Abstract Objective: This study aimed to analyze the effect of major depressive disorder (MDD) as a risk factor for suicidal ideation in individuals whose ages varied from 11 to 24 years and who were attending educational institutions. Data source: A systematic review was carried out by searching in PubMed and Biblioteca Virtual em Saúde (BVS). Original studies conducted in educational institutions, including individuals whose age varied from 11 to 24 years, in English, Spanish, or Portuguese were included. Data synthesis: Eight studies were selected for the meta-analysis, including 35,443 youths, with an average age of 16.8 years, predominantly female (51.2%), and from middle-income Asian countries (91.6%). An odds ratio of MDD of 3.89 (95%CI 2.46–6.17) for suicide ideation in youth was found. Subgroup analysis showed higher effects in Asia (OR=4.71; 95%CI 3.22–6.89) than Americas (OR=1.71; 95%CI 1.44–2.03). The meta-regression model indicated that younger adolescents (coef=-0.63; 95%CI 1.09–-0.18; p<0.01) and older studies (coef=-0.23; 95%CI 0.039–-0.08; p<0.01) presented higher effects of MDD on suicidal ideation. Conclusions: Early detection and treatment of MDD in youth patients are of utmost importance for preventing suicidal ideation. Resumo Objetivo: Analisar o efeito do transtorno depressivo maior (TDM) como fator de risco para a ideação suicida em indivíduos com idades entre 11 e 24 anos que frequentam instituições de ensino. Fontes de dados: Revisão sistemática realizada até agosto de 2020 por meio de buscas nas bases United States National Library of Medicine (PubMed) e Biblioteca Virtual em Saúde (BVS), sem limitações quanto à data de publicação. Síntese dos dados: Oito estudos foram selecionados para a metanálise, incluindo 35.443 jovens com idade média de 16,8 anos, predominantemente do sexo feminino (51,2%) e de países asiáticos de renda média (91,6%). Foi encontrado odds ratio (OR) de TDM de 3,89 (intervalo de confiança — IC95% 2,46–6,17) para a ideação suicida em jovens. A análise de subgrupo mostrou efeitos maiores na Ásia (OR=4,71; IC95% 3,22–6,89) do que nas Américas (OR=1,71; IC95% 1,44–2,03). Abstract The year 2019 brought three such impacts of high socio-environmental proportions in Brazil: the dam collapse in Brumadinho, oil spills on the coast, and fires in the Amazon. We investigated the Brazilian population’s perceptions of the country’s overall environmental situation, the degree to which Brazilians felt affected by these impacts considering personal and social factors, and the entities they held responsible for these disasters. Through Facebook’s social media networks, we disseminated structured online surveys for Brazilian citizens above 18 years. Educational background explained how much the 775 respondents felt affected by the three evaluated events. Age was an explanatory factor for the degree to which the respondents felt affected by the dam collapse, and proximity to the disasters, while income levels were for the dam collapse and the fires in the Amazon. The government, criminal activity, and private companies were considered to be the main responsible for these three impacts. Abstract Objective: The association between diabetes and Strongyloides infection remains controversial. This study aimed to detect Strongyloides stercoralis DNA in the feces of patients with Diabetes Mellitus type 2 (DM2). Methods: Fecal samples were analyzed via the Lutz, Rugai, and agar plate culture methods. PCR amplification was performed using two targets (PCR-genus and PCR-species) located on the S. stercoralis 18S ribosomal. Results: The positivity for S. stercoralis using parasitological methods was 1.1%. PCR-genus (14.13%) demonstrated a higher positivity than PCR-species (9.78%). Conclusion: The results confirm the greater positivity of the molecular diagnosis in relation to parasitological methods, reinforcing its use as an additional tool for the diagnosis of S. stercoralis infection in patients with DM2 living in endemic areas for this helminthiasis. HIGHLIGHTS Positivity for strongyloidiasis in coproscopic exam was low in diabetic patients. PCR is more sensitive for detecting S. stercoralis infection in diabetic patients. Molecular diagnosis is an important tool for the detection of S. stercoralis.

ABSTRACT Objective To investigate the histological influence of waterpipe smoke exposure on lung tissues of Swiss mice during the periods of 7, 15, 30, 60, and 90 days. Methods The sample consisted of 60 animals, divided into 6 groups, one control group, exposed only to air, and the other experimental groups, daily submitted to water pipe smoke for 30 minutes through the whole body system, for 7, 15, 30, 60 and 90 days. After these periods, the mice were euthanized to obtain the tissue samples and subsequent preparation and analysis of histological slides. Results In the slide microscopy, the control group presented normal aspects. In experimental groups, exacerbation of inflammation was observed, there was a increased thickness of intra-alveolar septa, reduced alveolar lumen, areas of ciliary loss, and neovascular formation. And as the animals' exposure to smoke was extended, the progressive exacerbation of these pulmonary changes was noted. Conclusions The exposure to waterpipe smoke stimulates inflammation and cellular changes in lung tissues of Swiss mice and suggests that the longer the animals' exposure period, the more exacerbated this picture will appear.

