Resumo Trata-se de examinar a questão das perspectivas e possibilidades de vida que a educação pode oferecer aos jovens de hoje, que vivem num mundo fragmentado em que as desilusões e as decepções podem se tornar, a todo momento, a tônica da existência. O caminho para uma reintegração ética e política passa pela formação da consciência crítica que venha a contestar o presente e a resistir a um futuro determinado pela alienação. A filosofia tem como levar a um enfrentamento dos riscos sociais e históricos, de modo a que os indivíduos não submerjam na decomposição existencial, ética e política que nos ameaça.

Abstract We examine the prospects and possibilities of the life that education can offer to today’s young people, who live in a fragmented world where disappointments and unrealized hopes can at any moment become the key issue of existence. The path toward their ethical and political reintegration involves the development of a critical awareness that may challenge the present and resist a future determined by alienation. Philosophy provides the means to confront societal and historical risks, preventing individuals from submerging in the existential, ethical and political decomposition that threatens us.

O TEXTO pretende discutir aspectos da inserção sócio-histórica e política da universidade nos vários contextos históricos que marcaram a vida dessa instituição, com o objetivo de indicar que uma das características constitutivas da instituição universitária, e da forma como se construiu a sua tradição, foi estar sempre simultaneamente dentro e fora de seu tempo. Dentro, pelo aspecto institucional, no início à sombra da Igreja, depois do Estado, e, nos dias de hoje, subordinada ao mercado. Fora, pelo teor crítico que, em intensidades diferentes, pautou a atuação universitária, o que historicamente a impediu de se constituir como mero produto de seu tempo ou reflexo da hegemonia eclesial ou estatal. A questão atual, para a universidade brasileira em particular, é se ela conseguirá, ainda que parcialmente, manter-se independente das pressões de um mercantilismo onipresente, nos indivíduos e na sociedade.

THE TEXT intends to discuss some relevant views of the relation between university, as institution, and the social, historical and political context. On intend to demonstrate that university has always been affected by some kind of ambiguty of his historic position, nor completely inside, nor completely out of her historical time. This double position means that Church or State, as traditional powers, never get complete control, and university, in spite of institutional caracter, never did'nt resignate her difference or critic aproach, as we may note since the Middle Ages. The question we must actually discuss concerns the possibility of the same attitude in face of Market an his omnipresent power in our time.

O presente texto procura acompanhar alguns aspectos da reconstrução sartreana das relações entre indivíduo e história, tentando mostrar que a fenomenologia e o materialismo dialético comparecem nessa proposta de conhecimento e que é a convergência das duas perspectivas que permite, contemplando adequadamente a universalidade e a singularidade, descrever e compreender dialeticamente o modo histórico de produção da identidade individual.

The paper intends to explain some views of the sartrian reconstruction of relations between individual and history, in order to understand how phenomenology and dialectical materialism go together in a certain conception of knowledge, converging to describe and understand the dialectical production of historical identity, by an appropriate vision of the relations between universality an singularity.

A questão que se tenta construir neste texto é a da convergência entre filosofia, história da filosofia e formação. Tal pergunta se desdobra primeiramente na elucidação das relações entre história e historicidade da filosofia, que remonta à constatação óbvia, mas nem sempre lembrada, de que o fundamento da história da filosofia é o caráter histórico da própria filosofia. A idéia de formação está presente em toda filosofia, já que, antes de ser sistema ou concepção cristalizada da realidade, cada filosofia é sempre um exercício de síntese das possibilidades e das circunstâncias da vida humana, inclusive sob o aspecto do trabalho da reflexão. Nesse sentido, o texto remete a algumas idéias de Bergson acerca de formação e processo, e à noção sartriana de práxis como formação e superação contínua dos momentos estruturais do curso da história. Assim compreendida, a relação entre história da filosofia e filosofia contém inevitavelmente o compromisso com a atualidade, isto é, com a formação atual do pensamento.

The text intends to examine the question about the relationship between history of philosophy, philosophy and formation as a liberation of conscience. The starting point is an obvious idea, thought not always remembered: history of philosophy founds its legitimation on philosophy as historical cultural fact. The idea of formation is implicated in every system, which, before being a specific conception of reality, is a synthesis of real conditions that have influenced all aspects of human life, includingly reflexive work. Some of Bergson's and Sartre's ideas about process, form and praxis can help us to elucidate the engagement in the present included in the relationship between philosophy and history of philosophy.

