ABSTRACT Salinity is one of the most limiting factors for agricultural productivity, as it affects both gas exchange and plant metabolism. However, with population growth and the constant search for alternatives to increase productivity, irrigation with water of moderate salinity appears to be feasible to enhance fruit cultivation in Brazil, especially in semi-arid regions, where most waters have high salt concentration and are the only available source for the producer. In this context, the objective of this study was to evaluate the effects of irrigation water salinity and harvest stages on gas exchange and post-harvest fruit quality of ‘Goldex’ yellow melon (Cucumis melo L.). The treatments consisted of two electrical conductivities of irrigation water (ECw - 0.8 and 4.0 dS m-1) and eight harvest stages (54, 56, 58, 60, 62, 64, 66, and 68 days after transplanting), arranged in a 2 × 8 factorial scheme and a completely randomized design. Under the salinity conditions imposed during the evaluation stages, the ‘Goldex’ yellow melon maintained its basic gas exchanges stable. RESUMO A salinidade é um dos fatores mais limitantes para a produtividade agrícola, pois afeta tanto as trocas gasosas quanto o metabolismo das plantas. Porém, com o crescimento populacional e a busca constante por alternativas para aumentar a produtividade, a irrigação com águas de salinidade moderada parece ser viável para potencializar a fruticultura no Brasil, especialmente nas regiões semiáridas, onde a maioria das águas tem alta concentração de sal e são as únicas fontes disponíveis para o produtor. Abstract Introduction: Nurses' intervention in the process of parental grief within primary healthcare reflects a fundamental health need, supporting couples in the experience of transition following the death of a child. It is crucial to value the functional and emotional balance of the family, as well as the grieving experience and associated feelings. Goals: To map the scientific evidence on nursing interventions within primary healthcare aimed at couples grieving the death of a child. Methods: A Scoping Review conducted following the PRISMA-ScR methodology and PCC mnemonic: population, concept, and context. Searches were performed in PubMed, CINAHL Complete, B-On, Science Direct, and RCAAP databases. Studies published in Portuguese, Spanish, and English from 2018 to 2023 were included. Identified studies were organized using Rayyan®, and their relevance was analyzed by two independent reviewers. Out of 1021 available articles, seven were included in the review. Results: Four themes emerged from the analysis: grief manifestations (denial, anger, bargaining, depression, acceptance); attitudes and behaviors promoting adaptive grief (religion, rituals, end-of-life care at home, redefining life goals, time occupation, self-care); obstacles to adaptive grief (insufficient professional support and behaviors of others); and support networks for parental grief (formal and informal). Final considerations: The grief experiences of couples allowed mapping of Family Health Nursing interventions aimed at couples grieving the death of a child, highlighting their priority, as well as the need for professional training in this area.

Resumo Introdução: A intervenção dos enfermeiros no processo de luto parental, em cuidados de saúde primários, espelha uma necessidade de saúde basilar, assistindo na vivência de um processo de transição pelo casal. Torna-se crucial a valorização do equilíbrio funcional e emocional da família, bem como a experiência de luto e os sentimentos vivenciados. Objetivo: Mapear a evidência científica sobre as intervenções de enfermagem, em cuidados de saúde primários, dirigidas ao casal enlutado pela morte de um filho. Metodologia: Scoping Review realizada de acordo com a metodologia PRISMA-ScR e a mnemónica PCC: população, conceito e contexto. Pesquisa realizada nas bases de dados PubMed, CINAHL Complete, B-On, Science Direct e RCAAP. Estudos publicados em português, espanhol e inglês foram incluídos, com o limite temporal 2018-2023. Os estudos identificados foram organizados no Rayyan®, e a sua relevância, analisada por dois revisores independentes. Dos 1021 artigos disponíveis, sete foram incluídos na revisão. Resultados: Da análise emergiram quatro temas: manifestações de luto (negação, raiva, negociação, depressão, aceitação); atitudes e comportamentos promotores de luto adaptativo (religião, rituais, fim de vida no domicílio, redefinição de objetivos de vida, ocupação do tempo, autocuidado); obstáculos ao luto adaptativo (apoio dos profissionais insuficiente e comportamentos de outras pessoas) e redes de apoio no luto parental (formal e informal). Considerações finais: As experiências de luto vivenciadas pelo casal, permitiram mapear as intervenções de Enfermagem de Saúde Familiar dirigidas ao casal pela morte do filho, as quais emergem como prioritárias, bem como a formação profissional na área.

