ABSTRACT Desertification is the degradation process caused by climatic conditions and human activities that results in loss of soil productivity and decline in vegetation growth in the long term. Several indices related to vegetation, soil and climate are used to monitor desertification, but few studies explore qualitative and quantitative aspects of indices on desertification on spatial and hierarchical scale. This study aims to identify and measure indices related to increased risk of desertification on global, local and hierarchical scales using multinomial logistic regression models. Images from TM, ETM+ and OLI sensor from 1997 to 2018 in the end of dry and rainy seasons were used to quantify NDVI, TGSI, albedo, temperature, aridity index, evapotranspiration and precipitation on global spatial scale (Irauçuba Centro Norte) and local spatial scale (Miraíma, Canindé, Irauçuba and Santa Quitéria). GISD was calculated by geometric mean of weighted indices and segmented into 8 classes of susceptibility to desertification (hierarchical scale). The results showed that the best models were obtained on local scale and for the end of the rainy season. Temperature proved to be the most important variable for increased risk of desertification on global, local and hierarchical scales. Therefore, the increase in the risk of desertification in the studied areas is due to human activities of deforestation, overgrazing and fire. Resumo Objetivo O objetivo deste trabalho foi comparar os parâmetros espaço temporais e cinemáticos da marcha de crianças típicas em três condições: descalças, usando calçados biomiméticos e, calçados de uso diário (não biomiméticos - próprios das crianças). Abstract Objective To compare the spatial-temporal parameters and walking kinematics of toddlers wearing biomimetic shoes, regular shoes (daily use owned shoes), and barefoot. Methods Spatial-temporal parameters (speed, step length, and stride width), the mean vertical displacement of the center of mass (COM), knee flexion peak, and maximal foot height were analyzed. The increase in anthropogenic activity over time has led to an exponential increase in greenhouse gas emissions, especially CO2. Proftable technologies for CO2 capture and separation are conspicuous, and porous biochars derived from biomass waste can be a useful solution. Herein, we produced activated nitrogen-doped biochars for CO2 capture from corn husk waste, urea and K2CO3, named N-Bio-X (X = 600, 700, and 800 °C). N-Bio-X exhibited microporosity and different nitrogen contents and thus played an important role in the adsorption of CO2. RESUMO Objetivo: Examinar as associações entre a produção científica das unidades de terapia intensiva brasileiras e suas características organizacionais. Métodos: Trata-se de uma reanálise de uma coorte retrospectiva anterior, que avaliou as características organizacionais das unidades de terapia intensiva e suas associações com os desfechos. Analisamos dados de 93 unidades de terapia intensiva em todo o Brasil. As unidades de terapia intensiva foram avaliadas quanto à produtividade científica e aos efeitos de suas atividades de pesquisa, usando indicadores de assistência para comparação. ABSTRACT Objective: To examine the associations between the scientific output of Brazilian intensive care units and their organizational characteristics. Methods: This study is a re-analysis of a previous retrospective cohort that evaluated organizational intensive care unit characteristics and their associations with outcomes. We analyzed data from 93 intensive care units across Brazil. Intensive care units were assessed for scientific productivity and the effects of their research activities, using indicators of care for comparison. We defined the most scientifically productive intensive care units as those with numerous publications and a SCImago Journal Rank score or an H-index above the median values of the participating intensive care units. Results: Intensive care units with more publications, higher SCImago Journal Rank scores and higher H-index scores had a greater number of certified intensivists (median of 7; IQR 5 - 10 versus 4; IQR 2 - 8; with p < 0.01 for the comparison between intensive care units with more versus fewer publications). Resumo As discussões levantas nesse texto são fruto de pesquisa acerca da atuação do Grupo Banco Mundial (BM) no campo da educação superior. O autor tem o pressuposto de que as concepções em torno da avaliação da educação superior dos Estados-membros do BM são, parcial ou totalmente, delineadas pelos tensionamentos causados por esse organismo através de documentos orientadores por ele publicados. Para confirmação dessa hipótese, é apresentada a análise do What matters most for tertiary education systems: a framework paper, que se configurou como um documento orientador para a criação e o fortalecimento de ferramentas de avaliação dos