Abstract Objective To analyze the evidence available in literature regarding unsuccessful labor induction with misoprostol in full-term pregnancies. Methods This is an integrative review, carried out between January and November 2022, whose research question and descriptors were outlined using the PECO strategy. The searches were carried out in the MEDLINE, Web of Science, CINAHL, EMBASE and Scopus databases by two researchers independently as well as assessment. For the study selection and identification phase, the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) was used. The risk of bias assessment of included articles was carried out using the Newcastle-Ottawa Scale. Results A total of 3,674 articles were identified, and 84 were read in full, of which 11 comprised the review (n=9,010 pregnant women), published between 2005 and 2021, with the majority in the United States. Regarding the level of evidence, all articles were classified as 2b, assessed according to the design of each study. The study showed evidence regarding the following factors: High BMI (greater than 30 kg/m2), nulliparity, immature bishop, cervical length (greater than 30 mm), height, ethnicity (non-Caucasians from southern Europe) and fetal weight (greater equal to 4 kg). Conclusion The objective study was achieved, having demonstrated six maternal factors and one fetal factor that can lead to unsuccessful induction. Abstract Objective This study aims to create a new screening for preterm birth < 34 weeks after gestation with a cervical length (CL) ≤ 30 mm, based on clinical, demographic, and sonographic characteristics. Methods This is a post hoc analysis of a randomized clinical trial (RCT), which included pregnancies, in middle-gestation, screened with transvaginal ultrasound. After observing inclusion criteria, the patient was invited to compare pessary plus progesterone (PP) versus progesterone only (P) (1:1). The objective was to determine which variables were associated with severe preterm birth using logistic regression (LR). The area under the curve (AUC), sensitivity, specificity, and positive predictive value (PPV) and negative predictive value (NPV) were calculated for both groups after applying LR, with a false positive rate (FPR) set at 10%. Results The RCT included 936 patients, 475 in PP and 461 in P. The LR selected: ethnics white, absence of previous curettage, previous preterm birth, singleton gestation, precocious identification of short cervix, CL < 14.7 mm, CL in curve > 21.0 mm. The AUC (CI95%), sensitivity, specificity, PPV, and PNV, with 10% of FPR, were respectively 0.978 (0.961-0.995), 83.4%, 98.1%, 83.4% and 98.1% for PP < 34 weeks; and 0.765 (0.665-0.864), 38.7%, 92.1%, 26.1% and 95.4%, for P < 28 weeks. SUMMARY OBJECTIVE: To assess the prevalence of maternal alloantibodies in pregnant women at a maternity hospital in northeastern Brazil and describe their perinatal outcomes. METHODS: A retrospective cohort study reviewed maternal and newborn medical records between January 2017 and October 2018 to assess for the presence of maternal alloantibodies. RESULTS: The following maternal alloantibodies were found in the 41 cases surveyed: anti-D, 28 cases (45%); anti-C, 7 cases (11%); anti-c, 1 case (1.6%); anti-E, 4 cases (6.4%); anti-Cw, 1 case (1.6%); anti-K, 2 cases (3.2%); anti-Jka, 1 case (1.6%); anti-M, 3 cases (4.8%); anti-Fya, 2 cases (3.2%); anti-Fyb, 1 case (1.6%); anti-Lea, 5 cases (8%); anti-Leb, 3 cases (4.8%); and anti-Dia, 4 cases (6.4%). Anti-D antibodies were the most frequent cause of erythrocyte alloimmunization (80%). Fetal anemia was observed in four pregnancies based on the peak systolic velocity of the middle cerebral artery. In one case, the mother showed anti-M, and anti-Lea alloimmunization, but the direct antiglobulin test results for the newborn were negative, and no unfavorable neonatal outcomes were observed. In one case of a mother with anti-C and anti-D alloimmunization, the neonate showed anti-D antibodies only in the serological panel and required phototherapy. Neonates with plasma antibodies and jaundice requiring phototherapy only had a serological panel with anti-D, anti-C, anti-c, and anti-E antibodies. Intervention was required for 2.5% of pregnant women with positive antibody screens and 81% of newborns with positive direct antiglobulin test results. CONCLUSION: Despite being a rare condition, maternal alloimmunization by irregular antibodies can result in high perinatal morbidity and mortality.

