RESUMO: Em sistemas integrados de produção agropecuária, a sobressemeadura de pastagens anuais de verão sobre as lavouras de grãos, pode reduzir a escassez de forragem no outono sem alterar a produção de grãos. Este trabalho avaliou a influência do milheto (Pennisetum glaucum L.) e do capim-sudão (Sorghum Sudanese) sobressemeados na lavoura de soja (Glycine Max) ou semeadura em plantio direto após a colheita da soja sobre os aspectos produtivos da pastagem. O delineamento experimental foi em blocos casualizados com tratamentos em arranjo fatorial 2 × 2 (milheto ou capim-sudão, semeadura no estádio (R6) da lavoura de soja ou semeadura em sistema de plantio direto após a colheita da soja) em dois anos. A altura do pasto, estande de plantas, densidade de perfilhos e produção de forragem foram maiores no primeiro ano agrícola. A estratégia de sobressemeadura resultou em maior altura de pastagem e produção de forragem na primeira safra e maior utilização da pastagem nas duas safras. Na estratégia de plantio direto, as plantas ficaram mais elevadas no primeiro ano e com maior densidade de perfilhos no segundo ano agrícola. A altura do pasto, o período de utilização e a produção de forragem não diferiram entre as espécies forrageiras. O milheto apresentou estande de plantas mais elevado, enquanto o capim-sudão apresentou maior densidade de perfilhos. ABSTRACT: In integrated crop-livestock systems, overseeding annual summer pastures over grain crops can reduce forage shortages in autumn without altering grain production. This study evaluated the influence of pearl millet (Pennisetumglaucum L.) and sudangrass (Sorghum Sudanese) overseeded on a soybean (Glycine Max) crop or no-tillage seeding after soybean harvest on productive aspects of pasture. The increase in anthropogenic activity over time has led to an exponential increase in greenhouse gas emissions, especially CO2. Proftable technologies for CO2 capture and separation are conspicuous, and porous biochars derived from biomass waste can be a useful solution. Herein, we produced activated nitrogen-doped biochars for CO2 capture from corn husk waste, urea and K2CO3, named N-Bio-X (X = 600, 700, and 800 °C). Resumo Devido ao baixo custo e simplicidade operacional, a ultrassonografia tem sido utilizada para monitorar a espessura muscular em ambientes laboratoriais, clínicas de reabilitação e clubes desportivos. Porém, é necessário determinar a qualidade da medida para inferir se as possíveis modificações observadas são decorrentes do tratamento ou do erro da medida. Portanto, realizamos uma revisão sistemática para determinar a validade, confiabilidade e erro da medida da espessura muscular do quadríceps femoral obtida pela ultrassonografia em adultos saudáveis. Foi realizada busca nas bases de dados Pubmed, Scopus e Web of Science até abril de 2022. O processo de seleção dos estudos foi realizado por dois pesquisadores independentes, com a presença de um terceiro pesquisador em caso de divergências. Vinte e seis estudos foram elegíveis para a revisão, sendo 4 de validade, 4 apenas de confiabilidade e 18 de confiabilidade e erro de medida. Abstract Due to its low cost and operational simplicity, ultrasound has been used to monitor muscle thickness in laboratory environments, rehabilitation clinics, and sports clubs. However, it is necessary to determine the measurement's quality to infer whether the possible changes observed are derived from the treatment or the measurement error. Therefore, we performed a systematic review to determine the validity, reliability, and measurement error of quadriceps femoris muscle thickness obtained by ultrasound in healthy adults. A search was conducted in the Pubmed, Scopus, and Web of Science databases until April 2022. The study selection process was carried out by two independent researchers, with the presence of a third researcher in case of disagreements. Twenty-six studies were eligible for the review, being 4 of validity, 4 of reliability only, and 18 of reliability and measurement error. The intraclass correlation coefficient ranged from 0.60 to 0.99 in validity studies and from 0.44 to 0.99 in reliability studies. The typical error of measurement ranged from 0.01 to 0.47 cm, and the coefficient of variation was from 0.5 to 17.9%. Abstract Context In the elderly, weak lower limb muscles impair functional tasks' performance. Objective To evaluate the healthy elderly's ankle dorsiflexion and plantarflexion maximum torque and its variability in two sets of 5 RM isokinetics evaluation. Method 50 women (68.0 ± 4.6 years old) and 50 men (72.7 ± 8.5 years old) did two sets of ankle plantar flexor and dorsiflexor isokinetic tests at 30°/s. Peak torque, total work, and coefficient of variation were analyzed. Results Men did the strongest plantarflexion torque (p < 0.05) and dorsiflexion torque (p < 0.05); their highest peak torque occurred at set 2 (p < 0.05), while the largest plantarflexion torque variability (p < 0.05), dorsiflexion torque variability (p < 0.05), and the largest plantarflexion torque variability occurred at set 1 (p < 0.05). Men did the highest plantarflexion and dorsiflexion total work (p < 0.05) at set 2 (p < 0.05). Conclusion Older men are stronger than older women. The torque variability, in men, was higher during the first set, suggesting an adaptation to the isokinetics evaluation. Clinicians and researchers should consider that different muscles might need different numbers of sets and trials to measure their maximal muscle strength.

