Resumen: A partir de datos municipales sobre certificados de defunción registrados en el Ministerio de Salud de Brasil y de los resultados electorales de la primera vuelta de las elecciones presidenciales de 2018 y 2022, se evaluó si existe una asociación entre el exceso de mortalidad y el partidismo político en Brasil. Ante la postura del ex presidente brasileño de desacreditar y desatender la gravedad de la pandemia, probablemente exista una relación entre las altas tasas de mortalidad durante la crisis de salud del COVID-19 y el número de votos municipales para Bolsonaro. Los resultados demostraron que, en ambas elecciones, el porcentaje de votos municipales en la primera vuelta para Bolsonaro estuvo asociado positivamente con los picos de alta de muertes en los municipios brasileños para el período 2020-2021. Incluso con la alta mortalidad durante la pandemia, la lealtad política de Bolsonaro no disminuyó durante el segundo período electoral en 2022. Abstract Chromosomal Microarray Analysis (CMA) has increased the comprehension of the mechanisms of copy number variation (CNV) formation, classification of these rearrangements, type of recurrence, and its origin, and has also been a powerful approach to identifying CNVs in individuals with intellectual disability. The aim of this study was to establish the parental origin of de novo pathogenic CNV in a cohort of patients with intellectual disability from the public health system of Goiás-Brazil. CMA was done in 76 trios and we identified 15 de novo pathogenic CNVs in 12 patients with intellectual disability. In a total of 15 de novo pathogenic CNV, 60% were derived from the maternal germline and 40% from the paternal germline. CNV flanked by low copy repeats (LCR) were identified in 46.7% and most of them were of maternal origin. No significant association was observed between paternal age and the mutation rate of de novo CNVs. The presence of high-identity LCRs increases the occurrence of CNV formation mediated by non-allelic homologous recombination and the majority of paternal CNVs are non-recurrent. Abstract Lip squamous cell carcinoma (LSCC) accounts for 12% of all head and neck cancers. It is caused by chronic exposure to ultraviolet light solar radiation and related to previous actinic cheilitis (AC). This study aimed to investigate the immunostaining of the putative cancer stem cells (CSC) markers ALDH1 and CD44 in AC (n=30) and LSCC (n=20). ALDH1 positivity was found to be statistically higher in LSCC than in AC lesions (p=0.0045), whilst CD44 expression was statistically higher in AC than in LSCC lesions (p=0.0155). ALDH1+ cells in AC lesions were associated with specific clinical features: a younger age (<60 years old), the female gender, white skin, not smoking or consuming alcohol, and a fast evolution, and not associated with the chronic exposure to UV radiation (p<0.0001). CD44 positivity was associated with patients who were male, feoderm, smoked, consumed alcohol, underwent occupational exposure to UV-radiation, and demonstrated lesions with log-time evolution (p<0.0001). ALDH1 + cells were associated with mild dysplasia using a system from the World Health Organization (WHO), and with a low risk of malignant transformation, according to the binary system (p<0.0001). CD44+ cells were also associated with moderated dysplasia, according to the WHO system. In LSCC, ALDH1 + cells were positively associated with patients who were older (≥ 60 years old), smokers, and with those who consumed alcohol (p<0.0001). CD44 + cells in LSCC were associated with older (≥ 60 years old) patients as well, but also with female patients, white skin, non-smokers, and individuals who did not consume alcohol (p<0.0001), all of whom showed distinct patterns in pre- and malignant lesions of both markers. Additionally, in LSCC, both ALDH1 and CD44 staining were associated with smaller tumor sizes (T1/T2; p<0.0001). In summary, although both ALDH1 and CD44 were associated with the presence of dysplasia in AC lesions, the present findings suggest that ALDH1 and CD44 may be activated by different etiopathogenic pathways, predominantly in distinct steps of oral carcinogenesis. RESUMO Introdução: As neoplasias de cabeça e pescoço costumam afetar funções fundamentais, como engolir, falar, comer e se socializar. A avaliação do seu tratamento deve, portanto, levar em consideração a opinião do médico e a perspectiva do paciente. Essa dificuldade em avaliar o sucesso do tratamento levou ao desenvolvimento do FACE-Q - Módulo de Câncer de Cabeça e Pescoço, um questionário de resultados relatados pelo paciente que mede a aparência, função facial, qualidade de vida e experiência de cuidado para neoplasias de cabeça e pescoço. O objetivo é a tradução, adaptação cultural e validação linguística do questionário FACE- Q Câncer de Cabeça e Pescoço para o português brasileiro. Métodos: A tradução, adaptação cultural e validação linguística do questionário completo ocorreram em quatro etapas, usando as diretrizes oficiais da Organização Mundial da Saúde e da Sociedade Internacional de Farmacoeconomia e Pesquisa de Resultados. Resultados: Uma versão em português brasileiro semântica, idiomática e conceitualmente equivalente foi obtida por meio de uma tradução validada linguisticamente do módulo FACE-Q Head and Neck Cancer em inglês. Conclusão: A versão em português brasileiro apresenta uma versão com equivalente ao instrumento original em inglês, que pode ser utilizada como avaliação crítica de resultados relatados pelo paciente.

