Abstract Introduction: The postpartum period is a phase when women are susceptible to pelvic floor muscle dysfunction (PFMD) due to the gestational period; however, there is still a lack of quality evidence evaluating the effects of interventions on pelvic floor muscle recovery in postpartum women. Objective: To investigate the effects of pelvic floor muscle training (PFMT) and low presure fitness (LPF) on discomforts associate with PFMD during the postpartum period. Methods: A randomized, placebo-controlled study was conducted with 35 women who gave birth at the Maternal and Child University Hospital (HUMAI) in the city of Ponta Grossa, Brazil. The study tested the effects of LPF and PFMT across three groups: LPF (n = 12), PFMT (n = 12), and minimal intervention/placebo (MI, n = 11). The three groups received the interventions online. Results: Training with LPF and PFMT resulted in better outcomes compared to MI for some disorders associated with PFMD after 12 weeks of treatment. LPF was most effective in improving the global score of the Pelvic Floor Bother Questionnaire (PFBQ) at 6 and 12 weeks, in reducing stress urinary incontinence at 12 weeks, and in alleviating dyspareunia at 6 and 12 weeks. Abstract Background Diversified crop systems provide several advantages for crop production and the agricultural ecosystem. In contrast, growing the same crop for consecutive years increases weeds, insects, and diseases issues, adding further cost to crop production owing to their management. Objective The objective was to evaluate the effects of six different winter cover crops and compare the impacts of a diversified rotation system in contrast to the succession system, combined with three different post-emergence herbicide management looking up to soybean yield, aboveground mass production, and weed density impact. Methods The experiment was performed over 2014 to 2018, using a randomized block design with four replications. Cover crop treatments were 1) fallow 2) wheat 3) rye 4) rye + turnip 5) rye + vetch 6) black oats. At the time of cover crop termination, weed density was counted and aboveground mass was measured. The crop rotation system was an alternated soybean and corn using three different post-emergence herbicide treatments, and the succession system was soybean each year. When a significant effect was observed after test F, the Tukey test (p ≤ 0.05) was applied to compare treatment effects. Results Rye + vetch as a cover crop, rotation system, and herbicide usage showed a higher impact on weed density. Rye + turnip has produced more aboveground biomass. Objective: to analyze the consequences of the pandemic on the quality of life of the elderly, through bibliometrics. Method: this is an integrative review, with a bibliographic analysis method, carried out on the basis of Scopus, during the period between March 2020 and June 2022, with the following descriptors: (Elderly OR Older Adults OR Older Adults People” AND Age* AND “Quality of Life” AND “Covid-19” OR Pandemics NOT Children NOT Adolescents). Data were analyzed by the Rstudio interface with bibliometrix and VOSviewer software. Results: 129 publications were found, with the involvement of 959 authors, average (7.72) co-authors found and 9,295 citations per document. The psychology of psychology is more representative and thinks about the mental aspects, the area of ​​social knowledge to the public of the elderly. There is an increase in productions on the subject between the United States and Australia. Five clusters stood out in the co-occurrence analysis, totaling 152 interconnected terms in this study, such as: confinement, social isolation, elderly, loneliness, physical activity, health and anxiety. ABSTRACT Enlist™ technology confers resistance to 2,4-D herbicides, glyphosate, and ammonium glufosinate for soybeans. However, the application of herbicides to plants can generate stress, even in resistant crops. Thus, here we evaluated whether the application of herbicides in transgenic soybean farms, resistant to these herbicides, adversely affects the activity of antioxidant enzymes and porphobilinogen formation by delta-aminolevulinate dehydratase (ALA-D) activity. At seven days after herbicide application, the aerial part of the plants was collected and used to determine the activity of antioxidant enzymes as catalase, ascorbate peroxidase, and guaiacol peroxidase, such as lipid peroxidation levels and the activity of the ALA-D enzyme. However, the activity of ALA-D was inhibited, which could potentially impair the formation of porphobilinogen and decrease photosynthetic efficiency. Thus, these results indicate that herbicides can affect the activity of ROS-scavenging enzymes even in transgenic, herbicide-resistant plants.

