In this work, the innovation process to take chemical technologies born in universities to the market is described. The discussion is structured on the stages: research/science, patenting, opportunity evaluation, scale-up and proof of concept that lead to two possible outputs: technology transfer or startup creation. The work also describes the activities of Escalab, a UFMG technology lab, in the innovation process: technological mapping/R&D for the industry, technology scale up, technology acceleration, open innovation programs with industry and the program “go-to-market” for the insertion of chemical startups in market. RESUMO A pandemia de covid-19 se impôs de modo mais agudo e dramático aos grupos políticos e socialmente mais vulnerabilizados, como a População em Situação de Rua (PSR). A literatura sobre as respostas às demandas de saúde e de assistência social dos mais vulnerabilizados, durante a pandemia, ainda é escassa. Neste artigo, descreve-se a rede de cuidado à PSR, considerando os caminhos formalmente instituídos e aqueles produzidos durante a pandemia de covid-19, no município de Belo Horizonte. Para tanto, realizaram-se análise documental, visitas técnicas a serviços assistenciais, entrevistas em profundidade e grupos focais com atores que compõem a rede de cuidado. Os resultados mostraram que a rede é composta por quatro componentes com interseções: pela rede da saúde, da assistência social, da Pastoral Nacional do Povo da Rua (sociedade civil organizada) e a rede criada para cuidado de sintomáticos respiratórios. As mudanças de fluxos impostas pela pandemia repercutiram em dificuldades no acesso aos serviços de cuidado da PSR. ABSTRACT The COVID-19 pandemic has imposed itself in a acutely and dramatically way, particularly on politically and socially vulnerable groups, such as the homeless population (HP). The literature on health emergency and response and social care needs of the most vulnerable during the pandemic is scarce. This article describes the network of care for HP, including formally instituted pathways of care and those produced during the pandemic of COVID-19, in the city of Belo Horizonte. The methodological path used documentary analysis, technical visits to care services, in-depth interviews and focus groups with the care network stakeholders. The results showed that the network is composed of four components with intersections: the health network, the social care network, the ‘National Pastoral Care of the Homeless People’ (non-governmental organization) and the network created to care for people with respiratory symptoms. The workflow changes imposed by the pandemic resulted in access barriers in different centers offering care for HP. However, it was observed the potentiality of the integral care offer, through the connections built during the pandemic between health, social care, and the non-governmental organizations. This study aimed to identify meanings produced by communication directed at the homeless population during the Covid-19 pandemic in Belo Horizonte. Forty-eight interviews with homeless people, Brazilian National Health System and Brazilian National Social Assistance System managers and workers, and representatives of the Pastoral Ministry for the Homeless and Public Defender’s Office were analyzed using content analysis. The results and discussion are structured around five core themes: the pandemic and its onset; closure of the city and the consequences for homeless people; disinformation and reproduction of stigmas; disinformation and vaccination; and the infodemic. The results suggest that communication related to the pandemic was seen as a minor factor in public planning that negatively impacted coping with the disease. The findings highlight the importance of identifying and listening to vulnerable groups and promoting inclusive and dialogical public communication strategies tailored to their specific needs.

O estudo objetivou identificar os sentidos produzidos pela comunicação dirigida à população em situação de rua (PSR) durante a pandemia de Covid-19 na cidade de Belo Horizonte. Por meio da técnica de análise de conteúdo, analisaram-se 48 entrevistas realizadas com a PSR; gestores e trabalhadores do Sistema Único de Saúde e do Sistema Único de Assistência Social; e representantes da Pastoral do Povo da Rua e da Defensoria Pública. Cinco temáticas identificadas respaldam os resultados e a discussão: pandemia e seu surgimento; fechamento da cidade e consequências para PSR; desinformação e reprodução de estigmas; desinformação e vacinação; e infodemia. Os resultados indicaram que a comunicação relacionada à pandemia foi considerada como fator de menor importância no planejamento público, ocasionando impacto negativo no enfrentamento social da doença. Destaca-se a importância de estratégias de comunicação públicas, inclusivas, dialógicas – com identificação e escuta dos grupos populacionais vulneráveis – e adaptadas às suas necessidades.