ABSTRACT Introduction: Head and neck neoplasms often affect fundamental functions, such as swallowing, speech, eating, and socializing. Evaluating their treatment should consider the physician’s opinion and the patient’s perspective. This difficulty in assessing the success of treatment led to the development of the FACE-Q Head and Neck Cancer Module, a questionnaire of patient-reported outcomes that measure the appearance, facial function, quality of life, and experience of care to head and neck neoplasms. The objective is to translation, cultural adaptation, and linguistic validation of the FACE-Q Head and Neck Cancer questionnaire for Brazilian Portuguese. Methods: The translation, cultural adaptation, and linguistic validation of the full questionnaire took place in four stages, using official guidelines from the World Health Organization and the International Society of Pharmacoeconomics and Outcomes Research. Results: A semantic, idiomatic, and conceptually equivalent Brazilian Portuguese version was achieved through a linguistically validated translation of the English FACE-Q Head and Neck Cancer module. Conclusion: The Brazilian Portuguese version presents a version equivalent to the original English instrument, which can be used as a critical patient-reported outcome assessment.

RESUMO A castanheira-da-amazônia (Bertholletia excelsa) é nativa da floresta amazônica e sua produção de frutos varia naturalmente com as condições climáticas. Nosso objetivo foi avaliar a variação temporal na produção de frutos da castanheira associada a variáveis climáticas, incluindo o forte El Nino de 2015/2016. O estudo foi realizado em parcelas permanentes de 9 ha de 2007 a 2018, uma localizada em floresta (12 anos de monitoramento) e a outra em transição floresta/savana (oito anos). Em total, monitoramos 205 castanheiras com diâmetro à altura do peito ≥ 50 cm. A produção anual de frutos foi relacionada a séries temporais (2005-2018) de dados climáticos (o Índice Oceânico Niño; e a precipitação e temperatura do ar de duas estações meteorológicas locais). A produção média por castanheira em 2017 foi oito vezes menor que em 2015 e duas vezes menor que a média geral nos dois sítios, e foi significativamente associada ao El Niño de 2015/2016, que causou aumento na temperatura máxima mensal e redução na precipitação regional, prolongando a estação seca de três para seis meses. Os anos com maior e menor produção média por castanheira foram os mesmos nos dois ambientes. A produção anual de frutos foi significativa e negativamente correlacionada com as anomalias térmicas ocorridas no terceiro semestre antes da colheita. Anos de maior produção foram relacionados com predominância de neutralidade ou do fenômeno La Niña em escala global, e aumento da precipitação em nível local. A relação entre produção de frutos e clima foi independente do ambiente local.

ABSTRACT The Brazil-nut tree (Bertholletia excelsa) is native to the Amazon rainforest, and its fruit production varies naturally with climatic conditions. Our aim was to evaluate the temporal variation in Brazil-nut production associated with climatic variables, including the strong El Niño of 2015/2016. The study was carried out in two 9-ha permanent plots in the northeastern Brazilian Amazon from 2007 to 2018: one in forest (12-year monitoring) and the other in savannah/forest transition (eight years). Overall, we monitored fruit production of 205 trees with diameter at breast height ≥ 50 cm. Annual fruit production was related to temporal series (2005-2018) of climatic data (the Oceanic Niño Index; and precipitation and air temperature from two local meteorological stations). Average fruit production per tree in 2017 was eight times lower than in 2015 and two times lower than the general average for both sites, and was significantly associated to the El Niño of 2015/2016, that increased average maximum monthly temperature and reduced the precipitation in the region, extending the dry season from three to six months. Years with higher and lower fruit production per tree coincided in both sites. Annual fruit production was significantly and negatively correlated with thermal anomalies that occurred in the third semester prior to harvest monitoring. Years with higher production were related with predominance of neutrality or the La Niña phenomenon at the global scale, and higher rainfall at the local scale. The relationship of fruit production with climate was independent of the local habitat.