RESUMO Este trabalho tem por objetivo analisar a prevalência de lesões traumato-ortopédicas e fatores associados em atletas inscritos na Federação Paranaense de Basquete em Cadeira de Rodas no ano de 2017. Participaram da pesquisa 58 atletas de Basquete em Cadeira de Rodas (BCR) com média de idade de 35,75 (±11,21) anos. Foram verificadas a frequência e a distribuição das lesões traumato-ortopédicas ocorridas nos últimos 12 meses por meio de um questionário adaptado do instrumento do Laboratório de Prevenção e Reabilitação de Lesões Esportivas e do instrumento da National Injury Recording System. A força e o sentido da associação entre a presença de lesões e fatores associados foram analisadas por meio do teste de regressão de Poisson. Todo o tratamento estatístico foi realizado com auxílio do programa SPSS, versão 15.0 for Windows. Foram encontradas associações significativas entre a presença de lesões e o tempo de prática do BCR, uso da cadeira de rodas, treinamento paralelo e uso de muleta ou bengala. Concluiu-se que são necessárias políticas públicas para o incentivo de projetos interdisciplinares, a fim de garantir o atendimento integral da pessoa com deficiência, considerando que a promoção da saúde física é uma das diretrizes da Política Nacional de Saúde da Pessoa com Deficiência.

ABSTRACT This study aims to analyze the prevalence of trauma-orthopedic injuries and associated factors in athletes enrolled in the Federação Paranaense de Basquete em Cadeira de Rodas in 2017. Fifty-eight Wheelchair Basketball (WB) athletes participated in the research with an average of age of 35.75 (±11.21) years. The frequency and distribution of trauma and orthopedic injuries occurred in the last 12 months were verified through a questionnaire adapted from the instrument of the Laboratório de Prevenção e Reabilitação de Lesões Esportivas and the instrument of the National Injury Recording System. The strength and direction of the association between the presence of injuries and associated factors were analyzed using the Poisson regression test. All statistical treatment was performed using the SPSS program, version 15.0 for Windows. Significant associations were found between the presence of injuries and the time of WB practice, use of a wheelchair, parallel training and use of a crutch or cane. It was concluded that public policies are needed to encourage interdisciplinary projects in order to ensure comprehensive care for people with disabilities, considering that the promotion of physical health is one of the guidelines of the National Health Policy for People with Disabilities.

ABSTRACT: Italian ryegrass (Lolium multiflorum Lam.) is a weed broadly found in fields cultivated with wheat and barley crops. Seed inputs into the soil before harvesting winter crops increase seed bank, ensuring survival. This study evaluated the persistence of Italian ryegrass seeds subjected to burial depths over time. Experiments were carried out in the field for two years in randomized block experimental design with four repetitions. Dormant seeds harvested from mother-plants were put in nylon bags containing soil. Previously, seed viability was evaluated in a 1 % tetrazolium solution, and 50 viable seeds by repetition were buried at 0.5, 5.0, 10, and 20 cm depths. Seed persistence was evaluated by the percentage of deteriorated and remaining seeds, non-dormant seeds, abnormal seedlings, and viable and non-viable dormant seeds at 0, 30, 60, 90, 180, 360, 540, and 720 days after burial (DAB). Seed persistence increased at 10 and 20 cm of burial depth compared to seeds in the soil layers up to 5 cm. Moreover, burial depth at 10 and 20 cm showed lower percentage of deteriorated seeds (10 % lower) compared to 0.5 cm at 360 DAB. For non-dormant seeds, a higher percentage was found at 90 DAB, regardless of seed burial depth. Dormancy breakage occurred until 180 DAB, and more rapidly at 10 and 20 cm depths. At 540 DAB, more than 95 % of seeds were unviable, demonstrating short persistence of Italian ryegrass in the soil seed bank.

