Abstract New biodegradable packaging has been developed from renewable sources, mainly of vegetable origin. Arrowroot starch has been recently used to produce high-quality biodegradable films capable of behaving well when incorporating oils, extracts, metal, and metal nanocomposites. The study aimed to verify the impact of incorporating metals in the sulfate and chloride forms in a biopolymeric matrix from arrowroot starch in terms of biodegradability, physicochemical and microbiological parameters. Different arrowroot films were produced to incorporate solutions with a concentration of 1 Mol L−1 of sulfate and chloride metals. The action of biodegradability in soil, UV transmittance, and visible light were observed in UV-Vis spectrophotometry and antimicrobial action on Escherichia coli, Staphylococcus aureus, Salmonella serovar Typhimurium, and Salmonella serovar Enteritidis. Good results were obtained, such as biodegradability time between 81.70 to 100 % (30 days), a low transmission rate of UV radiation and visible light between 250 to 890 nm, high capacity for bacterial inhibition between 22.08 to 10.05 mm for E. coli, among 25.59 to 11.10 mm for S. aureus, between 22.14 to 11.66 mm for S. serovar Typhimurium and between 21.11 to 8.26 mm for S. serovar Enteritidis. It is concluded that the biodegradable films of arrowroot starch incorporated with metals showed potential in all the evaluated tests, thus characterizing possible new products for different uses, such as low time available in the environment, preservation of the characteristics of special products, and antimicrobial capacity.

Resumen Se han desarrollado nuevos embalajes biodegradables de fuentes renovables principalmente de origen vegetal. El almidón de arrurruz se ha usado en la producción de películas biodegradables de alta calidad, capaces de tener un buen comportamiento al incorporar aceites, extractos, metales y nanocompuestos metálicos. El estudio tiene como objetivo verificar el impacto de la incorporación de metales en las formas de sulfato y cloruro en una matriz biopolimérica de almidón de arrurruz en términos de biodegradabilidad, parámetros fisicoquímicos y microbiológicos. Se produjeron diferentes películas de arrurruz con soluciones a una concentración de 1 Mol L−1 de metales sulfato y cloruro. La acción de biodegradabilidad en el suelo, transmitancia UV y luz visible se observó en espectrofotometría UV-Vis, y acción antimicrobiana sobre Escherichia coli, Staphylococcus aureus, Salmonella serovar Typhimurium y Salmonella serovar Enteritidis. Se obtuvieron buenos resultados, como tiempo de biodegradabilidad entre 81,70 a 100 % (30 días), baja tasa de transmisión de radiación UV y luz visible entre 250 a 890 nm, alta capacidad de inhibición bacteriana entre 22,08 a 10,05 mm para E. coli, entre 25,59 a 11,10 mm para S. aureus, entre 22,14 a 11,66 mm para S. serovar Typhimurium y entre 21,11 a 8,26 mm para S. serovar Enteritidis. Se concluye que las películas biodegradables de almidón de arrurruz incorporadas con metales mostraron potencial en todas las pruebas evaluadas, caracterizando así posibles nuevos productos para diferentes usos, tales como bajo tiempo disponible en el ambiente, preservación de las características de productos especiales y capacidad antimicrobiana.

Miconia chamissois Naudin is one of the numerous plant species included in the Melastomataceae family, inhabiting areas of natural vegetation in the Cerrado domain. This species presents a typical seasonal event and regular annual cycle with white and aromatic flowers. The study aimed to evaluate the floral ethanol extract of M. chamissois as to its phytochemical composition, physicochemical and biological activities. The ethanol extract was produced by maceration and phytochemical, physicochemical and biological tests were carried out using different methodologies. The results presented in this study demonstrate that M. chamissois is a promising species in the search for biologically active compounds, where it presented considerable numbers of phytochemical classes, expressive total flavonoid and phenolic contents, as well as photoprotection, antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, antimicrobial and cytotoxic activities. Future work should focus on the floral ethanol extract of M. chamissois to determine other biological actions in vitro and ex vitro.