Abstract Background: Fondaparinux is an effective and safe anticoagulant in the treatment of acute coronary syndromes (ACS). However, due to the low representation of obese individuals in clinical trials, the effects of applying the results of this drug to this population remain uncertain. Objectives: To compare Fondaparinux to Enoxaparin in the treatment of obese patients with ACS. Methods: This is a retrospective cohort study, including obese individuals (BMI ≥ 30 Kg/m2) admitted with non-ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction (NSTEMI) or unstable angina (UA) and treated with Fondaparinux or Enoxaparin between 2010 and 2020. The Fondaparinux and Enoxaparin groups were compared for their clinical and laboratory characteristics using chi-square and Mann-Whitney tests, as appropriate. The incidence of primary outcomes (death, reinfarction, stroke, major bleeding) was compared between groups. P-value < 0.05 was considered significant for all analyses. Results: A total of 367 obese patients with NSTEMI or UA were included, of whom 258 used Fondaparinux and 109 used Enoxaparin. Mean age was 64 ± 12 years, and 52.9% were male. The prevalence of diabetes, hypertension, dyslipidemia, prior coronary artery disease, prior stroke, and implementation of invasive strategy was similar between groups. The incidence of the primary outcome was 4.7% in the Fondaparinux group and 5.5% in the Enoxaparin group (p = 0.729). There was no difference between groups when analyzing the components of the primary outcome separately. Resumo Fundamento: O fondaparinux é um anticoagulante eficaz e seguro usado no tratamento de síndromes coronarianas agudas (SCAs). No entanto, devido à baixa representatividade de indivíduos obesos em ensaios clínicos, os efeitos de se aplicar os resultados desse medicamento nesta população continuam incertos. Objetivos: Comparar o fondaparinux à enoxaparina no tratamento de obesos com SCA. Métodos: Este é um estudo do tipo coorte retrospectivo, incluindo indivíduos obesos (IMC ≥ 30 Kg/m2) internados com Infarto do Miocárdio sem Elevação do Segmento ST (IAMSSST) ou Angina Instável (AI) e tratados com fondaparinux ou enoxaparina entre 2010 e 2020. Os grupos que receberam fondaparinux e enoxaparina foram comparados quanto suas características clínicas e laboratoriais usando o teste do qui-quadrado e o teste de Mann-Whitney, conforme apropriado. A incidência dos desfechos primários (morte, reinfarto, acidente vascular cerebral, sangramento maior) foi comparada entre os grupos. Abstract Objetivo: Avaliar a concordância da terapêutica com medicamentos modificadores de prognóstico (MMP) em pessoas com insuficiência cardíaca crónica com fração de ejeção reduzida (P-CICFEr), em cuidados de saúde primários (CSP) na região Centro de Portugal, com as diretrizes da Sociedade Europeia de Cardiologia (ESC) de agosto de 2021. Métodos: Estudo observacional transversal de uma amostra representativa do tamanho, intervalo de confiança de 95% e margem de erro de 8%, da população com CICFEr em 31/dezembro/2021. Foram estudados idade, sexo, ano de diagnóstico da introdução da Classificação Internacional para Cuidados Primários-2 (ICPC-2, K-77), anos desde o último ecocardiograma, MMPs para P-CICFEr e outras terapêuticas para P-CICFEr. Participaram, convidadas por conveniência, 11 Unidades de Saúde Familiar após parecer positivo da Comissão de Ética. Resultados: Num universo de n=2.381 pessoas com insuficiência cardíaca (PCIC) encontraram-se n=453 (19,0%) (P-CICFEr) estudando-se uma amostra representativa de n=133 (5,6%), n=95 homens (71,4%). Verificou-se prescrição de medicamentos inibidores do sistema renina-angiotensina-aldosterona (iSRAA) 91,0%, de betabloqueadores em 75,2%, de antagonistas mineralocorticoides em 40,6%, de inibidores da SGLT2 em 44,4%, de inibidores da neprilisina em 38,3% e de diuréticos de ansa em 72,2%. A terapêutica farmacológica quádrupla verificou-se em n=28 (21,1%) P-CICFEr e a tripla em n=38 (28,6%). Verificou-se idade média de 74,3±11,6 anos, 75,1±4,0 no homem e 76,6±6,0 na mulher, p=0,088. A mediana de tempo desde o diagnóstico ICPC-2 foi de 6,0 anos no homem e de 4,0 anos na mulher, p=0,031. O tempo mediano desde o último ecocardiograma foi de três anos, p=0,750. Conclusão: Os medicamentos modificadores de prognóstico, segundo as diretrizes mais recentes da ESC para a CICFEr, estavam subutilizados em 50,4% dos casos. Apesar dos resultados encontrados é necessária reflexão acerca das barreiras que os médicos possam encontrar para aplicar as diretrizes em P-CICFEr.

