RESUMO: O presente trabalho teve por objetivo avaliar por meio de testes físicos e fisiológicos a qualidade das sementes de uma variedade crioula de feijão-fava em diferentes embalagens. (1 -Embalagem cartonada mista composta por camadas de plástico, papel cartão e folha de alumínio impermeável- CN; 2- garrafa plástica semipermeável - PET;3- Pote plástico rígido impermeável - PEAD; 4- pote de vidro transparente quebrável impermeável - VIDRO; 5- saco plástico flexível impermeável PEBD aluminizado; 6- saco de papel permeável) e períodos de armazenamento de (90, 180, 270 e 360 dias), visando garantir a conservação da qualidade delas em casas e bancos de sementes. A metodologia utilizada foi a preconizada pelas Regras de Análise de Sementes (RAS - Brasil, 2009) e por descritores mínimos para Phaseolus lunatus L. Os dados foram submetidos a análise de variância pelo teste F ao nível de 5 %, afim de verificar a presença de interação significativa e dos efeitos simples de cada tratamento. Foi realizado o teste de comparação múltipla das médias pelos testes Tukey ao nível de 5 % de significância entre os tratamentos comuns. Para comparar as médias da testemunha com os tratamentos comuns recorreu-se ao teste Dunnett ao nível de 5 % de significância. Para estudar o efeito do armazenamento sobre as variáveis avaliadas foi feita a análise de regressão. Todas as análises foram feitas com o auxílio do R por meio de programação. Pelos resultados, pode-se concluir que o armazenamento de sementes de feijão-fava: é viável em pequenas propriedades rurais em embalagem impermeável; saco de polietileno aluminizada. A germinação e o vigor das sementes analisadas diminuíram ao longo do período de armazenamento, independentemente do tipo de embalagem utilizada. Não é recomendado armazenar sementes de feijão-fava em embalagens permeáveis de papel por apresentaram os menores índices de qualidade (germinação e vigor) ao final do período de armazenamento. ABSTRACT: The present study evaluated, through physical and physiological tests, the seed quality of a landrace fava bean variety in different packaging materials and storage periods, aiming to guarantee the conservation of their quality in seed banks and facilities. The methodology used was the one recommended by the Rules for Seed Analysis (RAS - Brasil, 2009) and minimum descriptors for Phaseolus lunatus L. The data were subjected to analysis of variance by the F-test at 5% signififance to verify the presence of significant interactions and the individual effects of each treatment. The test of multiple comparison of means was performed by the Tukey test at 5% significance between common treatments. The Dunnett test was used at 5% significance to compare the control means with the means of the treatments. Regression analysis was performed to study the effect of storage on the variables evaluated. All analyses were performed using the R software. From the results, it can be concluded that the storage of fava bean seeds is viable in small rural properties in impermeable packaging materials and aluminized polyethylene bags. The germination and vigor of the seeds analyzed in this study decreased throughout the storage period regardless of the type of packaging used. It is not recommended to store fava bean seeds in permeable paper packaging as they have the lowest quality indices (germination and vigor) at the end of the storage period. RESUMO A produção de arroz de terras altas está concentrada em uma vasta área do Brasil central. Devido à variabilidade ambiental na região, o desempenho das cultivares varia substancialmente. Objetivou-se determinar as principais variáveis climáticas que afetam a produtividade do arroz de terras altas na região central do Brasil, considerando-se quatro estados: Goiás, Mato Grosso, Tocantins e Rondônia. Utilizou-se um conjunto de dados composto por 177 ensaios, com variedades adaptadas e comumente cultivadas de arroz de terras altas, derivadas do conjunto de dados de melhoramento de arroz da Embrapa. ABSTRACT The upland rice production is primarily concentrated in a vast area of central Brazil. Given the region’s environmental variability, the performance of rice cultivars can differ signifcantly. This