RESUMEN El glifosato y la atrazina son dos herbicidas utilizados en todo el mundo para garantizar una alta productividad en diferentes tipos de cultivos. A pesar de la importancia de los herbicidas, su aplicación puede causar efectos negativos en organismos no objetivo, incluyendo bacterias usadas en control biológico y fijación biológica de nitrógeno. Por lo tanto, esta investigación tuvo como objetivo analizar el efecto in vitro del glifosato y la atrazina sobre el crecimiento de las bacterias Azospirillum brasilense, Bacillus subtilis, Bacillus thuringiensis, Chromobacterium subtsugae y Saccharopolyspora spinosa. El diseño utilizado fue completamente al azar y las dosis de los herbicidas evaluadas fueron 1.0, 2.0, 3.0 y 4.0 L ha-1. Los resultados mostraron que el glifosato y la atrazina afectaron el desarrollo de las bacterias estudiadas. La atrazina tiene un efecto lineal creciente entre las dosis utilizadas y la inhibición del crecimiento bacteriano. Por lo tanto, la dosis de 4.0 L ha-1 de este herbicida fue la que mostró la mayor inhibición de crecimiento de bacterias, mientras que el glifosato a una dosis de 2.0 L ha-1 mostró la más alta inhibición de crecimiento de bacterias en comparación con las dosis de 1.0, 3.0 y 4.0 L ha-1.

ABSTRACT Glyphosate and atrazine are two herbicides used worldwide to ensure high yields in different types of crops. Despite the importance of herbicides, their application may have negative effects on non-target organisms, including bacteria used in biological control and biological nitrogen fixation. Therefore, this research aimed to analyze the in vitro effect of glyphosate and atrazine on the growth of bacteria Azospirillum brasilense, Bacillus subtilis, Bacillus thuringiensis, Chromobacterium subtsugae, and Saccharopolyspora spinosa. The design used was completely randomized, and the doses of the herbicides evaluated were 1.0, 2.0, 3.0 and 4.0 L ha-1. The results showed that glyphosate and atrazine affected the development of the bacteria under study. Atrazine showed a lineal increasing effect between the doses used and inhibition of bacterial growth. Therefore, the dose of 4.0 L ha-1 of this herbicide was the one that showed the highest inhibition of bacteria, whereas glyphosate at a dose of 2.0 L ha-1 showed the highest inhibition of bacteria compared to doses of 1.0, 3.0 and 4.0 L ha-1.

ABSTRACT Rhizoctonia, Fusarium, and Curvularia species are among the main fungi that cause disease in plants. Trichoderma spp. fungi are an important tool in the biological control of phytopathogens. As a result, the present study aimed to evaluate the efficiency of Trichoderma species in vitro antagonism for pathogens Rhizoctonia solani, Fusarium oxysporum, and Curvularia lunata. To test the action of Trichoderma spp. the colony matching technique was used and the percentage of colonization, inhibition, and scores assigned on an adapted scale were evaluated. For inhibition by volatile compounds, the plate overlap method was used and the colony diameter was measured after seven days. The experimental design was completely randomized in triplicate and analysed in a 4x3 factorial scheme, with 4 isolated and 3 pathogens. In the inhibition by volatile compounds, the UFT-204 isolate showed better efficiency in controlling pathogens. The colonies of the pathogens obtained mycelial growth of 74.7% for R. solani, 57.5% for F. oxysporum, and 69% for C. lunata. In the confrontation with F. oxysporum, the isolate Trichoderma UFT-205 obtained the best result (80.8%) in the percentage of colonization. In the percentage of inhibition, the isolates of Trichoderma UFT-25 (87.0%), UFT-205 (85.3%), and UFT-57 (84.2%) presented better averages. For C. lunata, the isolates of Trichoderma UFT-25 (77%), UFT-205 (81.4%), and UFT-57 (76%) provided the highest percentage of colonization. In the inhibition, the isolates of Trichoderma UFT-25 (76.3%) and UFT-205 (80.7%) presented better averages. R. solani did not differ statistically, obtaining a colonization percentage of 68.8% to 76.7% and inhibition of 76.7% to 84.6%.

