Abstract The rupture of the anterior cruciate ligament is common during physical activities; however, when associated with a multiple ligament injury, it represents an uncommon condition. The diagnosis of this injury is commonly delayed or missed. Consequently, the incidence of this injury may in fact be higher than reported. We present a case of a 27-year-old man with complete tear of the anterior cruciate ligament and of the medial collateral ligament and partial tear of the posterior cruciate, lateral collateral and patellar ligaments treated surgically.

Abstract Aims: This study aims to know the perception of the family medicine residents concerning their personal opinions and knowledge about deprescription. Methods: Cross-sectional study. The data was collected through a survey sent to interns of family medicine across the country by email. The survey contained three open questions, twenty-two statements to classify using a 5-point Likert scale, five multiple choice sociodemographic questions, and whether deprescription has been a subject discussed in their professional journey and at what stage. Results: One hundred and six valid answers were obtained: 76.4% were female, 70.8% were between 25 and 30 years old, and 34% were first-year family medicine residents. Most of the participants agree that deprescribing is beneficial and the barriers include health literacy, time per appointment, and the lack of information for doctors and patients. Conclusion: The results underline how important deprescribing is for the residents and the need to adopt strategies for its implementation. It is important to deepen the theme to determine how to have easier adherence from the patient and to create guidelines that help doctors optimize deprescribing.

BACKGROUND Eosinophils are granulocytes that rapidly increase frequency in the bloodstream during helminthic infections and allergic responses. They are found in tissue infected by Leishmania during early disease, but their role during infection is not entirely understood. OBJECTIVES We aim to compare the disease due to Leishmania amazonensis in BALB/c and Δdbl-GATA1 mice, which lack eosinophils. METHODS BALB/c and Δdbl-GATA1 mice infected with L. amazonensis were observed for several weeks. The parasite load and dissemination pattern were assessed. FINDINGS The Δdbl-GATA1 mice developed an anticipated dissemination of L. amazonensis and a worsening disease. No differences were found in the lesion development or the parasite load in the footpad among Δdbl-GATA1 mice and BALB/c eight weeks after infection. However, nine weeks after infection, massive growth of metastatic lesions appeared in several parts of the skin in Δdbl-GATA1 mice, weeks earlier than BALB/c. We observed increased parasites in the bloodstream, probably an essential dissemination route. Thirteen weeks after infection, metastatic lesions were found in all Δdbl-GATA1 mice. MAIN CONCLUSION These results suggest a protective role of eosinophils in delaying the disease caused by L. amazonensis, although several limitations of this mice strain must be considered. responses understood BALBc BALB c ΔdblGATA1 ΔdblGATA Δdbl GATA1 GATA Δdbl-GATA L assessed However route considered

