Abstract In 2018, the Social Liberal Party (PSL), of little relevance until then, secured Jair Bolsonaro’s election as President of Brazil and achieved success in state and national legislative elections. Building upon these results, the question arises: which party aspects contributed to success in the legislative contests? In this article, we analyze the party’s organizational factors and candidacies, pointing out that the Bolsonaro-led coordination conferred a centralizing profile to the party. Thus, despite having low institutionalization, the PSL capitalized on the benefits of the Bolsonaro phenomenon for other contests beyond the presidential one.

Abstract Although globalization is an interdisciplinary subject, phenomena such as foreign direct investments (FDI) are thought of as belonging to the economic sphere. In this article, we draw from the global production network model and the New Economic Sociology of FDIs to test the embeddedness of economic action. Nanoparticles of zein (NPZ) stabilized with surfactant polyvinyl alcohol (PVA), and nanoparticles of zein/PVA loaded with eugenol (NPZ-Eug) and the essential oil extracted from the clove (Syzygium aromaticum) (NPZ-OC) were produced by nanoprecipitation method. The extraction method of essential oil of the clove was carried out by the hydrodistillation technique, obtaining a content of 81.5% (m/m) of eugenol. The nanoparticle preparation method was optimized using a one-factor-at-a-time design of experiments, where different levels of variables (zein concentration, PVA concentration, and eugenol concentration) were explored. The best condition of synthesis was obtained with 0.3% (m/v) zein, 0.6% (m/v) PVA and 1.5 mg L-1 eugenol or essential oil of the clove, reaching NPs with acceptable propriety for stable nanoparticulate systems: size particles (NPZ = 113, NPZ-Eug = 229 and NPZ-OC = 279 nm), polydispersity index (PDI < 0.26), and zeta potential (≈ -30 mV). Loaded NPs showed encapsulation efficiency and drug-loading of 52 and 20% (NPZ-Eug), and 62, 27% (NPZ-OC), respectively. The quantification method of eugenol was validated by analytical parameters. ABSTRACT OBJECTIVE The transgender population in Brazil faces marginalization and difficulties in accessing education and health, leading many individuals to self-medicate. This study aimed to evaluate the impact of the implementation of Specialized Centers in the Transsexualizing Process (SCTP) on the use of cross-sex hormone therapy (CSHT) without medical prescription, as well as the level of education and mental health profile of these individuals. METHODS This is a cross-sectional study with data from physical and electronic medical records between September 2017 and February 2023 regarding the use of CSHT before and after the implementation of two SCTP in the state of Bahia, Brazil, in addition to data on education level, previous diagnosis of anxiety and depression of patients. RESULTS A total of 219 participants, 127 transgender men (TM) and 92 transgender women and travestis (TrTW), were assessed. A significant reduction in the prevalence of self-medication was observed in both TrTW (92.98% before and 51.43% after, p<0.001), and TM (47.17% before and 25.67% after, p = 0.010) with the implementation of SCTP. Transgender individuals who used CSHT before accessing the service were found to have a lower prevalence of depression. Self-medication was not significantly associated with education or anxiety in our sample. Abstract Introduction The COVID-19 pandemic has disproportionately affected individuals residing in Long-Term Care Facilities (LTCFs), necessitating tailored strategies to manage outbreaks. This study examines the outcomes of the ILPI BH project, a collaborative effort between the Municipal Health Department and the Hospital das Clínicas of the Federal University of Minas Gerais, designed to mitigate COVID-19 spread within LTCFs. Methods Prospective cohort of secondary data: 1,794 old residents in 99 long-term care facilities of Belo Horizonte, Brazil, were followed from May 2020 to January 2021. The study analyzed the prevention strategies, residents’ clinical data, and the characteristics of the long-term care facilities, correlating these variables with the number of infections, hospitalizations, and deaths from COVID-19. It checked absolute numbers and rates of incidence, hospitalization, mortality, and lethality. Results There have been 58 COVID-19 outbreaks in long-term care facilities. There were 399 cases among residents, 96 hospitalizations for COVID-19 and 48 deaths from COVID-19 (2.7 % of the cohort), with a case fatality rate of 12 %. After multivariate analysis, the intrinsic variables to residents associated with higher mortality risk were higher degree of frailty (OR=1.08; p = 0.004) and the fact of living in a long-term care facility with a considerable proportion of residents’ coverage by health plans (OR = 1.01; p = 0.028). Early geriatric follow-up showed an association with a reduction in the number of hospitalizations due to COVID-19. Conclusion The correct classification of the degree of frailty of institutionalized older people seems to have been relevant for predicting mortality from COVID-19. The extensive assistance by private health plans, contrary to what is supposed, did not result in better health protection. Early geriatric follow-up was beneficial and may be an attractive strategy in