Abstract This study aimed to identify dietary patterns and to evaluate the association between body image perception and these patterns among schoolchildren. A cross-sectional study was conducted on 385 schoolchildren (both sexes, 10-17 years old) from four public schools in Salvador, Brazil. Two non-consecutive 24-hour dietary recalls were applied, and the dietary pattern was determined by Exploratory Factor Analysis after adjustment of dietary data using the Multiple Source Method. To evaluate body image perception, the Brazilian body shape silhouette was used. The associations between body image perception and dietary patterns using the polytomous logistic regression model adjusted for covariables was assessed. Three dietary patterns were obtained: “Western standard,” unhealthy, “healthy pattern” and “typical dishes/ junk food.” After adjustment, adolescents who wished for a slimmer silhouette (2.48 [95%CI: 1.04-6.11], 3.49 [95%CI: 1.35-9.05] and 2.87 [95%CI: 1.13-7.26]) were more likely to adhere to the quintiles with the lowest consumption of the Western standard, compared to those satisfied with their body image. No associations were identified in the other two dietary patterns. Adolescents dissatisfied with their bodies tend to adhere less to unhealthy dietary patterns.

RESUMO Objetivo Identificar fatores associados ao internamento na unidade de terapia intensiva de crianças e adolescentes com COVID-19. Método Estudo de coorte retrospectiva, com dados secundários, de crianças e adolescentes hospitalizados (zero a 18 anos), notificados com COVID-19 na Paraíba, de abril de 2020 a julho de 2021, totalizando 486 registros. Foram realizadas análise descritiva, regressão logística e regressão multinível, considerando o nível de significância de 5%. Resultados Na regressão logística sem níveis hierárquicos, ocorreu aumento da chance de internamento na unidade de terapia intensiva em pacientes do sexo masculino (RC = 1,98; IC95% 1,18 - 3,32), com desconforto respiratório (RC = 2,43; IC95% 1,29 - 4,56), dispneia (RC = 3,57; IC95% 1,77 - 7,18) e residentes em cidades com grande porte populacional (RC = 2,70; IC95% 1,07 - 6,77). Foi observada diminuição da chance de cuidados intensivos com aumento da idade em anos (RC = 0,94; IC95%=0,90 - 0,97), presença de tosse (RC = 0,32; IC95% 0,18 - 0,59), febre (RC = 0,42; IC95% 0,23 - 0,74) e aumento no Índice de Gini (RC = 0,003; IC95% 0,000 - 0,243). Na análise multinível, a chance de internamento na unidade de terapia intensiva aumentou no sexo masculino (RC = 1,70; IC95%=1,68-1,71) e por conta do aumento no porte populacional do município a cada 100 mil habitantes (RC = 1,01; IC95% 1,01 - 1,03); a chance de internamento na unidade de terapia intensiva diminuiu em pacientes pardos versus não pardos (RC = 0,981; IC95% 0,97 - 0,99) e por conta do aumento a cada pontuação do Índice de Gini (RC = 0,02; IC95% 0,02 - 0,02). Conclusão Os efeitos das condições próprias do paciente e do contexto social na necessidade de cuidados intensivos em crianças e adolescentes com infecção pelo SARS-CoV-2 são mais bem estimados com a inclusão de um modelo de regressão multinível nas análises. ABSTRACT Objective To identify factors associated with hospitalization in the intensive care unit in children and adolescents with COVID-19. Methods This was a retrospective cohort study using secondary data of hospitalized children and adolescents (zero to 18 years old) with COVID-19 reported in Paraíba from April 2020 to July 2021, totaling 486 records. Descriptive analysis, logistic regression and multilevel regression were performed, utilizing a significance level of 5%. Results According to logistic regression without hierarchical levels, there was an increased chance of admission to the intensive care unit for male patients (OR = 1.98; 95%CI 1.18 - 3.32), patients with respiratory distress (OR = 2.43; 95%CI 1.29 - 4.56), patients with dyspnea (OR = 3.57; 95%CI 1.77 - 7.18) and patients living in large cities (OR = 2.70; 95%CI 1.07 - 6.77). The likelihood of requiring intensive care was observed to decrease with increasing age (OR = 0.94; 95%CI = 0.90 - 0.97), the presence of cough (OR = 0.32; 95%CI 0.18 - 0.59) or fever (OR = 0.42; 95%CI 0.23 - 0.74) and increasing Gini index (OR = 0.003; 95%CI 0.000 - 0.243). According to the multilevel analysis, the odds of admission to the intensive care unit increased in male patients (OR = 1.70; 95%CI = 1.68-1.71) and with increasing population