Resumo Objective: To evaluate the accordance of prognostic medicines prescription (PMP), for persons with chronic heart failure with reduced ejection fraction (P-CHFrEF), attended in primary health care units in Central Portugal, with the European Society of Cardiology (ESC) 2021 August, guidelines. To know about mean age, median time since the diagnosis and last echocardiogram performance in P-CHFrEF. Methods: Observational, cross-sectional study of a random size representative sample, 95% confidence interval, and 8% error margin of the P-CHFrEF of a population on 31st December 2021. Age, gender, year of International Classification for Primary Care-2 (ICPC-2, K-77) problem classification input data, years since the last echocardiogram, ongoing PMP and the use of other chronic heart failure (CHF) drugs were gathered. Data were obtained from 11 Portugal Primary Health Care Units, invited by convenience, after an Ethics Committee approval. Results: From a universe of n=2,381 persons with CHF, n=453 (19.0%) P-CHFrEF was found. A size representative sample of P-CHFrEF of n=133 (5.6%), n=95 males (71.4%) was studied. Prescription of a renin-angiotensin system inhibitor (RAAS-I) was ongoing in 91.0%, beta-blocker (BB) in 75.2%, mineralocorticoid antagonists (MRA) in 40.6%, inhibitors of the sodium-glucose cotransporter-2 (SGLT2i) in 44.4%, neprilisine inhibitors 38.3% and loop diuretics in 72.2%. The optimized medical quadruple therapy was established in 28 patients (21.1%) and the triple one in 38 (28.6 %). Mean age was of 74.3±11.6 years, males 73.4±11.0 and females 76.6±12.9, p=0.088. The median time since the diagnosis was 6.0 for men and 4.0 for women, p=0.031. The median time since the last echocardiogram was 3.0, p=0.750 between genders. Conclusion: According to the 2021 ESC guidelines, prognostic modifying medicines were underused for 50.4% of P-CHFrEF. Even with these results, a reflection must be made, on the barriers physicians encounter, to comply with the ESC guidelines in such patients.

