Abstract Setting out from testimonies presented by members of movements of relatives of the victims of police violence during the Public Hearing on ADPF 635, in April 2021, the article explores some of the connections between terror and intimacy. Abstract: Taking the form of a commentary upon Textures of the Ordinary: Doing Anthropology after Wittgenstein by Veena Das, the present article explores the complexity of ethnographic time and its relationship to writing in the author’s work. In this process, it highlights the extent to which the attention to the everyday and the ordinary advocated by the anthropologist entails highly singular modes of registering the limitations and commitments of our work as ethnographers. The text also discusses how, in Das’ book, the “tolerance of obscurity” implies ethical and aesthetic movements that reveal themselves in their capacity to return to earlier writings, compose heterogenic temporalities, and leave significant reflexive hesitations that produce unique openings in our comprehension of the work of anthropology as something marked by losses and reconfigurations. Resumo Em diálogo com reflexões de Veena Das, este artigo explora algumas dimensões presentes em um percurso etnográfico centrado na relação com familiares de vítimas de violência do Estado. Palavras, tempos e relações configuram o eixo em torno do qual duas diferentes situações de pesquisa são elaboradas. A primeira delas é pensada a partir da imagem do estilhaço, fragmento que surpreende e produz a sensação de falta de compreensão sobre o que se desenrola. A segunda situação se constrói sob o regime da conversa, permitindo refletir sobre diferentes dimensões de intimidade e desconhecimento que atravessam uma relação de pesquisa e confiança.

Abstract In dialogue with reflections by Veena Das, this article explores some dimensions present in an ethnographic journey centered on the relationship with family members of state violence victims. Words, times, and relations set up the axis around which two different research situations are elaborated. The first of them is thought of from the image of the shrapnel, a fragment that surprises and generates feelings of bewilderment towards what is unfolding. The second situation is built under the regime of conversation, allowing for reflection on different dimensions of intimacy and not-knowing that permeate a relationship of research and trust.

Resumo Apresentação da entrevista com Veena Das e do conjunto de textos relacionados à sua obra que compõem o presente volume de Sociologia & Antropologia. Na entrevista, Das trata da imbricação entre escrita e formas de vida; de sua infância e da presença de crianças em suas pesquisas; das implicações de assimetrias e de relacionamentos longos em pesquisas etnográficas; da relação entre filosofia e antropologia em sua trajetória; do sânscrito e de diálogos de alguns filósofos com o sânscrito. Tece considerações também acerca da articulação entre gênero e produção de conhecimento; da relação entre desejo, ritual e religião; da noção de “texturas”, que dá título a seu livro recém-lançado; de alguns aspectos da recepção do livro; da orientação de pesquisadores; das formas colaborativas de pesquisa que realiza; das dinâmicas do sistema universitário norte-americano; e, ainda, do lugar da alegria e do desejo na produção de conhecimento antropológico.

Abstract Presentation of the interview with Veena Das and the set of texts related to her work published in the current volume of Sociologia & Antropologia. In the interview, Das talks about the imbrication between writing and forms of life; her childhood and the presence of children in her research; the implications of asymmetries and long-term relationships in ethnographic research; the relationship between philosophy and anthropology in her trajectory; Sanskrit and the dialogues of some philosophers with Sanskrit. She also comments on the articulation between gender and knowledge production; the relationship between desire, ritual and religion; the notion of “textures”, which gives the title to her recently-released book; some aspects of the reception of the book; the activity of mentoring young researchers; collaborative forms of research; the dynamics of the North American university system; and the place of joy and desire in the production of anthropological knowledge.

Resumo O ensaio parte da publicação em português do livro Vida e Palavras: A Violência e sua Descida ao Ordinário, de Veena Das, para discutir alguns elementos de sua obra que têm impactado a antropologia no Brasil. Em um primeiro momento, discorre sobre a recepção de seu trabalho desde meados dos anos 1990 no Brasil, para, em seguida, oferecer uma leitura sobre Vida e Palavras. Em sua última parte, o ensaio busca conectar reflexões sobre ética e etnografia presentes no livro com alguns textos posteriores da autora, sublinhando em especial a noção de ética ordinária.

