RESUMO: A pelve, constituída pelo ílio, ísquio e púbis, forma o coxal, sendo este o maior dos ossos planos constituintes do esqueleto, com importante papel na fisiologia do parto. Vastamente estudada em animais domésticos, ainda existe muito à se investigar quanto a classificação anatômica nos animais selvagens, visando principalmente melhorar a compreensão do manejo reprodutivo das espécies. Tamandua tetradactyla é uma dessas espécies em que estudos morfológicos ainda são escassos, principalmente quando se trata de aspectos reprodutivos. Neste contexto realizamos a pelvimetria do T. tetradactyla por meio de imagens radiográficas para classificar anato-obstetricamente a pelve desta espécie classificando-a como dolicopélvica, sendo evidenciada homoscedasticidade das amostras. A verificação da existência de relação entre as variáveis estudadas pelo método estatístico dos coeficientes de Pearson mostrou correlação positivas de alta intensidade para os diâmetros estudados (P< 0,01). Assim, acreditamos que nossos achados poderão subsidiar futuros estudos reprodutivos nesta espécie.

ABSTRACT: The pelvis, formed by the ilium, ischium and pubis, forms the coxal, which is the largest of the flat bones of the skeleton, with an important role in the physiology of birth. Vastly studied in domestic animals, there is still much to be investigated regarding the anatomical classification in wild animals, mainly aiming to improve the understanding of the reproductive management of the species. Tamandua tetradactyla is one of these species in which morphological studies are still scarce, especially when it comes to reproductive aspects. In this context, we carried out the pelvimetry of T. tetradactyla using radiographic images to anatomically and obstetrically classify the pelvis of this species, classifying it as dolicopelvic, with evidence of homoscedasticity of the samples. Verification of the existence of a relationship between the variables studied by the statistical method of Pearson coefficients showed positive correlations of high intensity for the diameters studied (P < 0.01). Thus, we believed that our findings may support future reproductive studies in this species.

RESUMO: A clínica cirúrgica de animais silvestres tem se intensificado na rotina veterinária, onde fraturas por traumas são frequentes. O objetivo deste estudo foi a determinação de acessos cirúrgicos para osteossíntese das diáfises do úmero, rádio e ulna de preguiça-comum (Bradypus variegatus). Sete cadáveres de B. variegatus foram utilizados para determinação dos músculos do membro torácico, bem como dos vasos e nervos mais importantes, e melhor área óssea para fixação de implantes internos. A conformação estrutural do rádio e da ulna em B. variegatus eram similares às descritas na literatura para animais domésticos, o úmero apresentou diferenças na extremidade distal pois apresentou-se achatado. A musculatura de B. variegatus mostrou semelhanças com os animais domésticos. Devido à diferente conformação do úmero o acesso cirúrgico a este osso pode ser realizado por abordagem lateral, a partir da incisão do M. tríceps braquial cabeça lateral, para fixação do implante na face lateral do osso. O acesso cirúrgico à diáfise do rádio pode ser realizado por abordagem craniolateral, por incisão da fáscia muscular e separação cranialmente do M. extensor digital comum e extensor digital lateral caudalmente. Na ulna, pode-se realizar um acesso caudal ao osso seguido de liberação da inserção do M. flexor carpoulnar para colocação do implante interno na face lateral do osso.

ABSTRACT: The surgical clinic of wild animals has increased in routine veterinary, where fractures by traumas are of frequent occurrence. This study determined the surgical accesses for osteosynthesis of the diaphyses of the humerus, radius and ulna of common sloth (Bradypus variegatus). Seven cadavers of B. variegatus were used for determination of the muscles of the thoracic limb, as well as the most important vessels and nerves, and better bone area for fixation of internal implants. The structural conformation of the radius and ulna in Bradypus variegatus were like those described in the literature for domestic animals but the humerus presented differences in the distal extremity because it was flattened. The musculature of Bradypus variegatus showed similarities with domestic animals. Due the different conformation of the humerus the surgical access to this bone can be performed by lateral approach, from the incision of M. triceps brachii lateral head, for fixation of the implant on the lateral side of the bone. Surgical access to the radius shaft can be performed by craniolateral approach, by incising the muscular fascia and separation of the cranially M. common digital extensor, and lateral digital extensor caudally. In ulna, a caudal access to the bone can be performed followed by release of the insertion m. flexor carpoulnar for placement of the internal implant on the lateral bone face.

