ABSTRACT Arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi increase water and nutrient absorption from the soil by plants. However, its benefits to plants vary depending on the inoculated species. This study aimed to determine the influence of different species of mycorrhizal fungi on the development and productivity of grain sorghum cultivars. The experiment was conducted in a greenhouse in a completely randomized design in a 2 x 5 factorial scheme, consisting of two sorghum cultivars (BRS 310 and BRS 330) and five treatments (control without inoculation and four species of arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi: Gigaspora margarita, Glomus formosanum, Acaulospora scrobiculata, and Scutellospora pellucida), with four replications. Plant height, stem diameter, leaf area, length, volume, specific surface area, root diameter, shoot dry mass, root dry mass, thousand-grain weight, grain productivity, colonization, dependence, and mycorrhizal efficiency were evaluated. The results showed that inoculation with the species S. pellucida induced higher root and shoot development of plants of the cultivar BRS 310, as well as higher productivity of sorghum grains. The cultivar BRS 330 showed higher root development when inoculated with the species G. formosanum and a higher shoot development when inoculated with the species A. scrobiculata. Mycorrhizal dependence for grain productivity was low and varied with the inoculated species of mycorrhizal fungi. The mycorrhizal efficiency for shoot dry mass was higher with the inoculation of A. scrobiculata and S. pellucida in the cultivar BRS 310 and A. scrobiculata and G. margarita in the cultivar BRS 330. Abstract: Thermal modification of wood is an environmentally friendly method to improve wood durability, mainly against microorganisms. By employing a process similar to the ThermoWood®, various Gmelina arborea (gamhar) wood specimens were thermally modified at 180 °C, 200 °C, and 220 °C for 3 hours. The effects of the thermal modification process on the resistance to decay by rot-fungi, and attack by subterranean, arboreal, and dry-wood termites were determined. Generally, the thermal modification improved the resistance of Gmelina arborea (gamhar) to decay by Trametes versicolor with increasing process temperature. However, the effect of the process was null on the resistance to biodeterioration by the brown-rot fungus Coniophora puteana and the dry-wood termites Cryptotermes brevis. Even so, the visual damage caused by Cryptotermes brevis was slight. Untreated and thermally modified woods recorded higher resistance to Coniophora puteana than Trametes versicolor. Mass loss caused by Nasutitermes corniger also decreased with increasing thermal modification temperature. According to the visual damage rating values, the attack by Nasutitermes corniger was slight. However, the thermal modification inversely impacted Gmelina arborea (gamhar) attack by Macrotermes sp., as its resistance in the field to the termites decreased with increasing modification temperature. Thus, the thermal modification process contributed to improving the decay resistance of the modified wood to white-rot fungus Trametes versicolor and attack by the arboreal termites Nasutitermes corniger exposed indoors. On the other hand, thermally modified Gmelina arborea (gamhar) wood was very susceptible to Macrotermes sp. in the field. This work would provide a reliable reference document to guide wood industry stakeholders in assessing the performance of untreated and thermally modified Gmelina arborea (gamhar) wood in situations exposed to fungi and termite species adopted.

ABSTRACT Introduction: The development of Distance Education in Higher Education Institutions requires a series of adaptations to this educational modality, which also affects university libraries as information support units for teaching, research and extension. Distance learning becomes the target audience of these units, requiring products and services, especially technological ones, to support the teaching-learning process. Objective: To identify actions aimed at providing environments/platforms for distance learning services in libraries of institutions that are part of the Open University of Brazil. Methodology: This is a descriptive study with a qualitative and quantitative approach. The institutions were consulted through the SisUAB system, and data were collected by applying an online questionnaire with library managers of these institutions. Results: It can be seen that out of the 76 responding institutions, only three identified integration actions through an environment/platform for distance learning, and the service to this public is mostly centered on making virtual libraries and databases available. What stands out is the professionals' view that there is no need for differentiated services for distance and face-to-face