Abstract Objective: Multiple sclerosis (MS) is a chronic inflammatory demyelinating disease of the central nervous system. Diagnosis is based on the Mc-Donalds criteria, magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) studies, and the expanded disability status scale (EDSS) which assesses disease progression. These criteria do not include the recently described cortical lesions. The aim of the study was to describe the most frequent location and morphology of cortical lesions in patients with MS in Puebla, Mexico. Methods: A descriptive, retrospective, cross-sectional, and analytical study was conducted on patients with MS at a tertiary care hospital. Patients diagnosed with relapsing-remitting, secondary-progressive, and progressive-relapsing MS variants with cranial magnetic resonance imaging were included in the study. Age, sex, MS variant, EDSS score, cognitive impairment, annual relapse rate, morphology, location, and number of cortical lesions were evaluated. Descriptive statistics were used. To compare features between groups, the χ2 test was used, and for correlations, the Spearman's Correlation Coefficient was used. A p ≤ 0.05 was considered significant. Results: Twenty-five patients met the selection criteria. The most frequent location of cortical lesions was the parietal region 84%, and the second was the temporal region 16%. The most common morphology was juxtacortical at 64% and mixed at 36%. The most frequent variant of MS was relapsing-remitting, present in 92%, and 8% had the secondary progressive variant. In the EDSS scale, the scores most frequently observed were 0.0 and 3.5. Conclusions: The most frequent location of cortical lesions was in the parietal region, and the most common morphology was juxtacortical.

Resumen Objetivo: La esclerosis múltiple es una enfermedad desmielinizante inflamatoria crónica del sistema nervioso central. El diagnóstico se basa en los criterios de Mc-Donalds, los estudios de Resonancia Magnética y la Escala Expandida del Estado de Discapacidad (EDSS) que evalúa la progresión de la enfermedad. Estos criterios no incluyen las lesiones corticales descritas recientemente. Describir la localización y morfología más frecuente de lesiones corticales en pacientes con esclerosis múltiple en Puebla, México. Métodos: Se realizó un estudio descriptivo, retrospectivo, transversal y analítico en pacientes con esclerosis múltiple en un hospital de tercer nivel de atención. Se incluyeron pacientes con diagnóstico de Esclerosis Múltiple con variantes Remitente-Recurrente, Secundaria-Progresiva y Progresiva-Recurrente con resonancia magnética de cráneo. Se evaluó edad, sexo, variante de esclerosis múltiple, puntaje de EDSS, deterioro cognitivo, tasa de recaída anual, morfología, ubicación y numero de lesiones corticales. Se utilizó estadística descriptiva. Para comparar características entre grupos se utilizó χ2, para correlaciones se utilizó Coeficiente de Correlación de Spearman. Una p ≤ 0.05 se consideró significativa. Resultados: 25 pacientes cumplieron con criterios de selección. La localización más frecuente de lesiones corticales fue la región parietal 84% y la segunda temporal 16%. La morfología más frecuente fue la yuxtacortical en un 64%, y la mixta en 36%. La variante más frecuente de esclerosis múltiple fue Remitente-Recurrente presente en 92%, y 8% la variante Secundaria Progresiva. En la escala de EDDS la puntuación con mayor frecuencia fue 0.0 y 3.5. Conclusiones: La localización más frecuente de las lesiones corticales fue en región parietal y la morfología más frecuente la yuxtacortical.

Abstract The effect of peptide toxins on voltage-gated ion channels can be reliably assessed using electrophysiological assays, such as the patch-clamp technique. However, much of the toxinological research done in Central and South America aims at purifying and characterizing biochemical properties of the toxins of vegetal or animal origin, lacking electrophysiological approaches. This may happen due to technical and infrastructure limitations or because researchers are unfamiliar with the techniques and cellular models that can be used to gain information about the effect of a molecule on ion channels. Given the potential interest of many research groups in the highly biodiverse region of Central and South America, we reviewed the most relevant conceptual and methodological developments required to implement the evaluation of the effect of peptide toxins on mammalian voltage-gated ion channels using patch-clamp. For that, we searched MEDLINE/PubMed and SciELO databases with different combinations of these descriptors: “electrophysiology”, “patch-clamp techniques”, “Ca2+ channels”, “K+ channels”, “cnidarian venoms”, “cone snail venoms”, “scorpion venoms”, “spider venoms”, “snake venoms”, “cardiac myocytes”, “dorsal root ganglia”, and summarized the literature as a scoping review. First, we present the basics and recent advances in mammalian voltage-gated ion channel’s structure and function and update the most important animal sources of channel-modulating toxins (e.g. cnidarian and cone snails, scorpions, spiders, and snakes), highlighting the properties of toxins electrophysiologically characterized in Central and South America. Finally, we describe the local experience in implementing the patch-clamp technique using two models of excitable cells, as well as the participation in characterizing new modulators of ion channels derived from the venom of a local spider, a toxins’ source less studied with electrophysiological techniques. Summary: Nitrogen is the most important nutrient for forage crops because of its contribution in various biochemical reactions in the different phenological stages of the plant. The main aim of this study is to develop a multiple linear regression model to estimate total nitrogen (Nt) in corn plants using spectral indexes. The percentage of total nitrogen (Nt) was determined through three plant samplings in four experimental plots. The estimation model was obtained to process the Sentinel-2 satellite images according to the plant sampling dates; 13 spectral indexes were calculated and the association between nitrogen and the reflectance values was analyzed by the principal component analysis (ACP), correlation matrix, and dendrogram. The indexes with the highest relationship were MCARI / OSAVI, TCARI / OSAVI, MCARI / OSAVI RE and TCARI / OSAVI RE, explaining more than 50% of the variability of the proposed model and a MSE of 0.12. This study indicates that the estimation obtained from Sentinel-2 spectral indexes images has great potential to determine nitrogen in crops. However, for future research, Nt estimation models should be obtained for each phenological crop stage.