Resumo Entre os nematodas de Cerdocyon thous, o gênero Pterygodermatites é característico por apresentar projeções cuticulares ao longo do corpo, sendo citado em diferentes hospedeiros na América do Sul, porém, sem registros de sua ocorrência no Bioma Amazônia. Passível de maior exploração quanto à sua morfologia e morfometria, os nematoides colhidos de cadáveres de C. thous foram fixados e observados em microscopia de campo claro e microscopia eletrônica de varredura, revelando características compatíveis com P. (Multipectines) affinis. Com isso contribuiu com mais informações sobre a distribuição geográfica do parasito, bem como o conhecimento da fauna helmintológica de mamíferos selvagens na Amazônia brasileira.

Abstract Among the Nematodes of Cerdocyon thous, the genus Pterygodermatites is characteristic for presenting cuticular projections along the body, being mentioned in different hosts in South America, although there are no records of its occurrence in the Amazon Biome. To enable further exploration in terms of their morphology and morphometry, the nematodes collected from cadavers of C. thous were fixed and observed using bright field microscopy and scanning electron microscopy, revealing characteristics compatible with P. (Multipectines) affinis, thus contributing more information about the geographic distribution of the parasite, as well as knowledge of the helminthological fauna of wild mammals in the Brazilian Amazon.

Abstract INTRODUCTION Tuberculosis (TB) is an infectious and contagious disease caused by Mycobacterium tuberculosis. TB emerged in the 21st century as an unsolved public health problem. This study aimed to analyze the relationship between the characteristics of basic health units (BHUs) and the number of TB cases detected in Maranhão, Brazil. METHODS An ecological, analytical study was conducted using the municipalities in the state of Maranhão as the unit of analysis. Data regarding the number of detected TB cases was obtained from the Sistema de Informação de Agravos de Notificação database, and the characteristics of the BHUs were obtained from the first cycle of data collection for the Program to Improve Access and Quality of Basic Care. The BHU structure was classified as adequate (80%-100%), partially adequate (60%-79%), poorly adequate (40%-59%), or inadequate (<40%) according to the presence of specified items. The number of BHUs per municipality in each adequacy category was estimated. Inflated Poisson regression analysis was performed to estimate the incidence density ratios (IDRs) and the 95% confidence intervals (95% CIs). RESULTS Municipalities with a higher level of BHU adequacy had a higher number of detected TB cases (IDR = 1.61, 95% CI: 1.01-2.60). CONCLUSIONS Better structured health services in primary care may be associated with better detection and/or notification of TB cases.

Resumo O estudo de helmintos de animais selvagens vitimados por atropelamento, ainda é uma prática pouco comum, porém pode ser promissor, uma vez que permite a identificação de helmintos a partir de hospedeiros juvenis e adultos, e atendem às atuais discussões em bioética, as quais priorizam métodos alternativos para o uso de animais. Foram avaliados 3 exemplares de Cerdocyon thous provenientes de doação pós-óbito por atropelamento. Dois deles apresentaram pequenos nematoides adultos inseridos nos tecidos epitelial e conjuntivo da língua. O diagnóstico foi baseado na análise de cortes histológicos que evidenciaram a presença de ovos no interior do nematoide e nas características morfológicas gerais do mesmo. Morfologicamente estes nematoides apresentavam corpo com estrias transversais, abertura bucal simples e lábios ausentes, esôfago trichuroiude com a presença de esticócitos e bandas bacilares ao longo do corpo, característica morfologicamente sugestiva da família Capillariidae e do gênero Capillaria . A presença de nematoides inseridos na língua de C. thous é um fato de extrema importância para o conhecimento da biodiversidade de parasitos zoonóticos circulantes presentes em populações selvagens de canídeos. Porém, permanece obscura a explicação para tais achados, uma vez que tal evento não foi observado no ciclo biológico das espécies até o momento.