Resumo: As novas tecnologias da informação produziram profundas transformações na educação e na sociedade. Todas as áreas do conhecimento têm sido constantemente reinventadas, readaptadas e recriadas para se ajustarem às novas exigências da prática profissional. A educação nas profissões da saúde também tem seguido esses passos. É nítido como os estudantes, futuros educadores, estão envolvidos nessa transformação e têm sido vetores dessas mudanças. Paralelamente, a concepção dos novos currículos para os cursos da área da saúde pressupõe a participação ativa dos estudantes na própria formação e na de seus pares. Essa nova forma de ensinar, que privilegia o trabalho em equipe, a aprendizagem por pares, a interdisciplinaridade e a autonomia, estimula e exige esse protagonismo dos estudantes. A participação ativa do estudante nas atividades educativas da graduação traz inúmeros benefícios: favorece o aprendizado, as relações interpessoais e a aquisição de habilidades de comunicação, de orientação, de liderança, de pesquisa e de gestão, e desenvolve a responsabilidade social. Os estudantes das profissões da saúde, mesmo nas fases mais precoces de formação, fazem suas escolhas e direcionam sua formação para o que desejam na vida profissional. Quando essa escolha recai sobre uma área específica da saúde, eles encontram, desde a graduação, maneiras de começar a desenvolver seus conhecimentos e habilidades em clínica médica, cirurgia, pediatria, pesquisa em laboratório, saúde pública e outras áreas, mas não encontram apoio à formação quando pretendem ser futuros professores. Nesse contexto, surgiu o Projeto FELLOWS, um projeto de desenvolvimento docente, proposto e conduzido por estudantes de Medicina, em blended learning (presencial e a distância) que tem como objetivos a formação e o aperfeiçoamento em habilidades de educação para estudantes das profissões da saúde, aqui apresentado como um relato de experiência. Em 2017, o projeto estendeu-se de abril a outubro em encontros mensais no horário noturno e, eventualmente, aos sábados. Foi conduzido por quatro estudantes de Medicina (coordenadores) e dois professores supervisores e contou com colaboradores de outras instituições de educação médica. Em 2018, as atividades educativas foram realizadas exclusivamente pelos estudantes/residentes coordenadores e os professores supervisores, por meio de duas sessões de imersão (sexta, sábado e domingo), separadas por um período de quatro meses em que foi elaborado um projeto de educação, construído em grupos de seis estudantes acompanhados por um tutor e um coordenador. As atividades do Projeto FELLOWS seguem as Diretrizes Curriculares Nacionais do Curso de Graduação em Medicina de 2001 e 2014, atendem às demandas da educação nas áreas da saúde no Brasil e respeitam o perfil desejado do profissional egresso, com responsabilidade social. Oferecem o contato e progressivo domínio de habilidades de comunicação e de competências para o trabalho docente, o uso de metodologias ativas de ensino-aprendizagem, o trabalho em equipe, o uso de tecnologias digitais, o exercício da comunicação oral e escrita e a criatividade para a inovação. O processo de execução do Projeto FELLOWS trouxe benefícios diretos para os organizadores e para os participantes, e benefícios indiretos para as instituições de ensino a que pertencem, pois envolveu produção de conhecimento, engajamento estudantil e responsabilidade social.

Abstract: New information technologies have produced profound changes in education and society. All knowledge areas have been constantly reinvented, readjusted and recreated to fit the changing demands of professional practice. Education in the health professions has also followed this trend. It is now clear how students, the future educators, are involved in this transformation and have been vectors of these changes. In parallel, the new curricula for health professions courses presuppose the active participation of students in their own training and in the training of their peers. This new way of teaching, which privileges teamwork, peer learning, interdisciplinarity, and autonomy, stimulates and demands this leadership role from students. Active student participation in undergraduate educational activities has several benefits: it favors learning; interpersonal relationships; acquiring skills in communication, mentoring, leadership, research, and management and develops social accountability. Undergraduate students in the health professions, even at the earliest stages of their education, make their choices and direct their interest to the area of knowledge they desire in professional life. When this choice falls on a specific area of health, they find, at the undergraduate level, ways to begin to develop their knowledge and skills in clinical practice, surgery, pediatrics, laboratory research, public health and other areas, but find no support for training when they intend to be future teachers. In this context, the FELLOWS Project emerged, proposed and carried out by medical students, a blended learning teaching development project that aims to train and improve education skills for students of the health professions, herein presented as an experience report. In 2017 the project took place from April to October, in monthly nighttime meetings, and eventually on Saturdays. It was conducted by four medical students (coordinators), two supervising local teachers and had collaborators from other medical education institutions. In 2018 the educational activities were held exclusively by students/resident coordinators and supervising teachers through two immersion sessions (Friday, Saturday and Sunday), separated by a 4 month-period, during which an education project was prepared, created in groups of six students accompanied by a tutor and a coordinator. The activities of the FELLOWS Project follow the National Curriculum Guidelines for the Undergraduate Medical Course of 2001 and 2014, meet the demands of health education in Brazil and respect the desired profile of the professional graduate, with social accountability. It offers contact with and progressive skills of communication and competencies for teaching, using active teaching-learning methodologies, teamwork, the use of digital technologies, exercising oral and written communication and creativity for innovation. The FELLOWS Project implementation process has brought direct benefits to the organizers and participants and indirect benefits to the educational institutions to which they belong, as it involved knowledge production, student engagement and social accountability.