A partir de considerações reflexivas sobre a prática profissional e o cuidado ofertado, conclui-se que a teoria do reconhecimento pode servir como estrutura que amplia a compreensão de situações do contexto de saúde, especialmente aquelas em que os elementos da esfera de reconhecimento são suprimidos ou prejudicados. A translação da teoria para o campo do cuidado de saúde abre perspectivas interessantes para compreender o valor do direito, do amor, da solidariedade na saúde e de possíveis consequências de sua inobservância.

Abstract Based on Axel Honneth, this theoretical study describes elements of the theory of recognition and its interfaces with user autonomy in healthcare, describing how the spheres of rights, love, and solidarity intersect with autonomy. From reflections on professional practice and the care offered, one concludes that the theory of recognition can serve as a framework that expands the understanding of healthcare situations, especially those in which elements of recognition are suppressed or impaired. Applying the theory to the field of healthcare opens interesting perspectives for understanding the value of rights, love, and solidarity in healthcare and the possible consequences of their non-observance.

Con base en las consideraciones reflexivas sobre la práctica profesional y el cuidado ofrecido, se concluye que la teoría del reconocimiento puede servir como un marco que amplíe la comprensión de las situaciones en el contexto sanitario, especialmente aquellas en las que los elementos de la esfera del reconocimiento están suprimidos o perjudicados. Assim, agregamos valor a essa literatura ao analisar a aprendizagem interna em equipes e o papel do capital psicológico nesse processo. Este estudo tem como objetivo analisar o papel mediador da estrutura percebida da equipe na relação entre capital psicológico positivo e aprendizagem interna em equipes. Para tanto, um questionário foi aplicado a 480 estudantes universitários para testar essa relação, utilizando a metodologia de modelagem de equações estruturais. Os resultados confirmaram o papel mediador da estrutura percebida da equipe na relação entre capital psicológico e aprendizagem interna em equipes. Argumentamos que este trabalho reforça o papel do capital psicológico em contextos acadêmicos. Por outro lado, devido às rápidas mudanças verificadas atualmente na sociedade, os estudantes universitários, que são futuros funcionários, precisam desenvolver o capital psicológico, a fim de obter melhores resultados de aprendizagem.

ABSTRACT Whereas past research on internal learning has focused on evaluating how the observed learning rates affect collaborative interactions among the various actors, we extend this literature by analyzing internal learning in teams and the role of psychological capital in this process. This study aims to analyze the mediating role of the perceived team structure in the relationship between positive psychological capital and internal learning in teams. Therefore, a self-report questionnaire was applied to 480 college students to test this relationship, using structural equation modeling. The results confirmed the mediating role of the perceived team structure in the relationship between psychological capital and internal learning in teams. Our work underlines the role of psychological capital in academic settings. On the other hand, due to rapid changes in today’s society, university students who will be future employees need to cultivate psychological capital in order to achieve better learning outcomes.

