Methods: Retrospective and observational study, including pediatric patients treated with hyperbaric oxygen therapy, from 2006 to 2021, at the hyperbaric medicine reference center in the north of Portugal. Variables of interest were extracted from electronic medical records. Results: Our study included 134 patients. The most frequent reasons for referral were carbon monoxide poisoning (n=59) and sudden sensorineural hearing loss (n=41). In 75 cases (56%), treatment was initiated in an urgent context. Symptom presentation at Emergency Department varied among patients, the most frequent being headache and nausea/vomiting. Concerning carbon monoxide poisoning, the most common sources were water heater, fireplace/brazier, and boiler. Regarding adverse effects, it was identified one case of intoxication by oxygen and four cases of middle ear barotrauma. Conclusions: The most frequent cause for referral was carbon monoxide poisoning. All patients evolved favorably, with few side effects being reported, emphasizing the safety of this therapy. While most pediatricians may not be aware of the potential benefits arising with hyperbaric oxygen therapy, it is of upmost importance to promote them, so that this technique is increasingly implemented. This work aimed to incorporate the active compounds of the jambolan leaf in sunflower seed oil, in order to increase the nutritional quality of the oil. For this purpose, ultrasound-assisted extraction was conducted to establish the process conditions related to temperature, potency, solvent:sample ratio and time to obtain the enriched sunflower seed oil (ESSO). An experimental design was applied to examine the effect of variables (temperature, power, solvent:sample ratio and time) on the extraction mass yield (EMY). The application of maximum temperature, increased power, sample:solvent ratio and time resulted in higher EMY. Maximum theoretical EMY value was 35.16% (60 °C, 100%, 1:12 g mL-1 and 15 min). The characterization of the oils obtained from ESSO and sunflower seed oil (SSO) verified a higher content of flavonoids, phenolic compounds, a large proportion of active compounds, antioxidant activity, content of phytosterols, α-tocopherol and squalene, and induction time for ESSO. purpose ultrasoundassisted ultrasound assisted temperature potency solventsample solvent sample . ABSTRACT: Psidiummyrtoides fruits food industries produce by-products such as liqueurs, ice cream, jellies, and juices. However, there needs to be more information about the nutritional composition of fruits, as well as the biological potential, mainly of seed flour. Therefore, the present study aimed to evaluate the nutritional composition and antioxidant and cancer chemopreventive activities of pulp and seed of fruits of Psidiummyrtoides. Moisture content, total minerals and mineral profile, total lipids and fatty acids profile, total proteins, dietary fiber (soluble and insoluble) and total carbohydrates were analyzed. Vitamins C and complex B, organic acids and the profile of phenolic compounds were also determined. DPPH and ABTS methods evaluated the antioxidant activity, and cancer chemopreventive activity was evaluated by quinone reductase induction and NF-κB inhibitory activity. The fruits are a good source of thiamine, iron, phosphorus, potassium, fiber, and protein. Linoleic acid was the major fatty acid in both pulp and seed. Quercetin (1600 µg/100g) and pyrogallol(819 µg/100g) were the major phenolic compounds pulp and seed, respectively. The fruits showed strong antioxidant capacity, mainly the seeds, and the ability to induce quinone reductase activity, highlighting a cancer chemopreventive activity. Seed flour has a high potential to enrich food, in addition to valuing agro-industrial by-products, where we can highlight 25%, 13% and 37% of the recommended daily intake for iron (1.6 mg/100g), phosphorus (58 mg/100g) and vitamin B1 (450 µg/100g), respectively, in addition to antioxidant and cancer chemopreventive activities. Abstract The objective of the study was to determine the spatial distribution patterns of Pinus and Quercus species along an altitudinal gradient in a temperate forest in northwestern Mexico. Individual uniformity (W i ), species mixture (M i ), and size dominance (U i ) were analyzed using structural parameters based on the relationships with the four nearest neighbors. Data were obtained from 37 sampling sites at three different altitude levels (Level 1: 2 200-2 600 m, Level 2: 2 600-2 800 m, and Level 3: 2 800-3 200 m), generating a total of 979 structural groups for all species. Pinus contributed 191, 51, and 41 groups at levels 1, 2, and 3, while Quercus contributed 192, one and zero, respectively. Pinus showed a tendency towards randomness, as did the oaks at Level 1; although, in this analysis, it was observed that at higher altitudes, Pinus tends towards a regular distribution. The species mix was medium to high for Pinus, which indicates that its individuals are surrounded by trees of different species, unlike Quercus. Size dominance revealed that Pinus specimens are taller than those of the Quercus genus throughout the gradient, especially at Level I. This approach provides an accurate understanding of the role of species in forest ecosystem dynamics.

