Abstract Introduction: Sticholecitha serpentis is a poorly studied parasite of the snakes’ esophagus, with an unclear taxonomy. Currently, there are few records of S. serpentis in snakes in Brazil. Although it has been recorded in snakes of the family Viperidae, it has not yet been reported in Bothrops atrox. Objectives: To present new morphological characters, as well as ecological and parasitic relationships of S. serpentis with B. atrox. Methods: The samples were obtained in a dryland area in the Tapajós National Forest, Pará State, Brazil. Ten specimens of B. atrox were examined manually with the aid of tweezers, and three were positive for trematodes identified as S. serpentis in the oral cavity. Results: We provide scanning electron microscopy images, with detailed images of the S. serpentis tegument and its spines, as well as details of the dorsal keel using light microscopy methods. Moreover, we report the first record of S. serpentis parasitizing an Amazonian viperid, with infection frequency data of 30 %. Conclusion: We emphasize that the new morphological data presented in this manuscript provide additional information to facilitate the identification of this trematode in future studies.

Abstract The intense growth of Brazilian cities is remarkable, characterized by peripheralization and socio-spatial inequalities. However, studies that focus on the temporal dimension to understand spatial segregation are still scarce. This paper aims to understand the role played by commuting time in explaining the process of spatial segregation in the São Paulo metropolis. Its methodology is based on statistical data obtained from the weighting areas of the Demographic Census sample, by means of the variable usual commuting time, combined with other socioeconomic variables of income and race. This research contributes to the understanding of spatio-temporal segregation and shows that commuting time unites the poorest and black individuals, separating them from the richest and white individuals in the São Paulo metropolis. remarkable sociospatial socio inequalities However scarce metropolis sample race spatiotemporal spatio

Abstract The human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) is one of the sexually transmitted infections with the greatest impact on the patient's life. Early diagnosis is essential to promptly initiate antiretroviral therapy and avoid the disease’s progression. We present the case of a 60-year-old woman with a three-month history of epigastric pain, ageusia and weight loss of 9%. She performed blood tests, upper and lower digestive endoscopy, and chest X-ray, which revealed a large hiatal hernia and mild lymphopenia. A month later, she developed dyspnea, temporospatial confusion, and a change in speech and went to the emergency department where she was diagnosed with HIV Infection. During hospitalization, further tests revealed a Pneumocystis jirovecci infection and the presence of primary lymphoma of the central nervous system, both acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS)-defining diseases. Wi this case we aim to alert for the importance of HIV diagnosis in patients with constitutional symptoms and its screening not only in at-high-risk populations but also, at least once a lifetime, in adults aged between 18 and 64 without risk factors.

Caves are ecosystems and natural heritage sites with magnificent biological diversity, from microorganisms to animals, despite their selective environment for development and survival. Until now, studies on cave microbiomes have included taxonomic classification through metagenomics analysis, demonstrating microbiological heterogeneity mainly composed of prokaryotic organisms or bacteria species. The generally oligotrophic environment, with limited energy input and dark zone, is the main feature differentiating the cave microorganisms from the other microbiomes and resulting in a unique habitat, which has unexplored regard to biology and chemical diversity. Multi-omics integration is a key strategy for scanning and integrating the macro and micromolecular universe, providing a better comprehension of processes and answers of the microbiome in natural cavities. Here, we highlight the strategies employed to study the cave microbiome, from the microbial genomes to their ability to secondary metabolites production, and also the multi-omics integration to explore the chemical and biological diversity in caves. animals survival now analysis species zone habitat Multiomics Multi omics universe cavities Here production multiomics multi caves