RESUMEN La investigación previa sobre el aprendizaje interno se ha centrado en evaluar cómo las tasas de aprendizaje observadas afectan las interacciones colaborativas entre los diversos actores. Por lo tanto, agregamos valor a esta literatura al analizar el aprendizaje interno en equipos y el papel del capital psicológico en este proceso. Este estudio tiene como objetivo analizar el papel mediador de la estructura percibida del equipo en la relación entre el capital psicológico positivo y el aprendizaje interno en los equipos. Por lo tanto, se aplicó un cuestionario a 480 estudiantes universitarios para probar esta relación, utilizando la metodología de modelado de ecuaciones estructurales. Los resultados confirmaron el papel mediador de la estructura percibida del equipo en la relación entre el capital psicológico y el aprendizaje interno en los equipos. Sostenemos que este trabajo refuerza el papel del capital psicológico en contextos académicos. Por otro lado, debido a los rápidos cambios observados en la sociedad actual, los estudiantes universitarios que son futuros empleados necesitan desarrollar capital psicológico para obtener mejores resultados de aprendizaje.

Resumo A ultrassonografia panorâmica é uma alternativa válida para determinar as dimensões da musculatura estriada esquelética, entretanto alguns fatores podem influenciar a medida final. Objetivou-se determinar a confiabilidade e o erro da medida das variáveis da arquitetura do músculo vasto lateral através de marcações anatômicas internas, bem como comparar dois métodos de avaliação diferentes através da ultrassonografia panorâmica. Doze homens (idade: 24 ± 6 anos) participaram do estudo. As imagens foram obtidas através da ultrassonografia panorâmica do músculo vasto lateral. Foram realizadas as medidas da espessura muscular (EM), comprimento do fascículo (CF) e ângulo de penação do fascículo (AP) através do método que identifica marcações anatômicas internas. A EM também foi medida através de distâncias predeterminadas de 2 cm proximal, 6 cm proximal e 2 cm distal. A ANOVA de uma via com medidas repetidas não identificou diferença significativa para todas as variáveis mensuradas, o erro típico de medida em centímetros (cm) ou graus (º), o coeficiente de variação em percentual (%) e o coeficiente de correlação intraclasse foram respectivamente: EM = 0,07 cm, 2,93%, 0,964; CF = 0,31 cm, 2,89%, 0,947; AP = 0,92º; 4,08%; 0,942; EM 2 cm proximal = 0,10 cm, 3,77%, 0,910; EM 6 cm proximal = 0,27 cm, 9,66%, 0,576; EM 2 cm distal = 0,35 cm, 19,76%, 0,564. EM, CF e AP apresentaram alta confiabilidade e baixo erro de medida. As marcações anatômicas internas demonstraram ser mais confiáveis e apresentam menores erros de medida quando comparados ao método de distâncias predeterminadas.