study aimed to identify the key climate factors infuencing the upland rice yield in the central region of Brazil, encompassing four states: Goiás, Mato Grosso, Tocantins and Rondônia. A dataset comprising 177 trials involving commonly cultivated and well-adapted upland rice varieties, derived from the Embrapa’s rice breeding dataset, was analyzed. These trials were conducted in randomized blocks, with three replications, from 1996 to 2018. The generalized additive model approach was employed to adjust the non-linear relationships between environmental factors and grain yield, revealing four climatic variables: maximum air temperature throughout the growth cycle, minimum air temperature at panicle initiation, degree-days from emergence to panicle initiation and degree-days throughout the growth cycle. Resumo: Ferramentas rápidas de fenotipagem são cruciais para a seleção de progênies em programas de melhoramento genético. Esta pesquisa foi conduzida com o objetivo de avaliar a possibilidade de uso da simulação de estresse em laboratório como forma de distinguir fenótipos de milho quanto à tolerância à seca. Foram conduzidos inicialmente dois experimentos: um em que avaliou-se a emergência de plântulas e seu crescimento em areia sob diferentes capacidades de campo; e um segundo com o uso de solução de PEG a -0.6 Mpa para umedecer o papel de germinação. Estes experimentos foram usados para distinguir características de duas linhagens contrastantes quanto à tolerância à seca: linhagem 57 - sensível e 91 - tolerante. No próximo experimento, foram produzidas sementes hibridas a partir do cruzamento de ambas as linhagens nas gerações F1; F2 e F2:3 as quais foram colocadas para germinar em papel umedecido com solução de PEG a -0.6 MPa com posterior avaliação do crescimento das sementes através da análise de imagens com o sistema GroundEye®. ABSTRACT: Faster phenotyping tools are crucial for field progeny selection. We conducted research comparing two water deficit simulation methods on contrasting cultivars for water deficit tolerance. In a first step, we conducted two experiments: one for seed germination in sand at 10% and 70% water retention capacity, being analyzed seedling emergence and growth; other for seed germination in stress simulation by moistening the germination paper with PEG solution at -0.6 MPa, being analyzed seed germination. These experiments were used to distinguish characteristics of two maize lineages with different response to drought, being 57 - sensitive and 91 - tolerant. After that, we produced hybrid progenies from these lines at generations F1, F2, and F2:3 and applied the stress simulation by moistening the germination paper with -0.6 MPa of PEG solution. The seedling size was analyzed trough image analysis by the GroundEye® system. We could distinguish both lines and its hybrids through the stress simulation and image analysis. The results indicate that maize cultivars can be phenotyped for water deficit tolerance either 5 days postsowing through stress simulation or via image analysis of root length from seedlings germinated under -0.6 MPa. This method provides faster, more accurate, and more cost-effective methods for assessing water deficit tolerance in maize cultivars. ABSTRACT The objective was to evaluate the effect of intensifying dairy systems on the uptake and return of nutrients in pastures. The experiment was conducted using four milk production systems on Mombasa grass pastures in the humid tropics, during the rainy season in 2009. This was a 2 x 2 factorial (two nitrogen fertilization levels and concentrate supplement or not for grazing animals) completely randomized design with four replications (paddocks). Nitrogen levels corresponded to 400 and 800 kg. ha-1.year-1, and supplementation was given to only two out of four groups of animals with milk yield above 11 L. day-1. ABSTRACT Diversifying pastures with forage legumes may reduce nitrogen fertilization due to biological N fixation. This study aimed to quantify forage accumulation rate and macronutrients extraction and to identify the best intercropping combination between butterfly pea (Clitoria ternatea) – a legume, and three warm-season forage