Resumo Os efeitos diferenciados da produção de serviços ambientais em microbacias se devem à capacidade de regularização das vazões de saída em seu exutório. Já em áreas impactadas esta função ambiental é afetada e, em algumas situações, deixa de existir completamente. Este estudo objetivou caracterizar o solo e a produção de sedimentos em microbacias antropizadas, com o intuito de descrever e avaliar os serviços ambientais oferecidos por uma bacia em transformação antrópica. As análises mostram que o fluxo hídrico nas microbacias remanescentes eram, preferencialmente, horizontais na zona de transmissão, que representa quase a totalidade das áreas. Os valores de condutividade hidráulica, sugerem que a infiltração diminui em profundidade, este fato é corroborado pelos valores de densidade do solo. As regiões naturais de acúmulo de água, as várzeas ou zonas de afloramento, são pequenas e não possuem recarga por outras áreas. Mesmo assim, balanço hídrico mostra que o conjunto de medidas implementadas garantiu que a demanda hídrica deficitária fosse suprida ao longo dos anos de funcionamento, mesmo em época de déficit hídrico. Da mesma forma, a retenção de sólidos nos tanques de decantação e no sistema de drenagem, impediu que cerca de 29.000 t de sedimentos fossem carreados entre os anos de 2012 a 2015.

Abstract The differentiated effects of the provision of environmental services in a watershed are due to the capacity of regularization of outflows in its mouth. In impacted areas, this environmental function is affected, and in some situations, it ceases to exist completely. This study characterized the soil and the production of sediments in anthropic watersheds, with the purpose of describing and evaluating the environmental services offered by a watershed undergoing anthropic transformation. The analyses show that the water flow in the remaining watersheds was preferably horizontal in the transmission zone, and these areas represent almost all areas. The values of hydraulic conductivity suggest that the infiltration decreases with soil depth; this fact is corroborated by the values of bulk density. The natural regions of water accumulation, the floodplains or outcrops zones, are small and do not have direct contact with the main floodplain present in the Guandu River Basin, making it impossible to recharge through other areas. Even so, water balance shows that the set of measures implemented ensured that the deficit water demand was supplied during the years of operation, even in times of water deficit. Likewise, the retention of solids in the settling tanks and in the drainage system prevented some 29,000 t of sediment from being carried between the years of 2012 and 2015.

Resumo Os núcleos de vegetação são estruturas formadas espontaneamente por pequenos agrupamentos de indivíduos arbustivos e arbóreos, que, ao evoluírem em pastagens perturbadas, podem contribuir na sucessão ecológica. Para compreender a evolução dos processos de restauração florestal passiva em ecossistemas tropicais, depois de paralisada a pecuária extensiva, foram estudados ambientes com baixa oferta de atributos ambientais localizados na vertente norte dos morrotes isolados entre planície de inundação. Após 40 anos de abandono, os núcleos de vegetação colonizaram 20% dos ecossistemas graminoides amostrados, apresentando-se em estágio moderado de perturbação. A composição florística dos estratos superior e regenerante evidenciou que núcleos com duas ou mais espécies florestais pioneiras e com síndrome de dispersão anemocórica, como Moquiniastrum polymorphum, apresentam alta probabilidade de terem seus processos de restauração catalisados no tempo. Núcleos desenvolvidos apresentam riqueza e abundância maiores em seu estrato regenerante, além de espécies zoocóricas e não pioneiras, sugerindo interações positivas entre processos ecológicos, condição que confere sustentabilidade aos avanços da restauração florestal passiva. O aprimoramento destas informações pode contribuir para o desenvolvimento de modelos de restauração induzidos com base nos efeitos da nucleação.

Abstract The nuclei of vegetation are structures spontaneously formed by small clusters of individual shrubs and trees that, upon evolving in disturbed pastures can contribute to the ecological succession. In order to understand the evolution of passive restoration processes in tropical ecosystems, after extensive cattle ranching was stopped, environments with low environmental attributes were studied, located in the northern slope of the isolated mounds between floodplain. After 40 years of abandonment, the nuclei of vegetation colonized 20% of the graminoid ecosystems sampled, presenting at a moderate stage of disturbance. The floristic composition of the upper strata and regenerating showed that nuclei with two or more pioneer forest species and anemocoric dispersion syndrome, such as Moquiniastrum polymorphum, present a high probability of having their restoration processes catalyzed in time. Developed nuclei present higher richness and abundance in their regenerating stratum, besides zoological and non-pioneering species, suggesting positive interactions between the ecological processes, a condition that gives sustainability to the advances of the passive forest restoration. The improvement of this information can contribute to the development of models of induced restoration based on the effects of nucleation.

