Resumen La aplicación de herbicidas preemergentes es una estrategia de control de malezas, sin embargo, estos productos deben presentar residualidad para el control de diferentes flujos germinativos. Este estudio tuvo como objetivo evaluar la eficacia de herbicidas preemergentes en diferentes flujos de germinación de Merremia aegyptia, Mucuna aterrima y Ricinus communis, cuando se aplican sobre diferentes cantidades de paja y diferentes períodos secos simulados. El experimento se realizó en un diseño factorial 4 × 2 × 2 con cuatro repeticiones, el tratamiento incluye cuatro períodos secos (0, 30, 60 y 90), dos cantidades de paja (0 y 10 t ha-1) y dos flujos de germinación. Los herbicidas amicarbazona (1225 g ha-1); imazapic (147 g ha-1), sulfentrazona (800 g ha-1) y tebuthiuron (900 g ha-1), se aplicaron para el control de malezas antes de la emergencia, y los flujos de flujo de germinación se evaluaron a los 7, 14, 21, 28 y 35 días después de la emergencia de especies (DAE), mientras se verifica la masa seca. La amicarbazona presentó una reducción del control para todas las especies en los periodos secos más prolongados y presencia de paja. La amicarbazona mostró menos del 80% de control para todas las especies a los 90 días del período seco en presencia de paja. Imazapic no presentó residuo control para ninguna de las especies analizadas. Para sulfentrazona, la cantidad de paja no afectó el control de las malezas en diferentes flujos de germinación, mostrando el mismo patrón de control independientemente de la cantidad de paja, porcentajes de control superiores al 80% independientemente de la cantidad de paja. Los herbicidas asociados a cantidades de paja y periodos secos tienen impacto sobre las especies de malezas M.aegyptia, M.aterrima y R. communis.

Abstract Preemergent herbicides are a frequent weed control strategy. Considering different crop germinative fluxes, these products must present long-lasting weed control. This study evaluated preemergent herbicides in different germination fluxes of Merremia aegyptia, Mucuna aterrima and Ricinus communis when applied to different quantities of straw and different simulated dry periods. The experiment was conducted in a 4 × 2 × 2 factorial design with four replications. The treatments included four dry periods (0, 30, 60, and 90 days), two straw quantities (0 and 10 t ha-1), and two germination fluxes. The herbicides amicarbazone (1225 g ha-1), imazapic (147 g ha-1), sulfentrazone (800 g ha-1), and tebuthiuron (900 g ha-1) were applied for preemergence weed control, and germination flush fluxes were evaluated at 7, 14, 21, 28, and 35 days after emergence (DAE) while verifying plant dry mass. Amicarbazone controlled less than 80% of the studied species at the 90-day dry period in the presence of straw. Imazapic did not present control residue for any of the species analyzed. Sulfentrazone showed the same control pattern at all germination fluxes, regardless of the amount of straw. Tebuthiuron successfully controlled all species in the first germination flush, exceeding 80% regardless of the amount of straw. Herbicides associated with straw quantities and dry periods have a significant impact on M. aegyptiaca, M. aterrima and R. communis.

Resumen: Las discusiones sobre la política presupuestaria discrecional han destacado su potencial impacto negativo en el desarrollo económico. Este estudio examina cómo la política presupuestaria discrecional, como consecuencia de prácticas de rent-seeking, afecta los gastos en el área de la salud de los municipios de Mato Grosso, durante el escándalo de la “Mafia de las Ambulancias” (2001 a 2006). Nuestros hallazgos revelan un aumento significativo en la aplicación de políticas presupuestarias discrecionales durante este caso de corrupción, particularmente entre los municipios involucrados, indicando una mayor agresividad en la asignación de presupuesto en salud. Abstract: Discussions on discretionary fiscal policy often underscore its potential negative impacts on economic development. This study examines the consequences of such policies in the context of rent-seeking practices, particularly focusing on healthcare expenditures by municipalities in Mato Grosso during the “Ambulance Mafia” scandal (2001 to 2006). Our empirical analysis reveals a significant increase in discretionary fiscal measures during the corruption case, particularly among implicated municipalities, indicating heightened budget execution for healthcare expenses. Importantly, our findings underscore that excessive use of this policy not only harms the economy but also adversely affects social development indicators. In summary, excessive public spending beyond an optimal threshold correlates with detrimental effects on local population health. Resumo: As discussões em torno da política orçamentária discricionária têm evidenciado que seu uso agressivo pode acarretar impactos negativos no desenvolvimento econômico. Neste estudo, investigamos essa política como uma consequência de práticas rent-seeking, examinando empiricamente seu efeito sobre o orçamento público, maiormente na dimensão dos gastos na área da saúde realizados pelos municípios de Mato Grosso, durante o escândalo da “Máfia das Ambulâncias” (2001 a 2006). Nossos resultados apontam para um aumento significativo nas medidas de política orçamentária discricionária durante o caso de corrupção, principalmente entre os municípios envolvidos, sugerindo uma maior agressividade na execução do orçamento das