ABSTRACT Introduction: In patients undergoing coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG), stroke is a major complication that increases morbidity and mortality. The presence of carotid stenosis (CS) increases risk of stroke, and the optimal treatment remains uncertain due to the lack of randomized clinical trials. The aim of this study is to compare three management approaches to CS in patients submitted to CABG. Methods: From 2005 to 2015, 79 consecutive patients with significant CS submitted to CABG were retrospectively evaluated. Patients were divided in three groups, according to CS treatment: 17 underwent staged carotid endarterectomy (CEA)-CABG, 26 underwent synchronous CEA-CABG, and 36 underwent isolated CABG without carotid intervention. The primary outcomes were composed by 30-day postoperative acute myocardial infarction (MI), 30-day postoperative stroke, and death due to all causes during the follow-up. Results: Patients were evaluated during an average 2.05 years (95% confidence interval = 1.51-2.60) of follow-up. Major adverse cardiac events, including death, postoperative MI, and postoperative stroke, occurred in 76.5% of the staged group, 34.6% of the synchronous group, and 33.3% of the isolated CABG group (P=0.007). As for MI, the rates were 29.4%, 3.85%, and 11.1% (P=0.045), respectively. There was no statistically significant difference in total mortality rates (35.3%, 30.8%, and 25.0%, respectively; P=0,72) and stroke (29.4%, 7.7%, and 8.3%, respectively; P=0,064) between groups. Conclusion: Staged CEA-CABG is associated with higher major adverse cardiac events and MI rate when compared to the strategy of synchronous and isolated CABG, but without statistically difference in total mortality during the entire follow-up.

O presente trabalho visou o presente estudo visou avaliar o estado nutricional e o consumo alimentar dos praticantes de exercício físico exclusivamente nos finais de semana. Na coleta de dados foi aplicado um questionário padronizado de frequência alimentar e outro com questões de múltipla escolha pertinentes ao assunto, no intuito de conhecer melhor os hábitos dos praticantes e uso de suplementos alimentares. Observou-se, através do consumo alimentar que existe uma boa distribuição dos grupos alimentares, conforme os dados fornecidos pela frequência alimentar e que a maioria dos praticantes estão no grupo de sobrepeso, de acordo com o IMC. Porém, com a pesquisa ficou evidente que o meio para buscar resultados é uma opção o uso de suplementos alimentares (70% da amostra) e que o objetivo da pratica de exercícios é ter um habito de vida mais saudável. Diante de todos os fatos evidenciados, é indispensável à conscientização da população praticante de exercícios físicos sobre o uso indiscriminado e/ou desnecessário de suplementos nutricionais e que uma alimentação balanceada promove todos os nutrientes e energia suficientes para a obtenção de uma boa forma física.

The present study aimed to evaluate the nutritional status and dietary intake of physical exercise practitioners exclusively at weekends. In the data collection, a standardized food frequency questionnaire and another one with multiple choice questions pertinent to the subject were applied in order to better understand the habits of the practitioners and the use of dietary supplements. It has been observed through food consumption that there is a good distribution of food groups according to the data provided by the food frequency and that most of the practitioners are in the overweight group according to the BMI. However, with the research it became clear that the means to seek results is an option the use of dietary supplements (70% of the sample) and that the goal of exercise is to have a healthier life habit. In the face of all the facts, it is indispensable to raise the awareness of the population of physical exercises on the indiscriminate and / or unnecessary use of nutritional supplements and that a balanced diet promotes all nutrients and energy sufficient to obtain a good physical form.

O objetivo deste estudo foi avaliar a correlação da segurança alimentar com o estado nutricional de crianças em duas escolas de Fortaleza - CE. O estudo foi do tipo transversal realizado em abril de 2017. A amostra foi composta por escolares do 1º ao 5º ano de uma escola particular e uma pública de Fortaleza/CE, com idades entre 6 a 10 anos. Foi realizada avaliação antropométrica e utilizados questionários baseados na Escala Brasileira de Segurança Alimentar (EBIA) e do Consumo Alimentar. A prevalência de segurança alimentar foi de 92% na escola particular e 49% na escola pública. A avaliação do consumo alimentar resultou em uma maior ingestão de feijão, bebidas adoçadas e macarrão instantâneo pelos alunos da escola pública. Além disso, verificou-se que o consumo de frutas e biscoitos recheados foi maior na escola particular. Conclui-se que a prevalência de segurança alimentar assim como o acesso a alimentos é bastante influenciada pelas condições socioeconômicas. Esses fatores devem ser considerados na elaboração de ações promotoras de saúde, visando uma alimentação mais saudável e acessível a todos.

