência usando um diagrama de Venn e empregamos regressão logística multinomial para examinar a sua relação com as covariáveis. A chance de VPI foi maior em homens, naqueles que estavam atualmente em um relacionamento e naqueles com maior risco de abuso de álcool. As mesmas características também apresentaram maior probabilidade de experienciar a coocorrência de dois ou mais tipos de VPI. Estratégias de prevenção devem considerar esses grupos e o monitoramento daqueles que abusam de álcool, o que pode ser um comportamento preditor ou um mecanismo para lidar com o estresse decorrente da VPI.

Plectranthus amboinicus is an aromatic herb often used in traditional medicine due to its antimicrobial properties. Based on it, the present study aimed to assess the toxic, antioxidant and, antibacterial properties of P. amboinicus essential oil (EO) either separated or mixed into fish feed. The chemical composition of the EO was also investigated. All samples were prepared with over 50% of carvacrol. The results revealed that the EO is a weak antioxidant and highly toxic against Artemia salina, showing greater antibacterial activity than positive control of chloramphenicol and synergistic effects. RESUMO: O abcesso dentário em ruminantes é uma infeção polimicrobiana aguda, geralmente resultante de doença periodontal ou infeção endodôntica, com consequências para a saúde e bem-estar animal. O presente estudo teve como objetivo descrever a microbiota bacteriana de abscessos dentários em Blastocerus dichotomus. Material biológico de abscessos dentários mandibulares, puncionados com seringa e agulha estéril durante procedimentos curativos veterinários de rotina ou necropsias, foi coletado de três cervos do pantanal criados ex situ. As bactérias foram identificadas usando sequenciamento de alto rendimento do gene 16S ribossomal RNA. Os três espécimes apresentavam abaulamento facial e dois faleceram por emagrecimento severo com histórico de emagrecimento progressivo. Bacteroides (38,6%), Fusobacterium (36,65%) e Porphyromonas (7,49%) representaram os gêneros mais abundantes e Fusobacterium necrophorum (35,69%), Porphyromonas levii (3,12%) e Porphyromonas gulae (1,78%) estavam entre as dez espécies mais representadas na microbiota do abscesso mandibular em Blastocerus dichotomus. ABSTRACT: Dental abscess in ruminants is an acute polymicrobial infection, usually resulting from periodontal disease or endodontic infection, with consequences for animal health and welfare. The present study aimed to describe the bacterial microbiota of dental abscesses in Blastocerus dichotomus. Biological material from mandibular dental abscesses, punctured with a sterile syringe and needle during routine veterinary curative procedures or necropsies, was collected from three ex-situ marsh deer. Bacteria were identified using high-throughput sequencing of the 16S ribosomal RNA gene. The three specimens had the presence of facial bulging, and two died because of severe emaciation with a history of progressive weight loss. Bacteroides (38.6%), Fusobacterium (36.65%), and Porphyromonas (7.49%) represented the most abundant genera and Fusobacterium necrophorum (35.69%), Porphyromonas levii (3.12%) and Porphyromonas gulae (1.78%) were among the ten most represented species in the microbiota of mandibular abscess in Blastocerus dichotomus. RESUMO: Trypanosoma evansi, o patógeno hemoflagelado que causa a “surra”, é um protozoário que infecta a mais ampla variedade de mamíferos em todo o mundo, principalmente cavalos, camelos, cães e animais selvagens. Casos de tripanossomíase canina causada por T. evansi têm sido relatados na região pantaneira brasileira. Este estudo tem como objetivo determinar a prevalência de T. evansi e investigar fatores de risco. O estudo utilizou amostras de sangue de cães do município de Barão de Melgaço, no pantanal do estado de Mato Grosso, Brasil. O proprietário recebeu um questionário epidemiológico estruturado contendo informações sobre os fatores de risco. A técnica quantitativa de reação em cadeia da polimerase foi utilizada para detectar DNA de T. evansi utilizando oligonucleotídeos específicos da espécie TevF e TevR do gene que codifica uma porção de 227 pb da glicoproteína da superfície variante (VSG) T. evansi Rode Trypanozoon (RoTat) 1.2. ABSTRACT: Trypanosoma evansi, the hemoflagellate pathogen that causes “surra,” is a protozoan