El objetivo del estudio fue identificar los sentidos producidos por la comunicación dirigida a la Población que Vive en la Calle (PSR) durante la pandemia de Covid-19 en la ciudad de Belo Horizonte. Por medio de la técnica de análisis de contenido se analizaron 48 entrevistas realizadas con esa población, gestores y trabajadores del Sistema Brasileño de Salud y Sistema Brasileño de Asistencia Social, representantes de la Pastoral de la Población que vive en la Calle y la Defensoría Pública. RESUMO Objetivo Analisar a cobertura vacinal até os 24 meses de vida, segundo raça/cor da pele, na coorte de nascidos vivos em 2017-2018 em Natal, Rio Grande do Norte. Métodos Inquérito de base populacional realizado em 2020 e 2021. Estimaram-se as coberturas vacinais até os 24 meses de idade, segundo doses aplicadas, válidas e oportunas. A associação bruta da raça/cor da pele foi estimada pelo cálculo da razão de prevalência bruta e respectivos intervalos de confiança de 95% (IC95%), utilizando-se regressão de Poisson. Resultados Das 688 crianças da coorte selecionadas, houve maior cobertura entre as crianças negras para as doses aplicadas (brancas 30,5%; negras 47,8%; IC95%) e válidas (brancas 25,8%; negras 40,1%; IC95%), sem significância estatística, e menor cobertura para as doses oportunas, no esquema completo sem febre amarela (RP = 0,21; IC95% 0,04;0,90). Conclusão Evidenciou-se menor cobertura oportuna entre crianças negras, comparadas com crianças brancas.

ABSTRACT Objective To analyze vaccination coverage up to 24 months of age according to race/ skin color in the 2017-2018 live birth cohort in Natal, Rio Grande do Norte, Brazil. Methods Population-based survey conducted in 2020 and 2021. Vaccination coverage up to 24 months of age was estimated according to administered, valid and timely doses. Crude association of race/skin color was estimated by calculating the crude Prevalence Ratio and respective 95% Confidence Intervals, using Poisson regression. Results Of the 688 children in the selected cohort, there was greater coverage among Black children for administered doses (White 30.5%; Black 47.8%; 95%CI) and valid doses (White 25.8%; Black 40.1%; 95%CI), although without statistical significance, and lower coverage for timely doses, in the full schedule excluding yellow fever (PR = 0.21; 95%CI 0.04;0.90). Conclusion There was lower timely coverage among Black children compared to White children.

ABSTRACT Littoral cell angioma is an extremely rare splenic vascular tumor originating from the cells lining the splenic red pulp sinuses. Approximately 150 cases of littoral cell angioma have been reported since 1991. Its clinical manifestation is usually asymptomatic and is mostly diagnosed as an incidental finding through abdominal imaging. Herein, we present a case of littoral cell angioma in a 41-year-old woman with no previous comorbidities, which initially presented as a nonspecific splenic lesion diagnosed on imaging in the emergency room. ABSTRACT Despite being subject to lower AIDS-related mortality rates and having a higher life expectancy, patients with HIV are more prone to develop non-AIDS events. A low CD4+/CD8+ ratio during antiretroviral therapy identifies people with heightened immune senescence and increased risk of mortality. In clinical practice, finding determinants of a low CD4+/CD8+ ratio may be useful for identifying patients who require close monitoring due to an increased risk of comorbidities and death. We performed a prospective study on the evolution of the CD4+/CD8+ ratio in 60 patients infected with HIV (80% males), who were subjected to two different antiretroviral regimens: early and deferred therapy. The initial CD4+/CD8+ ratio was ≤1 for 70% of the patients in both groups. Older age, CD4+ cell count at inclusion, Nadir CD8+T-cell count, and Initial CD4+/CD8+ ratio ≤ 1 were risk factors for lack of ratio recovery. In the multivariate analysis, a CD4+/CD8+ ratio > 1 at the start of the treatment was found to be a determinant factor in maintaining a CD4+/CD8+ ratio > 1. The nadir CD4+T-cell count was lower in the deferred therapy group (p=0.004), and the last CD4+/CD8+ ratio ≤1 was not associated with comorbidities. Ratio recovery was not associated with the duration of HIV infection, time without therapy, or absence of AIDS incidence. A greater improvement was observed in patients treated early (p=0.003). In contrast, the slope of increase was slower in patients who deferred treatment. In conclusion, the increase in the CD4+/CD8+ ratio occurred mostly for patients undergoing early strategy treatment and its extension did not seem to be related to previous HIV-related factors. RESUMO Objetivo Estimar a cobertura vacinal da hepatite A em crianças de 24 meses e identificar fatores associados à ausência de vacinação. Métodos Inquérito em amostra estratificada por estratos socioeconômicos em capitais (2020-2022), com estimativa de cobertura e intervalos de confiança de 95% (IC95%) e análise de fatores pela razão de prevalência (RP) via regressão de Poisson. Resultados Nas 31.001 crianças, a cobertura da hepatite A foi de 88,1% (IC95% 86,8;89,2). Nos estratos socioeconômicos (A/B), a variável pais/responsáveis imigrantes foi associada à ausência de vacinação (RP = 1,91; IC95% 1,09;3,37); nos estratos C/D, crianças de cor amarela (RP = 4,69; IC95% 2,30;9,57), 4ª ordem de nascimento ou mais (RP = 1,68; IC95% 1,06;2,66), não frequentar creche/berçário (RP = 1,67; IC95% 1,24;2,24) e mãe com trabalho remunerado (RP = 1,42; IC95% 1,16;1,74) foram associadas à ausência de vacinação. Conclusão Cobertura da hepatite A abaixo da meta (95%), sugerindo-se considerar especificidades dos estratos sociais.