Food security represents a guarantee of access to quality food on a regular and permanent basis and does not compromise access to other essential needs. The objective of this study was to evaluate the correction of food safety with the nutritional status of children in two schools in Fortaleza-CE. The study was prepared in April 2017. The sample was composed of students from the 1st to 5th year of a private school and a public school in Fortaleza / CE, aged between 6 and 10 years. An anthropometric evaluation and questionnaires were used based on the Brazilian Food Safety Scale (EBIA) and Food Consumption. The prevalence of food security was 92% in the private school and 49% in the public school. An assessment of food consumption resulted in increased intake of beans, sweetened beverages and instant noodles by public school students. In addition, it was found that the consumption of fruit and filled biscuits was higher in the private school. It is concluded that the prevalence of food security as access to food is strongly influenced by socioeconomic conditions. The conditions of the process should be considered in the elaboration of actions promoting health, aiming at a healthier diet and accessible to all.

A cronobiologia é a ciência que estuda a interação entre o homem e os ritmos biológicos. Uma de suas metas principias é estudar as características temporais da matéria viva, em todos os seus níveis de organização, o que inclui o estudo dos ritmos circadianos, que variam em torno de 24 horas e podem ser eventos bioquímicos, fisiológicos ou comportamentais importantes para sobrevivência. A amostra pesquisada foi composta por 500 universitários devidamente matriculados nos turnos manhã, tarde e noite de uma instituição privada de ensino superior. Os dados corresponderam a medidas antropométricas como peso, altura e as circunferências do braço, cintura e quadril para avaliação do estado nutricional e risco de doença cardiovascular e aplicação de um questionário que avaliava os hábitos de sono dos participantes. A distribuição de IMC na população estudada teve uma predominância de Eutróficos, seguido de Sobrepeso e Magreza. O cronotipo de maior prevalência foi o Intermediário, seguido do cronotipo Vespertino. Com relação ao risco cardiovascular, foi verificado que os universitários apresentaram uma distribuição de 71,2% sem risco de doença cardiovascular, 17,4% com risco alto de doença cardiovascular e 11,4% com risco muito alto de doença cardiovascular. Apesar dos hormônios do ritmo circadiano influenciarem no estado nutricional, o presente estudo não encontrou uma correlação positiva entre essas duas variáveis. Novos estudos devem ser feitos para correlacionar cronotipo e estado nutricional, visando a melhoria do conhecimento sobre saúde.

Chronobiology is the science that studies the interaction between man and biological rhythms. One of his main goals is to study the temporal characteristics of living matter in all its levels of organization, which includes the study of circadian rhythms, which vary around 24 hours and can be important biochemical, physiological or behavioral events for survival. The sample was composed of 500 university students duly enrolled in the morning; afternoon and evening shifts of a private institution of higher education. The data corresponded to anthropometric measures such as weight, height, circumference of the arm, hip and waist to evaluate nutritional status and risk of cardiovascular disease and the application of a questionnaire that assessed participants' sleep habits. The distribution of BMI in the studied population had a predominance of Eutrophic, followed by Overweight and Slimness. The most prevalent chronotype was the Intermediate, followed by the afternoon chronotype. Regarding cardiovascular risk, it was verified that university students presented a distribution of 71.2% without risk of cardiovascular disease, 17.4% with a high risk of cardiovascular disease and 11.4% with a very high risk of cardiovascular disease. Although circadian rhythm hormones influence nutritional status, the present study did not find a positive correlation between these two variables. New studies should be done to correlate chronotype and nutritional status, aiming at improving health knowledge.

O objetivo deste trabalho foi avaliar a qualidade microbiológica de farinha e fécula durante as diferentes etapas do processamento de mandioca, em unidades tradicionais e em uma unidade modelo. Foram determinados índices de coliformes totais e termotolerantes, Bacillus cereus, Salmonela spp., bactérias e fungos nas farinhas e féculas. Não foram observadas presenças de B. cereus e Salmonella spp. na farinha e fécula de mandioca produzidas nas unidades estudadas. A incidência microbiana diminui com o avanço da etapa do processamento para obtenção de farinha e foi menor na unidade modelo. Após o processo de torra, a carga microbiana estava de acordo com os valores preconizados pela legislação brasileira, concluindo-se que essa etapa pode ser considerada como crítica na obtenção de farinha. Na obtenção de fécula, a carga microbiana nas unidades tradicionais são maiores que na modelo, e o aumento do número de extrações promove o aumento da incidência de microrganismos, sendo recomendadas apenas quatro extrações.

The objective of this research was to evaluate microbiological contamination in the flour and starch during cassava processing in traditional and model units. The total and fecal coliforms indexes, Bacillus cereus, Salmonella, bacteria, yeast and fungi were determined. Bacillus cereus and Salmonella were not detected in any sample. The incidence of microorganisms decreased along the processing to obtain cassava flour, and is lower in model unit. After the roasting process, the microbial load was below the values established by the Brazilian legislation, and can be regarded as a critical step in obtaining cassava flour. Concerning starch production, the microbial load in the traditional units was higher than in the model units, and the increase of the extraction steps has promoted the growth of microorganisms. It's recommended the used of only 4 extractions.