Resumen: El nitrógeno es el nutriente más importante en cultivos forrajeros, debido a su participación en diversas reacciones bioquímicas en las diferentes etapas fenológicas de la planta. El objetivo del presente estudio fue desarrollar un modelo de regresión lineal múltiple para estimar el nitrógeno total (Nt) en planta de maíz a partir de imágenes satelitales. El porcentaje de Nt se determinó mediante tres muestreos de planta en cuatro parcelas experimentales. El modelo de estimación se obtuvo al procesar las imágenes satelitales Sentinel-2 de acuerdo a las fechas de muestreo, se calcularon 13 índices espectrales y se analizó la asociación entre los valores del contenido de nitrógeno y la reflectancia a través de: análisis de componentes principales (ACP), matriz de correlación y dendrograma. Los índices con mayor relación fueron MCARI/OSAVI, TCARI/OSAVI, MCARI/OSAVI RE y TCARI/OSAVI RE, esto permitió explicar más de 50% de la variabilidad del modelo propuesto y un EMC de 0.12. El presente estudio indicó que el cálculo de índices espectrales derivados de Sentinel-2 tiene gran potencial para conocer el estado nitrogenado del cultivo de maíz, sin embargo, para futuras investigaciones se sugiere obtener modelos de estimación de Nt por etapa fenológica del cultivo.

Resumen Introducción: La determinación del efecto de reabrir las escuelas sobre las tasas de infección pediátrica por SARS-CoV-2 (síndrome respiratorio agudo grave coronavirus 2) incrementó la necesidad de trasmitir la experiencia de los gobiernos de muchas regiones geográficas para mejores decisiones futuras en emergencias sanitarias similares. Métodos: Mediante un estudio prospectivo basado en una cohorte poblacional se dio seguimiento a los alumnos de 18,988 escuelas del Estado de México que iniciaron con el regreso a clases. Se implementaron filtros sanitarios diarios en cada escuela y cotidianamente se informaban a los enlaces jurisdiccionales a través de una red negativa. Los casos identificados eran confirmados a través de RT-PCR (reacción en cadena de la polimerasa con transcriptasa inversa). Se estimaron frecuencias simples de casos, porcentajes e incidencias de COVID-19. Las incidencias del estado se compararon con la incidencia nacional. Resultados: Un total de 3,586 casos fueron confirmados; 2,048 (57.1%) correspondieron a niños. Veinticuatro (0.6%) fueron hospitalizados por COVID-19 moderado a grave; nueve (37.5%) fallecieron, y solamente una correspondió a un escolar. A partir de la semana 36 se observó una tasa promedio de infecciones de 0.36. En la semana epidemiológica 40 se observó la mayor tasa de infección en escolares (1.01); a partir de esta semana se observa un declive de los casos hasta la semana 50. Conclusiones: La implementación de intervenciones no farmacéuticas tiene más ventajas que limitaciones, siempre y cuando las estrategias sean homogéneas y correctamente ejecutadas, lo que asegurará un adecuado control en los contagios.

Abstract Background: Determining the effect of reopening schools on pediatric SARS-CoV-2 (severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2) infection rates increased the need to share the experience of governments in many geographic regions for better future decision-making in similar health emergencies. Methods: Through a prospective study based on a population-based cohort, students from 18,988 schools in the State of Mexico who began returning to school were followed. Daily sanitation filters were implemented in each school and district liaisons were informed on a daily basis through a negative network. Identified cases were confirmed by reverse transcriptase-polymerase chain reaction. Simple case frequencies, percentages, and incidences of COVID-19 were estimated. State incidences were compared with the national incidence. Results: A total of 3,586 cases were confirmed; 2,048 (57.1%) were children. Twenty-four (0.6%) were hospitalized for moderate to severe COVID-19; nine (37.5%) died, and only one was a schoolchild. From week 36, an average infection rate of 0.36 was observed. The highest infection rate in schoolchildren was observed in epidemiologic week 40 (1.01); from this week on, a decrease in the number of cases was observed until week 50. Conclusions: The use of non-pharmaceutical interventions has more advantages than limitations, as long as the strategies are homogeneous and properly implemented to ensure adequate control of infections.