Results Among 31,001 children, hepatitis A coverage was 88.1% (95%CI 86.8;89.2). Regarding socioeconomic strata (A/B), the variable immigrant parents/guardians was associated with non-vaccination (PR = 1.91; 95%CI 1.09;3.37); in strata C/D, children of Asian race/skin color (PR = 4.69; 95%CI 2.30;9.57), fourth-born child or later (PR = 1.68; 95%CI 1.06;2 .66), not attending daycare/nursery (PR = 1.67; 95%CI 1.24;2.24) and mother with paid work (PR = 1.42; 95%CI 1.16;1.74) were associated with non-vaccination. Conclusion Hepatitis A coverage was below the target (95%), suggesting that specificities of social strata should be taken into consideration.

ABSTRACT Objective To analyze full vaccination coverage in live births in 2017 and 2018 in the capitals of the Midwest region of Brazil, according to social strata. Methods Population-based household survey with cluster sampling. Full coverage in children at 12 and 24 months of age and sociodemographic factors were analyzed. Results 5,715 children were analyzed. Full coverage at 12 months of age was 67.9% (95%CI 65.4;70.4), while at 24 months it was 48.2% (95%CI 45.3;51.1). Pneumococcal vaccine had the highest vaccination coverage (91.3%), while the second dose of rotavirus vaccine had the lowest (74.2%). In Campo Grande, no vaccine reached coverage above 90%, with BCG (82.9%) and hepatitis B (82.1%) standing out. Campo Grande and Brasília had the worst vaccination coverage in the high social stratum (24 months of age). Conclusion Vaccination coverage in the Midwest was below 80%, falling short of the recommended target and associated with socioeconomic factors.

RESUMO Objetivo Analisar a cobertura vacinal completa em nascidos vivos em 2017 e 2018, nas capitais da região Centro-Oeste do Brasil, segundo estratos sociais. Métodos Inquérito domiciliar de base populacional com amostragem por conglomerados. Analisou-se a cobertura vacinal completa em crianças aos 12 e 24 meses de idade e os fatores sociodemográficos. Resultados Foram analisadas 5.715 crianças. A cobertura completa aos 12 meses de idade foi 67,9% (IC95% 65,4;70,4) e aos 24 meses de idade foi 48,2% (IC95% 45,3;51,1). A maior cobertura foi da vacina pneumococo (91,3%) e a pior da segunda dose da vacina rotavírus (74,2%). Em Campo Grande, nenhuma vacina alcançou cobertura acima de 90%, destacando-se as vacinas BCG (82,9%) e hepatite B (82,1%). Campo Grande e Brasília tiveram piores coberturas vacinais no estrato social alto (24 meses de idade). Conclusão A cobertura vacinal na região Centro-Oeste foi inferior a 80%, abaixo da meta preconizada e associada com fatores socioeconômicos.