ABSTRACT Italian ryegrass (Lolium multiflorum Lam.) is a grass weed found in winter cereals, with several glyphosate-resistant diploid populations. Furthermore, the use of Italian ryegrass tetraploid genotypes creates an opportunity to increase the forage demand in replacement of diploid populations. The aim of this research was to evaluate the crossing capacity between glyphosate-resistant diploid and tetraploid Italian ryegrass to transfer glyphosate resistance to the next generation. Reciprocal crosses were performed using the susceptible tetraploid cultivar INIA Titan and resistant diploid (SVA04 biotype) plants to obtain the F1 progeny. Germination testing, survival percentage, inheritance of glyphosate-resistance, and ploidy level were evaluated in F1 progeny. Crossing of susceptible tetraploid plants ♂ and glyphosate-resistant diploid ♀ affected the germination and exhibited 4.5% of triploid plants. F1 progeny from the glyphosate-resistant diploid ♂ and susceptible tetraploid ♀ did not show germination problems, but 46% of the plants died during the initial seedling stage. For this progeny, 10 and 25% of the seedlings were composed of triploid and pentaploid individuals, respectively. Crosses between susceptible tetraploid ♀ and resistant diploid ♂ did not transfer the glyphosate-resistant for the plants. Susceptible tetraploid ♂ crossing with diploid resistant ♀ had a reduction of 47% the glyphosate-resistant plants compared to the homozygous glyphosate-resistant progeny. Overall, tetraploid Italian ryegrass can be a safe tool to reduce and manage the increase of glyphosate-resistant diploid ryegrass in field conditions.

ABSTRACT Glyphosate-resistant (GR) Italian ryegrass (LOLMU) and Alexandergrass (URPLA) are troublesome weeds in corn cropping systems in Southern Brazil. The emergence pattern of those weeds is not uniform and may change according to the season’s environmental characteristics. Also, herbicide resistance has been diminishing the success of the weed control programs. The objectives of this study were to evaluate the influence of corn-sowing date on LOLMU and URPLA densities and their control provided by pre- and post-emergent herbicides. Field trials were conducted in two crop seasons in Southern Brazil consisting of three corn sowing date (August, September, and October) and the application of atrazine + S-metolachlor (residual) in corn pre-emergence in different post-emergence weed control programs with glyphosate, ammonium-glufosinate, nicosulfuron, and atrazine. The results indicated that the sowing date had a significant influence on LOLMU and URPLA densities. Corn sown in the earliest period was exposed to a higher LOLMU density, whereas corn sown in the latest period had a higher density of URPLA. Also, the application of residual herbicide at corn pre-emergence reduced both weed species densities and decreased the pressure for the control of glyphosate-resistant LOLMU for the post-emergence herbicides. The use of residual herbicides in corn pre-emergence is an efficient strategy to be considered in the LOLMU and URPLA control programs, followed by post-emergence application of glyphosate, ammonium-glufosinate, atrazine, and nicosulfuron.

ABSTRACT Biochemical assays in a time-course were employed to evaluate stresses induced by glyphosate treatment in resistant and sensitive biotypes of Conyza bonariensis. Two experiments were conducted assessing glyphosate doses and time-course after treatment. The doses of glyphosate ranged from 0 to 11840 g ae·ha–1 and assessments performed until 552 h after glyphosate treatment (HAT). The objectives of this study were to evaluate the oxidative stress and differential antioxidant enzyme activity in glyphosate-resistant and -sensitive biotypes of hairy fleabane after glyphosate treatment. After treatment, both studied biotypes accumulated similar levels of shikimic-acid until 96 h. The sensitive biotype died at192 HAT. Shikimic-acid and hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) accumulation in glyphosate-resistant biotype were transient and did not differ from untreated plants at 288 and 500 HAT, respectively. In both glyphosate-resistant and -sensitive biotypes, a correlation analysis established a cause-and-effect relationship after glyphosate treatment, which leads to shikimic-acid and hydrogen peroxide accumulation, lipid peroxidation (indicates tissue damage) and an enhancement in the activity of superoxide dismutase (SOD), catalase (CAT), and ascorbate peroxidase (APX) enzyme. However, in the glyphosate-resistant biotype, the oxidative stress and tissue damage were lower, and antioxidant enzyme activities SOD, CAT, and APX were higher than in the -sensitive biotype. It indicates that antioxidant enzyme in glyphosate-resistant biotype might be related to the glyphosate-resistance process in Conyza bonariensis. This study is the first report of differential antioxidant enzyme activity in hairy fleabane.

