ABSTRACT Objective: To investigate the methods used by dentists for diagnosis and treatment of dental caries lesions. Material and Methods: This cross-sectional study was developed by sending a validated questionnaire to dentists in the southeastern region of Brazil with questions about detection methods and the indicated procedures for treating lesions. Results: Three hundred and ninety-eight responses were identified after distributing the questionnaire. The state with the highest percentage of respondents was Espírito Santo (n=140). The respondents' mean time since dental school graduation was 12.9 years (±11.4). Regarding the diagnosis, 39.4% of the dentists used the explorer probe to detect occlusal lesions, 79.6% performed drying with an air jet, 65.8% of dentists performed biofilm removal and follow-up for active initial occlusal lesions, and 60.3% applied fluorides. For active caries lesions reaching the enamel dentinal junction, the dentists performed selective caries removal followed by restoration for both occlusal lesions (79.6%) and proximal lesions (78.1%). Conclusion: Visual-tactile and radiographic examinations were the detection methods of most dentists. A conservative approach was identified more frequently for initial, non-cavitated lesions and an operative approach for dentine tissue lesions. Conservative, non-invasive treatment still seems challenging for professionals when lesions reach the dentine tissue. Abstract Objectives In the clinical routine of pediatricians, height is the most reliable indicator for assessing growth. However, there are situations where it is not possible to measure this parameter directly, making the estimation of height or length a useful alternative. The main goal of this study is to identify which segmental measure, including upper arm length (UAL), tibial length (TL), and knee-heel length (KHL), provides the stature estimate that most closely approximates directly measured height in the study participants. Methods Analytical cross-sectional study of the anthropometric and segmental measures of 248 participants, aged 0 to 14 years old, using Stevenson's and Kihara's equations to estimate indirectly measured height. It is a cross-sectional study with cancer patients in the state of Mato Grosso. The prevalence of environmental and occupational exposure to pesticides was calculated as to the variables gender, age, macro-region, and education. Pesticide use per agricultural crops in liters was estimated, and a thematic map was constructed following the macro-region of the agricultural economy. Of the 998 patients, most were female (54.9%), aged between 50 and 69 years old (50.1%), had less than eight years of schooling (60.7%), and resided in the South-Central macro-region (55.4%). Regarding environmental and occupational exposure, 53.1% of the patients live or have lived in a municipality with agricultural plantations; 17.4% lived near crops; 43.4% worked in agriculture, livestock, or extractivism; and 22.9% worked or work directly with pesticides. Environmental and occupational exposure was higher in males, in the older age groups, schooling from 0 to 4 years, and in the macro-regions with higher pesticide use. The study concluded that environmental and occupational exposure among cancer patients is associated to sociodemographic characteristics and macro-regions of the agricultural economy.

ABSTRACT Tomato is an important economic crop due to its consumption and production worldwide. However, like other crops, it is susceptible to pathogens, being necessary agrochemicals to prevent diseases and improve the production of fruits. Among the sustainable alternatives to crop production, microbial inoculants are used as biofungicide and biostimulants for plant development. Thus, this work aimed to evaluate the biocontrol potential of seven Trichoderma spp. isolates (T1, T2, T3, T4, T15, T17, and T19) against tomato pathogens in vitro experiments, and their potential to improve tomato growth. The Trichoderma spp. antagonism was investigated against Alternaria sp. 003/09, Botrytis sp. 006/13, Fusarium sp. 007/09, and Stemphylium sp. A73. Dual culture, volatile, and diffusible compounds activity tests showed that all new Trichoderma spp. tested could reduce the mycelial growth of all tested pathogens, highlighting T15 and T17 isolates. Seed and soil inoculation revealed very contrasting results: Trichoderma sp. T17 showed a