ABSTRACT Objective: To evaluate the role of being human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) positive for predicting the risk of recurrence in women with a cervical high grade squamous intraepithelial lesion (HSIL) diagnosis. Methods: Retrospective observational case-control study, comprising HIV positive (case) and HIV negative (control) women in a 1:4 ratio. Women assisted by the Erasto Gaertner Hospital, between 2009-2018, with cervical HSIL diagnosis, submitted to treatment by Loop electrosurgical excision procedure (LEEP), and with a minimum follow-up of 18 months, were included. The immunological status, number and time to recurrence were analyzed, with p<0.05 considered significant. In a second analysis, only patients with free margins were evaluated. Results: The sample consisted of 320 women (64 cases and 256 controls). Presence of HIV, CD4 levels <200 and detectable viral load (CV) were associated with high risk of recurrence, with odds ratio (OR) of 5.4 (p<0.001/95CI:2.8-10); 3.6 (p<0.001 /IC95:0.6-21.1) and 1.8 (p=0.039 /IC95:0.3-9.3), respectively. In the sample with free margins (n=271), this risk was also higher among seropositive patients, with OR 4.18 (p=0.001/95CI:1.8-9.2). Conclusion: HIV is an independent risk factor for cervical HSIL recurrence and reduced disease-free survival time. Glandular involvement, compromised margins, undetectable CV and CD4<200 also increase the risk of relapse. ABSTRACT The combination of management practices affects weed populations and biodiversity. The objective was to evaluate the infesting weed community in the implementation of a corn silage (Zea mays L.) /pearl millet (Pennisetum glaucum L)/corn silage succession system subjected to early potassium fertilization in the winter crop. The experiment began in October 2019 under fallow area. In the 2019/20 summer season, corn silage was grown in a complete area. In the 2020 fall/winter season, the plots consisted of pearl millet, six doses of potassium fertilization (0, 30, 60, 90, 120 and 150 kg ha-1) and one fallow. In the 2020/21 summer season, the treatments consisted of corn silage and six doses of K2O, complementing the treatment applied in the previous harvest (120, 90, 60, 30, 0 kg ha-1) and one with recommended fertilization. Phytosociological evaluations of weeds were performed using a 0.25 m2 square. The density and number of species increased in the first year. RESUMO: Objetivo: Avaliar a associação entre o apoio social percebido e as características sociodemográficas e clínicas. Método: Estudo transversal, realizado em uma maternidade do noroeste do estado do Rio Grande do Sul/Brasil, no período de novembro de 2021 a abril de 2022. Aplicou-se questionário de caracterização sociodemográfica, clínica e escala de apoio social. Análise descritiva e inferencial. Resultados: Puérperas de ensino superior apresentaram médias mais altas de apoio emocional (p=0,015); as de cor branca, médias mais altas de apoio material (p=0,009); e aquelas de união estável, médias mais altas de apoio afetivo (p=0,0016), emocional (p=0,035), informação (p=0,019) e interação positiva (p=0,032). ABSTRACT Objective: To assess the association between perceived social support and sociodemographic and clinical characteristics. Method: A cross-sectional study was conducted in a maternity hospital northwest of Rio Grande do Sul/Brazil from November 2021 to April 2022. A sociodemographic and clinical characterization questionnaire and a social support scale were used. Descriptive and inferential analysis. Abstract The aim of the present study was to identify how the transition of care from the hospital to the community occurs from the perspective of puerperal women at risk. An integrative literature review was performed, with the question: “How does the transition of care for at-risk puerperal women from the hospital to the community occur?” The search period ranged from 2013 to 2020, in the following databases: PubMed, LILACS, SciELO, and Scopus. MESH, DeCS and Boolean operators “OR” and “AND” are used in the following crossover analysis:patient transfer ORtransition care ORcontinuity of patient care ORpatient discharge ANDpostpartum period, resulting in 6 articles. The findings denote discontinuity of care, given the frequency of non-adherence to the puerperal consultation. Transition studies of care in the puerperium were not found, which requires proposing new studies.