Miconia chamissois Naudin é uma das inúmeras espécies vegetais incluídas na família Melastomataceae, habitando áreas de vegetação natural no domínio Cerrado. Esta espécie apresenta evento sazonal típico e ciclo anual regular, com flores brancas e aromáticas. O estudo teve por objetivo avaliar o extrato etanólico floral de M. chamissois quanto a sua composição fitoquímica, físico-química e atividades biológicas. O extrato etanólico foi produzido por maceração e os ensaios fitoquímicos, físico-químicos e biológicos realizados por diferentes metodologias. Os resultados apresentados neste estudo demonstram que M. chamissois é uma espécie promissora na busca de compostos biologicamente ativos, onde apresentou consideráveis números de classes fitoquímicas, conteúdos de flavonoides e fenólicos totais expressivos, bem como atividades de fotoproteção, antioxidante, anti-inflamatória, antimicrobiana e citotóxica. Trabalhos futuros deverão concentrar-se sobre o extrato etanólico floral de M. chamissois para determinar outras ações biológicas in vitro e ex vitro.

RESUMO O algodão possui grande importância social e econômica, devido a sua utilização na indústria têxtil, produção de óleo comestível, biodiesel e alimentação animal, dessa forma é de grande importância selecionar a cultivar que apresenta o melhor desempenho nas condições climáticas do Cerrado goiano e estudar seu comportamento em função de doses de potássio pelas inúmeras funções na planta e ainda identificar o manejo do solo que proporcione as melhores condições visando um maior desempenho da cultura. Dessa forma, objetivou-se com o experimento, avaliar cinco doses de potássio (100; 150; 200; 250; 300 kg ha-1 de K2O), dois sistemas de manejo do solo (plantio direto e plantio convencional) no crescimento, desenvolvimento e reprodução de quatro cultivares de algodão (BRS-371, BRS-372, BRS-286 e BRS-201). Os dados de crescimento e desenvolvimento do algodoeiro foram submetidos à análise de variância e para os dados referentes às doses de potássio, realizou-se análise de regressão, e referentes às cultivares e sistemas de manejo do solo teste de média, ainda avaliou-se a correlação entre as variáveis vegetativas e reprodutivas analisadas. O sistema de plantio convencional proporciona melhores respostas ao algodoeiro herbáceo independentemente dos demais fatores avaliados. A cultivar BRS-286 apresenta melhor resposta nas condições avaliadas. A cultivar BRS-371 no sistema de plantio direto apresenta maior número de ramo frutífero na dose de potássio de 105,5% e botão floral na dose de potássio de 96,16%. A área foliar específica é positivamente correlacionada com o número de capulho aos 120 dias após emergência do algodoeiro herbáceo.

ABSTRACT Cotton has great socio-economic importance due to its use in textile industry, edible oil and biodiesel production and animal feed. Thus, the objective of this work was to identify the best potassium rate and soil management for cotton crops and select among cultivars, the one that better develops in the climatic conditions of the Cerrado biome in the State of Goiás, Brazil. Thus, the effect of five potassium rates (100, 150, 200, 250 and 300 kg ha-1 of K2O) and two soil management systems (no-till and conventional tillage) on the growth, development and reproduction of four cotton cultivars (BRS-371, BRS-372, BRS-286 and BRS-201) was evaluated. The data on cotton growth and development were subjected to analysis of variance; the data on potassium rates were subjected to regression analysis; and the data on cultivars and soil management to mean test. The correlation between the vegetative and reproductive variables was also assessed. The conventional tillage system provides the best results for the herbaceous cotton, regardless of the others factors evaluated. The cultivar BRS-286 has the best results in the conditions evaluated. The cultivar BRS-371 under no-till system present the highest number of fruiting branches at a potassium rate of 105.5% and highest number of floral buds at a potassium rate of 96.16%. The specific leaf area was positively correlated with the number of bolls per plant at 120 days after emergence of the herbaceous cotton.