size of the municipality per 100,000 inhabitants (OR = 1.01; 95%CI 1.01-1.03); additionally, the odds of admission to the intensive care unit decreased for mixed-race versus non-brown-skinned patients (OR = 0.981; 95%CI 0.97 - 0.99) and increasing Gini index (OR = 0.02; 95%CI 0.02 - 0.02). Conclusion The effects of patient characteristics and social context on the need for intensive care in children and adolescents with SARS-CoV-2 infection were better estimated with the inclusion of a multilevel regression model. Abstract Introduction Glycemic control is important to avoid diabetes complications in individuals with cancer. There is no evidence for HbA1c and fructosamine as reliable biomarkers in these conditions. There are particularities in caring for patients with diabetes and cancer that can alter these biomarkers. Objective The aim of this study was to evaluate HbA1c and fructosamine as glycemic biomarkers in people with type 2 diabetes and cancer, undergoing clinical or surgical oncological treatment. Methods The authors conducted a single-center, retrospective analysis with people who have cancer and diabetes. Comparison of glycemic biomarkers (HbA1c, fructosamine, and Self-Monitoring of Blood Glucose [SMBG]) was performed including evaluation in individuals undergoing chemotherapy, using glucocorticoids, with anemia, hypoproteinemia or with reduced estimated Glomerular Filtration Rate (eGFR). Results There was a strong positive correlation between fructosamine and HbA1c (n = 318, r= 0.66, p < 0.001) in people with diabetes and cancer even in those under chemotherapy (n = 101, r= 0.61, p < 0.001) or using glucocorticoids (n = 96, r= 0.67, p<0.001). There was a strong correlation between HbA1c and fructosamine in subjects with anemia (n = 111, r= 0.66, p < 0.001), hypoproteinemia (n = 54, r= 0.67, p < 0.001), or with eGFR ≥ 60 mL/min/1.73 m2 (n = 189, r= 0.70, p < 0.001), and moderate correlation with hypoalbuminemia (n = 21, r= 0.54, p = 0.001) and with reduced eGFR (n = 67, r= 0.57, p < 0.001). The correlations between fructosamine and HbA1c with SMBG were moderate (n = 164, r= 0.49, p < 0.001; n = 111, r= 0.55, p < 0.001, respectively), strong in subjects undergoing chemotherapy, with hypoalbuminemia or hypoproteinemia, and at least moderate, if eGFR < 60 mL/min/1.73 m2 or with anemia. Conclusions Fructosamine and HbA1c can be used as glycemic biomarkers in people with diabetes and cancer, even in those with anemia, hypoproteinemia, or undergoing chemotherapy. Resumen Objetivo Analizar las noticias difundidas en la prensa brasileña sobre el trabajo de enfermería en el período de la pandemia de COVID-19 comprendido entre febrero de 2020 y agosto de 2021. Métodos Estudio documental, descriptivo, de enfoque cualitativo. Elaborado a partir de información recopilada en sitios web de noticias, por medio de clipping, siguiendo las etapas de monitoreo, recopilación, análisis y archivo de menciones del trabajo de enfermería realizadas por los medios de comunicación brasileños. La muestra totalizó 432 noticias. El análisis de los datos se realizó mediante el análisis de contenido temático propuesto por Laurence Bardin. Resultados El año 2020 se destacó entre las noticias analizadas (59,96 %), cuyos personajes involucrados fueron profesionales de enfermería, de sexo femenino (36,57 %), de nivel técnico (38,89 %) y superior (38,43 %). Hubo un predominio de noticias en la región Sudeste (45,83 %) y Centro-Oeste (17,36 %). Se identificaron seis categorías para el análisis de datos: fallecimiento entre las trabajadoras (40,74 %), condiciones de trabajo precarias (28,94 %), vacunación (8,56 %), contaminación de las trabajadoras (8,33 %), sospecha de infracción ética (8,10 %) y cura de COVID-19 (5,32 %). Conclusión La pandemia de COVID-19 en Brasil colocó el trabajo de enfermería y sus trabajadoras en el centro del debate periodístico. Los fallecimientos, las condiciones de trabajo precarias y la contaminación de las trabajadoras de enfermería, difundidas en la prensa, se relacionan con la precarización del trabajo de enfermería en este estudio. Se presume que el debate periodístico sobre el trabajo de enfermería durante la pandemia de COVID-19 ayudó a fortalecer debates políticos, como el que llevó a la promulgación de la ley n°. 