Resumo Espécies de Rhizoctonia, Fusarium e Curvularia estão entre os principais fungos fitopatogénicos. Trichoderma spp. São importantes ferramentas no control biológico de fitopatogénios. Desta forma, o presente estudo teve como objetivo avaliar a eficiência de espécies de Trichoderma in vitro para antagonismo em relação aos patogénios Rhizoctonia solani, Fusarium oxysporum e Curvularia lunata. Para testar a ação de Trichoderma spp., foi usada a técnica de co-cultura, tendo sido avaliados a percentagem de colonização e de inibição segundo pontuação atribuída através duma escala adaptada. Para a avaliação de inibição por compostos voláteis foi usado o método de sobreposição de placas, tendo sido medido o diâmetro das colónias após sete dias. O delineamento experimental foi completamente aleatorizado em triplicados, tendo sido analisado num esquema fatorial 4x3, com quatro isolados e três patogénios. No estudo de inibição por compostos voláteis o isolado UFT-204 mostrou melhor eficiência no controlo dos patogénios. As colónias dos patogénios registaram um crescimento micelial de 74.7% para R. solani, 57.5% para F. oxysporum e 69% para or C. lunata. Na confrontação com F. oxysporum, o isolado UFT-205 de Trichoderma obteve o melhor resulta (80.8%) da percentagem de colonização. Na percentagem de inibição, os isolados de Trichoderma UFT-25 (87.0%), UFT-205 (85.3%) e UFT-57 (84.2%) apresentaram melhores médias. Para C. lunata, os isolados de Trichoderma UFT-25 (77%), UFT-205 (81.4%) e UFT-57 (76%) forneceram a maior percentagem de colonização. Na inibição, os isolados de Trichoderma UFT-25 (76.3%) e UFT-205 (80.7%) apresentaram melhores médias. RESUMO A fim de obter uma produção ótima e sustentável, os produtores precisam conhecer a taxa de aplicação de potássio (K) e fósforo (P) fertilizante. Objetivou-se determinar o desenvolvimento de arroz, em resposta a taxas combinadas de P e K, em Plintosolos (380-400 g kg-1 de argila), em condições de fertilidade alta e baixa, na planície irrigável tropical do rio Araguaia. Foram instalados três experimentos, sendo que cada um deles consistiu em delineamento fatorial em blocos casualizados, com três repetições. Os tratamentos incluíram a combinação de seis doses de K2O (0 kg ha-1, 30 kg ha-1, 60 kg ha-1, 90 kg ha-1, 120 kg ha-1 e 150 kg ha-1) com seis doses de P2O5 (0 kg ha-1, 30 kg ha-1, 60 kg ha-1, 90 kg ha-1, 120 kg ha-1 e 150 kg ha-1). Não foi observado efeito da interação entre doses de P e K nas variáveis analisadas em nenhum nível de fertilidade/ano. A aplicação de P sob condição de baixa fertilidade, bem como de K sob alta fertilidade, afetam a nutrição da cultura de forma geral, capacidade de perfilhamento, componentes da produtividade e rendimento de grãos de arroz de terras baixas, embora não tenha sido observado efeito da aplicação de P em área de alta fertilidade e K na área de baixa fertilidade. Na condição de alta fertilidade, a taxa de incremento de rendimento de grãos devida à aplicação de K foi de 4,04 kg ha-1, e na condição de baixa fertilidade, como áreas recém-abertas, a produtividade máxima foi de 7.161 kg ha-1, quando aplicados 140 kg ha-1 de P.

ABSTRACT In order to reach an optimum and sustainable production, growers must know the fertilizing potassium (K) and phosphorous (P) application rates. The present study aimed to determine the rice development in response to combined rates of P and K, on Plinthaquults (380-400 g kg-1 of clay), under high and low fertility conditions, in the tropical lowland plain of the Araguaia river, Brazil. Three field experiments were performed, each one consisting of a completely randomized factorial block design, with three replications. Treatments included a combination of six K2O rates (0 kg ha-1, 30 kg ha-1, 60 kg ha-1, 90 kg ha-1, 120 kg ha-1 and 150 kg ha-1) with six P2O5 rates (0 kg ha-1, 30 kg ha-1, 60 kg ha-1, 90 kg ha-1, 120 kg ha-1 and 150 kg ha-1). No interaction effect between P and K rates was observed for the evaluated variables in any fertility level/year. Phosphorous application under low fertility conditions, as well as K under high fertility conditions, affect overall crop nutrition, tillering capacity, yield components and grain yield of lowland rice, though no effects were observed due to the P application in high fertility soils and K in low fertility soils. Under high fertility conditions, the grain yield increment rate due to the K application was 4.04 kg ha-1, whereas in the low fertility areas, such as recently cleared fields, a maximum yield of 7,161 kg ha-1 was achieved by applying 140 kg ha-1 of P.

