RESUMO Este texto reflete sobre a representatividade do cabelo crespo como elemento de pertencimento racial na literatura infantil, ancorando-se no livro Amor de cabelo, do diretor, produtor e escritor negro norte-americano Matthew A. Cherry. Para tanto, investiga como as imagens da ilustradora Vashti Harrison, também uma norte-americana negra, comungam com o texto para expressarem uma visão da pessoa negra e de seu núcleo familiar sem os estereótipos usuais. Cotejando a noção de amor de bell hooks, esta análise empreende uma leitura que vagueia tanto pelos aspectos temáticos como estruturais da narrativa, tendo como hipótese de que o livro, sem fazer alusão direta, é um contradiscurso ao racismo que se origina no período da escravização, cujos efeitos podem ser sentidos até hoje. ABSTRACT This text reflects on the representativeness of the kinky hair (or afro-textured hair) as an element of racial belonging in children’s literature, based on the book Hair Love, by the African American director, producer, and writer Matthew A. Cherry. To do so, it investigates how the illustrations by Vashti Harrison, also an African American, align with the text to express a vision of black individuals and of their family without usual stereotypes. Drawing on bell hooks’ notion of love, this analysis undertakes a reading that runs through both thematic and structural aspects of the narrative, hypothesizing that the book, without making direct allusions, serves as a counter-discourse to the racism that originated during slavery, the effects of which can still be felt today. This article investigates the characteristics of activist journalism present in the narratives about the Amazon by journalist Eliane Brum, published on the website El País Brasil, between 2017 and 2020. From the perspective of the current of narrative studies associated with journalism, the research seeks to problematize the processes communicative, argumentative strategies and the effects that insert a sense of resistance in the narratives. The study analyzes nine reports from 2017 to 2020 about the Amazon region using the Critical Narrative Analysis Method (Motta, 2013) in conjunction with Content Analysis (Bardin, 2011). The results show that the reports use narrative resources that show journalistic personal identification with themes and sources, which underlies activist journalism.

Este trabalho pretende analisar as características do jornalismo ativista presentes nas narrativas sobre a Amazônia da jornalista Eliane Brum, publicadas no site El País Brasil, entre 2017 e 2020. Sob a perspectiva da corrente dos estudos narrativos associada ao jornalismo, a pesquisa busca problematizar os processos comunicativos, as estratégias argumentativas e os efeitos que inserem um sentido de resistência nas narrativas. O estudo analisa nove reportagens no período de 2017 a 2020 sobre a região amazônica por meio do método da Análise Crítica da Narrativa (Motta, 2013) em conjunto com a Análise de Conteúdo (Bardin, 2011). Os resultados mostram que as reportagens utilizam recursos narrativos que evidenciam a identificação pessoal jornalística com temas e fontes, o que fundamenta o jornalismo ativista.

