Abstract Objective: To investigate the usefulness, reliability, quality, and content of Portuguese-language YouTube videos on COVID-19. Material and Methods: Three keywords selected on Google Trends were searched on YouTube, and the 60 first videos listed with each term were analyzed. Two calibrated researchers evaluated the reliability (DISCERN Modified Scale), the quality (Global Quality Score - GQS), and the usefulness of videos for the users (COVID-19 Specific Score - CSS). The number of views, likes, and engagement were also analyzed. The data were evaluated by the Mann-Whitney test and Spearman correlation (α=5%). Results: 59 videos were included. The average scores of quality, reliability, and usefulness were 3.0 (±1.1), 3.2 (± 0.8), and 1.5 (± 0.9), respectively. Two-thirds of the videos (64.4%) had low/moderate quality, and the majority (76.2%) were about signs and symptoms. The numbers of views (p=0.005), likes (p=0.006), and engagement (p=0.014) were significantly higher in moderate/good quality videos. The number of comments (p=0.007), duration of videos (p=0.004), and the DISCERN score (p<0.001) were significantly higher in videos made by health professionals. The general quality of the videos was positively correlated to the CSS scores, number of views, likes, and engagement (p<0.05). Abstract This essay aims to comprehend the intersections between racism, capitalism, and the social and health crisis of hunger and food insecurity that plagues Brazil in the context after the COVID-19 pandemic. For this, it uses the concepts of nutricide and food racism a, bringing them closer to the concepts of necropolitics and the genocide of the Black population in an understanding that the State fails to provide food security conditions to marginalized populations, especially peripheral ones in large municipalities, mostly Black people, under a logic of letting die and generating death of these segments by excluding public policies and/or potentially harmful policies to human nutrition. The approximation between public health, hunger, and racism may subsidize the elaboration of health, food, and social assistance policies, creating, at the same time, a territory of study and research in the field of food, nutrition, and health.

Resumo Este artigo é um ensaio que visa compreender as intersecções entre racismo, capitalismo e a crise social/sanitária da fome e insegurança alimentar que assola o Brasil no contexto posterior à pandemia de covid-19. Para tal, são utilizados os conceitos de nutricídio e racismo alimentar, aproximando-os das concepções de necropolítica e genocídio da população negra, em um entendimento que o Estado deixa de dar condições de segurança alimentar às populações marginalizadas. Isso ocorre, especialmente, nas regiões periféricas das grandes cidades, cujas populações, em sua maioria, são negras, e se tornam vítimas de uma lógica de “deixar morrer” e gerar morte desses segmentos com políticas públicas excludentes e/ou potencialmente danosas à alimentação e à nutrição humanas. Abstract Background A cost of illness (COI) study aims to evaluate the socioeconomic burden that an illness imposes on society as a whole. This study aimed to describe the resources used, patterns of care, direct cost, and loss of productivity due to systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) in Brazil. Methods This 12-month, cross-sectional, COI study of patients with SLE (ACR 1997 Classification Criteria) collected data using patient interviews (questionnaires) and medical records, covering: SLE profile, resources used, morbidities, quality of life (12-Item Short Form Survey, SF-12), and loss of productivity. Patients were excluded if they were retired or on sick leave for another illness. Direct resources included health-related (consultations, tests, medications, hospitalization) or non-health-related (transportation, home adaptation, expenditure on caregivers) hospital resources. Costs were calculated using the unit value of each resource and the quantity consumed. A gamma regression model explored cost predictors for patients with SLE. Results Overall, 300 patients with SLE were included (92.3% female, mean [standard deviation (SD)] disease duration 11.8 [7.9] years), of which 100 patients (33.3%) were on SLE-related sick leave and 46 patients (15.3%) had stopped schooling. Mean (SD) travel time from home to a care facility was 4.4 (12.6) hours. Antimalarials were the most commonly used drugs (222 [74.0%]). A negative correlation was observed between SF-12 physical component and SLE Disease Activity Index (- 0.117, p = 0.042), Systemic Lupus International CollaboratingClinics/AmericanCollegeofRheumatology Damage Index (- 0.115, p = 0.046), medications/day for multiple co-morbidities (- 0.272, p < 0.001), SLE-specific drugs/day (- 0.113, p = 0.051), and lost productivity (- 0.570, p < 0.001). For the mental component, a negative correlation was observed with medications/day for multiple co-morbidities (- 0.272, p < 0.001), SLE-specific medications/day (- 0.113, p = 0.051), and missed appointments (- 0.232, p < 0.001). Mean total SLE cost was US$3,123.53/patient/year (median [interquartile range (IQR)] US$1,618.51 [$678.66, $4,601.29]). Main expenditure