ABSTRACT The limited temporal completeness and taxonomic accuracy of species lists, made available in a traditional manner in scientific publications, has always represented a problem. These lists are invariably limited to a few taxonomic groups and do not represent up-to-date knowledge of all species and classifications. In this context, the Brazilian megadiverse fauna is no exception, and the Catálogo Taxonômico da Fauna do Brasil (CTFB) (http://fauna.jbrj.gov.br/), made public in 2015, represents a database on biodiversity anchored on a list of valid and expertly recognized scientific names of animals in Brazil. The CTFB is updated in near real time by a team of more than 800 specialists. By January 1, 2024, the CTFB compiled 133,691 nominal species, with 125,138 that were considered valid. Most of the valid species were arthropods (82.3%, with more than 102,000 species) and chordates (7.69%, with over 11,000 species). These taxa were followed by a cluster composed of Mollusca (3,567 species), Platyhelminthes (2,292 species), Annelida (1,833 species), and Nematoda (1,447 species). All remaining groups had less than 1,000 species reported in Brazil, with Cnidaria (831 species), Porifera (628 species), Rotifera (606 species), and Bryozoa (520 species) representing those with more than 500 species. Analysis of the CTFB database can facilitate and direct efforts towards the discovery of new species in Brazil, but it is also fundamental in providing the best available list of valid nominal species to users, including those in science, health, conservation efforts, and any initiative involving animals. The importance of the CTFB is evidenced by the elevated number of citations in the scientific literature in diverse areas of biology, law, anthropology, education, forensic science, and veterinary science, among others. publications problem uptodate up date classifications context exception (CTFB http//fauna.jbrj.gov.br/, httpfaunajbrjgovbr http //fauna.jbrj.gov.br/ , jbrj gov br (http://fauna.jbrj.gov.br/) 2015 Brazil 80 specialists 1 2024 133691 133 691 133,69 125138 125 138 125,13 82.3%, 823 82 3 (82.3% 102000 102 000 102,00 7.69%, 769 7 69 (7.69% 11000 11 11,00 . 3,567 3567 567 (3,56 2,292 2292 2 292 (2,29 1,833 1833 833 (1,83 1,447 1447 447 (1,44 1000 1,00 831 (83 628 (62 606 (60 520 (52 50 users science health biology law anthropology education others http//fauna.jbrj.gov.br/ faunajbrjgovbr //fauna.jbrj.gov.br (http://fauna.jbrj.gov.br/ 201 8 202 13369 13 133,6 12513 12 125,1 82.3% (82.3 10200 10 00 102,0 7.69% 76 6 (7.69 1100 11,0 3,56 356 56 (3,5 2,29 229 29 (2,2 1,83 183 83 (1,8 1,44 144 44 (1,4 100 1,0 (8 62 (6 60 52 (5 5 http//fauna.jbrj.gov.br (http://fauna.jbrj.gov.br 20 1336 133, 1251 125, 82.3 (82. 1020 0 102, 7.69 (7.6 110 11, 3,5 35 (3, 2,2 22 (2, 1,8 18 (1, 1,4 14 4 ( 82. ABSTRACT Objective: this study investigates the use of integrated social media (SM) technologies to support knowledge-sharing (KS) processes in information technology (IT) projects. Its main objective is to develop a framework to assist project managers in solving problems such as selecting or replacing social media tools, developing KS processes, and creating guidelines. Methods: the affordance theory was the theoretical lens adopted to explore the relationship between using technology (SM) and organizational change processes (KS). The design science research (DSR) was adopted as a prescriptive method. The work adds to the body of knowledge and provides a support tool designed and validated specifically for practitioners and researchers. A literature review served as the basis for creating the framework, and 18 interviews with IT project members helped assess and refine it. Results: the resulting framework consists of three components based on affordance perception, materialization, and effect. It is presented from both component and integrative complementary views and has the potential to contribute to solving problems identified in the literature and in practice. Conclusions: the successful application of the framework in IT projects can promote the benefits of KS, potentially increasing management effectiveness and positively influencing outcomes. ABSTRACT The objective of this research was to evaluate the biochemical and physiological quality of peanut cultivar seeds under periods of imbibition and drying. A completely randomized statistical design was adopted, in factorial scheme, with four replications. The three peanut cultivars were: BR1, BRS 151-L7, and IAC 505. The imbibition and drying periods were: 0, 12, 24, 36 and 48 hours. The seeds were imbibition with the aid of germitest paper and distilled water, then dried on a metal screen in a plastic box with silica, according to the periods studied. Physiological variables were evaluated (percentage of germination, normal