Resumo A bacia do rio Dois Rios (R2R) (3.159 km²) recolhe os efeitos climáticos e ambientais típicos de zonas situadas a sotavento de cadeias montanhosas. Tem balanço hídrico deficitário, havendo poucos e específicos locais úmidos. Este estudo identifica, espacializa, caracteriza e agrupa as planícies de inundação com maior habilidade em produzir serviços ecossistêmicos relacionados à perenidade de recursos hídricos na bacia R2R. Foram segregados locais com maiores índices pluviométrico (1500 a 2800 mm/ano), agrupados em microbacias com maior potencial de captação em função de estarem a sota-vento na região (slopes oriented to permit them to capture humidity and concave plane curvature). As 42 bacias formaram 4 grupos, onde levantou-se 17 microbacias com alto potencial de fornecer serviços ecossistêmicos pertencentes aos Grupos III e IV. Nestes grupos, 498 planícies de inundação com maior potencial de oferta de serviços ecossistêmicos (grupo D) apresentam habilidades para retenção hídrica e efeitos de perenização (high average circularity index, higher altitudes and low occupation rates). O uso correto de 0,0006% pode garantir o escoamento direto das drenagens de toda a bacia. Está estratégica implicaria em medidas de renaturalização, disciplinamento dos usos e estrita observação dos processos que geram serviços ecossistêmicos nas planícies das bacias, trazendo relevantes benefícios socioeconômicos para todos os segmentos da bacia do R2R.

Abstract The catchment basin of the Dois Rios River (R2R) (3159 km2) unites the climatic and environmental effects typical of areas located on the leeward side of mountain chains. It has a deficient water balance, with sparse and very specific wet areas. This study identifies delimitation areas, and characterizes and groups those basins and floodplains which show the greatest capacity for producing ecosystemic services related to maintaining the continuity of water resources in the R2R basin. Locations with higher pluviometric indices (1500 to 2800 mm/year) were selected and grouped into micro basins with the highest potential for capturing rainfall due to their being on the leeward side of the mountains in the region (with their slopes oriented to permit them to capture humidity and concave plane curvature). The 42 basins formed 4 groups, from which the 17 micro basins with the highest probability of providing ecosystemic services were chosen, belonging to Groups III and IV. Within these groups, the 498 floodplains with the highest potential for offering ecosystemic services (Group D) present the greatest capacity for water retention and sustainable effects (high average circularity index, higher altitudes and low occupation rates). The correct use of 0.0006% of the basin can guarantee the direct flow of the drainage for the entire basin. This strategy only requires renaturation measures, discipline with regard to the land uses and strict observance of the processes which generate ecosystemic services in the floodplains of these basins, resulting in relevant socio-environmental benefits for all socioeconomic segments within the R2R basin.

Resumo Planícies fluvio-marinhas abrigam ambientes com reduzida declividade, porém com ofertas diferenciadas de atributos ambientais que podem constituir relevantes serviços ecossistêmicos nas suas bacias hidrográficas, que podem ser transformadas em oportunidades para o desenvolvimento de pagamento de serviços ambientais. O estudo espacializou parte dos serviços ecossistêmicos relacionados a disponibilidade hídrica nas microbacias da Bacia Hidrográfica do Sistema Guandu, principal manancial de abastecimento da região metropolitana do Rio de Janeiro, com base em fatores geo-ambientais e efeitos de transposição de água entre bacias hidrográficas, a fim de facilitar a tomada de decisão das políticas públicas em relação aos serviços ambientais. Os trechos com maior potencial para a produção de serviços ambientais a partir de vazões subterrâneas, índice de umidade topográfica - ITU (ITU >11), formação plana e baixa altimetria (<40 m), estão próximo aos antigos talvegues assoreados, que podem ser potencializados pelos efeitos da transposição, notadamente na unidade de conservação APA Guandu. Áreas planas com (7 < UIT < 11) têm seus serviços ecossistêmicos transferidos dos fluxos de água sub-superficiais para os fluxos de águas superficiais e dependem mais dos fenômenos meteorológicos e das formas de manejo de chuvas intensas durante seu uso, especialmente quando a altimetria e inclinação aumentam.