despesas na função de saúde. Além disso, nossas descobertas destacam que o uso excessivo dessa política pode não apenas prejudicar o estado atual da economia, mas também ter impactos negativos nos indicadores de desenvolvimento social. Abstract This paper describes the fishing profile and the temporal variation in the commercial landings of elasmobranchs in a global hotspot for their conservation and investigates the variables that influenced the landings. Census data on commercial catches were obtained between April 2008 and October 2010 from nine landing sites in Bragança (Pará, northern Brazil). Five vessel types, four fishing gears, and eight fishing techniques engaged with elasmobranch capture were identified. A total of 2,357 landings were recorded, with a total production of 354 t. The highest yields were recorded in 2009, with sharks being harvested mostly by small and medium-sized vessels, and batoids, by small vessels and canoes. Drifting nets and longlines played a prominent role in elasmobranch fisheries. The results show that the landings were influenced by days at sea, which is common in tropical fisheries. Abstract Background: In this experimental protocol, we evaluated the immediate and delayed repair of the buccal branch of the facial nerve (BBFN) with heterologous fibrin biopolymer (HFB) as a coaptation medium and the use of photobiomodulation (PBM), performing functional and histomorphometric analysis of the BBFN and perioral muscles. Methods: Twenty-eight rats were divided into eight groups using the BBFN bilaterally (the left nerve was used for PBM), namely: G1 - control group, right BBFN (without injury); G2 - control group, left BBFN (without injury + PBM); G3 - Denervated right BBFN (neurotmesis); G4 - Denervated left BBFN (neurotmesis + PBM); G5 - Immediate repair of right BBFN (neurotmesis + HFB); G6 - Immediate repair of left BBFN (neurotmesis + HFB + PBM); G7 - Delayed repair of right BBFN (neurotmesis + HFB); G8 - Delayed repair of left BBFN (neurotmesis + HFB + PBM). Delayed repair occurred after two weeks of denervation. All animals were sacrificed after six weeks postoperatively. Abstract This study aimed to evaluate the bond strength between relined fiberglass posts with different composite resin opacities in different thirds of the intraradicular dentin. Thirty single-rooted premolars were endodontically treated and divided into three groups (n=10): fiberglass posts relined with translucent composite resin, fiberglass posts relined with opaque composite resin, and fiberglass posts without relining. After cementation of the posts, the specimens were cut perpendicular to the long axis of the tooth in slices of approximately 1.3 mm of each third to be analyzed (cervical, middle, and apical) and then subjected to the push-out test. The bond strength (MPa) data were subjected to Shapiro-Wilk normality tests and two-way repeated measures analysis of variance, considering the experimental groups and different regions as study factors. Tukey’s post-hoc test (p<.05) was applied for comparisons between the groups. In the cervical third, higher values of bond strength were found for the group relined with translucent resin, with a statistically significant difference for the other groups. In the other regions, both opaque and translucent resins showed similar results, but both showed higher values of bond strength compared to fiberglass posts without relining. The bond strength of fiberglass posts to different thirds of intraradicular dentin is influenced by composite resin relining as well as the opacity of the resin. Resumo Este estudo teve como objetivo avaliar a resistência de união entre pinos de fibra de vidro anatomizados com resinas compostas de diferentes opacidades em diferentes terços da dentina intrarradicular. Trinta pré-molares uniradiculares foram tratados endodonticamente e divididos em três grupos (n=10): pinos de fibra de vidro anatomizados com resina composta translúcida, pinos de fibra de vidro anatomizados com resina composta opaca e pinos de fibra de vidro sem anatomização. Após a cimentação dos pinos, os corpos de prova foram cortados perpendicularmente ao longo eixo do dente em fatias de aproximadamente 1,3 mm de cada terço a ser analisado (cervical, médio e apical) e posteriormente submetidos ao teste de push-out. Os dados de resistência de união (MPa) foram submetidos a testes de normalidade de Shapiro-Wilk e ANOVA dois fatores para análises repetidas, considerando os grupos experimentais e diferentes regiões como fatores de estudo. O teste post-hoc de Tukey (p=0,05) foi aplicado para comparações entre os grupos. No terço cervical foram encontrados maiores valores de resistência de união no grupo com anatomização com resina translúcida, com diferença estatisticamente significativa para os demais grupos. Abstract Objective To evaluate the protective effect of an experimental solution containing TiF4/NaF on the development of radiation-induced dentin caries lesions. Methodology bovine root samples were irradiated (70Gy) and distributed as following (n=12/group): Commercial Saliva (BioXtra), NaF (500 ppm F-), TiF4 (500 ppm F), TiF4/NaF (TiF4: 300 ppm F-, NaF: 190 ppm F-), and Phosphate buffer solution (PBS, negative control). Biofilm was produced using biofilm from irradiated patients and McBain saliva (0.2% of sucrose, at 37oC and 5% CO2) for five days. The treatments were applied 1x/day. Colony-forming units (CFU) were counted and demineralization was quantified by transversal