Scientific press releases are reaching the public directly through press reproduction or institutional dissemination. Science News Agencies (SNAs) mediate this process, distributing texts to thousands of journalists while also "leaking" them on their websites and social media. This comparative case study examines four SNAs — BORI, SMC UK, AlphaGalileo, and EurekAlert! — regarding their role in circulating public scientific information. Through literature review and principles such as openness and inclusion in science, we converted scholars' concerns into a preliminary index potentially capable of assessing SNAs' public suitability. The SNAPI (Science News Agencies Public Index) suggests a shift from purely public relations content towards serving the public interest, highlighting areas needing attention in SNAs' social function, to be refined in future research. Clear guidelines, links to open scientific articles, and explicit notices on press releases’ purposes are simple yet effective ways to address issues concerning science public relations' pervasiveness in the public sphere.

Resumen Objetivo Evaluar la calidad del sueño de profesionales de los servicios de emergencia y su relación con el nivel de fatiga y calidad de vida. Métodos Estudio descriptivo, transversal y correlacional, realizado en las unidades del Servicio de Atención Móbil de Urgencia (SAMU) y en la Unidad de Pronta Atención (UPA), en el año 2021, con 108 participantes. Para evaluar la calidad del sueño, se utilizó el Índice de Calidad del Sueño de Pittsburgh, versión brasileña (PSQI-BR). Para evaluar la fatiga, se utilizó la Escala de Fatiga de Chalder, junto con la Escala de Necesidad de Descanso (ENEDE). Para evaluar la calidad de vida, se utilizó el World Health Organization Quality of Life Brief Version (WHOQOL-bref). Los instrumentos utilizados fueron adaptados al idioma portugués en estudios anteriores. Se aplicaron pruebas de asociación para el análisis estadístico, para lo cual se utilizó la Prueba χ2 de Pearson, la Prueba U de Mann-Whitney o la prueba de Kruskal-Wallis y la correlación de Spearman. Se consideraron valores de p<0,05 como significativos. Resultados Se identificó que el 72,2 % de los participantes presentó una mala calidad de sueño y el 75,9 % tenía fatiga. Se observó una asociación significativa entre la calidad del sueño y la fatiga, la necesidad de descanso y la calidad de vida. Resumo Objetivo Avaliar a qualidade do sono de profissionais dos serviços de emergência e sua associação com o nível de fadiga e qualidade de vida. Abstract Objective To assess emergency service professionals’ sleep quality and its association with the level of fatigue and quality of life. Methods A descriptive, cross-sectional and correlational study, carried out in the units of the Mobile Emergency Care Service (SAMU) and in the Emergency Care Unit (ECU), in 2021, with 108 participants. To assess sleep quality, the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index, Brazilian version (PSQI-BR), was used; to assess fatigue, the Chalder Fatigue Scale was used, together with the Need for Recovery Scale (NFR); and to assess quality of life, the World Health Organization Quality of Life Brief Version (WHOQOL-bref) was used, and the instruments used were adapted to Portuguese in previous studies. Association tests were applied for statistical analysis, using Pearson’s chi-square test, Mann-Whitney U test or Kruskal Wallis and Spearman’s correlation. P-values <0.05 were considered significant. Results It was identified that 72.2% of participants had poor sleep quality and 75.9% were fatigued. A significant association was observed between sleep quality and fatigue, the need for recovery and quality of life. Caracterizado por síntomas que permanecen o aparecen por primera vez dentro de los tres meses posteriores a la infección por SARS-CoV-2, la COVID larga puede manifestarse de diferentes formas, incluso entre casos no hospitalizados o asintomáticos. En este sentido, este artículo presenta un panorama la COVID larga en Brasil, con énfasis en el diagnóstico, los síntomas y los desafíos para la nueva gestión de la salud. Se utilizaron datos de una encuesta realizada para investigar la COVID larga en personas afectadas por COVID-19. Se trata de datos originales de una encuesta con individuos brasileños adultos (18 años o más), que tuvieron COVID-19, con datos recolectados entre el 14 de marzo y el 14 de abril de 2022, por medio de un cuestionario divulgado en las redes sociales. El cuestionario abordó características sociodemográficas, historial de infecciones por COVID-19, vacunación contra la enfermedad, investigación de la situación de salud y de la calidad de vida antes y después de COVID-19, además de la búsqueda y acceso a tratamiento. De los 1.728 encuestados, 720 fueron considerados elegibles para el análisis. De ellos, 496 (69%) tenían COVID larga. Las personas con COVID larga informaron manifestaciones clínicas como ansiedad (80%), pérdida de memoria (78%), dolor generalizado (77%), falta de atención (75%), fatiga (73%), pérdida de cabello (71%), cambios en el sueño (70%), cambios de humor (62%), malestar (60%) y dolor en las articulaciones (59%). La mayoría recurrió a los servicios de salud durante y después de la fase aguda de COVID-19 (94% y 80%, respectivamente), lo que representa la necesidad de estructurar el sistema de salud para atender a estos pacientes.