the face of health emergencies that affect long-term care facilities to reduce hospital admissions. RESUMO Este estudo teve como objetivo investigar a ocorrência de oocistos de Cryptosporidium e cistos de Giardia em águas brutas, filtradas e cloradas, coletadas de duas estações de tratamento de água potável (ETA A e ETA B). A ETA A utiliza filtração direta ou flotação-filtração dependendo da turbidez da água bruta. A ETA B possui duas linhas de tratamento independentes, uma de filtração direta e outra de tratamento convencional. Os oocistos de Cryptosporidium e cistos de Giardia foram concentrados por floculação, identificados por microscopia de imunofluorescência direta e confirmados por coloração com DAPI e microscopia de contraste de fase. Na água bruta, a ocorrência de cistos variou de 75% (ETA A) a 100% (ETA B) das amostras, e de oocistos de 66,6% (ETA A) a 83,3% (ETA B). ABSTRACT This study aimed to investigate the occurrence of Cryptosporidium oocysts and Giardia cysts in raw, filtered, and chlorinated waters collected from two drinking water treatment plants (WTP A and WTP B). WTP A uses either direct filtration or flotation-filtration depending on the turbidity of raw water. WTP B has two independent treatment lines, a direct filtration and a conventional treatment line. Cryptosporidium oocysts and Giardia cysts were concentrated by flocculation, identified by direct immunofluorescence microscopy and confirmed by DAPI staining and phase-contrast microscopy. In raw water, the occurrence of cysts was from 75 (WTP A) to 100% (WTP B) of the samples, and of oocysts from 66.6 (WTP A) to 83.3% (WTP B). Both protozoa were detected in water treated by direct filtration (cysts: < 0.27 to 20.0 cysts L-1; oocysts: < 0.48 to 22.5 oocysts L-1) and flotation-filtration (cysts: < 0.27 to 5.0 cysts L-1; oocysts: < 0.48 to 17.5 oocysts L-1). ABSTRACT This study aimed to evaluate the duplicity and synergism of slow drying and storage processes at low temperatures, using a refrigerated room under suitable conditions for coffee fruit just after harvest. A cold room was prepared to receive and store coffee fruit in bulk directly from the field, perform slow drying, and maintain water content at approximately 12% during three months of storage. The room operated at temperatures between 7 and 14 ºC and relative humidity between 37 and 41%. The coffee variety used was the Conilon Yellow 62. The initial water content reduction period from 54% (wb) to 12% (wb) was two months. For comparison, coffee harvested from the same batch was dried on a covered suspended bed. Results showed that the coffee dried and stored in the cold room received a sensory score of 86.41, while that dried on a suspended bed obtained a sensory score of 84.16. Abstract The article deals with the topic of algorithmic discrimination, in labor relations and the principled limits embodied in the General Personal Data Protection Law (LGPD). Companies delegate their decisions to automated systems, deciding who will be hired and fired, monitoring worker activity, and managing practically all business activity. Thus, the research problem is: does the LGPD offer principled limits to prevent and/or reduce the possibility of discrimination against workers through algorithms, especially artificial intelligence? To this end, the text is divided into three chapters. The first analyzes how technologies have influenced labor relations. In the second, the reasons why algorithms can generate discrimination against workers are investigated. In the third, the LGPD is examined, verifying instruments that could contribute to unraveling the research problem. The deductive approach method, the qualitative research approach and the bibliographic research technique are used. ABSTRACT Geothermal energy is a renewable source that can assist in the thermal conditioning of constructed environments. The objective of this study was to analyze the heat transfer in a Red Latosol (Oxisol), in heat storage process, using two linear heat exchangers. The treatments were arranged in a 3 × 2 × 3 factorial scheme, corresponding to three temperature differentials between soil and water (5, 10 and 15 °C), two types of materials (PVC and copper) and three radial distances (10, 20 and 25 cm), with three replicates. Soil temperature variations were obtained continuously for a period of 12 hours using DS18B20 sensors. These variations were logarithmic as a function of heat transfer time and radial distance and linear as a function of the temperature differential between soil and water (θ). O objetivo deste estudo foi analisar a transferência de calor em um Latossolo Vermelho (Oxisol), em processo de armazenamento de calor, utilizando dois trocadores de calor lineares. Os tratamentos foram dispostos em esquema fatorial 3 × 2 × 3, correspondendo a três diferenciais de temperatura entre solo e água (5, 10 e 15 °C), dois tipos de materiais (PVC e cobre) e três distâncias radiais (10, 20 e 25 cm), com três repetições. As variações de temperatura do solo foram obtidas continuamente por um período de 12 horas usando sensores DS18B20. De naturaleza cualitativa, se destaca no sólo el uso de investigación bibliográfica que sustenta la relevancia del segmento Pet friendly para los consumidores, sino también el cuestionario abierto enviado al gerente de marketing y reservas de la posada con el fin de recolectar información sobre los servicios