RESUMO Objetivo: descrever a condição miofuncional orofacial global de pacientes com traumatismos faciais e analisar aspectos posturais e de mobilidade relacionados à função deglutição em diferentes etapas de recuperação. Métodos: estudo analítico e transversal. 36 participantes, idade entre 19 e 67 anos. Realizada em cinco etapas (D1, D2, D3, D4 e D5): oitavo ao sexagésimo dia após trauma. Utilizou-se o Protocolo de Avaliação Miofuncional Orofacial com Escores (AMIOFE) adaptado. Foi realizada análise estatística descritiva e inferencial, utilizando os testes t-Student pareado ou teste Wilcoxon pareado e o teste de Friedman na comparação entre as cinco avaliações. A margem de erro utilizada na decisão dos testes estatísticos foi de 5%. Resultados: nos movimentos labiais a maioria (69,4%) tinha inabilidade severa. Nos movimentos da língua, as duas categorias relacionadas, falta de precisão e inabilidade severa, apresentaram percentuais de 52,8% e 41,7%, respectivamente. Na movimentação da mandíbula, a maioria (83,3%) apresentava inabilidade severa. No escore AMIOFE, a mediana foi menos elevada em D1 (29,00), seguida por D2 (33,00), mais elevada em D5 (46,00) e variou de 39,50 a 41,00 nas outras duas avaliações com diferenças significativas entre: D1 diferente de D3, D4 e D5 e D2 diferente de D5. Conclusão: houve evolução positiva espontânea da condição miofuncional orofacial ao longo das avaliações. Contudo, é necessária atenção dos profissionais envolvidos. ABSTRACT Purpose: to describe the global orofacial myofunctional condition of patients presented with facial trauma and analyze postural and mobility aspects related to swallowing function at different stages of recovery. Methods: an analytical and cross-sectional study with 36 participants, aged 19 to 67 years, conducted in five stages (D1, D2, D3, D4, and D5), on the 8th to 60th day after trauma, using the adapted Orofacial Myofunctional Evaluation Protocol with Scores (OMES). The median OMES score was lowest in D1 (29.00), followed by D2 (33.00), highest in D5 (46.00), and ranged from 39.50 to 41.00 in the other two evaluations, with significant differences between D1 and D3, D4 and D5, and D2 and D5. Conclusion: the orofacial myofunctional condition progressed, spontaneously and positively, throughout the evaluations. However, attention is needed from the professionals involved. Abstract SARS-CoV-2 has high human-human transmission rate. The aerosols and saliva droplets are the main contamination source. Thus, it is crucial to point out that dental practitioners become a high-risk group of contagion by SARS-CoV-2. Based on this, protocols have been recommended to avoid cross-contamination during dental care; however, appropriate evidence has not yet been established. Objective Our study sought to make a screening, by in silico analysis, of the potential of mouth rinses used in dental practices to prevent the dental workers' contamination by SARS-CoV-2. Methodology Multiple sequence comparisons and construction of the phylogenetic tree were conducted using the FASTA code. Therefore, molecular docking investigation between SARS-CoV-2 proteins (Main Protease, Spike Glycoprotein, Non-structure Protein, and Papain-like Protease) and molecules used in dental practices (chlorhexidine digluconate, hydrogen peroxide, cetylpyridinium chloride, povidone-iodine, gallic acid, β-cyclodextrin, catechin, and quercetin) was performed using AutoDock Vina. Moreover, 2D interactions of the complex protein-ligand structure were analyzed by Ligplot+. Results The obtained results showed a remarkable affinity between SARS-CoV-2 proteins and all tested compounds. The chlorhexidine digluconate, catechin, and quercetin presented a higher affinity with SARS-CoV-2. Conclusions The overall results allowed us to suggest that chlorhexidine is the most suitable active compound in reducing the SARS-CoV-2 salivary load due to its better binding energy. However, in vivo studies should be conducted to confirm their clinical use.