ABSTRACT OBJECTIVE To assess the perceptions of pregnant women about COVID-19 and the prevalence of common mental disorders during the implemented social distancing period. METHODS This was an observational, cross-sectional study using digital media, of pregnant women exposed to social distancing due to the COVID-19 pandemic, in Fortaleza, Ceará, Northeastern Brazil. Common mental disorders were estimated using the modified Self-Report Questionnaire-20 (SRQ-20) scale, and the feelings towards COVID-19 were assessed using the Fear of COVID-19 scale through telephone calls made in May 2020. COX multivariate regression models were used to verify the associations. RESULTS Of the 1,041 pregnant women, 45.7% (95%CI: 42.7–48.8) had common mental disorders (CMD). All items of the Fear of COVID-19 Scale showed a significant association with the prevalence of CMD (p < 0.001). A CMD risk gradient was observed, going from a prevalence ratio of 1.52 (95%CI: 1.13–2.04) in pregnant women with two positive items to 2.70 (95%CI: 2.08–3.51) for those with four positive items. Early gestational age and the lack of prenatal care were also associated with CMD. CONCLUSIONS The prevalence of common mental disorders in pregnant women was high during the period of social distancing and was aggravated by negative feelings towards COVID-19.

Foi pautado a partir da experiência de pesquisa avaliativa de abordagem qualitativa sobre a Rede de Atenção à Saúde Materna e Infantil desenvolvida no estado do Ceará. A discussão gira em torno de três unidades, a saber: organização e funcionamento dos serviços de saúde em redes; Jogo hermenêutico: fundamentos e relações; e Redes de Atenção à Saúde e o jogo hermenêutico: uma aproximação possível? A partir disso, foi possível compreender que o movimento em prol da constituição das Redes extrapola a dimensão técnica e a disponibilidade dos equipamentos, dispositivos e sujeitos. Por vezes, é capaz de se constituir independentemente do desenho já formatado pelos gestores e profissionais de saúde. A Rede também se constrói a partir dos próprios sujeitos, sejam eles usuários ou não, e é percebida como algo em movimento que se renova em constante repetição. Ela independe da atuação de cada um dos sujeitos que a compõem. A Rede por si só é o próprio sujeito, assim como jogo hermenêutico.

Resumo Objetivo Avaliar a medida do ângulo do arco púbico (AAP) por ultrassonografia transperineal durante trabalho de parto em predizer tipo de parto e modo de desprendimento do polo cefálico. Métodos Um estudo prospectivo transversal foi conduzido com 221 mulheres em trabalho de parto com gestação única ≥ 37 semanas, com fetos em apresentação cefálica, foram submetidas à avaliação ultrassonográfica por via transperineal para aferição do AAP. Correlações com tipo de parto, modo de desprendimento do polo cefálico e características fetais e maternas foram realizadas. Resultados Um total de 153 (69,2%) mulheres apresentaram parto vaginal espontâneo, 7 (3,2%) parto a fórceps e 61 (27,6%) parto cesárea. Para fins de análise, dividiu-se os partos em dois grupos: partos vaginais e cirúrgicos (fórceps e cesáreas). A média do AAP foi 102 ± 7,5º (variação: 79,3-117,7º). Não foi observada significância estatística do AAP em relação ao tipo de parto (102,6 ± 7,2º versus 100,8 ± 7,9º; p = 0,105). Um total de 94,1% dos fetos desprenderam em variedade de posição occipito anterior e 5,8% em occipito posterior. Encontrou-se AAP mais estreitado no grupo de partos cirúrgicos (97,9 ± 9,6º versus 102,6 ± 7,3º; p = 0,049). A análise de regressão multivariada demonstrou que AAP foi uma variável de proteção para a ocorrência de desprendimento da cabeça em variedades occipito posteriores ao nascimento (odds ratio [OR]= 0,9; índice de confiança (IC) 95%: 0,82-0,99; p = 0,026). Conclusão A medida ultrassonográfica do AAP não foi preditora do tipo de parto, porém demonstrou associação com persistência de variedades occipito posteriores ao nascimento.