Resumo Introdução O metabólito do benzeno ácido trans, trans-mucônico (t, t-MA) urinário é considerado bom bioindicador de exposição a níveis de benzeno no ar superiores a 0,50 ppm. Objetivo Determinar níveis urinários de ácido trans, trans-mucônico (t, t-MA) e investigar relação com potenciais fontes de exposição ao benzeno e associação com parâmetros hematológicos. Método Estudo seccional, com 150 moradores de Açailândia, Maranhão, Brasil. Utilizou-se questionário estruturado para caracterização sociodemográfica, ocupacional, dentre outras. Coletaram-se amostras de urina e sangue para determinar níveis de t, t-MA e realização de hemograma. As associações foram exploradas mediante regressão logística e linear múltipla. Resultados O t, t-MA foi detectado em 27% dos participantes, sendo a média da concentração 0,15 mg/g de creatinina. As alterações hematológicas mais frequentes foram bastonetes baixos (41%), eosinofilia (33%) e níveis reduzidos de hemoglobina (19%). Não encontrou-se correlação estatisticamente significativa entre t, t-MA e parâmetros do hemograma. Os fatores que influenciaram de forma significativa a excreção de t, t-MA foram cor da pele, prática regular de atividades de lazer com exposição a solventes orgânicos e consumo de refrigerante e refresco nas últimas 24 horas. Conclusão A população parece não estar exposta a concentrações elevadas de benzeno. Abstract Background The urine benzene metabolite trans,trans-muconic (t,t-MA) is considered a good bioindicator of exposure to benzene levels in the air above 0.50 ppm. Objective Determine urinary levels of trans, trans-muconic acid (t,t-MA) and investigate the relationship with potential sources of exposure to benzene and its association with hematological parameters. Method A sectional study was carried out with 150 residents of Açailândia, Maranhão, Brazil. A structured questionnaire was used for sociodemographic and occupational characterization, among others. Urine and blood samples were collected to determine t,t-MA levels and blood counts. Associations were explored using multiple linear and logistic regressions. Results The t,t-MA was detected in 27% of the participants, with an average concentration of 0.15 mg/g creatinine. The most frequent hematological changes were low rods (41%), eosinophilia (33%), and reduced hemoglobin levels (19%). No statistically significant correlation was found between t,t-MA and blood count parameters. The factors that significantly influenced the excretion of t, t-MA were skin color, regular practice of leisure activities with exposure to organic solvents, and consumption of soda and soft drinks in the last 24 hours. Conclusion The population does not appear to be exposed to high concentrations of benzene. Resumo Este estudo in vitro avaliou o efeito anti-erosivo de um verniz experimental contendo 5% de cloreto estanoso (SnCl₂) associado a diferentes concentrações de NaF (sem NaF, 2,5% NaF ou 5,2% NaF) sobre esmalte e dentina radicular bovinos. Cem amostras foram pré-erodidas (ácido cítrico 0,3%, pH 2,6, 10 min) e randomizadas em cinco grupos (n=10 para cada substrato): Controle negativo - água milli-Q; Sem NaF - Verniz experimental sem SnCl2 e sem NaF; 2,5 NaF - Verniz experimental 5% SnCl2 associado a 2,5% NaF; 5,2 NaF: Verniz experimental 5% SnCl2 associado a 5,2% NaF e controle positivo - Verniz comercial contendo 5% NaF (Duraphat). Após a aplicação dos vernizes, os desafios erosivos e abrasivos foram realizados por cinco dias. A perda de estrutura dentária (PED) foi determinada por perfilometria óptica e a perda de cálcio (ΔCa2+) por espectroscopia de absorção atômica. A análise da dentina também foi realizada por MEV. Um teste ANOVA/Bonferroni de uma via foi realizado para analisar os dados (α=0,05). Os grupos experimentais 2,5 NaF e 5,2 NaF apresentaram maior eficácia na prevenção de PED quando comparados aos demais grupos (p<0,05), independentemente do substrato. Além disso, esses grupos apresentaram menor perda no teor de Ca2+ quando comparados aos demais grupos (p<0,05), para esmalte e dentina. A dentina apresentou maior PED e de ΔCa2+ quando comparada ao esmalte em todos os tratamentos (p<0,05). Os vernizes experimentais contendo NaF 5,2% e 2,5% apresentaram resultados promissores tanto na prevenção de PED quanto na perda de Ca2+, independente do substrato estudado.

Abstract This in vitro study evaluated the anti-erosive effect of an experimental varnish containing 5% stannous chloride (SnCl₂) associated with different concentrations of NaF (NaF-free, 2.5% NaF, or 5.2% NaF) on bovine enamel and root dentin. One hundred samples were pre-eroded (0.3% citric acid, pH 2.6, 10 min) and randomized into five groups (n=10 for each substrate): Negative control - milli-Q water; NaF-free - Experimental varnish SnCl₂-free and NaF-free; 2.5 NaF - Experimental varnish 5% SnCl₂ associated with 2.5% NaF; 5.2 NaF: Experimental varnish 5% SnCl₂ associated with 5.2% NaF and positive control - Commercial varnish containing 5% NaF (Duraphat). After the varnishes were applied, the erosive and abrasive challenges were carried out for five days. Loss of tooth structure (TSL) was determined by optical profilometry, and the loss of calcium (ΔCa2+) using atomic absorption spectroscopy. Dentin analysis was also performed by SEM. A one-way ANOVA/Bonferroni test was performed to analyze the data (α=0.05). The experimental 2.5 NaF and 5.2 NaF groups showed greater effectiveness in preventing TSL when compared to the other groups (p <0.05), regardless of the substrate. In addition, these groups showed lower loss in Ca2+ content when compared to the other groups (p <0.05), for enamel and dentin. Dentin showed greater TSL and ΔCa2+ loss when compared to enamel in all treatments (p <0.05). The 5.2% and 2.5% NaF-containing experimental varnishes showed promising results in both, the prevention of TSL and the loss of Ca2+, regardless of the substrate studied.