Dos 1.728 respondentes, 720 foram considerados elegíveis para a análise. Desses, 496 (69%) tiveram COVID longa. Os indivíduos com COVID longa reportaram manifestações clínicas como ansiedade (80%), perda de memória (78%), dor generalizada (77%), falta de atenção (75%), fadiga (73%), queda de cabelo (71%), alterações de sono (70%), alterações de humor (62%), indisposição (60%) e dor nas articulações (59%). A maioria procurou os serviços de saúde durante e após a fase aguda de COVID-19 (94% e 80%, respectivamente), o que representa a necessidade de estruturar o sistema de saúde para atender esses pacientes.

Characterized by symptoms that remain or appear for the first time within three months of SARS-CoV-2 infection, long COVID can manifest itself in different ways, including in non-hospitalized or asymptomatic cases. Thus, this study offers an overview of long COVID in Brazil, especially of its diagnosis, symptoms, and challenges for new health management. Data from a study that investigated long COVID in people affected by COVID-19 were used. These original data stem from a survey with adult Brazilians (aged 18 years or older) who had COVID-19 that collected information from March 14 to April 14, 2022, by a questionnaire on social media. The questionnaire addressed sociodemographic characteristics, history of COVID-19 infections, vaccination against the disease, investigation of health status and quality of life before and after COVID-19, and search and access to treatment. Of the 1,728 respondents, 720 were considered eligible for analysis, of which 496 (69%) had long COVID. Individuals with long COVID reported clinical manifestations such as anxiety (80%), memory loss (78%), generalized pain (77%), lack of attention (75%), fatigue (73%), hair loss (71%), sleep changes (70%), mood swings (62%), malaise (60%), and joint pain (59%). Most sought health services during and after the acute phase of COVID-19 (94 and 80%, respectively), representing the need to structure the healthcare system for these patients.

ABSTRACT Objective. To create and validate criteria for prioritizing problems related to policies and management of the health workforce. Methods. This methodological study was divided into three stages. First, the criteria were elaborated by means of a systematized literature review. Second, the criteria were evaluated online by a committee of judges comprised of eight specialists. In the third stage, an evaluation was carried out by the target audience in a hybrid workshop. The participants evaluated the material using the Suitability Assessment of Materials instrument, adapted for the research. Results. Three prioritization criteria (relevance, window of opportunity and acceptability) and a scoring scale were developed based on the literature review. In the evaluation by the committee of judges, the approval percentage of the criteria and prioritization method was 84%. Modifications were made based on suggestions in relation to the material presented to the specialists. In the pre-test stage, the approval percentage varied by item, with six of them reaching a maximum approval of 100% (corresponding to approximately 46% of the items), four reaching 92% and three achieving 83% each, indicating positive results. Conclusions. The developed criteria were considered valid for use in the context of policies and management in the area of human resources for health.