RESUMO O uso de plantas de cobertura pode alterar atributos do solo e afetar significativamente a nutrição das plantas e produtividade do arroz cultivado em planícies inundáveis. Este trabalho teve como objetivo determinar atributos do solo, nutrição de plantas e produtividade do arroz irrigado tropical em planícies irrigáveis por inundação após o cultivo de plantas de cobertura, no preparo convencional do solo (PC) ou sistema plantio direto (SPD) em baixa e alta adubação com N. O delineamento experimental foi em blocos casualizados, no esquema de parcelas sub-subdivdidas, com quatro repetições. Nas parcelas estavam as coberturas vegetais [Crotalaria juncea, C. spectabilis, mucuna preta (Mucuna aterrina), feijão de porco (Canavalia ensiformis), feijão guandu (Cajanus cajan), nabo forrageiro (Raphanus sativus), feijão caupi (Vigna unguiculata) e pousio], nas subparcelas o sistema de preparo do solo (PC ou SPD) e nas sub-subparcelas a adubação nitrogenada (10 e 45 kg ha-1 N). As plantas de cobertura, com exceção do nabo forrageiro, proporcionam incrementos nos teores de N total e nitrato no solo. C. juncea, C. spectabilis, mucuna preta e feijão caupi proporcionam incrementos nos teores de amônio no solo. O SPD proporciona maiores teores de N total e amônio do que o PC. No âmbito geral, as plantas de cobertura proporcionaram maiores teores de nutrientes nas plantas de arroz no SPD do que no PC. As plantas de cobertura também proporcionaram maior produtividade do arroz em relação ao tratamento pousio. O rendimento do arroz é maior em SPD do que PC, e superior com alto nível de adubação nitrogenada.

ABSTRACT In flood plains, cover crops are able to alter soil properties and significantly affect rice nutrition and yield. The aims of this study were to determine soil properties, plant nutrition, and yield of tropical rice cultivated on flood plains after cover crop cultivation with conventional tillage (CT) and no-tillage system (NTS) at low and high nitrogen (N) fertilization levels. The experimental design was a randomized block in a split-split-plot scheme with four replications. In the main plots were cover crops [sunhemp (Crotalaria juncea and C. spectabilis), velvet bean (Mucuna aterrima), jackbean (Canavalia ensiformis), pigeon pea (Cajanus cajan), Japanese radish (Raphanus sativus), cowpea (Vigna unguiculata)] and a fallow field. In the subplots were the tillage systems (CT or NTS). The nitrogen fertilization levels in the sub-subplots were (10 kg N ha-1 and 45 kg N ha-1). All cover crops except Japanese radish significantly increased mineral soil nitrogen and nitrate concentrations. Sunhemp, velvet bean, and cowpea significantly increased soil ammonium content. The NTS provides higher mineral nitrogen and ammonium content than that by CT. Overall, cover crops provided higher levels of nutrients to rice plants in NTS than in CT. Cover crops provide greater yield than fallow treatments. Rice yield was higher in NTS than in CT, and greater at a higher rather than lower nitrogen fertilization level.

Neste estudo, foram avaliados os danos causados por doenças fúngicas no arroz cultivado sob condição de várzea no Estado do Tocantins. O delineamento experimental foi o de blocos casualizados com quatro repetições em esquema fatorial 26 (genótipos de arroz irrigado) × 2 (aplicação ou não de fungicidas). As aplicações de fungicidas foram realizadas aos 35 dias após a semeadura (tiofanato metílico; 0,5 L ha-1) nos estádios de emborrachamento (trifloxistrobina + propiconazole; 0,6 L ha-1) e com 5% das panículas emitidas (trifloxistrobina + propiconazole; 0,6 L ha-1 + tebuconazole; 0,75 L ha-1). As variáveis avaliadas foram: severidades da brusone nas folhas e nas panículas, mancha-parda nas folhas, mancha dos grãos, massa de cem sementes e produtividade. O tratamento com fungicida reduziu, em média, a severidade da brusone nas folhas em 69% e em 54% a brusone nas panículas. Não houve diferença estatística entre os tratamentos com e sem fungicida na severidade da mancha parda; porém alguns genótipos diferiram estatisticamente entre eles. Nas plantas tratadas com fungicidas, houve um acréscimo médio de 0,52 g (17,6%) na massa de cem sementes e de 1000 kg ha-1 na produtividade (12,6%). Os valores máximos obtidos na massa de cem sementes e na produtividade foram, respectivamente, de 3,2 g e 9270 kg ha-1.