Abstract Studies of helminths in road-killed wild animals are still uncommon but may provide promising results since they can identify the parasites in juvenile and adult hosts and meet the recommendations of current discussions on bioethics that prioritize alternative methods for the use of animals. This study evaluated three Cerdocyon thous individuals that were donated after dying from being run over. Two of them had small nematode adults in the epithelial and connective tissues of the tongue. The diagnosis was based on the presence of eggs, observed in histological sections, and morphological characteristics of the nematodes in the tongue. Morphologically, this nematode has a body with transverse grooves, simple mouth opening and no lips, esophagus and stichosome with stichocytes and bacillary bands along the body, which is characteristic morphology of the family Capilariidae and genus Capillaria . The presence of this nematode in the tongue of C. thous is an extremely important fact that contributes to what is known about the biodiversity of zoonotic parasites in wild canid populations. However, an explanation for these findings remains unclear because, until now, this has not been observed in the biological cycle of the species.

Abstract Behavioral intelligence among non-human primates is a somewhat puzzling area to study, since it is closely linked to the morphology of the central nervous system. However, this morphology is still unknown to science in the case of Saimiri collinsi. As a means of assisting future studies on the social behavior of this species, we analyzed the brains of six adult females from the National Primate Center / Pará, which were sent to the Animal Morphological Research Laboratory at the Federal Rural University of Amazônia after death by natural causes. The animals were fixed in formaldehyde solution (10%) and dissected. The brains were covered externally by the dura mater, with long cerebral hemispheres, although there was a complete absence of gyri. The internal structures which form a part of the telencephalon, diencephalon, midbrain, hindbrain and myelencephalon were identified, with the exception of the mammillary bodies. This condition, when linked to the lissencephaly found in these individuals raises questions about the real learning abilities of this species.

ABSTRACT The wall of the diaphragm can be affected by changes caused by physical trauma, allowing the passage of viscera between the abdominal cavity and thoracic cavity, thus reducing the space for pulmonary expansion, leading to the formation of hernia and possible death. Thus, we aimed to characterize, size and determine the topography of the diaphragmatic muscle in the Southern Tamandua, since clinical and surgical activities in wild animals have become a reality more and more present in veterinary medicine. We used six adult animals, x-rayed and dissected, followed by collection of fragments of muscular portions for histological analysis. Initially we observed that the animals presented 17 thoracic vertebrae, 3 lumbar vertebrae and 5 sacral vertebrae. The diaphragm was conformed by three segments: sternal, costal and right and left diaphragm pillar, with presence of tendinous centre that housed the passage of the caudal vena cava, called foramen of the caudal vena cava. Dorsally to the tendinous centre, already in the muscle portion, we located the esophageal and aortic hiatus. These findings, as well as the microscopic, were equivalent to that found in the general literature also, corroborating with descriptions already carried out in other mammals’ diaphragms.

ABSTRACT The wall of the diaphragm can be affected by congenital or acquired alterations which allow the passage of viscera between the abdominal and chest cavities, allowing the formation of a diaphragmatic hernia. We characterized morphology and performed biometrics of the diaphragm in the common squirrel monkey Saimiri sciureus. After fixation, muscle fragments were collected and processed for optical microscopy. In this species the diaphragm muscle is attached to the lung by phrenopericardial ligament. It is also connected to the liver via the coronary and falciform ligaments. The muscle is composed of three segments in total: 1) sternal; 2) costal, and 3) a segment consisting of right and left diaphragmatic pillars. The anatomical structures analyzed were similar to those reported for other mammals. Histological analysis revealed stable, organized muscle fibers with alternation of light and dark streaks, indicating transverse striation.