Abstract. 22. In many cities of Argentina, equine-drawn carts represent an economic livelihood for low-income families. These equines are generally in inadequate physical condition, which results in a sub-optimal performance and a serious detriment to their welfare. The aim of the present work was to determine the animal welfare state of working equines in peripheral neighborhoods of the City of Corrientes Capital, Argentina, using direct and indirect indicators. The population (n=42) presented an average age of 6.8 years and within it a 60% were stallions. Forty five percent of the animals presented suboptimal nutritional status, 43% of the cases presented oral alterations, 67% had skin lesions and 74% had inadequate hoof conditions. Almost all of the animals were alert to the approach of the observer, some reacting aggressively and others expressing abnormal behaviors. Equines were usually used during the morning hours, with loads of brick and sand being the most frequently recorded. According to their caretakers, the animals receive veterinary care on a regular basis, registering an alarming tendency to release them in empty lots, public squares or roads during rest hours. The sources of water and food, constituted by river water, alfalfa and corn, added to grazing during the rest, are positioned as the main alternatives. Thus, it is observed that the welfare state of the equines sampled in the city was between regular and bad, being evident the need for training of caretakers on responsible ownership and joint work between veterinarians and public agencies to address the problem.

Resumen 18. En numerosas ciudades de la Argentina, la tracción animal o también conocida como tracción a sangre (TAS) representa un medio de sustento económico para familias de escasos recursos; los equinos de la actividad generalmente se hallan en condiciones físicas inadecuadas, lo que resulta en un sub-óptimo desempeño y en un serio detrimento de su bienestar. El presente trabajo busca determinar el bienestar animal de los equinos de trabajo en barrios periféricos de la Ciudad de Corrientes Capital, Argentina, utilizando indicadores directos e indirectos. Los primeros se obtuvieron a través del examen físico y comportamental, mientras que los segundos, mediante encuestas a los tutores. La población (n=42) presentó un promedio de edad de 6,8 años y dentro de ella se identificó una subpoblación compuesta por un 60% de machos enteros. Se registró un 45% de animales con estados nutricionales subóptimos, un 43% de pacientes con alteraciones bucales, 67% con lesiones cutáneas y un 74% con condiciones inadecuadas de cascos. Casi la totalidad de los animales se mostraron alerta al acercamiento humano, reaccionando algunos de forma agresiva y otros con conductas anormales. Los animales son usualmente utilizados en horas de la mañana, siendo las cargas de ladrillo y arena las más frecuentemente registradas. Las encuestas revelaron que los animales reciben atención veterinaria, registrándose una alarmante tendencia a la liberación en baldíos, plazas o en la vía pública durante las horas de descanso. Las fuentes de agua y alimentos, constituidas por el agua de río, alfalfa y maíz se posicionan como las principales alternativas. Se observa así que el estado de bienestar de los equinos muestreados en la ciudad es regular a malo, siendo evidente la necesidad de capacitación de los tutores sobre tenencia responsable y el trabajo conjunto entre médicos veterinarios y organismos públicos para abordar la problemática.

Resumen Antecedentes: El síndrome de Down es la anomalía cromosómica más frecuente y se asocia con defectos cardiacos congénitos, elementos clínicos de una alta morbilidad y mortalidad infantil. Objetivo: Describir los desenlaces clínicos de los pacientes con síndrome de Down sometidos a cirugía e intervencionismo como tratamiento de las cardiopatías congénitas en esta institución. Material y métodos: Estudio retrospectivo que incluyó pacientes menores de 18 años con síndrome de Down y patología cardiaca asociada durante los últimos 10 años. Las variables estudiadas fueron: peso, talla, sexo, edad, tipo de cardiopatía, procedimiento correctivo, tiempo de estancia intrahospitalaria y en unidad de terapia intensiva, morbilidad y mortalidad. Resultados: 368 pacientes pediátricos fueron llevados a corrección quirúrgica o intervencionista, de los cuales 197 (54%) pertenecían al sexo femenino, la mediana de edad fue de 24 meses (rango intercuartílico [RIQ]: 14-48) en el grupo quirúrgico y de 36 meses (RIQ: 17-85) en el intervencionista. Las cardiopatías congénitas más frecuentes fueron: persistencia del conducto arterioso (31%), comunicación interventricular (28%), canal atrioventricular (CAV) (20%), comunicación interauricular (16%) y tetralogía de Fallot con el 4% respectivamente. La estancia hospitalaria fue de 9 días (RIQ: 7-15) en el grupo quirúrgico y de 3 días (RIQ: 2-5) en el hemodinámico. Las morbilidades fueron infección postoperatoria en 30 pacientes (14%) y en 19 pacientes (9%) bloqueo atrioventricular completo. La mortalidad global incluyendo tanto el quirúrgico como el intervencionista fue del 2%. Conclusiones: Los resultados terapéuticos, quirúrgicos e intervencionistas, en los niños con síndrome de Down y cardiopatías congénitas han mejorado en forma muy satisfactoria. Es de destacar la menor prevalencia del CAV en la población mexicana. Es indispensable realizar evaluación cardiológica a los niños con síndrome de Down y aquellos con cardiopatías congénitas llevarlos a corrección de manera oportuna para favorecer la sobrevida y calidad de vida.