RESUMO Objetivo. Criar e validar critérios para priorizar problemas relacionados a políticas e gerenciamento da força de trabalho em saúde. Métodos. O presente estudo metodológico foi dividido em três fases. Primeiro, foram elaborados critérios por meio de revisão sistematizada da literatura. A seguir, os critérios foram avaliados on-line por uma comissão de juízes composta por oito especialistas. Na terceira fase, o público-alvo fez uma avaliação dos critérios em uma oficina de formato híbrido. Os participantes avaliaram o material usando o instrumento Suitability Assessment of Materials, adaptado para esta pesquisa. Resultados. Com base na revisão da literatura, foram elaborados três critérios de priorização (relevância, janela de oportunidade e aceitabilidade) e uma escala de pontuação. Na avaliação da comissão de juízes, a porcentagem de aprovação dos critérios e do método de priorização foi de 84%. Foram feitas alterações com base em sugestões relacionadas ao material apresentado aos especialistas. Na fase de pré-teste, a porcentagem de aprovação variou de acordo com o item. Seis deles (aproximadamente 46% dos itens) atingiram aprovação máxima de 100%, quatro atingiram 92% e três atingiram 83%, indicando resultados positivos. Conclusões. Os critérios desenvolvidos foram considerados válidos para uso no contexto de políticas e gerenciamento na área de recursos humanos em saúde.

RESUMEN Objetivo. Crear y validar criterios para priorizar los problemas relacionados con las políticas y la gestión de los recursos humanos para la salud. Métodos. Este estudio metodológico se dividió en tres etapas. En la primera se elaboraron los criterios mediante una revisión sistematizada de la bibliografía. En la segunda un comité de ocho especialistas evaluó en línea los criterios. Y la tercera consistió en una evaluación por parte del público destinatario en un taller híbrido. Los participantes evaluaron el material utilizando el instrumento de evaluación de la idoneidad de los materiales, que fue adaptado para la investigación. Resultados. Sobre la base de la revisión de la bibliografía, se elaboraron tres criterios para la asignación de prioridades (relevancia, ventana de oportunidad y aceptabilidad) y una escala de puntuación. En la evaluación realizada por el comité de especialistas, el porcentaje de aprobación de los criterios y del método de asignación de prioridades fue del 84%. Se realizaron modificaciones basadas en sugerencias planteadas con respecto al material presentado a los especialistas. En la etapa posterior de prueba preliminar, el porcentaje de aprobación varió en los distintos puntos, de tal manera que en seis puntos (es decir, en aproximadamente el 46% de los puntos) se alcanzó una aprobación máxima del 100%, en cuatro una aprobación del 92% y en tres una aprobación del 83% en cada uno, lo que indica unos resultados positivos. Conclusiones. Se consideró que los criterios elaborados son válidos para su uso en el contexto de las políticas y la gestión en el ámbito de los recursos humanos para la salud.

ABSTRACT This study aimed to determine the antibiotic profile of microorganisms isolated from urine samples of patients with community urine tract infections (UTI) admitted to the University Hospital of the Federal University of Sao Carlos to support an appropriate local empirical treatment. A retrospective cross-sectional study was conducted from October 2018 to October 2020. Data from 1,528 positive urine cultures for bacterial pathogens and antibiograms were tabulated. Bacterial species prevalence and their resistance profile were analyzed and compared by sex and age. For Gram-negative fermenting bacteria, resistance rates were compared between patients with previous hospitalization and the total of infections caused by this group. For comparisons, the Chi-square test was performed, using Fisher’s exact test when necessary (BioEstat program, adopting p ≤ 0.05). A multivariate analysis was applied to assess the effect of the studied variables in predicting multidrug resistance. Infections were more prevalent in women and older adults. Gram-negative bacteria represented 90.44% of total cultures. In both sexes, E. coli prevalence was significantly higher in adults compared with older adults (p < 0.0001). For several antibiotics, resistance rates were higher in the older adults compared with other ages and in patients with Gram-negative fermenting infections and previous hospitalization compared with the total of infections by this group of bacteria. The closer to the hospitalization, the higher the number of antibiotics with superior resistance rates. Resistance rates for aminoglycosides, carbapenems, ceftazidime, nitrofurantoin, piperacillin+tazobactam, and fosfomycin were less than 20%, considered adequate for empirical