seedlings, abnormal seedlings in the first count and abnormal seedlings in the final count, accelerated aging, seedling length, electrical conductivity, speed index, and average germination time) and biochemical variables (sugar concentration total, reducing sugars, hydrogen peroxide, total superoxide dismutase proteins, and total proteins). The desiccation tolerance of peanut seeds is reduced as the period of water absorption followed by drying increases. Seeds of cultivar IAC 505 have greater tolerance to imbibition and subsequent desiccation compared to seeds of BR1 and BRS 151-L7. adopted scheme replications BR 151L7, 151L7 L 151 L7, L7 151-L7 0 12 24 3 4 hours silica studied percentage aging length conductivity index time sugar sugars peroxide proteins proteins. . proteins) increases 50 151L7. ABSTRACT Maize landraces diversity is important for many smallholder and indigenous populations. Gene flow constitutes a threat to the genetic conservation of several locally adapted maize landraces and, risk management depends on monitoring transgenic occurrence in non-GM maize. This study evaluated the occurrence of exogenous proteins from GM-maize in maize landraces and teosinte cultivated in the Alto Jequitinhonha region, State of Minas Gerais. Gene flow from GM maize to non-transgenic varieties was evaluated in eight maize groups and one teosinte variety. A transgenic maize variety was used as a positive control. Proteins Cry1F and Cry2Ab2 were monitored using the Protein Detection Assay kit (Envirologix QuickStix® kit protocols for detecting Cry1F and Cry2Ab2 proteins). Transgenic proteins were not detected in the leaves of landraces and teosinte cultivated in the Alto Jequitinhonha region. populations nonGM non GMmaize region Gerais nontransgenic control CryF Cry F CryAb Ab Cry2Ab Envirologix QuickStix proteins. . proteins)

Abstract Since the open-pit precedence-constrained production scheduling problem is an NP-hard problem, solving it is always a challenging task, especially from a long-term perspective because a mineral deposit containing millions of blocks would require several million precedence arcs as constraints, making the solution time grow exponentially and making a direct approach unfeasible. Therefore, different strategies have been employed since the 1960s to reduce the size of this problem, such as determining the ultimate pit limit, subdividing it into phases, segmenting the production scheduling problem into long-, mid-, and short-term plans, as well as aggregating blocks into clusters, thus significantly reducing the number of precedence arcs. Different modeling and clustering strategies have already been employed in an attempt to reduce the size of the mine sequencing problem, such as layer modeling, re-blocking, bench-phase clustering, or polygon (mining cut) clustering based on a similarity function. The mining cut clustering problem has been solved lately by machine learning and heuristics techniques, and this approach can also introduce operational constraints to the mine sequencing problem, such as equipment size, minimum pit width, and preferential mining direction. In this study, we propose a mining cut clustering model based on Mixed Integer Linear Programming (MILP). Then we solve it by an exact approach and by Constraint Programming (CP), analyzing the strengths and weaknesses of the Constraint Optimization Problem (COP) and Constraint Satisfaction Problem (CSP) techniques. Numerical experiments were carried out on the Bench 15 of the Newmanl dataset, demonstrating the superiority of the COP approach. openpit open precedenceconstrained constrained NPhard NP hard task longterm long term unfeasible Therefore s limit phases long, , long- mid, mid mid- shortterm short plans clusters reblocking, reblocking re blocking, blocking re-blocking benchphase bench phase function techniques width direction study MILP. Abstract A male of Pteronura brasiliensis (Carnivora: Mustelidae) was found dead on the banks of the Rio Negro, in the Pantanal wetlands of Mato Grosso do Sul state, Aquidauana municipality. Two ticks found attached to its skin were morphologically identified as a second-instar nymph of Ornithodoros rostratus (Argasidae) and a male of Amblyomma sculptum (Ixodidae). In order to complement the morphological identification, these tick specimens were subjected to DNA extraction, and tested using PCR assays to confirm the molecular identity the specimens. Also, the tick DNA samples were tested and were negative in the PCR assays for all the pathogens tested. We also examined 30 batches, consisting of 174 individuals of O. rostratus deposited in the Acari Collection of the Butantan Institute, and we found material