14.434/2022, que trata sobre el salario mínimo nacional para estas profesionales. Resumo Objetivo Analisar as notícias veiculadas na imprensa brasileira sobre o trabalho em enfermagem no período da pandemia da COVID-19, compreendido entre fevereiro de 2020 a agosto de 2021. Métodos Estudo documental, descritivo, de abordagem qualitativa. Elaborado a partir de informações coletadas em sites de notícias, por meio de clipping, seguindo as etapas de monitoramento, coleta, análise e arquivamento de menções ao trabalho em enfermagem feitas pela mídia brasileira. A amostra totalizou 432 notícias. A análise dos dados se deu pela Análise de Conteúdo Temática proposta por Laurence Bardin. Resultados O ano de 2020 destacou-se dentre as notícias analisadas (59,96%), cujos personagens envolvidos foram profissionais da enfermagem, do sexo feminino (36,57%), de nível técnico (38,89%) e superior (38,43%). Houve predomínio de notícias nas regiões Sudeste (45,83%) e Centro-Oeste (17,36%). Foram identificadas seis categorias para análise dos dados: óbitos entre as trabalhadoras (40,74%), condições precárias de trabalho (28,94%), vacinação (8,56%), contaminação das trabalhadoras (8,33%), suspeita de infração ética (8,10%) e cura da COVID-19 (5,32%). Conclusão A pandemia da COVID-19 no Brasil trouxe o trabalho e as trabalhadoras da enfermagem para o centro de debate jornalístico. O óbito, as condições precárias de trabalho e a contaminação das trabalhadoras de enfermagem, veiculadas na imprensa, relacionam-se com a precarização do trabalho em enfermagem neste estudo. Conjectura-se que o debate jornalístico sobre o trabalho em enfermagem na pandemia da COVID-19 ajudou a fortalecer pautas políticas, como a que conduziu à promulgação da Lei n. 14.434/2022, que trata do piso salarial nacional para essas profissionais. Abstract Objective To analyze the news published in the Brazilian press about nursing work during the COVID-19 pandemic period, between February 2020 and August 2021. Methods This is a documentary, descriptive study with a qualitative approach. Elaborated from information collected on news sites, through clipping, following the stages of monitoring, collection, analysis and archiving of mentions of work in nursing made by the Brazilian media. The sample totaled 432 news. Data analysis was performed using the Thematic Content Analysis proposed by Laurence Bardin. Results The year 2020 stood out among the analyzed news (59.96%), whose characters involved were nursing professionals, female (36.57%), technical (38.89%) and higher (38. 43%). There was a predominance of news in the Southeast (45.83%) and Midwest (17.36%) regions. Six categories were identified for data analysis: deaths among workers (40.74%), precarious working conditions (28.94%), vaccination (8.56%), contamination of workers (8.33%), suspected of ethical infraction (8.10%) and COVID-19 cure (5.32%). Conclusion The COVID-19 pandemic in Brazil brought nursing work and workers to the center of journalistic debate. Death, precarious working conditions and contamination of nursing workers, reported in the press, are related to the precariousness of nursing work in this study. It is conjectured that the journalistic debate on nursing work in the COVID-19 pandemic helped to strengthen political guidelines, such as the one that led to the enactment of Law 14,434/2022, which deals with the national wage floor for these professionals. SUMMARY OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the prevalence of burnout syndrome (BS) in physicians working during the COVID-19 pandemic in Paraíba and to investigate the association between BS and the sociodemographic and labor variables of these professionals. METHODS: This was a cross-sectional study including physicians who were active during the pandemic in Paraíba, whether they were on the front line (group 1) or not (group 2). Sociodemographic and labor variables were collected, and the Maslach Burnout Inventory-Human Services Survey (MBI-HSS) questionnaire was applied. RESULTS: A total of 126 physicians were included, including 82 who were on the front line. Among the professionals with results compatible with BS, 85.5% were in group 1, compared with 14.5% in group 2, and this difference was statistically significant. At the 5% level, the variables associated with BS were age (24–33 years), not having children, working on the front line, working in the COVID-19 ICU, being on duty, and having contracted COVID-19. CONCLUSIONS: This case series found a positive association between the development of BS and medical action on the front line of the COVID-19 pandemic in Paraíba.