ABSTRACT The limited temporal completeness and taxonomic accuracy of species lists, made available in a traditional manner in scientific publications, has always represented a problem. These lists are invariably limited to a few taxonomic groups and do not represent up-to-date knowledge of all species and classifications. In this context, the Brazilian megadiverse fauna is no exception, and the Catálogo Taxonômico da Fauna do Brasil (CTFB) (http://fauna.jbrj.gov.br/), made public in 2015, represents a database on biodiversity anchored on a list of valid and expertly recognized scientific names of animals in Brazil. The CTFB is updated in near real time by a team of more than 800 specialists. By January 1, 2024, the CTFB compiled 133,691 nominal species, with 125,138 that were considered valid. Most of the valid species were arthropods (82.3%, with more than 102,000 species) and chordates (7.69%, with over 11,000 species). These taxa were followed by a cluster composed of Mollusca (3,567 species), Platyhelminthes (2,292 species), Annelida (1,833 species), and Nematoda (1,447 species). All remaining groups had less than 1,000 species reported in Brazil, with Cnidaria (831 species), Porifera (628 species), Rotifera (606 species), and Bryozoa (520 species) representing those with more than 500 species. Analysis of the CTFB database can facilitate and direct efforts towards the discovery of new species in Brazil, but it is also fundamental in providing the best available list of valid nominal species to users, including those in science, health, conservation efforts, and any initiative involving animals. The importance of the CTFB is evidenced by the elevated number of citations in the scientific literature in diverse areas of biology, law, anthropology, education, forensic science, and veterinary science, among others. publications problem uptodate up date classifications context exception (CTFB http//fauna.jbrj.gov.br/, httpfaunajbrjgovbr http //fauna.jbrj.gov.br/ , jbrj gov br (http://fauna.jbrj.gov.br/) 2015 Brazil 80 specialists 1 2024 133691 133 691 133,69 125138 125 138 125,13 82.3%, 823 82 3 (82.3% 102000 102 000 102,00 7.69%, 769 7 69 (7.69% 11000 11 11,00 . 3,567 3567 567 (3,56 2,292 2292 2 292 (2,29 1,833 1833 833 (1,83 1,447 1447 447 (1,44 1000 1,00 831 (83 628 (62 606 (60 520 (52 50 users science health biology law anthropology education others http//fauna.jbrj.gov.br/ faunajbrjgovbr //fauna.jbrj.gov.br (http://fauna.jbrj.gov.br/ 201 8 202 13369 13 133,6 12513 12 125,1 82.3% (82.3 10200 10 00 102,0 7.69% 76 6 (7.69 1100 11,0 3,56 356 56 (3,5 2,29 229 29 (2,2 1,83 183 83 (1,8 1,44 144 44 (1,4 100 1,0 (8 62 (6 60 52 (5 5 http//fauna.jbrj.gov.br (http://fauna.jbrj.gov.br 20 1336 133, 1251 125, 82.3 (82. 1020 0 102, 7.69 (7.6 110 11, 3,5 35 (3, 2,2 22 (2, 1,8 18 (1, 1,4 14 4 ( 82. Abstract The Urban Heat Island (UHI) effect, where urban regions experience higher temperatures than their rural counterparts, is a well-observed phenomenon with consequences such as health issues and increased energy consumption. In the Metropolitan Area of São Paulo (MASP), a dense urban zone with over 20 million inhabitants, the UHI effect is intensified due to rapid and unplanned urbanization. This research utilized meteorological data from MASP's weather stations and employed the k-means clustering algorithm to identify regions with pronounced UHI intensity. The study revealed four distinct clusters, with Cluster A exhibiting the most significant UHI effect. This effect was related with land use patterns, particularly the dominance of residential and commercial areas and a lack of green spaces. Seasonal variations in the UHI effect were also observed. The findings highlight the impact of urban development on localized climate change and provide valuable insights for urban planning and policy-making in MASP. Future studies could expand on these findings by including more variables and examining other global urban regions. ABSTRACT Background: The riverine communities of the Amazon comprise different social groups that inhabit the rural areas on the banks of rivers and lakes. Residents usually travel by river to rural and urban areas and are then exposed to urbanized diseases such as those caused by arbovirus infection. In Brazil, emerging diseases such as dengue, Zika, chikungunya, and those caused by infection with Oropouche and Mayaro viruses necessitate epidemiological surveillance. This study was aimed at determining the frequency of positivity for immunoglobulin (Ig)G and IgM antibodies against Zika, chikungunya, and dengue viruses and performing molecular analyses to detect viral RNA for the Zika, chikungunya, dengue virus, Oropouche, and Mayaro viruses, in the same serum samples obtained from riverside populations. Methods: This cross-sectional study was conducted in a riverside population in the Humaitá municipality of the Brazilian Amazon. More than 80% of the local population participated in this study. Entomological samples were collected to identify local mosquito vectors. Results: Analysis of 205 human serological samples revealed IgG antibodies against the dengue virus in 85 individuals. No molecular positivity was observed in human samples. Entomological analyses revealed 3,187 Diptera species, with Mansonia being the most frequent genus. Aedes aegypti and Aedes albopictus were not detected in the two collections. Conclusions: IgG antibodies against the dengue virus were highly prevalent, suggesting previous exposure. The absence of the arbovirus vectors Aedes aegypti and Aedes albopictus in the samples supports the hypothesis that the infections recorded likely occurred outside the riverside communities investigated. Abstract Multivariate training programmes are widely recognised as an effective strategy for developing the skills necessary for good performance in the collective modalities addressed in physical education. The aim of this study was to verify the correlation between tactical performance and physical fitness levels in young secondary school students during the teaching of the didactic unit of basketball using a multivariate training programme. A group of forty-seven students from a Portuguese school volunteered to participate in the study. A correlational study was used to verify the association between tactical performance and physical fitness while teaching the Basketball Didactic Unit based on TGFU (i.e., 6 weeks) in two different moments. All subjects were randomly divided into two groups (control and experimental) and assessed at two different moments: before the teaching of the didactic unit (pre-test) and at the end of the teaching of the didactic unit (post-test). Tactical performance in basketball was assessed using the Game Performance Assessment Instrument (GPAI), while physical fitness was assessed using some physical tests from the FitEscola battery. Overall, the multivariate training programme did not differentiate the magnitudes of the correlations between the variables analysed. However, it is confirmed that the multivariate training programme seems to emerge as a positive and differentiating pedagogical strategy that should be integrated into physical education classes.