Neste estudo, foram estimados percentuais de incompletude vacinal e fatores associados ao esquema vacinal para novas vacinas (EVNV) e esquema vacinal para antigas vacinas (EVAV) em crianças de 13 a 35 meses de idade de uma coorte de nascimento em São Luís, Maranhão, Brasil. A amostra foi probabilística, com 3.076 crianças nascidas em 2010. Informações sobre vacinação foram obtidas da Caderneta de Saúde da Criança. As vacinas consideradas para o EVNV foram meningocócica C e pneumocócica 10 valente, e para EVAV, vacinas BCG, hepatite B, rotavírus humano, poliomielite, tetravalente (vacina difteria, tétano, coqueluche e Haemophilus influenzae b), febre amarela, tríplice viral (vacina sarampo, caxumba, rubéola). Empregou-se modelagem hierarquizada e regressão de Poisson com variância robusta. Estimaram-se razões de prevalência (RP) e intervalos de 95% de confiança (IC95%). Incompletude vacinal foi maior para EVNV (51,1%) em relação ao EVAV (33,2%). Crianças com 25 a 35 meses de idade (RP = 1,27; IC95%: 1,14-1,41) e pertencer às classes D/E (RP = 1,20; IC95%: 1,06-1,35) se associaram somente ao EVNV; enquanto baixa escolaridade materna (RP = 1,58; IC95%: 1,21-2,06), indisponibilidade de atendimento ambulatorial e/ou hospitalar para a criança (RP = 1,20; IC95%: 1,04-1,38) e de vacina nos serviços de saúde (RP = 1,28; IC95%: 1,12-1,46), apenas ao EVAV. Faz-se importante considerar, nas estratégias de vacinação, a vulnerabilidade de crianças com mais idade e pertencentes às classes D e E, especialmente quando novas vacinas são introduzidas, e ainda de filhos de mães que possuem baixa escolaridade. Assim como, quando há menor disponibilidade de serviços de saúde para a criança e de vacina.

This study estimated the percentages of incomplete immunization with new vaccines and old vaccines and associated factors in children 13 to 35 months of age belonging to a birth cohort in São Luís, the capital of Maranhão State, Brazil. The sample was probabilistic, with 3,076 children born in 2010. Information on vaccination was obtained from the Child’s Health Card. The new vaccines, namely those introduced in 2010, were meningococcal C and 10-valent pneumococcal, and the old vaccines, or those already on the childhood immunization schedule, were BCG, hepatitis B, human rotavirus, polio, tetravalent (diphtheria, tetanus, pertussis, Haemophilus influenzae b), yellow fever, and triple viral (measles, mumps, rubella). The study used hierarchical modeling and Poisson regression with robust variance. Prevalence ratios (PR) and 95% confidence intervals (95%CI) were calculated. Incomplete immunization was higher with new vaccines (51.1%) than with old vaccines (33.2%). Children 25 to 35 months of age (PR = 1.27; 95%CI: 1.14-1.41) and those in economic classes D/E (PR = 1.20; 95%CI: 1.06-1.35) were only significantly associated with new vaccines; low maternal schooling (PR = 1.58; 95%CI: 1.21-2.06), unavailability of outpatient and/or hospital care for the child (PR = 1.20; 95%CI: 1.04-1.38), and unavailability of the vaccine in health services (PR: 1.28; 95%CI: 1.12-1.46) were only associated with old vaccines. Immunization strategies should consider the vulnerability of older preschool-age children and those belonging to classes D and E, especially when new vaccines are introduced, as well as children of mothers with low schooling. Strategies should also address problems with the availability of health services and vaccines.