from four Brazilian states, including one batch containing 2 males and 2 females from Aquidauana, of Mato Grosso do Sul state, collected from the soil. This was therefore the first record of O. rostratus parasitizing P. brasiliensis and the first locality record (Aquidauana). Likewise, A. sculptum is commonly found in the Pantanal and is reported here for the second time parasitizing the giant otter, which is a host little studied regarding the ectoparasites. ABSTRACT The objective of this research was to evaluate leaf temperature, and watermelon yield components under wetted area percentages (PW) in irrigation located in the Agreste region of Northeastern Brazil. Two experiments were carried out in 2018 and 2019. The adopted statistical design was randomized blocks, with six replications and four treatments, in 2018: P1 = 13%, P2 = 14%, P3 = 19%, and P4 = 22%, in 2019: P5 = 12%, P6 = 15%, P7 = 16%, and P8 = 21% of PW. The meteorological variables analyzed were: air temperature (Ta) and rain. The experimental evaluations consisted of measuring the temperature of the plant’s vegetative canopy, tensiometry, mass, and BRIX. Air temperature was not a limiting factor for watermelon growth and development. The average was 195.88 mm, and the average leaf temperature of watermelon is 29.5 °C, a value lower than Ta. There was no statistically significant difference for fruit mass and BRIX, where the overall mean was 10.82 and 10.46 kg, respectively. Therefore, it is feasible to irrigate watermelon with wetted area percentages ranging from 12 to 22%, in localized irrigation systems, without generating physiological damage and reducing agricultural productivity and fruit quality. Juvenile hormone (JH III) is an important example of a chemical signaling derived from the terpene biosynthetic pathway. Because of its impact on many species’ reproductive and developmental processes, analytical approaches must be developed to accurately identify and measure it in biological samples. In this technical note, we explored the gas-phase dissociative behavior of JH III using tandem mass spectrometry combined with electrospray ionization to provide diagnostic fragment-ions for quantitative purposes. pathway species processes samples note gasphase gas phase fragmentions fragment ions purposes

Abstract: Previous studies suggested that goodwill impairment is associated with an increase in the cost of equity, however little attention has been paid to the influence of institutional environments on this association. In this study, we investigated this association in different institutional settings. Using Capital IQ, we collected data from financial statements released between 2010 and 2019 from 18,905 companies based in 42 countries. These countries were classified into two groups: those with a high level of enforcement and audit and those with a low level of enforcement and audit. An association model was developed between the cost of equity and goodwill impairment, tested using the panel data. Regression coefficients were estimated individually for each group and compared using the Wald test. Based on the results, we concluded that the increase in the cost of equity associated with goodwill impairment is observed more intensely in countries with low levels of enforcement and auditing. This reveals that the application of IAS 36 in different environments can entail different economic consequences, which need to be taken into account when discussing the quality of standards. Abstract Patients with peripheral artery disease and generalized atherosclerosis are at high risk of cardiovascular and limb complications, affecting both quality of life and longevity. Lower limb atherosclerotic disease is associated with high cardiovascular morbidity and mortality and adequate management is founded on treatments involving patient-dependent factors, such as lifestyle changes, and physician-dependent factors, such as clinical treatment, endovascular treatment, or conventional surgery. Medical management of peripheral artery disease is multifaceted, and its most important elements are reduction of cholesterol level, antithrombotic therapy, control of arterial blood pressure, control of diabetes, and smoking cessation. Adhesion to this regime can reduce complications related to the limbs, such as chronic limb-threatening ischemia, that can result in amputation, and the systemic complications of atherosclerosis, such as stroke and myocardial infarction. longevity patientdependent patient dependent factors changes physiciandependent physician treatment surgery multifaceted level therapy pressure diabetes cessation limbs limbthreatening threatening ischemia amputation infarction