Abstract Small joints are the primary target for rheumatoid arthritis (RA). However, few studies have investigated the quantitative aspects of these changes using a design-unbiased stereological method. Eight male Lewis rats were randomized to either an arthritis group (complete Freund’s adjuvant at the base of the tail) or a control group (saline solution). After 28 days the 5th metatarsophalangeal joints (5MTP joint) were decalcified and embedded in methylmethacrylate. The fingers were systematically sectioned perpendicular to the joint cartilage surface to produce 10-12 vertical sections. We quantified the morphological changes in four steps: (i) determination of the Cavalieri volume of joints, (ii) ascertainment of the volume density of tissues, (iii) estimation of the cartilage surface area, and (iv) 3-D counting of chondrocytes and mast cells. Arthritic joints were edematous due to a significant increase in the periarticular region. Synovium volume was inversely related to synovial space. Stereological analysis provided details of changes induced by chronic inflammation, particularly edema, synovial space narrowing, synovitis, mast cell recruitment, bone remodeling, and chondrocyte loss in 5MTP joints. These interrelated pathological changes in chronic inflammation collectively contribute to the progressive joint damage and dysfunction seen in arthritis. RA. RA . ABSTRACT Objective This study aimed to provide a long-term follow-up of PRKAG2 syndrome and describe the new phenotypic aspects of the condition. PRKAG2 syndrome is a rare autosomal-dominant glycogen storage disease characterized by cardiac hypertrophy, ventricular pre-excitation, and conduction system disease. Fatal arrhythmias occur frequently. Methods A family cohort of 66 participants was recruited. Clinical and genetic analyses were performed. Results Median age of 36.97±17.28 years, with 69.9% being men. Nineteen subjects carried the deleterious variant p.K290I of the PRKAG2 gene. This group experienced many malignant events, including eight pacemaker implants, three sudden cardiac deaths, five aborted cardiac arrests, four strokes, four premature neonatal deaths, two spontaneous abortions, five forceps deliveries, and 12 cesarean procedures. Extracardiac involvement, such as in neurocognitive and psychiatric disorders, has been observed only in carriers of mutations. Palpitations, Syncope, atrial fibrillation, atrial flutter, sinus pauses, and bradycardia were strongly and significantly associated with major or severe adverse events (sudden cardiac death, aborted cardiac arrest, pacemaker use, stroke, and congestive heart failure). Early diagnosis and intervention through antiarrhythmic drugs, anticoagulation, pacemaker implantation, radiofrequency catheter ablation, and cesarean section surgery improved the symptoms and survival rates. Mutations carriers were advised to avoid pregnancy. Conclusion This study identified that the p.K291I_PRKAG2 mutation is associated with poor prognosis, highlighting the need for early intervention. Further research may uncover the potential connections between intellectual disability, miscarriage, and neonatal death in individuals with this syndrome. longterm long term followup follow up PRKAG condition autosomaldominant autosomal dominant hypertrophy preexcitation, preexcitation pre excitation, excitation pre-excitation frequently 6 recruited performed 36971728 36 97 17 28 36.97±17.2 years 699 69 9 69.9 men pK290I pKI p K290I K I gene implants deaths arrests strokes abortions deliveries 1 procedures involvement disorders mutations Palpitations Syncope fibrillation flutter pauses arrest use stroke failure. failure . failure) drugs anticoagulation implantation ablation rates pregnancy pK291IPRKAG2 pKIPRKAG K291I p.K291I_PRKAG prognosis disability miscarriage 3697172 3 2 36.97±17. 69. pK KI IPRKAG pK291IPRKAG 369717 36.97±17 36971 36.97±1 3697 36.97± 369 36.97 36.9 36.