that infects the widest variety of mammals worldwide, primarily horses, camels, dogs, and wild animals. Cases of canine trypanosomiasis caused by T.evansi have been reported in the Brazilian pantonal region. This study determined the prevalence of T.evansi and investigate risk factors. The study used blood samples from dogs in the municipality of Barão de Melgaço in the pantonal of the state of Mato Grosso, Brazil. The owner was given a structured epidemiological questionnaire containing information about the risk factors. The quantitative polymerase chain reaction technique was used to detect T.evansi DNA using species-specific oligonucleotides TevF and TevR of the gene encoding a 227-bp portion of the glycoprotein of the variant surface (VSG) T.evansi Rode Trypanozoon (RoTat) 1.2. RESUMO O presente artigo objetivou descrever a experiência da construção do curso de especialização para gestores da Estratégia Saúde da Família enquanto papel inovador para uma Atenção Primária à Saúde (APS) de qualidade e resolutiva no Distrito Federal. ABSTRACT Objective: This study compared the outcomes of two cohorts of patients with coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) who received COVID-19 convalescent plasma transfusions between 2020 and 2021. Methods: This retrospective study was conducted at a tertiary hospital in São Paulo, Brazil. We included a retrospective cohort of patients who received convalescent compassionate plasma, and another group of patients from a previous clinical study. We collected clinical and laboratory data on the day of and 5 days after transfusion. Patients with hematological or immunological conditions were excluded. Statistical significance was set at p<0.05. Results: COVID-19 convalescent plasma did not affect the outcomes of patients with severe COVID-19 when comparing the two cohorts transfused with different volumes and titers of neutralizing antibodies. Despite improvements in some laboratory parameters, no effect on clinical outcomes was observed. Dialysis negatively affected the length of intensive care unit stay, hospitalization, and mechanical ventilation use. Each higher point on the day 0 World Health Organization scale reduced the probability of hospital and intensive care unit discharge and the risk of mechanical ventilation discontinuation. Observou-se, porém, que, embora a maioria dos adjetivos seja apenas pós-nominal em línguas românicas, alguns poucos adjetivos aparecem somente como pré-nominais, e há um grupo, mais extenso, que pode vir antes ou depois do núcleo, com mudança de sentido. Apesar desses três padrões distribucionais, para a abordagem cartográfica, há apenas duas fontes sintáticas: relativas reduzidas (associadas a adjetivos pós-nominais, de interpretação extensional) e projeções funcionais, que incluem todos os adjetivos pré-nominais e alguns pós-nominais, identificadas pela interpretação intensional. Propomos que aqueles adjetivos que são licenciados em italiano tanto antes quanto depois do núcleo nominal estão em uma projeção funcional, DegP, e são comparativas implícitas. ABSTRACT The canonical position of the adjectives in Romance languages is post-nominal. However, it is observed a triparted distribution: although the majority of the romance adjectives is exclusively post-nominal, a very few adjectives can be only pre-nominal, and a relatively numerous group of adjectives can come after and also before the nucleus, with a change in meaning. Despite those distributional patterns, for the cartography approach there are only two syntactic sources for adjectives: a reduced relative (always post-nominal, leading to extensional interpretation) and functional projections, which include all pre-nominal adjectives and some post-nominal adjectives, responsible for the intensional interpretation. We propose that those adjectives that are licensed in Italian both before and after the nominal head are in a functional projection, DegP, and are implicit comparatives. The difference in interpretation (intensional and extensional) is a byproduct of the distinct domains from which the comparison parameter comes from, and not determined by the syntax. Neither the distribution nor the interpretation of adjectives in Romance languages can be explained solely based on the syntactic source. RESUMO Objetivo: investigar a prevalência de sonolência diurna excessiva entre técnicos