Abstract Melatonin (MLT) reportedly reduces side effects associated with certain antineoplastic agents. Accordingly, we investigated the effect of MLT on cisplatin (CP)-induced gastric emptying (GE) delay. Mice were intraperitoneally pretreated with vehicle (ethanol 5%; control group), MLT (5, 10, or 20 mg/kg), or N-acetylcysteine (NAC; 150 mg/kg), followed by CP treatment (5 mg/kg). Pharmacological modulation was analyzed using relevant receptor antagonists (luzindole: non-selective MT1/MT2 antagonist; 5 mg/kg or 4-P-PDOT: selective MT2 antagonist; 4 mg/kg) before treatment with MLT plus CP. All treatments were performed once daily for three days. GE was assessed using phenol red. Gut morphology was examined using scanning electron microscopy and optical microscopy. Compared with the control, CP decreased GE. Pretreatment with NAC and MLT (5 and 10 mg/kg) did not prevent CP-induced gastric dysmotility; however, pretreatment with 20 mg/kg MLT prevented this effect. In addition, luzindole and 4-P-PDOT suppressed MLT-mediated gastroprotection against cytotoxic effects of CP. CP caused degeneration of the gut mucosa, which was attenuated by MLT treatment. Thus, 20 mg/kg MLT prevented the GE delay and decreased CP-induced adverse effects on the gut mucosa. In addition, the gastroprotective activity was mediated via the MT2 receptor.

RESUMO Objetivo Analisar a autopercepção de esforço vocal, sinais e sintomas vocais e fadiga vocal em professores antes e durante a pandemia da COVID-19; e os fatores relacionados a dados sociodemograficos e ocupacionais que pudessem prever a autopercepção durante a pandemia. Métodos Participaram do estudo 263 professores brasileiros que estavam trabalhando em home office durante a pandemia. Eles responderam um questionário sobre dados sociodemográficos e ocupacionais, escala de Borg CR10-BR adaptada para classificação de esforço vocal, Lista de Sinais e Sintomas Vocais e Índice de Fadiga Vocal. Os questionários de autoavaliação vocal foram respondidos duas vezes, considerando antes e durante a pandemia. Resultados A autopercepção de esforço vocal, sinais e sintomas vocais e fadiga vocal durante a pandemia em professores foi menor do que antes da pandemia. Na comparação dos desfechos por queixa vocal, os professores sem queixa vocal apresentaram valores menores do que aqueles com queixa vocal. Professores com queixas vocais durante a pandemia apresentaram maior autopercepção de fadiga vocal. Professores de educação infantil, ensino fundamental e ensino médio relataram mais sinais e sintomas vocais antes do que durante a pandemia. Conclusão Em geral, os professores relatam diminuição do esforço vocal e dos sinais e sintomas vocais durante a pandemia de COVID-19. Professores com queixas vocais apresentam maior percepção de esforço vocal, sinais e sintomas vocais e fadiga vocal. A presença de queixas vocais e as variáveis relacionadas à demanda vocal durante a pandemia estão relacionadas à percepção de esforço vocal, sinais e sintomas vocais e fadiga vocal.

ABSTRACT Purpose This study aims to analyze the self-perception of vocal effort, vocal signs and symptoms, and vocal fatigue in teachers before and during the COVID-19 pandemic; and factors related to sociodemographic and occupational data that could predict self-perception during the pandemic Methods Participants were 263 Brazilian teachers working from in-home office during the pandemic. They answered a questionnaire on sociodemographic and occupational data, adapted Borg CR10-BR for vocal effort ratings, Vocal Signs and Symptoms List, and Vocal Fatigue Index. The vocal self-assessment questionnaires were answered twice, considering the period before and during the pandemic. Results The self-perception of vocal effort, vocal signs and symptoms, and vocal fatigue during the pandemic in teachers was lower than before the pandemic. In comparing outcomes due to vocal complaints, teachers with no vocal complaints presented lower values than those with vocal complaints. Teachers with vocal complaints during the pandemic showed greater self-perception of vocal fatigue. Teachers at early education, elementary, and high schools self-reported more vocal signs and symptoms before than during the pandemic. Conclusion In general, teachers report decreased vocal effort and vocal signs and symptoms during the COVID-19 pandemic. Teachers with vocal complaints have a higher perception of vocal effort, vocal signs and symptoms, and vocal fatigue. The presence of vocal complaints and the variables related to vocal demand during the pandemic are related to the perception of vocal effort, vocal signs and symptoms, and vocal fatigue.