sistemas educacionais. A análise semântico-categorial do referido documento, apontou a existência da criação de mecanismos avaliativos por parte do BM, assentados na neoliberalização da educação, em torno dos seguintes tópicos: diversificação institucional, economia do conhecimento, participação do setor privado, financiamento das atividades e acesso e permanência na educação superior. Abstract The deliberations raised in this paper result of a research on the work of the World Bank Group (WB) in the field of tertiary education, carried out, in part, during a Doctorate course in Education. The author starts from the assumption that the conceptions around the evaluation of tertiary education in WB Member States are, partially or totally, outlined by the tensions caused by this organism, through guiding documents published by it. To confirm this hypothesis, an analysis of “What matters most for tertiary education systems: a framework paper” is presented, set as a guiding document for the creation and strengthening of evaluation tools for educational systems. The semantic-categorical analysis of that document pointed to the creation of evaluation mechanisms by the WB, based on the neo liberalization of education, around the following topics: institutional diversification, knowledge economy, participation of the private sector, financing of activities and access and permanence in higher education. It should be noted that this World Bank document is little explored in Brazilian scientific literature. El autor parte de la premisa de que las concepciones en torno a la evaluación de la educación superior en los Estados miembros del BM están parcial o totalmente delineadas por las tensiones provocadas por este organismo a través de documentos orientadores publicados por él. CO2 emissions into the atmosphere have been rapidly rising due to human activities, resulting in the escalation of global warming. To mitigate climate change, it is imperative to develop materials for CO2 capture with high CO2 capacity and low production costs. Herein, we developed a facile method to obtain adsorbents based on reduced graphene oxide (rGO) sheets, NrGO(1 – X)700, where X represents the mass of diethylenetriamine (DETA) (X = 1, 2 and 4 g) used in the preparation. The materials NrGO(1 – 1)700, NrGO (1 – 2)700, and NrGO(1 – 4)700 were obtained from graphene oxide dispersions, followed by DETA impregnation and chemical activation with K2CO3. N2 isotherms demonstrated that the materials simultaneously presented micro and mesopores with similar values of specific surface area (280.16 to 310.32 m2 g–1), pore volume (0.26 to 0.28 cm3 g–1) and pore size (3.78 to 3.80 nm). CO2 sorption experiments revealed that the material NrGO(1 – 4)700, containing the highest amount of pyridinic, graphitic, and amino nitrogen functionalities, showed the best CO2 adsorption capacity. Diffuse reflectance Fourier transformed infrared spectroscopy experiments indicated stronger solid-gas interactions for NrGO(1 – 4)700 than for the other materials. RESUMO O presente estudo objetivou analisar as dissertações e as teses publicadas no Brasil sobre as atuações do Grupo Banco Mundial (BM) no campo da educação superior da América Latina, disponibilizadas na Biblioteca Digital Brasileira de Teses e Dissertações (BDTD). Por meio de uma análise de conteúdo, os textos encontrados foram destrinchados quanto aos aspectos da subtemática privilegiada e do trato metodológico dado para o entendimento desta. ABSTRACT This study aimed to analyze the dissertations and theses published in Brazil on the actions of the World Bank Group (WB) in the field of higher education in Latin America, made available in the Brazilian Digital Library of Theses and Dissertations (BDTD). Through a content analysis, the texts found were unraveled regarding the aspects of the privileged sub-theme and the methodological treatment given for its understanding. The results pointed to the low depth of the authors of the dissertations and theses on how, in fact, the agreements between the BM and its Member States occur, and the marginalization of the discussion regarding the interference of the internal political movements of each State in the actions of this international organism. Resumo É preocupante ver a frequência e intensidade crescentes de eventos climáticos extremos e seu impacto nos ecossistemas aquáticos e espécies de peixes. Este manuscrito relata e analisa dois eventos, um de seca em 2019 e de enchente em 2024 fornecendo insights valiosos sobre as consequências desses eventos. O resgate de 269 indivíduos de 19 espécies de peixes durante a seca de 2019 destaca o impacto significativo das condições extremas na ictiofauna. O aumento das temperaturas, o isolamento e a fragmentação do habitat devem ter representado desafios severos para as espécies de peixes durante esse período. Por outro lado, a observação de 53 indivíduos