Abstract Hydrolysis reactions can be carried out using triglycerides with different carbon chain sizes, with acetic acid and ethanoic acid being the most common products, in addition to glycerol which would be the common product in any hydrolysis reaction in the production of biodiesel. In the case of Macaúba oil, it is suspected that when undergoing a hydrolysis reaction, as a mixture, the triglycerides, oleic, palmitic and stearic are likely to be the most important reagents and consumption in the reactions. According to the literature, there is a shortage of information concerning the compounds involved in the hydrolysis of the reactions of vegetable oils, so the availability of experimental data on the molecules involved in the production of the fatty acids and glycerol reactions is scarce in literature. In many studies, methods of group contributions or empirical correlations are used to predict the properties of molecules. Thus, in this work, an initial thermodynamic analysis of the reactions occurring in the hydrolysis of Macaúba oil, especially of tripalmitin and triolein, was performed in a temperature range from 300 to 700 K. The thermodynamic parameters employed in this work, for some compounds, were estimated by methods available in the literature. The calculation of the Gibbs energy of the reactions was done by employing the results of the enthalpy of reactions found in previous works. Finally, from the possession of the set of these parameters, for the possible hydrolysis reactions to be studied, it was possible to estimate the reactionary Gibbs energy of the same, which allowed adding more information in this field of study.

Abstract Recent literature points to the beneficial effects of religiosity on coping with stressors associated with the job market, serving as a channel of social and psychological support. However, little is known about how and to what extent religious beliefs and practices influence the values, opinions, perceptions and social attitudes of the youth segment. Given this, this article aims to understand the importance of the intensity of religious practice on the job search motivation of young Brazilians, using data from the 2013 National Health Survey (PNS). To this aim, an empirical strategy was adopted based on the extended regression model (ERM), and more specifically, the probit model with endogenous ordinal treatment. Generally speaking, estimates indicate that religion improves the incentive to leave total inactivity and seek occupational engagement, even in young people who are partially dedicated to studies. The results point to a growing effect of religious intensity on the search for employment vis-à-vis inactivity. An average treatment effect of engagement in the labor market is estimated at 28.7 percentage points (p.p.) for young people with moderate attendance and 61.3 p.p. for those with high participation in religious activities. Resumo A literatura recente aponta os efeitos benéficos da religiosidade sobre o enfrentamento de estressores associados ao mercado de trabalho, servindo como um canal de apoio social e psicológico. Contudo, pouco se sabe a respeito de como e até que ponto as crenças e as práticas religiosas influenciam os valores, opiniões, percepções e atitudes sociais do segmento juvenil. Diante disto, este artigo tem como objetivo compreender a importância da intensidade da prática religiosa sobre a motivação de busca por trabalho de jovens brasileiros, usando dados da Pesquisa Nacional de Saúde (PNS) de 2013. Para tanto, adotou-se uma estratégia empírica baseada no modelo de regressão estendida (ERM), mais especificamente o probit com tratamento endógeno ordinal. Em grosso modo, as estimativas apontam que a religião melhora o incentivo de sair da total inatividade e procurar um engajamento ocupacional, mesmo em jovens que estão parcialmente dedicados aos estudos. Os resultados apontam um efeito crescente da intensidade religiosa na busca por emprego vis-à-vis a inatividade. RESUMEN Objetivos: describir la experiencia de la familia en relación con la vida diaria de un miembro familiar que experimenta sufrimiento mental. Métodos: se realizó un estudio cualitativo, descriptivo y fenomenológico basado en la ontología de la experiencia de Merleau-Ponty en diez hogares de una ciudad en el estado de Bahía, Brasil, donde residen 24 participantes de los Círculos de Intersubjetividad. ABSTRACT Objectives: to describe the family’s experience in relation to daily life with a family member experiencing mental suffering. Methods: a qualitative, descriptive, phenomenological study grounded in Merleau-Ponty’s ontology of experience was conducted in ten households in a city in the state of Bahia, Brazil, where 24 participants of the Intersubjectivity Wheels reside. Resumo A produção de culturas hortoindustriais na região do Ribatejo assenta em sistemas de monocultura com elevada intervenção fitotécnica, o que resulta em desequilíbrios de biodiversidade, perda de fertilidade e degradação progressiva dos solos. Nestes sistemas, a introdução de culturas de cobertura no período que antecede a cultura principal do ano agrícola pode contribuir para melhorar o estado do solo e a sustentabilidade da produção. O presente trabalho descreve a avaliação de indicadores microbiológicos do solo em dois campos piloto no Ribatejo, onde foram instaladas diferentes culturas de cobertura: mistura biodiversa de leguminosas e gramíneas, incluindo trevos inoculados com rizóbios; azevém anual (Lolium multiflorum); e nabo forrageiro (Raphanus sativus) para biofumigação. Em ambos os campos foram mantidos talhões-controlo, sem culturas de cobertura. As avaliações incidiram sobre atividades enzimáticas do solo (desidrogenase, fosfatase alcalina e β-glucosidase) e vários grupos de microrganismos, incluindo bactérias totais, bactérias fixadoras de azoto simbióticas (rizóbios), bactérias fixadoras de azoto de vida livre, bactérias solubilizadoras de fosfato e microrganismos fitoestimulantes. Os resultados indicaram uma tendência para o aumento da atividade microbiológica do solo e de microrganismos benéficos com as culturas de cobertura, em especial com a mistura biodiversa de leguminosas e gramíneas e com azevém anual.