Abstract Objective To evaluate the ability of the pubic arch angle (PAA) as measured by transperineal ultrasonography during labor to predict the delivery type and cephalic pole disengagement mode. Methods The present prospective cross-sectional study included 221 women in singleton-gestational labor ≥ 37 weeks with cephalic fetuses who underwent PAA measurement using transperineal ultrasonography. These measurements were correlated with the delivery type, cephalic pole disengagement mode, and fetal and maternal characteristics. Results Out of the subjects, 153 (69.2%) had spontaneous vaginal delivery, 7 (3.2%) gave birth by forceps, and 61 (27.6%) delivered by cesarean section. For the analysis, deliveries were divided into two groups: vaginal and surgical (forceps and cesarean). The mean PAA was 102 ± 7.5º (range, 79.3-117.7º). No statistically significant difference was observed in delivery type (102.6 ± 7.2º versus 100.8 ± 7.9º, p = 0.105). The occipitoanterior position was seen in 94.1% of the fetuses and the occipitoposterior position in 5.8%. A narrower PAA was found in the group of surgical deliveries (97.9 ± 9.6º versus 102.6 ± 7.3º, p = 0.049). Multivariate regression analysis showed that PAA was a predictive variable for the occurrence of head disengagement in occipital varieties after birth (odds ratio, 0.9; 95% confidence interval, 0.82-0.99; p = 0.026). Conclusion Ultrasonographic measurement of the PAA was not a predictor of delivery type, but was associated with the persistence of occipital varieties after birth.

Resumo Introdução O aborto é uma questão relevante para a saúde pública, por sua significância entre as causas de morbidade e mortalidade materna. Objetivo Descrever o perfil sociodemográfico e reprodutivo, bem como a assistência prestada e os custos da internação de mulheres em abortamento nos hospitais vinculados à rede SUS de Fortaleza, Ceará. Métodos Trata-se de estudo transversal, descritivo, por meio de entrevista, prontuários e relatórios da Autorização das Internações Hospitalares. Resultados Entre as 119 mulheres entrevistadas, 65% tinham menos de 30 anos, 78,2% eram não brancas e 54% possuíam baixa renda; a prevalência de mulheres que buscaram mais de um hospital para atendimento foi de 47% e 72,3% buscaram o serviço de saúde em até cinco dias; concentração de 98,3% do procedimento cirúrgico curetagem para finalização do aborto. Conclusão Percebeu-se a existência de pontos frágeis na atenção ao abortamento e a necessidade de discutir a temática aborto nas políticas públicas de saúde.

Abstract Background Abortion is a relevant issue for public health, due to is significance among the causes of maternal and mortality. Objective to describe the sociodemographic and reproductive profile, as well as the assistance provided and the costs of the hospitalization of women in abortion in the hospitals linked in the SUS network in Fortaleza, Ceará. Methods this is a cross-sectional, descriptive study by means of interviews, medical records and reports of the Authorization of Hospitalizations. Results among the 119 women interviewed, 65% were under 30 years of age, 78.2% were non-white and 54% had low income; the prevalence of women who sought more than one hospital for care was 47% and 72.3% of them sought health care within five days; concentration of 98.3% were submitted to a surgical procedure curettage for abortion termination. Conclusion it was noticed the existence of fragile points in the attention to abortion and the need to discuss abortion thematic in public health policies.

Resumo Objetivo Avaliar o impacto da presença de critérios de morbidade materna grave e potencial evento adverso materno associados a distúrbios hipertensivos nos desfechos maternos e perinatais em uma maternidade escola. Métodos Trata-se de uma subanálise de um estudo maior, envolvendo 27 centros, que estimou a prevalência de morbidade materna grave e potencial evento adverso no Brasil. Realizou-se um estudo analítico e transversal, com abordagem quantitativa, envolvendo 928 mulheres atendidas na Maternidade Escola Assis Chateaubriand (MEAC), na Universidade Federal do Ceará (UFC), no período de julho de 2009 a junho de 2010, diagnosticadas com potencial evento adverso de acordo com os critérios da Organização Mundial da Saúde (OMS). A amostra foi dividida em dois grupos: pacientes com (n = 827) e sem hipertensão (n = 101). Os resultados foram considerados estatisticamente significativos quando p < 0,05. O teste do Qui-quadrado de Pearson e o teste exato de Fisher foram usados para as variáveis categóricas, e o teste U de Mann-Whitney, para as variáveis contínuas. Resultados Foram identificados 51 participantes com critérios de potencial evento adverso materno, sendo 36 mulheres com distúrbios hipertensivos. Destas, 5 morreram e foram obviamente excluídas do grupo final do potencial evento adverso. Foram observados 867 casos com critérios de morbidade materna que não caracterizavam potencial evento adverso. Nesse período, houve 4.617 nascidos vivos (NVs) na instituição estudada. Conclusão Na população com morbidade grave/potencial evento adversomaterno, a presença de complicações hipertensivas é prevalente, constituindo fator de risco para o binômio materno-fetal.