This study aimed to evaluate the damages caused by the fungal diseases in rice production under conditions of lowland at the State of Tocantins. The experimental design was a randomized blocks with four replications, in a factorial scheme of 26 (genotypes of irrigated rice) x 2 (plots treated or untreated with fungicides). The fungicide treatment consisted of three applications, the first one was done 35 days after planting with thiophanate methyl (0.5 L ha-1), the second application was done in the booting stage of rice with trifloxystrobin + propiconazole (0.6 L ha -1) and the third application was done with 5% of panicles issued with trifloxystrobin + propiconazole (0.6 L ha-1) + tebuconazole (0.75 L ha-1). The following evaluations were performed: leaf and panicle blast severity, brown-spot severity, grains spots, 100 seed mass, and productivity. The fungicide treatments decreased around 69% the blast severity on leaves and 54% on panicles of most genotypes. There was not any statistical difference in the treatment with or without fungicide for brown-spot, however there was statistical difference among the genotypes. In plants treated with fungicides there was an increase of 0.52 g (17.6%) in the mass of 100 seeds and 1000 kg ha-1 in the productivity (12.6%). The maximum values obtained in 100 seeds mass and yield were 3.19 g and 9270 kg ha-1, respectively.

Seis isolados de rizobia nativos da Amazonia Central foram selecionados para a produção de amilases em meio de cultura líquido, usando várias substâncias amiláceas como fontes de carbono. Os resultados mostraram que todos os isolados de rizobia podem produzir quantidades diferenciadas de proteína extracelular, biomassa e amilases com diferentes tipos de fontes de carbono. Entre as fontes testadas, maltose foi a melhor para as produções de proteína e amilase. Por outro lado, a produção de biomassa pelos isolados de rizobia foi maior na presença de farinha de aveia. O isolado INPA R-926 mostrou-se um bom produtor de amilase nos meios com maltose (1,94 U) e amido de milho (0,53 U). O isolado INPA R-991 também foi um bom produtor de amilase com rendimentos significativos na presença de maltose (1,66 U) e amido de milho (1,59 U). As análises de correlação revelaram relações positivas e significativas entre as atividades de amilase e pH final (r = 0,49, P < 0,05), proteína extracelular (r = 0,47, P < 0,47) e a produção de biomassa (r = 0,69, P < 0,01) no meio com maltose. Os resultados obtidos nesse estudo revelaram alguns isolados de rizóbio da Amazônia Central como fontes promissoras de amilases para aplicações biotecnológicas, especialmente na indústria do amido.

Six isolates of indigenous rhizobia of Central Amazonia were screened for the production of amylases in liquid media using various starchy substances as carbon sources. All rhizobia strains could produce more extracellular protein, biomass and amylases with the different kinds of carbon substrates. Among the carbon sources tested maltose was the best substrate for protein and amylase production. In general, peach palm flour and corn starch (maizena®) were also considered to be good carbon sources for rhizobia amylases. On the other hand, the biomass production by the rhizobia isolates was higher in the presence of oat flour. INPA strain R-926 was a good amylase producer in maltose (1.94 U) and corn starch (0.53 U) media. INPA strain R-991 was also a good amylase producer in maltose (1.66 U) and corn starch (1.59 U) yielding significant extracellular amylase. Correlation analysis showed significant and positive relationships between rhizobia amylases and final pH (r = 0.49, P < 0.05), extracellular protein (r = 0.47, P < 0.47) and biomass production (r = 0.69, P < 0.01) in the maltose medium. The results obtained in this study revealed several Central Amazonian rhizobia strains as promising sources of amylase for biotechnological applications, especially in starch industry.