de enfermagem e a associação com a qualidade do sono e memória. Métodos: estudo transversal, inferencial, realizado em uma unidade hospitalar no estado de Goiás entre dezembro de 2020 e janeiro de 2021. As avaliações foram realizadas por meio da Epworth Sleepiness Scale, do Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index e da Prospective and Retrospective Memory Questionnaire, instrumentos validados para o contexto brasileiro. Foram realizadas análises de regressão logística bivariada e multivariada. Resultados: a amostra composta por 189 técnicos de enfermagem com prevalência de 40,9% de sonolência diurna excessiva. Em modelos multivariados, a sonolência diurna excessiva não associou com a qualidade do sono, no entanto houve associação significativa com falhas de memória geral. Methods: a cross-sectional, inferential study, carried out in a hospital unit in the state of Goiás between December 2020 and January 2021. Assessments were carried out using the Epworth Sleepiness Scale, the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index and the Prospective and Retrospective Memory Questionnaire, instruments validated for the Brazilian context. Bivariate and multivariate logistic regression analyzes were performed. Results: the sample consisted of 189 nursing technicians with a 40.9% excessive daytime sleepiness prevalence. In multivariate models, excessive daytime sleepiness was not associated with sleep quality, however there was a significant association with overall memory failures. Conclusions: study results demonstrate a high excessive daytime sleepiness occurrence, an association with overall memory failures and the need for psychosocial interventions for nursing technicians. RESUMEN Objetivo: investigar la prevalencia de somnolencia diurna excesiva entre técnicos de enfermería y la asociación con la calidad del sueño y la memoria. Métodos: estudio transversal, inferencial, realizado en una unidad hospitalaria del estado de Goiás entre diciembre de 2020 y enero de 2021. ABSTRACT Objective Currently programmed cell death protein 1 (PD-1) inhibitors in combination with other therapies are being evaluated to determine their efficacy in cancer treatment. However, the effect of PD-ligand (L) 1 expression on disease outcomes in stage III (EC III) non-small cell lung cancer is not completely understood. Therefore, this study aimed to assess the influence of PD-L1 expression on the outcomes of EC III non-small cell lung cancer. Methods This study was conducted on patients diagnosed with EC III non-small cell lung cancer who underwent treatment at a tertiary care hospital. PD-L1 expression was determined using immunohistochemical staining, all patients expressed PD-L1. Survival was estimated using the Kaplan-Meier method. Relationships between variables were assessed using Cox proportional regression models. Results A total of 49 patients (median age=69 years) with EC III non-small cell lung cancer and PD-L1 expression were evaluated. More than half of the patients were men, and most were regular smokers. The patients were treated with neoadjuvant chemotherapy, surgery, or sequential or combined chemotherapy and radiotherapy. The median progression-free survival of the entire cohort was 14.2 months, and the median overall survival was 20 months. There was no significant association between PD-L1 expression and disease progression, clinical characteristics, or overall survival. Conclusions PD-L1 expression was not correlated with EC III non-small cell lung cancer outcomes. Whether these findings differ from the association with immune checkpoint inhibitors remains to be addressed in future studies. RESUMO Anthurium Schott é o gênero mais rico em espécies da família Araceae Juss. com 154 espécies no Brasil, sendo 123 endêmicas, das quais 45 espécies ocorrem no Estado do Rio de Janeiro, sendo 43 endêmicas do país. Na Mata Atlântica fluminense, há uma lacuna de estudos na região Metropolitana, pois os existentes focam apenas em áreas das regiões serranas e litorâneas. Assim, o objetivo foi inventariar as espécies de Anthurium ocorrentes na Serra da Tiririca. Foi feita chave de identificação e descrição das espécies, fornecendo dados fenológicos e de distribuição. ABSTRACT Anthurium Schott is the most species-rich genus in the Araceae Juss. family with 154 species in Brazil, 123 of which are endemic and then 45 species