mortos de 5 espécies durante a enchente de 2024 indica os efeitos prejudiciais desse evento na população de peixes. A associação da mortalidade e dispersão de várias espécies com a barragem existente ressalta ainda mais a complexidade dos desafios enfrentados pelos peixes durante eventos extremos de enchentes. A correlação entre precipitação, regime fluvial e o impacto do uso e ocupação da terra fornece um contexto importante para a compreensão da dinâmica desses eventos extremos. A baixa precipitação durante a seca de 2019 e o aumento gradual da precipitação entre 2022 e 2024, levando à enchente, demonstram o papel significativo dos padrões de precipitação na formação dos resultados para as espécies de peixes. Além disso, a análise do uso e ocupação da terra, particularmente o aumento substancial da urbanização na bacia de drenagem nos últimos 30 anos, destaca os fatores induzidos pelo homem que contribuem para o estresse nos ecossistemas aquáticos. Abstract The increasing frequency and intensity of extreme weather events and their impact on aquatic ecosystems and fish species is concerning. This manuscript reports and analyzes two events, a drought in 2019 and a flood in 2024, providing valuable insights into the consequences of these events. The rescue of 269 individuals of 19 fish species during the 2019 drought highlights the significant impact of the extreme conditions on the ichthyofauna. Rising temperatures, isolation, and habitat fragmentation must have posed severe challenges for the fish species during this period. On the other hand, the observation of 53 dead individuals of 5 species during the 2024 flood indicates the detrimental effects of this event on the fish population. RESUMO Objetivo: avaliar se os cirurgiões dentistas compreendem os desafios que os pacientes têm acerca da reabilitação protética pós cirurgia oncológica bucal. Métodos: trata-se de um estudo de caráter descritivo-quantitativo. A população foi composta por 37 cirurgiões dentistas de diversas especialidades na cidade de Montes Claros – Minas Gerais, Brazil. A coleta de dados se deu através de um questionário semiestruturado online buscando informações sobre conhecimento e percepção desses profissionais sobre a reabilitação protética em pacientes pós cirurgia oncológica bucal. Resultados: nota-se que, 75,7% dos participantes relataram que a maioria dos pacientes se sentiram satisfeitos com o tratamento protético, entre as melhorias, destacam-se, mastigação (94,6%), respiração (35,1%), músculos bucais (48,6%), voz (56,8%), saúde (59,5%), autoestima (100,0%) e mordida (62,2%). Além disso, observou-se a presença de uma equipe multiprofissional para tratamento desse paciente. ABSTRACT Objective: The aim of this study was to evaluate the comprehension of dental practitioners regarding the complexities encountered by patients undergoing prosthetic rehabilitation following oral cancer surgery. Methods: This research employed a descriptive-quantitative approach. The study population comprised 37 dentists representing various specialized fields located in Montes Claros, Minas Gerais, Brazil. Data were gathered through an online semi-structured questionnaire designed to elicit insights into the knowledge and perceptions of these professionals pertaining to prosthetic rehabilitation in post-oral cancer surgery patients. Results: The results indicated that 75.7% of the participants reported a high level of patient satisfaction with prosthetic treatment. Notable improvements were observed in mastication (94.6%), respiration (35.1%), oral muscle function (48.6%), phonation (56.8%), overall health (59.5%), self-esteem (100.0%), and occlusion (62.2%). Furthermore, the presence of a multidisciplinary healthcare team for managing these patients was noted. Conclusion: In conclusion, it can be inferred that dentists possess a comprehensive understanding of the diverse challenges confronted by patients in the context of prosthetic rehabilitation following oral oncologic surgery. Additionally, the study underscores the pivotal role of prosthetic rehabilitation in enhancing patients’ functional abilities, aesthetics, and overall comfort. Introduction: The Charlson comorbidities index (CCI) assesses a person's chances of survival over the next 10 years. In systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE), multiple comorbidities and complications affect patient survival. Objetive: Analize the variables that influence the CCI of a group of females with SLE. Methods: Retrospective study of medical records of 100 lupus patients for CCI, clinical, epidemiological and serological variables. Results: No epidemiological variable interfered in CCI. Regarding clinical manifestations, patients with glomerulonephritis had a worse CCI than those without (p&lt;0.0001) and those with central nervous system manifestations had a tendency to worse CCI (p=0.09). Patients with anti-Ro antibodies (p=0.02) and rheumatoid factor or RF (p=0.002) were associated with a lower CCI. Conclusions: The presence of glomerulonephritis is associated with lower survival and of the anti-Ro and RF antibodies with longer survival in SLE.