audiences, with the maxim that all services are available to all audiences. Conclusion: The initiatives are few in relation to the universe of institutions investigated, so that actions to mitigate this information gap need to be increased and made more effective. RESUMO Introdução: O desenvolvimento da Educação a Distância nas Instituições de Ensino Superior demanda uma série de adaptações para atender a esta modalidade educacional, que alcança também as Bibliotecas Universitárias como unidades de apoio informacional ao ensino, à pesquisa e à extensão. A EaD torna-se público-alvo dessas unidades, requerendo produtos e serviços, sobretudo tecnológicos, para apoio ao processo ensino-aprendizagem. Objetivo: Identificar ações voltadas para a disponibilização de ambientes/plataformas de serviços para a EaD em bibliotecas de instituições integrantes da Universidade Aberta do Brasil. Metodologia: O estudo é de caráter descritivo e de abordagem quali-quantitativa. As instituições foram consultadas no Sistema SisUAB e a coleta dos dados foi realizada por meio da aplicação de questionário on-line com gestores de bibliotecas destas instituições. Resultados: Constata-se que das 76 instituições respondentes, em apenas três identificaram-se ações de integração por meio de ambiente/plataforma para a EaD, sendo que o atendimento a esse público está centrado, em sua maior parte, na disponibilização de bibliotecas virtuais e em bases de dados. Abstract Waterborne polyurethane (WPU) coatings used for moisture protection of surfaces have been used broadly. They have been considered environmentally friendly because their synthesis releases less or no volatile organic compounds (VOCs) to the atmosphere. With the Covid-19 pandemic concerns, cleaning protocols of these surfaces have been applied and scientific knowledge about the effects of these liquids on WPU surfaces is necessary. In this work, diffusion experiments were performed using four liquids, in pure WPU and WPU filled with graphene oxide (GO). Detergent had the most severe effect on polyurethane films, causing severe cracks and weight loss. Diffusion parameters of HCl 5% and HCl 10% were greater in WPU/GO nanocomposites than in pure WPU. Mechanical tests under chemical aging showed that alcohol reduced most the tensile strength and Young modulus. Abstract The aim of this study was to assess the factors associated with oral health-related quality of life in adolescents (OHRQoL). Individual data on adolescents were collected from a secondary database. OHRQoL was measured using the oral impact on daily performance (OIDP) scale. Individual- and city-level variables were selected to represent the structural and intermediate determinants of health. The individual covariates analyzed were sex, age, skin color, maternal education, household income, number of people per room in the housing unit, dental attendance, self-perception of dental needs, untreated dental caries, and gingival bleeding. The contextual variables included the allocation factor, the Human Development Index (HDI), Gini coefficient, illiteracy, unemployment, income, average number of emergency dental visits per inhabitant, access to a sanitary sewer system, garbage collection, primary health care coverage, oral health team coverage, and number of tooth extractions between selected dental procedures and supervised toothbrushing. Unadjusted and adjusted multilevel Poisson regression analyses were used to evaluate the relationship between contextual and individual variables with overall OIDP scores (STATA version 16.0) - rate ratio (RR) and 95%CI. The mean OIDP score was 0.72 and the prevalence was 31.8%. There was an association between supervised toothbrushing average and the outcome (RR 0.95; 95%CI 0.91–0.99). Moreover, adolescents who lived in municipalities with the highest average number of emergency dental visits per inhabitant showed a higher OIDP. Sex, maternal education, untreated dental caries, and gingival bleeding were associated with OIDP. Abstract We hypothesized that the hCG modulates the expression of IFNT-pathway and ISGs in bovine endometrium during early pregnancy. The aim of the current study is to evaluate the effect of hCG on IFNT-pathway signals and ISGs expression in endometrial cells. For this, 29 non-lactating cross-bread cows were used in the study and submitted to a 9-day fixed-time artificial insemination (FTAI) protocol. The day of the AI was considered Day 0 (D0), and five days (D5) after the FTAI, the cows were allocated into two groups: Control and hCG group, when a hCG group received a single dose of 2.500UI of hCG. On day 18 after FTAI (D18) cows were slaughtered and endometrial tissue samples were collected. There was no difference between the embryo recovery rate of the cows in C compared to the hCG. The hCG group increased the accessory corpus luteum formation rate. The hCG resulted in