RESUMO Introdução: Os baixos níveis de aptidão aeróbica estão associados ao excesso de adiposidade corporal em adolescentes. Porém, os estudos que analisaram essa associação em adolescentes, utilizaram diferentes métodos e medidas para avaliar a aptidão aeróbica, o que dificulta a comparação dos resultados. Objetivos: Realizar uma revisão sistemática com metanálise de estudos que analisaram a associação entre aptidão aeróbica e indicadores antropométricos de adiposidade corporal em adolescentes de 10 a 19 anos. Métodos: Realizou-se busca sistemática em maio de 2016, atualizada em março de 2017, nas seguintes bases de dados eletrônicas: LILACS (BIREME), Embase, MEDLINE (PubMed), Web of Science (Web of Knowledge), Scopus e SPORTDiscus. Resultados: Foram selecionados 23 estudos. A metanálise indicou que à medida que aumentavam os níveis de aptidão aeróbica, diminuíam os valores de IMC, do perímetro da cintura e do percentual de gordura corporal dos adolescentes. Conclusões: Existe uma associação negativa entre aptidão aeróbica (avaliada pela medida da captação de oxigênio no teste de corrida de vaivém de 20 metros [20m Shuttle Run]) e percentual de gordura, IMC e perímetro da cintura dos adolescentes e associação negativa entre aptidão aeróbica (avaliada pela contagem de voltas no teste de vai e vem de 20 metros) e percentual de gordura corporal. ABSTRACT Introduction: Low aerobic fitness levels are associated with excess body adiposity in adolescents. However, studies that have analyzed this association in adolescents have used different methods and measures to evaluate aerobic fitness, making it difficult to compare the results. Objective: To conduct a systematic review with meta-analysis of studies that have analyzed the association between aerobic fitness and anthropometric body adiposity indicators in adolescents aged 10-19 years. Methods: A systematic search was performed in May 2016, updated in March 2017, in the following electronic databases: LILACS (BIREME), Embase, MEDLINE (PubMed), Web of Science (Web of Knowledge), Scopus, and SPORTDiscus. Results: Twenty-three studies were selected. The meta-analysis indicated that as the aerobic fitness levels increased, the BMI, waist circumference and body fat percentage values of the adolescents decreased. Conclusion: There is a negative association between aerobic fitness (evaluated by measuring maximum oxygen uptake in the 20-meter Shuttle Run test) and the body fat percentage, BMI and waist circumference of adolescents and a negative association between aerobic fitness (assessed by measuring the number of laps in the 20-meter Shuttle Run test) and body fat percentage. However, caution is required in the interpretation of data due to the heterogeneity of the studies analyzed. Level of Evidence II; Systematic review of studies with level II of evidence.

Sin embargo, los estudios que analizaron esta asociación en adolescentes utilizaron diferentes métodos y medidas para evaluar la aptitud aeróbica, lo que dificulta la comparación de los resultados encontrados. Objetivo: Realizar una revisión sistemática con metanálisis de estudios que evaluaron la asociación entre aptitud aeróbica e indicadores antropométricos de adiposidad corporal en adolescentes de 10 a 19 años. Método: Se realizó una búsqueda sistemática en mayo de 2016, actualizada em marzo de 2017, en las bases de datos electrónicas: LILACS (BIREME), Embase, MEDLINE (PubMed), Web of Science (Web of Knowledge), Scopus y SPORTDiscus. Esta revisión incluyó estudios transversales con adolescentes de 10 a 19 años que analizaron la asociación entre la aptitud aeróbica (con diferentes métodos de evaluación) y los indicadores antropométricos de la adiposidad corporal (utilizando la antropometría como método). Resultados: Se seleccionaron 23 estudios. El metanálisis indicó que a medida que aumentaban los niveles de aptitud aeróbica, el IMC, la circunferencia de la cintura y el porcentaje de grasa corporal de los adolescentes disminuían. Conclusión: Existe una asociación negativa entre la aptitud aeróbica (evaluada por el test Shuttle Run 20 metros mediante el consumo máximo de oxígeno) y el porcentaje de grasa, IMC y circunferencia de cintura de los adolescentes y una asociación negativa entre la aptitud aeróbica evaluada por el test Shuttle Run 20 metros según el número de vueltas y el porcentaje de grasa corporal. RESUMEN La toxina iota (ITX) es una enterotoxina binaria producida como protoxina por Clostridium perfringens (C. perfringens) tipo E que es activada por enzimas proteolíticas en el intestino delgado de los animales infectados. Mediante la despolimerización de los filamentos de actina, la ITX provoca la desorganización del citoesqueleto de las células promoviendo el aumento de la permeabilidad celular. Aquí, realizamos esta revisión con el objetivo de avanzar en la comprensión de las enfermedades entéricas clostridiales causadas por las toxinas de C. perfringens y la especificidad de ITX en las lesiones de la mucosa intestinal. La ITX consta de un componente enzimático (Ia) y un componente de unión (Ib). Examinamos los hallazgos histológicos recientemente publicados sobre los efectos de la ITX y su relación con las enfermedades entéricas intestinales. Histológicamente, se ha observado necrosis hemorrágica y hemorragia multifocal en la mucosa del yeyuno-ileo, el intestino delgado y el abomaso. Aunque el diagnóstico sigue basándose en la presencia de toxinas en el contenido intestinal y en la historia clínica y/o histológica, es importante desarrollar nuevos indicadores enterotóxicos capaces de establecer métodos precisos para diferenciar las acciones de la ITX y de otras toxinas implicadas en el proceso infeccioso de C. perfringens tipo E.