Abstract Background: Down syndrome is the most common chromosomal abnormality, it is associated with a wide variety of congenital heart defects, being considered as clinical elements of high infant morbidity and mortality. Objective: To describe the clinical outcomes of patients with Down syndrome undergoing surgery and interventionism as treatment for congenital heart disease at this Institution. Material and methods: 368 patients with Down syndrome and associated congenital heart disease were diagnosed. The variables studied were weight, stature, sex, age, type of heart disease, corrective procedure, length of stay in the hospital and intensive care unit, morbidity and mortality. Results: 368 pediatric patients underwent surgical or interventional correction. Of which 197 (54%) were female, the median age was 24 months (interquartile range [IQR]: 14-48) in the surgical group and 36 months (IQR: 17-85) in the interventional group. The most frequent congenital heart diseases were: PCA (31%), IVC (28%), CAV (20%), ASD (16%) and tetralogy of Fallot with 4% respectively. Hospital stay was 9 days (IQR: 7-15) in the surgical group and 3 days (IQR: 2-5) in the hemodynamic group. Morbidities were postoperative infection in 30 patients (14%) and complete atrioventricular block in 19 patients (9%). Overall mortality including both surgical and interventional was 2%. Conclusions: The therapeutic, surgical and interventional results in children with Down syndrome and congenital heart disease have improved very satisfactorily. The lower prevalence of the atrioventricular canal in the Mexican population is noteworthy. It is essential to carry out a cardiological evaluation of children with Down syndrome and those with congenital heart disease to correct them in a timely manner to promote survival and quality of life.

Abstract: One of the main public health problems is child malnutrition, since it negatively affects the individual throughout his life, limits the development of society and makes it difficult to eradicate poverty. The first objective of this research is to apply data mining techniques for preprocessing, cleaning, reduction and transformation to a data lake that has allowed analyzing anemia in children under 5 years of age, the second objective is to apply Machine Learning algorithms to obtain the best model to predict anemia in children under 5 years of age. The data set was extracted from the open data platform of the government of Peru that corresponds to South Lima, North Lima, East Lima, Central Lima and rural Lima, which collected a total of 138,369 instances and 36 variables of which 30 are categorical and 6 numeric, being an unbalanced data set. In order to obtain the best predictor variables, the Anova F-test and Chi Square filters were used, and it was possible to reduce them to 10 variables, cases were also carried out without considering one of the filters and both filters.To find the best prediction model, the algorithms have been tested: decision tree, logistic regression, K nearest neighbors, random forest and naive bayes. As a result, we show that the best algorithm to predict anemia in children under 5 years of age is the Naive Bayes algorithm with the highest recall of 74%, precision of 43% and accuracy of 70%.

Resumen: Uno de los principales problemas de salud pública es la desnutrición infantil, ya que afecta negativamente al individuo a lo largo de su vida, limita el desarrollo de la sociedad y dificulta la erradicación de la pobreza. El objetivo de esta investigación es aplicar técnicas de minería de datos para el preprocesamiento, limpieza, reducción y transformación a un lago de datos que ha permitido analizar la anemia en niños menores de 5 años, asimismo, se ha aplicado algoritmos de Machine Learning para obtener el mejor modelo que permita predecir la anemia en niños menores de 5 años. El conjunto de datos fue extraído de la plataforma datos abiertos del gobierno del Perú que corresponde a Lima sur, Lima Norte, Lima Este, Lima Centro y Lima rural que se juntaron en total 138369 instancias y 36 variables, de la cuales 30 son categóricas y 6 numéricas, siendo un conjunto de datos desequilibrado. Para poder obtener las mejores variables predictoras se utilizó los filtros Anova F-test y Chi Cuadrado y se logró reducir a 10 variables, también se realizó casos sin considerar uno de los filtros y ambos filtros. Para buscar el mejor modelo de predicción se ha probado los algorítmicos: árbol de decisión, regresión logística, K vecinos más cercanos, bosque aleatorio y Naive bayes. Como resultado mostramos que el mejor algoritmo que permite predecir la anemia en niños menores de 5 años es el Naive Bayes con mayor recall de 74 %, precisión de 43% y exactitud del 70 %.

