ABSTRACT Leaf litter decomposition and the release of nutrients from macauba palm leaves play a major role in nutrient return to the soil in a conservation environment. This study evaluated macauba palm leaf decomposition, macronutrient contents and biochemical composition under contrasting water conditions in the Brazilian Cerrado. Macauba leaves were collected from plants in two different environments (low and high water table conditions), placed in litter bags and evaluated according to their decomposition, macronutrients, lignin, cellulose and hemicellulose for 420 days. In addition, green and dry leaves were collected for macronutrient analyses. Litter decomposition ranged between 49 % and 59 % up to 180 days. The half-life of litter ranged from 141 to 198 days. The leaf litter decomposition of macauba was practically stable during the dry season, whereas at the beginning of the rainy season, decomposition resumed. Nitrogen, P and S were higher in the green leaves, whereas the Ca levels were higher in the dry leaves. In addition, the K levels were twofold higher in the green leaves than in the dry leaves. Lignin release from macauba residues was slower than cellulose and hemicellulose. The decomposition rates of hemicellulose were higher initially due to its high solubility, although it gradually decreased with the decomposition process. Lignin decomposition was also higher at the beginning of the process but stabilized during the drought period. RESUMO As leis florestais brasileiras não fornecem especificações para o manejo de florestas dominadas por bambu. Objetivou-se caracterizar a estrutura populacional de bambu, sua distribuição espacial e os efeitos da densidade de brotos na diversidade e densidade de espécies arbóreas dominantes no sudoeste da Floresta Amazônica. Realizou-se inventário em floresta com e sem interferência antrópica e mediu-se a altura e o diâmetro à altura do peito das árvores, bem como a distribuição diametral, vertical e espacial dos brotos. A distribuição diametral do bambu apresentou comportamento irregular nas duas áreas em estudo e a distribuição vertical comportou-se de forma irregular na floresta sem antropização, de forma assimétrica negativa quando comparada à floresta que sofreu perturbação antrópica. A distribuição espacial do bambu não apresentou alterações em seu padrão de agregados entre os ambientes estudados, e sua densidade não apresentou correlação significativa com a densidade e diversidade de espécies arbóreas. ABSTRACT Brazilian forestry laws do not provide specifications for the management of bamboo-dominated forests. This study aimed to characterize the bamboo population structure, its spatial distribution and the effects of shoot density on the diversity and density of dominant tree species in the southwest of the Amazon Rainforest. An inventory was carried out in forest with and without anthropogenic interference, and the height and diameter at breast height of the trees were measured, as well as the diametrical, vertical and spatial distribution of the shoots. The bamboo diametrical distribution presented an irregular behavior in the two areas under study and the vertical distribution behaved irregularly in the forest without anthropization, in an asymmetric negative way when compared to the forest that suffered anthropogenic disturbance. Abstract The objective of the study was to evaluate the growth of B. vulgaris seedlings by incorporating five doses of sewage sludge (0, 10, 30, 50, and 70%) into the substrate, with three types of propagules. The design used was completely randomized (DIC), with 30 replicates per treatment. At 30 and 90 days, the parameters were measured: height, number of shoots, and the dry mass of the roots and aerial part. The means were compared by the Scott-Knott test. It was found that the incorporation of sewage sludge was not detrimental to the growth and development of the seedlings. Concerning the three types of propagules, the highlight was P1, which was more promising in the seedling production via cuttings. The most indicated sewage sludge dosage is the incorporation of 30% since it showed higher growth of seedlings. With dry mass, from the aerial part, the highlight was the propagulum P2, followed by P1. Root dry mass values were low in all treatments evaluated, suggesting the need for a longer evaluation time in the development and establishment of bamboo seedlings in a nursery.

Resumo O objetivo do trabalho foi avaliar o crescimento de mudas de B. vulgaris através da incorporação cinco doses de lodo de esgoto (0, 10, 30, 50 e 70%) ao substrato, com três tipos de propágulos. O delineamento utilizado foi inteiramente casualizado (DIC), com 30 repetições por tratamento. Aos 30 e 90 dias foram mensurados os parámetros: altura, número de brotos, e a massa seca das raízes e parte aérea. As médias foram comparadas pelo teste Scott-Knott. Verificou-se que a incorporação de lodo de esgoto não foi prejudicial ao crescimento e desenvolvimento das mudas. Em relação aos três tipos de propágulos o destaque foi P1, que se mostrou mais promissor à produção de mudas via estaquia. Para a dosagem de lodo de esgoto mais indicada é a incorporação de 30%, uma vez que apresentou maior crescimento das mudas. Em relação a massa seca, da parte aérea o destaque foi o propágulo P2, seguido de P1. Já os valores da massa seca de raiz foram baixos em todos os tratamentos avaliados, o que sugere a necessidade de um maior tempo de avaliação no desenvolvimento e estabelecimento das mudas de bambu em viveiro.

