ABSTRACT In the commercial culture of Nile tilapia (Oreochromis niloticus), monosex, all-male populations obtained through steroid sex reversal is the most commercially used method to eliminate unwanted reproduction and increase final productive and economic yield. However, the rapid growth of Nile tilapia culture has led, in some regions, to an increase in infectious diseases and mortality in all stages of commercial culture. To reduce this, without the abuse of antibiotics or similar substances, feed additives are currently used in all stages, including the fry period, during the sex reversal process. The objective of this work was to evaluate the effect of synthetic steroid Fluoxymesterone (FM) at various concentrations in combination with a commercial Blend of additives (BA) on the percentage of males, growth, and survival of Nile tilapia fry. Five treatments (FM20, FM5+BA, FM10+BA, FM20+BA, and BA+FM20) and a control group were evaluated. Treatments differ in the order in which the commercial blend (2 g) was added and the FM concentration (5, 10, and 20 mg). The feeding trial lasted for 30 days using a sexually undifferentiated population of Nile tilapia. The results showed a decrease in the percentage of males in all treatments supplemented with the BA, compared to the FM20 treatment (containing 20 mg without BA). Growth and survival were positively affected by the inclusion of the BA in all treatments, showing higher values than those observed in the control group. Further studies are necessary to determine the FM-BA interaction.

ABSTRACT Objective. To identify women’s technological capabilities and describe their appropriation and use of technology in a community in a vulnerable area of Colombia. Method. Observational cross-sectional study conducted in the subregion of Urabá, Colombia. A survey was conducted in primary health care centers, in which 1478 women between 18 and 49 years of age responded to questions about their technological capabilities, their experience with the use of web-based information, and their appropriation of technology. Results. Access to and use of information and communication technologies (ICTs) varied according to age, educational level, and socioeconomic stratum, with observed differences in preferences and critical consumption of information. Conclusion. The women in this study faced multiple access barriers to appropriate use of ICTs for health promotion. The appropriation of these tools in Colombia, specifically in the Urabá subregion, is a complex challenge that requires a comprehensive and multidimensional approach.

RESUMO Objetivo. Identificar as capacidades tecnológicas e descrever a apropriação de uso em uma comunidade de mulheres em uma área vulnerável na Colômbia. Método. Estudo observacional transversal realizado na sub-região de Urabá (Colômbia). Realizou-se uma pesquisa com 1478 mulheres de 18 a 49 anos em centros de atenção primária à saúde sobre suas capacidades tecnológicas, experiências com o uso de informações disponíveis na internet e apropriação da tecnologia. Resultados. O acesso e uso das tecnologias da informação e da comunicação (TIC) variaram de acordo com a idade, a escolaridade e o nível socioeconômico, com diferenças nas preferências quanto às informações e ao consumo crítico de informações. Conclusão. O estudo demonstra que as mulheres enfrentam várias barreiras de acesso ao uso adequado das TIC para a promoção da saúde. A apropriação dessas ferramentas na Colômbia, especificamente na sub-região de Urabá, é um desafio complexo que demanda uma abordagem integral e multidimensional.

RESUMEN Objetivo. Identificar las capacidades tecnológicas y describir la apropiación de uso en una comunidad de mujeres de una zona en condiciones de vulnerabilidad de Colombia. Método. Estudio transversal observacional realizado en la subregión de Urabá (Colombia). Se realizó una encuesta a 1 478 mujeres de entre 18 y 49 años en centros de atención primaria en salud acerca de sus capacidades tecnológicas, experiencia con el uso de la información alojada en la red y apropiación de la tecnología. Resultados. El acceso y uso de las tecnologías de la información y la comunicación (TIC) variaban según la edad, el nivel educativo y el estrato socioeconómico, con diferencias en preferencias en cuanto a la información y el consumo crítico de esta. Conclusión. En este estudio, las mujeres en nuestro estudio enfrentan múltiples barreras de acceso para el uso apropiado de las TIC para la promoción de la salud. La apropiación de estas herramientas en Colombia, específicamente en la subregión de Urabá, es un desafío complejo que requiere un enfoque integral y multidimensional.

Resumen Introducción: La duración del trabajo de parto y del puerperio inmediato se afectan por factores obstétricos y maternofetales. Las intervenciones para brindar analgesia obstétrica pudieran prolongar el tiempo total de estancia hospitalaria. Objetivo: Caracterizar el procedimiento de analgesia obstétrica y describir los tiempos entre analgesia y parto y vigilancia posparto en maternas sanas. Métodos: Estudio descriptivo observacional. Se midieron los tiempos entre analgesia y parto y vigilancia posparto en gestantes sanas, cuya vía final del parto fuera vaginal con indicación y aplicación de alguna técnica de analgesia neuroaxial. Resultados: Se incluyeron 226 pacientes. La mediana del tiempo de analgesia hasta el parto fue de 4 horas (RIC 3-7); el 50,7 % (n = 114) recibió analgesia temprana (técnica neuroaxial a ≤ 4 centímetros de dilatación cervical), de las cuales el 48,2 % (n = 109) tuvo un tiempo de analgesia hasta el parto mayor al esperado. La mediana de dilatación cervical al momento del abordaje del neuroeje fue de 4 centímetros (RIC 4-6) y la técnica epidural fue la más frecuente, 92,9 % (n = 210). La mediana de tiempo de vigilancia posparto fue de 20 horas (RIC 15-27). Conclusiones: La mitad de las pacientes incluidas recibió analgesia temprana y cerca de la mitad tardó más de lo esperado en finalizar su gestación. El tiempo de vigilancia posparto fue acorde con lo establecido por el Ministerio de Salud y con la tendencia actual de una vigilancia posparto corta que apunte a un alta temprana y sus beneficios.

Abstract Introduction: The duration of labor and the immediate puerperium are affected by obstetric and maternal-fetal factors. Interventions to provide obstetric analgesia may prolong the hospital stay. Objective: To characterize the procedure for obstetric analgesia and describe the time elapsed between analgesia and delivery and postpartum surveillance in healthy mothers. Methods: Observational, descriptive trial. The time elapsed between analgesia and delivery, and postpartum surveillance were measured in healthy pregnant women with vaginal delivery and a prescription of a neuraxial analgesia technique. Results: 226 patients were included. The mean time elapsed between analgesia an delivery was 4 hours (IQR 3-7). 50.7 % (n=114) received early analgesia (neuraxial technique with ≤ 4 centimeters of cervical dilatation), of which 48.2 % (n = 109) experienced a duration of analgesia until delivery longer than expected. The mean cervical dilatation at the time of the neuraxial approach was 4 centimeters (IQR 4-6) and the epidural technique was the most frequently used - 92.9 % (n = 210). The mean postpartum surveillance was 20 hours (IQR 15-27). Conclusions: Half of the patients included received early analgesia and around fifty percent of them took longer than expected in completing delivery. The postpartum surveillance time was consistent with the provisions of the Ministry of Health and with the current trend of a short postpartum surveillance aimed at early hospital discharge and the benefits thereof.