grasses of different growth habits (signalgrass – Urochloa decumbunes, Guinea grass - Mega thyrsus maximus, and bermudagrass Cynodon dactylon). Treatments consisted of mixes of perennial herbaceous legume, butterfly pea (twining stem), with grasses, signalgrass (decumbent stem) and Guinea grass (erect stem), and bermudagrass (stoloniferous/rhizomatous). The experiment was arranged in a randomized complete block design, with three treatments and three replications. There was interaction between the intercropping combinations and cutting cycles for forage accumulation rate (FAR) and N, P, K, Ca, Mg, and S uptake. Com o objetivo de analisar o potencial biocontrole de larvas de A. grandis grandis por M. arachidis, foi realizado um estudo de capacidade predatória utilizando um modelo de resposta funcional. Larvas de A. grandis grandis foram expostas ao predador nas densidades: 1, 2, 4, 6 e 8 larvas (= presa/predador/placa de Petri), com 30 repetições em cada densidade. O contato entre o predador e a presa ocorreu durante 24 horas; após esse período, o nível de predação de M. arachidis foi avaliado com base na proporção de larvas predadas. Abstract Anthonomus grandis grandis (Coleoptera: Curculionidae) is a pest with a large potential for destruction in cotton crops, causing damage to the cotton reproductive structures. The earwig Marava arachidis (Dermaptera: Labiidae), is an important reference as a predator in several crops and being easy to rear in the laboratory. To analyze the potential biocontrol of M. arachidis of A. grandis grandis larvae, a study of predatory capacity was conducted using a functional response model. A. grandis grandis larvae were exposed to the predator at densities 1, 2, 4, 6, and 8 larvae (= prey/predator / Petri dish), with 30 replications at each density. Contact between the predator and the prey occurred for 24 hours; after this period, the level of predation of M. arachidis was assessed based on the proportion of preyed larvae. The linear logistic regression coefficient was used with a beta-binomial generalized linear model to determine the functional response. The negative signal of the linear coefficient and the goodness-of-fit tests revealed a quadratic or type II functional response, with the number of prey varying from 1.00 larva (density of 1 larva/predator) to 6.50 larvae (density of 8 larvae/predator). Abstract This study aimed to assess the combined antibacterial effect of lectins and antibiotics on S. aureus ATCC 25923, multidrug-resistant E. coli ATCC 11303 and S. aureus ATCC 700698. Using the checkerboard assay, we evaluated the antibacterial effects of eight lectins isolated from marine organisms combined with two common antibiotics, oxacillin and tetracycline, on three virulent bacterial strains. Initially, none of the tested lectins exhibited antibacterial effects when used individually. However, when combined with antibiotics, the lectins exhibited synergistic, additive, antagonistic, or no interaction. Overall, the tested lectins alone had no effect on the efficacy of oxacillin. On the other hand, different lectins in combination with tetracycline potentiated its antimicrobial effect. Lectins from red algae of the Bryothamnium genus, for example, exhibited the most significant synergistic effects, reducing the minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) of tetracycline by up to 16 times. RESUMO Na experimentação agrícola, a utilização do tamanho ótimo de parcela é uma estratégia importante, para aumentar a precisão experimental, e trabalhos desta natureza são escassos para a cultura do grão-de-bico, leguminosa que vem conquistando o mercado e consumidores em todo o mundo. Assim, o objetivo deste trabalho foi determinar o tamanho ótimo de parcela, para avaliar experimentos com a cultura do grão-de-bico, em cenários formados por combinações de números de tratamentos, números de repetições e níveis de precisão. Dois experimentos em branco foram realizados, compostos por oito linhas de cultivo, de 7 m de comprimento, espaçadas em 50 cm entre linhas e 10 cm entre plantas; foram avaliadas as seis linhas centrais, totalizando 60 plantas por linha de cultivo. ABSTRACT In agricultural experimentation, use