RESUMEN El manejo de raigrás es difícil debido a la ocurrencia de biotipos resistentes a diversos herbicidas con diferentes mecanismos de acción. Dado que la mezcla de herbicidas y sus rotaciones son una alternativa importante para el manejo de malezas resistentes, el objetivo de este trabajo fue evaluar la interacción de las dosis de los herbicidas glufosinato y atrazina para el control de raigrás y la calidad de sus semillas expuestas a su asociación. Se realizaron tres experimentos usando diseño factorial en condiciones de campo, laboratorio e invernadero. Dos factores (A y B) fueron evaluados en cada experimento, donde el factor A y B representaron las dosis de glufosinato y de atrazina, respectivamente. El control de raigrás fue evaluado en el experimento de campo, mientas que el porcentaje de germinación y el Índice de Velocidad de Emergencia (IVE) se determinaron en laboratorio e invernadero, respectivamente. Los datos fueron sometidos a análisis de la varianza (P≤0,05) y los resultados significativos fueron analizados a través de gráficos de superficie de respuesta. Para los datos de control, el efecto de las interacciones fue analizado por medio del método Colby; el glufosinato proporcionó un eficiente control de raigrás, pero su asociación con atrazina reduce su eficacia, siendo caracterizando como antagonismo entre moléculas. La aplicación del herbicida glufosinato, independiente de la presencia de atrazina, redujo la calidad de las semillas de raigrás en la fase de post-floración.

ABSTRACT Ryegrass management has been difficult by the occurrence of resistant biotypes to several herbicides with different action mechanisms. Since herbicides mixes and rotations are an important alternative for resistant weed management, the objective of this work was to evaluate the interaction of the dose of the herbicides glufosinate and atrazine on ryegrass control and its seeds’ quality exposed to their association. For this study, three experiments were carried out using factorial design in field, laboratory, and greenhouse conditions. Two factors (A and B) were evaluated in each experiment, where factor A and B represented the doses of glufosinate and atrazine, respectively. Ryegrass control was evaluated in field experiment, while germination percentage and Emergence Speed Index (ESI), were obtained in laboratory and greenhouse analyses, respectively. The data were submitted to variance analysis (P≤0.05) and the significant results were analyzed through response surface graphs. For ryegrass control data, the effect of the interaction was analyzed by the Colby method; glufosinate provides efficient ryegrass control, but its association with atrazine reduces the efficiency, being characterized as an antagonism between molecules. Glufosinate herbicide application, independent of atrazine presence, reduced the ryegrass seeds quality at the post-flowering stage.

Abstract: The present article aims to analyze the WHOQOL-DIS (World Health Organization Quality of Life - Disabilities) structure to verify this instrument’s adequacy to the theoretical principles underlying its construction. The methodology consists in an analysis of the WHOQOL-DIS underlying theory, prompting questions about the adequacies of this theoretical model. The procedure is complemented by a syntax analysis in order to verify the relevant questions for the score calculation. The obtained results show that the subjects “participation” and “autonomy” are not objectively present in the international version, although they are considered in the theories as justifying elements for the instrument’s creation. In the Brazilian version, there are questions addressed to the themes. However, these questions are also not factored into the score calculation. In conclusion, the presence of autonomy and participation in the Brazilian version of WHOQOL-DIS represents a proximity with the theoretical assumptions underlying its creation. However, because they do not compose the score calculation, this adequacy is still limited.