ABSTRACT Objective To show relationship among risk for eating disorders, suicidal ideation and family among female adolescents. Methods Descriptive cross-sectional study. Over 12 years, questionnaires were applied to 14,193 female adolescents enrolled in public schools in Suba locality in Bogotá, they were selected voluntarily. As explanatory variables, gender, age, stratum, functionality (using the family Apgar) and family structure (members with whom they live), suicidal ideation, mood, relationship with peers and self-esteem were investigated. The ORs were obtained. The Scoff questionnaire was used as a dependent variable. Results The mean age of the population was 13.9 years old. A prevalence of risk for eating disorders of 28.4% and of family dysfunction of 33% were found, severe family dysfunction increased the prevalence of eating disorders (OR 2,6, CI 95% 2.2-3.0) suicidal ideation (OR 3.5, CI 95% 3.0-4.0). Conclusions This research confirms the importance of the family in relation to the risk for eating disorders, as well as the relationship among suicidal ideation and distortion of body image. According to the findings, it is proposed to implement workshops that reduce the risk factors that cause disorders and strengthen the protective factors.

RESUMEN Objetivo Estimar la relación entre el riesgo de trastornos alimentarios, la familia y la ideación suicida en una población adolescente femenina. Métodos Estudio descriptivo, transversal. A lo largo de 12 años se aplicaron cuestionarios a 14 193 adolescentes femeninas escolarizadas de los colegios públicos de la localidad de Suba en Bogotá, seleccionadas voluntariamente. Como variables explicativas se indagaron el género, la edad, el estrato, la funcionalidad (usando el Apgar familiar), la estructura familiar (miembros con los que se convive), la ideación suicida, el estado de ánimo, la relación con los pares y la autoestima. Como variable dependiente se realizó el cuestionario Scoff. Se obtuvieron los OR de esta relación. Resultados La edad media de la población fue de 13,9 años. Se encontró una pre-valencia de riesgo de trastornos de la conducta alimentaria de 28,4% y de disfunción familiar de 33%. La disfunción familiar severa aumentó la prevalencia de trastornos de la conducta alimentaria (OR 2,6, IC 95% 2,2-3,0) y de ideación suicida (OR 3,5, IC 95% 3,0-4,0). Conclusiones Esta investigación confirma la importancia de la funcionalidad familiar en relación con el riesgo de trastornos de la conducta alimentaria, la ideación suicida y la distorsión de la imagen corporal. Con base en los hallazgos se propone implementar talleres que disminuyan los factores de riesgo causantes de los trastornos alimentarios y afiancen los factores protectores.

Resumen. Las plantaciones forestales comerciales contribuyen al incremento de la producción maderable en bosques con manejo forestal en el estado de Michoacán, México; sin embargo, no se considera el uso de ecuaciones que permitan predecir, de manera eficiente, la dinámica de crecimiento en diámetro, lo cual es imprescindible para la planeación y evaluación de labores silvícolas. El objetivo fue ajustar y comparar ecuaciones en diferencia algebraica (DA) para la elaboración de curvas de crecimiento e incremento en diámetro e índice de diámetro para plantaciones comerciales de Pinus pseudostrobus en Michoacán, México. La base de datos utilizada proviene de análisis troncales de 41 árboles y para la generación de las curvas de crecimiento, se consideró como índice de diámetro al diámetro medio que alcanzan las plantaciones a la edad de referencia de 20 años. Las ecuaciones de Korf, Levakovic ll, Monomolecular y Weibull presentaron alta precisión de acuerdo con los estadísticos de ajuste; pero la mayor precisión se obtuvo con la ecuación anamórfica de Korf, la cual generó curvas que describieron adecuadamente el patrón de crecimiento en diámetro y sugirió que el punto de crecimiento máximo sucede a los seis años. Las ecuaciones de índice de diámetro son herramientas que permiten describir de forma adecuada el patrón de crecimiento, además, son útiles para estimar el punto de crecimiento máximo; esta información servirá de apoyo para conducir a las plantaciones de P. pseudostrobus a mayor rendimiento maderable.

Abstract. Commercial forest plantations contribute to increase timber production in forests under management in the state of Michoacan, Mexico; however, the use of equations to efficiently predict the dynamics of diameter growth is not considered, which is essential to plan and evaluate forestry activities. The objective was to fit and compare equations in algebraic difference (ADA) for the elaboration of growth curves and increase in diameter and diameter index for Pinus pseudostrobus in commercial forest plantations in Michoacan, Mexico. The database used comes from stem analysis of 41 trees and for the elaboration of growth curves, the diameter index was considered as the average diameter that plantations reach at reference age of 20 years. The Korf, Levakovic II, Monomolecular and Weibull equations presented high precision according to the fit statistics; but the greatest precision was obtained with the Korf anamorphic equation, which generated curves that adequately described the diameter growth pattern and suggested that the maximum growth point occurs at six years. The diameter index equations are tools that allow adequately describing the growth pattern of the data, in addition, they are useful to estimate the point of maximum growth; this information will be helpful for supporting P. pseudostrobus plantations to lead a higher timber yield.