ABSTRACT The iota toxin (ITX) is a binary enterotoxin produced as a protoxin by Clostridium perfringens (C. perfringens) type E that is activated by proteolytic enzymes in the small intestine of infected animals. By depolymerization of the actin filaments, ITX causes cytoskeleton disorganization of cells promoting the increase of the cell permeability. Here, we conducted this review aiming to advance the understanding of enteric clostridial diseases caused by C. perfringens toxins and the specificity of ITX in the intestinal mucosa lesions. ITX consists of an enzymatic component (Ia) and a binding component (Ib). We screened the recently published histological findings of the ITX effects and its relationship with intestinal enteric diseases. Histologically, hemorrhagic necrosis and multifocal hemorrhage have been observed in the jejunum-ileum mucosa, the small intestine, and the abomasum. Although the diagnosis is still based on the presence of toxins in the intestinal contents and the clinical and/or histological history, it is important to develop novel enterotoxemic indicators capable of establishing precise methods for differentiate the actions of ITX and other toxins involved in the infectious process of C. perfringens type E.

RESUMO Objetivo: analisar os fatores que influenciam a ocorrência da Leishmaniose Visceral Humana no estado da Paraíba, Brasil. Método: estudo ecológico, desenvolvido com os dados de 2012 a 2017, coletados em um laboratório de referência no estado e no Atlas do Desenvolvimento Humano no Brasil. A análise dos dados foi pelo modelo de regressão binomial, correlação de Pearson e Teste Kolmogorov-Smirnov. Resultados: foram confirmados 327 casos de leishmaniose visceral humana e 6.353 casos de leishmaniose visceral canina. Os principais indicadores municipais possuem uma relação significativa com o número de casos da doença no estado, e forte relação com número de casos positivos para Leishmaniose Visceral Humana. Conclusão: o modelo pode ser utilizado como referência para analisar a distribuição de casos da leishmaniose visceral humana e os possíveis fatores que influenciam na sua ocorrência, fornecendo aos gestores municipais mais uma alternativa de realização de medidas de controle/prevenção da doença, envolvendo diversos setores.

ABSTRACT Objective: to analyze the factors that influence the occurrence of Human Visceral Leishmaniasis in the state of Paraíba, Brazil. Method: ecological study, developed with data from 2012 to 2017, collected in a reference laboratory in the state and in the Atlas of Human Development in Brazil. Data analysis was by binomial regression model, Pearson correlation and Kolmogorov-Smirnov Test. Results: 327 cases of human visceral leishmaniasis and 6,353 cases of canine visceral leishmaniasis were confirmed. The main municipal indicators have a significant relationship with the number of cases of the disease in the state, and a strong relationship with the number of positive cases for Human Visceral Leishmaniasis. Conclusion: the model can be used as a reference to analyze the distribution of cases of human visceral leishmaniasis and the possible factors that influence its occurrence, providing municipal managers with another alternative for carrying out control/prevention measures for the disease, involving several sectors.

Métodos: estudio ecológico, desarrollado con datos de 2012 a 2017, recogidos en un laboratorio de referencia en el estado y en el Atlas de Desarrollo Humano de Brasil. El análisis de los datos se realizó mediante el modelo de regresión binomial, la correlación de Pearson y la prueba de Kolmogorov-Smirnov. Resultados: se confirmaron 327 casos de leishmaniosis visceral humana y 6.353 casos de leishmaniosis visceral canina. Los principales indicadores municipales tienen una relación significativa con el número de casos de la enfermedad en el estado, y una fuerte relación con el número de casos positivos para Leishmaniasis Visceral Humana. Conclusión: el modelo puede ser utilizado como referencia para analizar la distribución de los casos de leishmaniasis visceral humana y los posibles factores que influyen en su aparición, proporcionando a los gestores municipales una alternativa más para llevar a cabo medidas de control/prevención de la enfermedad, implicando a diversos sectores.