Abstract Extended-field-of-view ultrasonography is a valid alternative to determine the dimensions of the skeletal striated muscle; however, some factors may influence the final measurement. The aim of this study was to determine the test-retest reliability and measurement error of vastus lateralis muscle architecture variables through internal anatomical landmarks and to compare three fixed determined points using extended-field-of-view ultrasonography. Twelve young (24 ± 6 years) adult university male students participated in the study. Images were obtained through extended-field-of-view ultrasonography of the vastus lateralis muscle. Measurements were made for muscle thickness (MT), fascicle length (FL), and fascicle pennation angle (FA) using a method that identifies internal anatomical landmarks. MT was also measured at predetermined distances of 2 cm proximal, 6 cm proximal, and 2 cm distal. One-way ANOVA with repeated measures did not identify any test-retest significant differences for all variables measured. Typical measurement error in centimeters (cm) or degrees (º), coefficient of variation in percentage (%) and intraclass correlation coefficient were MT = 0.07 cm, 2.93%, 0.964; FL = 0.31 cm, 2.89%, 0.947; FA = 0.92°, 4.08%, 0.942; MT 2 cm proximal = 0.10 cm, 3.77%, 0.910; MT 6 cm proximal = 0.27 cm, 9.66%, 0.576; MT 2 cm distal = 0.35 cm, 19.76%, 0.564. RESUMEN Introducción. La intensidad de pastoreo y la fertilización nitrogenada en sistemas integrados agricultura-ganadería (SIAG) constituyen los factores que influyen en la productividad de las pasturas y como consecuencia repercuten indirectamente sobre la producción animal. Objetivo. El objetivo de la investigación fue evaluar el efecto de la intensidad de pastoreo y la fertilización nitrogenada sobre la altura del ryegrass(Loliummultiflorum Lam. cv. ‘Winter Star’)en SIAG. Materiales y métodos. Se utilizó un diseño bloques completamente al azar con arreglo factorial 2 x 2 x 5, con 3 repeticiones. El primer factor fue intensidad de pastoreo con 2 niveles: alta altura (AA=25 cm) y baja altura (BA=10 cm). El segundo factor fertilización nitrogenada: con nitrógeno aplicado al pasto (NP) en el invierno y N aplicado en el cultivo de granos (NG) en el verano (frijol), ambas en dosis de 200 kg.ha-1 de N. El tercer factor fue el periodo de evaluación (5 periodos). Se utilizó ryegrass italiano. Resultados. Se observó un leve aumento de la altura y heterogeneidad del pasto en la medida que la planta se desarrolló entre el primer y quinto periodo, en todos los tratamientos. En el tratamiento AANP, se observó mayor homogeneidad del pasto y un porcentaje mayor de las alturas (entre 10 y 25 cm), sin embargo, una menor homogeneidad con los tratamientos BANG y BANP en los que se detectó una mayor área con alturas menores al límite crítico inferior (10 cm). Conclusión. Se concluyó que una menor intensidad de pastoreo y fertilización nitrogenada, ofrece una mayor altura de pasto ryegrassy una adecuada ganancia de peso de los animales en el SIAG.

ABSTRACT Introduction. Grazing intensity and nitrogen fertilization in integrated crop-livestock system (ICLS) are factors that influence pasture productivity and, consequently, impact on livestock production. Objective. The objective was to evaluate the effect of grazing intensity and nitrogen fertilization on grazing height of ryegrass (Lolium multiflorum Lam. cv. 'Winter Star'), in an integrated crop-livestock system (ICLS) Materials and methods. A completely randomized block design was used with a 2 x 2 x 5 factorial arrangement, with 3 replications. The first factor was grazing intensity with 2 levels: high height (HH = 25 cm) and low height (LH = 10 cm). The second factor was nitrogen fertilization with two levels: N (nitrogen) applied to the grass (NP) during the winter and N applied in the grain crop (NG) during the summer, both in doses of 200 kg.ha-1 of N. The third factor was the evaluation period (5 periods). Italian ryegrass was considered. Results. In the HHNP treatment, greater homogeneity of the grass and a higher percentage of heights (between 10 and 25 cm) were observed; however, a lower homogeneity with the treatments LHNG and LHNP in which a greater area was detected with heights lower than the lower critical limit (10 cm). Conclusion. It is concluded that a lower grazing intensity and higher nitrogen fertilization (HHNP) offers a greater height of ryegrass and an adequate weight gain in animals in an ICLS.