of the optimum plot size is an important way of increasing experimental precision; however, studies of this type are scarce for the chickpea, a legume that has been conquering both the market and consumers throughout the world. The aim of this study, therefore, was to determine the optimum plot size for evaluating experiments with the chickpea, in scenarios comprising combinations of the number of treatments, number of replications and levels of precision. Two blank experiments were carried out, comprising eight crop rows, 7 m in length, at a spacing of 50 cm between rows and 10 cm between plants; the six central rows were evaluated, giving a total of 60 plants per row. Resumo O objetivo deste estudo foi realizar a prospecção fitoquímica e avaliar a atividade larvicida de extratos de látex de Himatanthus drasticus contra A. aegypti. Os extratos foram obtidos por maceração de 5 g de látex em pó concentrado separadamente em 100 mL dos solventes metanol, acetato de etila e hexano. As concentrações de 100, 200, 300, 400 e 500 ppm de cada extrato foram testadas em triplicata com uma solução de piriproxifeno como controle positivo e água destilada e dimetilsulfóxido como controle negativo. A prospecção fitoquímica do extrato metanólico mostrou a presença de compostos fenólicos, como antocianinas, antocianidinas, catequinas, chalconas, auronas, leucoantocianidinas e taninos condensados. A bioatividade inseticida foi mais significativa para o extrato metanólico. As concentrações letais (CL) do extrato metanólico de 50 e 90% foram 190,76 e 464,74 ppm, respectivamente. Após 48 horas de exposição, os extratos utilizando metanol, acetato de etila e hexano em suas maiores concentrações (500 ppm) causaram mortalidade larval de 100, 73,33 e 66,67%, respectivamente. Abstract The aim of this study was to carry out phytochemical prospecting and evaluate the larvicidal activity of Himatanthus drasticus latex extracts against Aedes aegypti. The extracts were obtained by maceration from 5 g of latex powder concentrated separately in 100 mL of methanol, ethyl acetate, and hexane solvents. The concentrations of 100, 200, 300, 400, and 500 ppm of each extract were tested in triplicate with a solution of pyriproxyfen as the positive control and distilled water and dimethylsulfoxide as the negative control. The phytochemical prospection of the methanolic extract showed the presence of phenolic compounds, such as anthocyanins, anthocyanidins, catechins, chalcones, aurones, leucoanthocyanidins, and condensed tannins. The insecticidal bioactivity was most significant for the methanolic extract. The methanolic extract lethal concentrations (LC) of 50 and 90% were 190.76 and 464.74 ppm, respectively. Resumo Esse estudo avaliou a atividade inseticida dos extratos brutos das sementes de Enterolobium contortisiliquum (Vell.) sobre ovos e larvas do A. aegypti, verificou também o perfil fitoquímico e a presença de lectinas no extrato. A solução salina de NaCl 0,15 M foi utilizada como substância extratora. Para os ensaios com ovos e larvas, o extrato bruto foi utilizado na forma crua (RCE) e fervida a 100º C por 5 min (BCE). Foram testadas as concentrações de 4,68; 9,37; 18,75; 28,13; 37,13 e 46,89 mg/mL, tendo a água destilada como controle negativo. Os ensaios foram realizados em triplicada. Os resultados foram submetidos à análise de variância, Teste de Tukey e análise Log-Probit para determinar CL50 e 90. O BCE apresentou melhores resultados sobre os ovos do que o RCE, conseguindo impedir a eclosão das larvas de 81,66% ± 10,40 dos ovos tratados, na concentração de 46,89 mg/mL. As respectivas CL50 e 90, foram definidas em 35,95 e 52,67 mg/mL, respectivamente. Nos testes com larvas, as concentrações de 46,89 e 37,13 mg/mL, para RCE e BCE, causaram 100% de mortalidade em 24 horas de exposição. A mortalidade larval nas demais concentrações aumentou com o tempo de exposição estendendo-se para 48 h. RCE, com 48 h de exposição é o extrato mais promissor sobre as larvas (E = 72,77%, CL90 = 10,86 mg/mL). Em RCE, a presença de lectinas e os metabólitos secundários: flavonoides, xantonas e fenóis, foram detectadas. Abstract This study evaluated the insecticidal activity of crude extracts