Resumo O objetivo do presente estudo foi identificar como ocorre a transição do cuidado do hospital para a comunidade na perspectiva de puérperas de risco. Foi realizada uma revisão integrativa da literatura, com a questão: “Como ocorre a transição do cuidado das puérperas de risco do hospital para a comunidade?” A pesquisa foi realizada com recorte temporal de 2013 a 2020, nas bases de dados: PubMed, LILACS, SciELO e Scopus. Utilizou-se MESH, DECS e operadores booleanos “OR” e “AND” resultando nos seguintes cruzamentos:patient transfer ORtransition care ORcontinuity of patient care ORpatient discharge ANDpostpartum period, com análise final de 6 artigos. Os achados denotam descontinuidade do cuidado, visto a frequência de não adesão à consulta puerperal. Estudos de transição do cuidado no puerpério não foram encontrados, o que requer que novos estudos sejam propostos.

ABSTRACT Objective: To evaluate the association of oral health-related quality of life (OHRQoL) with the longevity of ART-restorations in children after 18 months. Material and Methods: A longitudinal clinical study with 62 six- to seven-year-old children, both genders, 31 of whom underwent four weeks of oral health education strategy (OHES) followed by ART (GOHES+ART) and the others only ART (GART). The Brazilian short-version of the Child Perceptions Questionnaire (16-CPQ8-10) was used to evaluate the OHRQoL and the perception of change in oral health was assessed by a single question. Data was analyzed using Mann-Whitney, Wilcoxon and Friedman's tests. Results: After 18 months, GOHES+ART reported a greater impairment on OHRQoL, mainly in oral symptoms domain (p<0.05). In this period, greater impairment of oral symptoms was reported in children with failed restorations and with treatment considered to have a minor failure (p<0.05). In inter-group analysis, the GOHES+ART, with 2 to 4 restorations, Class I, of small size, located in the upper arch and with a smaller failure, reported more oral symptoms than the GART. Conclusion: In the long-term, children submitted to OHES followed by ART reported more oral symptoms. Factors such as number, class, size and location of the restorations need to be considered for the implementation of an efficient and effective oral health program, as well as for greater longevity of ART-restorations.

Abstract The demands of high-quality zucchini fruits by the consumer market make studies regarding the improvement of cultivation systems, such as plant nutrition and salinity tolerance. Considering the demands of the consumer market for the high quality of zucchini fruits, it is necessary studies regarding the improvement of production systems for this improvement, such as nutrition and salinity tolerance to plant. Thus, this study aimed to evaluate the zucchini fruits quality characteristics, grown in soilless, under N:K ratios, and levels of electrical conductivity of the nutrient solution. The experiment was conducted in a protected environment in pots with 8.2 dm3 of volumetric capacity filled with commercial substrate. The trial design adopted was randomized blocks, with three replicates, in a 5x3 factorial scheme, with five levels of electrical conductivity (1.0; 2.0; 3.0; 4.0; and 5.0 dS m-1) and three N:K ratios (2:1; 1:1; and 1:2), both in the nutrient solution. The application of the nutrient solution was by fertigation through drip irrigation. Throughout the experiment, variables related to fruit quality and total plant biomass production were analyzed. The increase of the electrical conductivity in the nutrient solution provided an increase in the values of fruits organoleptic properties. RESUMEN: Estudios previos de nuestro grupo describieron las consecuencias del uso de etanol en la erección del pene. Sin embargo, los mecanismos moleculares que rodean a los microARN, el proceso de apoptosis y su relación con la disfunción eréctil asociada con el consumo de alcohol aún no se conocen bien. El objetivo de este análisis fue evaluar el mecanismo de apoptosis mediante la expresión de AIF y PARP, así como sus microARN reguladores: miR-145, miR-210 y miR-486, en el cuerpo cavernoso de ratas sometidas a un modelo de alcoholismo semivoluntario. Se dividieron 24 ratas Wistar en dos grupos: control (C) grupo de ratas tratadas con etanol al 20 % (A) durante siete semanas. Las muestras del cuerpo cavernoso se prepararon para el análisis inmunohistoquímico de la expresión de la proteína AIF y PARP, y la expresión del gen microRNAs miR-145, miR-210, miR-486 en tejido cavernoso se realizó por PCR en tiempo real. El análisis inmunohistoquímico mostró escaso etiquetado nuclear positivo para la proteína PARP y AIF en el cuerpo cavernoso de los animales de control y tratados con etanol. Después del análisis de la expresión de microARN miR-145, -210 y -486 no se encontraron resultados con diferencias estadísticas significativas entre los grupos control y alcoholizados. SUMMARY: Previous studies from our group described the consequences of using ethanol on penile erection. Nevertheless, the molecular mechanisms surrounding microRNAs, apoptosis process and their relationship with erectile dysfunction associated with alcohol consumption are still poorly understood. The objective of this analysis was to evaluate the mechanism of apoptosis by the expression of AIF and PARP, as well as their regulatory microRNAs: miR-145, miR-210 and miR-486, in the corpus cavernosum of rats submitted to a semivoluntary alcoholism model. For this study 24 Wistar rats were divided into two groups: control (C) and treated with 20 % ethanol (A) for seven weeks. The corpus cavernosum samples were prepared for immunohistochemical analysis of AIF and PARP protein expression, and microRNAs miR-145, miR-210, miR-486 gene expression in cavernous tissue was performed by real time PCR. The immunohistochemical analysis showed little nuclear positive labeling for the protein PARP and AIF in the corpus cavernosum of control and ethanol treated animals. After analysis of miR-145, -210 and -486 microRNA expression in the 12 animals studied, no results were found with significant statistical difference between the control and alcoholized groups. The expression of AIF and PARP and their regulatory microRNAs involved in apoptotic process (miR-145, miR-210 and miR-486) were not altered in the corpus cavernosum of rats submitted to semivoluntary alcoholism.