Abstract Objective Summarize the evidence on drug therapies for obstructive sleep apnea. Methods The Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) guidelines were followed. PubMed, Embase, Scopus, Web of Science, SciELO, LILACS, Scopus, Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials, and ClinicalTrials.gov were searched on February 17th, 2023. A search strategy retrieved randomized clinical trials comparing the Apnea-Hypopnea Index (AHI) in pharmacotherapies. Studies were selected and data was extracted by two authors independently. The risk of bias was assessed using the Cochrane Risk of Bias tool. RevMan 5.4. was used for data synthesis. Results 4930 articles were obtained, 68 met inclusion criteria, and 29 studies (involving 11 drugs) were combined in a meta-analysis. Atomoxetine plus oxybutynin vs placebo in AHI mean difference of -7.71 (-10.59, -4.83) [Fixed, 95 % CI, I2 = 50 %, overall effect: Z = 5.25, p < 0.001]. Donepezil vs placebo in AHI mean difference of -8.56 (-15.78, -1.33) [Fixed, 95 % CI, I2 = 21 %, overall effect: Z = 2.32, p = 0.02]. Sodium oxybate vs placebo in AHI mean difference of -5.50 (-9.28, -1.73) [Fixed, 95 % CI, I2 = 32 %, overall effect: Z = 2.86, p = 0.004]. Trazodone vs placebo in AHI mean difference of -12.75 (-21.30, -4.19) [Fixed, 95 % CI, I2 = 0 %, overall effect: Z = 2.92, p = 0.003]. Conclusion The combination of noradrenergic and antimuscarinic drugs shows promising results. Identifying endotypes may be the key to future drug therapies for obstructive sleep apnea. Moreover, studies with longer follow-up assessing the safety and sustained effects of these treatments are needed. Resumo O presente estudo teve como objetivo comparar os fatores associados à multimorbidade em idosos de 60 a 69 anos, em 2010 e 2021. Trata-se de um estudo transversal comparativo, composto por dois estudos transversais. Ambas as coletas de dados foram realizadas de forma individual por entrevistadores treinados e deu-se por inquérito domiciliar, no município de Coxilha-RS, Brasil. Utilizou-se para análise inferencial bivariada, exato de Fisher e qui-quadrado, e multivariada o teste de regressão de Poisson com variância robusta com nível de significância de p 0,05. Detectou-se que a prevalência de multimorbidade teve uma diminuição significativa, passando de 66,5% em 2010, para 41,6% em 2021. Ser dependente para atividades básicas e instrumentais da vida diária associou-se a maior prevalência para a multimorbidade no ano de 2010, contudo no ano de 2021 o ser dependente para atividades instrumentais, não saber ler/escrever e não trabalhar apresentou maior prevalência para a multimorbidade. Abstract The present study aimed to compare the factors associated with multimorbidity in older adults aged 60 to 69 years, in 2010 and 2021. This is a comparative cross-sectional study, comprised of other two cross-sectional studies. Both data collections were individually conducted by trained interviewers through household surveys in the municipality of Coxilha-RS, Brazil. Bivariate inferential analysis was conducted using Fisher's exact test and chi-square test, while multivariate analysis employed Poisson regression with robust variance with a significance level of p 0.05. It was observed that the prevalence of multimorbidity significantly decreased, decreasing from 66.5% in 2010 to 41.6% in 2021. Dependency for basic and instrumental activities of daily living was associated with higher prevalence of multimorbidity in the year 2010. However, in 2021, being dependent on instrumental activities, being unable to read/write, and being unemployed showed higher prevalence for multimorbidity. ABSTRACT Tomato (Solanum lycopersicum L.), a globally significant species, faces substantial economic losses due to pest insects. However, exploiting dwarf germplasm for pest resistance, particularly the UFU MC TOM1 lineage, remains underexplored. The objectives of this study were to select backcross populations from dwarf tomato plants through direct and indirect selection and to elucidate whether there are consequences in resistance level as backcross generations progress aiming at a genetic background of interest. Backcross populations 1, 2, and 3 of dwarf tomato plants were obtained. In the conducted experiment, featuring 20 treatments and four repetitions in a randomized block design, we assessed foliar injuries and herbivory through image analysis. Additionally, we quantified the content of acylsugars, conducted chromatographic analysis, and analyzed the metabolomic profile in the leaflets. Promisingly, the UFU 13_1 dwarf plant population showed potential for enhancing genetic improvement programs targeting pest insect resistance. Moreover, the progression of backcross generations yielded varied resistance levels, likely influenced by inheritance patterns and acylsugar content. The UFU MC TOM1 line, distinguished by its high acylsugar content, exhibited robust resistance against both the tomato leafminer (Tuta absoluta Meyrick 1917) and the leafminer (Liriomyza huidobrensis