from Enterolobium contortisiliquum (Vell.) seeds on eggs and larvae of A. aegypti, and also verified the phytochemical profile and the presence of lectins in the extract. The 0.15 M NaCl saline solution was used as the extracting substance. For tests with eggs and larvae, the crude extract was used in its raw form (RCE) and boiled at 100º C for 5 min (BCE). Concentrations of 4.68; 9.37; 18.75; 28.13; 37.13 and 46.89 mg/mL, with distilled water as a negative control. Assays were performed in triplicate. The results were subjected to analysis of variance, Tukey's test and Log-Probit analysis to determine LC50 and LC90. BCE showed better results on eggs than RCE, managing to prevent the hatching of larvae in 81.66% ± 10.40 of treated eggs, at a concentration of 46.89 mg/mL. The LC50 and LC90 were set at 35.95 and 52.67 mg/mL, respectively. In tests with larvae, concentrations of 46.89 and 37.13 mg/mL, for RCE and BCE, caused 100% mortality in 24 hours of exposure. Larval mortality at the other concentrations increased with exposure time extending to 48 h. RCE, at 48 h exposure is the most promising extract on larvae (E = 72.77%, LC90 = 10.86 mg/mL). In RCE, the presence of lectins and secondary metabolites: flavonoids, xanthones and phenols, were detected. Resumo: O conhecimento da variabilidade genética e das variáveis para avaliação de linhagens de feijoeiro para a característica de qualidade fisiológica de sementes, é importante para a seleção de genótipos de feijão promissores, para esta característica, em programas de melhoramento. Por meio da análise multivariada, objetivou-se neste estudo, avaliar a eficiência de testes físicos e fisiológicos para estudos de variabilidade genética em sementes de linhagens de feijão comum. Foram avaliadas vinte linhagens de feijão comum quanto à massa de mil sementes, primeira contagem, germinação, tetrazólio, condutividade elétrica, envelhecimento acelerado, emergência em campo e desempenho de plântulas. Os dados experimentais foram submetidos à análise de variância, parâmetros genéticos e a análise multivariada de componentes principais. Verificou-se a existência de variabilidade genética entre as linhagens de feijão e a identificação de dois grupos de linhagens com desempenho fisiológico superior de acordo com os testes de germinação e de vigor de sementes. Abstract: Knowledge of the genetic variability and of the variables for evaluating common bean lines for the physiological seed quality trait is important for the selection of promising common bean genotypes for this trait in breeding programs. Through multivariate analysis, the objective of this study was to evaluate the efficiency of physical and physiological tests for studies of genetic variability in seeds of common bean lines. Twenty lines of common bean were evaluated for thousand-seed weight, first count, germination, tetrazolium, electrical conductivity, accelerated aging, field emergence and seedling performance. The experimental data were subjected to analysis of variance, analysis of genetic parameters and multivariate analysis of principal components. Genetic variability was observed among the common bean lines, and two groups of lines with superior physiological performance according to the germination and seed vigor tests were identified. ABSTRACT Growth analysis (GA) is used to quantify plant development based on morphophysiological changes. GA is a practical tool to evaluate nursery techniques to make them more efficient. The objective of this essay was to quantity measure morphophysiological growth variables of Eucalyptus grandis x Eucalyptus urophylla and Hymenaea courbaril (jatoba) container seedlings to characterize growth stages. The essay was conducted in a shade house located in the western state of Paraná. GA analyses were performed at 10-day intervals on seedlings of both species. When evaluating Hymenaea courbaril seedlings results indicated increased values of height, diameter, root and shoot dry biomass up to 130 days after emergence (DAE). Seedling growth stage-based GA were 70, 100 and 130 DAE for the Eucalyptus hybrid and 50, 80, and 110 DAE for jatoba which presented accelerated, intermediate and reduced seedling growth.