occur in the state of Rio de Janeiro, 43 of which are endemic to the country. Resumo: Este trabalho apresenta os resultados do estudo Eu Quero é Mais! A Vida de Profissionais do Sexo Durante a Pandemia da COVID-19, integrante do programa de investigação comunitária EPIC. O estudo analisou os efeitos da pandemia nas vidas de trabalhadoras sexuais cis, trans e travestis em nove Unidades da Federação e 11 cidades brasileiras ao longo de 2020 e 2021. O artigo tem como foco o componente qualitativo do estudo baseado em entrevistas semiestruturadas realizadas de forma presencial e remota com 43 trabalhadoras sexuais, e seu cotejamento com o componente quantitativo. Os efeitos são analisados em relação com o marco pandêmico brasileiro, considerando as dimensões sociais, econômicas e políticas do vírus da COVID-19. Entre as temáticas chaves da análise, se destacam: casos de adoecimento, práticas localizadas de isolamento social, práticas de prevenção e gerenciamento de cuidado, vacinação individual e estratégias coletivas de vacinação. Compartilhamos também as respostas cotidianas e ativistas traçadas por trabalhadoras sexuais numa agenda política que se contrapõe à lógica individualista, familiarista, doméstica e neoliberal de isolamento, por meio de perspectivas comunitárias de cuidado, o que se desenhou como a única linha de ação em saúde para a categoria durante a pandemia. Abstract: This paper describes the results of the study I Want More! The Lives of Sex Workers During the COVID-19 Pandemic, which is part of the EPIC community research program. The study analyzed the effects of the pandemic on the lives of cis, trans and travesti sex workers in nine Brazilian states and 11 cities throughout 2020 and 2021. This article focuses on the qualitative component of the study, which was based on semi-structured, remote and face-to-face interviews carried out with 43 sex workers, and its comparison with the quantitative component. The effects are analyzed in relation to the Brazilian pandemic framework, considering the social, economic and political dimensions of the COVID-19 virus. Some of the key themes of the analysis are cases of illness, specific social isolation practices, prevention and care management practices, individual vaccination and collective vaccination strategies. We also share the daily and activist responses drawn up by sex workers in a political agenda that opposes the individualistic, familialist, domestic, and neoliberal logic of isolation by adopting community care perspectives, which was the only line of health action for this work category during the pandemic. Collective actions reposition sex work at the interface between public health and human rights and take as their principle the “street knowledge”, from activism, and the workers’ power of decision over their own bodies. Abstract The study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of combining two injectable progesterone (iP4) formulas for estrous synchronization in ewes and to compare it with traditional intravaginal progesterone devices. Additionally, the study assessed whether the inclusion of GnRH enhances the reproductive outcomes of the iP4 treatment. Two experiments were conducted. In the first experiment, 20 Santa Inês ewes were divided into two groups: one group received intravaginal progesterone devices, and the other received combined long-acting and short-acting iP4. In the second experiment, 30 Corriedale ewes were divided into two groups: one received the combined iP4 with GnRH, and the other without GnRH. Estrous, ovulation, follicular populations, and progesterone concentrations were monitored. The combined iP4 treatment induced an artificial luteal phase and produced reproductive responses similar to those obtained with intravaginal devices. In the first experiment, the iP4 treatment tended to result in more synchronized ovulation compared to the control (P=0.095). In the second experiment, adding GnRH enhanced the quality of the corpus luteum, as indicated by increased diameter and vascularization on Day 23 (P=0.047 and P=0.02, respectively). The combined administration of long-acting and short-acting iP4 effectively synchronized estrous in ewes and showed similar efficacy to traditional intravaginal devices. The inclusion of GnRH improved luteal quality, suggesting potential benefits for reproductive management in ewes.
