Resumo Spondias mombin é uma espécie arbórea cujos frutos possuem sabor e aroma únicos e contêm compostos nutritivos e bioativos. Considerando que o conhecimento sobre a variabilidade genética em S. mombin é importante para o estabelecimento deum programa de melhoramento genético, objetivou-se caracterizar acessos de S. mombincoletados nos Estados do Maranhão e Piauí, Nordeste do Brasil, utilizando análisemolecular com repetições simples de sequência: marcadores (ISSR). Foram avaliados 26 acessos mantidos no banco de germoplasma da Embrapa Meio-Norte (Teresina-PI, Brasil) e dois acessos anões coletados em propriedade privada, em Teresina-PI. Os 12 marcadores ISSR empregadosapresentaram forte poder discriminatório demonstrado pelo alto percentual de polimorfismo(88,75%) e conteúdo médio de informação polimórfica (0,641). A altadiversidade genética entre os acessos foi demonstrada pelos índices de diversidade de Nei (H=0,37)e Shannon(I=0,55), enquanto o fluxo gênico entre populações foi considerado moderado(Nm=0,6268 migrantes por geração). A diversidade genética pode ser explicada,principalmente, pela variabilidade dentro das populações (88,71%) e não entre populações (11,29%), embora ocoeficiente de diferenciação genética entre populações tenha sido moderado (GST = 0,11) e estatisticamente significativo (P <0,01). Abstract: Spondias mombin is an arboreal species, the fruits of which possess a unique flavor and aroma and contain both nutritive and bioactive compounds. Considering that knowledge regarding the genetic variability in S. mombin is important for the establishment of a genetic improvement program, the aim was to characterize S. mombin accessions collected in the states of Maranhão and Piauí, northeastern Brazil, using molecular analysis with simple sequence repeats markers (ISSR). Twenty-six accessions maintained in the Embrapa Meio-Norte germplasm bank (Teresina, PI, Brazil) and two dwarf accessions collected from a private property in Teresina-PI were evaluated. The 12 ISSR markers employed presented strong discriminatory power as demonstrated by the high percentage of polymorphism (88.75%) and mean polymorphic information content (0.641). High genetic diversity among the accessions was demonstrated by the diversity indices of Nei (H=0.37) and Shannon (I=0.55), while gene flow between populations was considered moderate (Nm=0.6268 migrants per generation). The genetic diversity could be explained mainly by variability within-populations (88.71%) rather than between-populations (11.29%), although the genetic differentiation coefficient between-populations was moderate (GST=0.11) and statistically significant (P < 0.01). Unweighted pair group method with arithmetic mean (UPGMA) clustering and Population Structure analysis showed genetically distinct groups. The dwarf accessions were the most divergent and should be incorporated into the germplasm bank. Our study verified the existence of genetic differentiation between the tested S. mombin accessions and confirmed that such variability could be exploited through genetic improvement programs. Abstract Capsicum is represented by peppers and sweet peppers and comprises a group with remarkable genetic variability. Different cultivated Capsicum peppers of Brazil were evaluated by using CMA3 and DAPI specific fluorochromes. There was high polymorphism of highly GC-rich CMA heterochromatic bands among the analyzed species, ranging from six (BAGC 114; C. annuum) to 26 blocks (BAGC 81; C. baccatum). Heterochromatin percentage ranged from 3.14% (BAGC 114; C. annuum) to 8.72% (BAGC 81; C. baccatum), corroborating the variation in the number of heterochromatic bands, particularly those distributed in the terminal and subterminal regions of the chromosomes. The information reported in this paper supports the cytogenetic characterization of the domesticated peppers accessions belonging to the Capsicum Germplasm Active Bank of the Federal University of Piauí (BAGC-UFPI). Moreover, the present data helped to better understand the karyotype features of peppers and provide additional information that could contribute to the improvement and maintenance of Capsicum genetic breeding programs.

ABSTRACT Some germplasm collections have a high number of accessions, which makes it difficult to explore the genetic variability present in the germplasm bank due to the redundancy and the difficulty of detailed analysis of all conserved accessions. Therefore, our study aimed to analyze the genetic diversity of 153 lima bean (Phaseolus lunatus) accessions for the purpose of constructing a core collection. Eleven SSRs were used for this purpose. The 153 lima bean accessions can be represented by low redundancy using a minimum of 34 accessions, thus representing 22 % of the size of the entire germplasm bank. The core collection had a higher Shannon diversity index and expected heterozygosity (1.906 and 0.811, respectively) than those presented by the entire germplasm bank (1.605 and 0.713, respectively), indicating a higher polymorphism of the representative cultivars in relation to the entire collection. The accessions selected for the core collection may be used in future studies of genome association as well as in genetic crosses in breeding programs aimed at developing improved cultivars with high genetic diversity which can meet current and future market needs.

RESUMO Casearia grandiflora (Salicaceae) é uma espécie típica do cerrado piauiense, o conhecimento da diversidade genética dessa espécie é de grande importância para estabelecimento de práticas e estratégias de conservação biológica. O presente estudo teve como objetivo caracterizar a diversidade de C. grandiflora em duas áreas de cerrado do Piauí. Foram analisados 15 descritores de natureza quantitativa, através da medição do caule, folha, fruto e semente, seguida de posterior análise multivariada (componentes principais e agrupamento). Tanto a análise de componentes principais quanto os métodos de agrupamento apresentaram semelhanças na associação das plantas, o que contribuiu para o conhecimento dos padrões de variação fenotípica e divergência da espécie, sendo que a maior variação da diversidade genética foi encontrada dentro das populações. Os resultados fornecem informações importantes, visto que na literatura descrições sobre caracterização morfológica e diversidade genética dessa espécie ainda são limitadas.