RESUMEN Introducción: La inestabilidad hemodinámica, que se caracteriza por las oscilaciones de la presión arterial, es frecuente durante las sesiones de hemodiáilisis (HD) y tiene como resultado la hipotensión intradialítica, causada por una disminución en el volumen sanguíneo del sistema cardiovascular. Es esencial realizar ajustes inmediatos en el sistema cardiovascular, mediados principalmente por el sistema nervioso autónomo, a fin de mantener la estabilidad hemodinámica durante la hemodiálisis. Objetivo: El objetivo de nuestro estudio fue investigar la relación entre la actividad del sistema nervioso simpático y la estabilidad hemodinámica en pacientes con enfermedad renal crónica (ERC) durante las sesiones de hemodiálisis, así como la relación entre la actividad del sistema nervioso simpático y el estado urémico. Material y métodos: Se registraron, durante las sesiones de hemodiálisis, los intervalos RR sucesivos de 14 pacientes con enfermedad renal crónica (8 mujeres y 6 hombres) sin antecedentes de episodios recurrentes de hipotensión intradialítica (HI). Se realizaron registros de la tensión arterial en intervalos regulares de 30 minutos durante 4 horas en cada sesión. La estabilidad hemodinámica se estableció mediante la desviación estándar, el coeficiente de variación (CV) y delta (diferencia entre la medida más alta y la más baja) de la tensión arterial sistólica (TAS), la diastólica (TAD) y la media (TAM), así como la tensión diferencial (TD) a partir de los ocho registros obtenidos durante cada sesión. Se utilizó el análisis espectral de transformaciones logarítmicas de baja frecuencia (LnLFnu, por su sigla en inglés) expresados en unidades normalizadas mediante transformación logarítmica. El estado urémico se determinó a través del promedio de los valores de uremia obtenidos durante los últimos doce meses. Se utilizó el coeficiente de correlación de Pearson para analizar las variables estudiadas. Resultados: Mediante los distintos cálculos, se hallaron las siguientes correlaciones negativas con los valores de lnLFnu : SD (TAS [r = -0,480; p = 0,010]; TD [r = -0,504; p = 0,006] , y TAM [r = -0,449; p = 0,017]); CV (TAS [r = -0,390; p = 0,040]); y delta (TAS [r = -0,438; p = 0,020]; TD [r = -0,490; p = 0,008], y TAM [r = -0,382; p = 0,045]). También se observó una correlación negativa entre lnLFnu y el estado urémico (r = -0,601; p = 0,01). Conclusiones: Nuestros resultados indican que los valores más elevados de LnLFnu se asocian con una mejor estabilidad hemodinámica, es decir, menor oscilación de la tensión arterial, durante las sesiones de hemodiálisis. A su vez, el promedio de concentración de urea en sangre registrado durante los últimos doce meses, al cual definimos como el estado urémico, se relacionó con valores más bajos de LnLFnu durante las sesiones de hemodiálisis.