Método Trata-se de uma revisão integrativa utilizando os descritores em saúde: “health promotion”, “art therapy”, “quality of life” e “aged”. Foram selecionados artigos originais completos, nos idiomas português, inglês e espanhol. Não foi estabelecido período de publicação dos artigos para obter um maior quantitativo de artigos publicados no decorrer do tempo. A busca e a seleção dos artigos incluídos foram realizadas por dois revisores no período de novembro de 2019 a abril de 2020. Resultados Dos quatros artigos selecionados para compor a amostra, dois artigos estavam escritos em inglês e dois em português. Os artigos incluídos foram publicados no período entre 2007 e 2014. Quanto às bases de dados, dois artigos estavam indexados na Scopus, um nas bases Scopus/Pubmed/BVS e um na base CINAHL. Os recursos expressivos utilizados no processo arteterapêutico foram os mais variados: pintura, desenho, modelagem, expressão corporal entre outros Conclusão A utilização da arteterapia para promoção da saúde em idosos mostrou benefícios na redução dos fatores negativos de ordem afetiva, emocional social. Os artigos analisados sugerem o efeito positivo da arteterapia na qualidade de vida em idosos.

Abstract Objective to analyze the contributions of art therapy in promoting the health and quality of life of older adults. Method an integrative review was carried out using the health descriptors: “health promotion”, “art therapy”, “quality of life” and “aged”. Complete original articles were selected, in Portuguese, English and Spanish, and the period of publication of the articles was not defined to obtain a greater number of articles published. The search and selection of the articles included were carried out by two reviewers from November 2019 to April 2020. Results of the four articles selected to compose the sample, two were written in English and two in Portuguese. The articles included were published between 2007 and 2014, with two indexed in Scopus, one in the Scopus / PubMed / BVS databases and one in the CINAHL database. The expressive resources used in the art therapy process were varied: painting, drawing, modeling, body expression, among others. Conclusion the use of art therapy for health promotion in older adults demonstrated benefits in reducing negative factors of an affective, emotional and social nature. The articles analyzed suggest the positive effect of art therapy on quality of life in older adults.

Resumo Introdução Pessoas com Deficiência (PcD) são aquelas que possuem alteração física, intelectual, social ou emocional. Podem ter impedimentos que duram um curto período de tempo ou por toda sua vida. Objetivo Descrever o perfil clínico dos pacientes com deficiência internados no Instituto de Saúde da Criança do Amazonas (ICAM). Material e método Foram analisados 34 pacientes e coletados dados, como gênero, faixa etária, procedência, patologia de base e condição de saúde bucal. Os dados obtidos foram organizados e tabulados no Microsoft Excel 2013. Resultado Na distribuição por gênero, verificou-se 70% do gênero masculino (mais prevalente) e 30% do feminino. Quanto à faixa etária, a idade predominante foi 8 anos. A maioria dos pacientes (60%) era do interior do Amazonas e 40% eram da capital. No que diz respeito à patologia, a Doença Neurológica teve prevalência em 44% dos casos, seguida das seguintes patologias: Síndrome de Down 18%, Transtorno de Espectro Autista 12%, Mielomeningocele 12%, Surdez 3%, Diabetes 3%, Síndrome de Prader Willi 3%, Síndrome Moebius 3% e Síndrome de Lennox 3%. Na condição bucal, 44% da amostra teve condição precária, 32% deficiente e 24% satisfatória. Conclusão A maioria das crianças era do gênero masculino, faixa etária de 8 anos, procedentes do interior do Amazonas, com deficiência neurológica e condição bucal precária, sugerindo que a presença do cirurgião-dentista, compondo a equipe multidisciplinar hospitalar, auxilia a traçar um plano de tratamento preventivo e curativo adequado a esses indivíduos.