Abstract The production of horto-industrial crops in the Portuguese region of Ribatejo is based on monoculture systems with high technical intervention, which results in soil biodiversity imbalances, loss of fertility and progressive degradation. In these systems, the introduction of cover crops preceding the main crop of the agricultural year can contribute to improving the soil status and the sustainability of the production systems. The present work describes the evaluation of soil microbiological indicators in two field trials in Ribatejo, where different cover crops were installed: biodiverse mixture of legumes and grasses, including clovers inoculated with rhizobia; annual ryegrass (Lolium multiflorum); and forage turnip (Raphanus sativus) for biofumigation. Control plots without cover crops were maintained in both fields. The evaluations focused on soil enzymatic activities (dehydrogenase, alkaline phosphatase and β-glucosidase) and several groups of microorganisms, including total bacteria, symbiotic nitrogen-fixing bacteria (rhizobia), free-living nitrogen-fixing bacteria, phosphate-solubilizing bacteria and phytostimulating microorganisms. The results indicated a tendency for the increase of soil microbiological activity and beneficial microorganisms with cover crops, especially with the biodiverse mixture of legumes and grasses and annual ryegrass.

Abstract Vasoplegic syndrome (VS) comprises a constellation of concurrent signs and symptoms: hypotension, high cardiac index, low systemic vascular resistance, low filling pressures, the tendency to occur diffuse bleeding, and sustained hypotension. All of these parameters may persist even despite the use of high doses of vasoconstrictor amines. VS arises from vasoplegic endothelial dysfunction with excessive release of nitric oxide by polymorphonuclear leukocytes mediated by the nitric oxide synthase’s inducible form and is associated with systemic inflammatory reaction and high morbimortality. The achievements regarding the treatment of VS with methylene blue (MB) are a valuable Brazilian contribution to cardiac surgery. The present text review was designed to deliver the accumulated knowledge in the past ten years of employing MB to treat VS after cardiac surgery. Considering that we have already published two papers describing acquired experiences and concepts after 15 and 20 years, now, as we achieve the 30-year mark, we compose a trilogy.

