RESUMO: A utilização de bioestimulantes pode auxiliar a mitigar os prejuízos ao milho, ocasionados pela má qualidade de estande. Este trabalho foi conduzido objetivando avaliar o efeito do tratamento de sementes com bioestimulante sobre o desempenho agronômico do milho, submetido a diferentes níveis de variabilidade na distribuição espacial das plantas na linha de semeadura. O experimento foi implantado em Lages, SC, durante o ano agrícola de 2013/2014. O delineamento experimental foi de blocos ao acaso, dispostos em parcelas subdivididas. Nas parcelas principais, testaram-se três níveis de desuniformidade espacial na linha: 0, 50 e 100% do Coeficiente de Variação (CV). No nível 0 % de CV, todas as sementes foram uniformemente distribuídas no sulco de semeadura, a uma distância de 17cm entre si. Nos demais níveis de CV, as distâncias entre sementes variaram conforme o tratamento. Nas subparcelas, testou-se a presença ou ausência do tratamento de sementes com bioestimulante. O aumento da variabilidade na distribuição espacial das plantas reduziu a área foliar e o teor de clorofila da folha índice no espigamento, bem como o diâmetro do colmo na colheita, independentemente do tratamento de sementes com bioestimulante. Isso contribuiu para reduzir o número de grãos por espiga e o rendimento de grãos dos tratamentos com 50 e 100% de CV na variabilidade espacial, tanto na presença quanto na ausência do bioestimulante. Portanto, o tratamento de sementes com bioestimulante não mitigou os prejuízos ao rendimento de grãos do milho ocasionados pela distribuição espacial irregular das plantas na linha de semeadura.

ABSTRACT: The use of biostimulants may help to mitigate damages to maize caused by poor stand quality. This research was carried out aiming to evaluate the effect of seed treatment with biostimulant on the agronomic performance of maize submitted to different levels of plant spatial distribution at the sowing row. The experiment was set in Lages, SC, during the 2013/2014 growing season. A randomized block design disposed in split plots was used. Three levels of plant spatial unevenness at the sowing row were tested in the main plots: 0, 50 and 100% of the variation coefficient (CV). At the level 0% of CV all seeds were evenly distributed with a distance of 17cm from each other. At the other levels of CV, the distance between seeds varied according to the treatment. The presence or absence of seed treatment with biostimulant was assessed in the split plots. The increase in plant spatial distribution variability at the sowing row decreased leaf area and leaf chlorophyll content at silking, as well as stem diameter at harvest, regardless of seed treatment with biostimulant. Such behavior contributed to decrease the number of kernels per ear and grain yield of treatments with 50 and 100% C.V. of spatial variability, with and without biostimulant seed treatment. Therefore, seed treatment with biostimulant did not mitigate damages to maize grain yield caused by irregular spatial plant distribution at sowing row.

A utilização de bactérias diazotróficas pode auxiliar a alcançar maiores produtividades e reduzir os impactos ambientais decorrentes da utilização de fertilizantes nitrogenados. Este trabalho foi conduzido com o objetivo de avaliar o efeito do tratamento de sementes com bactérias do gêneroAzospirillum e da aplicação de doses de N mineral sobre o desempenho agronômico do milho em diferentes níveis de manejo. O experimento foi conduzido no campo, na cidade de Lages, SC, durante os anos agrícolas de 2011/2012 e 2012/2013. Utilizou-se o delineamento experimental de blocos ao acaso dispostos em parcelas subsubdivididas. Na parcela principal, foram testados dois níveis de manejo, o médio, expectativa de produtividade de 8.000 kg ha-1; e o alto, expectativa de produtividade de 18.000 kg ha-1. Nas subparcelas, testaram-se quatro doses de N, equivalentes a 0; 0,5; 1; e 1,5 vez a dose recomendada pela Comissão Sul Brasileira de Química e Fertilidade do Solo para atingir a expectativa de produtividade prevista em cada nível de manejo. Nas subsubparcelas, avaliou-se o efeito do tratamento de sementes com Azospirillumsp. O rendimento de grãos variou de 8.344 a 16.947 kg ha-1 no nível de manejo alto e aumentou quadraticamente com o aumento das doses de N, tanto nas parcelas inoculadas quanto nas não inoculadas. No nível de manejo médio, os rendimentos oscilaram entre 5.986 e 9.684 kg ha-1, aumentaram linearmente com o incremento na dose de N nos tratamentos inoculados e não foram influenciados pela aplicação de N mineral nos tratamentos sem inoculação. Nos dois sistemas de manejo, a eficiência de uso do N diminuiu com o incremento na dose de N, tanto nas parcelas inoculadas quanto nas não inoculadas. Não houve diferenças significativas no rendimento de grãos dos tratamentos com e sem inoculação, independentemente do sistema de manejo e da dose de N. Portanto, o tratamento de sementes com Azospirillumsp. não melhorou o desempenho agronômico do milho.