En este estudio se estimaron porcentajes de vacunación no completada y los factores asociados al esquema de vacunas para nuevas vacunas (EVNV) y al de antiguas vacunas (EVAV), en niños de 13 a 35 meses de edad de una cohorte de nacimiento en São Luís, Maranhão, Brasil. La muestra fue probabilística, con 3.076 niños nacidos en 2010. La información sobre la vacunación se obtuvo de la cartilla de salud del niño. Las vacunas consideradas para el EVNV fueron la meningocócica C y neumocócica 10 valente, y para EVAV, vacunas BCG, hepatitis B, rotavirus humano, poliomielitis, tetravalente (vacuna difteria, tétanos, tosferina y Haemophilus influenzae b), fiebre amarilla, triple viral (vacuna contra el sarampión, paperas, rubeola). Se empleó un modelo jerarquizado y la regresión de Poisson con variancia robusta. Se estimaron razones de prevalencia (RP) e intervalos de 95% de confianza (IC95%). La vacunación no completada fue mayor para EVNV (51,1%), en relación con el EVAV (33,2%). Ser niños de 25 a 35 meses de edad (RP = 1,27; IC95%: 1,14-1,41) y pertenecer a las clases D/E (RP = 1,20; IC95%: 1,06-1,35) se asociaron solamente al EVNV; mientras que la baja escolaridad materna (RP = 1,58; IC95%: 1,21-2,06), indisponibilidad de atención ambulatoria y/o hospitalaria para el niño (RP = 1,20; IC95%: 1,04-1,38) y de la vacuna en los servicios de salud (RP = 1,28; IC95%: 1,12-1,46), solamente al EVAV. Es importante considerar, en las estrategias de vacunación, la vulnerabilidad de los niños con más edad y pertenecientes a las clases D y E, especialmente cuando se introducen las nuevas vacunas, incluyendo también a los hijos de madres con baja escolaridad. También es problemática la existencia de una menor disponibilidad de servicios de salud para el niño y de la vacuna.

Resumo O documento que apresentamos é fruto da reflexão de Editores de Periódico Científicos ligados ao FEPAE Sudeste – Fórum de Editores de Periódicos da Área de Educação Sudeste – e expressa preocupações concretas sobre as condições materiais para a realização de seu trabalho, assim como, sobre os critérios de avaliação que vêm sendo utilizados para qualificar suas revistas. Orçamentos mais enxutos, o desmonte de estruturas universitárias que sustentavam muitas revistas acadêmicas e indexadores que cada vez mais complicam os procedimentos operacionais envolvidos na produção editorial, fragilizam as revistas nacionais. Falta de visibilidade sobre os processos de avaliação, ausência de diálogo sobre resultados e questões ligadas à periodicidade do QUALIS trazem uma insegurança para os autores que têm nos periódicos o veículo de divulgação de suas práticas e teorias. Queremos, assim, adensar a discussão com a comunidade científica e a Agência Reguladora Governamental, sobre os destinos que estarão reservados aos Periódicos Científicos brasileiros.

Abstract The document we presented is the result of the reflection of Editors of Scientific Journals connected to FEPAE Southeast and expresses concrete concerns about the material conditions for the realization of its work and about the evaluation criteria that have been used to qualify its journals. Cheaper budgets, dismantling of university structures that supported many academic journals and indicators which everytime complicate even more the operational procedures involved in editorial production, undermine the national journals. Lack of visibility about the evaluation procedures, absence of dialogue about results and questions connected to the Qualis frequency bring uncertainty for the authors who have in the journals a vehicle for sharing its practices and theories. This way we want to deepen the discussion with the scientific community and the Regulatory Governmental Agency - CAPES - about the destinations reserved to Brazilian Scientific Journals.

Resumen El documento que presentamos es fruto de la reflexión de Editores de Revistas Científicas ligadas al FEPAE Sudoeste – Foro de Editores de Revistas del Área de Educación Sudoeste – y expresa preocupaciones concretas sobre las condiciones materiales para la realización de su trabajo, así como sobre los criterios de evaluación que vienen siendo utilizados para calificar sus revistas. Presupuestos más restrictos, el desmonte de estructuras universitarias que sustentaban muchas revistas académicas e indexadores que cada vez complican más los procedimientos operacionales involucrados en la producción editorial, fragilizan a las revistas nacionales. Falta de visibilidad sobre los procesos de evaluación, ausencia de diálogo sobre resultados y cuestiones ligadas a la periodicidad del QUALIS representan incertidumbre para los autores que ven a las revistas como un vehículo de divulgación de sus prácticas y teorías. Queremos, así, enriquecer la discusión con la comunidad científica y la Agencia Reguladora Gubernamental, sobre los destinos que estarán reservados a las Revistas Científicas brasileras.