Resumo Até o presente momento, não foram identificados estudos sobre identidade de gênero que particularizassem alguma instituição de excelência na área da química no contexto da pandemia de covid-19 no Brasil. Embora exista disparidade de gênero, o Instituto de Química da Universidade Federal do Rio de Janeiro (IQ-UFRJ) apresenta uma elevada proporção de professoras se comparado à média nacional da área. Entretanto, foram evidenciados diversos fenômenos descritos na epistemologia relativa à identidade de gênero, dentre eles o efeito tesoura e o teto de vidro, pois os homens são a maioria dos pós-doutorados, dominam os quatro principais cargos da carreira acadêmica, compõem a maioria absoluta dos departamentos e recebem o dobro do número de bolsas de produtividade em pesquisa do Conselho Nacional de Desenvolvimento Científico e Tecnológico.

Abstract To date, no studies on gender identity have been identified that would single out any institution of excellence in the field of Chemistry in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic in Brazil. Although there is a gender gap, the Institute of Chemistry at the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (IQ-UFRJ) has a high proportion of teachers compared to the national average in the area. However, several phenomena described in the epistemology related to gender identity were evidenced, among them the scissors effect and the glass ceiling, since men are the majority of post-doctorates, dominate the four main positions of the academic career, make up the absolute majority of departments and receive double the number of research productivity grants from the National Council for Scientific and Technological Development.

Resumen Hasta la fecha, no se han identificado estudios sobre identidad de género en alguna institución de excelencia en el campo de la Química en el marco de la pandemia de covid-19 en Brasil. Si bien existe una disparidad de género, el Instituto de Química de la Universidad Federal de Rio de Janeiro (IQ-UFRJ) posee una elevada proporción de profesoras en comparación con el promedio nacional del área. Sin embargo, se pusieron en evidencia varios fenómenos descritos en la literatura; entre ellos el efecto tijera y el techo de vidrio, ya que los hombres son mayoría entre los posdoctorados; dominan los cuatro primeros cargos de la carrera académica; son mayoría absoluta en los departamentos y reciben el doble de becas de productividad en investigación del Consejo Nacional de Desarrollo Científico y Tecnológico.

Résumé À ce jour, aucune étude sur l’identité de genre n’a été identifiée qui permettrait de distinguer une institution d’excellence dans le domaine de la chimie dans le contexte de la pandémie de covid-19 au Brésil. Bien qu’il existe un écart entre les sexes, l’Institut de chimie de l’Université fédérale de Rio de Janeiro (IQ-UFRJ) compte une proportion élevée d’enseignants par rapport à la moyenne nationale de la région. Cependant, plusieurs phénomènes décrits dans l’épistémologie liés à l’identité de genre ont été mis en évidence, parmi lesquels l’effet ciseaux et le plafond de verre, puisque les hommes sont la majorité des post-doctorants, dominent les quatre principaux postes de la carrière universitaire, constituent la majorité absolue départements et reçoivent le double du nombre de subventions de productivité de la recherche du Conseil national du développement scientifique et technologique.

RESUMO Objetivo Realizar uma análise crítica e comparativa das horas de instrução e distribuição semestral da Educação Alimentar e Nutricional nos cursos de graduação em nutrição. Além disso, analisar as principais diferenças entre disciplinas classificadas em Eixos Temáticos e em Áreas De Atuação Profissional de currículos de cursos de nutrição das Instituições de Ensino Superior brasileiras e portuguesas. Métodos Os currículos de quinze instituições brasileiras e onze portuguesas foram coletados, e o método Análise Documental foi usado para classificar as disciplinas de cada curso em Eixos Temáticos e em Áreas de Prática Profissional. Em seguida, foi feita uma análise estatística das horas de aula totais e proporcionais e do semestre de oferta, para verificar a diferença entre os países. As horas de instrução de Educação Alimentar e Nutricional e a distribuição semestral foram as variáveis de interesse. Resultados O eixo Educação Alimentar e Nutricional foi o segundo menor, com diferença estatisticamente significativa entre eixos (2,2% dos currículos; p<0,001). As Instituições de Ensino Superior brasileiras apresentaram maior carga horária absoluta para Educação Alimentar e Nutricional (p=0,018), Ciências Humanas e Sociais (p=0,003) e Saúde Pública (p<0,001), e maior dispersão e menor média ponderada relativa de localização do curso (p=0,004) para as disciplinas de Educação Alimentar e Nutricional. As Instituições de Ensino Superior portuguesas apresentaram maior carga horária absoluta e proporcional em Ciências Exatas (p<0.005; p=0,001 respectivamente) e maior proporcional em Ciências Biológicas e da Saúde (p<0.005). Conclusão Este estudo encontrou uma presença reduzida da área de Educação Alimentar e Nutricional na formação de nutricionistas em ambos os países.