Abstract Sodium-glucose cotransporter 2 inhibitors (SGLT2i), originally developed as innovative antihyperglycemic agents, have demonstrated significant benefits in improving metabolic markers and protecting the kidneys and heart in patients with or without type 2 diabetes mellitus. The mechanisms behind these unexpected cardiorenal benefits cannot be attributed solely to improved glycemic control. Recent data suggest that metabolic reprogramming plays a role in the development of cardiorenal metabolic disease. Despite the effectiveness of SGLT2i in the management of chronic kidney disease (CKD)-related comorbidities in adults, their use in the pediatric population remains to be validated. The challenge in pediatric CKD lies in the imbalance between the metabolic needs of a growing child and the declining functional capacity of a failing kidney. Developing strategies to address modifiable factors in the progression of kidney disease is critical given the extended lifespan of the pediatric population. SGLT2i have emerged as innovative candidates for the treatment of CKD in children. By improving renal hemodynamic adaptation and mitigating overall CKD complications, these agents have the potential to be a novel therapeutic option for pediatric patients. This review will focus on the current understanding of how SGLT2i may provide cardiorenal protection.

Resumo Os inibidores do cotransportador 2 de sódio e glicose (SGLT2), inicialmente considerados medicamentos antihiperglicémicos inovadores, demonstraram benefícios significativos na melhoria dos marcadores metabólicos e na proteção renal e cardíaca em doentes com ou sem diabetes mellitus tipo 2. Estas vantagens cardiorenais inesperadas não podem ser atribuídas exclusivamente ao controle glicémico melhorado. Dados recentes sugerem que a reprogramação metabólica desempenha um papel no desenvolvimento de doenças metabólicas cardiorenais. Apesar da eficácia dos inibidores do SGLT2 no tratamento de comorbilidades associadas à doença renal crónica (DRC) em adultos, o seu uso na população pediátrica aguarda validação. O desafio na DRC pediátrica reside no desequilíbrio entre as necessidades metabólicas da criança em crescimento e a capacidade funcional diminuída do rim em falência. Face à expectativa de vida prolongada da população pediátrica, é fundamental o desenvolvimento de estratégias dirigidas a fatores modificáveis na progressão da DRC. Os inibidores do SGLT2 surgem como candidatos inovadores para o tratamento da DRC em crianças. Ao melhorar a adaptação hemodinâmica renal e mitigar as complicações gerais da DRC, estes agentes afiguram-se como uma potencial nova abordagem terapêutica para doentes pediátricos. Esta revisão incidirá no entendimento atual de como os inibidores do SGLT2 podem conferir proteção cardiorrenal.

Abstract Mercury retrograde is an astronomical phenomenon that makes it appear as if the planet has changed direction. It is said that this phenomenon generates chaos in the behaviour of people causing us to be sensitive and more susceptible than normal. This chaos could affect investor sentiment and lead to irrational and therefore unprofitable investment decisions. This article describes an algorithmic swing trading system in the future of the Ibex 35, which takes a short position when entering the mercury retrograde phase. The results of the back test carried out over the last five years show that the System is profitable, and that the sentiment caused by this astronomical phenomenon affects the financial markets.

Resumen Mercurio retrógrado es un fenómeno astronómico que hace que parezca que el planeta ha cambiado de dirección. Se dice que este fenómeno genera caos en el comportamiento de las personas provocando que estén sensibles y más susceptibles de lo normal. Este caos podría afectar al sentimiento del inversor y provocar decisiones de inversión irracionales y por tanto poco rentables. En este artículo se describe un sistema swing de trading algorítmico en el futuro del Ibex 35, que toma una posición corta cuando se entra en fase de Mercurio retrógrado. Los resultados del back test realizado a lo largo de los últimos cinco años muestran que el sistema es rentable y que el sentimiento provocado por este fenómeno astronómico afecta a los mercados financieros.

The scope of action of oral health teams, which operate at all levels of health care, was recognized as broader than the traditional in this period. The pandemic emphasized the chronic problems in the working conditions of dentists, technicians, and oral health assistants in the public service, such as the lack of dental instruments and supplies, the precarious maintenance of dental equipment, the fragility of employment relationships, and the inadequate physical structure in the health units, compromising biosecurity. Thus, there is an opportunity to identify and implement necessary changes not only in the context of a health crisis, but in the post-pandemic period.