greater serum progesterone concentration in the hCG group compared to the C on Day 14. Only the expression of IFNAR2 and STAT1 were upregulated on pregnant cows of the hCG group compared to the C group. The pathway genes (JAK1, STAT2, and IRF9) were not regulated. The mRNA abundance of ISG15, MX1, MX2, and OAS1 was upregulated in pregnant cows for hCG group, compared to C group. ABSTRACT The objective of this study was to examine the effect of the increasing levels of inclusion of palm kernel cake (PKC) in the diet on the performance of feedlot heifers. Forty-eight Nelore heifers with an initial weight of 274 ± 4.58 kg, at 24 months of age, were confined for 98 days in a feedlot. The animals were allocated to the four treatments in a completely randomized design. Treatments consisted of PKC levels of 0 (control), 10, 20, and 30% in the total dry matter of the diet. The roughage:concentrate ratio in the diets was 30:70. Ether extract intake increased, whereas the intakes of non-fiber carbohydrates and total digestible nutrients decreased with the inclusion of PKC. The apparent digestibility of all nutrients decreased, as well as the amounts of nitrogen digested and retained. Microbial protein synthesis and its efficiency also declined. The inclusion of up to 20% PKC increased feeding time and reduced rumination time of heifers. Intake and rumination efficiencies decreased with the inclusion of PKC in the diet. Final weight and average daily gain did not change, but feed efficiency increased with the inclusion of PKC. The inclusion of up to 30% PKC in the diet of feedlot heifers is recommended. Resumo Alismataceae é uma família de plantas aquáticas ou semiaquáticas com ampla distribuição em áreas úmidas, ocorrendo em regiões tropicais, subtropicais e temperadas. Embora o Brasil seja responsável por 50% de toda a diversidade da família, existem muitas lacunas no conhecimento das espécies e sua distribuição, principalmente na região sul do país. Este trabalho apresenta o estudo das espécies de Alismataceae nos Biomas Pampa e Mata Atlântica do Rio Grande do Sul, destacando aspectos taxonômicos, ecológicos e de distribuição. O estudo foi baseado na análise morfológica de espécimes depositados em repositórios de dados online e herbários, bem como espécimes coletados em áreas úmidas do extremo sul do Brasil. Abstract Alismataceae is a family of aquatic or semi-aquatic plants with a wide distribution in humid areas, occurring in tropical, subtropical and temperate regions. Although Brazil accounts for 50% of the entire species diversity of this family, there are many gaps in knowledge of the species and their distribution, especially in the southern region of the country. This paper presents the study of Alismataceae species in the Biomes Pampa and Atlantic Forest of Rio Grande do Sul, highlighting taxonomic, ecological and distribution aspects. This study was based on the morphological analysis of specimens deposited in online data repositories and herbaria, as well as specimens collected in wetlands in the extreme south of Brazil. Ten taxa were registered for Rio Grande do Sul state: Echinodorus grandiflorus, E. longiscapus, E. macrophyllus, E. reptilis, E. uruguayensis, Helanthium tenellum, Hydrocleys nymphoides, Sagittaria lancifolia, S. rhombifolia and S. montevidensis. As a result of this study, an identification key for the taxa, morphological descriptions, images of the species and distribution maps are presented. ABSTRACT. The objective of this work was to evaluate the non-carcass components of crossbred Santa Inês lambs finished in feedlot with the inclusion of different levels of red propolis extract (RPE). Thirty-five crossbred lambs were used with an average weight of 17.08 ± 2.36 kg and mean age of five months, distributed in a completely randomized design with five treatments and seven replications. Abstract Background: Physiological alterations of aging contribute to osteoporosis and fractures, related to low serum 25(OH)D concentration. Objective: To investigate the association between serum 25(OH)D concentration, intake of foods source of vitamin D and calcium, health conditions and the presence of osteoporosis and fractures in seniors. Method: A cross-sectional study with 274 older adults from Piauí was carried out in two stages: a questionnaire on intake of food sources of vitamin D, calcium and health conditions (including the outcome variable, presence of osteoporosis and fractures), and blood collection for biochemical examination of serum 25(OH)D concentration. Descriptive and inferential analysis and logistic regression were performed. Results: Most participants had comorbidities (86.4%). The outcomes prevalence was 23.7 and 14.6%, respectively. In the multiple analysis, drinking alcoholic beverages (odds ratio — OR=6.58; 95% confidence interval — 95%CI 1.88–23) and calcium replacement (OR=2.87; 95%CI 