RESUMO Com a existente redução da cobertura vegetal do Cerrado, diversas espécies arbóreas têm suas áreas de ocorrência diminuídas e como consequência perdem parte de sua diversidade genética. Para contrapor este cenário faz-se necessário conhecer a diversidade genética afim de embasar projetos e medidas práticas de conservação. Assim, este trabalho teve como objetivo investigar a variabilidade genética populacional de Annona crassiflora por meio de dados morfométricos de frutos e sementes em quatro populações no Brasil central. No total foram obtidos 152 frutos de 73 matrizes dos quais foram medidos a altura, diâmetro, massa do fruto, massa de 100 sementes e número de sementes por fruto. Os frutos foram despolpados e as semente retiradas para se medir a altura, largura e espessura. O estudo de cluster hierárquico mostrou o agrupamento de 11 pequenos grupos e dois grandes grupos, sendo que nestes dois grandes grupos há representantes das quatro populações amostradas. Isso mostra que não há uma divisão específica das populações, indicando alta variabilidade genética. Os frutos da população de Buritis foram, via de regra, significativamente maiores que das outras populações o que pode evidenciar distanciamento genético ou diferentes condições ambientais de polinização. Este padrão não foi observado nas analise das dimensões das sementes, embora tenha havido diferença estatística entre as populações. De forma geral as maiores dimensões foram encontradas nas populações de Planaltina e Buritis. Diante disso as análises indicam alta diversidade genética e frutos/sementes com dimensões maiores nos locais com melhor estado de conservação.

ABSTRACT With the existing reduction of the vegetation cover of the Cerrado, several tree species have their areas of occurrence diminished, and as a consequence, they lose part of their genetic diversity. To counter this scenario it is necessary to know the genetic diversity in order to base projects and practical conservation measures. Thus, the objective of this work was to investigate the genetic variability of Annona crassiflora by means of morphometric data of fruits and seeds in four populations in central Brazil. In total, 152 fruits were obtained from 73 matrices, of which the height, diameter, fruit mass, mass of 100 seeds and number of seeds per fruit were measured. The fruits were stripped and the seed removed to measure their height, width and thickness. The hierarchical cluster study showed the grouping of 11 small groups and two large groups, and in these two large groups there are representatives of the four populations sampled. This shows that there is no specific division of populations, indicating high genetic variability. The fruits of the Buritis population were, as a rule, significantly larger than those of other populations, which may indicate genetic distancing or different environmental conditions of pollination and dispersion. This pattern was not observed in the seed size analysis, although there was a statistical difference between the populations. In general, the largest dimensions were found in the populations of Planaltina and Buritis. Therefore, the analyzes indicate high genetic diversity and fruits/seeds with larger dimensions in the best-preserved state.

O presente trabalho objetivou avaliar a qualidade de mudas de seis espécies de eucalipto, produzidas em substratos com diferentes proporções dos resíduos orgânicos: fibra de coco e casca de arroz carbonizada. O experimento foi implantado no Viveiro Florestal da UnB. Como substratos, foram utilizados os dois resíduos misturados à vermiculita em três proporções (25%, 50% e 75%). As espécies foram avaliadas separadamente, cada uma com seis tratamentos dispostos em DIC no esquema fatorial 2×3 (dois resíduos e três proporções), com oito repetições. Foram avaliados: altura, diâmetro, número de folhas, massa seca aérea e radicial, relação altura/diâmetro e índice de qualidade de Dickson. O resíduo fibra de coco foi superior em relação à casca de arroz carbonizada para altura, diâmetro, massa seca aérea e relação altura/diâmetro para a maioria das espécies avaliadas. A incorporação de 25% da fibra de coco proporcionou um maior padrão de qualidade das mudas em todas as espécies estudadas.

This study aimed to evaluate the quality of seedlings of six eucalypt species produced on substrates with different proportions of organic waste: coconut fiber and rice hulls. The experiment was carried out in the forest nursery of the University of Brasilia (UnB). The substrates used comprised combinations of two residues mixed with vermiculite at three proportions (25%, 50% and 75%). The species were evaluated separately, each with 6 treatments arranged in a completely randomized design in a 2x3 factorial (two residues and three proportions) with 8 repetitions. The following parameters were evaluated: height, diameter, number of leaves, dry mass of shoots and roots, height/diameter ratio, and Dickson quality index. Higher measures of height, diameter, dry mass of shoots, and height/diameter ratio were observed on the substrate with coconut fiber compared with the substrate with rice hulls for most species evaluated. The incorporation of 25% of vermiculite to coconut fiber residue provided a higher quality standard of seedlings for all species studied.