ABSTRACT Introduction: Hemodynamic instabilities, characterized by oscillations of blood pressure, are common during hemodialysis sessions (HD), culminating in intradialytic hypotension owing to volume withdrawal from the cardiovascular system. The ability to carry out immediate adjusts in cardiovascular system, mainly mediated by the autonomic nervous system, is essential to the maintenance of hemodynamic stability during HD. Objective: This study aimed to investigate the relationship between the sympathetic activity, and the hemodynamic stability from chronic kidney disease (CKD) patients during the HD, as well as the relationship between sympathetic activity and the uremic state. Methods: Fourteen CKD patients (8 women and 6 men) with no history of recurrent intradialytic hypotension (ID) episodes had the successive RR intervals recorded during HD. Blood pressure measurements were recorded at regular intervals of 30 minutes along 4 hours of each session. Hemodynamic stability was established by the standard deviation (SD), coefficient of variation (CV) and the Delta (difference between the highest and the lowest measure) of systolic (SBP), diastolic (DBP), and mean (MBP) blood pressures, as well as the pulse pressure (PP) from the 8 recordings obtained during each session. As a measure of autonomic heart control, the low-transformed low frequency (lnLFnu) spectral band was used. The uremic state was established by the mean of uremia from the last 12 months. Pearson's correlation was used to analyze the correlation between the studied variables. Results: The lnLFnu values were negatively associated SD (SBP [r = -0.480; p = 0.010], PP [r = -0.504; p = 0.006] and MBP [r = -0.449; p = 0.017]), CV (SBP [r = -0.390; p = 0.040]) and delta (SBP [r = -0.438; p = 0.020], PP [r = -0.490; p = 0.008] and MBP [r = -0.382; p = 0.045]). lnLFnu was also negatively associated to the uremic state (r = -0.601; p = 0.01). Conclusions: Our results indicate that higher values of the lnLFnu are associated with better hemodynamic stability (i.e., smaller blood pressure oscillations) during HD sessions, in turn, the mean of blood urea concentration in the last 12 months, defined here as the uremic state, was associated with lower values of the lnLFnu during HD sessions.

RESUMO O Polietileno (PE) Verde é um polímero sintético que apresenta baixa energia superficial, que resulta em fraca propriedade de adesão. Esta baixa adesão, provoca alguns problemas relativos às aplicações práticas dos polímeros, como fraca aderência de tintas de impressão, revestimentos, adesivos e metais à superfície do polímero, entre outros. Uma maneira de alterar essa propriedade é por meio da aplicação de um tratamento por plasma. Neste sentido, o objetivo deste trabalho foi preparar, via extrusão plana, filmes de biocompósitos com matriz de PE Verde (PEPURO) e carga de argila Vermiculita Expandida (VMT) no teor de 1%. Os filmes foram tratados por plasma em duas condições distintas: sob atmosfera de Oxigênio (O2) (C1); e sob atmosfera correspondendo a mistura de Argônio/Hidrogênio (Ar/H2) e um posterior tratamento por plasma sob atmosfera de O2 (C2). Os resultados indicaram que os tratamentos a plasma e a incorporação de VMT aumentaram a hidrofilicidade dos filmes, sendo que a aplicação da condição 2 (C2) mostrou-se de maneira mais eficiente. O PEPURO não tratado apresentou redução significativa de resistência máxima a tração com a inserção de VMT, já com a aplicação dos tratamentos (C1 e C2) os valores de resistência foram superiores. Em relação à rugosidade foi possível verificar que a aplicação do plasma aumentou a rugosidade na superfície das amostras. Estes resultados indicaram que o aumento da hidrofilicidade e da rugosidade resultaram em um aumento significativo na interação de fluidos com a superfície e também melhora das características adesivas do polímero.

ABSTRACT Green Polyethylene (PE) is a synthetic polymer that has low surface energy, which results in poor adhesion properties. This factor causes some problems regarding the practical applications of polymers, such as poor adherence of printing inks, coatings, adhesives and metals to the surface of the polymer, among others. One way to alter this property is by applying a plasma treatment. In this sense, the objective of this work was to prepare, by flat extrusion, biocomposite films with Green PE matrix (PEPURO) and load of Expanded Vermiculite Clay (VMT) in the 1% content. The films were treated by plasma under two different conditions: under O2 atmosphere (C1); (Ar/H2) and a subsequent treatment by plasma under O2 (C2) atmosphere. The results indicated that the plasma treatments and the incorporation of VMT increased the hydrophilicity of the films, and the application of condition 2 (C2) was shown more efficiently. The untreated PEPURO presented a significant reduction of maximum tensile strength with the insertion of VMT, already with the application of treatments (C1 and C2) the resistance values were higher. In relation to the roughness it was possible to verify that the application of the plasma increased the surface roughness of the samples. These results indicated that increased hydrophilicity and roughness resulted in a significant increase in the interaction of fluids with the surface and also improvement of the adhesive characteristics of the polymer.