microradiography. The ANOVA/Tukey test was applied for all parameters. Results All treatments reduced CFU for total microorganisms. TiF4 reduced Lactobacillus sp. (7.04±0.26 log10 CFU/mL) and mutans streptococci (7.18±0.28) CFU the most, when compared to PBS (7.58±0.21 and 7.75±0.17) and followed by NaF (7.12±0.31 and 7.34±0.22) and TiF4/NaF (7.16±0.35 and 7.29± 0.29). ABSTRACT Background: Hancornia speciosa is a species known for its medicinal and nutritional properties. Despite being a plant native to several regions of Brazil, some aspects of its production system are not yet well defined. Large-scale asexual propagation stands out, making it difficult to establish commercial orchards with materials with superior characteristics. In this context, this article aimed to investigate the scientific production related to the propagation and conservation of the mangabeira, using a mixed methodology of bibliometric analysis and literature review. The Scopus and Web of Science databases were consulted and the VOSviewer software was used to map the cooperation network between authors, institutions, and keywords. Results: The study included 72 articles and found a significant increase in scientific production on mangabeira propagation and conservation since 2009. Most studies focused on seed technology, seedling production, in vitro propagation and conservation, and cryopreservation. Additionally, it was observed that mangabeira seeds do not tolerate a reduction in moisture content, and the combination of materials for the composition of the substrate, such as coconut fiber, manure, and sand, can provide an adequate basis for developing seedlings. It was also observed that MS culture medium, complete or with half saline concentration, or WPM medium can be used for in vitro germination and initial seedling growth. Conclusion: Through this review, we concluded that the mangabeira presents substantial potential for the development of innovative propagation techniques, with a special focus on methods that facilitate the clonal propagation of the species, such as grafting, rooting cuttings, and micropropagation. RESUMO: O jenipapeiro (Genipa americana L.) é uma espécie nativa não endêmica do Brasil pertencente à família Rubiaceae. É considerada uma espécie que une os pilares socioeconômicos e ambientais. O objetivo deste trabalho foi estabelecer a indução da embriogênese somática indireta em genótipos de jenipapeiro. Foram utilizados explantes foliares dos acessos UMB, SAL, JSA, SC e CER cultivados em meio primário composto por ½ MS, 30 g/L de sacarose e 3g/L de Phytagel™ com as combinações dos reguladores de ANA x BAP M1: 4,0/4,0 mg/L de ANA e BAP, M2: 4,0/6,0 mg/L de ANA e BAP e M3: 6,0/4,0 mg/L de ANA e BAP. Aos 60 dias de cultura foram transferidas para meio secundário de multiplicação de calos embriogênicos suplementado com 2,21 mg/L de 2,4-D. Aos 30 e 60 dias foram avaliados o incremento (%) e a massa fresca (g) dos calos primários e aos 120 dias a presença de calos embriogênicos. ABSTRACT: The genipap (Genipa americana L.) is a non-endemic species native to Brazil belonging to the family Rubiaceae. It is a species that unites socioeconomic and environmental pillars. The study objective was to establish the induction of indirect somatic embryogenesis in foliar explants of genipap genotypes. Leaf explants of UMB, SAL, JSA, SC, and CER accessions cultivated in half the salt concentration of Murashige & Skoog (MS), 30 g/L sucrose, and 3g/L PhytagelTM with the following combinations of NAA × BA regulators were used: M1: 4.0/4.0 mg/L NAA and BA, M2: 4.0/6.0 mg/L NAA and BA, and M3: 6.0/4.0 mg/L NAA and BA. At 60 days of culture, they were transferred to secondary embryogenic callus multiplication medium supplemented with 2.21 mg/L of 2,4-D. At 30 and 60 days, the increment (%) and fresh mass (g) of primary callus and at 120 days the presence of embryogenic callus were evaluated. The primary medium with 4.0 mg/L of NAA and 6.0 mg/L of BA induced embryogenic primary callus in leaf explants of the genipap accessions SAL, SC, and JSA. Abstract The scope of this paper is to analyze the relationship between the country’s political redemocratization process from the 1980s onwards and the issue of identification, preservation and access to the archives of information and security bodies that worked to combat the opponents of the authoritarian regime during the military dictatorship (1964-1985). It addresses the dictatorship’s action on university and scientific institutions, to highlight the importance of the archive of the Oswaldo Cruz Foundation, as well as the personal files maintained by scientists and donated to Casa de Oswaldo Cruz. It features archives and collections organized and available for public consultation, which can serve as research sources for historical studies on science and health during the dictatorship.

Abstract: A French poem by Rilke, published in 1926 with the Vergers cycle of poems, is translated here in two similar but not identical versions. The poem and its double translation give rise to two questions: (1) why has the reception of Rilke’s French poems been more restricted or circumscribed than that of his German poems? (2) why two different translations of the same poem? Taken as a principle of reflection, the poem with its simultaneous double translation should open the way to understanding the two questions, their possible kinship and, more generally, the convergence between criticism and creation.
