ABSTRACT Objective: To evaluate the prevalence of sharps accidents among dental students in southwest Goiás state, Brazil, and further survey their knowledge of biosafety and post-injury management. Material and Methods: A cross-sectional analytical observational study was carried out in 2018 following the Strengthening the Reporting of Observational Studies in Epidemiology (STROBE) guidelines. The study population included dental students in the 4th and 10th course semester. A pre-formulated self-administered questionnaire containing 14 objective questions was used for data collection. Mean and standard deviation values were calculated. Results: A total of 308 responses were obtained. Overall, 15.9% of the respondents reported having previously experienced accidents with sharps. Most dental students who claimed to know the biological risks to which they are exposed were in the 5th and 8th course semesters, and 67.2% of them reported knowing how to proceed in the event of a sharp accident. Conclusion: A low prevalence of sharps accidents has been reported, and dental students are considered to have a good knowledge of biosafety. ABSTRACT Objective: The present study analyzed the biomechanical behavior of the generated stress on the external surface of the rehabilitation elements (implants, components and infrastructures) according to different occlusion patterns on a fixed partial denture on osseointegrated implants. Method: The experimental groups varied according to the location of the occlusal load applied to the Fixed partial denture, with a total occlusal load of 750N in all groups, opting for greater loads on the occlusal table of the molar in relation to the premolar. This evaluation was performed by the finite element method with simulations by the AnsysWorkbench 16.0 Software program. Results: The results analyzed for implants and their components showed that the more posterior the occlusal loading, the greater the stress developed (group 4), always in the connection area between the prosthetic component and the implant, as this location can induce greater screw loosening. The results analyzed for the infrastructures showed that the most distributed occlusal loading possible (group 1) is the best situation for generating less stress. However, even in group 3 which obtained the highest stresses in the critical area of the prosthetic connection, the zirconia flexural strength values generated were not worrisome. Conclusion: It can be concluded that the occlusal adjustment of Fixed partial dentures are preponderant and decisive factors for correct biomechanics and preservation of the system in the long term in order to avoid possible damage and/or failures, and exert significant and notorious differences in the behavior of all structures studied herein. RESUMO Objetivo: O presente estudo analisou o comportamento biomecânico do estresse gerado na superfície externa dos elementos reabilitadores (implantes, componentes e infraestruturas) de acordo com diferentes padrões de oclusão em uma prótese parcial fixa sobre implantes osseointegrados. Métodos: Os grupos experimentais variaram de acordo com a localização da carga oclusal aplicada na Prótese Parcial Fixa, com carga oclusal total de 750N em todos os grupos, optando por cargas maiores na mesa oclusal do molar em relação ao pré-molar. Esta avaliação foi realizada pelo método dos elementos finitos com simulações pelo programa AnsysWorkbench 16.0 Software. Resultados: Os resultados analisados para os implantes e seus componentes mostraram que quanto mais posterior a carga oclusal, maior a tensão desenvolvida (grupo 4), sempre na área de conexão entre o componente protético e o implante, pois este local pode induzir maior soltura do parafuso. Os resultados analisados para as infraestruturas mostraram que a carga oclusal mais distribuída possível (grupo 1) é a melhor situação para gerar menos estresse. No entanto, mesmo no grupo 3 que obteve as maiores tensões na área crítica da conexão protética, os valores de resistência à flexão da zircônia gerados não foram preocupantes. Conclusões: Pode-se concluir que o ajuste oclusal das Próteses Parciais Fixas são fatores preponderantes e decisivos para correta biomecânica e preservação do sistema a longo prazo a fim de evitar possíveis danos e/ou falhas, e exercem diferenças significativas e notórias no comportamento de todas as estruturas aqui estudadas. Forensic Odontology is characterized by offer dental knowledge to the Justice system. The Forensic Odontologist, in Brazil, can work in civil, criminal, labor and administrative forums. This research aimed to show the professional profile in the labor market, employability, financial aspects and prospects. The predominant age group comprised from 31 to 40 year-olds and there is a balance between male and females. The Southeast region has the highest rate of professionals and experts believe that the job market is booming in areas that are promising and rewarding. Among the various fields, there is teaching and the position of Forensic Odontologist in police forces through public tenders, the main areas responsible for the increasing interest of dentists for this specialty. It was concluded that there is a heterogeneous distribution of specialists in Forensic Dentistry in the country's different regions however, the labor market appears to be thriving with some branches within the area that can be exploited by professionals.