RESUMO OBJETIVO Estimar a cobertura das atividades de controle da leishmaniose visceral e relacioná-las com a ocorrência de leishmaniose visceral em humanos em área urbana endêmica. MÉTODOS Foram considerados como população de estudo os casos de leishmaniose visceral em humanos e em cães avaliados por inquérito sorológico censitário realizado em Araçatuba, SP, de 2007 a 2015. Os casos de leishmaniose visceral em humanos foram geocodificados pelo endereço de residência dos pacientes e, os cães, pelo endereço de residências dos respectivos tutores. Foram calculadas as coberturas do inquérito sorológico, da eutanásia e de borrifação de inseticida, as soroprevalências caninas e as taxas de incidência de leishmaniose visceral em humanos. A relação entre a leishmaniose visceral em humanos e as medidas de controle, bem como a soroprevalência foram avaliadas por comparação de mapas e por meio de regressão linear. A relação entre a doença canina e a humana também foi avaliada por meio da função K de Ripley . RESULTADOS As taxas de incidência de leishmaniose visceral em humanos apresentaram um período de declínio (2007 a 2009) e um período de estabilidade (2010 a 2015), comportamento semelhante ao das soroprevalências caninas. Em geral, a cobertura das medidas de controle foi baixa e a não associação com a incidência de leishmaniose visceral em humanos pode ser consequência do período analisado e do número pequeno de unidades analisadas (setores da Superintendência de Controle de Endemias). A distribuição dos casos humanos apresentou dependência espacial com a distribuição dos cães soropositivos de 2007 a 2009. CONCLUSÕES Este trabalho reafirmou a relação entre a ocorrência da doença no homem e no cão, verificou a diminuição das taxas de leishmaniose visceral em humanos e em cães em Araçatuba ao longo do tempo, mesmo em baixa cobertura das atividades de controle. Entretanto, novos estudos são necessários para averiguar se fatores além das atividades de vigilância e controle estariam envolvidos na diminuição das incidências.

The cases of human visceral leishmaniasis were geocoded by the address of the patients and the canine disease by the address of the dogs’ owners. The coverage of serological survey, euthanasia, and insecticide spraying was calculated, as well as the canine seroprevalence and the incidence rates of human visceral leishmaniasis. The relationship between human visceral leishmaniasis and control measures was evaluated, as well as the seroprevalence by comparing maps and by linear regression. The relationship between the canine and the human disease was also evaluated by the Ripley’s K function. RESULTS The incidence rates of human visceral leishmaniasis showed a period of decline (2007 to 2009) and a period of stability (2010 to 2015), a behavior similar to that of canine seroprevalence. In general, the coverage of control measures was low, and the non-association with the incidence of human visceral leishmaniasis can be a result of the period analyzed and of the small number of analyzed units (sectors of the Superintendence for the Control of Endemic Diseases). The distribution of human cases showed spatial dependence with the distribution of seropositive dogs from 2007 to 2009. CONCLUSIONS This study reaffirmed the relationship between the occurrence of the disease in humans and dogs, it verified a decrease in the rates of visceral leishmaniasis in Araçatuba over time, even at low coverage of control activities. However, further studies are needed to determine if factors beyond monitoring and control measures are involved in the reduction of incidences.

RESUMO Distúrbios na coativação e diminuição de força muscular são frequentemente descritos em indivíduos hemiparéticos. Alterações do comprimento muscular decorrentes da mudança postural podem resultar em diferentes respostas de coativação e força desses indivíduos. O objetivo deste estudo foi avaliar a influência das posições sentada e supina no Índice de Coativação (ICa) e no pico de torque (PT) de indivíduos hemiparéticos crônicos pós-AVE. Participaram do estudo vinte indivíduos com média de 54±12,14 anos; Índice de Massa Corpórea médio de 26,93±3,34 kg/m²; tempo médio de AVE 55,85±49,4 meses; escore do miniexame do estado mental entre 27-30 e Fugl-Meyer do membro inferior entre 15-30. O registro eletromiográfico foi obtido enquanto os voluntários executavam cinco contrações isocinéticas (60º/s) de extensão e flexão do joelho, nas posições sentada e supina. O músculo semitendíneo do membro parético exibiu ICa menor na posição supina em comparação à sentada: 0,36±0,33; 0,44±0,33 (p=0,048). Não houve diferença no ICa do reto femoral entre as posições sentada (0,28±0,25) e supina (0,23±0,21). O PT dos músculos extensores e flexores do membro parético não variou entre as posições (PT extensor: sentado = 56,48±37,62Nm, supino = 52,29±32,37 Nm; PT flexor: sentado = 12±11,1Nm; supino = 10,95±6,4Nm). A posição supina mostrou menor ICa no músculo semitendíneo do membro parético. A mudança de posição não influenciou o ICa do músculo reto femoral nem o PT de ambos os grupos musculares do membro parético. Assim, a posição supina parece ser indicada durante mobilizações e treinamento de força desses músculos em pacientes hemiparéticos crônicos pós-AVE.