Introdução : O índice de comorbidades de Charlson (ICC) avalia as chances de sobrevivência de uma pessoa nos próximos 10 anos. No lúpus eritematoso sistêmico (LES) múltiplas comorbidades e complicações afetam a sobrevida. Objetivo : Verificar as variáveis ​​que influenciam no ICC de um grupo de mulheres com LES. Métodos : Estudo retrospectivo de 100 pacientes lúpicas para o ICC, variáveis ​​clínicas, epidemiológicas e sorológicas. Resultados : Nenhuma variável epidemiológica interferiu no ICC. Quanto à clínica, pacientes com glomerulonefrite tiveram pior ICC do que os sem (p&lt;0,0001) e os com manifestações de sistema nervoso central tiveram tendência para pior ICC (p=0,09). Resumo: Objetivo Os grupos funcionais do zooplâncton desempenham um papel importante no funcionamento dos lagos, são capazes de responder prontamente às mudanças ambientais e podem estar associados às mudanças no fitoplâncton. Em regiões mais quentes, as espécies de zooplâncton apresentam pequeno tamanho corporal, o que diminui sua capacidade de pastejo e atenua o controle de cima para baixo sobre o fitoplâncton. Avaliamos as mudanças na densidade e biomassa de grupos funcionais do zooplâncton e sua relação com grupos de algas na zonação horizontal de um reservatório raso (zona pelágica, sublitoral e eulitoral). Nossa hipótese é que a densidade e biomassa dos grupos funcionais do zooplâncton estão associadas a flutuações nos grupos do fitoplâncton no zoneamento horizontal do reservatório. Abstract: Aim Zooplankton functional groups play an important role in lake functioning and can readily respond to environmental changes and may be associated with phytoplankton changes. In warmer regions, zooplankton species have a smaller body size, which decreases their grazing capacity, attenuating top-down control throughout phytoplankton. We evaluated changes in density and biomass of zooplankton functional groups and their relationship with algal groups in horizontal reservoir zonation (pelagic, sublittoral, and eulittoral zones) of the shallow reservoir. We hypothesize that the density and biomass of zooplankton functional groups are associated with fluctuations in the phytoplankton groups in horizontal reservoir zonation. Methods Changes in the structure of the zooplankton functional group and the controlling limnological variables were verified at three sampling stations: pelagic, sublittoral, and eulittoral zones in a mesotrophic reservoir. São apresentadas nove lectotipificações e seis neotipificações, junto com a proposta para rebaixar L. inundata a sinônimo de L. nervosa. As espécies podem ser distintas pela lâmina foliar, número de folhas por pseudobulbo e pela presença de calos no labelo. Abstract The presence of Liparis occurring in Brazil was revised, resulting in three taxons confirmed in national territory. Nine lectotypifications and six neotypifications, together with L. inundata being demoted to a synonym of L. nervosa, are proposed. Species can be distinguished by the leaf blade, the number of leaves per pseudobulb and the presence of calluses in the lip. From those, only L. cogniauxiana is endemic to the country, being restricted to the Cerrado biome. Liparis nervosa occurs in all Brazilian biomes and is the only one registered in the Pampas and the Caatinga, while L. vexillifera occurs in the Atlantic Forest, Amazon and Cerrado biomes. Abstract The Lange glacier is an outlet glacier situated in the Admiralty Bay, King George Island, Peninsula Antarctica. It retreated about 1 km since the 1950s. Although recent observations do not show any significant change at the ice-ocean margin, it is not clear whether this glacier has reached a new steady state or whether it is still adjusting to new climate conditions. By combining a three-dimensional glacier model with satellite and in-situ datasets, we investigate the sensitivity of Lange glacier to perturbations in flow rate factor, friction coefficient, surface mass balance, and calving front position. The (time-dependent) perturbation experiments show that the glacier is more sensitive to changes in surface mass balance and in flow rate factor. These results suggest that the climate variability of this region plays an important role on the glacier’s dynamics, and that measurements of englacial temperature will improve the reliability of future modeling efforts. Our model shows that the position of the ice front exerts a strong control on the glacier flux. In our time-dependent simulation, the impacts of the observed front retreat on the glacier’s dynamics persist beyond the present date. This suggests that Lange is likely still adjusting to past perturbations at its terminus.