Resumo: O cachorro-do-mato (Cerdocyon thous) pertence à família Canidae, encontra-se amplamente distribuído pela América do Sul. Devido à escassez literária a respeito da morfologia desta espécie objetivamos colaborar com o conhecimento da anatomia do arco aórtico e seus ramos colaterais. Foram estudados quatro animais, sendo 2 machos e 2 fêmeas oriundos da Mina de Bauxita, Paragominas, Pará, Brasil/Terra Ltda, sob autorização da SEMA-PA nº 455/2009, que morreram por causas naturais. O sistema arterial foi preenchido com látex corado em vermelho e fixado em solução aquosa de formoldeído 10%. O arco aórtico de Cerdocyon thous apresentou em sua origem apenas dois vasos, o tronco braquiocefálico e a artéria subclávia esquerda. Do tronco braquiocefálico originou-se o tronco bicarotídeo, que se bifurcou nas artérias carótidas comum direita e esquerda, e artéria subclávia direita. Das artérias subclávias ocorreu a formação do tronco costocervical, artéria vertebral, artéria torácica interna, artéria cervical superficial e ao atingir o espaço axilar passa a ser chamada de artéria axilar em ambos os antímeros. Concluímos que o arco aórtico de Cerdocyon thous é similar ao de outros animais domésticos com relação ao número de ramificações em sua origem.

Abstract: Crab-eating fox (Cerdocyon thous) belongs to the Canidae family distributed in South America. Due to literary scarcity regarding the morphology of this species, we objectifiked to collaborate with description of the anatomy of the aortic arch and its collateral branches. We studied four foxes, 2 males and 2 females, from Mina Bauxita, Paragominas, Pará, Brazil/Terra Ltda, under authorization of SEMA-PA nº 455/2009, that died of natural causes. The arterial system was filled with red latex and fixation with 10% formaldehyde solution. The aortic arch of Cerdocyon thous showed that in its origin are two vessels, brachiocephalic trunk and left subclavian artery. From brachiocephalic trunk originates the bicarotid trunk, bifurcated into left and right carotid common arteries, and right subclavian artery. The subclavian arteries originates the costocervical trunk, vertebral artery, internal thoracic artery, superficial cervical artery, to reach the axillary space, and passes to be called axillary artery on both sides. We conclude that the aortic arch of Cerdocyon thous is similar to the one in other domestic animals regarding the number of ramificastions at its origin.

Resumo: Sapajus apella é um primata do Novo Mundo de porte médio e com distribuição geográfica desde a América do Sul até a Argentina. São bons modelos para estudo e nos últimos anos vêm sendo amplamente utilizados para este fim. A destruição progressiva do habitat natural desses animais os tem levado a migrarem para outras regiões, tornando-os, assim, mais susceptíveis à caça predatória. A necessidade de preservação das espécies silvestres desperta interesse por um maior conhecimento anatômico e clínico para estes animais. O presente estudo teve como objetivo examinar e descrever os aspectos morfológicos, quanto a anatomia macroscópica e microscópica dos órgãos do sistema urinário de fêmeas da espécie Sapajus apella visando estender o conhecimento anatômico para esta espécie. Foram utilizadas quatro fêmeas, oriundas do Centro Nacional de Primatas de Ananindeua/PA. istema urinário de S. apella apresenta características similares a outros primatas tanto humanos quanto não humanos e aos animais domésticos. Os rins apresentaram aspectos macroscópicos semelhantes aos rins de humanos, mas com a mesma classificação de outros primatas não humanos e alguns animais domésticos. A bexiga assemelhou-se aos animais domésticos e aos primatas de maneira geral, humano e não humano. O mesmo ocorreu quando analisamos estes órgãos histologicamente.