ABSTRACT Mutations in the gene that encodes the enzyme acetolactate synthase (ALS), conferring plant resistance to ALS inhibitor herbicides, can reduce or inhibit enzymatic function. The objective of this work was to determine the functionality and kinetic characteristics of the enzyme ALS and evaluate the action of the herbicides imazapic (imidazolinone) and metsulfuron-methyl (sulfonylurea) on the activity of the enzyme ALS in canola hybrid Hyola 571CL (imidazolinone resistant), compared to hybrids Hyola 555TT (triazine resistant) and Hyola 61 (conventional). The plants were grown in a greenhouse, and leaves were collected to perform ALS activity analysis. The concentration of pyruvate to provide initial velocity equal to half the maximum reaction rate (Km) and the maximum reaction rate (Vmax) was determined, as well as the enzyme’s activity in the presence of imazapic and metsulfuron-methyl inhibitors. There was no change in the Km and Vmax in the hybrid Hyola 571CL in relation to Hyola 61. The hybrid Hyola 555TT presented Vmax higher than the other hybrids. In the hybrid Hyola 571CL, the activity of ALS was reduced only by the application of metsulfuron-methyl, and the functionality of the enzyme did not change in relation to the other hybrids. The hybrid Hyola 571CL is resistant only to the imidazolinone group herbicide and this resistance does not cause adaptive cost in relation to the other hybrids.

Resumo: Os objetivos foram avaliar doses de herbicidas em diferentes épocas de dessecação pré-colheita do trigo (Experimento 1); e, o efeito de herbicidas em diferentes épocas de dessecação pré-colheita e épocas de colheita (Experimento 2) sobre a produtividade, germinação e resíduos de herbicidas em sementes de trigo. No experimento 1, os tratamentos foram: duas doses e testemunha sem aplicação dos herbicidas glufosinate, glyphosate, paraquat, paraquat+diuron; e, as épocas de aplicação foram: grão leitoso a pastoso, grão pastoso a farináceo e grão farináceo duro. No experimento 2, os tratamentos foram as épocas de aplicação: grão leitoso a pastoso e grão pastoso a farináceo; os herbicidas: glufosinate, 2,4-D+glyphosate e testemunha sem aplicação; e, as épocas de colheitas: 5, 10 e 15 dias após aplicação. Avaliaram-se massa de mil sementes, produtividade, primeira e contagem final da germinação e resíduo dos herbicidas nas sementes. A dessecação pré-colheita com paraquat, glufosinate e 2,4-D+glyphosate em estádio de grão leitoso a pastoso reduz a produtividade do trigo. Independente do herbicida e dose, aplicação em estádio de grão leitoso a pastoso e grão pastoso a farináceo proporciona maior germinação de sementes de trigo, exceto a menor dose de paraquat. Herbicidas sistêmicos acumulam-se mais nas sementes de trigo.

Abstract: The goals of this study were to evaluate herbicide application rates at different timings for preharvest desiccation of wheat (Trial 1), as well as to evaluate the effect of the timing of herbicide desiccation at preharvest and harvest timing (Trial 2) on yield, germination, and herbicide residue in wheat seed. In Trial 1, treatments consisted of two application rates of glufosinate, glyphosate, paraquat, or paraquat+diuron and a control without application; application time periods were in the milk grain to early dough stage, soft dough to hard dough stage, and hard dough stage. In Trial 2, treatments consisted of different application time periods (milk grain to early dough stage, and soft dough to hard dough stage), different herbicides (glufosinate, 2,4-D+glyphosate, and untreated control), and different harvest times (5, 10 and 15 days after herbicide application). One thousand seeds weight, yield, first and final germination count, and herbicide residue on seeds were evaluated. Preharvest desiccation with paraquat, glufosinate, and 2,4-D+glyphosate at the milk grain to early dough stage reduces wheat yield. Regardless of the herbicide and application rate, application in the milk grain to early dough stage and soft dough to hard dough stage provides greater germination of wheat seeds, except at the lower dose of paraquat. Esta é responsável por perdas de produtividade em culturas como soja, milho, algodão e trigo cuja implementação da semeadura direta e a resistência aos herbicidas favorecem seu estabelecimento. O conhecimento do efeito da temperatura na germinação permite prever as regiões com maior potencial de colonização e auxiliar no manejo. Assim, objetivou-se com este trabalho determinar o efeito da temperatura na germinação, viabilidade e longevidade de sementes de buva em solo de terras altas. As temperaturas testadas foram 10, 20 e 30ºC e os períodos de avaliação 0, 15, 30, 45 e 60 dias. As sementes foram acondicionadas em saco de malha de nylon (5 x 5cm), distribuídas em 10g de solo de terras altas (Argissolo Vermelho Amarelo, de textura franco-arenosa), e, alocadas em caixas gerbox com solo a profundidade de 0 a 0,5 cm, nas temperaturas descritas. Avaliou-se em percentagem de sementes remanescentes, primeira e segunda contagem de germinação, plântulas anormais, sementes mortas, dormentes, viáveis e não viáveis. A semente de buva atinge dormência secundária, nas temperaturas de 10, 20 e 30ºC e sua qualidade e longevidade são prejudicadas nas temperaturas de 20 e 30ºC.

