Abstract Amburana cearensis tree is used in various applications, from artisanal to pharmaceutical use. However, the gum extracted from its exudate has not yet been investigated. This study aimed to the physicochemical and structural characterization of Amburana cearensis Gum (AcG) by elemental, rheological, and thermal analyses, X-ray diffraction (XRD), high-Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC), Gel Permeation Chromatography (GPC), Infrared Spectroscopy (FTIR), UV-Vis spectroscopy and nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR). Additionally, a hemolytic assay was performed to evaluate the biocompatibility of AcG using human erythrocytes. The results showed that AcG consists of β-D-Galactopyranose monomers linked by glycosidic bonds (1→3). At the same time, the side chains exhibit β-Galactopyranose (1→6) and α-L-Arabinofuranoside (1→3,6) monomers as non-reducing terminals, whose biocompatibility was excellent in the model used. AcG was described for the first time as a biopolymer that could have broad applications in the pharmaceutical and cosmetic industries, justifying the interest in further studies about AcG applications. use However investigated (AcG elemental rheological analyses Xray X ray XRD, XRD , (XRD) highPerformance high Performance HPLC, HPLC (HPLC) GPC, GPC (GPC) FTIR, FTIR (FTIR) UVVis UV Vis NMR. Abstract Research methodologies are influenced by hierarchical power structures that shape the means, discourses, and knowledge involved, with varying degrees of control. As researchers in occupational therapy, these considerations have prompted us to reflect on how we experience and understand research and knowledge construction through the lens of human activities and ethical-political stances. In this paper, we advocate for cartography as a qualitative research-intervention method that emphasizes the embodiment of the researcher within the research process. We aim to showcase distinct approaches to exploring the connection between cartography and occupational therapy, emphasizing the dynamic movements and emergent phenomena within these processes. Our discussion is framed around two key acts of storytelling: 1) Ethical-methodological considerations in engaging with cartographic insights through experimentation, interpretation, and innovation; and 2) Emergent challenges in occupational therapy that inform the development of specific perspectives and methodologies. Through these fabulations, we reveal a sensitive-critical dimension that interweaves lived experience and (r)existence/resistance in the production of contextually situated and socially engaged knowledge, wherein the human activity of researching is embedded in feeling-doing-thinking-being a researcher. means discourses involved control ethicalpolitical ethical political stances paper researchintervention intervention process processes storytelling 1 Ethicalmethodological Ethical methodological experimentation interpretation innovation 2 fabulations sensitivecritical sensitive critical rexistence/resistance rexistenceresistance r existence/resistance existence resistance feelingdoingthinkingbeing feeling doing thinking being rexistence existenceresistance
éticopolítico ético político. político ético-político manuscrito pesquisaintervenção intervenção doa do(a cartógrafoa cartógrafo cartógrafo(a pesquisadoraobjeto. pesquisadoraobjeto pesquisador objeto. objeto pesquisador(a)-objeto Tratase Trata processos atosfabulação atos fabulação atos-fabulação 1 éticometodológicos metodológicos experimentação 2 Revelase Revela sensívelcrítica, sensívelcrítica sensível crítica, crítica sensível-crítica rexistência r existência comprometidos sentirfazerpensarser sentir fazer pesquisadora. pesquisadora . pesquisador(a) pesquisador(a

Abstract Objective To analyze the Knowledge, Attitudes, and Practices (KAP) of healthcare professionals during the care of older individuals living with dementia, concerning the caregiving situations experienced by informal caregivers, and its association with sociodemographic and professional factors. Method A cross-sectional analytical KAP study was conducted in the municipality of Tangará da Serra, Mato Grosso, with 20 nurses and 20 physicians from Family Health Units. Data were collected through interviews using an instrument developed based on the available literature on KAP studies. Descriptive analysis and bivariate analysis of the association between the knowledge, attitudes, and practices of healthcare professionals and sociodemographic and professional variables were performed using the Fisher's exact test, with a significance level of 5%. Results Healthcare professionals demonstrated satisfactory knowledge and favorable attitudes towards caregiving situations experienced by informal caregivers of older individuals living with dementia. However, 65% of professionals exhibited insufficient practices directed at caregivers, including guidance, support groups, and health education. No significant association was found between knowledge, attitudes, practices, and sociodemographic or professional variables. Conclusion Despite healthcare professionals possessing satisfactory knowledge of caregiving situations and positive attitudes towards informal caregivers, their practices are inadequate in meeting