RESUMO O novo coronavírus, que causa a doença infecciosa denominada COVID-19 pela Organização Mundial de Saúde, foi notificado em dezembro, na China. As principais manifestações clínicas dos pacientes infectados são febre, tosse e dispneia. Esses pacientes têm propensão a desenvolver alterações cardíacas, miopatia difusa, diminuição da função pulmonar, diminuição da força muscular inspiratória e deterioração da capacidade funcional. Assim sendo, é esperado que os pacientes afetados pela COVID-19 sofram sequelas musculoesqueléticas em decorrência do processo inflamatório e perda de massa muscular causada pela imobilidade, que geram incapacidades motoras ainda não quantificáveis. Existe a necessidade de entender as implicações clínicas causadas pela COVID-19 para elaborar melhores estratégias de reabilitação para esses pacientes. O objetivo deste estudo foi realizar uma análise reflexiva no que tange ao impacto da COVID-19 nos sistemas imunológico, neuromuscular e musculoesquelético e no processo de reabilitação. Trata-se de uma análise reflexiva, desenvolvida no Laboratório do Estudo do Movimento do Instituto de Ortopedia e Traumatologia da Faculdade de Medicina da Universidade de São Paulo, SP, Brasil. Nesta análise, fizemos uma reflexão sobre os seguintes tópicos relacionados com a COVID-19: mecanismos imunológicos, impacto no sistemas neuromuscular e musculoesquelético e reabilitação dos pacientes. ABSTRACT The new coronavirus, which causes the infectious disease named COVID-19 by the World Health Organization (WHO), was notified in 2020 in China. The main clinical manifestations in infected patients are fever, cough and dyspnoea. These patients are prone to developing cardiac changes, diffuse myopathy, decreased pulmonary function, decreased inspiratory muscle strength, and a deterioration in functional capacity. Thus, it is expected that patients affected by COVID-19 will suffer musculoskeletal consequences as a result of the inflammatory process and loss of muscle mass caused by immobility, generating motor incapacities that are not yet quantifiable. It is important to understand the clinical implications caused by COVID-19, in order to have better rehabilitation strategies for these patients. The aim of this study was to conduct a reflective analysis of the impact of COVID-19 on the immune, neuromuscular and musculoskeletal systems, and its rehabilitation process. This is a reflexive analysis, developed in the Laboratory for the Study of Movement of the Institute of Orthopaedics’ and Traumatology, at the Universidade de São Paulo School of Medicine, SP, Brazil. In this analysis, we reflect on the following topics related to COVID-19: immunological mechanisms, impact on the neuromuscular and musculoskeletal systems, and the rehabilitation of patients. RESUMEN El nuevo coronavirus, que causa la enfermedad infecciosa llamada COVID-19 por la Organización Mundial de la Salud, fue notificado en diciembre en China. Las principales manifestaciones clínicas de los pacientes infectados son fiebre, tos y disnea. Esos pacientes son propensos a desarrollar cambios cardíacos, miopatía difusa, disminución de la función pulmonar, disminución de la fuerza muscular inspiratoria y deterioro de la capacidad funcional. Por lo tanto, se espera que los pacientes afectados por COVID-19 sufran secuelas musculoesqueléticas debido al proceso inflamatorio y pérdida de masa muscular causada por la inmovilidad, que generan discapacidades motoras aún no son cuantificables. Es necesario comprender las implicaciones clínicas causadas por COVID-19 para elaborar mejores estrategias de rehabilitación para estos pacientes. Es un análisis reflexivo, desarrollado en el Laboratorio del Estudio de Movimiento del Instituto de Ortopedia y Traumatología, Facultad de Medicina, Universidad de São Paulo, SP. En este análisis, reflexionamos sobre los siguientes temas relacionados con COVID-19: mecanismos inmunológicos, impacto en los sistemas neuromuscular y musculoesquelético y la rehabilitación de los pacientes. RESUMO: Uma forma viável de sistematização e personalização da intervenção delineada em Análise do Comportamento Aplicada (ABA), com estudantes com Transtorno do Espectro Autista (TEA), pode ser por meio de recursos computacionais. Assim sendo, este estudo teve como objetivo elaborar um ambiente digital denominado como mTEA para aplicação de programas de ensino por tentativas discretas, fundamentados na perspectiva comportamental, assim como avaliar o uso do mTEA, em relação à elaboração e à aplicação das atividades por duas profissionais com estudantes com TEA. Participaram duas profissionais e cinco crianças com TEA. O procedimento foi organizado da seguinte forma: desenvolvimento do sistema; na sequência, as duas profissionais elaboraram e aplicaram as atividades com cinco estudantes com TEA e responderam a um questionário sobre o uso do mTEA. Os resultados foram agrupados em relação ao desempenho dos estudantes com TEA nas atividades e ao uso do sistema pelas profissionais. Os resultados identificaram que o mTEA atingiu o objetivo proposto para personalizar as atividades propostas em cada currículo de ensino de cada estudante, apesar de ainda carecer de melhorias a serem implantadas futuramente.