Abstract: Sapajus apella is a primate of the New World of midsize and with geographical distribution from South America to Argentina. Good models for the study and in recent years have been widely used for this purpose. The progressive destruction of the natural habitat of these animals has led to migrate to other regions, thus making them more susceptible to hunting predator. The need for the preservation of wild species arouses interest by a greater anatomic and clinical knowledge of these animals. The present study was aimed to examine and describe the morphological aspects, as far as the macroscopic and microscopic anatomy of the organs of the urinary system of female Sapajus apella aiming to extend the anatomical knowledge for this species. Four females were used, from the National Center of Primates in Ananindeua - PA. The urinary system of S. apella has similar characteristics to other primates both human and non-human and domestic animals. The kidneys showed macroscopic aspects similar to the kidneys of humans, but with the same classification of other non-human primates and some domestic animals. The bladder was similar to domestic animals and primates in general, human and non-human. The same occurred when we analyze these components histologically.

Resumo OBJETIVO Identificar a ocorrência de infecção de sítio cirúrgico (ISC) e seus fatores de risco em pacientes submetidos a cirurgias de cólon, em um hospital terciário do interior paulista. MÉTODO Estudo de coorte não concorrente, por meio do levantamento de informações contidas nos prontuários de pacientes submetidos a cirurgias de cólon no período compreendido entre janeiro de 2010 e dezembro de 2013. As variáveis estudadas foram os possíveis fatores de risco ligados ao paciente, às características demográficas e ao procedimento cirúrgico. RESULTADOS Foram avaliados 155 pacientes, com uma incidência global de ISC de 16,7%. Encontrou-se associação estatisticamente significativa tanto na análise uni quanto na multivariada entre a ISC e as seguintes variáveis: sexo masculino, pontuação de Charlson e preparo mecânico intestinal. CONCLUSÃO A compreensão dos profissionais de saúde sobre os fatores que influenciam a incidência de ISC nas cirurgias de cólon pode contribuir para a qualidade da assistência prestada ao paciente cirúrgico a partir de ações efetivas que minimizem os riscos de infecções.

Abstract OBJECTIVE To identify the occurrence of surgical site infection (SSI) and its risk factors in patients undergoing colon surgery in a tertiary hospital located in the countryside of the state of São Paulo. METHOD Retrospective cohort study, with collection of information contained in the medical records of patients undergoing colon surgery in the period between January 2010 and December 2013. The studied variables were the possible risk factors related to the patient, to demographic characteristics and the surgical procedure. RESULTS In total, were evaluated 155 patients with an overall SSI incidence of 16.7%. A statistically significant association was found both in the univariate as in the multivariate analysis between the SSI and the following variables: male gender, Charlson index and mechanical bowel preparation. CONCLUSION The understanding of health professionals about the factors that influence the incidence of SSI in colon surgery may contribute to the quality of care provided to surgical patients, from effective actions to minimize the risk of infections.

Resumen OBJETIVO Identificar la ocurrencia de infección de sitio quirúrgico (ISQ) y sus factores de riesgo en pacientes sometidos a cirugías de colon, en un hospital terciario del interior del Estado de São Paulo. MÉTODO Estudio de cohorte no concurrente, mediante relevamiento de informaciones contenidas en las fichas de pacientes sometidos a cirugías de colon en el período comprendido entre enero de 2010 y diciembre de 2013. Las variables estudiadas fueron los posibles factores de riesgo vinculados con el paciente, los rasgos demográficos y el procedimiento quirúrgico. RESULTADOS Fueron evaluados 155 pacientes, con una incidencia global de ISQ del 16,7%. Se encontró asociación estadísticamente significativa tanto en el análisis univariado como en el multivariado entre la ISQ y las siguientes variables: sexo masculino, puntuación de Charlson y preparación mecánica intestinal. CONCLUSIÓN La comprensión de los profesionales de la salud acerca de los factores que influencian la incidencia de ISQ en las cirugías de colon puede contribuir a la calidad de la asistencia prestada al paciente quirúrgico mediante acciones efectivas que minimicen los riesgos de infecciones.