treatment. Only hospitalization in the previous 90 days was statistically significant in predicting infections by multidrug-resistant bacteria. Resumo O semiárido brasileiro é o novo destino do capital global em energias renováveis, diante da crise ambiental. Esse fato traz como consequência a expansão das bases da acumulação de capital: extração de mais-valor da força de trabalho, apossamento de terras dos camponeses e concentração fundiária. Para discutir essa problemática, os objetivos do presente texto são: a) apontar as novas particularidades da questão agrária ante a expansão dos parques eólicos; b) analisar o processo de desapossamento de terras dos agricultores; e c) apresentar a relação dos contratos de arrendamento com a renda da terra. Para isso, realizamos uma revisão de literatura sobre os temas da privatização dos bens comuns, em particular das terras para a produção de energia eólica, buscando explicar como a privatização sobre bens comuns, particularmente a força dos ventos, implica estratégias legais de redução de direitos e de serviços básicos a direitos exclusivos de propriedade privada. Abstract The leasing of land for wind power production is the subject analyzed in this work, precisely the control exercised by multinationals of the exploration rights from peasants’ lands. Taking in consideration that the semi-arid region of Brazil is the new destination for the global capital in renewable energies, given the environmental crises, the research presents its relevance for the study of wind farms. The main problem is that this expansion copies the foundations of the primitive accumulation of capital: extraction of surplus value from the labor force, land grabbing of peasants and land concentration. The goals go from pointing out the new singularities of the agrarian situation in face of the expansion of wind farms to analyze the process of dispossession of land from farmers and to show the link between lease contracts and land profit. ABSTRACT BACKGROUND: The cause of oropharyngeal dysphagia in patients with coronavirus disease (COVID-19) can be multifactorial and may underly limitations in swallowing rehabilitation. OBJECTIVE: Analyze the factors related to dysphagia in patients with COVID-19 immediately after orotracheal extubation and the factors that influence swallowing rehabilitation. DESIGN AND SETTING: A retrospective study. METHODS: The presence of dysphagia was evaluated using the American Speech-Language Hearing Association National Outcome Measurement System (ASHA NOMS) scale and variables that influenced swallowing rehabilitation in 140 adult patients who required invasive mechanical ventilation for >48 h. RESULTS: In total, 46.43% of the patients scored 1 or 2 on the ASHA NOMS (severe dysphagia) and 39.29% scored 4 (single consistency delivered orally) or 5 (exclusive oral diet with adaptations). Both the length of mechanical ventilation and the presence of neurological disorders were associated with lower ASHA NOMS scores (odds ratio [OR]: 0.80, 95% confidence interval [CI]: 0.74–0.87 P < 0.05; and OR: 0.13, 95% CI: 0.61–0.29; P < 0.05, respectively). Age and the presence of tracheostomy were negatively associated with speech rehabilitation (OR: 0.92; 95% CI: 0.87–−0.96; OR: 0.24; 95% CI: 0.80–−0.75), and acute post-COVID-19 kidney injury requiring dialysis and lower scores on the ASHA NOMS were associated with longer time for speech therapy outcomes (β: 1.62, 95% CI, 0.70–3.17, P < 0.001; β: −1.24, 95% CI: −1.55–−0.92; P < 0.001). CONCLUSION: Prolonged orotracheal intubation and post-COVID-19 neurological alterations increase the probability of dysphagia immediately after extubation. Increased age and tracheostomy limited rehabilitation. Aim To evaluate the surface roughness and color stability of bulk-fill resin composites after simulated toothbrushing with whitening dentifrices. The radioactive/relative dentin abrasion (RDA) and radioactive/relative enamel abrasion (REA) of dentifrices were also assessed. Methods Specimens (n=10) of Tetric N Ceram Bulk Fill (TNCB), Filtek One Bulk Fill (FOB) resin composites, and Z100(Control) were prepared using a cylindrical Teflon matrix. Surface roughness (Ra, μm) was assessed by a roughness meter and the color evaluations (ΔEab, ΔE00, WID) were performed using a digital spectrophotometer based on the CIELAB system. Three measurements were performed per sample, before and after simulated toothbrushing with 3D Oral-B White Perfection (3DW) and Black is White (BW) dentifrices. The abrasivity (REA and RDA values) of the used dentifrices was also determined by the Hefferren abrasivity test. Results The Ra values increased significantly in all resin composites after 3DW and BW toothbrushing. The acceptable threshold color varied among resin composites, and TNCB