Abstract Remote teaching ensured social distancing for students and education professional during the Covid-19 pandemic, but received criticism from various sectors of Brazilian society, including education and psychology institutions. Given the lack of academic discussion concerning the phenomenon, this article identifies and analyzes criticisms made by education and psychology institutes to remote teaching in basic education. A qualitative and documentary research was conducted with 34 documents, published between March 11 and May 11, 2020 by six entities. Content analysis extracted 143 excerpts, which were organized into five categories. Results show that remote teaching is detrimental to the teaching-learning process: limited or non-existent access of students and their families to technological resources; precariousness of teaching work; violation of the right to education; commodification of education; and stripping of the school’s social role. Developed in a rapid and decontextualized manner, disregarding socioeconomic and racial markers, remote teaching increased teaching work and further expanded educational inequalities, which proved to be political and technical government strategies. Attacks on public schools increase in an ultraliberal and obscurantist context, but not without popular, democratic and libertarian resistance. This dispute is extended and updated in the pandemic context, as evinced by the institutional manifestations. Although they all present criticisms, these are neither homogeneous nor based on the same interests, with some showing concern for the market while others focus on constitutional rights. ABSTRACT The limited temporal completeness and taxonomic accuracy of species lists, made available in a traditional manner in scientific publications, has always represented a problem. These lists are invariably limited to a few taxonomic groups and do not represent up-to-date knowledge of all species and classifications. In this context, the Brazilian megadiverse fauna is no exception, and the Catálogo Taxonômico da Fauna do Brasil (CTFB) (http://fauna.jbrj.gov.br/), made public in 2015, represents a database on biodiversity anchored on a list of valid and expertly recognized scientific names of animals in Brazil. The CTFB is updated in near real time by a team of more than 800 specialists. By January 1, 2024, the CTFB compiled 133,691 nominal species, with 125,138 that were considered valid. Most of the valid species were arthropods (82.3%, with more than 102,000 species) and chordates (7.69%, with over 11,000 species). These taxa were followed by a cluster composed of Mollusca (3,567 species), Platyhelminthes (2,292 species), Annelida (1,833 species), and Nematoda (1,447 species). All remaining groups had less than 1,000 species reported in Brazil, with Cnidaria (831 species), Porifera (628 species), Rotifera (606 species), and Bryozoa (520 species) representing those with more than 500 species. Analysis of the CTFB database can facilitate and direct efforts towards the discovery of new species in Brazil, but it is also fundamental in providing the best available list of valid nominal species to users, including those in science, health, conservation efforts, and any initiative involving animals. The importance of the CTFB is evidenced by the elevated number of citations in the scientific literature in diverse areas of biology, law, anthropology, education, forensic science, and veterinary science, among others. publications problem uptodate up date classifications context exception (CTFB http//fauna.jbrj.gov.br/, httpfaunajbrjgovbr http //fauna.jbrj.gov.br/ , jbrj gov br (http://fauna.jbrj.gov.br/) 2015 Brazil 80 specialists 1 2024 133691 133 691 133,69 125138 125 138 125,13 82.3%, 823 82 3 (82.3% 102000 102 000 102,00 7.69%, 769 7 69 (7.69% 11000 11 11,00 . 3,567 3567 567 (3,56 2,292 2292 2 292 (2,29 1,833 1833 833 (1,83 1,447 1447 447 (1,44 1000 1,00 831 (83 628 (62 606 (60 520 (52 50 users science health biology law anthropology education others http//fauna.jbrj.gov.br/ faunajbrjgovbr //fauna.jbrj.gov.br (http://fauna.jbrj.gov.br/ 201 8 202 13369 13 133,6 12513 12 125,1 82.3% (82.3 10200 10 00 102,0 7.69% 76 6 (7.69 1100 11,0 3,56 356 56 (3,5 2,29 229 29 (2,2 1,83 183 83 (1,8 1,44 144 44 (1,4 100 1,0 (8 62 (6 60 52 (5 5 http//fauna.jbrj.gov.br (http://fauna.jbrj.gov.br 20 1336 133, 1251 125, 82.3 (82. 1020 0 102, 7.69 (7.6 110 11, 3,5 35 (3, 2,2 22 (2, 1,8 18 (1, 1,4 14 4 ( 82.