Abstract Objectives The present study aimed to evaluate the measurement invariance of a general measure of the perception of governmental responses to COVID-|19 (COVID-SCORE-10) in the general population of 13 Latin American countries. Methods A total of 5780 individuals from 13 Latin American and Caribbean countries selected by non-probabilistic snowball sampling participated. A confirmatory factor analysis was performed and the alignment method was used to evaluate invariance. Additionally, a graded response model was used for the assessment of item characteristics. Results The results indicate that there is approximate measurement invariance of the COVID-SCORE-10 among the participating countries. Furthermore, IRT results suggest that the COVID-SCORE-10 measures with good psychometric ability a broad spectrum of the construct assessed, especially around average levels. Comparison of COVID-SCORE-10 scores indicated that participants from Cuba, Uruguay and El Salvador had the most positive perceptions of government actions to address the pandemic. Thus, the underlying construct of perception of government actions was equivalent in all countries. Conclusion The results show the importance of initially establishing the fundamental measurement properties and MI before inferring the cross-cultural universality of the construct to be measured. Resumo Uma das novas iniciativas de águas e agricultura ecológica no Peru é incentivar a utilização de resíduos agrícolas, porque a baixa produção agrícola é uma ameaça à segurança alimentar no país. O objetivo desta pesquisa foi avaliar o efeito dos resíduos da colheita na produção de basidiocarpos do fungo Pleurotus ostreatus, em Acobamba-Huancavelica. O ensaio teve um delineamento inteiramente casualizado, e os tratamentos incluíram T1, restolho de cevada; T2, soqueiras de trigo; T3, restolho de ervilha; T4, restolho de fava; e T5, restolho de quinoa. A pesquisa foi de natureza quantitativa, assumindo a forma de experimento com um nível de design aplicado e explicativo. Os dados registrados foram tabulados e analisados com análise de variância, bem como teste de Tukey (α:0,05), para o qual foi utilizado o software estatístico Infostat. Os resultados são apresentados em tabelas e gráficos para melhor interpretação. Como principais resultados, obteve-se que o tempo (colonização), diâmetro (caule, píleo), comprimento (caule) e peso (basidiocarpos) apresentam diferenças estatísticas entre os tratamentos, mostrando melhora significativa em todos os parâmetros. Apesar da diferença numérica, o teste de comparação de médias de Tukey revelou que não houve diferença estatisticamente significativa entre as médias para a variável tempo de colonização do fungo, sugerindo que o tratamento T5 em que usou o substrato quinoa, apresentou a maior média. O tratamento T4, no qual foram usadas restolhos de fava, apresentou a média mais baixa. Abstract One of the new waters, and environmentally friendly agriculture initiatives in Peru is to encourage the utilization of agricultural waste, because low agricultural output is a threat to food security there. The purpose of this research was to evaluate the effect of harvest residues on the basidiocarp production of the fungus Pleurotus Ostreatus, in Acobamba-Huancavelica. The trial had a completely randomized design, and the treatments included T1, barley stubbles; T2, wheat stubbles; T3, pea stubbles; T4, broad bean stubbles; and T5, quinoa stubbles. The research was quantitative in nature, taking the form of an experiment with an applied, explanatory level of design. The recorded data was tabulated and analyzed with analysis of variance, as well as Tukey's test (α:0.05), for which the statistical software Infostat was used. The results are presented in tables and graphs for a better interpretation. As main results, it was obtained that the time (colonization), diameter (stem, pileus), length (stem) and weight (basidiocarps), present statistical differences between treatments showing significant enhancement in all parameters. Despite a numerical difference, a Tukey average comparison test revealed that there was no statistically significant difference between the averages for the variable time for fungus colonisation, suggesting that the treatment T5 in which quinoa substrate showed the greatest average. Treatment T4 in which broad bean stubbles were used gave the most low-average. ABSTRACT The ecological condition is a parameter that allows us to diagnose the structure and functionality of rivers. The Margaritas River basin, located in the municipality of Pijijiapan, Chiapas, Mexico, is an important source of water recharge and supply. In order to evaluate the ecological condition present at three altitudinal gradients of the Margaritas River, a visual evaluation of the physical habitat was performed following Barbour’s protocol and some physical-chemical parameters were determined (depth, dissolved oxygen, electrical conductivity, temperature, salinity and hydrogen potential). Ammonium, nitrite, nitrate and phosphate ions were also measured at the three study sites. Three replicates were carried out and an analysis of variance and comparison of means by Tukey-kramer (p ≥ 0.05) was applied. The results showed a suboptimal (Margaritas 1 and 2 sites) and marginal (Río Ramón site) habitat condition. Physicochemical parameters presented significant differences for site-specific electrical conductivity (F2,6 = 68.77 p ≤ 0.0001), electrical conductivity at 25 ºC (F2,6 = 59.67 p = 0.0001) and water temperature (F2,6 = 160.66, p ≤ 0.0001), where the highest values correspond to site Margaritas 2. The amount of nitrates (6.83 ± 0.55 mg/L) and nitrites (3.67 ± 1.15 mg/L) at site Margaritas 2 were the highest values obtained. Finally, phosphate ions presented their highest values at the Río Ramón site (0.12 ± 0.05 mg/L). The results obtained provide a current perspective on the state and condition of the Margaritas River, and it is necessary to implement appropriate management strategies for each study area.