Resumo Os óleos essenciais do caule e da folha de Croton doctoris foram analisados por cromatografia gasosa (GC) e espectrometria de massa (GC-MS) resultando em 22 compostos identificados. Os efeitos dos óleos essenciais na germinação, crescimento de raízes e parte aérea, teor total de clorofila, respiração radicular, atividade de peroxidase, catalase e superóxido de dimetase e índice mitótico foram determinados em alface e cebola. Atividade antioxidante, antimicrobiana e citotóxica também foram investigadas. Os resultados revelaram que o óleo do caule é constituído por 15 compostos, dos quais os principais são o óxido de cariofileno (24,5%) e E-cariofileno (13,3%). O óleo foliar apresentou E-cariofileno (39,6%) seguido de α-humuleno (13,2%) como compostos majoritários. Os óleos inibiram a germinação e o crescimento das plântulas de alface e cebola e reduziram o conteúdo de clorofila, a respiração radicular e a divisão celular. Eles também causaram estresse oxidativo, indicado pelo aumento da atividade das enzimas antioxidantes avaliadas. Esses processos fisiológicos anormais contribuem para a inibição do crescimento das plantas. Os efeitos fitotóxicos mais pronunciados foram observados no óleo do caule. Nos testes de citotoxicidade observou-se que o óleo das folhas foi mais ativo, resultante da presença de sesquiterpenos biologicamente ativos que atuam inibindo o crescimento das células cancerígenas.

Abstract Essential oils from the stems and leaves of Croton doctoris were analyzed by gas chromatography and mass spectrometry, resulting in 22 identified compounds. The effects of these essential oils on the germination, root and shoot growth, total chlorophyll content, potential root respiration, peroxidase activity, catalase, superoxide dismutase, and mitotic index in lettuce and onion were determined. Antioxidant, antimicrobial, and cytotoxic activity were also investigated. The results revealed that the stem oil consisted of 15 compounds, of which caryophyllene oxide (24.5%) and E-caryophyllene (13.3%) were the major constituents. The leaf oil contained E-caryophyllene (39.6%) and α-humulene (13.2%) as major compounds. The oils inhibited the germination and growth of lettuce and onion seedlings and reduced chlorophyll content, root respiration, and cell division. They also caused oxidative stress, indicated by the increased activity of the evaluated antioxidant enzymes. These abnormal physiological processes contributed to the inhibition of plant growth. The most pronounced phytotoxic effects were observed in the stem oil. The cytotoxicity tests indicated that leaf oil was more active than stem oil, resulting from the presence of biologically active sesquiterpenes that inhibit the growth of cancer cells.

RESUMO O tempo de presa dos cimentos dentários são um parâmetro clínico importante, pois estima o tempo disponível para a realização do tratamento pós preparação do cimento, que não pode ser longo ou curto. Atualmente, esse parâmetro pode ser determinado usando as normas ISO 6876/2001 e ADA 57/2000. Essas técnicas utilizam a agulha de Gilmore e realizam apenas uma análise superficial para determinar o tempo de pega, não sendo possível indicar se o cimento secou completamente. O objetivo deste trabalho foi determinar o tempo de pega utilizando o método da cavidade ressonante de cimentos à base de Hidroxiapatita (Hap) e galactomanana (Gal) extraídos de sementes de Adenanthera pavonina L. Foram preparados dois compostos: HAG (75% HAp e 25% Gal em peso como fase sólida e 0,30 mL de água destilada como fase líquida) e HAGJET (75% Hap, 2% em peso de pó de Gal com 0,10 mL de catalisador comercial JET (metacrilato de metil e dimetil-p-toluidina) e 0,20 mL de água destilada). A fase sólida em cada material foi dissolvido no líquido correspondente para cada composto formado. A inserção dos cimentos HAG e HAGJET gerou uma perturbação no campo elétrico devido à presença de água livre na amostra, onde esta perturbação diminui à medida que o cimento endurece devido à a evaporação dessa água livre. De acordo com os resultados, o cimento HAG teve o maior tempo de pega devido à ausência do ativador químico na sua preparação, enquanto o cimento HAGJET, que teve ativador em seu processamento, apresentou tempo de pega menor em ambas as técnicas.