beneficial effect when inoculated in soil, reducing the percentage of yellowish leaves, and increasing dry weight and stem diameter. Inoculation of Trichoderma sp. RESUMO: O uso de nitrogênio (N) em ecossistemas pastoris leva ao aumento da produtividade, pois permite que a planta alongue suas folhas e, portanto, os herbívoros colham as folhas verdes. Porém, existem fontes de nitrogênio muito voláteis, que devem ser substituídas por nitrato de amônio, que é menos volátil e menos dependente da aplicação em dias chuvosos. Os tratamentos foram compostos por pastagens de capim-marandu, manejadas sob lotação contínua, na altura do dossel a 25 cm, com diferentes doses de N: 0, 75 e 150 kg ha-1 ano-1, na forma de nitrato de amônio (32% de N), com quatro repetições (piquetes), em delineamento inteiramente casualizado. A absorção de nitrogênio (54,9; 96,5; 113,8 kg N ha-1) e o índice nutricional de N (0,67; 0,98; 1,15) foram diferentes entre as doses de N, respectivamente, 0, 75 e 150 kg ha-1 ano-1. ABSTRACT: The use of nitrogen (N) in pastoral ecosystems leads to increased productivity, as it allows the plant to elongate its leaves and, therefore, grazing herbivores harvest the green leaves. However, there are very volatile N sources, which can be replaced by ammonium nitrate, which is less volatile and less dependent on the application in rainy days. The treatments are compound of Marandu palisade grass pastures managed under continuous stocking at a canopy height of 25 cm, with different levels of N fertilizer: 0, 75, and 150 kg ha-1year-1, as ammonium nitrate (32% of N), with four replicates (pastures) in a completely randomized design. ABSTRACT The project ‘One Health in the Pantanal: society’s participation in the emergency surveillance of zoonoses emergency as a post-fire effect in the territory and the formation of integrated strategies’ aimed to integrate institutional representations and local society; expand the use of Wildlife Health Information System (SISS-Geo) for fauna monitoring; identify priority areas for zoonosis surveillance and build paths involving One Health (OH). A webinar was held, highlighting the need for broader events with the participation of leaders in each of the chosen territories. Seminars and workshops were held in the states of Mato Grosso do Sul (MS), with the participation of health service managers from the Province of Santa Cruz, Bolivia, and Mato Grosso. The representation of different segments at the events enabled the articulation of citizens and local managers. In traditional communities, it was possible to address the impacts of the fires and provide the opportunity for these people to express their health priorities and demands, before and after the fires. The Synthesis Workshop held in Corumbá, MS allowed the feedback of results and integration with representatives from different institutions in Brazil and Bolivia, and prospecting and prioritization of illnesses to be incorporated into the OH model for the Pantanal and western border of Brazil.

RESUMO O projeto ‘Saúde Única no Pantanal: participação da sociedade na vigilância de emergência de zoonoses como efeito pós-incêndios no território e formação de estratégias integradas’ objetivou integrar representações institucionais e da sociedade local; ampliar o uso do Sistema de Informação em Saúde Silvestre (SISS-Geo) para o monitoramento da fauna; identificar áreas prioritárias para vigilância de zoonoses e construir caminhos envolvendo a Saúde Única (SU). Realizou webinário, apontando a necessidade de eventos mais amplos com a participação de lideranças em cada um dos territórios escolhidos. Foram executados seminários e oficinas nos estados de Mato Grosso do Sul (MS), com a participação de gestores do serviço de saúde da Província de Santa Cruz, Bolívia, e de Mato Grosso. A representatividade dos diferentes segmentos nos eventos possibilitou a articulação de cidadãos e gestores locais. Nas comunidades tradicionais, foi possível abordar os impactos dos incêndios e dar oportunidade para que essas pessoas manifestassem suas prioridades e demandas de saúde, antes e depois dos incêndios. A Oficina Síntese realizada em Corumbá, MS possibilitou a devolutiva dos resultados e a integração com representantes de diferentes instituições do Brasil e da Bolívia, além da prospecção e priorização de enfermidades a serem incorporadas em modelo de SU para o Pantanal e fronteira oeste do Brasil.