METHODS Quantitative (cross-sectional and longitudinal) analysis of pre and post-knowledge tests; qualitative analyses of the training courses; patient recruitment; conduction of IPT-G sessions; supervision of IPT-G therapists; application of a semi-structured questionnaire to assess, investigate, and develop strategies against the identified barriers. RESULTS About 120 clinicians answered the pre-test; 84 completed the post-test. Pre- and post-test scores of IPT-G knowledge were significantly different. Twenty initially trained clinicians completed additional supervision in IPT-G. Qualitative analysis identified twelve barriers and six facilitators to IPT-G implementation in individual, organizational, and systemic contexts. CONCLUSIONS Implementation of IPT-G in primary care is a complex process with several steps. In the first step, health professionals were successfully trained in IPT-G. However, subsequent steps were more complex. Therefore, careful planning of IPT-G implementation is essential to maximize the success of this innovation.

ABSTRACT Blastocystis sp. is an enteric protist commonly found in human fecal samples. In Brazil, few studies have been developed, but none of them has explored the presence of Blastocystis in patients with diabetes mellitus. We evaluated the occurrence and molecular identification of Blastocystis sp. among patients with diabetes mellitus in the Midwest region, Goias State, Brazil. Genomic DNA was obtained from 175 fecal samples (99 from the diabetic group and 76 from the control group). PCR was performed using pan-Blastocystis primers from the SSU-rDNA gene. Microscopic examination revealed positivity of 12.1% and 7.9% for Blastocystis in diabetics and in controls, respectively. Amplification of Blastocystis DNA was observed in 34.4% (34 of 99) and 30.3% (23 of 76) from the diabetic and control groups, respectively. Phylogenetic analyses and BLAST searches revealed six subtypes among Blastocystis isolates in the diabetic group, represented by ST1 (38.2%), ST2 (11.8%), ST3 (35.3%), ST6 (2.9%), ST7 (2.9%) and ST8 (8.8%). In the control group, ST1 (21.8%), ST2 (21.8%), ST3 (43.5%), ST6 (4.4%) and ST8 (8.7%) were identified. This study is the first report regarding the occurrence and subtypes distribution of Blastocystis in patients with diabetes mellitus in Brazil. The results reinforce the potential risk of Blastocystis infection in patients with diabetes, in addition, it contributes to the understanding of the genetic diversity of this enigmatic organism.

Abstract A new oleic acid derivative plasticizer, epoxidized trimethylolpropane trioleate (EPO), has been synthesized and its application in PVC formulations compared with di(2-ethylhexyl) 1,2-cyclohexanoate (DOCH/DEHCH), a commercial phthalate-free plasticizer of petrochemical origin. EPO and their blends with DOCH were added to PVC resin (50 PHR) and the plasticized PVC has been characterized by thermal and mechanical measurements. EPO demonstrated good compatibility with the PVC resin improving the thermal stability and elongation at break. Due to EPO high molar mass, a slight increase in the glass transition temperature and hardness was observed as the content of EPO in the plasticizer blend increased. The results indicate that EPO is a potential plasticizer for PVC when pure and, by replacing 50% of DOCH, the PVC compound shows similar properties to pure DOCH, but better elongation at break and thermal stability.

Para tanto, foi observado o cotidiano de um Centro de Referência em Assistência Social. O registro em diário de campo foi analisado a partir da proposta teórico-metodológica construcionista social de análise de práticas discursivas e produção de sentidos. Os sentidos sobre relacionamento psicólogo/a-usuários/as nessas práticas foram discutidos em termos dos jogos de posicionamentos que implicavam e dos discursos sociais que os atravessavam. Destacaram-se a disputa de entendimentos entre profissional e usuária/o sobre possíveis planos de ação, a influência de discursos de julgamento moral e responsabilização individual nesse processo, os efeitos do lugar da/o profissional como especialista, a dificuldade de se pensar estratégias com o foco grupal, coletivo e comunitário e os efeitos de um olhar psicologizante sobre a/o usuária/o.

ABSTRACT. The aim of this study was to understand the psychologist-user discursive practices in the quotidian of a basic social protection service of the Brazilian Unified Social Welfare System. In order to do so, the observation of the quotidian of a Social Welfare Referral Center was carried out. The field notes were analyzed from the social constructionist theoretical-methodological proposal of making meaning analysis. The meanings about the psychologist-users relationship implied in these practices were discussed in terms of the games of positioning that they implied and of the social discourses that ran through them. The dispute of understandings regarding action plans between professional and user and the influence of discourses of moral judgment and individual responsibilization were highlighted in this process, as were the effects of the professional’s place as a specialist, the difficulty of thinking about strategies with a group, collective and community focus and the effects of a psychologizing view regarding the user.

RESUMEN. El objetivo de esta investigación fue el de comprender las prácticas discursivas de psicólogo y usuario en el cotidiano de un servicio de protección social básica del Sistema Único de Asistencia Social en Brasil. Para ello, se realizó la observación en el cotidiano de un Centro de Referencia en Asistencia Social. Se analizó el registro en diario de campo a partir de la propuesta teórico-metodológica construccionista social de análisis de producción de sentidos. Los sentidos sobre relación psicólogo-usuarios en esas prácticas fueron discutidos en términos de los juegos de posicionamientos que implicaban y de los discursos sociales que los atravesaban. Se destacaron la disputa de entendimientos entre profesional y usuario sobre los planes de acción, la influencia de discursos de juicio moral y responsabilización individual en ese proceso, los efectos del lugar del profesional como especialista, la dificultad de pensar estrategias con el objeto el foco grupal, colectivo y comunitario y los efectos de una mirada psicologizante sobre el usuario.