Abstract Fluvial marine plains harbor environments with reduced declivity, but with different environmental attributes that may be relevant ecosystem services in their watersheds, which can be transformed into opportunities for the development of environmental services payments. This study digitally spatialized part of the ecosystem services related to water availability in the microbasins of the Guandu Basin Hydrographic Basin, the main source of water supply for the metropolitan region of Rio de Janeiro, based on geo-environmental factors and the effects of transposition of watersheds, in order to facilitate the formulation of public policies regarding environmental services. The excerpts with the highest potential for producing environmental services from subsurface water flows, Topographic Wetness Index-ITU (ITU > 11), flat formation and low altimetry (< 40 m), are close to the old silted thalwegs, which can be potentialized by the effects of transposition, notably in the APA Guandu conservation unit. These areas should be prioritized in public and private water systems’ preservation programs. The areas near the transposition canals feature environmental services that depend directly on the transposition, and may be subject to management, as found in Guandu conservation unit. Flat areas with (7<ITU< 11) have their ecosystem services transferred from subsurface water flows to surface water flows and are dependent more on meteorological phenomena and on ways to manage heavy rain showers through their use, especially as altimetry and slope increase.

RESUMO As florestas de altitude situadas nas microbacias da Serra do Mar, no Estado do Rio de Janeiro, apresentam serviços ambientais que contribuem para os diversos segmentos da sociedade carioca que demandam água de qualidade e quantidade, assim como ambientes sustentáveis. A condensação do vapor d'água nas copas das árvores é um desses serviços, pois contribui positivamente para o balanço hídrico. Seu entendimento poderá auxiliar no equacionamento de soluções e planejamento ambiental sustentável. Esta percepção/compreensão motivou o estudo da interceptação horizontal (IH) em área montanhosa na região de Nova Friburgo - RJ. Foram coletados e analisados dados de precipitação total (PT), precipitação pluviométrica ou externa (P), IH, precipitação interna (PI) e interceptação da copa (IC) no período compreendido entre dezembro de 2003 e janeiro de 2004, na encosta a barlavento da Serra do Mar, em Nova Friburgo. Os valores de precipitação total (PT) e Interceptação Horizontal (IH) corresponderam a 786,23 mm e 68,71 mm, respectivamente. As perdas por IC foram de 25,46% e a PT foi de 125,66% em relação à P, evidenciando que a IH influenciou no balanço hídrico da região constituindo-se num importante serviço ambiental para os ecossistemas e para a população dependente da bacia estudada.

ABSTRACT The Montane Forest situated at the watersheds of Serra do Mar, state of Rio de Janeiro, presents environmental services that contribute for diverse segments of society, which demands water in quantity and with quality, as well as sustainable environments. Water vapor condensation at forest canopies is one of these services, as it contributes positively with hydrological water balance. It`s understanding can help the equation of solutions on sustainable environment planning, which motivated the study of horizontal interception (IH) on a Mountainous area in Nova Friburgo region. It was collected and analyzed data from total rainfall (PT), pluviometric rainfall (P), IH, internal precipitation (PI) e canopy interception (IC) during December 2003 to January 2004, at the windward slope of Serra do Mar, in Nova Friburgo. Values for total rainfall (PT) and horizontal interception (IH) corresponded to 786.23 mm and 68,71 mm, respectively. The lost from IC where of 25.46% and PT was 125.66% in relation to P, showing that IH influenced on the regional hydrological balance, constituting an important environmental service for ecosystem and population who depends on the watershed studied.

A Clidemia urceolata DC. é uma espécie pioneira da família Melastomataceae, que coloniza espontaneamente pastagens abandonadas. Ela forma núcleos de tamanhos variados, onde podem ser observadas outras espécies de grupo sucessional mais avançado, podendo constituir uma espécie facilitadora. O presente estudo objetivou quantificar e caracterizar os núcleos na bacia hidrográfica do rio Barra Mansa - RJ (6.839 ha) (22o32'40'' 22º 40'60''S e 44o12' 44º06'20''W), tributário do rio Paraíba do Sul. Eles foram georreferenciados e caracterizados quanto ao porte dos indivíduos de Clidemia urceolata (baixo: H ≤ 0,60 m; médio: 0,60 < H < 1,20 m; e alto: H ≥ 1,20 m), adensamento (esparso, médio e adensado), área do núcleo (pequeno: ≤ 500 m2; médio: 500 a 2000 m2; e grande: ≥ 2000 m2) e estágio de desenvolvimento (inicial, intermediário e avançado). Foram identificados 26 núcleos, totalizando 7,9 ha. Desses, houve predomínio de núcleos com indivíduos de porte médio (76,92%), pouco adensado (42,31%), tamanho grande (42,31%) e estágio intermediário de desenvolvimento (46,16%), evidenciando que se encontram em formação, e que a estratégia de colonização, reprodução e dispersão da Clidemia urceolata pode contribuir para dinamizar a sucessão ecológica, podendo atuar como agente espontâneo de restauração florestal das áreas perturbadas.