ABSTRACT Background: Earlobe crease (ELC) has been associated with coronary atherosclerosis. Recently, ELC has been associated with white matter hyperintensities (WMH) of presumed vascular origin. However, the results are heterogeneous among studies. We aimed to assess whether ELC is associated with WMH severity and progression in community-dwelling older adults. Methods: Atahualpa Project Cohort participants received earlobe photographs and brain MRIs to assess the association between ELC and WMH severity, as well as the relationship between ELC and WMH progression using ordinal logistic and Poisson regression models, respectively. Results: The cross-sectional component of the study included 359 individuals aged ≥60 years. ELC was present in 175 subjects. On MRI, 107 participants did not have WMH, 174 had mild, 56 had moderate, and 22 had severe WMH. A multivariate ordinal logistic regression model did not show a significant association between the main variables investigated (OR: 0.72; 95% C.I.: 0.48 - 1.06). The longitudinal component included 252 individuals, 126 of whom had ELC and 103 had WMH progression. A Poisson regression model showed no association between ELC and WMH progression (IRR: 1.02; 95% C.I.: 0.69 - 1.51). Conclusions: ELC is not related to WMH severity and progression in the study population.

The objective of this study was to evaluate the effect of pasteurization, lyophilization and spray-drying on the lipid profile of donated human milk (DHM) at different lactation stages. Nine frozen samples of colostrum, transitional and raw mature human milk (HM) were collected from the Human Milk Bank (HMB) of the Hospital Universitário de Maringá (HUM). Samples were thawed and pooled according to lactation stage. Thereafter, it was submitted to pasteurization, lyophilization and spray-drying processes and later the fatty acid (FA) composition and the lipid profile analyses were performed. Gas chromatograph (GC) with flame ionization detector (FID) and electrospray ionization (ESI) mass spectrometer (MS) were used, respectively. In the FA composition analysis, it was observed that the same classes of saturated FA (SFA), monounsaturated FA (MUFA) and polyunsaturated FA (PUFA) were preserved throughout the process and in all lactation stages. The lipid profiles were also preserved after processing. Therefore, the lyophilization and spray-drying processes are promising techniques to preserve the DHM in the HMB, once the components evaluated were preserved, and both techniques facilitate the transport and storage, as the techniques reduce the sample volume. pasteurization spraydrying spray drying (DHM stages colostrum HM (HM HMB (HMB HUM. In this work, the local electrochemical activity of the zones coupled by Friction Stir Welding (FSW) of an Al-Cu-Li alloy was studied and the results were correlated to the microstructural characteristics of each zone. Electrochemical studies were carried out in the zones affected by welding using cyclic voltammetry (CV) and scanning electrochemical techniques (namely, SECM - Scanning Electrochemical Microscopy and LEIS - Local electrochemical impedance spectroscopy). The results showed that the welding joint (WJ) is predominantly cathodic relatively to the heat affected zones (HAZ). The HAZ was always anodic and showed the highest electrochemical activities among the tested ones. The high electrochemical activity of the HAZ was associated with the effect of galvanic coupling between the cathodic region (WJ) and the anodic region (HAZ). In addition, the advancing side (AS) presented increased electrochemical activity compared to the retreating one (RS). work FSW (FSW AlCuLi Al Cu Li zone CV (CV namely, namely (namely spectroscopy. spectroscopy . spectroscopy) WJ (WJ HAZ. Abstract Currently, there is no consensus on the indications and clinical performance of implant-supported overdentures (IODs) involving computer-aided design and manufacturing (CAD-CAM) bars. Objective: To evaluate the performance of IODs involving CAD-CAM bars. Methodology: A comprehensive search of studies published until May 2023 was conducted in many databases, including PubMed/MEDLINE, Web of Science, Cochrane Library, and SciELO, following the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA). The population, intervention, comparison, outcome (PICO) question was: “How do IODs retained by