and Z100 presented the highest ΔEab and ΔE00 for BW dentifrice. The 3DW dentifrice was significantly more abrasive than BW dentifrice on enamel and dentin. Conclusions simulated toothbrushing with tested whitening dentifrices increased the surface roughness at acceptable levels. Objective: Fertility preservation is a priority in oncology for female cancer patients. However, there is a lack of communication between infertility specialists and oncologists. This study aimed to evaluate infertility specialists’ perceptions and experiences regarding fertility preservation. Methods: Conduct an online survey to profile infertility specialists. Participants were infertility affiliated with the Brazilian Federation of Gynecology and Obstetrics Associations (FEBRASGO). The specialists received an online survey, which response rate were 30.9%, most of whom were in southern and southeastern. The survey consisted on 14 questions about the infertility specialists’ location, techniques in clinical practice, treatment successful rate, patients idea, etc. Results: The average experience in human reproduction were 15.5 ± 10.2 years (mean ± standard deviation, range 1-40). Among reproductive-aged female cancer patients recommended for fertility preservation, 60.3 ± 28.8% (range 10-100%) underwent preservation procedures. Main barriers were cost (41%), oncologists’ knowledge or acceptance (35%) and accessibility (9%). Most infertility specialists (58%) considered 40 years the limit for fertility preservation. Leukemia, lymphoma, breast and ovarian cancers were prioritized for fertility preservation, while lung, thyroid, gastric, and brain cancers were less relevant. Conclusion: This is the first Brazilian study about infertility specialists’ perceptions on oncology patients access to fertility preservation. These patients primarily receive treatment in the public health system, while infertility specialists mainly work in the private healthcare. Método: Estudo metodológico desenvolvido em duas etapas: (1) identificação dos conceitos relevantes para a prioridade de saúde escolhida a partir da literatura; (2) mapeamento cruzado dos conceitos identificados com os conceitos constantes na CIPE® versão 2019/2020. Resultados: Foram extraídos 9460 termos a partir da literatura. Desse total, 4065 termos foram excluídos por não estarem relacionados ao objeto de estudo e 5395 foram submetidos à técnica de mapeamento, resultando em 290 termos constantes na CIPE® e 5134 termos não constantes. Os termos constantes foram classificados nos eixos: 120 no eixo Foco, 13 no Julgamento, 48 no Ação, 23 no Localização, 38 no Meios, oito no Tempo e um no Cliente, além disso foram mapeados 36 diagnósticos/resultados de enfermagem e três intervenções de enfermagem. ABSTRACT Objectives: To build a specialized nursing terminology for the care of people with respiratory diseases and Covid-19 or who have respiratory diseases after Covid-19, based on ICNP®. Method: Methodological study developed in two stages: (1) identification of the relevant concepts for the health priority chosen from the literature; (2) cross-mapping of the identified concepts with the concepts contained in ICNP® version 2019/2020. Results: 9460 terms were extracted from the literature, of which 4065 terms were excluded because they were not related to the object of study and 5395 were submitted to the mapping technique, resulting in 290 constant terms in the ICNP® and 5134 non-constant terms. The constant terms were classified into the following axes: 120 in the Focus axis, 13 in Judgment, 48 in Action, 23 in Location, 38 in Means, eight in Time and one in Client. In addition, 36 nursing diagnoses/outcomes and three nursing interventions were mapped. Conclusion: The terminology will support the quality of care provided by the nursing team and the manual and electronic recording of patient data. Caracterizada por sintomas que permanecem ou aparecem pela primeira vez em até três meses após a infecção pelo SARS-CoV-2, a COVID longa pode se manifestar de diferentes formas, inclusive entre casos não hospitalizados ou assintomáticos. Nesse sentido, este artigo apresenta um panorama da COVID longa no Brasil, com ênfase no diagnóstico, nos sintomas e nos desafios para a nova gestão da saúde. Foram utilizados dados de um estudo realizado com objetivo de investigar a COVID longa em pessoas acometidas pela COVID-19, com dados originais de um inquérito com indivíduos brasileiros adultos (18 anos ou mais) que tiveram COVID-19, coletados entre 14 de março e 14 de abril de 2022, por meio de questionário divulgado em redes sociais. O questionário abordou características sociodemográficas, histórico de infecções por COVID-19, vacinação contra a doença, investigação da situação de saúde e da qualidade de vida antes e após a