Abstract Purpose To evaluate the impact of the presence of criteria for severe maternal morbidity and maternal near miss associated with hypertensive disorders on maternal and perinatal outcomes in a maternity school. Methods The present is a sub-analysis of a larger study involving 27 centers in Brazil that estimated the prevalence of serious maternal morbidity and near miss. It is an analytical and cross-sectional study with a quantitative approach, involving 928 women who were cared for at Maternidade Escola Assis Chateaubriand (MEAC, in Portuguese), Universidade Federal do Ceará (UFC, in Portuguese), from July 2009 to June 2010. The women were diagnosed with near miss according to the World Health Organization (WHO) criteria. The sample was divided into 2 groups: patients with (n = 827) and without hypertension (n = 101). The results were considered statistically significant when p < 0.05. The Pearson chi-squared and Fisher Exact tests were used for the categorical variables, and the Mann–Whitney U test was used for the continuous variables. Results In total, 51 participants with maternal near miss criteria were identified, and 36 of them had hypertensive disorders. Of these, 5 died and were obviously excluded from the near miss final group. In contrast, we observed 867 cases with non-near miss maternal morbidity criteria. During this period, there were 4,617 live births (LBs) in the institution that was studied. Conclusion In the severe morbidity/maternal near miss population, the presence of hypertensive complications was prevalent, constituting a risk factor for both the mother and the fetus.

RESUMO Objetivo: Analisar a acurácia do Score for Neonatal Acute Physiology Perinatal Extension (SNAPPE II) como preditor de óbito, determinar o ponto de corte para mortalidade e analisar a associação das variáveis independentes com óbito. Métodos: Estudo prospectivo, longitudinal, de base hospitalar com recém-nascidos admitidos pela primeira vez na Unidade de Terapia Intensiva Neonatal (UTIN) entre 1° de novembro de 2016 e 30 de abril de 2017. Foram excluídos recém-nascidos com permanência menor que 12 horas na UTIN, nascimento extra-hospitalar, malformações congênitas maiores e transferência inter-hospitalar. As variáveis foram agrupadas sob determinação hierarquizada, relacionadas a características maternas (nível distal), assistência ao pré-natal e parto (nível intermediário) e condições do nascimento (nível proximal). Foram conduzidas análises descritivas dos graus de pontuação do SNAPPE II, Receiver Operating Characteristics Curve (curva ROC) para definição do ponto de corte para mortalidade e análise bivariada pelo teste de Wald e regressão logística múltipla. Resultados: Após seleção, a amostra constituiu-se de 247 recém-nascidos. Neste estudo, o ponto de corte do SNAPPE II para mortalidade foi 27, com sensibilidade de 84,1% e especificidade de 82,4%. Evoluíram a óbito 61% daqueles com pontuação ≥27. A regressão logística múltipla mostrou associação entre óbito e variáveis de nível proximal: sepse (Odds Ratio [OR] 10,68; intervalo de confiança de 95% [IC95%] 2,82–40,48; p<0,001); pontuação ≥27 (OR 5,85; IC95% 1,90–18,05; p=0,002); peso ao nascer entre 750 e 999 g (OR 4,15; IC95% 1,06–16,14; p=0,040); e não uso de surfactante (OR 0,159; IC95% 0,04–0,53; p=0,003). Conclusões: A mortalidade neonatal foi diretamente proporcional ao aumento do SNAPPE II. Escore≥27 aumentou seis vezes a chance de óbito em relação aos neonatos com escore inferior. As variáveis proximais relacionadas às condições de saúde e da atenção neonatal associaram-se ao óbito.