Abstract The present study aimed to investigate the socioeconomic and obstetric characteristics of adolescent mothers and the complications they cause to maternal and neonatal health. This baseline data analysis of the MINA-Brazil birth cohort was conducted in the municipality of Cruzeiro do Sul, state of Acre, Brazil. The chi-square test was used to compare characteristics of adolescent and adult postpartum women, and multiple Poisson regression models with robust variance were used to assess associated factors. Among the postpartum women, 26.2% (95%CI: 24.0-28.4) were adolescents. Factors associated with childbirth in adolescence included: nine years or less of schooling (adjPR:1.36; 95%CI: 1.14-1.61), belongs to the lowest quartiles of the wealth index (1st quartile: adjPR:1.40; 95%CI: 1.08-1.80) (2nd quartile: adjPR:1.37; 95%CI: 1.08-1.74), primigravidae (adjPR:3.69; 95%CI: 2.98-4.57), low pre-pregnancy BMI (adjPR:1.28; CI95%: 1.04-1.57), urinary tract infection during pregnancy (adjPR:1.25; CI95%: 1.07-1.46) and less than six prenatal consultations (adjPR:1.42; 95%CI: 1.21-1.66). Poverty, little schooling, primigravidae, low pre-pregnancy BMI, urinary tract infection during pregnancy and few prenatal consultations were associated with childbirth during adolescence in a municipality in the Northern region of Brazil.

Abstract We investigated the Biogran on bone repair and metabolism at several time-intervals upon grafting into rat tibia artificial defects. The biomaterial was thoroughly characterized in vitro, and its dissolution behavior upon immersion was assessed in simulated body fluid (SBF) solution for 1, 3, 7, 14, and 30 days. Biogran was also assessed by in vitro hydroxyapatite formation in SBF solution, which is a marker for bioactive behavior. In vivo, distal and proximal bone defects were performed in the Wistar rat's right tibia and filled according to the experimental groups: I) negative control, no filling; II) positive control, 10 mg of autogenous bone; and III) 10 mg of Biogran. Animals were euthanized at 1, 2, 3, 4, 7, and 10 weeks. Bone neoformation was analyzed using histomorphometry (proximal defect), and local levels of bone morphogenetic protein 2 (BMP-2) were measured using the ELISA assay (distal defect). In vitro, the Biogran sample showed a fast dissolution rate within the first 7 days, parallel to the formation of the hydroxyapatite layer. In vivo, the sample was progressively resorbed at a higher rate within the first month until it became almost absent at week 10th. The sample presented similar or higher bone neoformation concerning the autogenous bone. BMP-2 levels were sustained in the Biogran group (around 200 pg/mg) and detected until the last experimental time with a significant difference compared with the controls. Abstract The present study aimed to investigate the socioeconomic and obstetric characteristics of adolescent mothers and the complications they cause to maternal and neonatal health. This baseline data analysis of the MINA-Brazil birth cohort was conducted in the municipality of Cruzeiro do Sul, state of Acre, Brazil. The chi-square test was used to compare characteristics of adolescent and adult postpartum women, and multiple Poisson regression models with robust variance were used to assess associated factors. Among the postpartum women, 26.2% (95%CI: 24.0-28.4) were adolescents. Factors associated with childbirth in adolescence included: nine years or less of schooling (adjPR:1.36; 95%CI: 1.14-1.61), belongs to the lowest quartiles of the wealth index (1st quartile: adjPR:1.40; 95%CI: 1.08-1.80) (2nd quartile: adjPR:1.37; 95%CI: 1.08-1.74), primigravidae (adjPR:3.69; 95%CI: 2.98-4.57), low pre-pregnancy BMI (adjPR:1.28; CI95%: 1.04-1.57), urinary tract infection during pregnancy (adjPR:1.25; CI95%: 1.07-1.46) and less than six prenatal consultations (adjPR:1.42; 95%CI: 1.21-1.66). RESUMO O projeto ‘Saúde Única no Pantanal: participação da sociedade na vigilância de emergência de zoonoses como efeito pós-incêndios no território e formação de estratégias integradas’ objetivou integrar representações institucionais e da sociedade local; ampliar o uso do Sistema de Informação em