Abstract Starting from the publication of the Portuguese translation of Veena Das’s Life and Words: Violence and the Descent into the Ordinary (Vida e Palavras: A Violência e sua Descida ao Ordinário), this essay discusses certain aspects of that book which have had an impact on anthropology in Brazil. First it traces the reception of her work in Brazil during the 1990s, and then provides an interpretation of Life and Words. Finally, the essay seeks to connect the reflections on ethics and ethnography presented in the book with some of the author's posterior work, focusing specifically on the notion of ordinary ethics.

Resumen El ensayo parte de la publicación en portugués de libro Vida e Palavras: A Violência e sua Descida ao Ordinário, de Veena Das, para discutir algunos elementos de su obra que han impactado la antropología en Brasil. En un primer momento, discurre sobre la recepción de su trabajo desde mediados de la década de 1990 en Brasil, luego ofrece una lectura sobre Vida e Palavras. En su última parte, el ensayo busca conectar reflexiones sobre ética y etnografía presentes en el libro con algunos textos posteriores de la autora, recalcando en especial la noción de ética ordinaria.

Resumo O artigo discute as relações de mútua constituição entre gênero e Estado. As implicações teóricas e metodológicas dessa proposta são exploradas em diálogo com etnografias nas quais a temática da violência comparece como vetor heurístico privilegiado para compreender tal coprodução.

Abstract This article discusses the relations of mutual constitution between gender and state. The theoretical and methodological implications of this proposal are explored in dialog with ethnographies in which the theme of violence appears as a privileged heuristic vector for understanding this coproduction.

O artigo busca discutir relações entre "violência" e "gênero" a partir de situações envolvendo formas de "luta por justiça" e expressão da dor por familiares de pessoas mortas pela polícia militar no Rio de Janeiro. Acompanhando situações diversas em que tais familiares, agrupados em redes de apoio e de organização política, buscam a condenação judicial dos policiais que mataram seus filhos, irmãos ou sobrinhos, procuramos refletir sobre o trabalho social de construção da "violência" e ilegitimidade desses assassinatos como inextricavelmente ligados às gramáticas de gênero e, em especial, ao protagonismo simbólico das "mães".

This work discusses relations between "violence" and "gender" by focusing situations involving forms of "struggle for justice" and the expression of pain by relatives of persons killed by Rio de Janeiro's military police. By following different situations where those relatives, connected in networks of support and political organization, seek the conviction of the policemen that have killed their sons, brothers or nephews, we reflect on the work of social construction of "violence" and illegitimacy of these murders as being inseparably connected to grammars of gender, especially to the symbolic protagonism of "mothers".

OBJETIVO: avaliar a aplicação de um programa de intervenção multidisciplinar educativo em mulheres com gestação de alto risco devido a doenças endócrinas. MÉTODOS: avaliamos retrospectivamente a aplicação de um programa educativo multidisciplinar em 185 gestantes com doenças endócrinas referenciadas para uma maternidade especializada em gestação de alto risco. As gestantes receberam atenção pré-natal multidisciplinar por times compostos por endocrinologistas, obstetras, ultrassonografistas, enfermeiras e nutricionistas. Informações orais e escritas sobre hábitos saudáveis, cuidados com diabetes, uso de adoçantes artificiais e exercícios na gestação foram passadas na primeira consulta endocrinológica. Plano nutricional individualizado foi feito em primeira visita à nutricionista. Nas reavaliações mensais com nutricionista e quinzenais com endocrinologista, as informações sobre mudanças saudáveis no estilo de vida eram reforçadas e o peso registrado. O grau de aderência à dieta e atividade física foi autorreferido. Comparou-se o peso semanal antes e após a intervenção multidisciplinar, peso fetal ao nascimento, taxa de macrossomia e baixo peso, e a frequência de parto cesário nas quatro categorias de índice de massa corpórea (IMC) pré-gestacional (<18,5; 18,5 a 24,9; 25 a 29,9 e >30 kg/m²). RESULTADOS: a principal patologia de encaminhamento foi o diabetes (84,9%). Um terço das gestantes (31,2%) era composto por portadoras de sobrepeso e 42,5% tinham obesidade pré-gestacional. A maior parte das gestantes foi vista pela primeira vez pela equipe multidisciplinar no terceiro trimestre (64,1%), e 50,5% delas excederam o ganho de peso recomendado para toda a gestação à primeira avaliação. Gestantes obesas excederam o ganho de peso recomendado em 62,5% dos casos. Após a intervenção multidisciplinar, o percentual de gestantes que excedeu o ganho de peso semanal recomendado reduziu em todas as categorias de IMC pré-gestacional (IMCPG), embora diferença estatisticamente significativa tenha sido encontrada apenas no grupo com IMCPG normal (40,6 versus 21,9%, p=0,03). Média do peso fetal ao nascer foi similar entre as categoriais de IMC (p=0,277); entretanto, macrossomia foi mais frequente nas mulheres com sobrepeso e obesidade pré-gestacional. Cesariana foi a via mais frequente de parto, independentemente do IMCPG. CONCLUSÕES: em gestações de alto risco devido a doenças endócrinas, abordagem multidisciplinar educativa limita o excessivo ganho de peso semanal apesar da idade gestacional avançada.