ABSTRACT Objective: To analyze the accuracy of the Score for Neonatal Acute Physiology Perinatal Extension (SNAPPE II) as a death predictor, to determine the cutoff point for mortality, and to analyze the association of independent variables with death. Methods: Prospective, longitudinal, hospital-based study on newborns admitted to the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) for the first time from November 1, 2016 to April 30, 2017. Newborns with less than 12 hours of length of stay at the NICU, out-of-hospital births, major congenital malformations, and inter-hospital transfer were excluded. Variables were grouped according to hierarchical framework, related to maternal characteristics (distal level), prenatal and childbirth care (intermediate level), and birth conditions (proximal level). Descriptive analyses of SNAPPE II score ranges, Receiver Operating Characteristics Curve (ROC curve) to define the cutoff point for mortality, and bivariate analysis by the Wald test and multiple logistic regression were conducted. Results: After selection, the sample consisted of 247 newborns. In this study, the SNAPPE II cutoff point for mortality was 27, with sensitivity of 84.1% and specificity of 82.4%. 61% of those with a score ≥27 died. Multiple logistic regression showed an association between death and proximal-level variables: sepsis (Odds Ratio [OR] 10.68; 95% confidence interval [95%CI] 2.82–40.48; p<0.001); SNAPPE II ≥27 (OR 5.85; 95%CI 1.90–18.05; p=0.002); birth weight 750–999 g (OR 4.15; 95%CI 1.06–16.14; p=0.040); and nonuse of surfactant (OR 0.159; 95%CI 0.04–0.53; p=0.003). Conclusions: Neonatal mortality was directly proportional to increase in SNAPPE II. Score≥27 increased the odds of dying by six times compared with neonates with lower scores. The proximal variables related to health conditions and neonatal care were associated with death.

Resumo Objetivo Avaliar e comparar a sensibilidade e especificidade da ultrassonografia e da ressonância magnética no diagnóstico do acretismo placentário em pacientes com placenta prévia. Métodos Estudo de coorte retrospectivo com 37 mulheres, sendo 16 com acretismo placentário, realizado de janeiro de 2013 a outubro de 2015. Considerou-se padrãoouro para o diagnóstico de acretismo placentário o exame anatomopatológico, sendo que, na sua ausência, a descrição do achado intraoperatório. As associações entre variáveis foram investigadas utilizando o teste qui-quadrado de Pearson e o teste U de Mann-Whitney. Resultados A idade média foi de 31,8 ± 7,3 anos, o número médio de gestações foi de 2,8 ± 1,1, o número médio da quantidade de partos foi de 1,4 ± 0,7, e o número médio de cesáreas prévias foi de 1,2 ± 0,8. O grupo do acretismo placentário apresentou antecedente de cesariana mais frequentemente do que o grupo sem acretismo (63,6% versus 36,4%, respectivamente; p < 0,001). A idade gestacional no parto em mulheres com diagnóstico de placenta prévia com acretismo foi de 35,4 ± 1,1 semanas. O peso ao nascer médio foi de 2.635,9 ± 374,1 g. A sensibilidade do ultrassom foi de 87,5%, comvalor preditivo positivo (VPP) de 65,1%, e valor preditivo negativo (VPN) de 75,0%. Para a ressonância magnética, a sensibilidade foi de 92,9%, com VPP de 76,5% e VPN de 75,0%. O índice kappa para concordância entre os dois testes foi de 0,69 (intervalo de confiança de 95% [IC95%]: 0,26-1,00). Conclusão O ultrassom e a ressonância magnética apresentaram sensibilidade e especificidade semelhantes no diagnóstico do acretismo placentário.

Abstract Objective To assess and compare the sensitivity and specificity of ultrasonography and magnetic resonance imaging in the diagnosis of placenta accreta in patients with placenta previa. Methods This retrospective cohort study included 37 women, and was conducted between January 2013 and October 2015; 16 out of the 37 women suffered from placenta accreta. Histopathology was considered the gold standard for the diagnosis of placenta accreta; in its absence, a description of the intraoperative findings was used. The associations among the variables were investigated using the Pearson chi-squared test and the Mann-Whitney U-test. Results The mean age of the patients was 31.8 ± 7.3 years, the mean number of pregnancies was 2.8 ± 1.1, the mean number of births was 1.4 ± 0.7, and the mean number of previous cesarean sections was 1.2 ± 0.8. Patients with placenta accreta had a higher frequency of history of cesarean section than those without it (63.6% versus 36.4% respectively; p < 0.001). The mean gestational age at birth among women diagnosed with placenta previa accreta was 35.4 ± 1.1 weeks. The mean birth weight was 2,635.9 ± 374.1 g. The sensitivity of the ultrasound was 87.5%, with a positive predictive value (PPV) of 65.1%, and a negative predictive value (NPV) of 75.0%. The sensitivity of the magnetic resonance imaging was 92.9%, with a PPV of Conclusion The ultrasound and the magnetic resonance imaging showed similar sensitivity and specificity for the diagnosis of placenta accreta.