ABSTRACT: In Brazil, horseweed is one of the most important weeds because of the resistance to herbicides and high competitive for the crops. A large of losses were reported in major crops such as soybeans, wheat and corn, where the use a no-tillage system and the herbicide resistance promote better establishment. A correct understanding of the way temperature influences germination enables the prediction of the regions with the highest potential for colonization by this weed and thus facilitates its control. The objective of this study; therefore, was to discern the ways temperature affected the germination, viability and longevity of horseweed seeds. Testing was done at 10, 20 and 30°C, while evaluation occurred on days 0, 15, 30, 45 and 60. Seeds were packed in a nylon mesh bag (5x5cm), with 10g of upland soil (Yellow Red Argissolo, sandy loam texture), placed in transparent plastic boxes at 0 to 0.5cm soil depth, at the temperatures specified. Percentage of remaining seeds, first and second germination counts, abnormal seedlings, and dead, dormant, viable and non-viable seeds, were assessed. Horseweed seeds achieve secondary dormancy at 10, 20 and 30°C, while their quality and the longevity showed damage at 20 and 30°C temperatures.

Resumo: O objetivo deste trabalho foi comparar biótipos de leiteira (Euphorbia heterophylla) quanto a suas características morfológicas, assim como determinar sua similaridade genética no Rio Grande do Sul e confrontar o ponto de compensação de luz de biótipos suscetíveis e com baixa resistência ao glifosato. Além da análise morfológica, o estudo incluiu a caracterização genética, por meio de AFLP, dos biótipos suscetíveis (GR50= 58,65 g ha-1 e.a.) e dos biótipos com baixa resistência (GR50= 310,36 g ha-1 e.a.) ao glifosato. A habilidade competitiva dos biótipos foi inferida por meio de seus pontos de compensação de luz. As características morfológicas observadas não permitem diferenciar os biótipos quanto à localização geográfica ou ao grau de resistência ao glifosato. A análise genética identificou baixa diversidade genética entre os 15 biótipos de leiteira testados, com formação de elevado número de subgrupos. Os biótipos com baixa resistência formaram um grupo isolado. Os biótipos suscetíveis apresentaram os menores valores de ponto de compensação de luz e, possivelmente, têm maior habilidade competitiva em condições de baixa luminosidade. As características avaliadas não permitem diferenciar os genótipos com diferentes níveis de resistência ao glifosato.

Abstract: The objective of this work was to compare wild poinsettia (Euphorbia heterophylla) biotypes as to their morphological characteristics, as well as to determine their genetic similarity in the state of Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil, and to confront the light compensation point of susceptible biotypes and of biotypes with low-resistance level to glyphosate. Besides the morphology analysis, the study included the genetic characterization, by AFLP, of susceptible (GR50= 58.65 g ha-1 a.e.) biotypes and of biotypes with low resistance (GR50= 310.36 g ha-1 a.e.) to glyphosate. The competitive ability of the biotypes was inferred according to their light compensation point. The observed morphological characteristics do not allow to differentiate biotypes as to their geographical location, or their resistance level to glyphosate. The genetic analysis identified low genetic diversity among the 15 tested biotypes, with a large amount of subgroups. The biotypes with low resistance formed an isolated group. The susceptible biotypes showed the lowest values of light compensation point and, possibly, they have a greater competitive ability under low-luminosity conditions. The evaluated characteristics do not enable to differentiate genotypes with different levels of glyphosate resistance.
