Resumo O presente artigo busca examinar as parcas menções a Helvétius na obra nietzschiana, tendo como objetivo mais específico apresentar um sentido para a afirmação de Nietzsche de que o pensador francês estaria à frente do "último grande acontecimento da moral". A hipótese apresentada é de que Helvétius tenha importância tanto positiva - como proponente de um modelo mais realista de análise dos fenômenos morais - quanto negativa - como precursor do mais recente desdobramento da moralidade de rebanho.

Abstract This paper aims to examine the few mentions to Helvetius in Nietzsche's work, with the more specific purpose of making sense of Nietzsche's assertion that the French thinker would be at the head of "the last great event of morality". The hypothesis to be defended is that Helvetius has importance both positively - as a proponent of a more realistic model of analysis of moral phenomena - and negatively - as the precursor of the most recent unfolding of herd morality.