Clidemia urceolata DC. is a pioneer species of the family Melastomataceae which colonizes spontaneously abandoned pastures. It forms nuclei of different sizes, where other species of advanced successional groups can be observed, constituting a facilitative species. The present study aimed to quantify and characterize the nuclei in the watershed of Barra Mansa river, Rio de Janeiro state (6.839 ha) (22o 32'40'' 22º 40'60''S e 44o 12' 44º 06'20''W), which is a tributary of Paraíba do Sul river. They were geographically referenced and characterized regarding to the size of Clidemia urceolata individuals (low: H <0,60 m; medium: 0,60 <H <1,20 m; and high: H ≥ 1,20m), densification (scattered, medium and dense), area of the nuclei (small: ≤ 500 m2; medium: 500 to 2000 m2; and large: ≥ 2000 m2) and development stage (initial, intermediate and advanced). 26 nuclei were identified, adding up to 7,9 ha. There was the prevalence of nuclei with medium sized individuals (76,92%), slightly dense (42,31%), big area (42,31%) and intermediate developmental stage (46,16%), evidencing that they are in progress and that colonization strategy, reproduction and dispersion of Clidemia urceolata can contribute to boost the ecological succession, being able to act as a spontaneous agent of forest restoration of the disturbed areas.

A escória de aciaria é um rejeito da produção do aço e possui propriedade corretiva da acidez do solo, podendo reduzir consequentemente a mobilidade de elementos traço. O trabalho objetivou avaliar a capacidade do resíduo industrial escória de aciaria em reduzir a solubilidade e lixiviação de Mn em resíduos contaminados. No Laboratório de Poluição de Solos da UFRRJ (Seropédica-RJ), foram realizados ensaios de lixiviação em colunas usando três resíduos contaminados com Mn, denominados G1, G2 e G3 e duas doses de resíduo inertizante (escória de aciaria). Nas colunas, foi aplicado um volume de água conhecido e constante que simula a precipitação máxima ocorrida nos últimos 17 anos na região onde foi coletado o resíduo. A maior dose do resíduo de escória de aciaria (6%) reduziu a solubilidade do Mn a valores inferiores ao limite máximo permitido pela ABNT, nos grupos G1, G2 e G3, sendo que o tratamento com 6% escória de aciaria + barreiras químicas foi o mais eficiente na redução da lixiviação de Mn em todos os grupos de resíduos estudados. Portanto, os resultados evidenciaram a eficiência da escória de aciaria na redução da solubilidade e lixiviação do Mn, em todos os resíduos.

Steelmaking slag is a waste of steel production and has owned corrective soil acidity and may consequently reduce the mobility of trace elements. The research aimed the capacity of industrial waste steelmaking slag to reduce the solubility and lixiviation of Mn in contaminated soil. In the Soil Pollution Laboratory of the UFRRJ (Seropédica-RJ), leaching experiments were carried using three different residues contaminated with Mn, and two doses of the inertizant residues steelmaking slag. In the columns were applied a known and constant volume of water, established to simulate the maximum precipitation occurred in the last 17 years, in the region where the residue was collected. The highest dose of steelmaking slag (6%) reduced the Mn solubility below the maximum allowed by ABNT, for G1, G2 and Ge, and the treatment with 6% steelmaking slag + barriers chemical was the most effective in reducing the leaching of Mn in all groups. Therefore, the results showed the efficiency of steelmaking slag in the reduction of Mn solubility and lixiviation in all residues.