O texto procura mostrar, por via de um comentário das posições de Adorno acerca das finalidades da educação, que a história da modernidade, vista como processo de constituição da hegemonia da razão instrumental, destituiu a educação de uma característica essencial, a formação da consciência para a liberdade, aspecto que no entanto se encontra implicado na relação entre experiência, verdade e felicidade, constitutiva do ideal humanista de sabedoria e de emancipação. O progresso civilizatório pode ser visto como a perda progressiva do ideal de formação, substituído pelos procedimentos de racionalização adaptativa do indivíduo às condições de alienação próprias do mundo administrado. Na impossibilidade de reinstauração das condições objetivas favoráveis à experiência educacional formadora, resta, na perspectiva de uma educação crítica, a tentativa de se opor à instrumentalização da subjetividade por via de um esforço de recuperação da negatividade como contraponto à adesão cega ao presente histórico.

The text aims to show, based on a commentary of Adorno's points of view on the goals of education, that the history of modernity, seen as process for the constitution of the hegemony of instrumental reason, has removed an essencial feature from education: the formation of a consciousness for freedom, an aspect that is involved in the relationship between experience, truth and happiness, which constitute the humanist ideal of knowledge and emancipation. Civilizing progress can be seen as a progressive loss of the ideal of formation, substituted by the procedures of adaptive rationalization of the individual to the alienating conditions that are peculiar to the managed world. In the event of an impossibility to reinstall the favourable conditions to the cultivating education experience, we are left, from a critical education perspective, with an attempt to oppose the instrumentalization of subjectivity by means of an effort to recuperate the negativity as a counterpoint to the blind adhesion to the historical present.

O texto representa uma tentativa de tratar a experiência universitária situando-a entre dois liberalismos, o dos fundadores da USP, a que chamamos liberalismo ilustrado, e o neoliberalismo atual. Neste sentido, organiza elementos e esboça uma reflexão comparativa, de ordem histórica e institucional, sobre a universidade brasileira, muito especificamente a USP, focalizando o período compreendido entre os anos 30 e a atualidade. Com isso se pretende compreender a transformação de um projeto inicial e fundador num projeto terminal, aquele que está sendo implementado em nome de uma racionalização modernizadora. O objetivo do texto é, portanto, o entendimento do presente e dos compromissos que são solicitados a assumir aqueles que de alguma maneira vincularam suas vidas ao destino da Instituição.

This text represents an atempt to deal with the university experience placing it between the two liberalisms; one from the founders of USP, which is called lllustrated Liberalism, and the other one, that is the recent neo-liberalism. In this way, this text organizes topics and outlines a comparative reflection concerning the history and Institution of the Brazilian university, and more often of USP, highlighting the period between 1930 's and nowadays. This text tries to understand the transformation of an inicial project and its final project, which is being implemented nowadays due to a modern rationalization. In other words, the objective of this text is to understand the present situation of the university, and the compromises of whom, in some way, attached their lives to the destiny of the Institution.

Este texto trata de alguns aspectos que julgamos importantes para o entendimento da noção de razão instrumental. Focalizamos numa primeira parte alguns temas inscritos na fundação filosófica da moderni-dade, visando assim fornecer subsídios para a compreensão da história crítica da razão feita por Adorno e Horkheimer. Procuramos também tratar de pontos estratégicos para a abordagem dialética do Iluminismo, com a finalidade de esclarecer a necessidade, posta pelos autores, da consideração das contradições presentes no desenvolvimento da razão iluminista, tais como progresso/regressão e autonomia/dominação.

This text deals with features considered of importance for the general comprehension of the concept of instrumental reason. Primarily, in the article, a few themes inscribed in the philosophical foundation of modern times are pointed out, and therefore, provide aid for an understanding of the critical history of reason formulated by Adorno and Horkheimer. Strategic points for the debate of the dialectics of Illuminism are discussed, with the objective of highlighting the necessity of considering the contradictions present in the development of illuministic reason such as progress/regression as well as autonomy/domination.

This paper discuss the relations between the transcendental analysis of Kantian's Ideas of Reason (specially the Idea of Unity) and the traditional Metaphysical heritage.