Objective to analyze the scientific evidence about the factors influencing maternal near miss cases and possible guidelines for reducing maternal morbidity and mortality. Methods integrative review with 2895 articles found and 17 selected articles. Results the factors influencing the near miss cases were: delays in obstetric care; unprepared health team; precarious conditions of services; limited availability of blood derivatives; and prenatal disability, the limited use of evidence-based practices and audits. As main directions to minimize these events, we have evidenced: to strengthen the network of reference and counter-reference; carry out professional training; improve prenatal coverage; and invest in infrastructure, process management and clinical audits. Conclusion the factors that influence the maternal near miss cases range from delayed care to failure to perform prenatal care, whose management improvement is the main direction.

Objetivo analisar as evidências científicas acerca dos fatores que influenciam os casos de near miss materno e possíveis direcionamentos para redução da morbidade e mortalidade materna. Métodos revisão integrativa com 2.895 artigos encontrados e 17 selecionados. Resultados os fatores que influenciam nos casos de near miss foram: atrasos nos cuidados obstétricos; despreparo da equipe de saúde; condições precárias dos serviços; disponibilidade limitada de derivados de sangue; e deficiência no pré-natal, no uso de Práticas Baseadas em Evidências e nas auditorias. Como principais direcionamentos para minimizar esses eventos, evidenciaram-se: fortalecer a rede de referência e contrarreferência; realizar capacitação profissional; melhorar a cobertura do pré-natal; e investir na infraestrutura, na gestão de processos e em auditorias clínicas. Conclusão os fatores que influenciam os casos de near miss materno englobam desde o atraso nos cuidados até a não realização do pré-natal, cuja melhoria na gestão constitui o principal direcionamento.

ABSTRACT Objective: The aim of this study was to compare the incidence of different criteria of maternal near miss in women admitted to an obstetric intensive care unit and their sensitivity and specificity in identifying cases that have evolved to morbidity. Method: A cross-sectional analytical epidemiological study was conducted with women admitted to the intensive care unit of the Maternity School Assis Chateaubriand in Ceará, Brazil. The Chi-square test and odds ratio were used. Results: 560 records were analyzed. The incidence of maternal near miss ranged from 20.7 in the Waterstone criteria to 12.4 in the Geller criteria. The maternal near-miss mortality ratio varied from 4.6:1 to 7.1:1, showing better index in the Waterstone criteria, which encompasses a greater spectrum of severity. The Geller and Mantel criteria, however, presented high sensitivity and low specificity. Except for the Waterstone criteria, there was an association between the three other criteria and maternal death. Conclusion: The high specificity of Geller and Mantel criteria in identifying maternal near miss considering the World Health Organization criteria as a gold standard and a lack of association between the criteria of Waterstone with maternal death.

RESUMEN Objetivo: El estudio tiene el fin de comparar la incidencia de criterios distintos de near miss materno en mujeres ingresadas en una UCI obstétrica y la sensibilidad y especificidad de identificación de los casos que evolucionaron a morbilidad. Método: Estudio transversal epidemiológico analítico, compuesto de mujeres ingresadas en UCI de la Maternidad Escuela Assis Chateaubriand en Ceará, Brasil. Las pruebas de chi-cuadrado y Odds Ratio fueron utilizadas. Resultados: 560 registros fueron analizados. La incidencia de near miss materno varió de 20,7 en los criterios de Waterstone a 12,4 en los criterios de Geller. La proporción de mortalidad por near miss materno varió de 4,6:1 a 7,1:1, demostrando mejor índice en los criterios de Waterstone, lo que abarca un mayor espectro de gravedad. Sin embargo, los criterios de Geller y Mantel presentaron alta sensibilidad y baja especificidad. Excepto por los criterios de Waterstone, hubo una asociación entre los tres otros criterios y muerte materna. Conclusión: Fue encontrada alta especificidad de criterios de Geller y Mantel en la identificación del near miss materno considerando los criterios de la Organización Mundial de la Salud como regla de oro y una ausencia de asociación entre los criterios de Waterstone con la muerte materna.

Os critérios de Geller e Mantel, contudo, apresentaram alta sensibilidade e baixa especificidade. Exceto pelos critérios de Waterstone, houve uma associação entre os três outros critérios e morte materna. Conclusão: Foi encontrada alta especificidade de critérios de Geller e Mantel na identificação do near miss materno considerando os critérios da Organização Mundial da Saúde como padrão-ouro e uma falta de associação entre os critérios de Waterstone com a morte materna.