was medication, with a median (IQR) cost of US$910.62 ($460, $4,033.51). Mycophenolate increased costs by 3.664 times (p < 0.001), and inflammatory monitoring (erythrocyte sedimentation rate or C-reactive protein) reduced expenditure by 0.381 times (p < 0.001). Conclusion These results allowed access to care patterns, the median cost for patients with SLE in Brazil, and the differences across regions driven by biological, social, and behavioral factors. Resumo Antecedentes A talomotomia por ultrassons focados - guiada por imagem de ressonância magnética (MRgFUS) surgiu recentemente como um tratamento inovador para pacientes com tremor essencial (TE) refratário ao tratamento médico. Objetivo Este estudo observacional retrospectivo tem como objetivo apresentar os resultados dos primeiros cinco pacientes com TE refratário à medicação submetidos ao tratamento com MRgFUS numa unidade médica pioneira em Portugal. Métodos Realizamos uma revisão retrospectiva dos dados clínicos dos cinco primeiros pacientes submetidos a talamotomia MRgFUS unilateral do núcleo ventral intermédio (Vim) para tratamento do TE medicamente refratário em nossa unidade médica. Resultados A idade média dos pacientes era de 65,4 (26–84) anos, e 60% eram do sexo masculino. Todos os pacientes tinham história familiar de TE. A duração média da doença foi de 17,4 anos, e todos eram destros. De acordo com a preferência individual, em 4 pacientes, a talamotomia foi realizada no lado esquerdo, e em um, no lado direito. A talamotomia por MRgFUS levou a melhorias significativas tanto na pontuação da escala de classificação clínica para tremor (CRST), de 62%, e na pontuação composta da CRST para a mão tratada, de 73%. Todos os pacientes apresentaram melhorias na funcionalidade e na qualidade de vida, de 52%. Não foram observados efeitos adversos graves e os que ocorreram durante e após o procedimento foram ligeiros e transitórios. Conclusão Os resultados iniciais da primeira unidade médica MRgFUS de Portugal indicam melhorias na qualidade de vida dos pacientes, com efeitos adversos ligeiros e transitórios. Abstract Background The magnetic resonance imaging-guided focused ultrasound (MRgFUS) has emerged as an innovative treatment for patients with medically refractory essential tremor (ET). Objective This retrospective observational study aims to present the results of the first five patients with medically refractory ET who underwent MRgFUS treatment at this pioneering medical unit in Portugal. Methods We conducted a retrospective chart review for the first five patients who underwent unilateral MRgFUS thalamotomy of the ventral intermediate (Vim) nucleus to treat medically refractory ET at our medical unit. Results The mean patient age was 65.4 (26–84) years, and 60% were male. All patients had a family history of ET. The mean duration of disease was 17.4 years (range 10–24 years), and their dominant hand was the right. According to personal preference, the thalamotomy was performed on the left side in four patients, and on the right side in one. The MRgFUS thalamotomy led to significant improvements in both the clinical rating scale for tremor (CRST) score, by 62%, and the CRST composite score for the treated hand, by 73%. All patients experienced improvements in functionality and quality of life, by 52%. No severe adverse events were observed, and those that did occur during and following the procedure were mild and transient. RESUMO Introdução: A complexidade do transplante de fígado requer uma equipe altamente qualificada, no qual o assistente social desempenha papel crucial para analisar e intervir na situação social dos candidatos. Objetivos: Investigar o perfil social dos candidatos ao transplante de fígado e relacioná-lo com as intervenções e reflexões efetuadas durante a avaliação social na Unidade de Transplante de Fígado do Hospital de Base. Métodos: Com base nos registros do Serviço Social, foram analisadas as informações dos candidatos avaliados entre janeiro de 2019 e dezembro de 2020. Este estudo quantitativo-qualitativo, retrospectivo, descritivo e documental, com observação participante, foi conduzido a partir de um panorama dialético. Resultados Durante o período de coleta de dados, obteve-se174 avaliações. ABSTRACT Introduction: The complexity of liver transplantation requires a highly qualified team, in which the social worker plays a crucial role in analyzing and intervening in the social situation of candidates. Objectives: To investigate the social profile of liver transplant candidates and relate it to the interventions and reflections made during the social assessment at the Hospital de Base Liver Transplant Unit. Methods: Based on the records of the Social Work, the information of the candidates evaluated between January 2019 and December 2020 was analyzed. This quantitative-qualitative, retrospective, descriptive and documentary study, with participant observation, was conducted from a dialectical perspective. Results: During the data collection period, 174 evaluations were obtained. RESUMO O envelhecimento populacional traz consigo inúmeros desafios, especialmente no que diz respeito à saúde cognitiva. Nesse contexto, fatores socioeconômicos como a educação têm recebido