Abstract This paper discusses the through-wall detection of targets behind walls using an ultra-wideband radar operating in the 2 to 15 GHz frequency range. Tests were conducted to verify its use with static and moving targets. Two real-world cases were tested: a laboratory with students sitting on benches, and an adult person standing behind a door. A fast method, based on the standard deviation, was used to transform the time-domain data matrix into a simpler waveform. Abstract This paper introduces the Characteristic Mode Analysis in the computation of electromagnetic resonant modes in conducting bodies. Canonical cases (thin wire and a rectangular plate) are analyzed, along with real-world complex structures, a mobile phone chassis and an unmanned aerial vehicle. Given the analogy to other areas, such as modal analysis in Differential Equations, this method can be another tool when teaching Electromagnetic Radiation and antenna related topics.

Neste trabalho, foram avaliados os impactos na composição mineralógica e nas propriedades físico-químicas de duas categorias representativas de solos brasileiros - um vertissolo (V) e um argissolo (P) - após tratamento com reagente de Fenton. Os argilominerais presentes no V, rico em argilas expansivas, sofreram degradação após o tratamento pelo reagente de Fenton. No solo P, rico em caulinita, não foi observada nenhuma alteração significativa na mineralogia de sua fração argila após este tratamento. A capacidade de troca catiônica (CTC) de V foi drasticamente diminuída, o que em longo prazo poderá causar a infertilidade do solo por causa da redução da sua capacidade de retenção de água e nutrientes.

In this work, the impacts on the mineralogical composition and on the physico-chemical properties of two representative categories of Brazilian soils - a vertisol (V) and a kandiudult (P) - after treatment with Fenton reagent were studied. The clay minerals presented in the V (rich in 2:1 expansive clay) have been degraded with this reagent application. In the other, P, rich in kaolinite, there was no significant change in its clay mineralogy after this treatment. Furthermore, the cation exchange capacity (CEC) of V was dramatically diminished and consequently can cause the soil infertility by the reduction of water and nutrients retention.