ABSTRACT Objective To make a critical and comparative analysis of curricula of Brazilian and Portuguese higher education institutions in terms of clock hours and semester distribution of food and nutrition education in undergraduate nutrition programs, also assessing the main differences among courses classified into thematic axes and professional practice areas. Methods The curricula of fifteen Brazilian and eleven Portuguese nutrition programs were collected and classified into thematic axes and professional practice areas with the method of Document Analysis. Next, we performed statistical analysis regarding the total and proportional clock hours of instruction and their semester distribution to assess the differences between the two countries. The variables of interest were the hours of Food and Nutrition Education and their semester distribution. Results The Food and Nutrition Education axis was the second smallest one, with statistically significant differences among the axes (2.2% of curricula; p<0.001). Brazilian higher education institutions showed greater total clock hours of Food and Nutrition Education (p=0.018), Human and Social Sciences (p=0.003), Public Health (p<0.001), as well as a wider dispersion and lower relative weighted mean for the semester offering of courses (p=0.004) of Food and Nutrition Education courses. Portuguese higher education institutions showed greater total and proportional clock hours of instruction for Exact Sciences (p<0.005; p=0.001, respectively) and more proportional hours of Biologic and Health Sciences (p<0.001). Conclusion Our study found a reduced presence of the area of Food and Nutrition Education in the undergraduate training of nutritionists in both countries.

Resumo Nesta pesquisa analisamos o uso do gasto fiscal como um instrumento de política de consolidação orçamentária. Portugal esteve sujeito ao programa de assistência financeira (PAEF) articulado com o FMI, a Comissão Européia e o Banco Central Europeu entre 2010 e 2014. O objetivo é analisar se a evolução dos gastos fiscais nos quatro anos seguintes, após o término desse programa de assistência (2015 e 2018) manteve o mesmo padrão que se verificou no período de assistência financeira externa. Procuramos saber se a política de redução dos gastos fiscais, implementada nos anos em que o programa esteve em vigor (2010-2014), teve continuidade nos quatro anos seguintes. Comparamos esta evolução com a evolução dos gastos orçamentários diretos, com base em dois eixos principais: os gastos econômicos e os gastos sociais. Conclui-se que, no período 2014-2018, o aumento da receita pública por efeito da diminuição da despesa fiscal, não evoluiu de forma consistente. Em 2014-2018, os gastos públicos diretos não seguiram o mesmo padrão que nos anos anteriores de 2011-2014, dada a equivalência funcional dos dois tipos de gastos. A despesa fiscal desceu nos anos de 2011 e 2012, e subiu nos anos de 2012 e 2013. A despesa geral do Estado diminui até 2012, depois aumentou nos anos seguintes, mas num grau muito menor do que a despesa fiscal. Os dados evidenciam que entre 2010 e 2012, se verificou um decréscimo tanto na despesa fiscal (20%) quanto na despesa direta (11,6%) do Estado, tendência que se inverteu em 2013 com o crescimento de ambas (45,4% e 8,4%, respetivamente). Já no período 2014 a 2016 se verifica o crescimento da despesa fiscal (3,3%) e a diminuição da despesa direta. Para observar a relação entre o nível de consolidação fiscal, realizada entre os anos de 2010 a 2018 e o comportamento das receitas e despesas fiscais, foi realizado o teste de Scheffé às médias das variáveis Receita e Despesa Total, e Receita e Despesa Fiscal. Este teste permite-nos concluir estatisticamente que tanto as médias da receita e despesa como as médias das percentagens não são todas iguais, como são, efetivamente, todas diferentes entre os grupos analisados. Tendo em visa esclarecer se as diferenças na receita e despesa e nas respetivas percentagens são estatisticamente significativas ou se, ao invés, são meramente eventuais verificamos ainda, previamente, a sua aplicabilidade por intermédio dos pressupostos de normalidade e homocedasticidade de cada um dos conjuntos de dados, recorrendo ao teste ANOVA. O observamos que quer para os montantes de receita e despesa, quer para as percentagens, o p-valor observado no teste ANOVA foi igual a 0,000 (isto é, inferior a 0,050), implicando a rejeição das hipóteses nulas e a aceitação das hipóteses alternativas, segundo as quais os valores médios dos montantes de receita e despesa, e os valores médios das percentagens não são todos iguais. Concluímos que houve consolidação orçamentária, mas esta deve ter-se ficado a dever a outros fatores, tais como a conjuntura económica, já que não se verifica uma relação direta entre a receita, a despesa fiscal e a consolidação orçamentária em nenhum dos períodos estudados.