Resumo Objetivo Estimar a prevalência do deficit cognitivo e verificar associações com variáveis sociodemográficas e de saúde em idosos de Unidades Básicas de Saúde (UBSs) de uma cidade no interior do nordeste brasileiro. Método Estudo transversal de prevalência e associação a respeito da população idosa. Os instrumentos utilizados para coleta dos dados foram Miniexame do Estado Mental (função cognitiva), Escala de Depressão Geriátrica Abreviada (sintomas depressivos), Escala de Lawton (capacidade funcional), Miniavaliação Nutricional (estado nutricional) e teste Timed Get Up and Go (risco de quedas). A associação bivariada entre o deficit cognitivo e as variáveis independentes foi avaliada pelo teste qui-quadrado. A análise multivariada foi feita usando um modelo de regressão logística com as razões de prevalência (RP) e intervalo de confiança de 95% (IC95%). Resultados Foram avaliados 818 idosos. A prevalência de deficit cognitivo foi de 65,9% (IC95%=62,50 - 69,10). Ao compor o modelo de análise multivariada, verificou-se maior ocorrência de deficit cognitivo em indivíduos mais velhos (RP=1,48; IC95%=1,07-2,05), funcionalmente dependentes (RP=3,27; IC95%=2,01-5,10), analfabetos (RP=1,66; IC95%=1,15-2,40) e com risco de desnutrição ou desnutridos (RP=2,09; IC95%=1,47-2,96). Conclusão O presente trabalho evidenciou alta prevalência de deficit cognitivo e que foi associada à idade, escolaridade, capacidade funcional e estado nutricional. É possível questionar se isso se deve à grande quantidade de pessoas com comprometimento cognitivo leve sem demência com remissão posterior dos sintomas, ou pela ocorrência de demência de início precoce.

Abstract Objective To estimate the prevalence of cognitive deficit and verify associations with sociodemographic and individual health variables in senior patients from units in the primary health system. Method Prevalence and association study about the elderly population. The instruments used were the Mini-Mental State Examination (cognitive function), Shorten Geriatric Depression Scale (depression symptoms), Lawton Scale (functional capacity), Mini-Nutritional Assessment (nutritional state), and Timed Up and Go Test (fall risk). The association between cognitive deficit and independent variables was verified by the Chi-square test. Multivariate analysis was performed using a logistic regression model with the prevalence ratio (PR) and 95% confidence interval (95%CI). Results The data were collected from 818 old-aged patients. The cognitive deficit had a prevalence of 65.9% (95%CI= 62.50-69.10). In the multivariate analysis model, it was verified a larger occurrence of cognitive deficit individuals, with risks of malnutrition (PR=2.09; CI95%=1.47-2.96), illiteracy (PR=1.66; 95%CI=1.15-2.40), dependents (PR=3.27; 95%CI=2.01-5.10), and with more than 70 years old (PR=1.48; 95%CI=1.07-2.05). Conclusion The present study showed a high prevalence of cognitive deficit and was associated with age, education, functional capacity, and nutritional status. It is possible to question if it is caused by the big amount of people with mild cognitive impairment without dementia with posterior remission of the symptoms, or by the occurrence of early start dementia.

Este estudo objetivou verificar se a incorporação da equipe de saúde bucal no Programa Saúde da Família (PSF) gerou uma maior utilização dos serviços odontológicos no Município de Natal, Rio Grande do Norte, Brasil. Tomou-se como referência 22 setores censitários, 11 inseridos em áreas cobertas pela saúde bucal no PSF há pelo menos um ano, emparelhados com base em critérios sócio-econômicos, com 11 setores de áreas não-cobertas. A amostra final constou de 4.604 indivíduos. Foram comparadas áreas cobertas pela saúde bucal no PSF (modelo 1) com áreas cobertas por unidades de PSF porém sem saúde bucal (modelo 2) e com áreas cobertas por unidades básicas de saúde tradicionais ou sem nenhuma cobertura (modelo 3). Os resultados mostraram que, nas áreas cobertas pelo modelo 1, 32% referiram assistência odontológica, sendo este resultado igual a 45,4% para o modelo 2 e 17,5% para o modelo 3 (p < 0,001). Analisando-se as faixas etárias, o modelo 1 supera o modelo 2 apenas na faixa de até 12 anos. Conclui-se, portanto, que a saúde bucal no PSF apresenta impacto positivo sobre o indicador avaliado somente quando comparada com áreas sem cobertura (modelo 3).

The aim of this study was to determine whether the incorporation of Oral Health Teams (OHT) into the Family Health Program (FHP) led to greater use of dental services in Natal, Rio Grande do Norte State, Brazil. Twenty-two census tracts were studied, 11 located in areas covered by the FHP for at least one year and paired according to socioeconomic criteria with 11 tracts in areas without coverage. The final sample consisted of 4,604 subjects. The areas covered by OHT in the FHP (model 1) were compared to areas covered by the FHP but without OHT (model 2) and to areas covered by traditional primary care services or without any coverage (model 3). In areas covered by model 1, 32% of the population used dental care, whereas in models 2 and 3 the rates were 45.4% and 17.5%, respectively (p < 0.001). With respect to age, model 1 only exceeded model 2 in the age bracket 12 years and under. The study concludes that OHT in the FHP only had a positive impact on the target indicator when compared to model 3.