As áreas de ocorrência de florestas paludosas se encontram alteradas e restritas devido aos processos de destruição e fragmentação, com consequente redução do seu tamanho populacional. Calophyllum brasiliense Camb. é uma espécie arbórea abundante em ambientes ciliares, devido à sua preferência em colonizar solos com alta saturação hídrica, sendo considerada especialista em hábitat. Além das consequências ecológicas, como mortalidade e baixo recrutamento, poderá ocorrer perda da variabilidade genética, comprometendo a viabilidade da espécie no local. Nesse contexto, foi realizado um censo da espécie em um fragmento de floresta paludosa, sendo estabelecidas quatro classes de altura para a análise genética. Os marcadores aloenzimáticos revelaram 11 locos polimórficos, com um número médio de 2,0 alelos em cada loco, não sendo observada a perda ou a fixação de alelos e polimorfismo de 100%. As Classes I e III apresentaram excesso de homozigotos, sendo esse valor não significativo para na Classe I. A heterozigosidade foi superior à esperada nas Classes II e IV. Os valores de diversidade genética encontrados na espécie estudada foram considerados altos em relação aos valores relatados em outras espécies arbóreas. Portanto, a ocorrência de mutações e a incorporação de novos alelos na população são elevadas, além de aumentarem o número de recombinações e múltiplas paternidades nas progênies. No geral, a análise da distribuição espacial dos genótipos foi aleatória nas classes analisadas e, na Classe I, os indivíduos próximos a uma distância de 10 m apresentaram estrutura de família. A alta diversidade genética da espécie e a ausência de estruturação espacial dos genótipos na maioria das classes analisadas devem ser consideradas em planos de conservação dessa área.

The areas of occurrence of swampy forests have been altered and restricted due to destruction and fragmentation processes, with consequent reduction of their population size. Calophyllum brasiliense Camb. is an abundant tree species in Riparian environments for its preference for colonizing high water saturation soils, being considered specialist in habitat. Besides the ecological consequences, such as mortality and low recruitment, genetic variability loss can occur, compromising the viability of the species in the place. Thus, molecular markers are necessary to evaluate the genetic effects. Within this context, a census of the species was conducted in a swampy forest fragment, with four height classes being established for genetic analysis. The alloenzymatic markers revealed a total of 11 polymorphic loci with a mean number of 2.0 alleles in each locus it was not observed the loss or alleles fixation. The observed heterozigosity was larger than that expected for Classes II and IV, evidencing heterozygote excess. Classes I and III presented homozygote excess, the value being non significant for Class I. The genetic diversity values found were considered high compared to other tree species. Thus, the occurrence of mutations and the incorporation of new alleles in the population are high, besides increasing the recombination number and multiple paternities in the progenies. Overall, the analysis of the spatial distribution of the genotypes was random for most classes analyzed, except for Class I, where the individuals close to a 10m distance presented family structure. The high genetic diversity of this species and absence of spatial structuring of the genotypes in most of the classes analyzed should be considered for conservation planning of this area.

Calophyllum brasiliense Camb. é uma espécie predominante de áreas com alta saturação hídrica, sendo comum nos ambientes cilares do sul de Minas Gerais. Com o intuito de se estudar a variabilidade genética dessa espécie, 20 indivíduos reprodutivos de C. brasiliense foram amostrados de duas populações localizadas a montante do Reservatório Hidroelétrico do Funil, localizado no Município de Lavras,MG. A análise de eletroforese isoenzimática permitiu a obtenção de 17 alelos, distribuídos entre oito locos, sendo estes representados em cinco sistemas enzimáticos: alfa-esterase, beta-esterase, fosfatase ácida, glutamato oxalacetato, malato desidrogenase e transaminase. Os índices de diversidade revelaram um baixo número de alelos por loco em ambas as populações (1,75 e 1,50). A porcentagem de locos polimórficos (P) foi de 37,5% e 50% nas populações I e II, respectivamente. A heterozigosidade média observada foi de 0,119 e 0,111 e a esperada, de 0,131 e 0,112. O número de migrantes (Nm) encontrado entre as populações foi de 2,70. O tamanho efetivo estimado foi de 18 indivíduos para a população I e 19 para a II.

Calophyllum brasiliense Camb. is a predominant species in areas with high water saturation such as the riparian forests in southern Minas Gerais State. The objective of this research was to study the genetic variability of C. brasiliense populations. Twenty individuals were sampled from two populations located in Funil Dam in Lavras-MG. Isozyme eletrophoresis analysis provided evidence of 17 alleles distributed in 8 loci, which were represented in five enzymatic systems: alpha-esterase, beta esterase, acid phosphatase, malate dehydrogenase and transaminase oxalacetatum glutamate. The diversity indexes showed a low number of alleles per loci in both populations, pop I (1.75) and pop II (1.50). The polymorphic loci percentage (P) were 37.5% and 50% in populations I and II respectively. The mean heterozygosities were 0.119 and 0.111, while the expected was 0.131 and 0.112. The number of migrants (Nm) between populations was 2.70. The estimated effective size was 18 individuals for population I, and 19 for population II.