The experiment was performed in a completely randomized design, with two salinity levels of irrigation water (0.8 and 4.0 dS m-1) and eight evaluation times (52, 54, 56, 58, 60, 62, 64, and 66 days after transplanting). Variables of plant growth and development, production and quality of melon fruits were evaluated throughout the cycle. Plants had delayed growth characteristics and less development with the increase in irrigation water salinity, showing reductions of more than 20% in shoot dry weight, leaf area, number of branches and length of secondary branches and 16.7% in length of the main branch. In addition, salinity caused a delay in fruit development and a 16% reduction in final fruit weight, without significantly modifying carbohydrate and total soluble solids contents. RESUMO A necessidade de estudos que possibilitem a utilização de águas salobras na agricultura irrigada e a importância socioeconômica da cultura do melão no Brasil, especialmente para a região Nordeste, que concentra a maior parte da produção nacional e apresenta problemáticas com disponibilidade de água de boa qualidade para irrigação, norteou o presente estudo. Nesse contexto, o objetivo do presente estudo foi avaliar o crescimento das plantas, a produção e a qualidade de frutos do híbrido de melão amarelo ‘Goldex’ (híbrido F1 tipo amarelo) sob condições de estresse salino. A pesquisa foi conduzida em delineamento inteiramente casualizado, contendo dois níveis de salinidade da água de irrigação (0,8 e 4,0 dS m-1) e oito épocas de avaliação (52, 54, 56, 58, 60, 62, 64 e 66 dias após o transplantio). Foram avaliadas variáveis de crescimento e desenvolvimento das plantas, de produção e de qualidade dos frutos de melão ao longo do ciclo. Introduction The hemogram and hemogram-derivative ratios (HDRs) are becoming markers of the severity and mortality of COVID-19. We evaluated the hemograms and serial weekly HDRs [neutrophil-lymphocyte ratio (NLR), monocyte-lymphocyte ratio (MLR), platelet-lymphocyte ratio (PLR), neutrophil-platelet ratio (NPR) and systemic immune-inflammatory index (SII)] in the survivors and non-survivors of COVID-19. Methods We retrospectively reviewed the medical notes and serial hemograms of real-time reverse-transcription polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR)-confirmed COVID-19 adults hospitalized from April 2020 to March 2021 from the time of diagnosis to the 3rd week of diagnosis. Results Of the 320 adults, 257 (80.3%) were survivors and had a lower mean age than the non-survivors (57.73 vs. 64.65 years, p < 0.001). At diagnosis, the non-survivors had lower hematocrit (p = 0.021), and lymphocyte (p = 0.002) and basophil (p = 0.049) counts and the hematocrit showed a p-value (Is this what you meant???) of 0.021); higher NLR (p < 0.001), PLR (p = 0.047), NPR (p = 0.022) and SII (p = 0.022). Using general linear models, the survivors and non-survivors showed significant variations with weekly lymphocyte count (p < 0.001), neutrophil count (p = 0.005), NLR (p = 0.009), MLR (p = 0.010) and PLR (p = 0.035). All HDRs remained higher in the non-survivors in the 2nd week and 3rd week of diagnosis and the HDRs were higher in the intubated patients than in the non-intubated patients. The NLR and SII were more efficient predictors of mortality in COVID-19 patients. Abstract The aim of the present study was to assess the agronomic performance and chemical composition of soil cultivated with palisade grass (Urochloa brizantha cv. Marandu) subjected to growing doses of liquid blood waste. The experiment followed the completely randomized blocks design with six treatments and four repetitions. The following doses of processed liquid blood waste were applied to test palisade grass’ yield: 0, 150, 300, 450 and 600 m3 ha-1. In addition, it was used in conjunction with chemical fertilization at a rate of 50 kg ha-1 of P2O5 and 100 kg ha-1 of N (this treatment was not managed with liquid blood residue). Palisade grass forage yield was influenced by the fertilization strategy (P<0.001) - the highest values observed for this variable were recorded under blood waste doses of 450 m3 ha-1 and 600 m3 ha-1. The 0.0 - 0.20 m soil layer affect the organic matter fraction. On the other hand, phosphorus (P) content presented differences between fertilization strategies; thus, it was possible observing that the waste dose of 450 m3 ha-1 accounted for the highest availability of nutrients. The application of blood liquid waste as alternative source of organic fertilizers can be feasible, because it promotes significant increase in forage mass.