Resumo Objetivo: O objetivo deste estudo foi traduzir, adaptar culturalmente e avaliar o Inventário de Preocupações dos Pacientes - Cabeça e Pescoço (IPP-CP) em uma série consecutiva de pacientes brasileiros. Método: Este estudo incluiu pacientes adultos tratados por câncer do trato aerodigestivo superior (TADS). A tradução e a adaptação cultural do IPP-CP seguiram diretrizes internacionalmente aceitas e incluíram uma amostra piloto de pacientes que completaram a primeira versão em português do IPP-CP. O uso, a viabilidade e a aceitabilidade do IPP-CP foram testados posteriormente, em uma série consecutiva de pacientes com câncer do TADS que completaram a versão final em português do PCI e uma versão em português do questionário de qualidade de vida da Universidade de Washington (UW-QOL). As associações entre os escores físicos e socioemocionais do UW-QOL e do IPP foram analisadas. Resultados: Vinte pacientes participaram da pesquisa piloto (processo de adaptação cultural e tradução), e 84 pacientes foram analisados no estudo de validação cultural. As questões mais selecionadas foram: medo de o câncer voltar, boca seca, mastigação/comer, fala/voz/ser compreendido, deglutição, saúde dental/dentes, ansiedade, fadiga/cansaço, paladar e medo de eventos adversos. Os três especialistas mais selecionados foram fonoaudiólogo, dentista e psicólogo. Relações estatisticamente significativas entre IPP e UW-QOL foram encontradas. Conclusão: A tradução e a adaptação cultural do IPP para o português foram bem-sucedidas, e os resultados demonstram a viabilidade e a utilidade da ferramenta, tornando-a valiosa para uso na população brasileira com câncer de CP.

Summary Objective: The purpose of this study was to translate, culturally validate and evaluate the Patients Concerns Inventory - Head and Neck (PCI-H&N) in a consecutive series of Brazilian patients. Method: This study included adult patients treated for upper aerodigestive tract (UADT) cancer. The translation and cultural adaptation of the PCI-H&N followed internationally accepted guidelines and included a pretest sample of patients that completed the first Brazilian Portuguese version of the PCI. Use, feasibility and acceptability of the PCI were tested subsequently in a consecutive series of UADT cancer patients that completed the final Brazilian Portuguese version of the PCI and a Brazilian Portuguese version of the University of Washington Quality of Life Questionnaire (UW-QOL). Associations between physical and socio-emotional composite scores from the UW-QOL and the PCI were analyzed. Results: Twenty (20) patients participated in the pretest survey (translation and cultural adaptation process), and 84 patients were analyzed in the cultural validation study. Issues most selected were: fear of cancer returning, dry mouth, chewing/eating, speech/voice/being understood, swallowing, dental health/teeth, anxiety, fatigue/tiredness, taste, and fear of adverse events. The three specialists most selected by the patients for further consultation were speech therapist, dentist and psychologist. Statistically significant relationships between PCI and UW-QOL were found. Conclusion: The translation and cultural adaptation of the PCI into Brazilian Portuguese language was successful, and the results demonstrate its feasibility and usefulness, making this a valuable tool for use among the Brazilian head and neck cancer population.

Relatamos um caso no qual a avaliação quantitativa do coeficiente de difusão aparente (ADC) de metástases hepáticas submetidas a quimioterapia se mostrou um bom preditor e marcador precoce de resposta terapêutica, antecipando alterações de tamanho. Lesão com valor inicial do ADC mais baixo e com aumento precoce deste valor no curso do tratamento tende a apresentar melhor resposta terapêutica tardia.

The authors report a case where a quantitative assessment of the apparent diffusion coefficient (ADC) of liver metastasis in a patient undergoing chemotherapy has shown to be an effective early marker for predicting therapeutic response, anticipating changes in tumor size. A lesion with lower initial ADC value and early increase in such value in the course of the treatment tends to present a better therapeutic response.