Abstract Introduction Disabled people is anybody that has physical, intellectual, social or emotional alteration. They can have impediments that last for a short period of time or for the entire life. Objective Describe the clinical profile of disabled patients admitted to Instituto de Saúde da Criança do Amazonas (ICAM). Material and method Thirty-four patients were analyzed, data such as gender, age, origin, basis pathology and oral health condition were collected. The data obtained were organized and tabulated in Microsoft Excel 2013. Result There was a prevalence of males with 70% and 30% females. The age group had a predominance of 8 years. Most of the patients 60% were from Amazonas inland cities and 40% from the capital. Regarding to the pathology, Neurological Disease was prevalent in 44% of the cases, followed by the following: Down Syndrome 18%, Autistic Spectrum Disorder 12%, Myelomeningocele 12%, Deafness 3%, Diabetes 3%, Prader Willi Syndrome 3%, Moebius Syndrome 3% and Lenox Syndrome 3%. Concerning to oral condition, 44% showed a poor oral condition, 32% deficient and 24% satisfactory. Conclusion Most of the children were male, 8 years old, from Amazonas inland cities, with neurological deficiency and poor oral condition, suggesting that the presence of the dental surgeon composing the multidisciplinary hospital team helps to outline a preventive and curative treatment plan suitable for these individuals.

Resumo O estudo teve como objetivo revisar sistematicamente a literatura para identificar a prevalência de crianças e adolescentes brasileiros que atendem aos critérios de saúde para aptidão cardiorrespiratória (CRF). A busca foi realizada nas bases de dados eletrônicas (PubMED, SciELO, LILACS, Scopus, SPORTDiscus e Web of Science) e lista de referências dos artigos identificados. Os critérios de inclusão foram: população considerada criança e/ou adolescente (idade de 0 a 19 anos ou com média de idade até 19 anos); estudos com amostra de crianças e/ou adolescentes de nacionalidade brasileira e estudos observacionais com delineamento transversal ou longitudinal. O processo de análise dos estudos envolveu leitura de títulos, resumos e textos completos. Após essas fases, 60 artigos foram elegíveis. Em relação ao delineamento, dois estudos foram longitudinais. Do total de estudos incluídos, 49 estudos apresentaram valores moderados para qualidade metodológica e 11 apresentaram valores baixos para qualidade metodológica, conforme instrumento da National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute. As prevalências de crianças e adolescentes que atenderam aos critérios de saúde para CRF variaram entre os estudos (7.5% a 70.4%), sendo essa variação maior nas meninas que nos meninos. Total de 49.093 jovens de seis a 19 anos foi pesquisado ao computar todos esses estudos e isso resultou em 32,2% de sujeitos (27,7% dos meninos e 28,4% das meninas) com níveis adequados de CRF para a saúde ao redor do Brasil. Esses resultados podem auxiliar no rastreamento da população pediátrica que se encontra em risco se for considerado a CRF como medida de saúde.

Abstract The study aimed to systematically review the literature to identify the prevalence of Brazilian children and adolescents that meet health criteria for cardiorespiratory fitness (CRF). The search was performed in the electronic databases (PubMED, SciELO, LILACS, Scopus, SPORTDiscus and Web of Science) and list of references of identified articles. Inclusion criteria were: population composed of children and/or adolescents (0-19 years or average age up to 19 years); studies with Brazilian children and/or adolescents and observational studies with cross-sectional or longitudinal design. The process of analysis of studies involved reading titles, abstracts and full texts. After these phases, 60 articles were eligible. Regarding the design, two studies were longitudinal. Of the total studies included, 49 presented moderate methodological quality values and 11 presented low methodological quality values, according to National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute instrument. The prevalence of children and adolescents who met CRF health criteria varied among studies (7.5% to 70.4%), and this variation was higher in girls than in boys. Total of 49.093 individuals aged 6-19 years were surveyed to compute all of these studies, resulting in 32.2% of subjects (27.7% of boys and 28.4% of girls) with CRF levels adequate for health around Brazil. These results may help to screen the pediatric population at risk if CRF is considered as a health measure.

Abstract Evolutionary analyses have been widely used for evaluation of genetic diversity of natural populations and correlate these data to the fitness of the species, especially in the case of threatened species. Calydorea crocoides occurs in a restricted area at altitudes from 800 to 1500 m in southern Brazil and is considered endangered. A study assessing genetic diversity, cytogenetic features and ecological niche was performed aiming to characterize C. crocoides by multidisciplinary approaches. Molecular data highlighted that most of the total variation (76%; p < 0.001) was found within populations and the parameters of genetic diversity were high at the species level (PPB = 98.97%; I = 0.4319; h = 0.2821). Gene flow (Nm) was estimated in 0.97 individuals per generation. Cytogenetically, C. crocoides presents a bimodal karyotype and low asymmetry. DAPI banding pattern was uniform, but the CMA-signal evidenced a pericentric inversion in the population ESC688. The species presents high pollen viability and two different morphologies of pollen grains. Our data showed high levels of polymorphism maintained in this species that could ensure conservationist practices in which the main goal is to preserve the evolutionary potential of the species through the maintenance of genetic diversity.