Resumen El objetivo fue evaluar el comportamiento agronómico y la composición química de suelos cultivados con pasto insurgente (Urochloa brizantha cv. Marandu) sometido a dosis crecientes de residuos sanguíneos líquidos. El experimento siguió el diseño de bloques completamente al azar con seis tratamientos y cuatro repeticiones. Las siguientes dosis de residuos sanguíneos líquidos procesados se aplicaron para analizar el rendimiento del pasto insurgente: 0, 150, 300, 450 y 600 m3 ha-1. Además, se utilizó en conjunto con la fertilización química a razón de 50 kg ha-1 de P2O5 y 100 kg ha-1 de N (este tratamiento no se manejó con residuos sanguíneos líquidos). El rendimiento de forraje de pasto insurgente estuvo influenciado por la estrategia de fertilización (P<0.001) - los valores más altos observados para esta variable se registraron bajo dosis de residuos sanguíneos de 450 m3 ha-1 y 600 m3 ha-1. La capa de suelo de 0.0 a 0.20 m afecta a la fracción de materia orgánica. Por otro lado, el contenido de fósforo (P) presentó diferencias entre las estrategias de fertilización; así, fue posible observar que la dosis de residuos de 450 m3 ha-1 resultó en la mayor disponibilidad de nutrientes. La aplicación de residuos sanguíneos líquidos como fuente alternativa de fertilizantes orgánicos puede ser factible, ya que promueve un aumento significativo de la masa forrajera.

ABSTRACT INTRODUCTION: Assessing children's lifestyles is fundamental for developing policies that prevent the onset of non-communicable diseases. OBJECTIVES: To develop a short lifestyle index for school-age children (6 to 9 years old) and assess their lifestyle characterization. METHODOLOGY: The index was developed based on data from the 7-year follow-up of the birth cohort Generation XXI (n=4336 children), grouped into four domains: frequency of food consumption, eating behaviours, physical activity (including sedentary behaviours) and sleep duration. Cronbach alpha coefficient was obtained to assess the index internal consistency. Associations between sociodemographic characteristics, the physical environment of the house, and the index score were evaluated through linear regression models, obtaining beta coefficients and respective 95% confidence interval (95%CI). RESULTS: The final index included only two domains (food consumption and physical activity) with a Cronbach alpha of 0.52 and a mean score of 3.6 ± 2.8 (range: -5 to 10). Maternal age (β=1.066; 95%CI=1.045-1.087), years of education (β=1.216; 95%CI=1.186- 1.246), having a house with a garden (β=1.630; 95%CI=1.304-2.037), internet access (β=1.524; 95%CI=1.086-2.139) and having a bicycle (β=1.710; 95%CI=1.086-2.694) were positively associated with a healthier lifestyle of the children. CONCLUSIONS: The index developed is a short instrument that can be used to evaluate school-age children’s overall lifestyle. Better maternal sociodemographic characteristics and a better house physical environment increase the likelihood of children having a healthier lifestyle.