As amilases estão entre as mais importantes enzimas industriais e são de grande interesse na biotecnologia atual. Embora elas possam ser derivadas de diversas fontes, as de origem microbiana são geralmente as mais procuradas pelas indústrias. As espécies do gênero Bacillus são consideradas as principais fontes de amilases. Apesar disso, a busca por novas fontes microbianas vem crescendo em todo o mundo. O presente estudo objetivou avaliar a produção de amilase por rizóbios nativos, usando farinha de pupunha como substrato. Neste estudo, foi adotado o delineamento experimental inteiramente casualizado, com três repetições. Foram determinados ainda os coeficientes de correlação de Pearson entre as variáveis pH do meio, proteína extracelular, biomassa celular, diâmetro médio da colônia (DMC), diâmetro médio do halo (DMH), índice enzimático (IE) e atividade amilolítica das bactérias selecionadas. Dos 19 isolados com atividade amilolítica em meio YMA modificado, sete (36,8%) exibiram "IE" > 2,1, o que permite considerá-los bons produtores de amilase. Os "IE" apresentados pelos isolados INPA R-987, 950 e 915B foram significativamente inferiores (p < 0,01) aos mostrados pelas bactérias INPA R-926, 975 e 957. A atividade amilolítica variou significativamente (p < 0,01) entre as bactérias investigadas. Os isolados INPA R-975 e R-926 apresentaram, respectivamente, a maior (1,00 U.min-1.mL-1) e a menor (0,31 U.min-1.mL-1) média de atividade. Em termos gerais, a proteína extracelular correlacionou-se positivamente com "IE" (r = 0,52*; p < 0,05) e "DMH" (r = 0,55*; p < 0,05). A biomassa celular apresentou correlações positivas com atividade amilolítica (r = 0,55*; p < 0,05) e "DMH" (r = 0,54*; p < 0,05) e negativa com o pH final do meio de cultivo (r = 0,93**; p < 0,01).

Amylases are among the most important industrial enzymes and are of great significance in present-day biotechnology. Although they can be derived from various sources, enzymes from microbial sources are generally the most required by industry. Species of the genus Bacillus are considered to be the main sources of amylases, although screening for new microbial sources is increasing all over the world. The objective of the present study was to evaluate the production of amylase by indigenous rhizobia, using peach palm flour as substrate. In this study, a completely randomized experimental design was adopted with three replicates. Pearson's correlation coefficients were calculated for medium pH, extracellular protein, cellular biomass, mean colony diameter (MCD), mean halo diameter (MHD), enzymatic index (EI) and amylolytic activity variables from the bacteria selected. Out of the 19 rhizobia strains with amylolytic activity on modified YMA, seven (36.8%) strains showed "EI" > 2,1, and they were considered as good producers of amylase. The "IE" presented by bacteria INPA R-987, R-950 and R-915B were significantly lower (p < 0.01) than those shown by the INPA R-926, R-975 and R-957. The amylolytic activity varied significantly (p < 0.01) among the rhizobia strains. INPA R-975 and R-926 strains presented, respectively, the highest (1.00 U.min-1.mL-1) and the lowest (0.31 U.min¹.mL-1) activity average. In general terms, the extracellular protein was correlated positively with "EI" (r = 0.52*; p < 0.05) and "MHD" (r = 0.55*; p < 0.05). The cellular biomass showed positive correlations with amylolytic activity (r = 0.55*; p < 0.05) and "MHD" (r = 0.54*; p < 0.05), and a negative with final pH medium (r = 0.93**; p < 0.01).

A associação rizóbia x leguminosa contribui para enriquecer o solo com nitrogênio por meio da fixação biológica. Entretanto, pouco se conhece a respeito do perfil enzimático desses microrganismos. Nesse contexto, a presente investigação propõe avaliar a produção de enzimas hidrolíticas extracelulares por isolados de rizóbia nativos da Amazônia Central. Essa triagem constitui o primeiro passo na seleção de microrganismos nativos que são potencialmente exploráveis como produtores de enzimas. Foram testados 67 isolados nativos de rizóbia para as atividades amilolítica, celulolítica, lactolítica, lipolítica, pectinolítica e proteolítica, em meio YMA modificado. A atividade ureolítica foi detectada em meio ágar-uréia. As bactérias isoladas dos nódulos de feijão caupi mostraram maior capacidade em produzir enzimas do que os isolados bacterianos de soja. De todas as enzimas hidrolíticas avaliadas, apenas a pectinase não foi detectada neste estudo. Amilase (32,8%), protease (28,4%), urease (20,9%) e carboximetilcelulase (9,0%) foram as enzimas mais freqüentes produzidas pelos isolados. Neste trabalho, apenas as enzimas amilase e protease variaram significativamente entre os isolados de rizóbia. Os isolados INPA R-926 e INPA R-915 exibiram os maiores índices amilolíticos (IE = 3,1) e proteolíticos (IE = 6,6), respectivamente. Este estudo revelou alguns isolados de rizóbia nativos da Amazônia Central como fontes promissoras de enzimas de importância industrial para uso biotecnológico.