their needs. This deficiency does not contribute to enabling caregivers to cope with the various challenges that arise during the course of the disease for both the older individual and the caregivers themselves. Abstract The aim of this study was to identify and analyze the characteristics of the 100 most cited articles about dental sealants (DS) in dentistry. In September 2023, a search was performed in the Web of Science Core Collection (WoS-CC) database. The following information was extracted from each article: number and density of citations, year of publication, authorship, journal, impact factor, keywords, study design, theme, continent, country, and institution. The citations of the WoS-CC were compared with those of the Scopus and Google Scholar databases. The VOSviewer software was used to generate collaborative networks. The number of citations ranged from 33 to 205. The articles were published between 1961 and 2016. Buonocore MG (7%) was the most prominent author among the most cited. The Journal of the American Dental Association was the most frequent journal (25%) and Journal of Dental Research (7.6) had the highest impact factor. Most studies had interventional (41%) and laboratory (31%) designs, mainly addressing DS effectiveness in the prevention and control of dental caries (86%). There was a predominance of publications from North America (46%) and the USA was the country with the highest number of articles (44%). The most frequent institutions were the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (USA) and the University of Rochester (USA) (6% each). “Retention” was the most frequent keyword. In conclusion, the 100 most cited articles were mostly interventional and laboratory studies, addressing the retention and efficacy of DS. Most of the articles were concentrated in North America and Europe, demonstrating a little collaboration from other continents. 10 (DS dentistry 2023 WoSCC WoS CC (WoS-CC database article publication authorship factor keywords design theme continent institution databases networks 3 205 196 2016 7% 7 (7% 25% 25 (25% 7.6 76 6 (7.6 41% 41 (41% 31% 31 (31% designs 86%. 86 86% . ABSTRACT The limited temporal completeness and taxonomic accuracy of species lists, made available in a traditional manner in scientific publications, has always represented a problem. These lists are invariably limited to a few taxonomic groups and do not represent up-to-date knowledge of all species and classifications. In this context, the Brazilian megadiverse fauna is no exception, and the Catálogo Taxonômico da Fauna do Brasil (CTFB) (http://fauna.jbrj.gov.br/), made public in 2015, represents a database on biodiversity anchored on a list of valid and expertly recognized scientific names of animals in Brazil. The CTFB is updated in near real time by a team of more than 800 specialists. By January 1, 2024, the CTFB compiled 133,691 nominal species, with 125,138 that were considered valid. Most of the valid species were arthropods (82.3%, with more than 102,000 species) and chordates (7.69%, with over 11,000 species). These taxa were followed by a cluster composed of Mollusca (3,567 species), Platyhelminthes (2,292 species), Annelida (1,833 species), and Nematoda (1,447 species). All remaining groups had less than 1,000 species reported in Brazil, with Cnidaria (831 species), Porifera (628 species), Rotifera (606 species), and Bryozoa (520 species) representing those with more than 500 species. Analysis of the CTFB database can facilitate and direct efforts towards the discovery of new species in Brazil, but it is also fundamental in providing the best available list of valid nominal species to users, including those in science, health, conservation efforts, and any initiative involving animals. The importance of the CTFB is evidenced by the elevated number of citations in the scientific literature in diverse areas of biology, law, anthropology, education, forensic science, and veterinary science, among others. publications problem uptodate up date classifications context exception (CTFB http//fauna.jbrj.gov.br/, httpfaunajbrjgovbr http //fauna.jbrj.gov.br/ , jbrj gov br (http://fauna.jbrj.gov.br/) 2015 Brazil 80 specialists 1 2024 133691 133 691 133,69 125138 125 138 125,13 82.3%, 823 82 3 (82.3% 102000 102 000 102,00 7.69%, 769 7 69 (7.69% 11000 11 11,00 . 3,567 3567 567 (3,56 2,292 2292 2 292 (2,29 1,833 1833 833 (1,83 1,447 1447 447 (1,44 1000 1,00 831 (83 628 (62 606 (60 520 (52 50 users science health biology law anthropology education others http//fauna.jbrj.gov.br/ faunajbrjgovbr //fauna.jbrj.gov.br (http://fauna.jbrj.gov.br/ 201 8 202 13369 13 133,6 12513 12 125,1 82.3% (82.3 10200 10 00 102,0 7.69% 76 6 (7.69 1100 11,0 3,56 356 56 (3,5 2,29 229 29 (2,2 1,83 183 83 (1,8 1,44 144 44 (1,4 100 1,0 (8 62 (6 60 52 (5 5 http//fauna.jbrj.gov.br (http://fauna.jbrj.gov.br 20 1336 133, 1251 125, 82.3 (82. 