OBJECTIVE: Molecular detection of HEV in pig livers destined for human consumption in Nuevo Leon, Mexico. MATERIALS AND METHODS: 87 livers were collected from pigs slaughtered in TIF and 40 livers from butchers. A 212 pb fragment of HEV ORF2 gene was amplified by semi-nested RT-PCR. RESULTS: 19.54% (17) of tif's and 22.5% (9) of buthcer's livers were positive for HEV. Sequencing of the amplified products showed a 94%-95% homology with the sequences reported for genotype 3. CONCLUSIONS: Our results indicate that HEV is circulating in swine herds in the state, constituting a probable source of contamination of pig meat products.

MATERIAL Y MÉTODOS Se analizaron 127 hígados de cerdo (87 obtenidos de rastros TIF, y 40 de carnicerías) mediante RT-PCR semianidado para amplificar un fragmento de 212 pb del gen ORF2 del VHE. RESULTADOS: El 19.5% (17) de los hígados de rastros y 22.5% (9) de carnicerías fueron positivos. La secuenciación mostró 94-95% de homología con el genotipo 3. CONCLUSIONES: Los resultados indican que el VHE circula en granjas porcinas del estado, lo que constituye una probable fuente de contaminación para los productos cárnicos porcinos.

A floristic study of the municipality of Atenango del Río, in the State of Guerrero, Mexico, is presented. Botanical collections made over a period of a year, supplemented by a literature search and herbarium work, resulted in the identification of 643 species and 349 genera in 95 families. The families with the most species are Leguminosae (96 species), Compositae (75), Euphorbiaceae (42), and Gramineae (29). The study denotes the presence 49 species endemic to the Balsas River Basin that are present in Atenango del Río.

Se presenta la riqueza florística del municipio Atenango del Río en el estado de Guerrero, México. Para ello se elaboró la lista de las especies de plantas vasculares con base en la colecta realizada durante un año en todo el municipio, así como en la revisión de material de herbario y de literatura. Los resultados muestran una cifra de 643 especies, distribuidas en 349 géneros y en 95 familias para el municipio. Las familias mejor representadas, a nivel de especie, en la zona son: Leguminosae con 96 especies, Compositae con 75, Euphorbiaceae con 42 y Graminae tiene 29. Destaca la presencia de 49 especies que restringen su distribución a la cuenca del Balsas y que están presentes en Atenango del Río.

A preliminary study was carried out to obtain serological evidence of the presence of the porcine respiratory and reproductive syndrome (PRRS) virus and the risk of infection in different areas and phases of production in five full cycle pig farms in the state of Nuevo Leon, Mexico. Sixty blood samples of each farm were obtained (10 for each phase of production: weaning, growing, finishing, pregnancy, lactation and mating-service). The detection of antibodies against the PRRS virus was carried out using a commercial kit. All farms were positives in all phases of production. The highest seroprevalences were found in the growing and finishing phases (36% y 56%, respectively).

Se realizó un estudio preliminar para obtener evidencia serológica de la presencia del virus del síndrome respiratorio y reproductivo porcino (PRRS, por sus siglas en inglés) y del riesgo de infección en las diferentes áreas y etapas de producción en cinco granjas porcinas de ciclo completo en Nuevo León, México. Se obtuvieron 60 muestras de sangre de cada granja (diez para cada etapa de producción: destete, iniciación, finalización, cerdas gestantes, lactando o en monta-servicio). La detección de anticuerpos antivirus del PRRS se realizó utilizando un equipo comercial. Todas las granjas resultaron positivas en las diferentes etapas de producción. La seroprevalencia fue mayor en las etapas de inicio y finalización (36% y 56%, respectivamente).