PURPOSE: to investigate the application of a multidisciplinary educational program to high-risk pregnancies due to endocrine diseases. METHODS: we retrospectively evaluated the application of a multidisciplinary educational program to 185 pregnant women with endocrine diseases referred to a maternity specialized in high-risk pregnancy. All pregnant women received multidisciplinary prenatal care from a team consisting of endocrinologists, obstetricians, sonographers, nurses and dietitians. Oral and written information about healthy habits, diabetes care, use of artificial sweeteners and exercise during pregnancy was given to all patients at the first endocrine consultation. An individualized nutrition plan was prepared on the occasion of the first visit to the nutritionist. In bi-weekly and monthly endocrine and nutritional visits, respectively, information about healthy changes in lifestyle was emphasized and the weight was recorded. Adherence to physical activity and nutritional counseling was self-reported. We compared the weekly weight before and after the intervention, fetal weight at birth, rate of macrosomia and low birth weight, and frequency of cesarean delivery among the four categories of body mass index (BMI) before pregnancy (<18.5, from 18.5 to 24.9, from 25 to 29.9 and >30 kg/m²). RESULTS: the main disease of referral was diabetes (84.9%). One third of the pregnant women (31.2%) were overweight and 42.5% were obese before pregnancy. Most women was first seen by the multidisciplinary team in the third trimester of pregnancy (64.1%) and 50.5% exceeded the recommended weight gain at first evaluation. Obese women exceeded the recommended weight gain in 62.5% of cases. After the intervention, the percentage of women who exceeded the recommended weekly weight gain was reduced in all categories of pre-pregnancy BMI, although a statistically significant difference was found only in the group with normal pre-pregnancy BMI (40.6 versus 21.9%, p = 0.03). At birth, average fetal weight was similar among the various BMI categories (p=0.277). Macrosomia was more frequent in women who were overweight and obese before pregnancy. Cesarean delivery was the most frequent route of delivery, regardless of pre-pregnancy BMI. CONCLUSIONS: in high-risk pregnancies due to endocrine disorders, a multidisciplinary educational approach limits excessive weekly weight gain despite the advanced gestational age.

O perfil social das vítimas, as características distintivas dos próprios crimes e, sobretudo, as peculiaridades relativas a seu tratamento pela polícia e nas instâncias do Judiciário apontam para a importância de investigar os matizes e nuanças da violência homofóbica. Como fica claro no universo de processos judiciais trabalhados, as relações entre cor, classe e gênero desempenham papel fundamental no modo como tal violência é exercida, socialmente codificada e, por fim, punida.

Based on a broad research on lethal violence which affects gays and travestis, and the way such cases are judicially built, this paper aims to highlight some important elements to help understand the social dynamics played when travestis are the victims. The victims' social profile, the distinctive characteristics of the crimes and, most of all, the peculiarities of the police's and the Judiciary's behavior point to the need for investigating colorings and nuances of homophobic violence. The analyzed judicial processes clearly show that color, class and gender relations play an important role in the way such violence occurs, is socially codified and, finally, is punished.