Saúde Silvestre (SISS-Geo) para o monitoramento da fauna; identificar áreas prioritárias para vigilância de zoonoses e construir caminhos envolvendo a Saúde Única (SU). Realizou webinário, apontando a necessidade de eventos mais amplos com a participação de lideranças em cada um dos territórios escolhidos. Foram executados seminários e oficinas nos estados de Mato Grosso do Sul (MS), com a participação de gestores do serviço de saúde da Província de Santa Cruz, Bolívia, e de Mato Grosso. A representatividade dos diferentes segmentos nos eventos possibilitou a articulação de cidadãos e gestores locais. Nas comunidades tradicionais, foi possível abordar os impactos dos incêndios e dar oportunidade para que essas pessoas manifestassem suas prioridades e demandas de saúde, antes e depois dos incêndios. Abstract The current investigation aimed to explore the effects of Myrciaria dubia liquid extract (MDLE) as the primary component of an extender for breeder rooster semen over different periods at room temperature. Fifteen breeder roosters (40 weeks of age, average body weight of 2.05±0.12) with confirmed fertility were used. Employing a factorial design (3x4), the treatments consisted of semen in natura and two semen extenders (an experimental based on MDLE and a commercial) subjected to four periods at room temperature post-collection (5, 10, 15 and 20 minutes) with four replicates (tubes) each. All variables evaluated in this study yielding significant results (p<0.05). Analyzed individually, the experimental extender based on MDLE exhibited a linear reduction (p<0.05) in motility and vigor results, while it caused an increase in pH values and percentages of sperm defects evaluated. When compared with semen in natura and commercial extender, the efficiency of MDLE as a semen extender was inferior to that observed with the commercial extender and similar to the results observed with semen in natura. Nonetheless, the experimental extender based on MDLE yielded satisfactory results for up to 15 minutes of storage time. In conclusion, MDLE can be considered as an alternative for composing a roosters’ semen extender, maintaining sperm characteristics within acceptable limits for up to 15 minutes at room temperature. However, this experimental extender demonstrated lower efficiency than the commercial extender in maintaining the sperm quality at room temperature across all periods tested. Resumo Objetivou-se avaliar a eficiência de três soluções otológicas a base de extratos vegetais e adjuvantes no tratamento da otite externa canina. Foram desenvolvidas três diferentes soluções otológicas 1003 composta por extratos etanólicos de Triticum aestivum, Bixa orellana e Tris-EDTA,1004 composta por extratos etanólicos de Triticum aestivum, Bixa orellana e n-acetilcisteína, 1005 composta por Triticum aestivum, Bixa orellana, n-acetilcisteína e Tris-EDTA, como grupo controle foi utilizado produto comercial. Para o estudo foram selecionados 64 cães diagnosticados com otite externa, os quais foram divididos aleatoriamente em quatro grupos e todos os animais foram tratados durante sete dias. Durante o exame otológico realizado nos dias D0, D3 e D7, foram considerados os sinais clínicos de otalgia, prurido, odor, eritema e quantidade de cerúmen. Foram coletadas amostras para cultura bacteriana, fúngica e citologia antes e após os tratamentos. Após a avaliação, cada sinal clínico recebeu uma pontuação em escore de 0 a 3, o qual 0 era considerado ausente e 3 a forma mais grave de aparecimento, a partir desta pontuação foi gerado um somatório por animal e por grupo durante cada dia de avaliação. Abstract The objective was to evaluate the efficiency of three otological solutions based on plant extracts and adjuvants in treating canine otitis externa. Three different ear solutions were developed, composed of ethanolic extracts of Triticum aestivum, Bixa orellana, and Tris-EDTA, ethanolic extracts of Triticum aestivum, Bixa orellana, and N-acetylcysteine, and a combination of Triticum aestivum, Bixa orellana, N-acetylcysteine, and Tris-EDTA. RESUMO Objetivo: Analisar a associação da composição domiciliar com comportamentos de risco em adolescentes. Métodos: Estudo transversal, com amostra nacionalmente representativa de adolescentes brasileiros (n=159.245) de 13 a 17 anos, matriculados e frequentando regularmente do sétimo ao nono anos do ensino fundamental e da primeira à terceira séries do ensino médio, participantes da Pesquisa Nacional de Saúde do Escolar em 2019. Os comportamentos de risco foram prática insuficiente de atividade física, comportamento sedentário, consumo de bebida alcoólica, tabagismo, pior qualidade da dieta, omissão do café da manhã e não realização de refeições com pais/responsáveis. Nas análises, que foram estratificadas pelo tipo de escola (pública ou privada) e estimadas por modelos de regressão de Poisson, foram considerados os pesos amostrais e o desenho do estudo. Resultados: Adolescentes de escolas públicas e privadas, que moravam em domicílios monoparentais ou sem nenhum dos pais, apresentaram maior prevalência de consumo de bebida alcóolica, tabagismo, pior qualidade da dieta, omissão do café da manhã e não realização de refeições com pais/responsáveis comparados àqueles que moravam com ambos os pais. Adicionalmente, entre adolescentes de escolas públicas, aqueles que viviam em domicílios monoparentais apresentaram maior prevalência de comportamento sedentário. ABSTRACT Objective: To analyze the association of household composition with risk behaviors in Brazilian adolescents. Methods: Cross-sectional study, with a nationally representative sample of Brazilian adolescents (n=159,245) aged 13 to 17, enrolled and regularly attending the 7th to 9th year of elementary school and the 1st to 3rd year of high school, participants in the National Survey of School Health in 2019. The risk behaviors were: insufficient physical activity, sedentary behavior, alcohol consumption, smoking, poorer diet quality, skipping breakfast and not having meals with parents/guardians. In the analyses, the sampling weights and study design were considered, stratified by the type of school (public or private) and estimated using Poisson regression models. Results: Adolescents, from public and private schools, who lived in single-parent households or where parents were absent, had a higher prevalence of alcohol consumption, smoking, poorer diet quality, skipping breakfast and not eating meals with parents/guardians, compared to those who lived with both parents. Additionally, adolescents from public schools showed a higher prevalence of sedentary behavior than those from single-parent households. Adolescents from private schools had a higher prevalence of sedentary behavior among those who lived only with their mother and a higher prevalence of insufficient physical activity among those who lived without either parent. Abstract This study aimed to evaluate the pulp response to F18 and cobalt-doped F18 bioglass (F18Co) in comparison with calcium hydroxide (CH) after pulp capping. The maxillary first molars of 48 rats were divided into F18, F18Co, CH, and control (no intervention) groups. The pulp was exposed, the materials were placed, and the teeth were capped. After 7 and 15 days, the animals were euthanized for pulp evaluation and interleukin (IL) expression determination. Statistical analysis was carried out using the SigmaPlot® program (Systat Software Inc., for Windows, version 12.0). The data obtained in the analyses were subjected to the non-parametric Kruskal-Wallis test, followed by Dunn's test. For all tests, statistical significance was set at p < 0.05. The CH group exhibited mild to moderate inflammation, whereas the bioglass groups displayed moderate to severe inflammation, indicating a notable difference between the control and bioglass groups. At 7 days, both the CH and most of the bioglass specimens showed moderate disorganization. On day 15, CH displayed mildto-moderate disorganization, whereas F18 and F18Co exhibited significantly more moderate-to-severe disorganization. There were no significant differences in IL-6 and IL-10 expressions between groups at 7 days, but a noteworthy increase in IL-1β was observed in both CH and F18. After 15 days, there was a greater expression of IL-6 and IL-1β in the bioglass groups. No significant IL-10 expression was observed.