bars fabricated by CAD-CAM technology perform in daily clinical practice?” The meta-analysis included clinical studies based on effect size and a two-tailed null test with a 95% confidence interval (CI). Results: Ten studies were included in the meta-analysis. Among them, nine reported a 100% implant survival rate for all CAD-CAM milled bars. Complications were reported in two studies with CAD/CAM-milled titanium bars, and one study reported more fractures in soldered gold bars used in maxillary rehabilitation. However, no fractures were observed in IODs retained by PEEK and zirconia bars. According to six studies, biological complications, including peri-implantitis, were minimal in the BioHPP and PEEK bar groups, while no cases were reported in the titanium or zirconia bar groups. CAD-CAM-milled zirconia bars had higher plaque and bleeding indices compared with titanium bars, as evidenced by findings from five studies. All four studies that evaluated Oral Health Impact Profile (OHIP) scores showed a positive effect of IODs retained by CAD-CAM milled titanium bars on quality of life. Patient satisfaction and acceptance by prosthodontists were significantly high, according to the results of five studies. Conclusion: Overdentures retained with CAD-CAM milled titanium bars show great potential for use in daily clinical practice. Moreover, patient and practitioner satisfaction was very high when this method was used.
Abstract In this study, a new species of Rhyacoglanis is described from the Jamanxim River basin, Tapajós River basin. The new species differs from congeners based on the combination of the following diagnostic characters: two oblique dark bands formed by an agglomerate of melanophores on the predorsal region; dorsal confluence between the dark subdorsal and subadipose bands in large juveniles and adults; ventral confluence between the dark subadipose and caudal peduncle bands; body without conspicuous dark brown spots; complete dark band on caudal peduncle; body with three dark bands; a thin dark caudal-fin band; pectoral-fin spine with anterior serrae distributed along the entire margin; the posterior tip of the post-cleithral process reaching vertical through the base of the dorsal-fin spine; and hypural 5 free of hypural 3 and 4 and pointed caudal-fin lobes. Additionally, our molecular phylogenetic results using ultraconserved elements (UCEs) corroborate the new species as Rhyacoglanis and sister to an undescribed species of Rhyacoglanis from the Xingu River basin. Moreover, as pointed out in previous studies, we confirm Cruciglanis as a sister group to Pseudopimelodus plus Rhyacoglanis. study basin characters region adults spots caudalfin fin pectoralfin pectoral margin postcleithral post cleithral dorsalfin lobes Additionally UCEs (UCEs Moreover studies

ABSTRACT Brazil has immense potential in the production of quartz and its gem varieties, consequently generating huge amounts of waste. This research aims to utilize the amethyst quartz tailings from the Alto Bonito mine-Brazil accumulated for decades in waste dumps, through a specific study of cementitious mortar production, considering the mineralogical and chemical characterization; evaluation the use of tailings as a fine aggregate for mortar production; estimate the technical feasibility through mechanical tests and; characterize of specimens by SEM after breakage. The tailings are quartz associated with mica. Quartz is polycrystalline with medium to fine grain, being SiO2 the main component. The comminuted tailings showed a very fine fineness modulus, affecting the formulations. With cement:tailings (1:3) traces the mechanical tests show 5.65 Mpa and 1.05 Mpa to compressive and flexural strength respectively, slightly below the reference. The fine-sized and metamorphic morphology of the tailings affects the mechanical strength of the mortar. The process adopted in the production of mortars with total replacement of the fine aggregate have a great impact contributing to the reduction of waste in dumps, minimizing the environmental impact of mining, in addition to benefiting the Amethyst Miners Cooperative. varieties mineBrazil mine dumps characterization breakage mica grain SiO component modulus formulations cementtailings cement 13 1 3 (1:3 565 5 65 5.6 105 05 1.0 respectively reference finesized sized mining Cooperative (1: 56 6 5. 10 0 1.