ABSTRACT: A viable way to systematize and customize the intervention in Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) with students with Autistic Spectrum Disorder (ASD) may be through computational resources. Thus, the objective of this study was to prepare a digital environment called mTEA for application of behavioral teaching programs by discrete trial, based on the behavioral perspective, as well as to evaluate the use of mTEA, in relation to the elaboration and application of the activities conducted by two professionals with students with ASD. The participants were two professionals and five students with ASD. The procedure was organized as follows: development of the system; then, the two professionals elaborated and applied the activities with five students with ASD and answered a questionnaire about the use of mTEA. The results were analyzed in relation to the performance of students with ASD in the activities and to the use of the system by the professionals. The results identified that mTEA reached the objective to customize the activities in each student’s teaching curriculum, although it still lacks improvements to be implemented in the future.

RESUMO: O objetivo deste trabalho foi identificar alturas de manejo para pastos de papuã sob lotação contínua em sistemas de integração lavoura-pecuária (ILP). Para tanto, doze pastos foram cultivados em uma área de ILP e mantidos em 10, 20, 30 ou 40 cm por meio de lotação contínua com caprinos. As seguintes variáveis foram analisadas: massa; taxa de acúmulo e oferta de forragem e de folhas; relação lâmina:colmo; composição química de amostras de simulação de pastejo; carga animal; ganho médio diário e produção animal por área. Os dados foram submetidos a análises de regressão e correlação. A significância adotada foi de 5% (P≤0,05). Os principais resultados foram: i) houve um aumento linear na massa de forragem e folhas com o aumento da altura de manejo e pastos com mais de 20 cm já apresentavam a quantidade mínima recomendada para cobertura de solo em ILP ii) o desempenho animal atingiu um platô assintótico nos pastos manejados entre 30-40 cm e foi altamente correlacionado com a altura de manejo e a disponibilidade de forragem (massa e oferta). Pastos de Papuã manejados sob lotação contínua em ILP devem ser mantidos entre 30-40 cm para favorecer a produção de biomassa de cobertura e o desempenho animal.

ABSTRACT: The aim of this experiment was to identify grazing height targets for Alexandergrass pastures under continuous stocking in integrated crop-livestock system (ICLS). For this purpose, twelve pastures were cultivated into an ICLS area, and maintained at 10, 20, 30, or 40 cm using grazing goats. The following variables were analyzed: leaf and herbage mass, accumulation rate, and allowance; leaf:stem ratio; chemical composition of hand-plucked samples; stocking rate; average daily gain and gain per area. The data were submitted to regression and correlation analysis. Significance was set at 5% (P≤0.05). The main results were: i) herbage and leaf lamina mass increased linearly with grazing height, and pastures maintained at 20 cm already presented the minimum amount recommended for soil cover in ICLS; ii) animal performance achieved an upper asymptotic plateau in pastures maintained around 30-40 cm and it was highly correlated with both grazing height and forage availability (mass and allowance). Alexandergrass pastures under continuous stocking in ICLS should be maintained between 30-40 cm to improve both cover crop biomass and animal performance.

RESUMO: Objetivou-se avaliar alguns padrões físico-quimicos do leite cru refrigerado em relação ao atendimento aos padrões de qualidade brasileiros em pequenas propriedades da Região Sul do Brasil. O teor de gordura, proteína bruta (PB), sólidos totais (ST), contagem de células somáticas (CCS) e contagem total em placas (CTP) do leite cru refrigerado de 78 pequenas propriedades foram analisadas mensalmente entre outubro de 2014 e fevereiro de 2017. Verificou-se que 96% das amostras atenderam às regulamentações brasileiras para teor de gordura, 87% para PB e 91% para ST. Os valores médios de CTP e CCS foram superiores aos limites máximos estabelecidos pela regulamentação brasileira. Pequenas propriedades da Região Sul do Brasil produzem leite com adequado padrão para os principais indicadores químicos. No entanto, existe uma lacuna importante no cumprimento das práticas higiênico-sanitárias, levando a altos níveis de leite cru refrigerado que não atendem os limites da regulamentação brasileira.