Abstract In this research, we analyse the use of fiscal expenditure as an instrument of fiscal consolidation policy. Portugal was subject to the financial assistance programme (PAEF) articulated with the IMF, the European Commission and the European Central Bank between 2010 and 2014. The objective is to analyse the evolution of fiscal expenditure in the following four years, after the end of that term programme, that is, between 2015-2018. The outcome is to know if the policy of reducing fiscal expenditure implemented in the years in which the programme was in force (2010-2014), continued into the following four years. We compared this evolution with the evolution of direct expenditure, based on two main axes: economic expenditure and social expenditure. The data collection technique is used through document research, and the data obtained was from information provided by national, European statistical authorities and secondary sources of information. It is concluded that, in the 2014-2018 period, the increase in public revenue, due to the decrease in tax expenditure, did not evolve consistently. In 2014-2018, direct public expenditure did not follow the same pattern as in the previous years of 2011-2014, given the functional equivalence of the two types of expenditure. Finally, to observe the relationship between the level of fiscal consolidation, carried out between the years 2010 and 2018, and the behaviour of tax revenue and expenditure, the Scheffé test was performed on the averages of the variables Total Revenue and Expenditure, and Tax Revenue and Expenditure. This was applied in order to observe if the averages of the variables are significantly relevant for the level of fiscal consolidation or if there are other variables, equally important, that were not taken into account in the study, but that had a preponderant role (such as the economic context). We have to statistically conclude that both the revenue and expenditure averages and the percentage averages are not all equal, as they are, in fact, all different between the groups analysed. In order to clarify if the differences in revenue and expenditure and in the respective percentages are statistically significant or if, on the contrary, they are merely eventual, we previously verified their applicability through the assumptions of normality and homoscedasticity of each of the data sets, using the ANOVA test (Fisher, 1918). We observed that for both the amounts of revenue and expenditure, as well as the percentages, the p-value observed in the ANOVA test was equal to 0.000 (i.e. less than 0.050), implying the rejection of the null hypotheses and the acceptance of the alternative hypotheses, according to which the average values of the amounts of revenue and expenditure, and the average values of the percentages are not all equal. The general conclusion is that there was budget consolidation, but this must have been due to other factors, such as the economic environment, since there is no direct relationship between revenue, fiscal expenditure and budget consolidation in any of the periods studied.

Nesta pesquisa, foram analisadas as estimativas sobre a relevância do jogo on-line, tomando-se como referência a União Europeia, já que lá a atividade de jogo on-line é permitida. Esses dados foram comparados com as estimativas para o Brasil, país que não permite o jogo on-line. Propõem-se alguns princípios sobre a regulamentação do jogo que podem servir para o caso brasileiro, tomando-se por base a experiência da regulamentação europeia e mundial.

Abstract Online gambling is a form of gambling. Its direct ban or lack of regulation leads to loss of revenue. These are used to support the social functions of the state. In this research we analyse the estimates about the relevance of online gambling, taking as a reference the European Union where online gambling activity is allowed. These data are compared with estimates for Brazil that does not allow online gambling. Some principles on game regulation are proposed, which can serve the Brazilian case, based on the experience of European and world regulation.