RESUMO INTRODUÇÃO: Avaliar o estilo de vida das crianças é fundamental para o desenvolvimento de políticas que previnam o surgimento das doenças não transmissíveis. OBJETIVOS: Desenvolver um índice reduzido de estilo de vida para crianças em idade escolar (6 aos 9 anos de idade) e caraterizar o seu estilo de vida. METODOLOGIA: O índice foi desenvolvido com base nos dados da avaliação aos 7 anos da coorte de nascimento Geração XXI (n=4336 crianças), agrupados em quatro domínios: frequência do consumo alimentar, comportamentos alimentares, atividade física (incluindo comportamentos sedentários) e duração do sono. O coeficiente alfa de Cronbach foi obtido para avaliar a consistência interna do índice. As associações entre as caraterísticas sociodemográficas, o ambiente físico da casa e a pontuação do índice foram avaliadas através de modelos de regressão linear, com a obtenção dos coeficientes β e respetivos intervalos de confiança de 95% (IC95%). RESULTADOS: O índice final incluiu apenas dois domínios (consumo alimentar e atividade física) com um alfa de Cronbach de 0,52 e pontuação média de 3,6±2,8 (intervalo: -5 a 10). A idade materna (β=1,066; IC95%=1,045-1,087), a escolaridade materna (β=1,216; IC95%=1,186-1,246), ter uma casa com jardim (β=1,630; IC95%=1,304-2.037), acesso à internet (β=1,524; IC95%=1,086-2,139) e ter bicicleta (β=1,710; IC95%=1,086-2,694) associaram-se positivamente a um estilo de vida mais saudável das crianças. CONCLUSÕES: O índice desenvolvido é um instrumento curto que pode ser usado para avaliar o estilo de vida geral em crianças em idade escolar. Melhores caraterísticas sociodemográficas maternas e um melhor ambiente físico da casa aumentam a probabilidade de as crianças terem um estilo de vida mais saudável.

ABSTRACT Pressure ulcers (PUs) are related to a prolonged process of disability, an indicator of frailty, functional decline and dependence, and malnutrition is a major factor in their development. The aim of this study was to correlate the risk of developing PUs with the nutritional status and frailty of elderly people institutionalized in Residential Facilities for the Elderly. A cross-sectional, quantitative and descriptive study was carried out. A questionnaire was used which included questions for sociodemographic characterization, the Braden scale, the Mini Nutritional Assessment and the Groningen Frailty Index. The participants were 134 institutionalized elderly people, 64.2% female, with an average age of 85.0 years (SD= 7.9), 70.1% widowed and 58.2% had not completed primary school. The results show that 35.8 per cent of the elderly were at high risk of developing UPP, 57.4 per cent were malnourished or at risk of malnutrition and 82.1 per cent were frail. Assessing the risk of PUs, frailty and malnutrition in institutionalized elderly people makes it possible to institute preventive measures with the aim of improving their quality of life. The prevention of pressure ulcers is an indicator of the quality of nursing care that requires evaluation and updating for clinical practice based on innovation and the best evidence.

RESUMO As Úlceras Por Pressão (UPP) estão relacionadas com o processo prolongado de incapacidade, indicador de fragilidade, declínio funcional e dependência, constituindo a desnutrição fator preponderante para a sua evolução. O objetivo do presente estudo foi relacionar o risco de desenvolvimento de UPP com o estado nutricional e a fragilidade de idosos institucionalizados em Estruturas Residenciais para Pessoas Idosas. Realizou-se um estudo transversal, quantitativo e descritivo. Aplicou-se um questionário que integrava questões para caracterização sociodemográfica, a escala de Braden, o Mini Nutricion Assessment e o Índice de Fragilidade de Groningen. Participaram 134 idosos institucionalizados, 64,2% do sexo feminino, com média de idades de 85,0 anos (DP= 7,9), 70,1% viúvos e 58,2% não concluíram o 1º ciclo de escolaridade. Os resultados mostram que 35,8% dos idosos apresentam alto risco de desenvolvimento de UPP, 57,4% encontram-se desnutridos ou em risco de desnutrição e 82,1% apresentam fragilidade. A avaliação do risco de UPP, da fragilidade e da desnutrição nos idosos institucionalizados permite instituir medidas preventivas com objetivo de melhorar a sua qualidade de vida. A prevenção de Úlceras Por Pressão constitui um indicador de qualidade dos cuidados de enfermagem que requer avaliação e atualização para uma prática clínica fundamentada na inovação e melhor evidência.