RESUMO Ecossistemas perturbados não apresentam composição florística original, os solos encontram-se exauridos, rasos, pedregosos, com baixa infiltração, revelando processos erosivos com diferentes níveis de geodinamismo. A área de estudo apresenta pastagens com vegetação herbácea espaçada e fragilizada a cada chuva ou incêndio, onde os indivíduos florestais que colonizaram e se estabeleceram nesses ambientes foram definidos como espécies rústicas. Este estudo objetivou relacionar as variáveis do meio físico (exposição, declividade, elevação, relevo e afloramentos rochosos) com o estabelecimento e crescimento das espécies rústicas levantadas e identificadas por censo, em trecho perturbado (terço inferior) da bacia do rio Cacaria, situado na base da serra do Mar, Piraí - RJ. Para o levantamento da vegetação foi realizado censo em uma área de 22 hectares, onde foram mensuradas, identificadas e georreferenciadas todas as espécies arbóreas de ocorrência espontânea que se encontravam isoladas em uma área de pastagem. Os fatores ecológicos exposição, elevação e declividade foram determinados com bússola, altímetro e clinômetro, respectivamente. Foram levantados e identificados 131 indivíduos, constituindo 14 espécies, agrupadas em 9 famílias. Tabernaemontana laeta Mart., Sparattosperma leucanthum (Vell.) Schum., Machaerium hirtum (Vell.) Stellfeld, Tabebuia chrysotricha (Mart. ex DC.) Stan., Cecropia pachystachya Trec., Peltophorum dubium (Spreng.) Taub., Guarea guidonia (L.) Sleumer, Acacia polyphylla DC. e Psidium guajava L. estiveram presentes em trechos da encosta com exposição para o norte, com cotas altitudinais de 60m a 80m e com declividade fortemente ondulada (20-45%), indicando preferência dessas espécies por micro- habitats com essas características.

ABSTRACT Disturbed ecosystems do not present original floristic composition. Their soils are depleted, shallow, stony, with low infiltration and present erosion with different levels of geodynamics. The study region has areas of pasture with sparse herbaceous vegetation which is weakened in every rain and fire, covering less ground. The individuals that colonized and settled in these environments were considered rustic species. This study raised and identified by census, the rustic species and their structure in the most degraded part (lower third) of the watershed of Cacaria's river at the base of the Serra do Mar, Piraí, Rio de Janeiro state, and evaluated the influence of ecological exposure, slope, elevation, topography and rock outcrops in the establishment and growth of these species. For the vegetation survey it was conducted census in an area of 22 hectares, where it was measured, geo-referenced and identified all spontaneous tree species that were isolated in a pasture area. Ecological factors exposure, elevation and slope were determined with a compass, altimeter and clinometer, respectively. There were identified 131 individuals, representing 14 species, grouped into nine families. Tabernaemontana laeta Mart., Sparattosperma leucanthum (Vell.) Schum., Machaerium hirtum (Vell.) Stellfeld, Tabebuia chrysotricha (Mart. ex DC.) Stan., Cecropia pachystachya Trec., Peltophorum dubium (Spreng.) Taub., Guarea guidonia (L.) Sleumer, Acacia polyphylla DC. and Psidium guajava L.were present in portions of the slope with exposure to the north, with altitudes from 60 to 80m and with slope strongly corrugated (20-45%), indicating a preference of these species for microhabitats with those characteristics.

A serrapilheira, em restauração florestal espontânea, pode influir no balanço hídrico e em seus processos ecológicos. Neste estudo, foi avaliado o estoque de serrapilheira acumulada e sua retenção hídrica ex situ, pelo método de Blow, em locais similares em quatro níveis de restauração florestal espontânea, desenvolvidos a partir da espécie espontânea Clidemia urceolata DC., nos seguintes ambientes: pastagem abandonada (S1); capoeira (S2); capoeirão (S3), e fragmento florestal (S4). O amostrador (0,25 × 0,25 × 0,05 m) foi disposto aleatoriamente em 12 amostras por tratamento, durante o período de estiagem. O maior estoque de serrapilheira acumulada foi observado em S4 (5,15 Mg.ha-1) e a maior retenção hídrica, em S2 (343,87%) e S3 (339,94%), evidenciando que biomassa e diversidade de espécies condicionam a produção, porém não afetam as respostas hídricas da serrapilheira, cujas maiores retenções estão vinculadas à presença de material decíduo da espécie facilitadora nas fases pouco evoluídas e as menores retenções, nas fases mais evoluídas (30 anos de restauração), aumentando a umidade do solo.

Litter on spontaneous forest restoration can influence water balance and its ecological processes. In this study, we evaluated the stock of accumulated litter and its ex situ water retention by the Blow method in similar locations, at 4 levels of forest restoration spontaneously developed from the species Clidemia urceolata DC. in the following environments: abandoned pasture (S1), farmyard (S2), brushwood (S3), and forest fragment (S4). A sampler (0.25 × 0.25 × 0.05 m) was randomly prepared in 12 samples per treatment during the dry period. The largest stock of accumulated litter was observed in S4 (5.15 Mg ha-1) and the greatest water retention levels were found in S2 (343.87%) and S3 (339,94%), demonstrating that biomass and species diversity influence production but do not affect the responses of litter water, whose greater retention levels are related to the presence of deciduous material from facilitative species in the poorly evolved phases and to lower retention levels in the more advanced stages (30 years of restoration), increasing soil moisture contents.