Blanchard). Furthermore, our analysis revealed the expression of metabolites in the UFU MC TOM1 lineage, potentially linked to various biotic and abiotic stress responses. These findings offer promising prospects for leveraging the dwarf tomato variety, UFU MC TOM1, in genetic improvement programs aimed at combating pest insects in tomatoes. Resumo Introdução: As doenças respiratórias agudas apresentam difícil mensuração e contribuem para o grande número de causas de óbito mal definidas, o que afeta a confiabilidade das informações de mortalidade. Objetivo: Verificar a acurácia da definição da causa básica de óbito para doenças respiratórias agudas dos óbitos registrados no Sistema de Informações sobre Mortalidade do Distrito Federal em 2018. Método: Foi realizado um estudo de acurácia, com amostra mínima de 331 declarações de óbito com as causas de óbito do capítulo 10 (doenças do aparelho respiratório — J00-J99 — conforme subcategorias) da Classificação Internacional de Doenças na versão 10, considerando a definição de causa básica de óbito pela equipe de investigação como o padrão-ouro. Foram calculadas a sensibilidade, especificidade, valores preditivos positivo e negativo e as razões de verossimilhanças positivas e negativas com os respectivos intervalos de confiança a 95%. Resultados: Total de 396 declarações de óbito foram incluídas. Foi constatada alta sensibilidade para identificar doenças pulmonares agudas nas causas básicas de óbito (82,8%. IC95% 78,6–86,5) e alta especificidade (93,1%. IC95% 77,2–99,2). A probabilidade de a declaração apresentar resultado falso negativo foi baixa (0,2. IC95% 0,1–0,2). Abstract Background: Acute respiratory diseases are difficult to measure and contribute to a large number of ill-defined causes of death, which affects the reliability of mortality information. Objective: To verify the accuracy of the definition of the underlying cause of death for acute respiratory diseases registered in the Mortality Information System of the Federal District in 2018. Method: An accuracy study was conducted, with a minimum sample of 331 death certificates with the causes of death according to Chapter 10 (diseases of the respiratory system — J00-J99 — according to subcategories) of the International Classification of Diseases, version 10, considering the definition of the underlying cause of death by the research team as the gold standard. Sensitivity, specificity, positive and negative predictive values, and positive and negative likelihood ratios were calculated with their respective 95% confidence intervals (CIs). Results: Overall, 396 death certificates were included. High sensitivity was identified to determine acute lung diseases in the underlying cause of death (82.8%, 95%CI 78.6–86.5) and high specificity (93.1%, 95%CI 77.2–99.2). The probability of the declaration shows that negative false value was low (0.2, 95%CI 0.1–0.2). Abstract Objective To review current literature to support the use of mesna as a preventive therapy for hemorrhagic cystitis and bladder cancer in patients with systemic autoimmune diseases and systemic vasculitis treated with cyclophosphamide. Materials and methods The search for articles was conducted systematically through MEDLINE, LILACS, Cochrane Library, and Embase databases. Only articles in English were selected. For available records, titles and abstracts were selected independently by two investigators. Results Eighteen studies were selected for analysis. The known adverse effects of cyclophosphamide were hematological toxicity, infections, gonadal toxicity, teratogenicity, increased risk for malignancy and hemorrhagic cystitis. Long-term toxicity was highly dependent on cyclophosphamide cumulative dose. The risk of bladder cancer is especially higher in long-term exposure and with cumulative doses above 36 g. The risk remains high for years after drug discontinuation. Hemorrhagic cystitis is highly correlated with cumulative dose and its incidence ranges between 12 and 41%, but it seems to be lower with new regimens with reduced cyclophosphamide dose. No randomized controlled trials were found to analyze the use of mesna in systemic autoimmune rheumatic diseases and systemic vasculitis. Retrospective studies yielded conflicting results. Uncontrolled prospective studies with positive results were considered at high risk of bias. No evidence was found to support the use of mesna during the treatment with cyclophosphamide for autoimmune diseases or systemic vasculitis to prevent hemorrhagic cystitis and bladder cancer. In the scenarios of high cumulative cyclophosphamide dose (i.e., > 30 g), patients with restricted fluid intake, neurogenic bladder, therapy with oral anticoagulants, and chronic kidney disease, mesna could be considered. Conclusion The current evidence was found to be insufficient to support the routine use of mesna for the prophylaxis of hemorrhagic cystitis and bladder cancer in patients being treated for systemic autoimmune diseases and systemic vasculitis with cyclophosphamide. The use may be considered for selected cases.