Abstract The comprehension of the social determinants of the main infectious diseases is necessary for its effective control. A transversal study has been designed with data from medical registers concerning the first appointment of the pediatric patients on “Centro de Referência em Doenças Infecciosas e Parasitárias Orestes Diniz UFMG/PBH”, with the objective of investigating the prevalence and determinants of the major infectious diseases among these children. Data from 173 registers was obtained, from which 78.6% were less than 2 years old. Most patients (74.5%) presented congenital infections: 27.7% with syphilis, 21.3% with toxoplasmosis and 20.8% exposed to the human immunodeficiency virus. This practice offers care to children of all ages, from the entire state, and most of them present congenital infections. A quality pre-natal care leads to both a precocious diagnose of these diseases, with appropriate monitoring and treatment, and the practice of preventive measures, hence reducing the incidence of those infections.

Resumo A compreensão dos determinantes sociais das principais doenças infecto-parasitárias é necessária para seu controle efetivo. Foi realizado um estudo transversal com dados de primeira consulta de prontuários médicos das crianças atendidas no Centro de Referência em Doenças Infecciosas e Parasitárias Orestes Diniz UFMG/PBH, com objetivo de investigar a prevalência e os determinantes das principais doenças infecto-parasitárias na população pediátrica. Foram obtidos dados de 173 prontuários, sendo que 78,6% eram crianças com menos de 2 anos de idade. A maioria dos pacientes (74,5%) apresentava infecções congênitas: 27,7% por sífilis, 21,3%, por toxoplasmose, 20,8%, pelo vírus da imunodeficiência humana, dentre outras. Esse ambulatório recebe crianças de todas as faixas etárias, de todo o estado, sendo sua maioria acometida por infecções congênitas. A qualificação do pré-natal leva tanto a um diagnóstico precoce quanto a um acompanhamento, tratamento adequado e à prática de medidas preventivas, reduzindo a incidência dessas infecções.

A caracterização de variabilidade genética é essencial para qualquer programa de melhoramento. O conhecimento dos genótipos permite que o melhorista planeje seus cruzamentos objetivando a ampliação da variância genética. O objetivo deste trabalho foi caracterizar e agrupar o germoplasma de trigo disponível para o melhorista do Sul do Brasil através dos caracteres adaptativos ciclo e estatura. Foram avaliados 53 genótipos e evidenciada uma redução significativa dos dois caracteres analisados no decorrer das últimas décadas. O agrupamento dos genótipos revelou a formação de cinco grupos principais, constituídos, basicamente, de cultivares da mesma época de recomendação para cultivo.

Identification of genetic variability is crucial in any breeding program. The knowledge of genotypes helps the breeder in planning crosses aiming to increase genetic variance. The objective of this study was to identify and cluster useful wheat germplasm through the adaptive characters heading date and plant height. Fifty-three wheat genotypes which revealed a significant decrease of both characters in the last years were evaluated. The dendrogram clustered five groups composed mainly of cultivars of the same era of release.