1020 0 102, 7.69 (7.6 110 11, 3,5 35 (3, 2,2 22 (2, 1,8 18 (1, 1,4 14 4 ( 82. ABSTRACT Toxoplasmosis is a widespread zoonotic disease that poses significant public health concern globally, with neurotoxoplasmosis being a severe complication associated with high mortality rates. The standard therapy for neurotoxoplasmosis involves a combination of sulfadiazine and pyrimethamine, which, despite its efficacy, is often limited by adverse effects leading to treatment discontinuation. This study aimed to evaluate the in vivo efficacy of nitazoxanide in treating neurotoxoplasmosis in mice infected with the Me49 strain. The study comprised two groups: Group I, including subgroups of uninfected, infected and treated with saline, and infected and untreated mice; and Group II, comprising infected mice treated with nitazoxanide at 100 mg/kg/day, nitazoxanide at 150 mg/kg/day, and pyrimethamine combined with sulfadiazine. After 14 days of treatment, the mice were euthanized for organ collection. Histopathological examination of the brains revealed that the highest dose of nitazoxanide reduced parasitic load and cerebral hemorrhages. Biochemical and histopathological analyses of liver and kidney tissues demonstrated toxicological profiles comparable to pyrimethamine and sulfadiazine. However, despite showing efficacy and similar toxicity levels, nitazoxanide treatment was less effective regimen in controlling neurotoxoplasmosis in this experimental model compared to the pyrimethamine and sulfadiazine. Thus, while nitazoxanide presents potential in neurotoxoplasmosis treatment, pyrimethamine combined with sulfadiazine remains the preferred therapeutic choice based on better efficacy observed in this study. globally rates which discontinuation Me Me4 strain groups I uninfected saline II 10 mgkgday mg kg day mg/kg/day 15 1 collection hemorrhages However levels Thus

ABSTRACT Objective: To compare the glucose metabolism of patients with chronic hepatitis C virus infection treated with direct-acting antivirals (DAAs) in pretreatment and sustained viral response (SVR) periods. Materials and methods: This was an intervention pre-post study of 273 patients with chronic hepatitis C virus infection treated with DAAs from March 2018 to December 2019. Glycidic metabolism was evaluated through homeostasis model assessment (HOMA) – insulin resistance (IR) and HOMA-β indices and assessments of insulinemia and HbA1c levels. These parameters were analyzed with a T test by paired comparison of the means of the variables and Wilcoxon's test paired for the median; in the variables with an abnormal distribution, the Z score was generated for the mean in both the pretreatment and SVR periods. Statistical significance was considered at p ≤ 0.05. Results: Among 273 participants, 125 (45.8%) had prediabetes, and 50 (18.3%) had diabetes. In SVR, there was a significant increase in platelets, albumin, alkaline phosphatase, cholesterol and triglycerides and a significant decrease in aspartate aminotransferase, alanine aminotransferase, gamma GT and bilirubin. The HOMA-IR and HOMA-β indices increased in SVR from 1.95 to 2.29 (p = 0.087) and 71.20 to 82.60 (p = 0.001), respectively. Insulinemia increased from 7.60 μU/mL to 8.90 μU/mL (p = 0.011). HbA1c decreased from 5.6 to 5.4 (p < 0.001). Among patients with prediabetes and those with diabetes, the reduction in HbA1c values was significant (p = 0.006 and p = 0.026, respectively). Conclusion: SVR significantly impacts and leads to improvement in glucose metabolism in patients with chronic liver disease induced by hepatitis C virus. Abstract Introduction: Sudden sensorineural hearing loss presents with tinnitus in up to 90% of cases. Tinnitus constitutes a subjective complaint, therefore hard to quantify and evaluate. Hyperbaric oxygen therapy (HOT) constitutes a valuable adjunctive therapy in patients who are only parcially responsive or refractory to corticoid treatment, but the effect it may have on tinnitus remains poorly studied. Goals: To evaluate HOT effect on tinnitus and audiometric evolution in sudden sensorineural hearing loss with tinnitus, refractory to corticoid treatment. Methods: This paper presents a prospective non-controlled study that applied Tinnitus Handicap Inventory (THI) before and after treatment with HOT. The study was carried in the Portuguese Navy’s Center for Hyperbaric and Subaquatic Medicine, between May and December, 2018. The Center’s HOT protocol included on average 20 sessions at 2.5 ATM for 90 minutes. The statistic analysis was performed using IBM SPSS Statistics 26 software. Resuls: 57 patients were included in the study, with ages between 25-78 years (average 51), 50.8% female. The average time between symptom onset and HOT was 34,9 days. We were able to make an inverse correlation between the symptom-treatment window and hearing outcomes (p=0,045). The average hearing outcome was of 17dB. According to Spiegel’s hearing outcome classification, there was complete recovery in 19% of patients, parcial recovery in 23%, slight improvement in 33% and no improvement in 25% of patients. Regarding tinnitus, most patients had a THI classification of grade 3 or 4 before treatment (71%). After treatment, 77% of patients presented a THI score <3. We observed an improvement of THI classification even in patients with no audiometric improvement. Conclusion: This data concludes that, besides improving hearing outcomes, HOT seems to have a positive effect in improving tinnitus and it’s impact in the patient’s quality of life. Patients should be referred to HOT treatment as soon as possible, since the window between symptom onset and HOT treatment has a significant effect on hearing outcomes.