Legumes enrich the soil by contributing nitrogen through symbiotic biological nitrogen fixation by rhizobia bacteria. However, very little is known about the extracellular enzymatic profile of these microorganisms. In this context, the production of extracellular hydrolytic enzymes by indigenous strains of rhizobia in Central Amazonia was evaluated. This screening constitutes the first step in selecting indigenous microorganisms that are potentially exploitable as enzyme producers. Indigenous strains of rhizobia were screened for extracellular amylolytic, carboxymethylcellulolytic, lactolytic, lipolytic, pectinolytic and proteolytic activities on modified YMA. Ureolytic activity was detected on a urea-agar slant. Rhizobia strains isolated from cowpea nodules produced more enzymes than those isolated from soybean nodules. Out of all the extracellular hydrolytic enzymes evaluated, only pectinase was not detected in this study. The most frequent rhizobia enzymes were amylase (32.8%), protease (28.4%), urease (20.9%) and carboxymethylcellulase (9.0%). In this study, only amylase and protease enzymes varied significantly among rhizobia strains. INPA strains R-926 and R-915 showed the highest enzymatic levels for amylase (EI = 3.1) and protease (EI = 6.6), respectively. This paper showed some indigenous strains of rhizobia from Central Amazonia as promising sources of industrially relevant enzymes for biotechnological purposes.

A importância das bactérias conhecidas como rizóbia no estabelecimento de leguminosas tem sido amplamente reconhecida. Porém, poucas são as informações referentes ao perfil enzimático dessas bactérias benéficas. O estudo objetivou investigar a influência do pH do meio sólido sobre a atividade enzimática de rizóbios nativos da Amazônia Central. Essa triagem constitui o primeiro passo no processo de seleção de microorganismos benéficos, como produtores de enzimas de aplicação biotecnológica. Nesse estudo, 64 isolados de rizóbia foram testados para a produção extracelular de amilase, lipase, pectinase e protease, em meio YMA modificado. Excetuando a atividade pectinolítica, todas as outras enzimas (amilase, lipase e protease) foram detectadas nos isolados investigados. Dois isolados (INPA R-975 e INPA R-926) exibiram atividades amilolíticas, lipolíticas e proteolíticas. Os índices enzimáticos amilolíticos e proteolíticos variaram significativamente entre os isolados e as condições de pH do meio de cultura. De maneira geral, as maiores atividades amilolíticas e proteolíticas foram exibidas pelos isolados INPA R-957, INPA R-915B e INPA R-991 em pH 6,5. O isolado INPA R-957 também se mostrou amilolítico e proteolítico nos pHs 5,0 e 8,0. Esse estudo mostrou que alguns rizóbios nativos da Amazônia representam fontes promissoras de amilase e protease de uso biotecnológico, sobretudo na tecnologia de alimentos.

The importance of rhizobia bacteria in the establishment of legume plants has been widely recognized. However, information is scarce regarding the enzymatic profiles of these beneficial bacteria. The objective of this study was to investigate the influence of pH of solid medium on enzymatic activity of native Central Amazonian rhizobia strains. This screening constitutes the first step in selecting beneficial microorganisms as enzyme producers. In this study, 64 strains of rhizobia were screened for extracellular amylolytic, lipolytic, pectinolytic and proteolytic activities on modified YMA. With the exception of pectinolytic activity, the other enzymatic activity groups (amylase, lipase and protease) were found in the strains investigated. Two isolates (INPA R-975 and INPA R-926) exhibited amylolytic, lipolytic and proteolytic activities. The activity levels of the amylases and proteases varied significantly among strains of rhizobia and among pH conditions. In general, the highest amylase and protease activities were presented by isolates INPA R-957, INPA R-915B and INPA R-991 at pH 6.5. The INPA R-957 isolate also showed amylolytic and proteolytic activities at pH 5.0 and 8.0. This study revealed several Central Amazonian rhizobia strains as promising sources of amylase and protease for biotechnological applications, especially in food technology.
