RESUMO Com o objetivo de determinar a presença de contaminantes emergentes em corpos aquáticos e avaliar respostas dos grupos dominantes da macrofauna bêntica foram amostrados sete pontos distribuídos ao longo de três rios de mananciais em três campanhas amostrais, na bacia do Alto Iguaçu, Brasil. Foram detectadas concentrações de etinilestradiol, fenofibrato, ibuprofeno e triclosan na água e no sedimento. A fim de correlacionar os padrões de distribuição e abundância da fauna bêntica com os contaminantes encontrados, uma análise de redundância (RDA) foi aplicada e mostrou relações positivas entre grupos taxonômicos indicadores de estresse (como Tubificinae) e alguns dos contaminantes emergentes (como ibuprofeno e etinilestradiol). A análise mostrou, também, que as variáveis mais influentes na distribuição da fauna eram exclusivamente antropogênicas, o que mostra que estes compostos podem ser nocivos e que os rios destinados ao abastecimento recebem cargas poluentes.

ABSTRACT To determine the presence of emergent contaminants in aquatic environments and to evaluate responses of the dominant taxa of benthic macrofauna, seven stations were sampled along three rivers that serve as public water suppliers in three sampling campaigns, in the Upper Iguassu Basin, Brazil. Concentrations of ethinylestradiol, fenofibrate, ibuprofen and triclosan were detected in the water and sediment. To correlate patterns of distribution and abundance benthic fauna with the various contaminants found a redundancy analysis (RDA) was applied and showed positive relationships between faunal groups, that indicate stress (such as Tubificinae), and emerging pollutants (such as ibuprofen and ethinylestradiol). The analysis also showed that the most influential variables in the distribution of the fauna were exclusively anthropogenic, which shows that these compounds can be harmful and that the rivers destined for the supply are receiving pollutant loads.

A biodigestão é uma alternativa atraente no tratamento de alguns resíduos gerados na agroindústria, pois além de tratar o resíduo, produz o biogás que pode ser utilizado na geração de energia. Este trabalho apresenta os resultados de digestão anaeróbia de soro de queijo utilizando água residual de suinocultura como inoculo. A biodigestão foi executada em batelada utilizando biorreatores com volume total de 2.350 mL. Para avaliar a eficiência do biodigestor, o biogás produzido foi coletado em gasômetro, a concentração de metano no biogás foi determinada utilizando kit de Análise de Biogás, da AlfaKit®. O projeto foi realizado utilizando duas temperaturas diferentes, sendo elas 32 e 26 ºC resultou na produção de 270 e 171 L (kg-sv-1)de biogás respectivamente. Os testes realizados mostram que existe um bom potencial para o uso de soro de queijo para a produção de biogás e posterior conversão deste em energia.

Digestion is an attractive alternative in the treatment of waste generated in the agricultural industry, as it treats waste and also produces biogas that can be used in power generation, resulting in both environmental and economic benefits. This study presents the results of anaerobic digestion of cheese whey using swine wastewater as inoculum. Digestion was performed using sequencing batch bioreactors with a total volume of 2.350 mL. In order to evaluate digester efficiency, biogas was collected in a gas meter. Methane concentration in the biogas was determined using a biogas analysis kit, by AlfaKit®. The project was carried out using two different temperatures, which were 32ºC and 26ºC, that resulted in the production of 270 and 171 L (kg-sv)-1 of biogas, respectively and a reduction of over 40% in volatile solids in both treatments. The tests show that there is a good potential for the use of whey in the production of biogas and its further conversion into energy.

ABSTRACT In Brazil there is a wide availability of residues, which have been used in the production of biogas and biofertilizers. The engine-generator by biogas is grid connected, and produce electricity for self-consumption and the surplus is inserted into the grid. The aim of the present study was to evaluate energetic efficiency and exhaust gas emission of two cases: two engine-generators sets of 100 kVA running on biogas, produced from residues of a poultry slaughterhouse unit (PSU) and swine fattening unit (SFU). Load variation in the engine-generator set was evaluated in the SMCP (system of protection and synchronism). There was an increase in the emission of nitrogen oxide, sulfur dioxide and exhaust gas temperature, in both cases. The elevation in the load of the engine-generator increased its global efficiency (mechanical plus electric), with levels between 6.12% with load of 10 kW and 20.91% with 70 kW. The average specific consumption of biogas in the load of 70 kW was 0.76 m3 kWh-1 in the swine fattening unit and 0.80 m3 kWh-1 in the slaughterhouse unit with load of 70 kW. The last results show an engine-generator on biogas of 100 kVA (load of 70 kW), spent an average of 1.4 m3 of biogas to produce 1.0 kWh of electricity.

O presente trabalho teve por objetivo realizar o processo de biodigestão anaeróbia de material plástico polimérico biodegradável à base de fécula de mandioca, utilizando-se de biodigestores de escala laboratorial com modo de operação batelada. Utilizou-se água residual estabilizada de suinocultura como matéria-prima e copos plásticos biodegradáveis produzidos a partir de fécula de mandioca para a produção de biogás. A experiência foi desenvolvida utilizando-se estufas em condição mesófila, ondese realizaram 4 tratamentos garantindo a entrada total de 0, 40, 120 e 200 g de material biodegradável nos reatores de cada tratamento, respetivamente. A partir dos resultados obtidos, pode-se concluir que polímeros biodegradáveis produzidos a partir de fécula de mandioca (PBM) apresentam elevada biodegradabilidade (taxas de remoção de STV e DQO de até 75,2% e 79,3% respetivamente) se submetidos a biodigestão anaeróbia em fase mesófila. A elevada produção de biogás em curto período temporal é outro fator a destacar observando-se produções de até 1274 ml gSTV-1. Pela característica de fácil degradabilidade do material, elevadas concentrações de PBM sob biodigestão podem proporcionar acidificação do reator pela elevada produção de ácidos voláteis como ocorrido nos reatores dos tratamentos de adição de 120 e 200g de PBM.

The present work aimed to perform the process of anaerobic digestion of biodegradable polymeric material based on cassava starch, by using laboratory-scale digesters running on batch operation. We used stabilized swine wastewater as raw material and degradable plastic cups made from cassava starch for the production of biogas. The experiment was carried out in greenhouses under mesophilic conditions. Four treatments were performed, received concentrations of 12.5, 37.5 and 62.5 g.L-1, which provided a total input of 40, 120 and 200 g of biodegradable material in the reactors of each treatment, respectively. From the partial results obtained, it was possible to conclude that biodegradable cassava starch-based polymers show high biodegradability when subjected to anaerobic digestion in mesophilic phase. The elevated production of biogas in a short time span is another remarkable factor. Due to the easy degradability of the material, high concentrations of polymeric material under digestion may cause reactor acidification with the increased production of volatile acids.