ABSTRACT Spontaneous regeneration in reforestation areas can indicate effectiveness of ecological succession and rehabilitation sustainability. The studied recovery area had been rehabilitated 14 years before, with five reforestations with different species with proportional and functional properties. The floristic composition and richness of the regenerating stratus was evaluated (h ≥ 15 cm; DBH ≤ 10 cm) using point methodology in the winter (2007) and the summer (2008). There were found 3,554 individuals, 38 families, 84 genus and 147 species. The main families were: Asteraceae, Poaceae and Fabaceae-Mimosoideae. Treatment T5 with predominance of Mimosa caesalpiniaefolia Benth presented the greatest species richness in summer (29) and in winter (41). Treatment T3 presented the lowest value (28), with predominance of Acacia mangium Willd; and, in winter, T4 (19), with predominance of Acacia auriculiformis Sandw. RESUMO A regeneração espontânea sob reflorestamentos indica a eficácia da sucessão ecológica e a sustentabilidade da reabilitação. A área de empréstimo estudada foi reabilitada há 14 anos, a partir de cinco reflorestamentos com espécies diferentes pela proporcionalidade e pelas propriedades funcionais. Avaliou-se a composição florística e a riqueza do estrato regenerante (h ≥ 15 cm; CAP ≤ 10 cm), utilizando-se o método de pontos, no inverno (2007) e no verão (2008). Encontraram-se 3.554 indivíduos, 38 famílias, 84 gêneros e 147 espécies. Dentre as famílias botânicas presentes, Asteraceae, Poaceae e Fabaceae-Mimosoideae foram as principais. O Tratamento T5 com predomínio da Mimosa caesalpiniaefolia Benth apresentou maior riqueza no verão (29) e inverno (41), sendo o melhor de todos os tratamentos. ABSTRACT Different environmental attributes of north and south slopes of a Dense Ombrofilous Montana Forest in Serra do Mar can explain landscape variation and ecosystem forest species composition. Twelve slopes were assessed in the interfluve zone in Nova Friburgo, State of Rio de Janeiro, six on each slope exposition, using the point-centered quarter method on the north and south slopes. The 480 individuals evaluated belong to 119 species, 75 genera, and 40 families. The similarity between the slopes was 36%, where 43 species were common to both north and south slopes, 36 species were exclusive to south slopes, and 40 were exclusive to north slopes. The most abundant species was Euterpe edulis L. with 50 individuals on south slopes and 29 on north slopes. RESUMO Os diferentes atributos ambientais das vertentes norte e sul na Floresta Ombrófila Densa Montana da Serra do Mar podem explicar a variação da paisagem e a composição de espécies florestais dos seus ecossistemas. Foram amostradas 12 vertentes na zona do interflúvio de Nova Friburgo-RJ, sendo seis em cada face de exposição, utilizando o método fitossociológico Ponto por Quadrante. Os 480 indivíduos amostrados pertencem a 119 espécies, 75 gêneros e 40 famílias. A similaridade de espécies entre os dois tipos de vertentes foi de 36%, em que 43 espécies foram comuns, 36 exclusivas da sul e 40 da norte. A espécie mais abundante foi Euterpe edulis L. , com 50 indivíduos na vertente sul e 29 na vertente norte. As identificações de hábitats preferenciais de espécies que colonizam espontaneamente ambientes perturbados podem constituir elementos de aperfeiçoamento de técnicas de restauração ecológica. Nesse contexto, a Clidemia urceolata DC destaca-se por colonizar esses ambientes e apresentar ampla distribuição na bacia do rio Paraíba do Sul. Este estudo objetivou avaliar as preferências ecológicas de C. urceolata na bacia hidrográfica do rio Barra Mansa, RJ (22º 32'40" 22º 40'60"S e 44º 12' 44º 06'20"W). Os núcleos da espécie foram demarcados e classificados segundo os seguintes fatores ambientais: feição do terreno, posição relativa na topossequência, face de exposição, declividade e altitude. Foram amostrados 26 núcleos, totalizando 0,005 ha em 6.839 ha da área total. A distribuição da espécie foi mais frequente nos seguintes ambientes: a) terços médio e inferior da topossequência; b) feição côncava do terreno; c) face de exposições sudeste, sul e sudoeste; d) declividade de 8 a 45%; e) altitude entre 432 e 525 m, sendo os últimos quatros fatores mais determinantes. A conjunção de todas essas informações espacializadas na bacia do rio Barra Mansa indica que 30% da área apresenta condições mais favoráveis para o estabelecimento da C. urceolata, o que pode demonstrar um potencial de restauração ambiental.