atenção especial em razão do seu papel na saúde cerebral. Objetivo: Este estudo teve como objetivo descrever o desempenho das funções executivas, variáveis de saúde mental e qualidade de vida entre idosos saudáveis em relação ao seu nível de educação. Métodos: Foi realizado um estudo descritivo e transversal com participantes de 60 anos ou mais. O protocolo de avaliação incluiu o Exame Cognitivo de Addenbrooke e Teste de Fluência Verbal (FAS), Testes de Trilhas A e B, Escala de Controle, Autonomia, Autorrealização e Prazer (CASP-19), bem como a Escala de Depressão, Ansiedade e Estresse. Resultados: Foram encontradas diferenças significativas no desempenho das funções executivas entre idosos com níveis mais elevados de educação. ABSTRACT Population aging brings about numerous challenges, particularly concerning cognitive health. In this context, socioeconomic factors such as education have received special attention due to their role in brain health. Objective: The aim of this study was to describe the performance of executive functions, mental health variables, and quality of life among healthy older adults in relation to their level of education. Methods: A descriptive, cross-sectional study was conducted with participants aged 60 or older. Abstract Background The Primary Sjögren’s Syndrome Quality of Life questionnaire (PSS-QoL) is the first specific instrument to assess health-related quality of life (HRQoL) in Sjögren’s disease (SjD). The aim is to translate and cross-culturally adapt the PSS-QoL into Brazilian Portuguese and to evaluate its psychometric properties. Methods The original English version was translated into Brazilian Portuguese by two native Brazilians who were proficient in the English language. The retranslation was conducted by two native Americans proficient in Brazilian Portuguese. A committee undertook an analysis of the translated and retranslated versions, resulting in the generation of the first Brazilian version, which was submitted to the cross-cultural adaptation phase. In this phase, 50 participants with SjD responded to the instrument in Stages I and II, resulting in the generation of the second and final Brazilian version. To assess the psychometric properties, demographic and clinical data were collected from 75 patients. The HRQoL questionnaires (final Brazilian version of the PSS-QoL, Short Form-36 Health Survey (SF-36) and EuroQoL-5 dimension (EQ-5D)) were completed. Construct validity was analyzed using the Pearson or Spearman correlation coefficient. Reliability was analyzed using Cronbach’s alpha and the intraclass correlation coefficient (ICC). Results Eight questions and one response item were revised due to an incomprehension rate of greater than 15% among the participants in the cross-cultural adaptation phase. The final Brazilian version of the PSS-QoL was validated, revealing a high correlation between the total score and functional capacity (r= −0.713, p < 0.001), and vitality (r= −0.770, p < 0. 001) and mental health (r= −0.742, p < 0.001) domains of the SF-36 and a moderate correlation with the other domains of the SF-36 and a moderate correlation with the EQ-5D-tto (r= −0.573, p < 0.001), and EQ-5D-VAS (r= −0.559, p < 0.001). Resumen: Tras cuatro meses luchando contra la pandemia, la ciudad de São Paulo, Brasil, empezó una fase de flexibilización de las medidas de alejamiento social en julio de 2020. A la vez, hubo una reducción en la tasa de alejamiento social y en el número de casos, muertes y ocupación de camas en los hospitales. Se desarrolló un modelo de simulación multiagente para entender la dinámica de la pandemia en la ciudad de São Paulo. Diferente de lo esperado, los resultados contradictorios del modelo reflejaron la realidad de la ciudad. Sostenemos que se puede atribuir este fenómeno a las burbujas locales de protección que surgieron durante la ausencia de redes de contagio. Estas burbujas redujeron la tasa de transmisión del virus, reduciendo de forma corta y temporal la curva epidémica -pero se manifestaron como un equilibrio inestable. Abstract: After four months of fighting the pandemic, the city of São Paulo, Brazil, entered a phase of relaxed social distancing measures in July 2020. Simultaneously, there was a decline in the social distancing rate and a reduction in the number of cases, fatalities, and hospital bed occupancy. To understand the pandemic dynamics in the city of São Paulo, we developed a multi-agent simulation model. Surprisingly, the counter-intuitive results of the model followed the city’s reality. We argue that this phenomenon could be attributed to local bubbles of protection that emerged in the absence of contagion networks. These bubbles reduced the transmission rate of the virus, causing short and temporary reductions in the epidemic curve - but manifested as an unstable equilibrium. Our hypothesis aligns with the virus spread dynamics observed thus far, without the need for ad hoc assumptions regarding the natural thresholds of collective immunity or the heterogeneity of the population’s transmission rate, which may lead to erroneous predictions. Our model was designed to be user-friendly and does not require any scientific or programming expertise to generate outcomes