RESUMO Desde 1965, os Programas de Pós-Graduação no Brasil têm aplicado exames de proficiência com o objetivo de verificar a capacidade de leitura, interpretação e compreensão de textos em línguas estrangeiras. Nesses exames, a única fonte de pesquisa permitida é o dicionário impresso. Guiado pela teoria dos Sistemas Dinâmicos Complexos, este artigo propõe uma reflexão sobre a relevância desse modelo de exame, no contexto das práticas sociais mediadas por tecnologias digitais que, devido à pandemia da COVID-19, tiveram que se adaptar. A análise foi baseada em 93 editais publicados pelos Programas antes da pandemia (2017-2019) e durante a pandemia (2020-2021). ABSTRACT Since 1965, graduate Programs in Brazil, with the objective to verify the capacity to read, interpret and understand texts in foreign languages, have applied proficiency exams, in which the only research source allowed is the printed dictionary.