ABSTRACT: This study aimed to evaluates some physical chemical aspects of chilled raw milk that meet Brazilian quality standards in smallholder farms from southern Region of Brazil. The fat content, crude protein (CP), total solids (TS), somatic cell count (SCC), and total plate count (TPC) of the chilled raw milk from 78 smallholder farms was analyzed between Oct 2014 and Feb 2017. It was found that 96% of the samples met the Brazilian regulations for fat content, 87% for CP, and 91% for TS. The mean values of TPC and SCC were higher than the maximum limits established by Brazilian regulations. Smallholder farms from Southern Region of Brazil produce milk with an adequate standard for the main chemical indicators. However, there is an important gap in compliance with hygienic-sanitary practices, leading to high levels of chilled raw milk that does not meet the limits of Brazilian regulations.

ABSTRACT Studies in the Amazon indicate a wide diversity of rhizobia with the ability for biological nitrogen fixation (BNF), which could expand the number of strains approved for cowpea. Thus, the aim of this field study was to evaluate the agronomic performance in cowpea of the several strains isolated from the soils of the Brazilian states Acre and Rondônia, and to compare them withstrains approved by the Ministry of Agriculture (MAPA) and withnon-inoculated controls (without and with mineral nitrogen fertilizer). The inoculants performed well. Though less effective than the other strains, the UFLA 03-36 strain also was prominent with respect to grain yield. Because of the positive response of the UFLA 03-129 strain, which led to yield increases greater than the obtained from the control without inoculation plus mineral-N, it can be recommended as an inoculum for cowpea. Further investigations should be carried out to obtain MAPA’s approval for their use. Other experiments involving this strain and several cultivars are being carried out on other types of soil and environmental conditions of the state of Minas Gerais.

Resumo O objetivo deste estudo foi descrever a estrutura do dossel e o comportamento ingestivo de caprinos em pastos de papuã manejados sob lotação contínua. Os tratamentos corresponderam a quatro alturas de manejo (10, 20, 30 e 40 cm) mantidas através de taxa de lotação variável. As variáveis analisadas foram: composição morfológica, massa e densidade dos componentes; comprimento de lâminas foliares; valor nutritivo por simulação de pastejo; tempos de pastejo, ruminação e atividades complementares. Os dados foram submetidos à análise de variância e teste de contrastes de polinômios ortogonais. Os principais resultados foram: i) com o aumento da altura de manejo, houve um aumento da massa (total e dos componentes morfológicos) e uma inversão na composição morfológica (redução na proporção de lâminas foliares e aumento na de colmos + material morto); ii) o comprimento de lâminas foliares aumentou com a altura de manejo; iii) os animais dedicaram mais tempo ao pastejo com a redução da altura de manejo, embora aparentemente tenham abdicado do pastejo no tratamento 10 cm ao final do experimento. Baseado nos dados de estrutura do dossel e comportamento ingestivo, concluiu-se que pastos de papuã sob lotação contínua devem ser manejados próximos de 40 cm. As razões são discutidas ao longo do artigo.

Abstract The aim of this trial was to describe the canopy structure and grazing behavior of goats in Alexandergrass swards under continuous stocking. The treatments corresponded to four sward canopy heights (10, 20, 30, and 40 cm) maintained by variable stocking density. The following variables were accessed: morphological composition; nutritive value by hand plucking; mass and density of morphological components; leaf lamina length; Time spent grazing, ruminating, and idling. The data were submitted to analysis of variance and polynomial orthogonal contrasts. The main results were: i) following the sward canopy height increments, there was an increment in forage mass (and its morphological components), as well as an inversion in morphological compositions (leaf proportion reduction and stem + dead material increment); ii) leaf lamina length increased with grazing height increments; iii) time spent grazing was increased following sward canopy height reduction, although animals apparently abdicated to graze in 10 cm treatment at the final of the experiment. Based on sward canopy structure and grazing behavior, we concluded that Alexandergrass under continuous stocking should be managed around 40 cm. Reason are discussed throughout the manuscript.