The identification of preferential habitats of species which spontaneously colonize disturbed areas can constitute elements to improve ecological restoration techniques. Therefore, Clidemia urceolata DC stands out for colonizing those environments and presenting wide distribution in the watershed of Paraíba do Sul River. The objective of this study was to evaluate ecological preferences of C. urceolata in the watershed of Barra Mansa River, RJ (22º 32'40" 22º 40'60"S and 44º 12' 44º 06'20"W). The species nuclei were delimited and classified according to the following environmental factors: terrain feature, relative position on toposequence, exposition face, slope and altitude. It was sampled 26 nuclei, totalizing 0.005 ha from 6.839 ha of total area. Species distribution was more frequent on the following conditions: a) medium and inferior thirds of the toposequence. b) concave face of the terrains. c) southeastern, southern and southwestern exposure faces. d) slope between 8 and 45%. e) altitudes between 432 and 525 m, being the four last factors the most determinant. The conjunction of this information ploted for the watershed of Barra Mansa River indicate that 30% of area present more favorable conditions for the establishment of C. urceolata, what can demonstrate an environmental restoration potential.

O Rio Guandu é a principal fonte de abastecimento de água da região metropolitana do Rio de Janeiro, atendendo a, aproximadamente, nove milhões de pessoas. Este trabalho estratificou e caracterizou ambientalmente a Área de Preservação Permanente (APP) do Rio Guandu (faixa marginal de 100m), através da análise de aerofotos digitais não convencionais, obtidas a partir de uma câmera digital de pequeno formato, adaptada a um helicóptero (as aerofotos foram agrupadas em mosaicos para facilitar as etapas do geoprocessamento). A região correspondente a APP foi estratificada em quatro ambientes com características ecológicas distintas: Ambiente 1 (leito encaixado), Ambiente 2 (várzea fluvial), Ambiente 3 (planície aluvionar) e Ambiente 4 (fluviomarinho). A partir da sobreposição dos mapas de uso da terra, da proximidade da área urbano-industrial e da vegetação nativa, foi gerado um mapa do grau de degradação dos ambientes. Os usos predominantes foram pastagem (38%) e agricultura (18%). Os fragmentos florestais totalizaram apenas 11,6% da APP. Segundo a metodologia utilizada, o Ambiente 4 apresentou 51% de sua área, com um grau alto a muito alto de degradação, e o Ambiente 3 apresentou melhor estado de conservação em comparação aos demais. Os resultados sugeriram que a predominância das atividades agropecuárias, a proximidade de grandes centros urbanos e a área muito reduzida dos fragmentos florestais na APP do Rio Guandu podem comprometer a qualidade desse manancial.

The Guandu River is the main water provision source in Rio de Janeiro metropolitan area, assisting a population of about nine million people. This study is an environmental stratification and characterization of the Permanent Preservation Area (PPA) in Guandu River, through non-conventional digital aerial photos obtained from a small digital camera attached to a helicopter. These aerial photos have been grouped in mosaics to make the geoprocessing stages easier. The PPA region has been stratified in four different environments: Environment-1 (river-bed), Environment-2 (fluvial holm), Environment-3 (aluvionar plain), Environment-4 (marine influenced). A map of the degree of degradation of each environment has been obtained from the superposition of land use maps, urban-industrial and natural vegetation maps. Generally, the land is used for agriculture and pasture. The forest fragments represent only 7,4% of the PPA. Environment-4 shows 51% of high to very high degradation degree, and Environment-3 shows a better conservation state compared to the others. These results suggest that predominance of agricultural activities, proximity of great urban centers and very reduced forest area in the PPA of Guandu River menace the quality of this important source.

The study was taken in a reclamation area where soil was removed up to 13 meters deep in 1979, near Itaguaí county, Brazil (23º 55' 07'' S, 43º 49' 73'' O). In 2007 the composition and horizontal structure of the shrubby-arboreal strata was evaluated in five 13 years old forest plantations with similar environment conditions. For rehabilitation, rustic pioneer species were used to guarantee a sustainable successional process, which depends on species selection and their functional complementarities. Treatments were: T0 (control); T1 (100 % of exotic species); T2 (52% of exotic species); T3 (50% exotic and 50% native); T4 (39% exotic and 61% native); and T5 (15% exotic and 85% native). Variables measured were height, DBH (≥ 3.0 cm), basal area, canopy cover, horizontal structure (density, dominance, frequency and importance value) Diversity Index (Shannon-Weaver) and Similarity Index (Jaccard), on four permanent plots of 5 x 15 m (75m²) per treatment. Fourteen species were planted in 1994 and 13 years later, 23 species of 21 genus and 11 botanical families were found. Treatment T5 had the greatest individual numbers and variability of canopy and density cover, T2 had the greatest species diversity and T4 the greatest height and individual basal area; on the other hand, T1 had the lowest individual number, density and mixture coefficient. All species combinations used were more efficient on rehabilitation than in the control area which didn't show any arboreal species in 28 years.