In this work, bio-oil (an organic matrix rich in oxygen functionalities) was used to efficiently dissolve and disperse Fe3+ which upon thermal treatment produced a carbon containing dispersed and encapsulated Fe oxide magnetic nanoparticles. These materials were prepared by dissolution of 8, 16 and 24 wt.% Fe3+ salt in bio-oil followed by treatment at 400, 450, 500 or 600 ºC in N2 atmosphere. X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning (SEM) and transmission electron microscopies (TEM), elemental analysis, thermogravimetric-mass spectrometry (TG-MS), potentiometric titration, Raman and Mössbauer spectroscopies showed that Fe3+ species in bio-oil is reduced to produce magnetic nanoparticles phases: magnetite Fe3O4 and maghemite γ-Fe2O3. At low temperatures, the iron phases were less protected, and the carbon matrix was more reactive, while in temperatures above 500 ºC, the iron phases were more stable, however, the carbon matrix was less reactive. Reaction of these magnetic carbon materials with concentrated H2SO4 produced surface sulfonic acidic sites (ca. 1 mmol g-1), especially for the materials obtained at 400 and 450 ºC. The materials were used as catalysts on esterification reaction of oleic acid with methanol at 100 ºC and conversions of 90% were reached, however, after 2 consecutive uses, the conversion decreased to 30%, being required more studies to improve the material stability.

On May 2019, the members of the Anthropocene Working Group completed a binding vote to affirm some of the key questions that have been agreed in 2016: the Anthropocene should be considered as a formal chronostratigraphic unit, defined by a Global Boundary Stratotype Section and Point (GSSP), using one of the stratigraphic signals around the mid-twentieth century of the Common Era. The fallout from nuclear weapons testing appears as the most suitable GSSP. In this article, the main anthropogenic markers are discussed as well as the sources or human-made radiation and the signature of nuclear weapons testing. The appearance of 239+240Pu in the early 1950s and the clear peak, in 1963, makes a good marker. High resolution archives include layers of sedimentary rocks, lacustrine and marine sediments and corals and polar ice cores. A coupled application of other radioactive isotopes, as 137Cs, 14C and 241Am, may be useful to categorize distinct fallout signatures. A site to define the Anthropocene (golden spike) would ideally be located between 30º and 60º north of the equator. Resumo O diferencial de desempenho entre estudantes de escolas militares e civis não pode ser atribuído somente ao efeito escola, uma vez que fatores como características familiares, acúmulo de conhecimento e o próprio processo de seleção estabelecido por escolas militares podem gerar um viés na performance. Este trabalho investiga se ainda persiste um efeito escola militar em modelos empíricos de proficiência a la Hanushek (2016), uma vez que esses fatores são controlados. Utilizou-se uma base de dados administrativos longitudinal para escolas públicas do Ceará, acompanhando alunos no 5º e no 9º ano, os quais foram selecionados pelo método de pareamento CEM (Coarsened Exact Matching) com relação ao desempenho no ano base. Verificou-se que a falta de controle para o viés de seleção e para desempenhos passados majora o efeito escola militar em uma vez e meia nos modelos tradicionais. Entretanto, mesmo controlando esses fatores, o efeito escola militar ainda é significante.

Abstract The performance differential between students from military and civilian schools cannot be attributed only to the school effect, since factors such as family characteristics, accumulation of knowledge and the selection process established by military schools can generate a bias in performance. This work investigates whether there is still a military school effect in empirical models of proficiency a la Hanushek (2016), once these factors are controlled. A longitudinal administrative database for public schools in Ceará was used, following students in fifth and ninth grades, who were selected by CEM (Coarsened Exact Matching) matching method related to performance in base year. It was found that the lack of control for selection bias and former performance increases the military school effect by one and a half times in traditional models. However, even controlling these factors, the military school effect is still significant.