ABSTRACT Objective: COVID-19 has been associated with a significant burden to those who survive the acute phase. We aimed to describe the quality of life and symptoms of anxiety, depression, and posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) at 90 days after hospital discharge of COVID-19 patients. Methods: Patients with COVID-19 admitted to a private hospital in the city of São Paulo, Brazil, between April of 2020 and April of 2021 were interviewed by telephone at 30 and 90 days after discharge to assess the quality of life and symptoms of depression, anxiety, and PTSD. Results: A total of 2,138 patients were included. The mean age was 58.6 ± 15.8 years, and the median length of hospital stay was 9.0 (5.0-15.8) days. Between the two time points, depression increased from 3.1% to 7.2% (p < 0.001), anxiety increased from 3.2% to 6.2% (p < 0.001), and PTSD increased from 2.3% to 5.0% (p < 0.001). At least one physical symptom related to COVID-19 diagnosis persisted in 32% of patients at day 90. Conclusions: Persistence of physical symptoms was high even at 90 days after discharge. Although the prevalence of symptoms of anxiety, depression, and PTSD was low, these symptoms persisted for three months, with a significant increase between the time points. This finding indicates the need to identify at-risk patients so that they can be given an appropriate referral at discharge. ABSTRACT This article aims to analyze the Brazilian academic publications on fights and Physical Education. We used content analysis through a state of knowledge, with 38 articles as corpus. As results we built four empirical analytical categories: 1) Space and sociocultural aspects: they point the lack of infrastructure and the scarcity of materials as restrictive factors for the approach of the fight contents in schools; 2) Technologies/media: that serve as auxiliary tools for the inclusion of fights in school Physical Education; 3) Physical Education curriculum: addresses issues related to content, culture, documents and teachers; and 4) Pedagogical practice: which involves more specific issues observed in the studies, such as methodologies involving the application of the content to classes, experiences, dimensions of the content, activities and implications about the themes discussed in the content, such as the association with violence, gender discrimination and sexuality. We conclude that the studies show that the approach of fights as content in schools is still incipient, being the insecurity of the teacher a preponderant factor so that fights are not inserted. Thus, studies indicate the need to create materials and methodologies that help teachers, thus enabling the use of content already consolidated in the literature. knowledge 3 corpus categories 1 aspects 2 Technologies/media Technologiesmedia Technologies media curriculum culture teachers 4 practice classes experiences violence sexuality incipient inserted Thus literature
Aim to evaluate the clinical efficacy of an acetaminophen analgesic by comparing its prescription in fixed versus on-demand schedules after periodontal surgery. The hypothesis of the study was that the fixed regimen would be more effective than the on-demand regimen for postoperative analgesics following periodontal surgery. Methods An open randomized clinical trial was conducted. The 68 patients who needed total flap surgery to restore supracrestal tissue attachment or surgical treatment of periodontitis were randomized”. Visual Analogue Scale was used to assess pain. The fixed group (n = 34) received 500 mg of acetaminophen every 4 hours for 2 days. The on-demand group (n = 34) was instructed to use the acetaminophen “as needed,” at intervals of no less than 4 hours between doses. Ibuprofen was the rescue medication for both groups. Pain scores and medication use were recorded 2, 6, 12, 24 and 48 hours after the surgical procedure. The study was registered at the Brazilian Registry of Clinical Trials under RBR-7wv259. Results The two groups did not differ in relation to the frequency or the intensity of pain in a 48-hour period (n=20 in the fixed group, and n=22 in the on-demand group), or even in the intention-to-treat (n=34 in each group). Individuals who experienced moderate to severe pain used rescue medication more frequently in both groups. No adverse events were reported. Conclusion Both regimens were effective in controlling postoperative pain after periodontal surgery. ondemand on demand conducted 6 randomized. . randomized” n 34 50 days as needed, doses 12 procedure RBR7wv259. SUMMARY OBJECTIVE: The objective of this study, carried out at the university hospital of the Federal University