La Odontología Forense, se caracteriza por ofrecer a la justicia, el conocimiento dental. El Odontólogo Forense en Brasil, puede desempeñarse en materia civil, penal, laboral y administrativa. El objetivo de la investigación fue evaluar el mercado de trabajo para los especialistas en Odontología Forense, tratando de conocer el perfil profesional, aspectos de empleabilidad, remuneración y perspectivas de estos profesionales. El grupo de edad predominante comprende de 31 a 40 años de edad y existe un equilibrio entre hombres y mujeres. La región sudeste tiene el mayor número de profesionales y los expertos consideran que el mercado laboral se está expandiendo en sectores prometedores y bien pagados. Ent re los diversos campos de la actividad, está la docencia y la posición de Odontologo Forense en las fuerzas policiales a través de concursos públicos, son éstas, las principales áreas responsables del creciente interés de los Dentistas por ésta especialidad. Se concluye, que hay una distribución heterogénea de profesionales especialistas en Odontología Forense, entre las regiones de Brasil, sin embargo, el mercado laboral parece estar creciendo, con algunas ramas dentro del area que pueden ser explotadas por los profesionales.

The objective of this study was to conduct a review of the legal proceedings involving liability lawsuits filed against dentists in Ribeirão Preto, São Paulo, Brazil. A search was carried out of professionals duly registered with the Regional Council of Dentistry of São Paulo seeking professionals and clinics involved in civil proceedings in Ribeirão Preto - São Paulo. The results noted a significant increase (73.3%) in the number of lawsuits filed in the last five years, with the specialty in dental prostheses (35.6%) being the most frequent. It can be concluded that it is important for professionals to have information in reference to the increasing number of lawsuits in professional/patient relationship and that prevention measures are necessary for a safer dental practice.

El objetivo del trabajo fue realizar una revisión de los procesos judiciales que involucran demandas de responsabilidad civil interpuestas contra cirujanos-dentistas en el Forum de Ribeirão Preto, Estado de São Paulo, Brasil. Fue realizada una búsqueda nominalde profesionales y clínicas, debidamente inscritos en el Consejo Regional de Odontología de São Paulo, involucrados en procesos civiles en el municipio de Ribeirão Preto - São Paulo. Como resultado fue observado un significativo aumento (73,3%) en el número de demandas presentadas en los últimos cinco años, siendo la especialidad de prótesis dental (35,6%) la más involucrada. Se puede concluir que es importante el conocimiento por parte del profesional en cuanto al aumento de divergencias en la relación profesional/paciente y algunas medidas son necesariaspara su prevención, para que los cirujanos-dentistas busquen una práctica profesional más segura.

Objective: The present study evaluated the use of a reagent to stabilize the DNA extracted from human dental tissues stored under different temperature conditions and time intervals. Material and Methods: A total of 161 teeth were divided into two distinct groups: intact teeth and isolated dental pulp tissue. The samples were stored with or without the product at different time intervals and temperature. After storage, DNA extraction and genomic DNA quantification were performed using real-time PCR; the fragments of the 32 samples that represented each possible condition were analyzed to find the four pre-selected markers in STR analysis. Results: The results of the quantification showed values ranging from 0.01 to 10,246.88 ng/μL of DNA. The statistical difference in the quantity of DNA was observed when the factors related to the time and temperature of storage were analyzed. In relation to the use of the specific reagent, its use was relevant in the group of intact teeth when they were at room temperature for 30 and 180 days. The analysis of the fragments in the 32 selected samples was possible irrespective of the amount of DNA, confirming that the STR analysis using an automated method yields good results. Conclusions: The use of a specific reagent showed a significant difference in stabilizing DNA in samples of intact human teeth stored at room temperature for 30 and 180 days, while the results showed no justification for using the product under the other conditions tested.

The analysis of dental records is an essential tool for human identification. The present study aimed to highlight the importance of dental records for identification of skeletonized bodies. In form of conclusion, the method of dental identification using dental records represents a valid option for forensic dentistry.