ABSTRACT The setting time of dental cements is an important clinical parameter, as it estimates the time available to carry out the post-cement treatment, which cannot be long or short. Currently, this parameter can be determined using the ISO 6876/2001 and ADA 57/2000 standards. These techniques use the Gilmore needle and perform only a superficial analysis to determine the setting time, and it is not possible to indicate whether the cement has completely dried. The objective of this work was to determine the setting time using the resonant cavity method of cements based on Hydroxyapatite (Hap) and galactomannan (Gal) extracted from Adenanthera pavonina L. seeds. Two compounds were prepared: HAG (75% HAp and 25% Gal by weight as solid phase and 0.30 mL of distilled water as liquid phase) and HAGJET (75% Hap, 2% by weight of Gal powder with 0.10 mL of commercial catalyst JET (methyl dimethyl methacrylate) p-toluidine) and 0.20 ml of distilled water). The solid phase in each material was dissolved in the liquid corresponding to each compound formed. The insertion of HAG and HAGJET cements generated a disturbance in the electric field due to the presence of free water in the sample, where this disturbance decreases as the cement hardens due to the evaporation of this free water. According to the results, the HAG cement had the longest setting time due to the absence of the chemical activator in its preparation, while the HAGJET cement, which had the activator in its processing, presented the lowest setting time in both techniques.

ABSTRACT The cultivation of bell peppers, before transplanting, starts in nurseries to obtain uniform and vigorous seedlings. This study aimed to evaluate the effect of applying magnetically treated water on germination and the initial growth of bell pepper seedlings. Two experiments were conducted from August to October 2018 in a protected environment at the Irrigation Tecnic Center (CTI/ UEM) - Maringá, Paraná: the first in 50-cell polyethylene trays and the second in plastic containers (180 ml). Both experiments were filled with a commercial substrate (Su) and commercial substrate + soil mix (SS). The substrate was irrigated daily for the germination test, according to the corresponding treatment, and germination was quantified in the first 15 days after emergence to obtain the germination percentage and the final emerged percentage. Seedling growth was evaluated based on the following criteria at 43 days after sowing: height, stem diameter, total fresh mass, total dry mass, chlorophyll A and B, and carotenoids. The results showed that the application of magnetically treated water to seeds promoted germination one day prior to those irrigated without treatment when cultivated with SS. There was significant interaction for the chlorophyll A, with a 42% increase in SS cultivation with the application of magnetically treated water compared to the application of non-treated water. For the other variables, there were significant responses only in SS cultivation. Application of magnetically treated water caused higher gravimetric humidity in three out of ten evaluations, showing a significant reduction of evaporation in Su and SS cultivation.

RESUMEN El cultivo de pimiento se inicia con la siembra en almácigos para obtener plántulas uniformes y vigorosas. El objetivo de este estudio fue evaluar el efecto de la aplicación de agua tratada magnéticamente sobre la germinación y el crecimiento inicial de plántulas de pimiento. Se realizaron dos experimentos en un ambiente protegido en el Centro Técnico de Irrigación (CTI / UEM) - Maringá, Paraná, durante agosto a octubre de 2018. En el primer experimento se utilizaron bandejas de polietileno de 50 celdas y el segundo experimento se utilizaron envases de plástico (180 mL). En ambos experimentos se utilizaron dos tipos de sustrato, uno comercial (Su) y otro, con una mezcla de sustrato comercial + suelo (SS). Para la prueba de germinación, el sustrato se regó diariamente de acuerdo con el tratamiento. La germinación se cuantificó en los primeros 15 días después de la emergencia para obtener el porcentaje de germinación. Los parámetros medidos a los 43 días después de la siembra fueron: altura, diámetro del tallo, peso fresco total, peso seco seca total, clorofila A y B y carotenoides. Los resultados mostraron que la aplicación de agua tratada magnéticamente estimuló la germinación de las semillas un día antes de las que se regaron sin tratamiento cuando se cultivaron con SS. Hubo una interacción significativa para la clorofila A, con un aumento del 42% en el cultivo de SS con la aplicación de agua tratada magnéticamente en comparación con la aplicación de agua no tratada. Para las otras variables, hubo respuestas significativas solo en el cultivo de SS. La aplicación de agua tratada magnéticamente provocó una mayor humedad gravimétrica en tres de cada diez evaluaciones, mostrando una reducción significativa de la evaporación en el cultivo de Su y SS.