ABSTRACT Disorders in co-activation and decreased muscle strength are often described in hemiparetic subjects. Changes in muscle length resulting from postural change may result in different responses of co-activation and strength of these individuals. The objective of this study was to evaluate the influence of sitting and supine positions in Co-activation Index (CI) and peak torque (PT) of chronic hemiparetic subjects after stroke. The participants were twenty individuals with mean age of 54±12.14 years; mean body mass index of 26.93±3.34 kg/m²; average stroke time of 55.85±49.4 months; Mini-Mental State Examination score between 27-30; and Fugl-Meyer of lower limb between 15-30. The electromyographic record was obtained while the volunteers performed five isokinetic contractions (60º/s) of knee extension and flexion in the sitting and supine positions. The semitendinosus muscle of paretic limb exhibited lower CI in the supine position compared to sitting: 0.36±0.33; 0.44±0.33 (p=0.048). There was no difference in CI of the rectus femoris between positions: 0.28±0.25 sitting and 0.23±0.21 supine. The PT of extensor and flexor muscles of the paretic limb did not vary between positions (PT extensor: sitting = 56.48±37.62 Nm, supine = 52.29±32.37 Nm; PT flexor: sitting = 12±11.1 Nm, supine = 10.95±6.4 Nm). The supine position showed lower CI in the semitendinosus muscle of paretic limb. The change of position did not influence the CI of rectus femoris muscle neither the PT of both muscle groups of the paretic limb. Thus, the supine position appears to be indicated during movement and strength training of these muscles in chronic hemiparetic patients after stroke.

RESUMEN Los trastornos en la coactivación y disminución de la fuerza muscular están frecuentemente descriptos en sujetos hemiparéticos. Las alteraciones del tamaño muscular debido al cambio postural a los sujetos les pueden resultar diferentes respuestas de coactivación y de fuerza. En este estudio se pretende evaluar la influencia de las posiciones sentada y supina en el Índice de Coactivación (ICa) y en el pico de torque (PT) de sujetos hemiparéticos crónicos pos-ACV. Veinte personas han participado del estudio con promedio de 54±12,14 años; Índice de Masa Corporal promedio de 26,93±3,34kg/m²; promedio de tiempo del ACV de 55,85±49,4 meses; puntuación del Mini-Examen Cognoscitivo entre 27-30 y Fugl-Meyer del miembro inferior entre 15-30. Se obtuvo el registro electomiográfico mientras los participantes ejercían cinco contracciones isocinéticas (60º/s) de extensión y de flexión de la rodilla, en las posiciones sentada y supina. El músculo semitendinoso del miembro parético presentó ICa menor en la posición supina que en la sentada: 0,36±0,33; 0,44±0,33 (p=0,048). No hubo diferencias en el ICa del recto femoral entre las posiciones sentada (0,28±0,25) y supina (0,23±0,21). El PT de los músculos extensores y flexores del miembro parético no presentó variación entre las posiciones (PT extensor: sentada = 56,48±37,62Nm, supina = 52,29±32,37Nm; PT flexor: sentada = 12±11,1Nm; supina = 10,95±6,4Nm). La posición supina mostró menor ICa en el músculo semitendinoso del miembro parético. El cambio de posición no influyó el ICa del músculo recto femoral tampoco el PT de ambos grupos musculares del miembro parético. De esta manera, la posición supina parece ser la indicada durante movilizaciones y entrenamientos de fuerza de dichos músculos de sujetos hemiparéticos crónicos pos-ACV.

O presente estudo avaliou a participação de agentes bacterianos e virais em abortos em bovinos de propriedades rurais do sul de Minas Gerais. Foi realizada análise histopatológica e imuno-histoquímica dos casos de aborto recebidos pelo Setor de Patologia Veterinária da Universidade Federal de Lavras no período de 1999 a 2013. De 60 fetos analisados, em 30 (50%) foram observadas lesões microscópicas. Destes, oito apresentavam lesões compatíveis com infecção por agentes bacterianos e três apresentaram lesões sugestivas de agentes virais. Dos abortos bacterianos, um feto tinha lesões compatíveis com leptospirose, caracterizadas por icterícia e colestase, nefrite intersticial linfoplasmocítica e nefrose tubular. Sete fetos apresentaram pneumonia ou broncopneumonia purulenta; num deles havia também pleurite e peritonite fibrinosas; e em dois desses fetos houve imunomarcação para Brucella abortus. Dos três fetos com lesões sugestivas de aborto viral ocorreu imunomarcação anti-Herpesvírus bovino em um. Os resultados demonstram a ocorrência de abortos de origem bacteriana e viral na Região do estudo e que medidas profiláticas devem ser adotadas nas propriedades. O trabalho demonstra também que a imuno-histoquímica (IHQ); associada à histopatologia; é uma ferramenta útil e viável para o diagnóstico, especialmente quando provas microbiológicas e/ou sorológicas não estão disponíveis.