of Rio Grande, was to assess whether the treatment of chronic hepatitis C with direct-acting antivirals and the sustained virological response will affect the metabolic influences of the hepatitis C virus and whether these effects will vary according to genotypes and virus load. METHODS: This is an intervention pre-post study, carried out from March 2018 to December 2019, evaluating 273 hepatitis C virus patients treated with direct-acting antivirals. Inclusion criteria included being monoinfected with hepatitis C virus and achieving sustained virological response . Exclusion criteria included the presence of decompensated cirrhosis or co-infected with hepatitis B virus or human immunodeficiency virus. Genotypes, genotype 1 subtypes, and hepatitis C virus viral load were analyzed. Glucose metabolism was evaluated by the Homeostasis Model Assessment-insulin resistance indices: Homeostasis Model Assessment-β, TyG, and HbA1c, measured at the beginning of treatment and in sustained virological response. Statistical analysis with a T test by paired comparison of the means of the variables in the pretreatment and in the sustained virological response. RESULTS: Homeostasis Model Assessment-insulin resistance analysis: there were no significant differences between pretreatment and sustained virological response. Homeostasis Model Assessment-β analysis: significant increase in genotype 1 patients (p<0.028). TyG index analysis: significant increase in genotype 1b (p<0.017), genotype 3 (p<0.024), and genotype non-1 with low viral load (p<0.039). HbA1c analysis: significant decrease in genotype 3 (p<0.001) and genotype non-1 patients with low viral load (p<0.005). CONCLUSION: We detected significant metabolic influences after sustained virological response: impairment in lipid profile and improvements in the glucose metabolism. We found significant differences in genotype dependence, genotype 1 subtypes, and viral load. Abstract Fetal bovine serum (FBS) is the most used supplement in culture media; however, it may interfere with in vitro assays via effects on cell proliferation and cytokine production. The ideal FBS concentration for assays using apical papilla cells (APCs) remains unknown. Therefore, this study aimed to evaluate the effects of FBS on APC activation, cell viability/proliferation, and cytokine production. Methodology Human APCs were cultured, plated, and maintained in media containing increasing concentrations of FBS for 24 h, 48 h, 72 h, 7 days, and 14 days in the presence of Lipopolysaccharide (LPS - 1 µg/mL). At each time point, the cells were subjected to the MTT assay. The cytokines transforming growth factor (TGF)-β1, osteoprotegerin (OPG), and interleukin (IL)-6, along with the chemokine CCL2, were quantified using the enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay at the 24-h time-point. Statistical analysis was performed using two-way analysis of variance (ANOVA) followed by Tukey's post-hoc test (p<0.05). Results In general, APCs exhibited increasing metabolic activity in an FBS concentration-dependent fashion, regardless of the presence of LPS. In contrast, FBS interfered with the production of all the cytokines evaluated in this study, affecting the response induced by the presence of LPS. Conclusion FBS increased APC metabolism in a concentration-dependent manner and differentially affected the production of TGF-β1, OPG, IL-6, and CCL2 by APCs in vitro. Abstract Polyphenolics from Rhizophora mangle (R. mangle) have shown wound healing and anti- inflammatory effects that may be potentiated by being associated with ascorbic acid, an important substance for collagen and elastin synthesis that plays a role in tissue repair. In our study, we aimed to formulate an association of R. mangle and ascorbic acid in hydrogels and evaluate the association’s cytotoxic and immunomodulatory effects. In a pre-formulation study, three gelling polymers (i.e.xanthan gum, poloxamer and hydroxyethyl cellulose) were tested. The selected polymer (i.e. xanthan gum) was used to evaluate cytotoxic and immunomodulatory effects using flow cytometry. Xanthan gum (1.5%) had a homogeneous appearance, an orange colour, a smooth surface, intense brightness and the typical odour, as well as non-Newtonian pseudoplastic behaviour. With a pH of 5.0-5.3 and a non-cytotoxic profile, xanthan gum induced the proliferation and activation of CD4 +, CD8+ and NK T lymphocytes and the production of IL- 2, IL-4, IL-10, IL-17 and TNF-α cytokines in stimulated splenocytes. The results suggest that the association of R. mangle and ascorbic acid in 1.5% xanthan gum hydrogel may be promising in preparations for wound-healing processes.