The use of diazotrophic bacteria can help to achieve higher yields and reduce negative environmental impacts caused by N fertilizers. The aim of this study was to evaluate the effects of seed treatment with Azospirillum bacteria and the application of different rates of mineral N on maize agronomic performance at two levels of yield management. A field experiment was set up in Lages, SC, Brazil, in the 2011/2012 and 2012/2013 growing seasons. A randomized block experimental design arranged in split-split plots was used. Two yield management levels were tested in the main plots: medium (grain yield expectation of 8,000 kg ha-1) and high (grain yield expectation of 18,000 kg ha-1). Four N rates were assessed in the split plots, rates equivalent to 0, 0.5, 1.0, and 1.5 times the rate recommended by the Southern Brazil Commission of Soil Chemistry and Fertility to achieve the yield expectation at each level of yield management. The effect of seed treatment with Azospirillum sp. was evaluated in the split-split plots. Grain yield ranged from 8,344 to 16,947 kg ha-1 at the high management level and increased quadratically with the increase in N rate, both with and without Azospirillum seed treatment. At the medium management level, grain yield ranged from 5,986 to 9,684 kg ha-1. It increased linearly with the increase in N rate when seeds were treated with Azospirillum and was not affected by mineral N in treatments without seed inoculation. The efficiency of N use decreased when Nn rates increased at both yield management levels and whether the seeds were inoculated or not. There was no significant difference in grain yield between inoculated and non-inoculated treatments, regardless of the yield management level or N rate. Therefore, seed treatment with Azospirillum sp. did not improve the agronomic performance of maize.

A utilização de fontes estabilizadas de N, a partir dos mecanismos de inibição da enzima urease e de inibidores da nitrificação do amônio, pode auxiliar na obtenção de maiores tetos produtivos, contribuindo para a sustentabilidade da atividade agrícola. Este trabalho foi conduzido com o objetivo de avaliar o efeito de diferentes fontes e doses de fertilizantes nitrogenados minerais sobre o rendimento de grãos e a eficiência de uso do N pelo milho. Fez-se o experimento no campo, no município de Lages, SC, onde foi implantado no delineamento de blocos casualizados, dispostos em parcelas subdivididas. Na parcela principal, foram avaliadas quatro doses de N em cobertura: 0, 70, 140 e 280 kg ha-1, equivalentes a 0, 25, 50 e 100 % da dose recomendada para obter 18.000 kg ha-1 de grãos. Para cada dose, foram testadas, nas subparcelas, quatro fontes de N mineral: nitrato de amônio, ureia comum, ureia com inibidor da enzima urease e ureia com inibidor da nitrificação do amônio. O experimento foi implantado nos dias 31/10/2011 e 28/10/2012, no sistema de semeadura direta. O híbrido utilizado foi o P30R50H, semeado na densidade de 90.000 plantas ha-1 e espaçamento entrelinhas de 70 cm. As características agronômicas como teor percentual de N foliar, índice do teor relativo de clorofila e rendimento de grãos aumentaram linearmente com a elevação das doses de N em cobertura; porém, não foram influenciadas pelas fontes de adubação nitrogenada. A eficiência de uso do N diminuiu com o incremento das doses de N em cobertura no primeiro ano de execução do trabalho. Não houve diferenças entre as quatro fontes, quanto à eficiência de uso do N. A utilização da ureia contendo inibidor da enzima urease e da nitrificação de amônio não aumentou o rendimento de grãos do milho e nem melhorou a eficiência de uso do N, em relação aos fertilizantes nitrogenados convencionais (ureia comum e nitrato de amônio).

The use of stabilized N sources, with mechanisms for inhibition of urease enzyme and with ammonium nitrification inhibitors, may help to achieve higher grain yields, contributing to the sustainability of agricultural activity. The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of different mineral N sources and application rates on maize grain yield and N use efficiency. A field experiment was carried out in Lages, SC, Brazil, in a randomized block design in split-plots. Nitrogen was side-dressed in the main plots at four application rates: 0, 70, 140, and 280 kg ha-1, equivalent to 0, 25, 50, and 100 % of the rate recommended to achieve a grain yield of 18,000 kg ha-1. For each application rate, four mineral N sources were tested in the split-plots: ammonium nitrate, common urea, urea with urease inhibitor, and urea with ammonium nitrification inhibitor. The experiment was set up on 10/31/2011 and 10/28/2012 under a no-tillage system. The hybrid P30R50H was sown at a density of 90,000 plants ha-1 and a between-row spacing of 70 cm. The agronomic traits of percentage of leaf N content, leaf chlorophyll content, and grain yield increased linearly with the increase in the N application rate, but they were not affected by the sources of N. Nitrogen use efficiency decreased with the increase in the N application rate in the first year of the study. There were no differences among the four sources in regard to N use efficiency in either year. The use of urea containing urease enzyme inhibitor and ammonium nitrification inhibitor did not increase maize grain yield nor improve the crop efficiency in N use compared to conventional N fertilizers (common urea and ammonium nitrate).