El estudio se realizó en un área de préstamo, donde se retiró durante el año 1979, una profundidad promedio de 13 metros, en el sector de Itaguaí, Brasil (23º 55' 07'' S, 43º 49' 73'' O). En el año de 2007 se evaluó la estructura horizontal y composición florística de los estratos arbóreos-arbustivos, en cinco repoblaciones forestales de 13 años, establecidas sobre ambientes similares. Se utilizó especies rústicas con función de pioneras en la fase inicial, para garantizar los procesos sucesionales sostenibles de la rehabilitación, que depende de la selección de especies y su complementariedad funcional. Los tratamientos (Ti) fueron: T0 (testigo); T1 (100% especie exótica); T2 (52% exótica y 48% nativas); T3 (50% exótica y 50% nativa); T4 (39% exótica y 61% nativa); y T5 (15% exótica y 85% nativa). Las variables medidas fueron: altura, DAP (≥ 3,0 cm), área basal, cobertura de copas, estructura horizontal (densidad, dominancia, frecuencia y valor de importancia), además de Índices diversidad (Shannon-Weaver) y similitud (Jaccard), en 4 parcelas permanentes de 5 x 15 m (75 m²) por tratamiento. Fueron plantadas 14 especies y encontradas 23 especies, distribuidas en 21 géneros de 11 familias botánicas. El T5 presentó más individuos y se destacó en las variables cobertura de copa y densidad, T2 mayor diversidad de especies y T4 mayor altura y área basal individual, en cambio el T1 presentó menor número de individuos, densidad y coeficiente de mezcla. Todas las combinaciones de especies fueron más eficientes en la rehabilitación cuando se compararon con el área testigo, que no presentó individuos arbóreos en 28 años.

ABSTRACT Rustic species are those capable of being established on land with steep slopes; low infiltration; stony, shallow, poor-nutrient soil; such as the areas undergoing intense human activities, like cattle-raising and annual fires. This work sampled and examined the occurrence of arboreal rustic species in pasture areas and in disturbed 28-year-old forest remnants without conservation measures other than isolation from cattle. Both areas show similar physical environmental and ecological factors. The study was conducted within the ‘Cacaria’ river watershed, located in the ‘Cacaria’ district in Piraí, in the southern part of State of Rio de Janeiro. 131 individual trees were sampled in an approximately 22 ha disturbed pasture area. The trees were distributed in 14 species and grouped in nine families. 130 individual trees belonging to 21 species and 13 families were sampled in 10 ample plots (0.1 ha) in the forest remnants. The rustic species of greater abundance were: Guarea guidonia, Tabernaemontana laeta, Peltophorum dubium and Sparattosperma leucanthum, which were present in both study areas. RESUMO Espécies rústicas são aquelas que conseguem se estabelecer em terrenos com declividade acentuada, baixa infiltração, pedregosos, com solos rasos e pobres em nutrientes, submetidos a intensas ações antrópicas como atividade pecuária e queimadas anuais. O presente trabalho levantou a ocorrência de espécies rústicas de porte arbóreo em área de pastagem perturbada e em uma área de remanescente florestal há 28 anos sem intervenções conservacionistas, analisando a capacidade dessas espécies em colonizar ecossistemas perturbados e reiniciar o processo de regeneração natural. O estudo se desenvolveu na bacia hidrográfica do rio Cacaria, pertencente ao distrito de Cacaria, município de Piraí, sul do Estado do Rio de Janeiro. Foram levantados 131 indivíduos arbóreos pertencentes a 14 espécies e agrupados em 9 famílias, presentes em uma área de pastagem de aproximadamente 22 ha. Nos remanescentes florestais, foram levantados, em 10 parcelas de amostragem da comunidade arbórea (0,1 ha), 130 indivíduos pertencentes a 21 espécies e 13 famílias. As espécies rústicas de maior abundância e que estiveram presentes nas duas áreas estudadas foram Guarea guidonia, Tabernaemontana laeta, Peltophorum dubium e Sparattosperma leucanthum.