COVID-19, além da busca e acesso a tratamento. Dos 1.728 respondentes, 720 foram considerados elegíveis para a análise. Desses, 496 (69%) tiveram COVID longa. Os indivíduos com COVID longa reportaram manifestações clínicas como ansiedade (80%), perda de memória (78%), dor generalizada (77%), falta de atenção (75%), fadiga (73%), queda de cabelo (71%), alterações de sono (70%), alterações de humor (62%), indisposição (60%) e dor nas articulações (59%). A maioria procurou os serviços de saúde durante e após a fase aguda de COVID-19 (94% e 80%, respectivamente), o que representa a necessidade de estruturar o sistema de saúde para atender esses pacientes. Characterized by symptoms that remain or appear for the first time within three months of SARS-CoV-2 infection, long COVID can manifest itself in different ways, including in non-hospitalized or asymptomatic cases. Thus, this study offers an overview of long COVID in Brazil, especially of its diagnosis, symptoms, and challenges for new health management. Data from a study that investigated long COVID in people affected by COVID-19 were used. These original data stem from a survey with adult Brazilians (aged 18 years or older) who had COVID-19 that collected information from March 14 to April 14, 2022, by a questionnaire on social media. The questionnaire addressed sociodemographic characteristics, history of COVID-19 infections, vaccination against the disease, investigation of health status and quality of life before and after COVID-19, and search and access to treatment. Of the 1,728 respondents, 720 were considered eligible for analysis, of which 496 (69%) had long COVID. Individuals with long COVID reported clinical manifestations such as anxiety (80%), memory loss (78%), generalized pain (77%), lack of attention (75%), fatigue (73%), hair loss (71%), sleep changes (70%), mood swings (62%), malaise (60%), and joint pain (59%). Abstract Introduction The voice and hearing can be affected to different degrees by aging, which can cause communication difficulties for elderly people. Vocal production requires effective temporal auditory processing at central levels within the nervous system, which can be compromised by the aging process. Objective To analyze the correlation between voice and temporal auditory processing in older adults. Materials and Methods A total of 40 elderly people aged 60 years or older were subdivided into 2 groups according to the presence or absence of vocal symptoms measured by the Voice Symptom Scale. All of the participants were submitted to auditory temporal tests, vocal self-assessment, and acoustic and perceptual auditory analyses of voice. Results Most of the subjects assessed had decreased voice intensity and normal variability in terms of vocal quality. The performance was normal in the Pitch Pattern Sequence test and altered in the Random Gap Detection test. In the Masking Period Pattern test, the detection thresholds for the target signal were increased in the presence of masking in different temporal target signal positions. Only pitch differed between the two groups. There were differences between the genders regarding frequency, shimmer, the overall severity of the alteration, and roughness. There was a correlation regarding temporal resolution ability and the overall severity of the alteration and roughness of the voice. Abstract There is growing interest in using cannabinoids across various clinical scenarios, including pain medicine, leading to the disregard of regulatory protocols in some countries. Legislation has been implemented in Brazil, specifically in the state of São Paulo, permitting the distribution of cannabinoid products by health authorities for clinical purposes, free of charge for patients, upon professional prescription. Thus, it is imperative to assess the existing evidence regarding the efficacy and safety of these products in pain management. In light of this, the São Paulo State Society of Anesthesiology (SAESP) established a task force to conduct a narrative review on the topic using the Delphi method, requiring a minimum agreement of 60% among panelists. The study concluded that cannabinoid products could potentially serve as adjuncts in pain management but stressed the importance of judicious prescription. Nevertheless, this review advises against their use for acute pain and cancer-related pain. In other clinical scenarios, established treatments should take precedence, particularly when clinical protocols are available, such as in neuropathic pain. Only patients exhibiting poor therapeutic responses to established protocols or demonstrating intolerance to recommended management may be considered as potential candidates for cannabinoids, which should be prescribed by physicians experienced in handling these substances.