ABSTRACT Casearia grandiflora (Salicaceae) is a species typical of the savanna of Piaui state. Knowledge about its genetic diversity is of great importance to establish practices and strategies of biological conservation. This study aimed to characterize C.grandiflora diversity in two areas of savanna. Fifteen quantitative descriptors were analyzed trough measurement of steam, leaf, fruit and seed, followed by multivariate analysis (principal component and grouping). Both principal component analysis and grouping methods showed similarities in plant association, which contribute to the knowledge on patterns of phenotypic variation and species divergence, with the greatest genetic diversity variation found within the populations. The results provide important information because descriptions of morphologic characterization and genetic diversity of this species are still limited in the specific literature.

RESUMO: O alho é uma das hortaliças mais importantes no mercado brasileiro e mundial. No Piauí, mais especificamente na microrregião de Picos, o alho semi-nobre foi cultivado em larga escala e supria a demanda de vários municípios do estado. Devido à entrada do alho nobre no mercado brasileiro, houve redução na produção de alho semi-nobre que pode ter levado à perda de diversidade genética. O objetivo deste trabalho foi estudar a diversidade genética em doze variedades de alho, sendo quatro de origem piauiense e oito da Coleção de Germoplasma de Alho da Escola Superior de Agricultura "Luiz de Queiroz" - Universidade de São Paulo (ESALQ/USP). Para isso, caracterizou-se o germoplasma com base nos descritores propostos pelo International Plant Genetic Resources Institute (IPGRI), atualmente Bioversity International, e realizou-se a genotipagem das variedades a partir de oito locos SSR. Os resultados obtidos com a análise morfológica corroboraram as análises moleculares, evidenciando complementaridade dessas dimensões de análise no estudo da diversidade genética em alho. Assim, conclui-se que existe divergência genética entre as variedades de alho estudadas em função da procedência do germoplasma e sugere-se que o material oriundo da ESALQ/USP trata-se de um germoplasma distinto do cultivado no Piauí. A divergência genética existente entre as variedades de alho no Piauí indica a possibilidade de seleção de genótipos superiores que aumentem a competitividade do alho piauiense frente ao alho importado.

ABSTRACT: Garlic is one of the most important crops in Brazil and in the world. In Piauí State, specifically in micro region of Picos, semi-noble garlic was once grown on a large scale and supplied the demand of various municipalities in the state. After the noble garlic was introduced to the Brazilian market, the production of semi-noble garlic reduced which may have led to loss of genetic diversity.This study investigated the genetic diversity in twelve varieties of garlic, four originally from Piauí State and eight from the Garlic Germplasm Collection of the College of Agricultura "Luiz de Queiroz" - Universidade de São Paulo (ESALQ / USP). The present study characterized the germplasm based on descriptions proposed by the International Plant Genetic Resources Institute (IPGRI), currently Bioversity International, and conducted the genotyping of varieties from eight SSR loci. The agronomic characters and microsatellite genotyping were efficient to estimate genetic diversity among the garlic varieties. The results obtained with the morphological analysis corroborated the molecular analyses, demonstrating complementarity of these analyses dimensions in the study of genetic diversity in garlic. Thus, we concluded that genetic diversity exists among the varieties of garlic studied in terms of the germplasm origin and suggests that the material from the ESALQ / USP is a germplasm distinct from that grown in Piauí State. The genetic divergence among varieties of garlic in Piauí State indicates the possibility of selecting superior genotypes that increase the competitiveness of garlic from Piauí State against imported garlic.

Com o objetivo de avaliar a variabilidade genética e as relações de afinidade entre dezenove populações de oito raças de milho (Zea mays L.) - as comerciais antigas Cateto Sulino, Cateto Sulino Grosso, Cateto Nortista e Canario de Ocho, e as raças indígenas Moroti, Lenha, Entrelaçado e Caingang - analisaram-se os seguintes sistemas enzimáticos: glutamato oxalacetato transaminase (GOT), esterase (EST) e malato desidrogenase (MDH). Observou-se maior semelhança entre as raças pertencentes a um mesmo grupo, mas as populações analisadas não se agruparam de acordo com as raças, classificadas anteriormente segundo caracteres morfológicos. Os sistemas enzimáticos utilizados não permitiram a caracterização individual de cada uma das raças analisadas. As indígenas apresentaram maior variabilidade do que as comerciais antigas quanto ao número de alelos por loco e à porcentagem de locos polimórficos.

The objective of this study was to evaluate the genetic variability and affinity relationships among eight races of maize (Zea mays L.): four ancient varieties (Cateto Sulino, Cateto Sulino Grosso, Cateto Nortista and Canario de Ocho) and four indigenous (Moroti, Lenha, Entrelaçado and Caingang), through isoenzymatic polymorphisms. The following isoenzymatic systems were evaluated: Glutamate Oxaloacetate Transaminase (GOT), Esterase (EST) and Malate Dehydrogenase (MDH). It was observed a higher identity among races belonging to the same racial group; however, populations within each race were not grouped according, to previous morphological classification. Indigenous races showed higher average number of alleles per loci and percentage of polymorphic loci than the ancient varieties. This fact might be due to the selection the ancient varieties had been gone through.