ABSTRACT Objective: To report outcomes from the largest multicenter series of penile cancer patients undergoing video endoscopic inguinal lymphadenectomy (VEIL). Materials and Methods: Retrospective multicenter analysis. Authors of 21 centers from the Penile Cancer Collaborative Coalition-Latin America (PeC-LA) were included. All centers performed the procedure following the same previously described standardized technique. Inclusion criteria included penile cancer patients with no palpable lymph nodes and intermediate/high-risk disease and those with non-fixed palpable lymph nodes less than 4 cm in diameter. Categorical variables are shown as percentages and frequencies whereas continuous variables as mean and range. Results: From 2006 to 2020, 210 VEIL procedures were performed in 105 patients. Mean age was 58 (45-68) years old. Mean operative time was 90 minutes (60-120). Mean lymph node yield was 10 nodes (6-16). Complication rate was 15.7%, including severe complications in 1.9% of procedures. Lymphatic and skin complications were noted in 8.6 and 4.8% of patients, respectively. Histopathological analysis revealed lymph node involvement in 26.7% of patients with non-palpable nodes. Inguinal recurrence was observed in 2.8% of patients. 10y- overall survival was 74.2% and 10-y cancer specific survival was 84.8%. CSS for pN0, pN1, pN2 and pN3 were 100%, 82.4%, 72.7% and 9.1%, respectively. Conclusion: VEIL seems to offer appropriate long term oncological control with minimal morbidity. In the absence of non-invasive stratification measures such as dynamic sentinel node biopsy, VEIL emerged as the alternative for the management of non-bulky lymph nodes in penile cancer. Abstract This study aimed to identify the acculturative orientations of a Brazilian host community from a small countryside city toward Haitian immigrants and investigate which factors related to racial prejudice, quality of life, and sociodemographic characteristics were associated with adopted acculturative orientations. Eighty-eight host community members were interviewed, and the results indicated that the most adopted acculturative orientations are individualism and integration. Higher quality of life and lesser racial prejudice are related to individualism and integration. In contrast, lower perceived quality of life and greater racial prejudice are connected to segregation and exclusionism. The results show the importance of a migratory policy that follows the integrative model, informing the population about the theme and focusing on actions that can tackle racial prejudice, which is the leading sphere in acculturative orientations that exclude Haitian immigrants from society.

ABSTRACT Patient and Public Involvement (PPI) in research should focus on the engagement of patients/carers in every stage of the research cycle. However, the inconsistent level of education and research experience may compromise this involvement and training and support are recommended. In Portugal, consistent training to empower patients in their health decisions, or to be involved in research is neither available nor adapted for the patients and public. Our main goal is to develop and deliver the first high-quality and comprehensive online educational programme for adult patients with asthma and their carers, based on patients’/carers’ needs and preferences. The project includes four tasks. In Task 1, we will identify and organise the most important topics on asthma and health research, based on the identification of educational needs of adult patients/carers with asthma and the expertise of asthma specialists, using Delphi methodology. In Task 2, we will design and implement a high-quality, free, online self-learning programme based on reliable sources of information and on patients’/carers’ preferences. In Task 3, we will assess its feasibility, satisfaction and impact. Finally, Task 4 will be centred on the management and dissemination. Patients and carers will be actively engaged in all stages of this project as co-researchers, including the writing of this protocol. By the end of this project, we expect to have implemented the first high-quality, free-of-charge, online self-learning programme on asthma and health research, adapted for adult patients with asthma and their carers. It will be available for all patients/carers not only from Portugal but also from all Lusophone countries. This programme will empower patients and carers to increase their knowledge about the disease, develop new skills and have the opportunity to learn about research. Ultimately, it will introduce the knowledge patients/carers need to represent themselves and influence health policies in Portugal successfully.