RESUMEN La condición ecológica es un parámetro que permite diagnosticar la estructura y funcionalidad de los ríos. La cuenca del Río Margaritas, localizada en el municipio de Pijijiapan, Chiapas, México es una fuente importante de recarga y provisión hídrica. Con el objetivo de evaluar la condición ecológica presente en un gradiente altitudinal del Río Margaritas, se realizó la evaluación visual del hábitat físico a través del protocolo de Barbour y se determinaron los parámetros fisicoquímicos (profundidad, oxígeno disuelto, conductividad eléctrica, temperatura, salinidad y potencial de Hidrógeno). También se cuantificaron los iones de amonio, nitritos, nitratos y fosfatos en tres sitios de estudio. Se realizaron tres repeticiones y se aplicó un análisis de varianza y comparación de medias por Tukey-kramer (p ≥ 0.05). Los resultados mostraron una condición de hábitat sub óptima (sitios Margaritas 1 y 2) y marginal (sitio Río Ramón). Los parámetros fisicoquímicos presentaron diferencias significativas para la conductividad eléctrica específica en el sitio (F2,6 = 68.77 p ≤ 0.0001), conductividad eléctrica a 25 ºC (F2,6 = 59.67 p = 0.0001) y temperatura del agua (F2,6 = 160.66, p ≤ 0.0001), donde los valores más altos fueron los del sitio Margaritas 2. La concentración de nitratos (6.83 ± 0.55 mg/L) y nitritos (3.67 ± 1.15 mg/L) obtenidos en el sitio Margaritas 2 fueron los valores más altos. Finalmente, los iones de fosfato presentaron los valores más altos en el sitio Río Ramón (0.12 ± 0.05 mg/L). Los resultados obtenidos brindan una perspectiva actual sobre el estado y condición del Río Margaritas, siendo necesario implementar estrategias de gestión propicias para cada zona de estudio.

ABSTRACT The present work is an effort to generate information related to the characteristics of coffee growers in Puebla state, the climatic conditions experienced, and activities that they already carry out to confront them. Interviews were applied in the macroregions of the state where coffee is produced, a descriptive statistic was generated and general recommendations were designed likely to be applied from a force-field analysis. 84 % of the producers are coffee growers by inheritance. Arabica and Costa Rica, followed by Robusta and Marsellesa are the most used varieties. 46 % of producers report the detrimental effects of extreme weather events. To counter the effects of climate change different techniques are used such as live barriers, mowing, and cleaning, among others. The most affected region by climate effects is the Sierra Nororiental. Sierra Norte presents a higher number of strategies to deal with it, as well as innovation activities different from those applied in the rest of the regions. All the macroregions have begun to replace varieties with those that affect the traditional production model. Finally, 20 synergistic actions at the producer, farm, and landscape levels are recommended to strengthen the coffee growing in Puebla.

RESUMEN El trabajo buscó generar información de las características de los caficultores del Estado de Puebla, las afecciones climáticas experimentadas y las actividades que llevan a cabo para enfrentarlas. Para ello se aplicaron entrevistas en las macrorregiones cafetaleras de la entidad, se generó estadística descriptiva y se propusieron recomendaciones generales susceptibles de ser aplicadas a partir de un análisis de campo de fuerzas. El 84% de los entrevistados son cafetaleros por herencia. Las variedades más empleadas son Arábiga y Costa Rica. La sequía es la afectación climática más referida. El 46% de los productores reporta impactos por fenómenos meteorológicos extremos. Para contrarrestar los efectos del cambio climático se emplean acciones con alcances diversos como barreras vivas, chapeo y limpieza. La macrorregión con mayores afectaciones es la Sierra Nororiental. La Sierra Norte presenta el número más elevado de estrategias de adaptación, así como actividades de innovación diferentes a las utilizadas en las otras zonas de estudio. Todas las macrorregiones han sustituido variedades con otras que impactan el modelo productivo tradicional. Se recomiendan 20 acciones sinérgicas a nivel de productor, finca y paisaje para fortalecer la caficultura en Puebla.

ABSTRACT Starch, a natural component of sugarcane juice, causes losses and operational problems in the sugar industry, due to the increase in juice viscosity, which inhibits crystallization and increases sucrose loss. This research aimed to optimize the enzymatic hydrolysis process of starch by the action of Bacillus licheniformis alpha-amylase. Enzyme concentration and reaction time were optimized for maximizing maltose concentration, determined as reducing sugar by the Dinitrosalicylic Acid method; starch hydrolysis percentage and productivity, which were analyzed independently and together by a Rotational Compound Central Design and Response Surface Methodology. The alpha-amylase enzyme was characterized, obtaining an optimum temperature of 90 °C and optimum pH of 7, determining a linearity range for the 1:100 dilution of 20 minutes, an enzymatic activity of 28.35 IU/mg, and the kinetic constants Km of 5.82 g/L and Vmax of 0.30 g/L*min. Finally, the experimental design obtained the optimal environmental conditions of enzyme concentration of 817 ppm and reaction time of 17 minutes at a temperature of 90 °C. From the validation of the optimal conditions for starch hydrolysis in sugarcane juice, the following were obtained: maltose concentration 0.380 g/L, percentage of hydrolysis 73.09 %, and productivity 1.341 g/L*h, which corresponded to variations greater than the calculated values of 16%, 11.3%, and 18%, respectively.