The paper evaluates the participation of bacterial and viral agents in bovine abortions in farms of southern Minas Gerais state, Brazil. Histopathological and immunohistochemical analysis was performed in aborted fetuses of cattle received by the Setor de Patologia Veterinária, Universidade Federal de Lavras, from 1999 to 2013. From 60 fetuses studied, 30 (50%) had microscopic lesions. From these, eight had lesions consistent with bacterial agents and three had lesions suggestive of viral agents. In the bacterial abortions, one fetus presented lesions compatible with leptospirosis, characterized by jaundice, cholestasis, lymphoplasmacytic intersticial nephritis, and tubular nephrosis. Seven fetuses had purulent pneumonia or bronchopneumonia and one of them had also fibrinous pleuritis and peritonitis; two of them presented positive immunostaining for Brucella abortus. One of the three fetuses with lesions of viral infection revealed positive imunostaining for bovine herpesvirus. The results showed that abortions of bacterial and viral origin occur in the Region of this study and prophylactic measures should be adopted on the farms. This study also demonstrates that immunohistochemistry associated with histopathology is a useful and viable tool for the diagnosis, especially when microbiological and/or serological tests are not available.

Este é um artigo de caráter expositivo, no qual discutimos uma variedade de tópicos relacionados aos fundamentos da física quântica, com destaque para os conceitos de identidade e de individualidade das entidades básicas tratadas por essa teoria (ou grupo de teorias). Consideramos que, se se deseja fundamentar a contraparte formal de uma possível visão das entidades quânticas como objetos destituídos de individualidade, há basicamente duas alternativas possíveis: (a) manter-nos no escopo da lógica e da matemática tradicionais, digamos em uma teoria de conjuntos como Zermelo-Fraenkel, e, nesse caso, podemos ou assumir certas condições de simetria que de certo modo nos permitem falar da não individualidade, ou restringir-nos a certas classes nas quais apenas uma relação mais fraca de indistinguibilidade está definida; (b) elaborar uma teoria matemática nova, na qual certa forma de não individualidade está ab initio incorporada para algumas das entidades. Discutimos a primeira hipótese apresentando "modelos internos" de ZFU e ZFC, onde a identidade é restrita de alguma forma, e comentamos vantagens e desvantagens dessa abordagem. Motivada pela segunda hipótese, é então desenvolvida, em seus traços principais, o que poderia ser uma mecânica quântica fundamentada em uma das possíveis teorias de conjuntos distintas das clássicas, a teoria de quase conjuntos. Como a lógica subjacente à teoria de quase conjuntos é uma lógica não reflexiva, a mecânica correspondente é denominada de mecânica quântica não reflexiva.

This is an expository article in which we discuss a cluster of topics related to the foundations of quantum physics, mainly regarding the concepts of identity and of individuality of the basic entities dealt with by the theory (or group of theories). We propose that, if one wants to ground the formal counterpart of a possible view of quantum entities as objects devoid of individuality, there are basically two possible alternatives: (a) to maintain classical logic and standard mathematics, say by using a set theory such as the Zermelo-Fraenkel system - in this case we can either assume certain symmetry conditions that enable us to speak about the non-individuality of the quantum entities, or restrict ourselves to certain classes in which only a weaker relation of indistinguishability is defined; (b) to elaborate a new mathematical theory, in which the non-individuality of certain objects is assumed ab initio. After discussing the first alternative by presenting "inner models" of ZFU and of ZFC set theories, in which identity is restricted in some way, we comment on its advantages and disadvantages. Then, motivated by the second hypothesis, we sketch the main aspects of what could be taken as a quantum mechanics grounded on a possible set theory, quasi-set theory, that departs from the standard systems. Since the underlying logic of quasi-set theory is a non-reflexive logic, we call the corresponding mechanics non-reflexive quantum mechanics.