on virus transmission in a given location. Furthermore, as an input to start our simulation model, we developed the COVID-19 Protection Index as an alternative to the Human Development Index, which measures a given territory vulnerability to the coronavirus and includes characteristics of the health system and socioeconomic development, as well as the infrastructure of the city of São Paulo. Abstract Recent research on structural dynamics has steered towards elastic metamaterials, as band gap phenomena can be explored to mitigate vibration. A challenge in their design is the determination of configurations resulting in wider band gaps in lower frequency ranges. Since some level of damping is unavoidable in any real engineering structure, it is necessary to extend the current methodology of optimal design to provide a deeper understanding of how damping may affect the desired performance. Therefore, the main objective of this article is to propose and evaluate a numerical procedure for the optimization of band gaps in damped metamaterials. Specifically, a modified objective function that incorporates an evanescence index integral is used and two optimization schemes are implemented, each reflecting whether the structure is undamped or damped. It is shown that the optimal damped metamaterial has wider range of attenuation than the undamped optimal one, but with decreased attenuation levels. Abstract In this article, we examine social distancing, the main preventive action in the Covid-19 pandemic, as a phenomenon that goes beyond its demarcation as a health measure, revealing itself as a human experience unfolded in various psychological sufferings, challenging the field of Mental Health in many ways. RESUMEN Objetivo: mapear las evidencias sobre las orientaciones realizadas para el autocuidado de pacientes en el post-trasplante de células madre hematopoyéticas (TCTH). Método: Scoping Review apoyada en las recomendaciones del Instituto Joanna Briggs, con búsquedas entre marzo y abril de 2022 en bases de datos y repositorios de tesis y disertaciones nacionales e internacionales. ABSTRACT Objective: to analyze Primary Health Care professionals’ perceptions about the access of people with pulmonary tuberculosis to government social support and income transfer programs. Methods: multicenter/qualitative study, carried out in Family Health Units in four Brazilian capitals: Belém/Pará, Campo Grande/Mato Grosso do Sul, Recife/Pernambuco and Rio de Janeiro/Rio de Janeiro. Fifty-eight professionals participated (social workers, dentists, nurses, pharmacists, physicians and nursing technicians), who provided assistance to people with pulmonary tuberculosis. Resumo O objetivo desse estudo foi avaliar os efeitos sazonais dos meses do ano sobre as respostas fisiológicas e produtivas de vacas leiteiras mestiças criadas em clima amazônico. Foram avaliadas 20 vacas lactantes, alimentadas com pasto de Brachiaria decumbens, com acesso livre a água e suplementação mineral. Foram registrados dados das variáveis climáticas temperatura do ar (TA), umidade relativa do ar (UR), precipitação pluviométrica (PP) e índice de temperatura e Umidade (ITU) durante os meses de janeiro a abril de 2019. Os dados fisiológicos coletados foram: frequência respiratória (FR, mov/min), frequência cardíaca (FC, bat./min), temperatura retal (TR, ºC), temperatura superficial do úbere (TSU, ºC), temperatura superfície corporal (TSC, ºC), temperatura superficial do dorso (TSD, ºC), temperatura superficial da fronte (TSF, ºC) e temperatura superficial da canela (TSCA, °C). Também foi mensurada a produção de leite (PL, kg). Houve diferença significativa (P<0,05) da TSCA e FR com valores variando de 34,8 a 35,5°C e 32,0 a 36,2 mov/min, respectivamente. Não houve diferença significativa (P>0,05) para TSC e os valores observados para PL e ITU foram 3,8; 3,8; 4,6; 4,1 kg e 77,7; 79,7; 80,6; 80,1, respectivamente. Abstract The objective of this study was to evaluate the seasonal effect of months of the year upon the physiological and productive responses of crossbred dairy cows raised in an Amazonian climate. Twenty lactating cows were evaluated, fed on Brachiaria decumbens pasture, with free access to water and mineral supplementation. Data from climate variables air temperature (AT), relative humidity (RH), rainfall (RA) and temperature and humidity index (THI) were recorded dur ing the months of January to April 2019. The physiological data collected were: respiratory rate (RR, mov/min), heart rate (HR, beats/min), rectal temperature (RT, ºC), udder surface temperature (UST, ºC), body surface temperature (BST, ºC), dorsum surface temperature (DST, ºC), front surface temperature (FST, ºC) and rear shin temperature (RST). Milk production (MP) was also measured. There was a significant difference (P<0.05) of RST and RR with values ranging from 34.8 to 35.5°C and 32.0 to 36.2 mov/min, respectively. There were no significant difference (P>0.05) for BST, and the values for MP and THI were 3.8; 3.8; 4.6; 4.1 kg and 77.7; 79.7; 80.6; 80.1, respectively. It was concluded that there was a seasonal effect of the months of the year evaluated on the respiratory rate of animals, however, it did not change the MP and the THI.
