The Clement-Desormes experiment is reviewed. By reason of a finite difference between the pressure within the system and its surroundings, Bertrand and McDonald have criticized the usual consideration of the adiabatic expansion as reversible. Garland, Nibler and Shoemaker oppose, defining regions through virtual boundaries where the surroundings do not operate. For Holden, the use of virtual boundaries is expendable. Experiments cannot support a hypothesis testing due to experiment's intrinsic uncertainty. The role of polytropy in uncertainty is discussed. Both thermodynamic definitions and kinetic model depict the real processes as irreversible phenomena and the reversible ones as a limiting hypothetical case.

A fluid conducting composite material prepared from graphite powder, commercial epoxy resin Araldite®, and cyclohexanone has been developed. The composition was optimized considering the mechanical properties as conductivity and adhesiveness using response surface methodology. This work employed cyclic voltammetry and amperometry to investigate the characteristics of such composite electrodes without and with the insertion of Prussian blue in the electrode body (bulk modified electrode). The composite electrodes were also successfully used for the amperometric detection of hydrogen peroxide at 0.0V vs Ag/AgCl.

The barometric equation is revisited. Restrictions imposed for its derivation are investigated. Results are discussed and related to simple themes of ordinary life. The theoretical models fit to experimental data. Correction for temperature effect improves the fitting in comparison to the barometric formula. The scope for application of the model is discussed.

Copper selenide (berzelianite) films were prepared on the title substrates using the chemical bath deposition technique (CBD). Film composition was determined by energy dispersion of x-rays. The kinetics of film growth is parabolic and film adherence limits the film thickness. On titanium, copper selenide forms islands that do not completely cover the surface, unless the substrate is prepared with a tin oxide layer; film composition also depends on the titanium oxide layer. On vitreous carbon, CBD and mechanical immobilization techniques lead to films with similar resistances for the electron transfer across the film/substrate interface. On gold, composition studies revealed that film composition is always the same if the pH is in the range from 8 to 12, in contrast to films prepared by an ion-ion combination route. On copper, a new procedure for obtaining copper selenide films as thick as 5 µm has been developed.

Propõe-se um modelo de crescimento de filmes finos de seleneto de cobre. É apresentada uma equação matemática que descreve a cinética de crescimento do filme. São apresentados resultados simulados bem como discussão sobre os resultados do modelo. Fez-se um procedimento de ajuste dos dados derivados do modelo com resultados experimentais. Foi estimado o coeficiente de difusão dos íons Cu(I) em seleneto de cobre.

A model of the growth of thin films of copper selenides is proposed. A mathematical equation that describes the kinetics of the growth is derived. Simulated results and a discussion on the results of the model are presented. A fitting procedure of literature data with the derived equation is carried out. The diffusion coefficient of copper(I) ions in copper selenide is roughly estimated.