RESUMO: O objetivo deste estudo retrospectivo foi avaliar o impacto da apresentação clínica da piometra na morbimortalidade das cadelas afetadas. Foram avaliados os registros clínicos de 47 cadelas tratadas cirurgicamente para piometra entre maio e dezembro de 2017. Os dados recolhidos na admissão foram analisados para classificar os animais quanto à apresentação clínica da piometra, presença de critérios da Síndrome da Resposta Inflamatória Sistêmica (SRIS) e disfunções orgânicas - cardiovascular, neurológica, renal e hemostática. Foi registrado o desfecho durante 14 dias. A mortalidade global foi de 13%. Piometra aberta e fechada foram identificadas em 62% (n= 29) e 38% (n= 18) respectivamente. SRIS esteve presente em 44 (94%) cadelas e 27 (57%) tiveram pelo menos uma disfunção orgânica. A disfunção mais prevalente foi a hemostática, seguida da neurológica, cardiovascular e renal. A apresentação clínica da piometra e a presença de SRIS não se correlacionaram entre si ou com presença de disfunção orgânica e mortalidade. No entanto, a quantidade de disfunções orgânicas (r=0.532, P=<0.001) e a presença das disfunções neurológica (r= -0.371; P=0.012) e renal (r=0.303; P=0.041) foram correlacionados com mortalidade. Assim, a identificação de disfunções orgânicas através do exame físico e análises laboratoriais de rotina mostrou-se mais eficaz na identificação e previsão de pacientes críticos do que os critérios de SRIS ou a apresentação clínica da doença. ABSTRACT: This retrospective study evaluated the impact of the clinical presentation of pyometra on the morbidity and mortality of the affected bitches. The medical records of 47 bitches surgically treated for pyometra between May and December 2017 were evaluated. The admission data were analyzed to classify the animals according to the clinical presentation of pyometra, presence of systemic inflammatory response syndrome (SIRS) and organic dysfunctions (cardiovascular, neurological, renal, and hemostatic). The outcomes were recorded for up to 14 days. The overall mortality rate was 13%. Open and closed pyometra were identified in 62% (n= 29) and 38% (n= 18) of the cases, respectively. The SIRS was present in 44 (94%) bitches, and 27 (57%) had at least one organ dysfunction. The most prevalent dysfunction was hemostatic, followed by neurological, cardiovascular, and renal dysfunction. The clinical presentation of pyometra and the presence of SIRS did not correlate with each other, or with the presence of organ dysfunction and mortality. However, cumulative organ dysfunction (r=0.532, P=<0.001) and the presence of neurological (r= -0.371; P=0.012) and renal dysfunction (r=0.303; P=0.041) were correlated with mortality. Thus, the identification of organ dysfunction through physical examination and routine laboratory analysis proved to be more effective in identifying and predicting the critically ill patients than the SIRS criteria or clinical presentation of the disease. ABSTRACT The work was intended to evaluate the effect of different organic compounds originating from the mixture of agroindustrial and urban wastes, as well as their doses in the physiology and production of cowpea. The experiment was conducted under a randomized block design, in a 4 x 5 + 2 factorial arrangement, with four organic fertilizers (3 composed obtained from of sewage sludge, green coconut shell, carnauba butt; and sewage sludge biochar), five doses (20, 40, 60, 80 and 100 t ha-1) and two additional treatments (without fertilization and mineral fertilization). We evaluated the leaf gas exchange in three phenological stages and the productive aspects. Regarding the physiological variables, the compounds with carnauba butt and green coconut shell promoted the best results and throughout the crop cycle, the gas exchange decreased. The productive aspects were increased by about 60%, especially due to the treatments with organic compounds. The PCA can confirm the univariate results, with emphasis on compounds with green coconut shell and carnauba butt. The high percentage of explanation found in axis 1 (60.49%) may be associated with the fact that the gas exchange and production variables are highly responsive to fertilization. The treatment with biochar caused a reduction in both in the physiological and in the productive aspects.