e infraestructura del lugar. De carácter cuantitativo, con el fin de confirmar la hipótesis de que el objeto de estudio se destaca en comparación con sus competidores, se realizó una encuesta sobre las evaluaciones que los desarrollos en Miguel - la ciudad donde se encuentra el albergue - y Petropolitan - un municipio vecino - tienen en Google. Con base en los resultados, se observó que la posada investigada fue calificada por encima de la media, ofreciendo diferentes servicios hospitalarios para el segmento de mascotas como: piscinas y fiestas adaptadas, espacios de agilidad y duchas para mascotas. Además, hay que añadir que sólo una empresa además del objeto de estudio proporciona servicios exclusivos para mascotas, ofreciendo dos macetas y una cama. Como conclusión, se solidificó la hipótesis que coloca a la Posada Le Ange, en el contexto local y nacional, como un ejemplo asertivo en cuanto al verdadero significado de la hospitalidad Pet friendly. Abstract: In order to evaluate the hospitable proposal of the Le Ange Inn, it became opportune to structure, under a quali-quantitative methodology, different analyses. From a qualitative nature, we emphasize not only the use of bibliographic research that supports the relevance of the pet friendly segment for consumers, but also the open questionnaire sent to the marketing and reservations manager of the inn in order to collect information about the services and infrastructure of the place. From a quantitative point of view, in order to fulfill the hypothesis that the object of study stands out from its competitors, a survey was carried out of the evaluations that the businesses in Miguel - the city where the inn is located - and Petropolitan - a neighboring municipality - have on Google. From the results, it was observed that the inn under investigation has an evaluation above the average found, offering different hospitable services for the pet segment such as: adapted pools and parties, agility spaces, and pet shower. Furthermore, it is added that only one enterprise besides the object of study provides exclusive services for pet, offering two pots and a bed. As a conclusion, the assumption that places the Le Ange Inn, in a local and national context, as an assertive example as to the true meaning of pet friendly hospitality was solidified. Resumo: Com o intuito de avaliar a proposta hospitaleira da Pousada Le Ange, tornou-se oportuno estruturar, sob uma metodologia quali-quantitativa, diferentes análises. Da natureza qualitativa, acentua-se não só a utilização de pesquisas bibliográficas que sustentam a relevância do segmento pet friendly para os consumidores, como também o questionário aberto enviado para a gerente de marketing e reservas da pousada, a fim de coletar informações quanto aos serviços e infraestrutura do local. Da natureza quantitativa, sob o intuito de consumar a hipótese de que o objeto de estudo se destaca diante de sua concorrência, foi realizado um levantamento das avaliações que os empreendimentos miguelenses - cidade em que a pousada está situada - e petropolitanos - município vizinho - possuem no Google. Dos resultados, observou-se que a pousada investigada possui uma avaliação acima da média encontrada, ofertando diferentes serviços hospitaleiros para o segmento pet, como: piscinas e festas adaptadas, espaços agility e pet shower. Ainda, acrescenta-se que apenas um empreendimento além do objeto de estudo fornece serviços exclusivos para pet, dispondo dois potes e uma cama. Abstract This study aimed to compare the mechanical properties of various occlusal plate materials by analyzing surface roughness, Knoop microhardness, flexural strength, and modulus of elasticity. Fifty samples were prepared and classified as SC (self-curing acrylic resin), WB (heat-cured acrylic resin), ME (acrylic resin polymerized by microwave energy), P (resin print), and M (polymethylmethacrylate polymer block for computer-aided design/computer-aided manufacturing). The data were analyzed using a one-way analysis of variance and Tukey’s honestly significant difference test. Surface roughness was the same in all groups. The surface hardness of group M was statistically superior. The samples from groups P and M had higher flexural strength than other samples. The modulus of elasticity of group SC was statistically lower than that of other groups. The mechanical properties of the materials used to make the occlusal plates differed, and group M achieved the best results in all analyses. Abstract In this research report, we discuss the conception of a research design to carry out a survey on workers in the automotive industry in the south of Rio de Janeiro, considering on the conditions for accomplishing the investigation and on the need to revise both the data collection and the research tool under the impact of COVID-19, as well as we evaluate the sample design and the dissemination strategies related to the survey form. Resumo Este registro de pesquisa discute a construção do desenho para a realização de um survey sobre os trabalhadores da indústria automotiva do sul do Rio de Janeiro, refletindo sobre as condições de realização da investigação e a necessidade de redefinição da coleta de dados e do instrumento de pesquisa sob o impacto da covid-19, com reflexos na confecção da amostra e, principalmente, nas estratégias de divulgação da pesquisa e disseminação do questionário autoadministrado.