1.25–6.61) were associated with fractures, while female (OR=5.69; 95%CI 1.12–28.9) and calcium replacement (OR=5.62; 95%CI:1.62–19.5) were associated with osteoporosis. The highest medians of 25(OH)D were found in those who regularly consumed cheese and yogurt (p=0.021). Resumo Introdução: Alterações fisiológicas do envelhecimento contribuem para osteoporose e fraturas relacionadas à baixa concentração sérica de 25(OH)D. Objetivo: Investigar a associação entre concentração sérica de 25(OH)D, ingestão de alimentos fonte de vitamina D e cálcio, condições de saúde e presença de osteoporose e fraturas em idosos. Método: Estudo transversal com 274 idosos do Piauí. Realizado em duas etapas: questionário sobre ingestão de alimentos fonte de vitamina D, cálcio e condições de saúde (incluindo a variável desfecho, presença de osteoporose e fraturas) e coleta de sangue para exame bioquímico de concentração sérica de 25(OH)D. Realizou-se análise descritiva, inferencial e regressão logística. Resultados: A maioria dos idosos apresentava comorbidades (86,4%). A prevalência dos desfechos foi de 23,7% e 14,6%, respectivamente. Na análise múltipla, ingerir bebidas alcoólicas (OR=6,58; IC95% 1,88–23) e reposição com cálcio (OR=2,87; IC95% 1,25–6,61) mostraram-se associados às fraturas, enquanto sexo feminino (OR=5,69; IC95% 1,12–28,9) e reposição com cálcio (OR=5,62; IC95% 1,62–19,5) mostraram-se associados à osteoporose. As maiores medianas de 25(OH)D foram encontradas naqueles que consumiam queijo e iogurte regularmente (p=0,021). ABSTRACT Parasports are sports practices created or modified for people with disabilities (PwD) and as a manifestation of body culture they must be present in the Physical Education curriculum at school. Therefore, this article aims to analyze the pedagogical approach and its effects on interventions related to parasports in school Physical Education. To this end, a systematic review was carried out, following the main steps proposed by PRISMA 2020, of publications in national and international academic journals. Of the 9,188 publications initially identified, 14 studies were selected. ABSTRACT The purpose of this research was to analyze the theoretical-methodological contributions of video games to teachers training in a Physical Education degree program. We opted for a qualitative approach and employed Hermeneutic-Dialectical methodology, whose central principle is communication, explored in this research through semi-structured interviews with teachers in Physical Education training at a public university. Abstract It is common for songs to go viral on streaming platforms and social media, but not all viral songs become hits. In this context, we aim to discover what differs viral from hit songs beyond their definition. We do so by using a quantitative methodology over charts in the Brazilian market. We compare hit and viral songs regarding their intrinsic and extrinsic characteristics, and our results reveal significant differences between them. Features such as music genres, lyrics topics, and emotions emerge as crucial elements to distinguishing such songs within the Brazilian context. Furthermore, temporal features indicate differences in the diffusion processes between hits and virals. Resumo A viralização de músicas através de plataformas de streaming e redes sociais é comum, mas nem todas as músicas virais se tornam sucessos. ABSTRACT Objective: To verify whether an infiltrant resin used to inactivate white spot lesions (WSL) on enamel can resist the abrasive challenges promoted by tooth brushing with different dentifrices. Material and Methods: WSL was induced on bovine enamel samples (pH cycling) and then treated with an infiltrant resin (ICON). Afterward, half of the sample was protected. The other half underwent an abrasive challenge using an electric toothbrush with soft bristles., using dentifrices with different abrasiveness (n=10): Group 1: Colgate Maximum Cavity Protection; Group 2: Sensodyne Repair & Protect; Group 3: Colgate Sensitive Pro-Relief; Group 4: Colgate 2 in 1 Watermelon Flavor; e Group 5: Colgate Luminous White Advanced. The wear profile after brushing was evaluated by confocal laser scanning microscopy (µm), and the enamel/resin interface was observed in scanning electron microscopy (SEM). Profilometry data were analyzed using one-way ANOVA followed by Tukey's test (α=5%). Results: Brushing produced more significant wear on group 5 (3.96±0.26) when compared to groups 1 (3.45±0.21), 2(3.22±0,4) and 4(3.11±0.34). Data from Group 3 (3.82±0.6) was similar to G5 but higher than G1, G2, and G4. SEM analysis showed that the adhesive interface remained intact in all groups after the abrasive challenge. Conclusion: Dentifrices with a higher relative dentin abrasiveness produced more significant wear of the infiltrant, but the composite/enamel interface was not altered after the abrasive challenges.