RESUMEN El almidón, componente natural del jugo de caña de azúcar, es causante de pérdidas y problemas operacionales en la industria azucarera, debido al incremento en la viscosidad en el jugo, que inhibe la cristalización e incrementa la pérdida de sacarosa. El objetivo de esta investigación fue optimizar el proceso de hidrólisis enzimática del almidón por acción de la alfa amilasa de Bacillus licheniformis. Se optimizaron la concentración de enzima y el tiempo de reacción, con respecto a la maximización de la concentración de maltosa, determinado como azúcar reductor por el método del Ácido Dinitrosalicílico; el porcentaje de hidrolisis del almidón y la productividad, las cuales fueron analizadas independientemente y en conjunto por un Diseño Central Compuesto Rotacional y la Metodología de Superficie de Respuesta. Se caracterizó la enzima alfa-amilasa obteniéndose una temperatura optima de 90 °C y pH óptimo de 7, determinándose un rango de linealidad para la dilución 1:100 de 20 minutos, una actividad enzimática de 28.35 UI/mg y las constantes cinéticas Km de 5.82 g/L y Vmax de 0.30 g/L*min. Finalmente, del diseño experimental se obtuvieron las condiciones ambientales óptimas de concentración de enzima de 817 ppm y tiempo de reacción de 17 minutos a una temperatura de 90 °C. De la validación de las condiciones óptimas de hidrolisis del almidón en el jugo de caña de azúcar, se obtuvieron: concentración de maltosa 0.380 g/L, porcentaje de hidrolisis 73.09 % y la productividad 1.341 g/L*h, que correspondieron a variaciones mayores que los valores calculados, en 16%, 11.3% y 18% respectivamente.

ABSTRACT Dextran is a homopolysaccharide of glucose, formed in sugarcane juice during post-harvest and is responsible for the low yields of evaporation and crystallization in the sugar industry. The enzymatic saccharification of dextran has been noted for its satisfactory yields; However, this enzymatic process requires an adequate selection of the enzyme and its concentration, as well as the control of the environmental conditions of the biocatalysis. The objective of the present investigation was to optimize the process of enzymatic hydrolysis of dextran from sugarcane juice using the response surface methodology. A central composite rotational design with three independent factors of five levels was used: enzyme concentration, reaction time and temperature, and as a response variable: reducing dextran concentration. The commercial enzyme Dextranfree Xe was used which was kinetically characterized. The experiment consisted of two stages, first a simulated cane juice medium was used to determine the optimal conditions and these were then applied to the real sugar cane juice. The optimal environmental conditions for dextran hydrolysis in the simulated cane juice turned out to be: enzyme concentration 224 ppm, reaction time 32 minutes and reaction temperature 36 °C, to achieve 70 % dextran reduction. Finally, the optimized conditions were validated by applying them to the sugarcane juice, obtaining a reduction of 69.2 % in dextran concentration; said process being effective for its application in the industry.

RESUMEN El dextrano es un homopolisacárido de glucosa, formado en el jugo de caña de azúcar durante la postcosecha y es responsable de los bajos rendimientos de la evaporación y cristalización en la industria azucarera. La sacarificación enzimática del dextrano se ha destacado por sus rendimientos satisfactorios; sin embargo, dicho proceso enzimático requiere de una adecuada selección de la enzima y su concentración, así como el control de las condiciones ambientales de la biocatálisis. El objetivo de la presente investigación fue optimizar el proceso de hidrólisis enzimática de dextrano del jugo de caña de azúcar mediante la metodología de superficie de respuesta. Se utilizó un diseño central compuesto rotacional con tres factores independientes de cinco niveles: concentración de enzima, tiempo y temperatura de reacción y como variable respuesta: la reducción de la concentración de dextrano. Se utilizó la enzima comercial Dextranfree Xe la cual fue caracterizada cinéticamente. El experimento consistió en dos etapas, primero se utilizó un medio simulado de jugo de caña para determinar las condiciones óptimas y éstas aplicarlas después al jugo real de caña de azúcar. Las condiciones ambientales óptimas de hidrolisis del dextrano en el simulado de jugo de caña resultaron ser: concentración de enzima 224 ppm, tiempo de reacción 32 minutos y temperatura de reacción 36 °C, para alcanzar un 70 % de reducción de dextrano. Finalmente, las condiciones optimizadas fueron validadas aplicándolas al jugo de caña de azúcar, obteniéndose una reducción del 69.2 % de concentración de dextrano; siendo dicho proceso efectivo para su aplicación en la industria.