Abstract Objective This randomized, controlled, double-blind clinical study evaluated the effect of calcium sodium phosphosilicate (NovaMin) and casein phosphopeptide-amorphous calcium phosphate with fluoride (CPP-ACPF) on the prevention of post-operative sensitivity and on the effects of clinical bleaching treatment. Material and Methods Sixty volunteers were selected according to inclusion and exclusion criteria and were randomly assigned into three groups (n=20): CG (control group) patients, who were treated with 35% hydrogen peroxide; NOVAG (NovaMin group) patients, who were treated with 35% hydrogen peroxide followed by the application of NovaMin; and CPPG (CPP group) patients, who were treated with 35% hydrogen peroxide followed by the application of CPP-ACPF. Both bioactive agents were applied for five minutes. An evaporative stimulus associated with a modified visual scale was used to analyze sensitivity 24 hours after each bleaching session. The color evaluation was performed on the maxillary central incisors using a spectrophotometer. Associations between the intervention group, bleaching session, and reported sensitivity were tested using Chi-square partitioning. Results Color change values (ΔE) were analyzed using analysis of variance (ANOVA). The significance level used for both tests was 5%. In the intragroup assessment, the Friedman test showed that only the CPP-ACPF group showed no statistically significant difference (p<0.05) between baseline and first bleaching session. In the intergroup assessment, the Kruskal–Wallis test showed that the CPPG had less postoperative sensitivity after the first session, when compared to the other groups (p<0.05). Color change analysis (ΔE) showed a significant difference between the means obtained in the different bleaching sessions in all groups (p<0.05). Conclusions This study showed that the combination of CPP-ACPF with 35% hydrogen peroxide significantly reduced post-operative sensitivity in the first session, compared with the other evaluated treatments. The association of CPP-ACPF and NovaMin did not affect the color change induced by tooth bleaching.

Resumo O excesso de adiposidade corporal está associado a doenças crônicas degenerativas, sendo problema global de saúde pública. O objetivo do estudo foi verificar a associação da obesidade com fatores sociodemográficos, estilo de vida (atividade física, hábitos alimentares) e maturação sexual em estudantes do ensino médio de uma cidade do sul do Brasil. Estudo transversal com 820 adolescentes de escolas públicas de São José, Santa Catarina, Brasil, com idade de 14 a 17 anos. A obesidade foi estimada por meio do percentual de gordura corporal (%G). O %G foi calculado por meio da equação de Lohman que considera o somatório de dobras cutâneas (Tríceps e Subescapular). Usou-se os pontos de corte proposto por Willian et al. para classificar os jovens em eutróficos ou obesos. As variáveis independentes foram sexo, idade, nível econômico, escolaridade dos pais, hábitos alimentares, nível de atividade física e maturação sexual. A prevalência de obesidade foi de 17,2%. O sexo feminino (OR: 4,22; IC95%: 2,72-6,54) e os jovens no estágio pós-púbere de maturação sexual (OR: 1,95; IC95%:1,33-2,86) apresentaram maiores chances de obesidade. Estes resultados podem auxiliar as autoridades do município para o planejamento de políticas públicas de prevenção a obesidade.

Abstract Excess body fat is associated with chronic degenerative diseases, being a global public health problem. The aim of this study was to investigate the association of obesity with sociodemographic factors, lifestyle (physical activity, dietary habits) and sexual maturation in high school students of a city in southern Brazil. This is a cross-sectional study with 820 adolescents enrolled in public high schools of São José, Santa Catarina, Brazil, aged 14-17 years. Obesity was estimated by body fat percentage (BF%). BF% was calculated using the Lohman equation, which considers the sum of skinfolds (triceps and subscapularis). Cutoff points proposed by William et al. were used to classify individuals into normal weight or obese. Independent variables were sex, age, economic status, parental education, eating habits, physical activity and sexual maturation. The prevalence of obesity was 17.2%. Females (OR: 4.22; 95% CI: 2.72-6.54) and young people at post-pubertal stage of sexual maturation (OR: 1.95; 95% CI: 1.33-2.86) were more likely to have obesity. These results may help health authorities in the planning of public policies to prevent obesity.
